In research, outcomes are often categorized as primary and secondary. The primary outcome is the most important one; it determines whether the study is considered 'successful' or not. Secondary outcomes are chosen because they provide supporting evidence for the results of the primary outcome or additional information about the subject being studied. For reasons that are explained in this paper, secondary outcomes should be cautiously interpreted. There are varying practices regarding publishing secondary outcomes. Some authors publish these separately, while others include them in the main publication. In some contexts, the former can lead to concerns about the quality and relevance of the data being published. In this article, we discuss primary and secondary outcomes, the importance and interpretation of secondary outcomes, and considerations for publishing multiple outcomes in separate papers. We also discuss the special case of secondary analyses and post hoc analyses and provide guidance on good publishing practices. Throughout the article, we use relevant examples to make these concepts easier to understand. While the article is primarily aimed at early career researchers, it offers insights that may be helpful to researchers, reviewers, and editors across all levels of expertise. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

As an effective tool to advance language competence, writing papers collaboratively has the characteristic of improving author language skills, providing authors with opportunities to practice language skills in meaningful contexts. As authors collaborate to yield a paper, they get exposure to grammar genres, structures, and expressions. Concurrently, during the process, language is applied to communicate ideas effectively. This paper aims to investigate whether collaboration is really a beneficial aspect for authors. This qualitative investigation was embedded in case study design to uncover truths experienced in real-life situations. To collect data, semi-structured interviews were administered to five university scholars chosen from a population of authors reported to have successfully written publishable papers. It emerged as major findings that individual comprehension can be improved when authors collaborate on paper writing, and, as authors receive written feedback from each other, language competence advances. Although previous publications on writing collaboratively exist, research is silent on improved language competence acquired through this practice. It is concluded that individual comprehension can be improved by collaborative paper writing as the process provides opportunities for authors to justify and discuss their ideas. As they work collaboratively, authors deepen their understanding of the material and enhance their language skills. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In biomedical papers resulting from the cooperation of a biomedical team and a statistical team, the leader of the statistical team is traditionally placed second-to-last in the authors' list. In many papers, the leader of the statistical team designs, initiates, and supervises the project, so they play a key role in the production of a scientific publication. This key role is not reflected in systems of evaluation of scientific publications in which the second-to-last author receives equal or less credit than the other co-authors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The purpose of this essay is to review one of Frazad Qaemi’s papers: “Why Does Ferīdōn mean the "Third"? Decoding the Mystery of Ferīdōn’s Name According to Function Analysis of Myth: A Study in Historical Linguistics (Diachronic Etymology)”. The paper shows the writer was not specialist in the subject matter he discussed. Due to his unfamiliarity with the concepts, initial knowledge and the resources of this area, made his analysis and conclusions were flawed. Nevertheless, the way he refers to other works is too unaccustomed, they mostly show that the writer, Qaemi, trying to refer his incorrect thoughts and analysis to reliable sources, and with this technique, he was trying to prove the audience that his incorrect analysis and ideas are correct. Aside from that, Qaemi, used the analysis and accomplishment of other writers, but unfortunately, he did not refer to them in his paper, implying that they were his own, which is clearly plagiarism. The paper contains many errors, making it a good example for methodology courses as it shows students what they should avoid in a journal paper. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article reproduces a slightly edited and expanded version of author s 'personal manifesto 'presented as a paper at the International Conference "Challenges of the current global uncertainty for transit states" (Astana, Kazakhstan, May 15, 2024), and previously (in 2022) proposed as the author's discussion ideas for consideration by the experts at the "KyivRysing" forum. In contrast to a strategy of conceptually and economically dependent development, the article offers some initial ideas related to working out of a strategy of relatively "autonomous" development of the country. In the current situation of almost total scarcity of resources in Ukraine, such a strategy would be a very difficult, but challenging and worthy endeavour. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Teaching technical writing to engineering researchers particularly post graduate students is a demanding and complex task. Often the challenge faced by the language instructor is in having inadequate understanding on students' expected writing output which is engineering research publication. While the language instructors may find the language use aspect manageable, it is the understanding on expected writing output for engineering discipline that is a challenge; therefore, supporting language module developers to understand those expected outputs is essential and needed for the advancement in language teaching. In view on the need for the description of the targeted output which is engineering publication, this study focuses on supporting the understanding of engineering research publication specifically on drones. This study is aimed to describe the perimeter of research publication on drones written by prolific engineering writers. This paper uses bibliometric analysis method which is based on identifying the core research and authors, as well as the works that cited them. This study examines 275 research publications indexed in SCOPUS database and also investigates 1947 research publications that cited the 275 publications as reference source. The findings show that the publications are mostly articles, conference papers and reviews deriving mostly from the US, China and the UK whereas the citing documents are mostly from China, the UK and the US. This paper presents the description on the perimeter for both groups. Such description provides a ready narrative to language instructors as well as ready narratives and guidance on writing/content dimension for young scholars embarking on writing scholarly articles on drone research. This study contributes to the diversity literature by probing whether diversity papers are cited as frequently as nondiversity papers in management and industrial/organizational (I/O) psychology journals. Based on the stigma‐by‐association theory, I argue that as a result of their association with minority groups, diversity papers may be devalued and thus "othered" by scholars. Using a citation analysis of 46,930 papers published in 29 peer‐reviewed management and I/O psychology journals, I present empirical evidence in Study 1 that diversity papers were cited significantly less frequently than nondiversity papers. The authors' gender and institutional prestige, journal tier and domain, and year of publication were not moderators. In Study 2, I used a scenario experiment to demonstrate the stigma‐by‐association effect. The authors' gender demonstrated a significant moderating effect in this experiment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

