The aim of this systematic review was to collect and align the research on social cognition impairments in adults with Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). In particular, we selected and analyzed papers on emotion recognition and processing, Theory of Mind (TOM), empathy, and other facets of social cognition as decision making. We identified 16 papers published between 2012 and 2022 which meet inclusion criteria. Papers search, selection, and extraction followed the PRISMA guidelines. In order to summarize data from papers, we used a narrative synthesis approach. Results show different evidence of impairment in social cognition domains in adults with ADHD. Our systematic review suggests the importance of promoting more research on this topic because it is essential to keep in mind that social cognition plays a central role in socialization and social relationships. Autistic people and those with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder are at a high risk of developing an eating disorder. While there is limited evidence on the relationship between other forms of neurodivergence and eating disorders, research suggests associations between giftedness, intellectual disability, obsessive–compulsive disorder, psychosis, Tourette's syndrome, and disordered eating. Factors underlying disordered eating and/or eating disorder risk for neurodivergent people are multifaceted and complex, encompassing a wide range of intertwined psychosocial, environmental, and biological processes. Moreover, research shows that neurodivergent individuals experience poorer treatment outcomes compared to neurotypical individuals. However, there is a paucity of research in this area overall. More specifically, lived experience-led research remains rare, despite its critical role for improving individualised eating disorder care, as well as mental healthcare more broadly. Indeed, the importance of eating disorder care individuation is increasingly being recognised, particularly within the context of neurodivergence, given the heterogeneous experiences and support needs of neurodivergent people affected by disordered eating and/or eating disorders. Furthermore, despite documented overlaps between various forms of neurodivergence (e.g., co-occurring autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder), research looking at eating disorders in the context of neurodivergence through a transdiagnostic perspective is scarce. This lived experience-led narrative review aims to shed light on the intersectional factors underlying elevated disordered eating and/or eating disorder risk for neurodivergent individuals. First, an overview of prevalence data is provided, followed by a thematic framework identifying factors underlying disordered eating and/or eating disorder risk in relation to neurodivergence. A critical appraisal of current eating disorder research and care is then offered before suggestions for neurodiversity-affirming eating disorder care are made. In this view, this paper offers a foundation for future empirical work in this nascent field of inquiry by providing a lived experience-led, transdiagnostic, and intersectional account of eating disorders in the context of neurodivergence. Background: Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is the most prevalent childhood psychiatric condition with profound public health, personal, and family consequences. ADHD requires comprehensive treatment; however, lack of communication and integration across multiple points of care is a substantial barrier to progress. Given the chronic and pervasive challenges associated with ADHD, innovative approaches are crucial. We developed the digital health intervention (DHI)—CoolTaCo [Cool Technology Assisting Co-regulation] to address these critical barriers. CoolTaCo uses Patient-Centered Digital Healthcare Technologies (PC-DHT) to promote co-regulation (child/parent), capture patient data, support efficient healthcare delivery, enhance patient engagement, and facilitate shared decision-making, thereby improving access to timely and targeted mental health intervention for children at significant risk for poor outcomes. The present paper will describe our planned protocol to evaluate the efficacy of CoolTaCo via randomized control trial (RCT). Methods/design: We will recruit 60 children (ages 8–12) with ADHD who will be randomized to either immediate (n = 30) or delayed (n = 30) treatment (i.e., a waitlist control group). Among those randomized to immediate treatment, half will be assigned to DHI (delivered via a smartwatch and smartphone application), the other half to an active control treatment as usual (TAU). Unlike the DHI group, the TAU group will receive the smartwatch with no assigned activities, applications, or interventions on the devices. The intervention period will last 16 weeks; after a participant has been in the delayed treatment group for 16 weeks and has completed the post-waiting period assessment, they will be randomly assigned to either the intervention or active control group. Thus, 30 participants will complete the intervention, and 30 will complete the active control, with half of the total sample completing a waitlist period. Discussion: Individuals with ADHD have complex needs. Despite improvement in outcomes following cognitive behavioral therapies (CBT) and pharmaceutical treatment, long-term maintenance is a challenge often not addressed by traditional medical approaches, and, as we described, ineffective approaches to information sharing across points of care create further barriers to progress. Our research will fill a significant gap in translating early treatment investments and gains into long-term, sustainable outcomes. Objectives: The aim of this study was to determine why and how adults with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) experience variable impairment and identify the processes and strategies adults with ADHD use to develop positive self-regulation skills. Methods: A mixed cohort of 11 participants (6 female and 5 male) from a university, an adult ADHD clinic and an ADHD support group in the UK were interviewed online between September 2021 and February 2022. Data were collected and analysed simultaneously, inspired by a constructivist grounded theory methodology. Results: Participants described a "polar awareness of difference" from others in terms of engagement and ADHD characteristics, and a "polar awareness of consciousness" experienced as the states of chaotic attention and hyperfocus, both of which impact core perceptions of self. Using an infinity paradigm, the results demonstrate unskilled attempts to self-regulate within and between these states using self-absorption or self-transcendence strategies, including their inherent challenges and energetic cost. Our results further indicate that at the centre of this dynamic paradigm, creative awareness strategies exist, which exemplify polarity awareness and the regulation of that awareness supported by an authentic inner compass (AIC). Conclusions: This paper presents the empirical foundation for the ADHD Creative Awareness Theory (CAT)—a new theory for understanding the experience of ADHD consciousness and environmental engagement. Practical implications are explored, and recommendations include use of the CAT as a framework for understanding and development of inherent self-regulation skills for adults with ADHD. Background: Recent years have seen a surge of interest in dual-modality imaging systems that integrate functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) and electroencephalography (EEG) to probe brain function. This review aims to explore the advancements and clinical applications of this technology, emphasizing the synergistic integration of fNIRS and EEG. Methods: The review begins with a detailed examination of the fundamental principles and distinctive features of fNIRS and EEG techniques. It includes critical technical specifications, data-processing methodologies, and analysis techniques, alongside an exhaustive evaluation of 30 seminal studies that highlight the strengths and weaknesses of the fNIRS-EEG bimodal system. Results: The paper presents multiple case studies across various clinical domains—such as attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, infantile spasms, depth of anesthesia, intelligence quotient estimation, and epilepsy—demonstrating the fNIRS-EEG system's potential in uncovering disease mechanisms, evaluating treatment efficacy, and providing precise diagnostic options. Diagnoses of ADHD in adults continue to increase, and the number of college students with ADHD has risen in particular. Qualitative research on this population has been common, but it is not clear what conclusions can be drawn from this research base. We conducted a review of the qualitative research on college students