Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the inter-fraction reproducibility and intra-fraction stability of breast radiotherapy using voluntary deep-inspiration breath hold (DIBH) and free breathing (FB) based on an optical surface imaging system (OSIS). Methods: Seventeen patients (510 breath-hold sessions) treated using a field-in-field (FiF) technique and twenty patients (600 breath-free sessions) treated with a volume-modulated arc therapy (VMAT) technique were included in this retrospective study. All the patients were positioned with the guidance of CBCT and OSIS, and also monitored with OSIS throughout the whole treatment session. Eight setup variations in three directions were extracted from the treatment reports of OSIS for all sessions and were subsequently manually introduced to treatment plans, resulting in a total of 296 perturbed plans. All perturbed plans were recalculated, and the dose volume histograms (DVH) for the target and organs at risk (OAR) were analyzed. Results: The OSIS and CBCT for both DIBH and FB treatments showed a good agreement of less than 0.30 cm in each direction. The intra-fraction respiratory motion data during DIBH were −0.06 ± 0.07 cm, 0.12 ± 0.15 cm, and 0.12 ± 0.12 cm in the lateral, longitudinal, and vertical directions, respectively; for FB, the respiratory motion data were −0.02 ± 0.12 cm, 0.08 ± 0.18 cm, and 0.14 ± 0.20 cm, respectively. For the target, DIBH plans were more sensitive to setup errors; the mean deviations in D95 for CTV were 39.78 Gy–40.17 Gy for DIBH and 38.46 Gy–40.52 Gy for FB, respectively. For the OARs, the mean deviations of V10, V20, and Dmean to the heart; V5, V20, and Dmean to the ipsilateral lung; and Dmean to the breast were lower for the FB plan compared with the DIBH plan. Conclusion: Based on OSIS, our results indicate that both DIBH and FB can provide good reproducibility in the inter-fractions and stability in the intra-fractions. When the patient respiratory motion is large, the FB technology has greater possibility for the undercoverage of the target volume, while DIBH technology is more likely to result in increases in dose to OARs (the lung, heart, and contralateral breast). Digitalizing all aspects of dental care is a contemporary approach to ensuring the best possible clinical outcomes. Ongoing advancements in 3D face acquisition have been driven by continuous research on craniofacial structures and treatment effects. An array of 3D surface-imaging systems are currently available for generating photorealistic 3D facial images. However, choosing a purpose-specific system is challenging for clinicians due to variations in accuracy, reliability, resolution, and portability. Therefore, this review aims to provide clinicians and researchers with an overview of currently used or potential 3D surface imaging technologies and systems for 3D face acquisition in craniofacial research and daily practice. Through a comprehensive literature search, 71 articles meeting the inclusion criteria were included in the qualitative analysis, investigating the hardware, software, and operational aspects of these systems. The review offers updated information on 3D surface imaging technologies and systems to guide clinicians in selecting an optimal 3D face acquisition system. While some of these systems have already been implemented in clinical settings, others hold promise. Furthermore, driven by technological advances, novel devices will become cost-effective and portable, and will also enable accurate quantitative assessments, rapid treatment simulations, and improved outcomes. SUMMARY: We present a novel strategy for performing joint inversion with guided fuzzy c-means (GFCM) clustering coupling and apply it to electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) and ambient noise surface wave (ANSW) data. To accurately extract a priori clustering information, we use density peak clustering (DPC) rather than fuzzy c-means (FCM). The number and centres of resistivity and shear-wave velocity a priori clusters are extracted by DPC and then used to guide the joint inversion with the GFCM clustering coupling of ERT and ANSW data. Synthetic and field data are used to evaluate the flow and algorithm of DPC-GFCM clustering joint inversion. The results of synthetic examples show that the models recovered by the DPC-GFCM clustering joint inversion are nearly the same as the true models and are more accurate than those inverted using individual inversion and FCM-GFCM clustering joint inversion. In the field case, the depths of the stratigraphic interfaces shown in the resistivity and shear-wave velocity models inverted by DPC-GFCM clustering joint inversion are nearly consistent with those from the drilling data. In contrast, the strata recovered by the individual inversion and FCM-GFCM clustering joint inversion significantly differ from the drilling results. Both the synthetic and field examples verify the effectiveness of the DPC-GFCM clustering coupling method used for the joint inversion of ERT and ANSW data acquired from the near surface with strong heterogeneity. Purpose: With the clinical implementation of kV‐CBCT‐based daily online‐adaptive radiotherapy, the ability to monitor, quantify, and correct patient movement during adaptive sessions is paramount. With sessions lasting between 20–45 min, the ability to detect and correct for small movements without restarting the entire session is critical to the adaptive workflow and dosimetric outcome. The purpose of this study was to quantify and evaluate the correlation of observed patient movement with machine logs and a surface imaging (SI) system during adaptive radiation therapy. Methods: Treatment machine logs and SGRT registration data log files for 1972 individual sessions were exported and analyzed. For each session, the calculated shifts from a pre‐delivery position verification CBCT were extracted from the machine logs and compared to the SGRT registration data log files captured during motion monitoring. The SGRT calculated shifts were compared to the reported shifts of the machine logs for comparison for all patients and eight disease site categories. Results: The average (±STD) net displacement of the SGRT shifts were 2.6 ± 3.4 mm, 2.6 ± 3.5 mm, and 3.0 ± 3.2 in the lateral, longitudinal, and vertical directions, respectively. For the treatment machine logs, the average net displacements in the lateral, longitudinal, and vertical directions were 2.7 ± 3.7 mm, 2.6 ± 3.7 mm, and 3.2 ± 3.6 mm. The average difference (Machine–SGRT) was −0.1 ± 1.8 mm, 0.2 ± 2.1 mm, and −0.5 ± 2.5 mm for the lateral, longitudinal, and vertical directions. On average, a movement of 5.8 ± 5.6 mm and 5.3 ± 4.9 mm was calculated prior to delivery for the CBCT and SGRT systems, respectively. The Pearson correlation coefficient between CBCT and SGRT shifts was r = 0.88. The mean and median difference between the treatment machine logs and SGRT log files was less than 1 mm for all sites. Featured Application: This review provides an overview of commercially available 3D surface imaging systems that provide body composition estimates for practitioners and researchers, encouragement for system manufacturers to increase the public availability of user and system details, and a call for standardisation within this field. Recent literature has suggested 3D surface imaging to be a potential method of estimating body composition. The aim of this study was to provide an overview of commercially available 3D surface imaging systems that provide body composition estimates. User and system details of complete commercially available whole body 3D surface imaging systems, which estimate body composition, were collated from May to June 2022. Six 3D body surface imaging systems were identified, each of which provided varying amounts of user and system details. As this information is necessary to ensure the correct selection of system, appropriate use, and interpretation of outputs, manufacturers should seek to publicly present more detailed user and system details, international standards groups and training associations should seek to encourage standardisation, and practitioners and researchers should request additional details where necessary and validate their system prior to use, and end users should cautiously interpret outputs without the availability of comprehensive user and system details. Purpose: To commission and assess the clinical performance of a new commercial surface imaging (SI) system by analyzing intra‐fraction motion from the initial cohort of patients treated with frameless stereotactic radiosurgery (fSRS). Methods: The IDENTIFYTM SI system was commissioned for clinical use on an Edge (Varian Medical Systems, Palo Alto, CA) linear accelerator. All patients who received intracranial radiotherapy with HyperArcTM (Varian Medical Systems, Palo Alto, CA) were immobilized with the EncompassTM (Qfix, Avondale, PA) thermoplastic mask and monitored for intra‐fraction motion with SI. IDENTIFYTM log files were correlated with trajectory log files to correlate treatment parameters with SI‐reported offsets. IDENTIFYTM reported offsets were correlated with gantry and couch angles to assess system performance for obstructed and clear camera field of view. Data were stratified by race to evaluate performance differences due to skin tone. Results: All commissioning data were found to meet recommended tolerances. IDENTIFYTM was used to monitor intra‐fraction motion on 1164 fractions from 386 patients. The median magnitude of translational SI reported offsets at the end of treatment was 0.27 mm. SI reported offsets were shown to increase when camera pods are blocked by the gantry with larger increases seen at non‐zero couch angles. With camera obstruction, the median magnitude of the SI reported offset was 0.50 and 0.80 mm for White and Black patients, respectively. Conclusions: IDENTIFYTM performance during fSRS is comparable to other commercially available SI systems where offsets are shown to increase at non‐zero couch angles and during camera pod blockage. This paper introduces a simple three-dimensional (3D) stereoscopic method using a single unit of an imaging device consisting of a charge-coupled device (CCD) and a zoom lens. Unlike conventional stereoscopy, which requires a pair of imaging devices, 3D surface imaging is achieved by 3D image reconstruction of two images obtained from two different camera positions by scanning. The experiments were performed by obtaining two images of the measurement target in two different ways: (1) by moving the object while the imaging device is stationary, and (2) by moving the imaging device while the object is stationary. Conventional stereoscopy is limited by disparity errors in 3D image reconstruction because a pair of imaging devices is not ideally identical and alignment errors are always present in the imaging system setup. The proposed method significantly reduced the disparity error in 3D image reconstruction, and the calibration process of the imaging system became simple and convenient. The eye possesses a paravascular solute transport pathway that is driven by physiological pulsations, resembling the brain glymphatic pathway. We developed synchronous multimodal imaging tools aimed at measuring the driving pulsations of the human eye, using an eye-tracking functional eye camera (FEC) compatible with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for measuring eye surface pulsations. Special optics enabled integration of the FEC with MRI-compatible video ophthalmoscopy (MRcVO) for simultaneous retinal imaging along with functional eye MRI imaging (fMREye) of the BOLD (blood oxygen level dependent) contrast. Upon optimizing the fMREye parameters, we measured the power of the physiological (vasomotor, respiratory, and cardiac) eye and brain pulsations by fast Fourier transform (FFT) power analysis. The human eye pulsated in all three physiological pulse bands, most prominently in the respiratory band. The FFT power means of physiological pulsation for two adjacent slices was significantly higher than in one-slice scans (RESP1 vs. RESP2; df = 5, p = 0.045). FEC and MRcVO confirmed the respiratory pulsations at the eye surface and retina. We conclude that in addition to the known cardiovascular pulsation, the human eye also has respiratory and vasomotor pulsation mechanisms, which are now amenable to study using non-invasive multimodal imaging of eye fluidics. Purpose: Beam gating with deep inspiration breath hold (DIBH) usually depends on some external surrogate to infer internal target movement, and the exact internal movement is unknown. In this study, we tracked internal targets and characterized residual motion during DIBH treatment, guided by a surface imaging system, for gastrointestinal cancer. We also report statistics on treatment time. Methods and materials: We included 14 gastrointestinal cancer patients treated with surface imaging‐guided DIBH volumetrically modulated arc therapy, each with at least one radiopaque marker implanted near or within the target. They were treated in 25, 15, or 10 fractions. Thirteen patients received treatment for pancreatic cancer, and one underwent separate treatments for two liver metastases. The surface imaging system monitored a three‐dimensional surface with ± 3 mm translation and ± 3° rotation threshold. During delivery, a kilovolt image was automatically taken every 20° or 40° gantry rotation, and the internal marker was identified from the image. The displacement and residual motion of the markers were calculated. To analyze the treatment efficiency, the treatment time of each fraction was obtained from the imaging and treatment timestamps in the record and verify system. Results: Although the external surface was monitored and limited to ± 3 mm and ± 3°, significant residual internal target movement was observed in some patients. The range of residual motion was 3–21 mm. The average displacement for this cohort was 0–3 mm. In 19% of the analyzed images, the magnitude of the instantaneous displacement was > 5 mm. The mean treatment time was 17 min with a standard deviation of 4 min. Conclusions: Precaution is needed when applying surface image guidance for gastrointestinal cancer treatment. Using it as a solo DIBH technique is discouraged when the correlation between internal anatomy and patient surface is limited. Real‐time radiographic verification is critical for safe treatments. Purpose: To validate surface imaging (SI)‐reported offsets using a six degree‐of‐freedom couch and an anthropomorphic phantom for commissioning and routine quality assurance of an SI system used for stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS). Methods: An anthropomorphic phantom with a radiopaque ball bearing (BB) placed either anterior, midline, or posterior, was tracked with SI with a typical SRS region of interest. Couch motion in all six degrees of freedom was programmed and delivered on a linac. SI system logs were synchronized with linac trajectory logs. Ten random couch positions were selected at couch 0°, 45°, 90°, 270°, 315° with megavolt (MV) images taken to account for couch walkout. The SI residual error (ε), the difference between SI reported offset and MV or trajectory log position, was calculated. Residual errors were measured with and without one SI pod blocked. Results: The median [range] of magnitude of translational ε was 0.13 [0.07, 0.21], 0.16 [0.11, 0.26], 0.61 [0.50, 0.68], 0.49 [0.42, 0.55], 0.55 [0.38, 0.72] mm for couch rotations of 0°, 45°, 90°, 270°, 315°, respectively, for the midline BB and no pod blocked. The range of all translational ε from all couch angles (with and without pod block) at different BB positions is [0.05, 0.96] mm. The absolute range of difference when changing BB position when no pod is blocked in median translational ε is [0.01, 0.40] mm with the maximum at BB posterior. The absolute range of difference when not changing BB positions with and without pod block in median translational ε is [0.01, 0.37] mm with the maximum at BB posterior and couch 315°. It has been clearly confirmed that radiation therapy (RT) after breast conserving surgery (BCS) is an effective treatment modality comparable to mastectomy for early breast cancer. The purpose of this study was to further evaluate the accuracy of 3D surface imaging system (Sentinel) for breast cancer patients received BCS. The optical surface scans and CBCT scans were acquired before and immediately after couch movement correction. The deviation of the CBCT scans from the reference planning CT was considered an estimate for the residual errors for patient setup correction. The planning target volume (PTV) margins for treatment sessions was calculated according to the setup errors. We obtained a total of 245 sets of data collected from 49 breast cancer patients. Compared with Sentinel setup errors, the residual setup errors as determined by the CBCT scans after couch movement correction were reduced in the six directions. The PTV margins derived from the CBCT residual errors were all less than 5 mm in X, Y, and Z directions. Purpose: We evaluate an SGRT device (Voxelan HEV‐600 M/RMS) installed with Radixact, with the view angle of the Voxelan's camera at 74 degrees. The accuracy of Voxelan with this steep angle was evaluated with phantom experiments and inter‐fractional setup errors of patients. Methods: In the phantom experiments, the difference between the measured values of Voxelan from the truth was evaluated for translations and rotations. The inter‐fractional setup error between the setup using skin markers with laser localizer (laser setup: LS) and the setup using Voxelan (surface setup: SS) was compared for head and neck (N = 19), chest (N = 7) and pelvis (N = 9) cases. The inter‐fractional setup error was calculated by