The attention economy is often used to describe the market conditions of influencers on social media platforms. It suggests new economic logics and marketing strategies governed through accumulating attention. Critically examining this concept, this paper asks: how do influencers understand and manage attention on Instagram? Through 41 in-depth interviews with fitness influencers, this paper found that attention is not always desirable, nor the basis of new forms of economic logics. Further, as participants moved from working part-time to full-time in the online fitness industry, attention-mitigating strategies often replaced attention-seeking ones. Digital economy is an important direction of the new round of technological revolution and a key driving force for realizing the "double control of carbon emissions". This paper utilizes the panel data of 30 provincial-level administrative regions in China from 2011 to 2021 to measure the development level of the digital economy, total carbon emissions, and carbon emission intensity and explores the impact of the digital economy on the dual control of carbon emissions and the mechanism of its effect by applying the mediating and moderating effect models. The results show that the digital economy can play a significant inhibitory effect on total carbon emissions and carbon emissions intensity, and this conclusion is still robust after a series of tests. From the government level, there exists a transmission path of "digital economy → environmental regulation stringency → dual control of carbon emissions"; from the enterprise and research organization level, there also exists a transmission path of "digital economy → R&D intensity → dual control of carbon emissions". From the perspective of regional imbalance, there are large regional differences in the impact of the digital economy on the dual control of carbon emissions, and there are also large differences in the impact of the various subdivided indicators of the digital economy on the dual control of carbon emissions. In addition, this paper also finds that the positive effect of the digital economy on the dual control of carbon emissions is more obvious in regions with a smaller proportion of SOEs. These findings add new evidence to the study of "the impact of the digital economy on the dual control of carbon emissions" and provide new ideas for accelerating the realization of green and sustainable development. The digital economy is gradually emerging as a new driving force and engine for high-quality economic development. In the context of reaching carbon peak and carbon neutrality, can the digital economy empower the development of urban green technology innovation? Based on the panel data of 274 cities in China from 2011 to 2019, this paper measures the development level of digital economy at the city level and employs the two-way fixed effect model to empirically analyze the impact of digital economy on urban green technology innovation. The results indicate that: (1) Digital economy development exert a significant positive impact on urban green technology innovation. This conclusion still holds after a series of robustness tests. (2) Digital economy enhances urban green technology innovation by optimizing human capital structure, enhancing the level of financial and credit investment, and strengthening public environmental concern. (3) Heterogeneity analyses show that the digital economy has a greater positive effect on green technology innovation in the eastern region and non-resource cities. The higher the level of intellectual property protection and the better the development of the factor market, and the lower the intensity of environmental regulation, the greater the positive effect of the digital economy on urban green technology innovation. These findings are not only of great practical significance for accelerating the development of green technology innovation in China, but also serve as a reference for other developing countries to utilize the digital economy to empower the development of green technology innovation. As ESG (environmental, social, and corporate governance) is consistent with the spirit of sustainable development, it is useful to elevate ESG performance to realize the sustainable development of enterprise and society. Using the data of Chinese A-share listed firms in the period of 2011 to 2019, this paper takes the National Big Data Comprehensive Pilot Zone policy as a quasi-natural experiment and uses the difference-in-differences method to assess the effect of digital economy development on ESG performance. This paper reveals the following: (1) the digital economy can facilitate ESG performance; (2) digitalization of the economy helps enterprises to propel digital transformation, which in turn lifts ESG performance; (3) digital economy development has a deeper impact on private enterprises, especially for those in China's capital cities; and (4) digital economy development moderates the inhibiting effect of ESG performance on corporate financial constraints. This paper uses inter-provincial panel data from 2011 to 2017, a linear regression model, and a threshold model to conduct empirical analyses of the impact of the digital economy on China’s overall economic growth and the three main sectors of industry. The paper then investigates the impact and effects the digital economy has had on the economic growth of the three main sectors of industry in China’s eastern, central, and western regions. Finally, the paper investigates the most significant differences among the various regions and the threshold effects of urbanization levels on the relationship between the digital economy and economic growth. The findings indicate a significantly positive correlation between the digital economy and regional economic growth. Moreover, geographical factors notably influence this correlation. The digital economy exerts a positive effect on all sectors of industry. It may not substantially impact industrial development in regions with highly developed infrastructure. Regarding the other regions, the digital economy exhibits varying degrees of impact due to the differences in the specific indicators. The conclusion drawn by the threshold model is that the magnitude of the threshold effect correlates with geographic factors. No threshold effect was observed in the eastern region, while the threshold effect occurred in the central region when the urbanization levels for the provinces were below 0.6645. Similarly, the threshold effect was noted in the western region when the urbanization level was below 0.3931. Considering all of this, the study also offers policy recommendations that will help balance the regional development of digital economies, accelerate the digital transformation of traditional industries, enhance digital infrastructure construction, refine the formulation and implementation of data policy, and establish relevant incentive mechanisms. As the most active field in China's economic development, the digital economy is crucial to the high-quality development of enterprises. Taking Chinese-listed agricultural enterprises as research samples, this paper discusses the effect of the digital economy on promoting the high-quality development of agricultural enterprises and the mechanism behind it from the perspective of total factor productivity of enterprises. The study found that the digital economy significantly promoted the improvement of total