with ADHD over a 20-year period (2002–2021). A systematic search yielded 41 papers that were reviewed in detail. Studies were grouped into four topic areas, with the most researched area being the college experience for these students. Most sample sizes were small, with a median of 10 participants, and most studies used students' self-reports of having ADHD as the sole method of diagnosis identification/verification. Very few studies (7.3%) included a comparison group of students without disabilities. These results suggest that the qualitative research base on college students with ADHD has significant limitations, including difficulties with generalization, uncertainty regarding diagnostic accuracy, and an inability to make comparative statements about students with vs. without ADHD. Background: Young people and adults with ADHD are at risk of a range of physical health problems. There is limited guidance on how to approach health problems in ADHD, and especially around 16-25 year olds who will be transitioning from paediatric to adult care. The aim of this scoping review was to identify psychosocial interventions that target physical health in young people and adults with ADHD. Methods: We constructed searches in MEDLINE, PsycInfo, EMBASE of adolescents, young people and adults. Inclusion criteria were; studies of psychosocial interventions examining a component of physical health, applicable to people aged 16-25, with clinical or research diagnoses of ADHD. Data were extracted using a data extraction tool and tabulated, including study intervention framing/aims, population, intervention, and relevant outcomes (including specific statistics where relevant). Results: Our search identified 22 unique papers covering, psychosocial interventions targeting at least one of sleep (n=7), smoking (n=3), substance/alcohol use (n=4), physical health/exercise (n=6) and general health (n=3). Studies examined psychotherapy/behaviour interventions (n=12), psychoeducation (n=4), digital (n=2) and social interventions (n=4). There was significant heterogeneity in intervention framing, outcome measures and population. Conclusion: Further work on the impact of targeted physical health interventions, with explicit reference to a conceptual framework of poor health in ADHD is required. Due to the imperfect development of the brain and the varied biological, environmental, and experiential elements that arise during childhood and adolescence, paediatric neuropsychology differs from adult neuropsychology. According to current theories, certain brain regions have a reciprocal effect on various neuro functioning systems, which, in turn, affects the child's ability to think and perceive. The interaction of functioning systems most likely affects the child's behavioural, psychological, and cognitive manifestation of a childhood condition. These days, parents worry about their children doing well in school. A variety of intelligence scores are utilised to evaluate children's cognitive abilities. Intelligence research is important since it sheds light on the individual's qualities, shortcomings, and special talents. Currently, a large number of standardised tests are used since intelligence is seen as a measurable commodity. When diagnosing dyslexia, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, autism spectrum disorders, intellectual disability, and other problems in the paediatric population, intelligence scales play a critical role. It is vital to recognise that every exam has a unique set of constraints. This paper explores the benefits and drawbacks of the currently utilised intelligence measures while offering an overview of each. The goal of this paper was to describe the context within which the PASS theory of intelligence was conceived and the reasons why this theory was used to guide the construction of the Cognitive Assessment System and the several versions of the Cognitive Assessment System, 2nd Edition. We also discuss validity issues such as equitable assessment of intelligence, using PASS scores to examine a pattern of strengths and weaknesses related to academic variability and diagnosis, and the utility of PASS scores for intervention. We provide summaries of the research that informs our suggestions that intelligence testing should be theory-based, not constrained by the seminal work of test developers in the early 1900s, and neurocognitive processes should be measured based on brain function. Coping with academic demands can be challenging for university students with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Treatment can help them cope and prevent related mental health issues. The present study aimed to investigate the feasibility of a randomized controlled trial for group Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), including the use of an app for CBT homework assignments, and to explore the effects of CBT for university students with ADHD. University students (n = 36) participated in the first phase of the study, involving the design of an app to present CBT homework assignments, by evaluating prototypes of the app along with the development team. In the second phase, a pre- vs. post-test design was used. Students with ADHD (n = 7) were offered manual-based CBT once a week for 6 weeks using the app or a paper manual to do the homework, as preferred. University students who took part in the development of the app noted that they would rather use the app than a printed manual. On the other hand, participants in the CBT feasibility study preferred doing homework on paper rather than using the developed app. They all found group CBT and the key elements in the CBT manual helpful. The findings suggest that providing group CBT for university students with ADHD through 6 sessions is feasible and assessing its effects in a randomized controlled trial (RCT) is feasible. Such treatment might improve coping with ADHD symptoms and related mental health issues. Further studies on the development of an app supporting CBT are needed. (1) Background: Identification of typical behavioral manifestations in patients with DEAD-Box Helicase 3 X-linked gene (DDX3X) variants plays a crucial role in accurately diagnosing and managing the syndrome. The objective of this paper was to carry out a review of medical and public databases and assess the behavioral features of the DDX3X syndrome (DDX3X), with a particular focus on psycho-pathological symptoms. (2) Methods: An extensive computerized search was conducted in various databases, including PubMed, Medline Complete, Science Direct, Scopus, and Web of Science. Specific keywords and Medical Subject Headings were used to ensure the inclusion of relevant studies. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines were applied to assess the methodological quality of the manuscripts. (3) Results: Only nine papers out of the 272 assessed met the inclusion criteria. These articles revealed various psycho-pathological manifestations in patients with the DDX3X syndrome. Intellectual disability (ID) or developmental disability (DD), speech delay, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), self-injurious behaviors (SIBs), sensory symptoms and sleep disturbance were demonstrated to be the most common psycho-pathological behavior manifestations. (4) Conclusions: Patients with the DDX3X syndrome manifest a wide spectrum of psycho-pathological symptoms. Introduction: A problem that applied researchers and practitioners often face is the fact that different institutions within research consortia use different scales to evaluate the same construct which makes comparison of the results and pooling challenging. In order to meaningfully pool and compare the scores, the scales should be harmonized. The aim of this paper is to use different test equating methods to harmonize the ADHD scores from Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL) and Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) and to see which method leads to the result. Methods: Sample consists of 1551 parent reports of children aged 10-11.5 years from Raine study on both CBCL and SDQ (common persons design). We used linear equating, kernel equating, Item Response Theory (IRT), and the following machine learning methods: regression (linear and ordinal), random forest (regression and classification) and Support Vector Machine (regression and classification). Efficacy of the methods is operationalized in terms of the root-mean-square error (RMSE) of differences between predicted and observed scores in cross-validation. Results and discussion: Results showed that with single group design, it is the best to use the methods that use item level information and that treat the outcome as interval measurement level (regression approach). Psychiatric disorders are categorized on the basis of presence and absence of diagnostic criteria