subtracting from bone matching by megavoltage computed tomography (MVCT) as ground truth. Results: From the phantom experiments, the average difference between the measured values of Voxelan from the truth was within 1 mm and 1 degree. In all cases, inter‐fractional setup error based on MVCT was not significantly different between LS and SS by Welch's t‐test (P > 0.05). The vector offset of the LS for head and neck, chest, and pelvis were 6.5, 9.6, and 9.6 mm, respectively, and that of the SS were 5.8, 8.6, and 12.6 mm, respectively. Slight improvement was observed for the head and neck, and chest cases, however, pelvis cases were not improved because the umbilical region could not be clearly visualized as a reference. Background: The use of free gracilis muscle flaps in reconstructive surgery of the lower leg is common practice to cover defects. However, there is still a lack of understanding of the morphometric changes that occur in the transferred muscle and area of interest over time, particularly the characteristic volume decrease that is observed over the course of the first year. This study aimed to assess volume changes in patients with free gracilis muscle flap reconstruction following infection, trauma, or malignancies of the lower extremity. Methods: Three-dimensional surface imaging was performed intraoperatively after 2 weeks, 6 months, and 12 months with the Vectra H2 system. A total of 31 patients were included in this study and analyzed. Results: There was an average volume increase of 146.67 ± 29.66% 2 weeks after reconstruction. Compared to this volume increase, there was a reduction of 108.44 ± 13.62% after 12 months (p < 0.05). Overall, we found a shrinkage to 85.53 ± 20.14% of the intraoperative baseline volume after 12 months. Conclusions: The use of non-invasive 3D surface imaging is a valuable tool for volume monitoring after free flap reconstruction of the lower extremity. The free gracilis muscle flap undergoes different phases of volume change over the first year, with the greatest influence on overall change being the development and decongestion of edema. Purpose: High‐quality CBCT and AI‐enhanced adaptive planning techniques allow CBCT‐guided stereotactic adaptive radiotherapy (CT‐STAR) to account for inter‐fractional anatomic changes. Studies of intra‐fractional respiratory motion management with a surface imaging solution for CT‐STAR have not been fully conducted. We investigated intra‐fractional motion management in breath‐hold Ethos‐based CT‐STAR and CT‐SBRT (stereotactic body non‐adaptive radiotherapy) using optical surface imaging combined with onboard CBCTs. Methods: Ten cancer patients with mobile lower lung or upper abdominal malignancies participated in an IRB‐approved clinical trial (Phase I) of optical surface image‐guided Ethos CT‐STAR/SBRT. In the clinical trial, a pre‐configured gating window (± 2 mm in AP direction) on optical surface imaging was used for manually triggering intra‐fractional CBCT acquisition and treatment beam irradiation during breath‐hold (seven patients for the end of exhalation and three patients for the end of inhalation). Two inter‐fractional CBCTs at the ends of exhalation and inhalation in each fraction were acquired to verify the primary direction and range of the tumor/imaging‐surrogate (donut‐shaped fiducial) motion. Intra‐fractional CBCTs were used to quantify the residual motion of the tumor/imaging‐surrogate within the pre‐configured breath‐hold window in the AP direction. Fifty fractions of Ethos RT were delivered under surface image‐guidance: Thirty‐two fractions with CT‐STAR (adaptive RT) and 18 fractions with CT‐SBRT (non‐adaptive RT). The residual motion of the tumor was quantified by determining variations in the tumor centroid position. The dosimetric impact on target coverage was calculated based on the residual motion. Results: We used 46 fractions for the analysis of intra‐fractional residual motion and 43 fractions for the inter‐fractional motion analysis due to study constraints. Using the image registration method, 43 pairs of inter‐fractional CBCTs and 100 intra‐fractional CBCTs attached to dose maps were analyzed. In the motion range study (image registration) from the inter‐fractional CBCTs, the primary motion (mean ± std) was 16.6 ± 9.2 mm in the SI direction (magnitude: 26.4 ± 11.3 mm) for the tumors and 15.5 ± 7.3 mm in the AP direction (magnitude: 20.4 ± 7.0 mm) for the imaging‐surrogate, respectively. The residual motion of the tumor (image registration) from intra‐fractional breath‐hold CBCTs was 2.2 ± 2.0 mm for SI, 1.4 ± 1.4 mm for RL, and 1.3 ± 1.3 mm for AP directions (magnitude: 3.5 ± 2.1 mm). The ratio of the actual dose coverage to 99%, 90%, and 50% of the target volume decreased by 0.95 ± 0.11, 0.96 ± 0.10, 0.99 ± 0.05, respectively. The mean percentage of the target volume covered by the prescribed dose decreased by 2.8 ± 4.4%. Conclusion: We demonstrated the intra‐fractional motion‐managed treatment strategy in breath‐hold Ethos CT‐STAR/SBRT using optical surface imaging and CBCT. While the controlled residual tumor motion measured at 3.5 mm exceeded the predetermined setup value of 2 mm, it is important to note that this motion still fell within the clinically acceptable range defined by the PTV margin of 5 mm. Background: A proton therapy system with 190° gantries uses robotic couch rotations to change the treatment beam laterality. Couch rotations are typically validated clinically with post‐rotation radiographic imaging. Aims: This study assesses the specificity and sensitivity of a commercial 3D surface imaging system, AlignRT (Vision RT, London UK) for validating couch rotations. Materials & Methods: In clinical operation, a reference surface image of the patient is acquired after radiographic setup with couch at 270°, perpendicular to the gantry axis of rotation. The couch is then rotated ±90° to a typical treatment angle, and AlignRT reports a 3D displacement vector. Patient motion, changes in patient surface, non‐coincidence between AlignRT and couch isocenter, and mechanical couch run‐out all contribute to the 3D vector magnitude. To assess AlignRT sensitivity in detecting couch run‐out, volunteers were positioned orthogonal to the proton gantry and reference surface images were captured without x‐ray localization. Subjects were repeatedly rotated ±90⁰ to typical treatment angles and displacement vectors were recorded. Additionally, measurements were performed in which intentional translations of 2, 4, 6, and 8 mm were combined with the intended isocentric rotations. Data sets were collected using a phantom; subjects with a thoracic isocenter and no immobilization; and subjects with a cranial isocenter and thermoplastic immobilization. A total of 300 rotations were measured. Results: During isocentric rotations, the mean AlignRT displacement vectors for the phantom, immobilized, and non‐immobilized volunteers were 0.1 ± 0.1 mm, 0.8 ± 0.1 mm, and 1.1 ± 0.2 mm respectively. 95% of the AlignRT measurements for the immobilized and non‐immobilized subjects were within 1 mm and 2 mm of the actual displacement respectively. Discussion: After characterizing the accuracy using phantoms and volunteers, we have shown that a three‐pod surface imaging system can be used to identify gross non‐isocentric patient rotations. Significant positional deviations, either due to improper couch rotation or patient motion, should be followed by radiographic imaging and repositioning. Conculsion: AlignRT can be used to verify patient positioning following couch rotations that are applied after the initial x‐ray guided patient setup. Surface imaging (SI) has been rapidly integrated into radiotherapy clinics across the country without specific guidelines and recommendations on its commissioning and use aside from vendor‐provided information. A survey was created under the auspices of AAPM TG‐302 to assess the current status of SI to identify if there is need for formal guidance. The survey was designed to determine the institutional setting of responders, availability and length of its use, commissioning procedures, and clinical applications. This survey was created in REDCap, and approved as IRB exempt to collect anonymized data. Questions were reviewed by multiple physicists to ensure concept validity and piloted by a small group of independent physicists to ensure process validity. All full members of AAPM self‐identified as "therapy" or "other" were sent the survey link by email. The survey was active from February to March 2018. Of 3677 members successfully contacted, 439 completed responses; the summary of these responses provides insight on current surface imaging clinical practices, though they should not be assumed to be representative of radiation oncology as a whole. Results showed that 53.3% of respondents have SI in their clinics, mostly in treatment rooms, rarely in simulation rooms. Half of those without SI plan on purchasing it within 3 years. Over 10% have SI but do not use it clinically, 36.8% classify themselves as "expert" users, and 85.5% agreed/strongly agreed that SI guidelines are needed. Initial positioning with SI is most common for breast/chestwall and SRS/SBRT treatments, least common for pediatrics. Use of SI for intra‐fraction monitoring follows a similar distribution. Gating with SI is most prevalent for breast/chestwall (66.0%) but also used in SBRT (33.0%), and non‐SBRT lung/abdomen (<30%) treatments. Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate and compare different system calibration methods from a large cohort of systems to establish a commissioning procedure for surface‐guided frameless cranial stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) with intrafractional motion monitoring and gating. Using optical surface imaging (OSI) to guide non‐coplanar SRS treatments, the determination of OSI couch‐angle dependency, baseline drift, and gated‐delivered‐dose equivalency are essential. Methods: Eleven trained physicists evaluated 17 OSI systems at nine clinical centers within our institution. Three calibration methods were examined, including 1‐level (2D), 2‐level plate (3D) calibration for both surface image reconstruction and isocenter determination, and cube phantom calibration to assess OSI‐megavoltage (MV) isocenter concordance. After each calibration, a couch‐angle dependency error was measured as the maximum registration error within the couch rotation range. A head phantom was immobilized on the treatment couch and the isocenter was set in the middle of the brain, marked with the room lasers. An on‐site reference image was acquired at couch zero, the facial region of interest (ROI) was defined, and static verification images were captured every 10° for 0°–90° and 360°–270°. The baseline drift was assessed with real‐time monitoring of the motionless phantom over 20 min. The gated‐delivered‐dose equivalency was assessed using the electron portal imaging device and gamma test (1%/1mm) in reference to non‐gated delivery. Results: The maximum couch‐angle dependency error occurs in longitudinal and lateral directions and is reduced significantly (P < 0.05) from 1‐level (1.3 ± 0.4 mm) to 2‐level (0.8 ± 0.3 mm) calibration. The MV cube calibration does not further reduce the couch‐angle dependency error (0.8 ± 0.2 mm) on average. The baseline drift error plateaus at 0.3 ± 0.1 mm after 10 min. The gated‐delivered‐dose equivalency has a >98% gamma‐test passing rate. Conclusion: A commissioning method is recommended using the 3D plate calibration, which is verified by radiation isocenter and validated with couch‐angle dependency, baseline drift, and gated‐delivered‐dose equivalency tests. Whole-body three-dimensional surface imaging (3DSI) offers the ability to monitor morphologic changes in multiple areas without the need to individually scan every anatomical region of interest. One area of application is the digital quantification of leg volume. Certain types of morphology do not permit complete circumferential scan of the leg surface. A workflow capable of precisely estimating the missing data is therefore required. We thus aimed to describe and apply a novel workflow to collect bilateral leg volume measurements from whole-body 3D surface scans regardless of leg morphology and to assess workflow precision. For each study participant, whole-body 3DSI was conducted twice successively in a single session with subject repositioning between scans. Paired samples of bilateral leg volume were calculated from the 3D surface data, with workflow variations for complete and limited leg surface visibility. Workflow precision was assessed by calculating the relative percent differences between repeated leg volumes. A total of 82 subjects were included in this study. The mean relative differences between paired left and right leg volumes were 0.73 ± 0.62% and 0.82 ± 0.65%. The workflow variations for completely and partially visible leg surfaces yielded similarly low values. The workflow examined in this study provides a precise method to digitally monitor leg volume regardless of leg morphology. It could aid in objectively comparing medical treatment options of the leg in a clinical setting. The Catalyst HD (C‐RAD Positioning AB, Uppsala, Sweden) optical surface imaging (OSI) system is able to manage interfractional patient positioning, intrafractional motion monitoring, and non‐contact respiratory gating without x‐ray exposure for radiation therapy. In recent years, a novel high‐precision surface registration algorithm for stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS algorithm) has been released. This study aimed to evaluate the technical performance of the OSI system using rigid phantoms, by comparing the conventional and SRS algorithms. To determine the system's technical performance, isocenter displacements were calculated by surface image registration via the OSI system using head, thorax, and pelvis rigid phantoms. The reproducibility of positioning was evaluated by the mean value calculated by repeating the registration 10 times, without moving each phantom. The accuracy of positioning was evaluated by the mean value of the residual error, where the 10 offset values given to each phantom were subtracted from the isocenter displacement values. The stability of motion monitoring was evaluated by measuring isocenter drift during 20 min and averaging it over 10 measurements. For the head phantom, all tests were compared with the mask types and algorithms. As a result, for all sites and both algorithms, the reproducibility, accuracy, and stability for translation and rotation were <0.1 mm and <0.1°, <1.0 mm and <1.0°, and <0.1 mm and <0.1°, respectively. In particular, the SRS algorithm had a small absolute error and standard deviation of calculated isocenter displacement, and a significantly higher reproducibility and accuracy than the conventional algorithm (P < 0.01). There was no difference in the stability between the algorithms (P = 0.0280). Background/Objectives: Three-dimensional (3D) analysis of maxillofacial structures in dysmorphic patients offers clinical advantages over 2D analysis due to its high accuracy and precision in measuring many morphological parameters. Currently, no reliable gold standard exists for calculating 3D volumetric measurements of maxillofacial structures when captured by 3D surface imaging techniques. The aim of this scoping review is to provide an overview of the scientific literature related to 3D surface imaging methods used for volumetric analysis of the dysmorphic maxillofacial structures of patients affected by CL/P or other syndromes and to provide an update on the existing protocols, methods, and, when available, reference data. Methods: A total of 17 papers selected according to strict inclusion and exclusion criteria were reviewed for the qualitative analysis out of more than 4500 articles published between 2002 and 2024 that were retrieved from the main electronic scientific databases according to the PRISMA-ScR guidelines. A qualitative synthesis of the protocols used for the selection of the anatomical areas of interest and details on the methods used for the calculation of their volume was completed. Results: The results suggest a great degree of heterogeneity between the reviewed studies in all the aspects analysed (patient population, anatomical structure, area selection, and volume calculation), which prevents any chance of direct comparison between the reported volumetric data. Conclusions: Our qualitative analysis revealed dissimilarities in the procedures specified in the studies, highlighting the need to develop uniform methods and protocols and the need for comparative studies to verify the validity of methods in order to achieve high levels of scientific evidence, homogeneity of volumetric data, and clinical consensus on the methods to use for 3D volumetric surface-based analysis. Autologous breast reconstruction (ABR) may be more cost-effective and offer superior patient quality of life compared to prosthetic implant-based reconstruction but it involves heightened surgical complexity and extended operative time. Imaging facilitates surgical planning, patient selection, and reduces the time spent in the operating room, thereby enhancing the likelihood of surgical success and decreasing complication rates. Advanced imaging has also spurred innovative surgical techniques aimed at improving aesthetic outcomes and minimizing donor-site morbidity, including robotic-assisted deep inferior epigastric flap perforator (DIEP) flap harvest and stacked microsurgical flaps. The evolution of imaging actively shapes clinical management in the field. Ultrasonography (US), computed tomography angiography (CTA), and magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) stand out as the most extensively researched imaging modalities for