factor productivity of agricultural enterprises and enabled the high-quality development of agricultural enterprises, and this conclusion remained valid after controlling for endogeneity and conducting robustness tests. In terms of action mechanisms, the digital economy is conducive to promoting green innovation and promoting the high-quality development of agricultural enterprises; However, entrepreneurial activity has a masking effect. Further analysis shows that the digital economy plays a more significant role in promoting non-resource-intensive agricultural enterprises located in northern China. At the same time, the higher the industrial structure and financial development level of the region, the more positive impact the digital economy can play. The rapid progress in science and technology has ushered in a new era of organized and efficient development within the digital economy. The digital economy is an important driving force for promoting national economic growth and achieving high-quality economic transformation, and is a key force in achieving the sustainable development goals (SDGs). This paper measures the digital economy development level of 30 provinces in China from 2013 to 2021 utilizing the entropy of weighting approach, and in order to further reveal its intrinsic laws and differences, it uses three-dimensional kernel density analysis, the Dagum Gini coefficient, spatial autocorrelation analysis, and cold hot spot analysis to explore the spatial and temporal evolution characteristics of the digital economy and its regional imbalance. The empirical results show that ① China's digital economy has been steadily increasing, spatially showing the characteristics of gradual decrease from east to west and from coast to inland, with obvious spatial agglomeration characteristics and an increasing trend. ② There are obvious regional imbalances in the digital economy, with the southeast coastal region leading significantly. ③ The overall regional differences are large but reduced, mainly from intra-regional differences, the and inter-regional contribution is low. The research in this paper provides data support for revealing the spatial and temporal evolution characteristics of digital economic development and provides new path support for the balanced development of China's regional digital economy. This paper measures the comprehensive level of the digital economy and integrated urban–rural development across Chinese provinces from 2013 to 2022. Using a two-way fixed effects model, it explores the nonlinear relationship, regional heterogeneity, and underlying causes of how the digital economy empowers integrated urban–rural development. The study finds that: (1) The digital economy promotes integrated urban–rural development, with a quadratic polynomial regression model and threshold regressive model revealing an inverted U-shaped relationship. The turning point has not yet been reached, and the promoting relationship shows a diminishing marginal trend. (2) In terms of sub-dimensions, the strengths of the promoting effect are ranked as follows: digital infrastructure construction, industrial digitization, and digital industrialization. (3) Regionally, the digital economy's promoting effect on integrated urban–rural development is strongest in Central China, followed by Eastern China, and weakest in Western China. With the continuous advancement of the new generation of information technology revolution, digital economy is gradually becoming an important driving force for energy transition while restructuring the new form of the economy. This paper selects panel data of 30 provinces in China from 2011 to 2021, empirically verifies the special impacts of digital economy on green- oriented transition of energy by using the spatial Durbin model, and further constructs a multi-intermediary model to verify its transition pathways. The main findings are as follows: First, the overall level of green-oriented transition of energy in China's eastern coastal areas is relatively high, and the western regions have been more capable of catching up in recent years. Second, digital economy has played a significant role in promoting green-oriented transition of energy, and there is a positive spatial spillover effect. Third, digital economy could indirectly promote the green-oriented transition of energy by promoting the upgrading of industrial structure, improving the level of technological innovation and strengthening environmental regulations. Purpose: The digital economy has become a key force supporting the high-quality development of tourism. This paper discusses the coupling coordination relationship and spatiotemporal evolution path of digital economy and tourism in China's provinces. Design/methodology/approach: This paper uses the entropy method to measure the development level of digital economy and tourism, and establishes coupling coordination model and spatial autocorrelation model to study the interaction between the two industries. Findings: Results show that the development levels of the two industries are rising, which spatially show a progressively decreasing pattern of east-middle-northeast-west. The coupling coordination degrees of the two industries have increased steadily, but the overall level is still near maladjusted. Spatially, the positive correlation is increasing, but the incongruity of spatial agglomeration is still significant. The coupling coordination evolution path in the provinces shows differentiated characteristics. The migration path is mainly concentrated in Zones I and II. The eastern region has an obvious trend of extending to Zone III, where the tourism industry was the most affected by the pandemic. Practical implications: The study helps clarify the industrial coupling and coordination relationship in various regions and formulate regional tourism digital transformation strategies to promote the high-quality development of China's tourism industry. Energy efficiency is crucial for achieving a balance between economic growth and sustainable development. As carbon-neutral targets continue to gain momentum, green investments are becoming increasingly important. Therefore, it is critical to investigate the relationship between green investment and energy efficiency. This paper aims to fill a gap in the macroeconomic literature by using a generalized method of moments (GMM) technique based on panel data from 30 provinces in China from 2006 to 2019. The econometric results indicate that green investment is positively associated with energy efficiency. Additionally, green investment indirectly promotes energy efficiency by fostering technology innovation and research and development (R&D) intensity. The results also suggest that more advanced digital development is linked to improvements in energy efficiency. Furthermore, regions characterized by higher levels of digital economy exhibit a more pronounced contribution of green investment to energy efficiency. This paper examines the digital economy's impact on rural household consumption upgrading. Existing studies remain mainly at the level of rural consumption scale and rarely address the consumption structure. The specific impact of the development of the digital economy on rural consumption upgrading and its mechanisms of action deserves in-depth study and consideration. We analyzed the related content using the fixed-effect model, the instrumental variable method (IV), the mediation effect