using classification systems such as the international classification of diseases (ICD) and the diagnostic and statistical manual for mental disorders (DSM). The research domain criteria (RDoC) initiative provides an alternative dimensional framework for conceptualizing mental disorders. In the present paper, we studied neural and behavioral effects of central stimulant (CS) medication in adults with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and healthy controls using categorical and dimensional stratifications. AX-Continuous Performance Task (AX-CPT) was utilized for the later purpose, and participants were classified as "reactive" or "proactive" based on their baseline proactive behavioral index (PBI). Out of the 65 individuals who participated (33 healthy controls and 32 patients with ADHD), 53 were included in the final analysis that consisted of 31 healthy controls and 22 ADHD patients. For the dimensional stratification, a median split of PBI scores divided participants into "reactive" and "proactive" groups irrespective of whether they had ADHD or not. Participants performed AX-CPT in conjunction with functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) before and after CS medication. We found no significant within or between group CS effect when participants were categorically assigned as healthy controls and ADHD patients. For the dimensional stratification, however, CS selectively increased activation in frontoparietal cognitive areas and induced a shift towards proactive control mode in the reactive group, without significantly affecting the proactive group. Computer aided diagnosis methods play an important role in Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) identification. Dynamic functional connectivity (dFC) analysis has been widely used for ADHD diagnosis based on resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI), which can help capture abnormalities of brain activity. However, most existing dFC-based methods only focus on dependencies between two adjacent timestamps, ignoring global dynamic evolution patterns. Furthermore, the majority of these methods fail to adaptively learn dFCs. In this paper, we propose an adaptive spatial-temporal neural network (ASTNet) comprising three modules for ADHD identification based on rs-fMRI time series. Specifically, we first partition rs-fMRI time series into multiple segments using non-overlapping sliding windows. Then, adaptive functional connectivity generation (AFCG) is used to model spatial relationships among regions-of-interest (ROIs) with adaptive dFCs as input. Finally, we employ a temporal dependency mining (TDM) module which combines local and global branches to capture global temporal dependencies from the spatially-dependent pattern sequences. Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a common neurodevelopmental disorder that is characterized by inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. The neural mechanisms underlying ADHD remain inadequately understood, and current approaches do not well link neural networks and attention networks within brain networks. Our objective is to investigate the neural mechanisms related to attention and explore neuroimaging biological tags that can be generalized within the attention networks. In this paper, we utilized resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging data to examine the differential functional connectivity network between ADHD and typically developing individuals. We employed a graph convolutional neural network model to identify individuals with ADHD. After classification, we visualized brain regions with significant contributions to the classification results. Our results suggest that the frontal, temporal, parietal, and cerebellar regions are likely the primary areas of dysfunction in individuals with ADHD. We also explored the relationship between regions of interest and attention networks, as well as the connection between crucial nodes and the distribution of positively and negatively correlated connections. This analysis allowed us to pinpoint the most discriminative brain regions, including the right orbitofrontal gyrus, the left rectus gyrus and bilateral insula, the right inferior temporal gyrus and bilateral transverse temporal gyrus in the temporal region, and the lingual gyrus of the occipital lobe, multiple regions of the basal ganglia and the upper cerebellum. These regions are primarily involved in the attention executive control network and the attention orientation network. While both Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and schizophrenia are considered to have neurodevelopmental origins with associated impairments in executive functioning, there is a paucity of clinical guidelines pertaining specifically to this comorbidity. We sought to summarize the existing literature on ADHD in early psychosis patients, focusing on issues that would be most relevant to clinical practice. For this narrative review, we completed a search on PubMed and PsycINFO with 22 papers meeting criteria for review. Overall, it appears that a diagnosis of ADHD in childhood increases the risk of the subsequent development of a primary psychotic disorder. This risk may be modified by higher rates of substance use and could be related to shared premorbid risk factors for both conditions, such as obstetrical complications. Stimulant use has been associated with the onset of psychotic symptoms in some individuals, but it is unclear whether certain subgroups are more susceptible. Despite the fact that these two conditions co-occur relatively frequently, there is currently a lack of objective diagnostic tests for ADHD specific to populations with primary psychotic disorders, and a paucity of evidence on whether stimulants are effective for ADHD symptoms in this sub-group. Future research is warranted to investigate whether stimulant treatment confers any additional risks for symptom exacerbation in individuals with primary psychotic disorders taking antipsychotic maintenance treatment. This paper disputes the thesis that a self-reported mental condition of apparent genetic origin makes its carriers entertain entrepreneurial intentions and assesses its implications for entrepreneurship-driven economic development. The findings are that the research in question mistakes true causative agents for superficial cause-hiding vectors, thus confusing a self-reported attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) condition with the cause of entrepreneurial intentions. This is all the more so because ADHD was not properly accounted for, relying instead on the Global University Entrepreneurial Spirit Students Survey (GUESSS), self-administered without diagnostic evidence. Thus, entrepreneurship has been turned on its head, being misrepresented as a hardwired, innate human trait instead of a course of action that hinges on subjective preferences that can be influenced by the structure of rewards shaped by public policy. This misrepresentation may dwell in the so-called 'hardness bias', which underestimates the softer but crucial test of the quality of conjectures. The originality of this paper lies in the use of the harmful-dysfunction analysis, showing that the entrepreneurship research in question is based on a bogus notion of disorder. Background: The eleventh revision of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11) defines the three key diagnostic criteria for gaming disorder (GD). These are loss of control over gaming, gaming as a priority over daily activities, and impaired functioning due to gaming. While this definition has implications for the prevention and treatment of GD, there is significant heterogeneity in the symptoms and etiology of GD among individuals, which results in different treatment needs. Cognitive control, emotional regulation, and reward sensitivity are three critical dimensions in the etiology model for GD. Aspects such as gender, comorbidity, motivation for gaming, stage or severity of GD, and risk factors all contribute to the heterogeneity of etiology among individuals with the disorder. Method: On the basis of clinical symptoms and comorbidity characteristics among approximately 400 patients with gaming disorder, the present paper proposes a clinical typology of patients with GD based on the authors' clinical experience in treating individuals with GD. Results: The findings indicated three common types of patients with GD: (i) impulsive male patients with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), (ii) dysphoria patients with dysfunctional coping skills, and (iii) isolated patients with social anxiety. The paper also discusses the presentation and treatment priority for these patients. Conclusion: Personalized treatments for patients with GD should be developed to fit their individual needs. Future studies should examine the heterogeneity of GD and confirm these types, as well as obtain evidence-based information that can help in the development of personalized treatment. Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity that affects a large number of young people in the world. The current treatments for children living with ADHD combine different approaches, such as pharmacological, behavioral, cognitive, and psychological treatment. However, the computer science research community has been working on developing non-pharmacological treatments based on novel technologies for dealing with ADHD. For instance, social robots are physically embodied agents with some autonomy and social interaction capabilities. Nowadays, these social robots are used in therapy sessions as a mediator between therapists and children living with ADHD. Another novel technology for dealing with ADHD is serious video games based on a brain–computer interface (BCI). These BCI video games can offer cognitive and neurofeedback training to children living with ADHD. This paper presents a systematic review of the current state of the art of these two technologies. As a result of this review, we identified the maturation level of systems based on these technologies and how they have been evaluated. Introduction: Virtual Reality (VR) is revolutionizing healthcare research and practice by offering innovative methodologies across various clinical conditions. Advances in VR technology enable the creation of controllable, multisensory 3D environments, making it an appealing tool for capturing and quantifying behavior in realistic scenarios. This paper details the application of VR as a tool for neurocognitive evaluation, specifically in attention process assessment, an area of relevance for informing the diagnosis of childhood health conditions such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Methods: The data presented focuses on attention performance results from a large sample (n = 837) of neurotypicalmale and female children (ages 6-13) tested on a visual continuous performance task, administered within an immersive VR classroom environment. This data was collected to create a normative baseline database for use to inform comparisons with the performances of children with ADHD to support diagnostic decision-making in this area. Results: Results indicate systematic improvements on most metrics across the age span, and sex differences are noted on key variables thought to reflect differential measures of hyperactivity and inattention in children with ADHD. Results support VR technology as a safe and viable option for testing attention processes in children, under stimulus conditions that closely mimic ecologically relevant challenges found in everyday life. Exogenous melatonin is typically used for sleep regulation in the context of insomnia either in healthy children or those with neurodevelopmental disabilities. It is also used for the management of circadian rhythm sleep disorders in pediatric and adolescent patients. There are also many other possible indications that we will discuss in this paper beyond the role of melatonin for sleep regulation, including its potential use for various areas of medicine such as inflammatory conditions. Since melatonin is unregulated in the United States, distributed over the counter and perceived to be natural and safe, it has become available in many forms in the last two decades. With increasing sleep disturbances and mental health problems after the COVID-19 pandemic, melatonin has become even more popular and studies have shown a dramatic increase in use as well as resulting side effects, including melatonin overdose. As melatonin is generally viewed by physicians as a benign medication, we hope to increase awareness of melatonin's properties as well as negative side effects to optimize its use in the pediatric population. Introduction: Abnormal brain structure and function have been reported in individuals with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). This study investigated the parietal lobe structure and function alteration in individuals with ADHD. Methods: In this systematic review, we searched English papers in accordance with the PRISMA (the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses) approach. Studies were published between January 2010 and May 2021. Our search was conducted in two parts. Our first search was in July 2020, and our final search was in June 2021. A literature search identified 20 empirical experiments. Results: Functional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies generally reported low activity and poor connectivity; structural MRI studies reported less gray matter in this lobe, and an echo study reported atrophy. In addition, electroencephalographic studies reported less connectivity of the parietal lobes in ADHD. Furthermore, the transcranial direct current stimulation intervention has shown that activation of this lobe improves attention and executive functions in children with ADHD. Finally, a deep transcranial magnetic stimulation study has demonstrated that activation of this lobe improves working memory. Conclusion: Functional and structural alteration of the parietal cortex has been reported in ADHD, which has a causal relationship with cognitive impairments. However, questions arise regarding the effectiveness of different AI techniques in enhancing therapy for children with specific needs. This review explores current literature on AIBRT for children with disabilities, aiming to understand the efficacy and potential of various AI techniques in improving their therapy. This paper presents a comprehensive search of research articles published from 2019 to September 2023. 39 articles focusing on AIbased robot platforms, the employed treatment or therapy methods, assessment procedures during therapy, and the variables or parameters used to measure intervention effectiveness have been discussed in detail. These AI-based robot platforms have been utilized to engage individuals diagnosed with ASD, offering therapeutic interventions and assessments. In conclusion, the integration of AI and robotics in therapy shows promise for enhancing the development and quality of life for children with disabilities. Objective: Children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) are often referred to Equine-Assisted Services (EAS) for therapy despite lack of validated protocols in the field. This paper reports the development and validation of ASTride (ADHD Skills Therapy): a protocol of Equine-Assisted Occupational Therapy (EAOT) intervention for children aged 6-12 with ADHD. The intervention addresses deficits in cognitive-emotional functions and participation. Method: Phase one of the intervention development includes theoretical framework and core content based on an in-depth review of existing literature. Subsequently, the intervention protocol was revised by a panel of experts. Phase two includes a pilot study, during which five children diagnosed with ADHD (mean age= 10.40 year, SD 2.966) participated in a 12-week EAOT intervention according to the suggested protocol, with pre- and post-assessments conducted. Results: Statistically significant improvements were found in executive functions, as reflected in the Behavioral Regulation Index (BRI) total score. Additionally, hope perception and everyday performance improved following the intervention. With a focus on its implications for cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), this review study seeks to investigate the possible advantages of martial arts training on attention and executive function. Common cognitive impairments seen in a variety of psychiatric diseases, such as depression and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, include difficulties in attention and executive function. Training in martial arts, which is known for its demanding physical and mental requirements, has drawn interest as a potential intervention for improving cognitive function. An overview of the most recent research on how martial arts training affects focus and executive function is given in this publication. The results demonstrate the potential of martial arts as a strategy for enhancing executive function and attention-related cognitive functions. The article also explores the implications of adding martial arts instruction to CBT therapies, arguing that doing so might be a beneficial supplementary strategy to improve treatment outcomes. Polyphenols are natural compounds also contained in daily consumed foods that show their efficacy in different clinical fields. Both pre-clinical and clinical studies demonstrated that polyphenols may manage neuroinflammation and oxidative stress processes tightly connected to neurodegenerative diseases and mental disorders. Thus, a neuroinflammatory state may influence the neurotransmitters