A study conducted by researchers at Anhui University of Science and Technology in China explores the characteristics and factors that influence the evolution of open fractures in coal. The study used a triaxial static load test on fractured coal to examine the effects of internal and external conditions, such as mineral particle distribution and confining pressure. The results showed that confining pressure affects the location and generation of fractures, as well as the three-dimensional dynamic fractal dimension and failure mode of the coal body. The study also identified three types of fracture propagation behavior based on stress composition and mineral particle distribution. The article presents a study that examines the different kinds of bridge deck overlay systems under initial static deflection and cyclic loading for accelerated bridge construction (ABC). It examines the bond strength of several overlay systems and bridge decks, as well as the amount of chloride penetration of the methods. The study finds out that some overlay systems can be used to protect precast bridge decks, however, they should be applied per manufacturer's specifications.