model, and three-year panel data from the China Family Panel Studies (CFPS). This study found that, at the scale level, the digital economy contributes to expanding rural household consumption. At the structural level, the digital economy significantly increases the share of enjoyment-oriented household consumption but has no significant effect on development-oriented consumption. Income is an important transmission mechanism for the digital economy to improve rural household consumption. Online retailers worldwide invest beyond their core business of retailing to offer their own delivery services (ODS) to deliver products to customers' homes through their own logistics network. How does this shift to ODS affect customers' behaviors and sales performance? When and why do retailers venture beyond their core competence to offer ODS? To explore these questions, the authors analyze 250,055 customer transactions over 10 years across 416 cities and 49 product categories from JD, a major online retailer in China. Using difference-in-differences models, causal mediation analysis, and the synthetic control method, they find that ODS increases customers' monthly spending by 7.8% and grows city-level sales by 11.9%. This study is the first to quantify the sales impact of ODS and shed light on when and why it works. The findings reveal that ODS has greater value for markets with lower trust levels, infrequent customers, high-risk product categories, and consumers who prefer the focal retailer (versus that of third-party sellers). Causal mediation analysis further reveals that ODS not only improves delivery quality but also builds customer trust, which together increase customers' monthly spending, purchase frequency, and the number of items ordered. In the post-epidemic era, China's digital economy is booming. Especially in the new "dual circulation" development pattern, it has gradually become a new driving force and major pillar for promoting high-quality economic development. This paper mainly researches the indirect ways in which the digital economy empowers economic development from the perspective of China's domestic economic cycle. On this basis, it builds a framework for the mechanism of action. Through the test of the multiple mediation model, it is found that the contribution of the parallel mediation effect of production factors marketization and digital financial inclusion is more than 50%, while the effect of consumption structure upgrades is only about 4%. It is worth noting that the chain mediation effect of production factors marketization and digital financial inclusion acting through industrial structure upgrades on economic development is highly significant at the 1% level. Meanwhile, these three factors interact with each other two by two and constitute a chain-mediated path which is all significant at the 5% level. Therefore, in the context of the digital economy, accelerating the development of new industries to optimize the industrial structure, smoothing the flow of production factors, and improving the digital financial system to tap the consumer market will become the focus of promoting high-quality economic development in China in the future. As a new economic paradigm, the digital economy is critical to economic growth and environmental protection. This paper empirically explores the impact of the digital economy on regional energy consumption intensity in the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei region from 2010 to 2018. It is found that the digital economy has a significant inhibitory effect on regional energy consumption intensity. This effect remains valid even after passing the endogeneity and robustness tests. The paper confirms that technological innovation is the primary means by which the digital economy affects energy consumption intensity. The analysis of spatial spillover effects shows that the digital economy promotes the improvement of energy consumption intensity in surrounding areas through technology spillover effects. A heterogeneity analysis demonstrates that the technology spillover effect has a significant inhibitory effect on the energy consumption intensity of the surrounding areas for economically developed cities. The digital economy plays an important role in reducing the global warming process. This paper explores the spatiotemporal heterogeneity impacts of the digital economy on provincial carbon emissions and its underlying mechanisms. Initially, this paper examines the inhibitory impact of the digital economy on carbon emissions, alongside the mediating role of economic agglomeration, at a theoretical level. Subsequently, it empirically explores the quantitative associations among the digital economy, economic agglomeration, and carbon emissions by utilizing Chinese provincial panel data spanning from 2000 to 2021. This investigation employed static and dynamic spatial Durbin models as well as mediation models to analyze the interrelationships. The results firstly revealed that the digital economy notably diminishes carbon emissions, with economic agglomeration playing a significant mediating role. This conclusion remained consistent even after substituting the explanatory variables and weight matrix, modifying the sample period, and conducting other robustness tests. Secondly, the impact of the digital economy on carbon emissions exhibited spatial spillovers. Compared with the impact on the local area, the impact on neighboring provinces was found to be weaker. Thirdly, carbon emissions showed a significant "snowball" effect in the time dimension. This paper emphasizes the important role of digital technology in curbing carbon emissions, and it provides some policy insights for studying the digital economy, economic agglomeration, and carbon emissions. In response to the global call to promote green production and achieve sustainable development, the proper use of the digital economy plays an important role. The deepening development of the digital economy has led to changes in the input of manufacturing factors and the structure of product demand, which in turn has led to corresponding changes in the level of green and sustainable development. This study employs a factor input-output nonexpectation SBM-DEM model to assess the green manufacturing efficiency of 273 prefecture-level and higher cities in China. The relationship between the digital economy and green manufacturing efficiency is analyzed based on this model. The rise of the digital economy is found to contribute to the increase in green manufacturing efficiency, albeit with a non-linear “inverted U-shaped” trend. At the same time, the current level of digital economy development is slowly improving but has not yet reached the inflection point of the “inverted Ushaped” curve, and digital economy development still has a positive impact on green manufacturing efficiency at the current level of development. Furthermore, government intervention is critical in moderating the inverted U-shaped link between the digital economy and green manufacturing efficiency, which has a major weakening effect. The quality and stability of the ecological environment are inevitable requirements of sustainable development, and previous studies have confirmed that digital economy and technological innovation have a positive enabling effect on the ecological environment. Against the background, clarify the current coordinated development relationship and level of digital