pathways, such as the noradrenergic, glutamatergic, serotoninergic, and, in particular, dopaminergic ones, whose impairment is strongly associated with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Therefore, the aim of the present systematic review is to provide an overview of the clinical outcomes' changes following ADHD treatment with polyphenols alone and in combination with the traditional drugs. This review was conducted according to PRISMA guidelines and recorded on PROSPERO with the number CRD42023438491; PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science were used as search-engines to lead our research until June 2023. The inclusion criteria were articles written in English, including clinical, placebo-controlled, and case-control trials. We excluded reviews, metanalyses, background articles, and papers published in other languages. To avoid any bias, Rayyan software (COPYRIGHT © 2022 RAYYAN) was used to organize the work and manage the literature review. After screening, 10 studies were included, with a total of 556 patients that met the established inclusion criteria. The data obtained from these studies showed that polyphenols rebalanced oxidative stress pathways through different mechanisms, are effective for the treatment of ADHD both alone and in combination with traditional drugs, and are able to reduce symptoms as well as the side effects related to the use of conventional therapies. Background: Thyroid hormones (THs) are essential for brain development. Numerous studies have identified significant links between thyroid dysfunction and cognitive function. However, research on the significance and necessity of thyroid function tests in diagnosis of neurological disorders is limited and subject to controversy. Methods: Our study employed a combination of meta-analysis and case-control design. For the meta-analysis, we conducted a systematic search of online databases for studies that compared thyroid function tests in children with neurological disorders to controls. In our case-control study, we recruited a total of 11836 children, comprising 7035 cases and 4801 healthy controls. Wilcoxon Rank Sum Test was used to determine characteristics of thyroid function between the cases and healthy controls. In order to exclude the false discovery rate (FDR), the Benjamini-Hochberg (BH) procedure is applied. Results: A total of 12 relevant literature sources were included in the meta-analysis. Compared with controls, free thyroxine (FT4) levels were significantly decreased in neurological disorders in meta-analysis (MD = -0.29, 95% CI: -0.50 to -0.09), whereas thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) levels showed no significant difference (MD = -0.07, 95% CI: -0.36 to 0.21). In our case-control study, levels of free thyroxine (FT4), total triiodothyronine (TT3), total thyroxine (TT4), and anti-thyroglobulin antibodies (TG-Ab) were notably reduced among individuals with neurological disorders, compared with healthy controls (P <0.001, P< 0.001, P =0.036, P =0.006). However, thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) levels did not show any statistically significant differences among the cases and controls. Conclusions: Our research demonstrates that, in comparison to controls, children with neurological disorders exhibited a significant decrease in FT4 levels, while TSH levels remained unchanged. This finding provides a reference for potential serum marker of neurological disorders in children. Background and objective: A growing body of research evidence suggests that many patients with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) have difficulties with emotion regulation. Non-invasive brain stimulation (NIBS), which mainly includes transcranial electrical stimulation (tES) and repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS), has been considered a potential new direction in the treatment of emotion dysregulation in ADHD patients. The key components of tES are transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) and transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS). However, there is no systematic evaluation exploring the effects of non-invasive brain stimulation on emotion regulation in ADHD patients. Therefore, this systematic review aimed to summarize the effects of NIBS on emotion regulation in ADHD patients. Methods: This systematic review was conducted according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. We searched PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library electronic databases up to 1 July 2024. We also hand-searched the reference lists of retrieved articles and reviews. Assessing risk of bias using the Cochrane Assessment Tool. Results: Through database search, we obtained a total of 1134 studies, of which 5 met the inclusion criteria. Statistically significant improvements in emotion regulation in children with ADHD were observed in 1 study after treatment with tDCS. In the remaining 4 studies (2 with tDCS and 2 with rTMS), there were no statistically significant changes in emotion regulation in ADHD patients after treatment with either tDCS or rTMS. Conclusions: The data from our preliminary study do not allow us to draw definitive conclusions that non-invasive brain stimulation improves emotion regulation in ADHD patients. This is because there is a paucity of literature on the effects of tES or rTMS on emotion regulation in ADHD patients and a limited number of randomized controlled trials. More high-quality multicenter randomized controlled trials exploring the efficacy of non-invasive brain stimulation on emotion regulation in ADHD patients are needed in the future to provide strong evidence for definitive conclusions before it can be considered as a potential treatment option. Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a common neurodevelopmental condition mainly characterized by both a scarce aptitude for social interactions or communication and engagement in repetitive behaviors. These primary symptoms can manifest with variable severity and are often paired with a heterogeneous plethora of secondary complications, among which include anxiety, ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder), cognitive impairment, sleep disorders, sensory alterations, and gastrointestinal issues. So far, no treatment for the core symptoms of ASD has yielded satisfactory results in a clinical setting. Consequently, medical and psychological support for ASD patients has focused on improving quality of life and treating secondary complications. Despite no single cause being identified for the onset and development of ASD, many genetic mutations and risk factors, such as maternal age, fetal exposure to certain drugs, or infections have been linked to the disorder. In preclinical contexts, these correlations have acted as a valuable basis for the development of various murine models that have successfully mimicked ASD-like symptoms and complications. This review aims to summarize the findings of the extensive literature regarding the pharmacological and nutraceutical interventions that have been tested in the main animal models for ASD, and their effects on core symptoms and the anatomical, physiological, or molecular markers of the disorder. Objective: Tic disorders (TD) often present with associated neuropsychiatric comorbidities. This study aims to examine the clinical manifestations of TD in pediatric patients and explore the spectrum and features of neuropsychiatric comorbidities among Chinese children diagnosed with TD. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on pediatric TD cases newly diagnosed at our institution, using the Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview for Children and Adolescents 5.0 to screen for comorbidities. Furthermore, a statistical analysis of clinical features was undertaken. Results: The study enrolled 182 patients, comprising 140 males and 42 females. The diagnoses were distributed as follows: 65 cases of provisional TD, 29 cases of chronic TD, and 88 cases of Tourette syndrome. 