ABR. Ongoing advancements include "real-time" angiography and three-dimensional (3D) surface imaging, and future prospects incorporate augmented or virtual reality (AR/VR) and artificial intelligence (AI). Purpose: To improve the setup reproducibility of neck curvature using real-time optical surface imaging (OSI) guidance on 2 regions of interest (ROIs) to infer cervical spine (c-spine) curvature for surface-guided radiotherapy (SGRT) of head-and-neck (HN) and c-spine cancer. Methods: A novel SGRT setup approach was designed to reproduce neck curvature with 2 ROIs: upper-chest ROI and open-face ROI. It was hypothesized that the neck curvature could be reproduced if both ROIs were aligned within ±3 mm/2˚ tolerance. This was tested prospectively in 7 volunteers using real-time 3D-OSI guidance and lateral 2D-photography verification after the 3D and 2D references were captured from the initial conventional setup. Real-time SGRT was performed to align chest-ROI and face-ROI, and the longitudinal distance between them was adjustable using a head-support slider. Verification of neck curvature anteriorly and posteriorly was achieved by overlaying edge-extracted lateral pictures. Retrospectively, the relationship between anterior surface and spinal canal alignment was checked in 11 patients using their simulation CT (simCT) and setup cone-beam CT (CBCT). After the anterior surface was rigidly aligned, the spinal canal alignment was checked and quantified using the mean-distance-to-agreement (MDA) and DICE similarity index, and surface-to-spine correlation was calculated. Results: The reproducibility of neck curvatures using the 2xROI SGRT setup is verified and the mean neck-outline-matching difference is within ±2 mm in lateral photographic overlays. The chest-ROI alignment takes 110 ± 58 s and the face-ROI takes 60 ± 35 s. When the anterior body surface is aligned (MDA = 1.1 ± 0.6 mm, DICE = 0.96 ± 0.02,) the internal spinal canal is also aligned (MDA = 1.0 ± 0.3 mm, DICE = 0.84 ± 0.04) in 11 patients. The surface-to-spine correlation is c = 0.90 (MDA) and c = 0.85 (DICE). Conclusion: This study demonstrates the feasibility of the novel 2-ROI SGRT setup technique to achieve reproducible neck and c-spine curvature regardless of neck visibility and availability as ROI. Purpose: To develop a novel approach to accurately verify patient set up in proton radiotherapy, especially for the verification of the nozzle - body surface air gap and source-to-skin distance (SSD), the consistency and accuracy of which is extremely important in proton treatment.Methods: Patient body surfaces can be captured and monitored with the optical surface imaging system during radiation treatment for improved intrafraction accuracy. An in-house software package was developed to reconstruct the patient body surface in the treatment position from the optical surface imaging reference capture and to calculate the corresponding nozzle - body surface air gap and SSD. To validate this method, a mannequin was scanned on a CT simulator and proton plans were generated for a Mevion S250 Proton machine with 20 gantry/couch angle combinations, as well as two different snout sizes, in the Varian Eclipse Treatment Planning Systems (TPS). The surface generated in the TPS from the CT scan was imported into the optical imaging system as an RT Structure for the purpose of validating and establishing a benchmark for ground truth comparison. The optical imaging surface reference capture was acquired at the treatment setup position after orthogonal kV imaging to confirm the positioning. The air gaps and SSDs calculated with the developed method from the surface captured at the treatment setup position (VRT surface) and the CT based surface imported from the TPS were compared to those calculated in TPS. The same approach was also applied to 14 clinical treatment fields for 10 patients to further validate the methodology.Results: The air gaps and SSDs calculated from our program agreed well with the corresponding values derived from the TPS. For the phantom results, using the CT surface, the absolute differences in the air gap were 0.45 mm ± 0.33 mm for the small snout, and 0.51 mm ± 0.49 mm for the large snout, and the absolute differences in SSD were 0.68 mm ± 0.42 mm regardless of snout size. Using the VRT surface, the absolute differences in air gap were 1.17 mm ± 1.17 mm and 2.1 mm ± 3.09 mm for the small and large snouts, respectively, and the absolute differences in SSD were 0.81 mm ± 0.45 mm. Similarly, for patient data, using the CT surface, the absolute differences in air gap were 0.42 mm ± 0.49 mm, and the absolute differences in SSD were 1.92 mm ± 1.4 mm. Using the VRT surface, the absolute differences in the air gap were 2.35 mm ± 2.3 mm, and the absolute differences in SSD were 2.7 mm ± 2.17 mm.Conclusion: These results showed the feasibility and robustness of using an optical surface imaging approach to conveniently determine the air gap and SSD in proton treatment, providing an accurate and efficient way to confirm the target depth at treatment. Purpose: To evaluate the effectiveness of surface image guidance (SG) for pre‐imaging setup of stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) patients, and to investigate the impact of SG reference surface selection on this process. Methods and materials: 284 SBRT fractions (SG‐SBRT = 113, non‐SG‐SBRT = 171) were retrospectively evaluated. Differences between initial (pre‐imaging) and treatment couch positions were extracted from the record‐and‐verify system and compared for the two groups. Rotational setup discrepancies were also computed. The utility of orthogonal kVs in reducing CBCT shifts in the SG‐SBRT/non‐SG‐SBRT groups was also calculated. Additionally, the number of CBCTs acquired for setup was recorded and the average for each cohort was compared. These data served to evaluate the effectiveness of surface imaging in pre‐imaging patient positioning and its potential impact on the necessity of including orthogonal kVs for setup. Since reference surface selection can affect SG setup, daily surface reproducibility was estimated by comparing camera‐acquired surface references (VRT surface) at each fraction to the external surface of the planning CT (DICOM surface) and to the VRT surface from the previous fraction. Results: The reduction in all initial‐to‐treatment translation/rotation differences when using SG‐SBRT was statistically significant (Rank‐Sum test, α = 0.05). Orthogonal kV imaging kept CBCT shifts below reimaging thresholds in 19%/51% of fractions for SG‐SBRT/non‐SG‐SBRT cohorts. Differences in average number of CBCTs acquired were not statistically significant. The reference surface study found no statistically significant differences between the use of DICOM or VRT surfaces. Conclusions: SG‐SBRT improved pre‐imaging treatment setup compared to in‐room laser localization alone. It decreased the necessity of orthogonal kV imaging prior to CBCT but did not affect the average number of CBCTs acquired for setup. Chalk is a very fine-grained carbonate and can accommodate high porosity which is a key characteristic for high-quality hydrocarbon reservoirs. A standard procedure within Improved Oil Recovery (IOR) is seawater-injection which repressurizes the reservoir pore pressure. Long-term seawater-injection will influence mineralogical processes as dissolution and precipitation of secondary minerals. These secondary minerals (<1 micrometer) precipitate during flooding experiments mimicking reservoir conditions. Due to their small sizes, analysis from traditional scanning electron microscopy combined with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy is not conclusive because of insufficient spatial resolution and detection limit. Therefore, chalk was analyzed with high-resolution imaging by helium ion microscopy (HIM) combined with secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) for the first time. Our aim was to identify mineral phases at sub-micrometer scale and identify locations of brine–rock interactions. In addition, we wanted to test if current understanding of these alteration processes can be improved with the combination of complementary imaging techniques and give new insights to IOR. The HIM-SIMS imaging revealed well-defined crystal boundaries and provided images of excellent lateral resolution, allowing for identification of specific mineral phases. Using this new methodology, we developed chemical identification of clay minerals and could define their exact location on micron-sized coccolith grains. This shows that it is essential to study mineralogical processes at nanometer scale in general, specifically in the research field of applied petroleum geology within IOR. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Surface-guided radiation therapy (SGRT) employs a non-invasive real-time optical surface imaging (OSI) technique for patient surface motion monitoring during radiotherapy. The main purpose of this study is to verify the real-time tracking accuracy of SGRT for respiratory motion and provide a fitting method to detect the time delay of gating.Methods: A respiratory motion phantom was utilized to simulate respiratory motion using 17 cosine breathing pattern curves with various periods and amplitudes. The motion tracking of the phantom was performed by the Catalyst™ system. The tracking accuracy of the system (with period and amplitude variations) was evaluated by analyzing the adjusted coefficient of determination (A_R2) and root mean square error (RMSE). Furthermore, 13 actual respiratory curves, which were categorized into regular and irregular patterns, were selected and then simulated by the phantom. The Fourier transform was applied to the respiratory curves, and tracking accuracy was compared through the quantitative analyses of curve similarity using the Pearson correlation coefficient (PCC). In addition, the time delay of amplitude-based respiratory-gating radiotherapy based on the OSI system with various beam hold times was tested using film dosimetry for the Elekta Versa-HD and Varian Edge linacs. A dose convolution-fitting method was provided to accurately measure the beam-on and beam-off time delays.Results: A_R2 and RMSE for the cosine curves were 0.9990-0.9996 and 0.110-0.241 mm for periods ranging from 1 s to 10 s and 0.9990-0.9994 and 0.059-0.175 mm for amplitudes ranging from 3 mm to 15 mm. The PCC for the actual respiratory curves ranged from 0.9955 to 0.9994, which was not significantly affected by breathing patterns. For gating radiotherapy, the average beam-on and beam-off time delays were 1664 ± 72 and 25 ± 30 ms for Versa-HD and 303 ± 45 and 34 ± 25 ms for Edge, respectively. The time delay was relatively stable as the beam hold time increased.Conclusions: The OSI technique provides high accuracy for respiratory motion tracking. The proposed dose convolution-fitting method can accurately measure the time delay of respiratory-gating radiotherapy. The three-dimensional (3-D) micro-scale surface imaging system based on the digital fringe projection technique for the assessments of microfiber and metric screw is presented in this paper. The proposed system comprises a digital light processing (DLP) projector, a set of optical lenses, a microscope, and a charge coupled device (CCD). The digital seven-step fringe patterns from the DLP projector pass through a set of optical lenses before being focused on the target surface. A set of optical lenses is designed for adjustment and size coupling of fringe patterns. A high-resolution CCD camera is employed to picture these distorted fringe patterns. The wrapped phase map is calculated by seven-step phase-shifting calculation from these distorted fringe patterns. The unwrapping calculation with quality guided path is introduced to compute the absolute phase values. The dimensional calibration methods are used to acquire the transformation between real 3-D shape and the absolute phase value. The capability of complex surface measurement for our system is demonstrated by using ISO standard screw M1.6. The experimental results for microfiber with 3 μm diameter indicate that the spatial and vertical resolutions can reach about 3 μm in our system. Background: Three-dimensional Surface Imaging (3DSI) is a well-established method to objectively monitor morphological changes in the female breast in the field of plastic surgery. In contrast, in radiation oncology we are still missing effective tools, which can objectively and reproducibly assess and document adverse events in breast cancer radiotherapy within the framework of clinical studies. The aim of the present study was to apply structured-light technology as a non-invasive and objective approach for the documentation of cosmetic outcome and early effects of breast radiotherapy as a proof of principle.Methods: Weekly 3DSI images of patients receiving either conventionally fractionated radiation treatment (CF-RT) or hypofractionated radiation treatment (HF-RT) were acquired during the radiotherapy treatment and clinical follow-up. The portable Artec Eva scanner (Artec 3D Inc., Luxembourg) recorded 3D surface images for the analysis of breast volumes and changes in skin appearance. Statistical analysis compared the impact of the two different fractionation regimens and the differences between the treated and the contralateral healthy breast.Results: Overall, 38 patients and a total of 214 breast imaging sessions were analysed. Patients receiving CF-RT showed a significantly higher frequency of breast erythema compared to HF-RT (93.3% versus 34.8%, p = 0.003) during all observed imaging sessions. Moreover, we found a statistically significant (p < 0.05) volumetric increase of the treated breast of the entire cohort between baseline (379 ± 196 mL) and follow-up imaging at 3 months (437 ± 224 mL), as well as from week 3 of radiotherapy (391 ± 198 mL) to follow-up imaging. In both subgroups of patients undergoing either CF-RT or HF-RT, there was a statistically significant increase (p < 0.05) in breast volumes between baseline and 3 months follow-up. There were no statistically significant skin or volumetric changes of the untreated healthy breasts.Conclusions: This is the first study utilizing 3D structured-light technology as a non-invasive and objective approach for the documentation of patients receiving breast radiotherapy. 3DSI offers potential as a non-invasive tool to objectively and precisely monitor the female breast in a radiooncological setting, allowing clinicians to objectively distinguish outcomes of different therapy modalities. Radar sounder surface imaging is a rather unexplored approach to the analysis of planetary bodies. While a radar sounder is an instrument specifically designed for subsurface investigations, a particular set of power measurements (denoted as off-nadir surface echoes) can be exploited together with an external digital elevation model to produce images of the investigated surface at meters wavelength. The use of the off-nadir data may also reveal the presence of previously undetected subsurface features. In this article, we present a method for producing surface roughness images by high-frequency (HF) radar sounder data. The study of surface roughness in the HF band is particularly useful for both geologic studies and landing-zone reconnaissance as it is evaluated at meters to hundreds of meters horizontal scale. The proposed method combines off-nadir data of the Shallow Radar Sounder (SHARAD) with the Mars Orbiter Laser Altimeter (MOLA) digital elevation model. The produced roughness images at 20 MHz (15-m wavelength) of the Martian surface provide higher coverage and resolution of the surface roughness characterization at a 10–100-m horizontal scale than previous SHARAD work. By comparing the experimental roughness image with the one obtained by radar backscattering simulations, it is possible to identify subsurface features. In our experiments, we were able to produce a bidimensional image of a previously undetected large buried crater (10 km × 12 km) located in the Nili Fossae. Using a chemical process, urea and formaldehyde were converted into silver and nickel nanoparticles, which were then calcined at 800 °C. X-ray diffraction was used to verify the crystalline structure and chemical makeup of silver and nickel nanoparticles. Surface morphology and particle size distribution were studied using surface imaging techniques such as atomic force microscopy. Transmission electron microscopy and scanning electron microscopy were used to validate the spherical and porous-like morphology of the silver and nickel nanoparticles. The spherical shapes of silver and nickel metal ions are the reason for the apparent white dots. The X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that the particle sizes of nickel and silver metal ions are 13.71 nm and 41.43 nm, respectively. The synthetic Ag and Ni NPs were also tested for their ability to inhibit the growth of human pathogens, namely provisional Escherichia coli (E. coli) (Gram − ve) and Candida albicans (C. albicans) (Gram + ve), by screening for anti-biofilm activity. Objectives: To evaluate the validity and reliability of smartphone-generated three-dimensional (3D) facial images for routine evaluation of the oronasal region of patients with cleft by comparing their accuracy to that of direct anthropometry (DA) and 3dMD. Materials and methods: Eighteen soft-tissue facial landmarks were manually labelled on each of the 17 (9 males and 8 females; mean age 23.3 ± 5.4 years) cleft lip and palate (CLP) patients' faces. Two surface imaging systems, 3dMDface and Bellus3D FaceApp, were used to perform two imaging operations on each labelled face. Subsequently, 32 inter-landmark facial measurements were directly measured on the labelled faces and digitally measured on the 