economy, technological innovation, and ecological environment (DTE), and put forward policy recommendations to promote the coordinated development. This paper utilizes China's provincial panel data from 2013 to 2020 to construct a measurement index system for the levels of development in the digital economy, technological innovation, and ecological environment. The coupling coordination model is applied to evaluate the coordination relationship and level of the DTE system. Additionally, a principal component factor analysis is conducted to examine the driving factors of collaborative development level. Results show that (1) the coupling coordination relationship continues to improve, especially in cities like Guangzhou, Beijing, and Zhejiang. In 2020, most of the DTE systems' coupling coordination in China's 30 provinces were in the basic coordination stage. (2) Besides Beijing, Shanghai, Jiangsu, and other economically developed cities that lag behind in ecological environment, the rest lag in technological innovation. (3) The economic development level, technological innovation ability, and environmental forcing mechanism are the main driving forces for the development of the coupling and coordination degree of the DTE system in Chinese provinces and cities. With the arrival of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, digital changes have occurred in various areas, such as production, circulation, and exchange, triggering efficiency and quality changes in the entire economic system and bringing new opportunities for China's energy conservation and carbon reduction policies. Based on the panel data of 30 provinces in China from 2006 to 2020, this paper uses ArcGIS software and the Moran index method to analyze the spatial distribution characteristics and agglomeration effects of the digital economy and carbon emissions and uses the spatial Durbin model to analyze the impact mechanism of the digital economy on carbon emissions. The results show that the development of the digital economy can significantly suppress provincial carbon emissions, and the carbon reduction effect of the digital economy has a significant positive spatial spillover effect. The digital economy can reduce carbon emissions by promoting technological innovation and optimizing the industrial structure. However, the carbon emission reduction effect of energy structure optimization is uncertain due to energy rebound effects. The digital economy has a suppressive effect on carbon emissions in both the eastern and western regions, while the development of the digital economy in the central region increases carbon emissions due to factors such as the "resource curse", income effects and energy rebound effects. Digital economy development plays an inhibitory role in the carbon emissions of regions, with the greater the digital economy level, the more significant the inhibitory effect. The digital economy is the fastest-growing sector in the world today, and will also be the key development direction of China in the future. The level of digital financial capability (DFC) determines whether households can fully embrace the inclusivity of digital finance and seize the business opportunities presented by the digital economy. Hence, we utilized panel data from the China Household Finance Survey (CHFS) and built a probit model with two-way fixed effects. The results revealed that DFC has a positive impact on household entrepreneurship through both supply- and demand-side mechanisms. The results also revealed that DFC has not only catalyzed the evolution of digital business models but has also enhanced the digital business performance of enterprises. The analysis of heterogeneity confirms that DFC can promote entrepreneurship in rural settings and in the retail and restaurant sectors. This research has important theoretical contributions and policy suggestions for governments to help them pay attention to the inclusive role of DFC in developing the digital economy. Tourism competitiveness has always been a crucial aspect of tourism research. With the emergence of the digital economy, it is important to understand how this new form of economic activity impacts tourism competitiveness. This paper utilizes the configurational theory of systems thinking to examine the complex causal impact of the digital economy on tourism competitiveness. The paper finds that none of the digital economy variables are necessary for tourism competitiveness. There are two basic paths for the digital economy to drive high tourist destination competitiveness: dual-driven model of digital infrastructure and finance occurring in less developed regions and digital regulation-led dual-driven model of digital innovation and finance occurring in developed regions. The digital economy has played a vital role in changing economic and social development patterns and has had a multifaceted impact on carbon neutrality. This paper strives to contribute to the existing research by analyzing the relationship between the digital economy and electricity consumption intensity and providing a comprehensive understanding of the mechanisms that influence the digital economy and energy consumption, particularly focusing on electricity consumption intensity through the construction of a theoretical model. To fulfill this objective, this study introduces the development level of the digital economy into the production function of representative power enterprise, constructs a partial theoretical equilibrium analysis framework, calculates provincial digital economy development indices for Chinese provinces from 2013–2021 using the CRITIC method, and examines the impact of the digital economy on power consumption intensity. The results show that the digital economy can reduce the intensity of power consumption. A unit standard deviation increase in the digital economy development level reduces power consumption intensity by 0.1008 standard deviations. The study also conducts a mechanism analysis with economic growth as the mediating variable, which shows that the digital economy promotes economic growth and reduces electricity consumption intensity. The moderating effect of the digital economy on power consumption is further examined using local government fiscal pressure as the moderating variable. The results show that the impact of the digital economy on reducing power consumption intensity decreases with the increase of government fiscal pressure. This study not only contributes to practical applications but also enhances our comprehension of the interplay between the digital economy and power consumption. On the one hand, the development of the digital economy can reduce power consumption, thus reducing carbon emissions and achieving low-carbon growth. Purpose: Coordinating low-carbonization and digitalization is a practical implementation pathway to achieve high-quality economic development. Regions are under great emission reduction pressure to achieve low-carbon development. However, why and how regional emission reduction pressure influences enterprise digital transformation is lacking in the literature. This study empirically tests the impact of emission reduction pressure on enterprise digital transformation and its mechanism. Design/methodology/approach: This article takes the data of non-financial listed companies from 2011 to 2020 as a sample. The digital transformation index is measured by entropy value method. The bidirectional fixed effect model