94 (51.65%) patients presented with at least a single neuropsychiatric comorbid, while 40 (21.98%) patients exhibited two or more such comorbidities. TD is most frequently comorbid with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (33.52%, 61/182), oppositional defiant disorder (11.00%, 20/182) and current/previous manic/hypomanic episode (7.69%, 14/182). Children with comorbidities, compared to those without, experienced delayed diagnosis (P = 0.039), were more prone to developing vocal tics (simple vocal tics P = 0.030, complex vocal tics P < 0.001), lacked sibling companionship (P = 0.030), and exhibited more severe tics (P = 0.008). The prevalence of comorbidities was notably higher in children from single-parent households (93.3%) compared to those in two-parent families (P = 0.006). Individuals with multiple comorbidities had delayed diagnosis (P = 0.013), and notably experienced more triggering psychological factors such as pressure, anxiety, and anger. Sex, parents' educational backgrounds and severity of tics significantly related to specific comorbidity occurrence. Conclusion: We identified several factors associated with comorbidities in children with TD, which aiding doctors in recognizing the comorbidities that require attention. (1) Background: Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a common mental health condition in children that can significantly impact their quality of life. In this study, we compared the effectiveness of virtual reality (VR) technology with traditional rehabilitation training through meta-analysis, aiming to provide a basis for the clinical optimization of rehabilitation strategies. (2) Methods: The study was registered in PROSPERO, and a search was conducted using the subject terms "virtual reality" and "attention deficit hyperactivity disorder" across six databases. The search yielded 10 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that met the inclusion criteria. The data were analyzed using a random-effects model in statistical software. (3) Results: The study found that VR exercise game technology significantly outperformed the control group in terms of both the primary outcome (executive function and cognitive function) and secondary outcomes (attention, memory, and task switching) in children under the age of 18 with ADHD (children under 18 years of age are defined as adolescents and children). Sensitivity analyses confirmed the robustness of the five outcome measures. Bias tests revealed no publication bias for the primary outcome, but some bias for the secondary outcomes, which did not affect the overall results. The authors of the present study wanted to know whether the previously reported psychiatric comorbidities of internet gaming disorder (IGD) based on DSM-5 criteria were also more prevalent among gaming disorder (GD) or hazardous gaming (HG) based on ICD-11 criteria. Therefore, the present case-control study evaluated the psychiatric comorbidities and associative factors of GD and HG based on ICD-11 criteria. A sample of 60 individuals with GD, 45 with HG, and 120 controls were assessed with an ICD-11 criteria-based diagnostic interview along with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), depressive disorder, and social anxiety disorder (SAD). Participants also completed Conners' Continuous Performance Test (CCPT), Dickman's Impulsivity Inventory, the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire, and the Behavior Inhibition System and Behavior Approach System Scales. GD was associated with ADHD, depressive disorder, and GAD. ADHD was the most associative comorbidity of HG. Depressive disorder was associated with GD relative to HG. Moreover, individuals with lower reappraisal, higher aversion sensitivity, and impulsivity were more likely to be diagnosed with GD. Those with higher fun-seeking were more likely to be diagnosed with HG. In the present study, ADHD was the psychiatric comorbidity most significantly associated with GD, followed by depressive disorder and GAD, as previously reported for IGD. ADHD was also associated with HG. Depressive disorder was more associated with GD compared to HG. Intervention for HG and GD should be tailored by the consideration of the clients' psychiatric comorbidity as well as their reappraisal skills, impulsivity, aversion sensitivity, and fun-seeking. Mobile-based digital interventions for children with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) have been developed to alleviate their symptoms. When developing mobile game-based digital interventions for ADHD treatment, it is important to research how the emotional responses of the target audience members—based on flashy visuals or difficulty adjustments to motivate the user—affect their content manipulation ability. This study performed a correlation analysis to examine the impact of perceived difficulty and enjoyment (interest) on the performance of children diagnosed with ADHD while engaging in game-based digital content. Statistically significant differences were observed in the following variables based on the enjoyment level: correct rate (p = 0.0040), decision time (p = 0.0302), difficulty (p < 0.0001), and touch time (p = 0.0249). Considering difficulty level, statistically significant differences were observed for correct rate (p = 0.0011), decision time (p = 0.0158), and difficulty (p < 0.0001). Correlation analysis between the variables correct rate, decision time, difficulty, touch, time limit, and touch time based on enjoyment and difficulty did not reveal significant correlations. Therefore, for children with ADHD, digital interventions should focus on the therapeutic goals rather than on flashy visuals or difficulty adjustments aimed at enhancing interest. Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a prevalent neurodevelopmental disorder among children and adolescents. Behavioral detection and analysis play a crucial role in ADHD diagnosis and assessment by objectively quantifying hyperactivity and impulsivity symptoms. Existing video-based action recognition algorithms focus on object or interpersonal interactions, they may overlook ADHD-specific behaviors. Current keypoints-based algorithms, although effective in attenuating environmental interference, struggle to accurately model the sudden and irregular movements characteristic of ADHD children. This work proposes a novel keypoints-based system, the Multi-cue Feature Fusion Network (MF-Net), for recognizing actions and behaviors of children with ADHD during the Test of Variables of Attention (TOVA). The system aims to assess ADHD symptoms as described in the DSM-V by extracting features from human body and facial keypoints. For human body keypoints, we introduce the Multi-scale Features and Frame-Attention Adaptive Graph Convolutional Network (MSF-AGCN) to extract irregular and impulsive motion features. For facial keypoints, we transform data into images and employ MobileVitv2 for transfer learning to capture facial and head movement features. Ultimately, a feature fusion module is designed to fuse the features from both branches, yielding the final action category prediction. The system, evaluated on 3801 video samples of ADHD children, achieves 90.6% top-1 accuracy and 97.6% top-2 accuracy across six action categories. Background: Amphetamines increase dopamine levels in mid-brain regions which, in turn, impact top-down executive function. Repeated exposure is linked to substance use disorders. Nonetheless, amphetamines are used to manage attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and eating-related disorders. In ADHD, amphetamines upregulate a system characterised by low dopaminergic tone, assisting to improve executive function. A similar process might be at play with eating disorders; however, the effect of amphetamine treatment on executive function in this case has not been thoroughly considered. Methods: Participants (N = 52, Mage = 47.06, SD = 12.29) with a body mass index of 25–60 were randomised to treatment (6-week dexamphetamine titration) or control (placebo) groups. They completed an executive function measure—Barkley Deficits in Executive Functioning Scale (BDEFS-SF)—and response inhibition task—Stop-Signal Task (SST)—at Baseline, throughout titration, at Maintenance, and at Follow-up. Mixed effects models examined whether BDEFS-SF score or the SST variable, stop-signal reaction time (SSRT), changed across sessions as a function of treatment. Results: There was no effect of group (p = 0.440), but an effect of session (p = 0.024) on BDEFS-SF, with scores at Time 2 (p = 0.011, 95% CI [0.47, 3.49]) and Maintenance (p = 0.022, 95% CI [−4.89, −0.39]), respectively, higher and lower than other timepoints. There was no group by session interaction (p = 0.659). R2 (conditional) = 0.74; ICC = 0.73. There was an effect of group (p = 0.039) and session (p < 0.001) on SSRT, but no interaction (p = 0.707). Baseline SSRT was significantly longer than the mean of all subsequent timepoints (p < 0.001, 95% CI [16.29, 33.84]). R2 (conditional) = 0.47; ICC = 0.39. Conclusions: There was no discernible impact of amphetamine treatment for obesity on executive function. Our results suggest some variation related to sample size and/or practice effects. Multiple lines of evidence indicate that altered dopamine signaling may be involved in neuropsychiatric disorders and common behavioral traits. Here we critically review evidence collected during the past 40-plus years supporting the role of dopamine dysfunction in attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). We recapitulate the basic components of dopaminergic signaling in the central