3D facial images. Statistical comparisons were made between smartphone-generated 3D facial images (SGI), DA, and 3dMD measurements. Results: The SGI measurements were slightly higher than those from DA and 3dMD, but the mean differences between inter-landmark measurements were not statistically significant across all three methods. In terms of clinical acceptability, 16% and 59% of measures showed differences of ≤ 3 mm or ≤ 5º, with good agreement between DA and SGI and 3dMD and SGI, respectively. A small systematic bias of ± 0.2 mm was observed generally among the three methods. Additionally, the mean absolute difference between the DA and SGI methods was the highest for linear measurements (1.31 ± 0.34 mm) and angular measurements (4.11 ± 0.76º). Conclusions: SGI displayed fair trueness compared to DA and 3dMD. It exhibited high accuracy in the orolabial area and specific central and flat areas within the oronasal region. Notwithstanding this, it has limited clinical applicability for assessing the entire oronasal region of patients with CLP. From a clinical application perspective, SGI should accurately encompass the entire oronasal region for optimal clinical use. Femtosecond laser processing combines highly accurate structuring with low residual heating of materials, low thermal damage, and nonlinear absorption processes, making it suitable for the machining of transparent brittle materials. However, with high average powers and laser pulse repetition rates, residual heating becomes relevant. Here, we present a study of the femtosecond laser pulse-on-demand operation regime, combined with regular scanners, aiming to improve throughput and quality of processing regardless of the scanner's capabilities. We developed two methods to define the needed pulse-on-demand trigger sequences that compensate for the initial accelerating scanner movements. The effects of pulse-on-demand operation were studied in detail using direct process monitoring with a fast thermal camera and indirect process monitoring with optical and topographical surface imaging of final structures, both showing clear advantages of pulse-on-demand operation in precision, thermal effects, and structure shape control. The ability to compensate for irregular scanner movement is the basis for simplified, cheaper, and faster femtosecond laser processing of brittle and heat-susceptible materials. (1) Background: Three-dimensional (3D) volumetric assessment is receiving increased recognition in breast surgery. It is commonly used for preoperative planning and postoperative control with the patient standing in an upright position. Recently, intraoperative use was evaluated with patients in the supine position. The aim of this prospective study was to evaluate the volumetric changes in 3D surface imaging depending on the patient's position. (2) Methods: 3D volumetric analysis was performed using a Vectra-H2 device with patients in standing, sitting, and supine positions. A total of 100 complete datasets of female breasts were included in the study. The measured volumes of each evaluated breast (n = 200) were compared between the three positions. (3) Results: The mean difference between the 3D volumetric assessments of the sitting and standing positions per breast was 7.15 cc and, thus, statistically insignificant (p = 0.28). However, the difference between supine and standing positions, at 120.31 cc, was significant (p < 0.01). (4) Conclusions: The 3D volumetric assessment of breasts in the supine position did not statistically correlate with the validated assessment of breast volume in the standing position while breast volume in the sitting position is reliable and correlates with the assessment of a standing patient. Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) is an emerging technique for ultra-dense seismic observation, which provides a new method for high-resolution sub-surface seismic imaging. Recently a large number of linear DAS arrays have been used for two-dimensional S-wave near-surface imaging in urban areas. In order to explore the feasibility of three-dimensional (3D) structure imaging using a DAS array, we carried out an active source experiment at the Beijing National Earth Observatory. We deployed a 1 km optical cable in a rectangular shape, and the optical cable was recast into 250 sensors with a channel spacing of 4 m. The DAS array clearly recorded the P, S and surface waves generated by a hammer source. The first-arrival P wave travel times were first picked with a Short-Term Average/Long-Term Average (STA/LTA) method and further manually checked. The P-wave signals recorded by the DAS are consistent with those recorded by the horizontal components of short-period seismometers. At shorter source-receiver distances, the picked P-wave arrivals from the DAS recording are consistent with vertical component recordings of seismometers, but they clearly lag behind the latter at greater distances. This is likely due to a combination of the signal-to-noise ratio and the polarization of the incoming wave. Then, we used the TomoDD software to invert the 3D P-wave velocity structure for the uppermost 50 m with a resolution of 10 m. The inverted P-wave velocity structures agree well with the S-wave velocity structure previously obtained through ambient noise tomography. Our study indicates the feasibility of 3D near-surface imaging with the active source and DAS array. However, the inverted absolute velocity values at large depths may be biased due to potential time shifts between the DAS recording and seismometer at large source-receiver distances. Abstract: Purpose: We calculated setup margins for whole breast radiotherapy during voluntary deep‐inspiration breath‐hold (vDIBH) using real‐time surface imaging (SI). Methods and Materials: Patients (n = 58) with a 27‐to‐31 split between right‐ and left‐sided cancers were analyzed. Treatment beams were gated using AlignRT by registering the whole breast region‐of‐interest to the surface generated from the simulation CT scan. AlignRT recorded (three‐dimensional) 3D displacements and the beam‐on‐state every 0.3 s. Means and standard deviations of the displacements during vDIBH for each fraction were used to calculate setup margins. Intra‐DIBH stability and the intrafraction reproducibility were estimated from the medians of the 5th to 95th percentile range of the translations in each breath‐hold and fraction, respectively. Results: A total of 7269 breath‐holds were detected over 1305 fractions in which a median dose of 200 cGy was delivered. Each fraction was monitored for 5.95 ± 2.44 min. Calculated setup margins were 4.8 mm (A/P), 4.9 mm (S/I), and 6.4 mm (L/R). The intra‐DIBH stability and the intrafraction reproducibility were ≤0.7 mm and ≤2.2 mm, respectively. The isotropic margin according to SI (9.2 mm) was comparable to other institutions’ calculations that relied on x‐ray imaging and/or spirometry for patients with left‐sided cancer (9.8–11.0 mm). Likewise, intra‐DIBH variability and intrafraction reproducibility of breast surface measured with SI agreed with spirometry‐based positioning to within 1.2 and 0.36 mm, respectively. Conclusions: We demonstrated that intra‐DIBH variability, intrafraction reproducibility, and setup margins are similar to those reported by peer studies who utilized spirometry‐based positioning. We present temperature maps of RS CVn star λ Andromedae, reconstructed from interferometric data acquired in 2010 and 2011 by the Michigan Infra-Red Combiner instrument at the Center for High Angular Resolution Astronomy Array. To constrain the stellar parameters required for this imaging task, we first modeled the star using our GPU-accelerated code SImulation and Modeling Tool for Optical Interferometry. The stellar surface was then imaged using our open source interferometric imaging code ROTational Image Reconstruction, in the process further refining the estimation of stellar parameters. We report that the measured angular diameter is 2.742 ± 0.010 mas with a limb-darkening coefficient of 0.231 ± 0.024. While our images are consistent with those of prior works, we provide updated physical parameters for λ Andromedae (R⋆ = 7.78 ± 0.05 R⊙, M⋆ = 1.24 ± 0.72 M⊙, and log L/L⊙ = 1.46 ± 0.04). In this study, we propose a complementary-metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) image sensor with a self-resetting system demonstrating a high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) to detect small intrinsic signals such as a hemodynamic reaction or neural activity in a mouse brain. The photodiode structure was modified from N-well/P-sub to P+/N-well/P-sub to increase the photodiode capacitance to reduce the number of self-resets required to decrease the unstable stage. Moreover, our new relay board was used for the first time. As a result, an effective SNR of over 70 dB was achieved within the same pixel size and fill factor. The unstable state