was used to test the hypothesis. Findings: The research results show that emission reduction pressure forces enterprise digital transformation. The mechanism lies in that emission reduction pressure improves digital transformation by promoting enterprise innovation, and digital economy moderates the nexus between emission reduction pressure and digital transformation. Furthermore, the effect of emission reduction pressure on digital transformation is more significant for non-state-owned, mature and high-tech enterprises. Originality/value: This paper discusses the mediating role of enterprise innovation between carbon emission reduction pressure and enterprise digital transformation, as well as the moderating role of digital economy. The research expands the body of knowledge about dual carbon targets, digitization and technological innovation. The author's findings help update the impact of regional digital economy development on enterprise digital transformation. This study examines the effects of digitization on economic growth in Turkmenistan, emphasizing the legal framework and real-world applications. The definition of "digitalization", an analysis of its impact on the nation's economy, and a focus on its unique features are presented first. It then explores several critical issues regarding Turkmenistan's digital economy's progress, such as assessing its current economic situation, significant trends, innovation, and challenges. It examines the financial results of implementing the Concept for the Development of the Digital Economy for 2019–2025 and the impacts of these policies. The report's conclusion offers some recommendations and a breakdown of the challenges Turkmenistan faces as its digital economy expands, and how technology developments, digitization, and regulatory agendas affect Turkmenistan's and the Hainan Free Trade Port's economic growth in Turkmenistan. It examines the possible benefits of using digital technologies to promote trade facilitation and regional economic expansion. The rapid development of the digital economy poses both opportunities and challenges for the process of new urbanization. This study utilizes inter-provincial panel data covering the period from 2012 to 2021 in the Yellow River Basin. It employs fixed-effect, mediation effect, and threshold effect models to examine how the digital economy affects the high-quality development of new urbanization in the area. Key findings of the study indicate that the digital economy has a positive impact on the high-quality development of new urbanization in the Yellow River Basin through its facilitation of industrial structure upgrading. The impact exhibits a non-linear "marginal effect," transitioning from slower to faster growth rates. Introduction: In the digital era, new digital infrastructures (NDIs) play a pivotal role in fostering economic growth and technological innovation. However, their ecological impact, particularly on carbon dioxide emissions, remains underexplored. Addressing this gap holds significant practical and theoretical value. Methods: Utilizing panel data from 283 Chinese cities spanning 2009 to 2020, this study employs a two-way fixed-effects model to empirically assess the influence of NDIs on urban carbon emissions (UCE). Additionally, a mediation effect model is used to examine the mechanisms of this influence. Results: The findings reveal that: (1) NDIs significantly mitigate UCE levels, a conclusion supported by robustness tests involving instrumental variables and the exogenous policy shocks of smart city pilot programs; (2) NDIs primarily impact UCE through two channels: the digital economy and green technology innovation; and (3) heterogeneity analysis indicates that NDIs predominantly curb carbon emissions in cities with lower administrative levels, while positively contributing to UCE intensity in higher administrative level cities. Notably, NDIs substantially reduce UCE in non-old industrial cities, with a negligible effect in old industrial cities. Discussion: This research expands the understanding of the economicenvironmental implications of NDIs, offering valuable insights for policymakers regarding NDIs' environmental impacts. Most publications justify that digitalization is a source of economic growth, to a greater extent in the countries with higher levels of economic development. However, some papers fail to find empirical evidence supporting this claim, attributing it to digitalization being in its initial stages or to the presence of the digitalization paradox. Economic literature exhibits a degree of ambiguity in its conclusions regarding the role of the digital economy in growth. Researchers employ different measures of digitalization, country and year samples, control variables in regression equation, as well as different regression methods, which can provoke ambiguous effects on the parameters of digital variables. The purpose of the article is to identify the role of digitalization in economic growth by justifying an economic growth model with the digitalization index and providing detailed discussions on our sample of countries over recent years, along with options for regression estimators. The article utilizes statistical data from the World Bank, European Commission, and Heritage Foundation. Methods such as system analysis, statistical analysis, and the regression estimator of panel data with fixed effects are implemented to identify the role of digitalization in economic growth. We have designed an economic growth model incorporating the Digital Economy and Society Index (DESI) of EU member states for the years 2017-2022, utilizing available data. The results reveal a positive and significant causal effect of digitization on gross output growth. Specifically, a 1% increase in the digitalization index results in GDP growth of almost 0.2%. Moreover, we observe the important roles of capital, labor, trade, human capital, and intellectual property rights in driving growth, consistent with the theory of endogenous growth. Proving the importance of digitalization for economic growth can be an argument for policies aimed at promoting digitalization. We suggest further research on the role of digitalization at a more disaggregated level of industries. However, our study does not demonstrate a statistically significant effect of research activity and institutional quality on gross output. The digital economy plays an important role in promoting the high quality and sustainable development of the marine fishery economy. Based on the panel data of the digital economy and marine fishery development from 2011 to 2022, we firstly adopted the entropy method to comprehensively evaluate the economy quality level of the digital economy and marine fishing. Secondly, we constructed a two-way fixed effect model to empirically analyze the impact of digital economy development on the marine fishery economy quality and the mediating role of marine green science and technology innovation, and further explored the regional heterogeneity of the digital economy on the marine fishery economy quality. Several findings emerge. The digital economy and the marine fishery economy quality level was relatively low and showed a fluctuating increase. The development of the digital economy can significantly improve the economy quality of marine fishing, and the conclusion was still valid after considering a series of robustness tests. The digital economy can drive the development