nervous system, focusing on core enzymes, transporters and receptors involved in monoaminergic functions, particularly in striatal and cortical regions. We summarize key human brain imaging and genetic studies reporting associations between dopaminergic neurotransmission and behavioral traits, with an emphasis on ADHD. We also consider ADHD in the context of animal models and single gene, metabolic, and neurological disorders with established dysfunction of the dopaminergic system. Examining the evidence in this way leads us to conclude that there is evidence for the involvement of dopamine but limited evidence for a hypo-dopaminergic state per se as a key component of ADHD. We propose a path forward to increase our understanding of dopamine signaling in human behavioral traits and disorders that should particularly focus on its role in clinical subgroups, during brain development and how it interacts with other neurotransmitter systems. Background: Claudin-5 is a vital constituent of tight junctions, which are critical elements of the blood-brain barrier. In people with neuropsychiatric disorders, peripheral inflammation is often found, although it is less common in healthy populations. The objective of this study was to examine the relationship between Claudin-5, peripheral immune cells, and the severity of symptoms in children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Methods: The study included a cohort of 33 children diagnosed with ADHD and 29 control subjects, all aged between 5 and 12 years. The intensity of ADHD symptoms was evaluated using Conner's questionnaire, which the parents completed. Each kid had serum level measurements of Claudin-5 and a complete blood count in order to establish a correlation with symptoms of ADHD. Results: Serum Claudin-5 levels are lower in the ADHD group compared to the control group; median (IQR) = 30.94 (4-137) and 44.12 (4–223.3) respectively (p = 0.69). The levels of neutrophils and neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio are significantly higher in ADHD than in controls (p = 0.011 and 0.015, respectively). Lymphocytes have a significant positive correlation with ADHD symptoms severity, namely, total Conner's scale and inattention (p = 0.021 and 0.004 respectively), while NLR has a significant negative correlation with total Conner's score and impulsivity (p = 0.046, p = 0.038), also a negative correlation yet not significant between serum Claudin-5 level and total Conner's score, hyperactivity, impulsivity, and inattention. Neutrophils were found to have a significant positive linear regression with Claudin-5 (p = 0.023). Conclusion: These results revealed that BBB integrity is affected in ADHD children, as claudin-5 levels were found to be lower in children with ADHD, lymphocytes were found to be associated with increased ADHD symptoms severity, and NLR was associated with decreased symptoms severity, which may be via the positive effects of increased neutrophils on Claudin-5 levels. Introduction: Impulsivity is one of the overlapping symptoms common to borderline personality disorder (BPD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), but the neurobiological basis of these disorders remains uncertain. This systematic review aims to identify abnormalities in the gray and white matter associated with impulsivity in BPD and ADHD. Methods: We conducted a systematic search of the PubMed, Embase, and SCOPUS databases, adhering to PRISMA guidelines. Studies that investigated gray and white matter alterations in BPD or ADHD populations and their relationship with impulsivity were included. We reviewed information from 23 studies involving 992 participants, which included findings from structural MRI and DTI. Results: The review identified various nonhomogeneous changes associated with impulsivity in BPD and ADHD. BPD was mainly associated with abnormalities in the prefrontal cortex (PFC) and limbic areas, which correlated negatively with impulsivity. In contrast, impulsivity associated with ADHD was associated with structural changes in the caudate nucleus and frontal–striatal pathways. Despite the overlapping symptoms of impulsivity, the neurobiological mechanisms appeared to differ between the two disorders. Conclusions: These findings emphasize the distinct neurostructural correlates of impulsivity in BPD and ADHD. While both disorders show impulsivity as one of their main symptoms, the fundamental brain structures associated with this trait are different. BPD is primarily associated with abnormalities in the prefrontal cortex and limbic system, whereas the alterations seen in ADHD tend to focus on the caudate nucleus and frontostriatal pathways. Background: Psychotic-like experiences (PLEs) are low-intensity subclinical phenomena, often transient in nature. The etiology of PLEs primarily involves neurodevelopmental changes, trauma exposure, and maladaptive coping styles. Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is considered to be one of the factors that increase the risk of future psychosis. Furthermore, ADHD symptoms predict a heightened incidence of traumatic experiences, ruminative thoughts, and negative affect (NA). This present study examines whether rumination and NA mediate the relationship between ADHD symptoms and PLEs and whether trauma experiences moderate these pathways. Methods: A total of 188 participants (72% female) aged 18–35 completed questionnaires assessing ADHD symptoms and traumatic experiences and took part in a seven-day experience sampling method (ESM) procedure, completing ratings of PLEs experiences, the intensity of ruminations, and NA. Results: Correlation analysis showed significant relationships between all tested variables. Serial mediation analysis revealed a significant indirect effect of rumination and NA in the link between ADHD symptoms and PLEs. There was no significant impact of trauma experience in this relationship. Conclusions: Our study underscores the important role of rumination and NA in the co-development of ADHD symptoms and PLEs. Future research should consider investigating the intra-individual dynamics of ADHD and trauma using ecologically valid research methods in the context of PLEs to better understand these complex relationships. Background: Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a common neurodevelopmental disorder. Public knowledge of ADHD plays a crucial role in shaping attitudes, reducing stigma, and fostering a supportive environment for individuals with this disease. This study aimed to assess the level of knowledge and stigma of the general Lebanese population regarding ADHD and identify potential factors associated with these variables. Methods: An online cross-sectional study was conducted between July and August 2023 among adults from all Lebanese regions. The questionnaire was self-administered, available in Arabic and English, and included a sociodemographic section and the validated tools Knowledge of Attention Deficit Disorders Scale (KADDS) and the ADHD Stigma Questionnaire (ASQ). Results: A total of 647 participants were included. Most participants (n = 483 (74.7%)) lacked prior experience with individuals who have ADHD, and only 12.8% reported having good information about the condition. The participants had a mean knowledge score of 20.49 ±3.23 and a mean ADHD stigma score of 75.71 ±20.58. A significantly higher knowledge score was associated with a university level of education (B = 0.14, p < 0.001), older age (B = 0.14, p = 0.001), using the internet (B = 0.13, p = 0.001) and lecture (B = 0.09, p = 0.015) as a source of ADHD information, having a high monthly income (B = 0.13, p = 0.001), being female (B = 0.08, p = 0.030) and having a health coverage (B = 0.08, p = 0.025). Conversely, a lower knowledge was significantly associated with obtaining ADHD information from television (B = -0.13, p = 0.001) and family (B = -0.08, p = 0.043). A significantly lower score was associated with ever being diagnosed with ADHD (B = -0.18, p < 0.001), having an intermediate monthly income (B = -0.10, p = 0.005), and consuming alcohol (B = -0.11, p = 0.004), while a higher score was significantly associated with a higher KADDS total score (B = 0.12, p = 0.002) and being employed (B = 0.07, p = 0.044). Conclusion: The present study addressed a gap in the existing literature by examining ADHD knowledge and stigma in the Lebanese population. Surprisingly, a positive correlation between higher ADHD knowledge and increased stigma challenges common assumptions, suggesting a complex relationship between knowledge, misconceptions, and societal attitudes. Background: To date, there are no official diagnostic criteria for the frequently reported phenomenon of exercise addiction. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to investigate how mental disorders, specifically depression and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), are related to exercise addiction (EA). Methods: A total of 173 participants aged between 18 and 70 years, who reported exercising more than 10 h a week and continued to exercise despite injury or illness, answered questionnaires including the Exercise Dependence Scale, the Beck Depression Inventory, and the Homburger ADHD scale for adults. Multiple linear regression analyses were performed adjusting for relevant confounders (age, gender) and stepwise regression was used to identify which of the two mental disorders is the more influential predictor of EA. Results: Pearson correlation analysis showed that depressive symptoms [r (171) = 0.422, p < 0.00] and ADHD symptoms [r (171) = 0.308, p < 0.001] were positively correlated with EA symptoms. The relation between depressive symptoms and EA remained after adjusting for confounders in the regression model (B = 20.531; t(170) = 5.950; 95% CI [13.719, 27.343]; p < 0.001). Similarly, the positive link between ADHD symptoms and EA persisted after controlling for confounders (B = 15.507; t(170) = 3.771; 95% CI [7.389, 23.625]; p < 0.001). Additionally, a stepwise regression model identified that depressive symptoms are a stronger predictor for EA than ADHD symptoms. Conclusion: Depressive symptoms seem to be a stronger predictor for EA compared to ADHD symptoms in frequent exercisers. Although individuals with ADHD May exercise extensively, they might be less at risk for EA than individuals with depression. These results contribute to the complex characterization of the psychiatric profile of individuals with exercise addiction, and underline the need for further research elucidating the interplay between mental disorders and EA. Introduction: Children with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) participated in a randomized clinical trial comparing animal-assisted intervention (AAI) to psychosocial treatment as usual (TAU). This brief report describes effects of AAI on acute HPA axis reactivity and regulation. Saliva was collected before, during, and after psychosocial intervention sessions with and without therapy dogs and later assayed for cortisol (ug/dL). Methodology: Thirty-nine participants (n = 39) with ADHD, aged 7-9 years (79% male) provided saliva at 3 points during 90-minute sessions; (i) upon arrival, (ii) +20 minutes, and (iii) 15 minutes prior to departure, on 3 occasions across an 8-week intervention (weeks 1, 4, and 8). Cortisol slopes calculated within each session were compared across the intervention weeks to determine within subject and between group effect sizes. Spearman's correlations between baseline individual neurodevelopmental symptoms and in-session acute cortisol responses were also evaluated. Results: No significant between group differences were observed in cortisol responsiveness at week-1. By week-4, in-session changes in cortisol were evident, with significantly greater decreases in the AAI group (Cohen's d = -.40). This pattern was also observed at week-8, with an even stronger effect-size (d = -0.60). Concurrent symptoms of autism were associated with the in-session acute cortisol response. Specifically, higher parent-reported symptom scores were associated with steeper decreases in cortisol across the session at week 1 (r = -0.42, p <.01) and week-8 (r = -0.34 p =.05). At week-8 this association was stronger in the AAI group (r = -0.53) versus TAU (r = -0.25), with Cohen's q = 0.413). Discussion: AAI may influence acute HPA reactivity and regulation for children with ADHD. Concurrent symptoms of ADHD and autism may be related to individual differences in the nature of the effect. Although pharmacotherapy is a viable treatment option, managing medication can be challenging. Prior research has not explored medication use among patients with DD in Japan. Thus, this study aimed to identify the medication challenges faced by these patients. Methods: A questionnaire survey was administered to 200 outpatients to collect data on the number of prescribed medications, the timing of administration, the frequency of missed doses, and the use of medication notebooks. This was a prospective observational study without intervention and a random sampling. Results: The survey revealed that 57.0% of the participants were non-adherent to their medication regimen. Specifically, medication non-adherence rates were 44.7% among individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), 86.9% for those with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and 30.4% for patients with comorbid ASD and ADHD. Despite 48.3% of the participants taking measures to prevent forgetting their medication, 65.3% of them still failed to take their medication as prescribed. The possession rate of medication record books was 96.0%. Conclusion: The study indicates that the frequency of medication non-adherence among patients with DD in Japan mirrors that in other countries. Patients who reported taking preventative measures still experienced high rates of non-adherence, suggesting limited effectiveness of these strategies. It is essential to develop more effective measures to improve adherence, enhance disease awareness, and increase understanding of medication instructions. Background: The use of medication for Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) increased globally throughout the early 2000s. This study examine trends in prevalences and incidences of medication use in Norway from 2006 to 2022. Methods: Data from the Norwegian Prescription Database were used to present one-year-prevalence and incidence rates of ADHD medication (ATC-group N06BA and C02AC02) for the overall population (ages 6–64) and within sex and age subgroups of children (ages 6–17) and adults (ages 18–64). Incident use was defined as the dispensing of medication, with no recorded use in the previous two calendar years. Results: The overall prevalence of ADHD medication use in 6- to 64-year-olds increased from 5.2 to 19.4 per 1000 in the period, most pronounced from 2020 and onwards. While males experienced a nearly threefold increase in use (from 7.3 to 20.6 per 1000), the use among females increased almost sixfold during the study period (from 3.0 to 18.1 per 1000). Consequently, the male-to-female prevalence-ratio decreased from 2.4 to 1. Children exhibited a higher prevalence of use compared to adults throughout the period, although the largest relative increase was observed in adults, particularly in female adults. In children the male-to-female ratio decreased from 3.2 to 2.0, primarily due to an increasing use in 13–17-year-old females. Among adults, prevalences were similar across most age groups, with the highest rates observed among those aged 18–24, where female use exceeded male use by the end of the period. The male-to-female prevalence-ratio in adults decreased from 1.6 to 0.9 during the period. Parallel to prevalent use, overall incident use increased from 1.4 to 5.0 per 1000 during the period, with the most pronounced increase occurring from 2020 and onwards. From this point, incident use among females aged 13–17, 18–24, and 25–34, exceeded that of males. The male-to-female incidence-ratio decreased from 1.8 to 0.9. The overall incidence to prevalence ratio remained similar throughout the period, being 0.27 in 2006 and 0.25 in 2022. Conclusion: A sustained increase in the prevalence of ADHD medication use was observed, with the most pronounced rise occurring among females and adults from 2020 and onwards. By 2022, the overall gender disparity in ADHD medication use had diminished, which should be considered in the context of a steep increase in incident use among adolescent and young adult females starting from 2020. Epilepsy and psychiatric illness have been long studied and today are better accepted as co-occurring than as discrete illnesses that are independent even if associated. Common pathophysiology may not be easily explained, but clearly exists given the significant overrepresentation of psychiatric illness among individuals with epilepsy. Conditions like autism spectrum disorder, anxiety, depression, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder are prevalent in pediatric epilepsy much more than expected, even in the context of chronic neurologic disease. The interplay between pediatric epilepsy and neuropsychiatric symptoms represents a complex clinical circumstance that is not well subtended by the chasm-like division of labor between psychiatrists and neurologists. The unfortunate result is that children and families often experience care that is fractured and at worst, counterproductive for their quality of life. A neuropsychiatric paradigm is essential to address epilepsy and its intrinsic psychiatric symptoms. Practical strategies will be discussed to address this challenge. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