was drastically reduced. Thus, we will be able to detect neural activity. With its compact size, this device has significant potential to become an intrinsic signal detector in freely moving animals. The interferometric imaging radar altimeter (InIRA) is a new generation radar altimeter, which can provide two-dimensional images of the sea surface topography at high resolution along a wide swath. This article proposes a method for the simulation of sea surface images measured by InIRA. First, the Pierson–Moskowitz wave spectrum and two-scale model are used to simulate the sea surface from which elevation data is to be acquired. This simulated sea surface is then divided into small triangular facets using Delaunay triangulation. Second, the backscattering cross sections of these small facets are calculated via application of quasi-mirror scattering theory, and the backscattering coefficient of the simulated region derived via coherent superposition. Third, system parameters are set, consistent with the basic principle of InIRA. Assuming that the signal transmitted is a linear frequency modulation pulse signal, the simulation images are then derived using the range Doppler and back projection algorithms. By inverting the interferometric phase diagram, elevation estimates can be derived, and compared with original simulated sea levels. Purpose Historically, the process of positioning a patient prior to imaging verification used a set of permanent patient marks, or tattoos, placed subcutaneously. After aligning to these tattoos, plan specific shifts are applied and the position is verified with imaging, such as cone-beam computed tomography ( CBCT). Due to a variety of factors, these marks may deviate from the desired position or it may be hard to align the patient to these marks. Surface-based imaging systems are an alternative method of verifying initial positioning with the entire skin surface instead of tattoos. The aim of this study was to retrospectively compare the CBCT-based 3D corrections of patients initially positioned with tattoos against those positioned with the C- RAD Catalyst HD surface imager system. Methods A total of 6000 individual fractions (600-900 per site per method) were randomly selected and the post- CBCT 3D corrections were calculated and recorded. For both positioning methods, four common treatment site combinations were evaluated: pelvis/lower extremities, abdomen, chest/upper extremities, and breast. Statistical differences were evaluated using a paired sample Wilcoxon signed-rank test with significance level of <0.01. Results The average magnitudes of the 3D shift vectors for tattoos were 0.9 ± 0.4 cm, 1.0 ± 0.5 cm, 0.9 ± 0.6 cm and 1.4 ± 0.7 cm for the pelvis/lower extremities, abdomen, chest/upper extremities and breast, respectively. For the Catalyst HD, the average magnitude of the 3D shifts for the pelvis/lower extremities, abdomen, chest/upper extremities and breast were 0.6 ± 0.3 cm, 0.5 ± 0.3 cm, 0.5 ± 0.3 cm and 0.6 ± 0.2 cm, respectively. Statistically significant differences ( P < 0.01) in the 3D shift vectors were found for all four sites. Conclusion This study shows that the overall 3D shift corrections for patients initially aligned with the C- RAD Catalyst HD were significantly smaller than those aligned with subcutaneous tattoos. Background Handheld 3-dimensional surface imaging (3DSI) devices of various precision are becoming more versatile in their applications and more widely accepted by clinicians for documentation. Objectives The authors sought to compare the precision of facial volumetric change measurements of 3 3DSI devices in the cadaveric model: Eva (Artec 3D Inc. Luxembourg), Sense (3D Systems, Rock Hill, SC), and iSense (3D Systems, Rock Hill, SC). Methods A total of 336 scanning and analysis procedures were carried out in 4 cephalic specimens (mean age, 77.25 ± 24.3 years; mean BMI, 21.76 ± 6.6 kg/m2). Two superficial and 2 supraperiosteal regions of interest were injected with 0.5-cc aliquots and subsequently scanned using the 3 different scanners. Correlation coefficients between the injected and measured volume were computed. Results The correlation coefficient for the Eva scanner was for subcutaneous regions of interest rp = 0.935 and for the supraperiosteal regions of interest rp = 0.966, compared with rp = 0.760 and rp = 0.364 (superficial vs supraperiosteal) for the Sense and rp = 0.694 and rp = 0.382 (superficial vs supraperiosteal) for the iSense scanner. Conclusions 3DSI devices are capable of measuring surface volume changes of the face at a level of 0.5-cc surface volume change and can thus be regarded as useful tools in the preinterventional, intrainterventional, and postinterventional phases of a treatment. One of the 3 evaluated scanners provided very high correlation coefficients between the injected and the measured volume (Eva), whereas the other evaluated 3DSI devices provided moderate (Sense) and low (iSense) coefficients. Petroleum-based plastic coatings are used to create moisture barriers and heat-sealable layers on paperboard. Despite their good convertibility and barrier properties, the use of sustainable biobased polymer coatings as alternatives has attracted interest due to environmental concerns. In this study, the convertibility and water resistance of bio-based multilayered coating composed of biowax and polylactic acid (PLA) were investigated. Convertibility of the coatings was studied through heat-sealing experiments and by evaluating their durability when they were subjected to high stresses during creasing and folding. Surface imaging was performed to evaluate film formation and coating integrity. The wettability and water absorption properties of the coatings were also investigated. Different coating compositions resulted in different film formation processes, surface appearances, and water absorption. The presence of wax in a coating increased its hydrophobicity and reduced its water absorption already with the smallest addition in the coating. However, a high wax content in the coating caused defects in the coating layer, whereas the addition of PLA increased the convertibility of the coated material. This indicates that water resistance, heat sealability, and convertibility can be simultaneously achieved by optimizing the composition of wax and PLA coatings. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Mesoporous materials find widespread applications due to their high specific surface area, contributing to enhanced performance. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) observation of mesoporous materials provides valuable insights into their mesostructures. However, direct observation of the outermost surfaces, which often dictate material properties, remains challenging, especially for highly insulating and fragile compounds. In this study, utilizing SEM observation with ultra‐low‐voltage acceleration directed by Gemini column is proposed to achieve direct surface imaging of mesoporous organic materials with highly insulating and fragile characteristics. By observing mesostructured polymers obtained through a soft‐templating method without washing, stuffed pores are identified allowing the differentiation of micelle templates and polymer walls. Moreover, leveraging SEM measurements, a polymerization mechanism is proposed for dopamine on the polymer micelles adhered to the graphene oxide nanosheets. These findings demonstrate the potential of SEM measurements with ultra‐low accelerating voltage in facilitating surface observations of polymer‐derived nanomaterials characterized by high insulating properties and a fragile framework. This study presents a comprehensive discrete element method (DEM) simulation approach for the stretching of a filter fiber with a separated polydisperse particle structure on top. For a realistic interaction between the fiber surface and the particles, the original surface of the polymer fiber was projected onto the surface of the fiber cylinder using surface imaging technologies (atomic force microscopy (AFM) and white-light interferometry). In addition, the adhesive forces between particle–fiber and particle–particle contacts were calibrated in the DEM domain using values from self-conducted AFM measurements. Fiber stretching was implemented by the linear motion of small periodic fiber elements. Discretization problems were resolved through studying the stretching of a fiber segment at the size of 8 mm. A critical fiber element length was discovered to be ≈100 μm for minimizing discretization dependencies during the cracking of the particle structure. The number and density of particle–particle contacts within the particle loading on the fiber were obtained at two different elongation rates. Effects such as densification of the particulate structure and increased detachment due to additional air flow were demonstrated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