quality of the marine fishery economy through marine green technology innovation. This paper proposes fostering the advancement of digital technology in the marine fishery sector, to effectively harness the innovation-driven potential of the digital economy, so as to facilitate the harmonious development of both the marine and digital economies. High-quality economic development is an inevitable requirement for promoting sustainable development. Stacks of research papers have suggested that the quality of China's economic development will make an important contribution to promoting global sustainable development. The collaborative agglomeration between manufacturing and producer services is determined by multiple factors, including industrial characteristics and industrial associations. This is conducive to the efficient evolution of the industrial structure and to further achieving high-quality economic development. Based on the provincial data from 2010 to 2021 in China, this research evaluated the impact of co-agglomeration between manufacturing and producer services on high-quality economic development by using the double-fixed-effect spatial Durbin model. The benchmark regression results showed that industrial co-agglomeration impacted high-quality economic development in an inverted U-shaped. This result had a significant positive spatial spillover and was robust. In the spatial heterogeneity tests, the co-agglomeration of industries had different effects on high-quality development in regions. The strongest spillover effect of positive externalities was in the eastern region, which played an active role as a "growth pole". The "siphon effect" happened in the central region. The spillover effect had a "U" shape in the western region, and the co-agglomeration inhibited current high-quality development. In the mechanism analysis, the industrial co-agglomeration enhanced high-quality development by stimulating green innovation, and the digital economy had a positive moderating effect. The study presented in this article provides empirical evidence and offers policy recommendations for formulating industrial policies and improving the quality of economic development. The digital economy, the tourism industry, and ecological protection are closely related, which holds paramount significance for regional sustainable development. Based on panel data from 2011 to 2021 in the Yellow River Basin, the study scrutinizes the spatial and temporal variances and driving factors of the three-system coupling coordination degree. The results indicate that: (1) The development level of the three systems is significantly different. The coupling coordination degree shifts from imminent imbalance to marginal coordination, but there is a noticeable expansion in spatial disparities. (2) The coupling coordination degree of non-resource cities significantly surpasses that of resource cities, and regenerative cities outperform growing, mature, and declining cities. The overall pattern of the provincial capital cities "center-periphery", decreased the coordination characteristics. The spatial correlation of coupling coordination degree presents two aggregation patterns of "high-high" and "low-low", and the overall correlation gradually weakens. (3) The driving factors reveal that the economic driving force is the largest, followed by the internal driving force, and the government regulatory force and scientific and technological driving force are relatively weak. Consequently, this paper proposes to strengthen the integration and penetration function of the digital economy and have it play the linkage role between regions. The digital economy is reshaping the global economic landscape, with advancements in artificial intelligence, robotics, and virtual reality revolutionizing industries and transforming how people work and live. While the digital economy has promise in terms of improving human capital development, for example, through increased access to education and healthcare services, it also presents challenges, such as job displacement and income inequality. This study aims to evaluate the impact of the digital economy on human development indicators in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, seeking to understand how it influences education, health, and income levels. This paper provides valuable insights for policymakers seeking to enhance the Kingdom's position in the global human development race by examining the relationship between the digital economy and human development using econometric models. This paper analyzes data from the World Bank and the United Nations Development Program to measure the impact of the digital economy on sustainable human development indicators. The findings show that while the digital economy has negligible or negative influence on other human development indicators, it has a limited beneficial impact on education in the long run. In addition, attaining sustainable human development—which is consistent with Vision 2030—requires expanding the economy beyond the oil sector and fostering scientific and technological progress. Digital economy has emerged as one of the primary driving forces for economic globalization. However, assessing digital economy development in a robust and scientific manner remains a great challenge. This paper proposes an evaluation system with measurement errors correction to accurately research the regional differences in and the spatial-temporal evolution characteristics of digital economy development in the Yangtze River Economic Belt (YEB), combining the entropy method, the Dagum–Gini coefficient, an σ convergence model and grey correlation analysis. The results present that the digital economy development index in the YEB rose from 2012 to 2021, with the greatest weight being social livelihood benefits. Meanwhile, there were noticeable regional differences in digital economy development in the YEB; in particular, the middle reaches showed obvious convergence. The grey correlation degree between the influence factors and the digital economy development ranged from 0.5286 to 0.9144, demonstrating a robust positive correlation. The theoretical framework of this paper integrates economic development models with advanced statistical analysis techniques, providing a robust analytical perspective for examining the complexities of digital economy evolution. Under the new development model, the digital economy has become a new engine to promote the green development of the economy and realize the goal of "double carbon". Based on the panel data of 30 provinces in China from 2010 to 2020, this paper empirically investigates the impact of the development of the digital economy on energy and carbon emissions using a series of econometric models such as baseline regression, a mechanism test, and the spatial Durbin model, etc. Common prosperity plays an intermediary role between digital economy development and carbon emissions; digital economic development optimizes resource allocation, effectively solves the problem of uneven resource distribution, and reduces energy and carbon emissions while achieving common prosperity. In addition, green innovation, industrial structure, urbanization level, R&D intensity, and the degree of marketization also have different degrees of influence on energy and carbon emissions. Therefore, the government should accelerate the construction of new digital infrastructure and implement the digital economy development strategy according to local conditions, so as to promote the digital economy to produce a more significant carbon emission reduction effect. Purpose: This conceptual paper aims to develop the vision of a novel policy tool called the digital industrial cluster (DIC) thought for a future context shaped by digital economies and Industry 4.0. The DIC departs from the industrial cluster's precepts and take them into the digital agglomeration phenomenon. Design/methodology/approach: This research uses a discursive and theoretical approach. To create a clear picture related to the research topic, this paper reviews the literature on how industrial clusters deal with digital transformation. The review takes a particular interest in industrial clusters, information and communication technologies, Industry 4.0 and policy tools for digital agglomeration. Findings: The research develops the vision of the DIC as a new policy tool, building its foundations on both industrial clusters and digital economies; furthermore, the DIC was compared with other policy tools based on digital agglomeration to understand the similarities, differences and advantages of the former. Finally, this paper discussed where the DIC could find its way toward implementation and what externalities could be expected from doing so. Practical implications: This research could be useful for policymakers and cluster organizations looking to deploy policy tools that take advantage of industrial clusters and digital transformation. Besides, the theoretical foundations presented could lead researchers to empirical identification of early incarnations of the DIC. The object of research is the use of Digital Twin (DT) technology in the manufacturing sector and its impact on sustainability. The scientific problem addressed is the identification and quantification of the potential advantages and challenges associated with the adoption of DTs at operational, tactical, and strategic levels, particularly in the context of sustainable development. The paper investigates how DTs can redefine the measurement of sustainable development and diversify implementation within manufacturing infrastructure. The study concludes that DTs are a sophisticated technology that enables manufacturers to create precise virtual replicas of physical products or processes. This helps in optimizing resource utilization, reducing energy consumption, and minimizing waste, thereby promoting sustainability. Main DT clusters and common uses highlighted by the authors demonstrate huge impact on energy efficiency, waste management, sustainable design, logistics emissions reduction, water conservation, and stakeholder engagement. It is proved that DTs simulate and analyze complex systems, enabling the evaluation and improvement of sustainability levels. The paper presents promising practical examples of DT’s use, such as optimizing warehouse management in Ukraine, automating robots for increased efficiency, and aiding in the post-war reconstruction of cities with a focus on environmental friendliness and accessible infrastructure. The research specifically focuses on the top five tech giants and their use of DTs to drive sustainability. Introduction: With the rapid development of digital technology and its deep integration with environmental and ecological fields, the digital economy has become an effective way to guide the transition of cities to an eco-friendly model. However, empirical studies on the nonlinear spatial effects between digital economy and ecological welfare performance are still insufficient. Methods: Based on the panel data of 270 prefecture-level cities in China from 2011 to 2020, this paper empirically examines the impact of the digital economy on the ecological welfare performance of cities and its mechanism of action using spatial econometric modeling. Results: The promotion effect of digital economy development on the ecological welfare performance of cities is characterized by the "J" shape of increasing marginal effect, and the spatial spillover effect on the ecological welfare performance of neighboring cities is the inverted "U" shape of inhibiting first and then promoting later. The mechanism test shows that the development of digital economy can enhance the ecological welfare performance of cities through the marginal incremental promotion of green technological innovation in local and neighboring cities and has a positive spatial spillover effect. The development of digital economy can have a direct U shape effect on local ecological welfare performance by influencing factor allocation efficiency and energy utilization efficiency. It also has an inverted U-shaped spatial spillover effect. Environmental regulation has an inverted U-shaped moderating effect on the local eco-welfare performance affected by the digital economy. As the level of rural revitalization increases, it produces a U-shaped moderating effect of inhibiting. Heterogeneity analysis reveals that digital economy development has a more significant facilitating effect and a positive spatial spillover effect on the ecological welfare performance of cities in central China. Discussion: This paper will provide a reference for the synergistic optimization of digital economy development and ecological welfare performance among regions. Based on the theory of social capital and strategic revolution, this paper selects 3006 family enterprises in China from 2015 to 2020, establishes a fixed effect panel model, and discusses the impact of the digital economy on the green innovation efficiency of family enterprises from the perspective of rationalization and upgrading of industrial structure. It is found that the relationship between digital economy and green innovation efficiency of family enterprises is inverted U-shaped. The digital economy affects the green innovation efficiency of family enterprises by promoting the rationalization and upgrading of industrial structure. The inverted U-shaped relationship between the two is more significant in the eastern region, the first and the second echelon provinces. Therefore, this paper improves green innovation efficiency of family enterprises from three aspects: digital economy, rationalization and upgrading of industrial structure, so as to finally realize the evergreen and sustainable development of family enterprises. As we stand on the cusp of what Schwab claims to be the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR), the world of work is undergoing a rapid and profound transformation. Zimbabwe strives to ready its labour market for the seismic changes already underway. In order to thrive in the future of work, the World Economic Forum advises that a country must educate its populace in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields. Unfortunately, Zimbabwean women remain underrepresented in STEM professions, with a mere 28.79 percent of women holding STEM degrees, compared to 71.21 percent of men. These statistics underscore the urgent need to educate more women in STEM fields. This paper addresses the bigger question: "Is Zimbabwe ready for the future of work"? To this end, this paper offers a nuanced analysis of the 4IR and its implications for Zimbabwe's future of work. Drawing on primary and secondary literature, we map out women's barriers and propose strategies to overcome them. This paper uses an integrative literature review, making a valuable novel contribution to the burgeoning literature on the intersection of the 4IR, gender equality and the future of work in Zimbabwe. The paper showcases that Zimbabwe is unprepared for the changing nature of work and needs to increase women's participation in STEM subjects. In this paper, 22 indexes are selected at three levels, including the informatization development level, the Internet development level, and the digital transaction development level, based on China's provincial panel data from 2011 to 2020, so as to build a digital economy development index system. Moreover, 28 basic indexes are selected from three aspects, including energy construction, energy production and energy consumption, so as to develop an energy economy development evaluation index system. The development index of China's digital economy and energy economy are measured by using the entropy weight method. The effect of the digital economy on the energy economy and its mechanism are tested by the static panel, the dynamic panel, and the mediating effect and regulating effect models. The results indicate that the digital economy has pronouncedly promoted the development of China's energy economy, and the development of the digital economy can have an effect on the rationalization of the industrial structure and then affect the development of the energy economy, and there is an intermediary effect. Moreover, the upgrading of the industrial structure is conducive to regulating the digital economy and facilitates the development of the energy economy. The development of the energy economy can be better promoted by focusing on the coordinated regional layout of the digital economy development, building a reliable energy commodity trading platform, and expediting the optimization and upgrading of the industrial structure. With the proposal of "Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutrality" goals, China is facing a more serious carbon emissions reduction situation, and how the booming digital economy effectively helps China's carbon emissions reduction is one of the most urgent things that should be solved. To study the impact of the digital economy on carbon emission intensity, this paper is based on the panel data of 30 provinces in China (excluding Tibet, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan) from 2011 to 2021, and applies the double-fixed effect model and the threshold effect model to study the impact of the digital economy on carbon emission intensity and the mechanism of its action, as well as to analyze the mechanism of the digital economy's action on carbon emission intensity from the perspective of technological innovation. The results of the study show that: i) The digital economy can reduce the intensity of regional carbon emissions; ii) The carbon emission reduction effect of the digital economy is non-linear, and its carbon emission reduction effect gradually increases with the level of development of the digital economy; iii) In addition to the direct impact of the digital economy on carbon emission intensity, it also has an indirect impact on carbon emissions through technological innovation; iv) There is regional heterogeneity in the carbon emission reduction effect of the digital economy, and the carbon emission reduction effect is more significant in the central and western parts of the country and regions with a high level of human capital development. Based on the conclusions obtained, this paper suggests: i) The rational integration of the digital economy and regional development should be strengthened; ii) Strong provinces in the digital economy should be encouraged to help weaker provinces, to narrow the "digital divide" between provinces; iii) Differentiated development strategies should be formulated in accordance with local conditions, to give full play to the optimal effect of the digital economy in carbon emission reduction. Improving the structure of energy consumption (ECS) through green finance and the digital economy is one of the main paths to achieving the goal of carbon neutrality. This paper explores the impact of green finance and the digital economy on the ECS of 30 regions in China from 2007 to 2022 using the Generalized method of moments(GMM) model, further analyzes its heterogeneity, and then provides a reference for the scientific development of relevant decisions. The conclusions are as follows: (1) The change in the ECS is closely related to the degree of optimization of the ECS in the previous year, and this is a process of dynamic adjustment. The level of digital economy development can improve the ECS of the country as a whole and in the eastern and central regions, while the western regions have not yet played a significant role due to the underdevelopment of the digital economy. Green finance can inhibit fossil fuel energy consumption in all regions, and it promotes cleaner, more efficient, and low-carbon energy consumption, thereby improving the ECS. However, the impact effect is the largest in the east and smaller in the west. (2) The urbanization levels of the country as a whole and that of the central and western regions show a positive correlation with the results of energy consumption. However, in the eastern region, it shows an inhibitory effect on fossil fuel energy consumption, which can optimize the ECS. The industrial structures in all regions have positive impact coefficients; the development of industry is not conducive to the optimization of the ECS. Trade openness can improve the ECS only in the eastern region; technological progress in all regions can significantly improve the ECS. Based on the background of carbon neutrality, this paper reveals that green finance and the digital economy promote cleaner, more efficient, and lower carbon energy consumption and reduce the level of energy consumption. The study applies a systematic literature review with the aim of providing insight into theoretical approaches to digital entrepreneurship and branding, which represent new and actual concepts that significantly affect the business success of contemporary organisations. When defining the research subject, it was considered that the digital economy is largely conditioned by the emergence of entrepreneurial actions that have produced innovations in the domain of digital technology. Therefore, the study of digital entrepreneurship and branding is of interest for academicians, business practitioners, as well as public and political subjects that support this phenomenon, bearing in mind its positive effects on encouraging employment, social and economic development. The research findings have provided a scientific insight into the conceptualization of digital entrepreneurship and branding, indicating their interrelations with innovations, digital technologies, and creative abilities. The theoretical part of the research was additionally supplemented with a survey that provided an analysis of employees’ views on the application of digital entrepreneurship in the Republic of Serbia. The paper has also demonstrated that doing business in a digital environment and digital innovations give the organisations an access to new resources, and above all to quality and up to date information, services, and online communities, which condition their expansion in the markets. However, this study has also emphasised the lack of scientific research related to research instruments, frameworks and models of digital entrepreneurship that could have practical application.