RESEARCHER positionality ,SCHOLARLY method ,THEORY of knowledge ,SCHOLARLY peer review ,PEER review committees - Abstract
It cannot be nullified that the peer review process is characterized by reviewers who tend to destructively assume the role of researchers. In so doing, this behavior undermines the intellectual ability of researchers, especially novice researchers, who dedicate their time attempting to contribute to scholarly epistemology. Effectively, this concerning behavior of assuming the role of a researcher denotes that the reviewers downplay the reality that researchers certainly know something; no matter how little or greater it is. Thus, it is not fair-minded for reviewers to regard themselves as if they are gods of knowledge. With this in mind, this particular paper aims to explore and open a dialogue concerning the challenge of reviewers who destructively assume the role of an author or researcher, thereupon sabotaging the peer review process by imposing their personal scholarly interests. This is against the reality that such conduct deters potential epistemologies that could make a constructive social impact within and outside the arena of scholarship. In parallel, such behavior from the reviewers may lead to the rejection of scholarly contributions that can generate change and transformation in the academic community. By the same token, the rejection of papers, in large part, by the recommendations of destructive reviewers who assume researchers’ roles may demoralize novice researchers who have a strong determination to construct and assemble original, and innovative insights into the body of knowledge. In view of this fact, reviewers ought to appreciate the importance of recognizing the voices and narratives of the authors without imposing their personal interests that could sabotage the quality and publication of valuable and well-deserving scholarly papers. On account of this, I conclude this scholarly dialogue by presenting some of the recommendations that may be considered to mitigate the problematized phenomenon. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

MEDICAL research ethics ,EXPERTISE ,REPORT writing ,RECOMMENDER systems ,STANDARDS ,AUTHORS ,PUBLISHING - Abstract
In order to publish good research papers from Japan, it is necessary to conduct good (i.e., meaningful) research, obtain good (i.e., meaningful) results, and write good manuscripts that convey the significance of research. In particular, when aiming for publication in an English medical journal, the manuscript should be written in correct and accurate English, which is a major challenge for authors who are non-native speakers of English, such as those from Japan. At the same time, to ensure that the manuscript is a "good paper," attention should also be paid to elements other than language. To write a paper that will be accepted by reliable medical journals, including top-ranked ones, the content should be appropriately written according to the requirements based on international standards, such as the reporting guidelines endorsed by the EQUATOR Network and the recommendations of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors; this is a common challenge not only for Japanese authors but for authors around the world. Medical writers are professionals who improve the quality of manuscripts and facilitate the publication of research. Based on my own expertise and experience as a medical writer for 20 years in supporting clinical research, I would like to describe the steps I think should be followed to produce good manuscripts. I would also like to focus on the importance of education and of collaboration with professionals in writing and publishing research papers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The primary question of the present paper is how cultural and political context impact the ways that the cultural value of books is constructed through the publisher's paratexts. The present paper examines the textual periphery that surrounds and contextualizes the text and mediates the relations between the text, the author, the publisher and potential readers. The paper examines paratextual elements on the book cover of Diary of an Invasion by Andrey Kurkov, the peculiarities of the cover structure and layout of the English-language editions, their functions in communicating the constituent elements of Ukrainian identity to an English-speaking reader. The detailed description of the structural elements of the cover of the book about Russian invasion of Ukraine, written in a time of war and published for English-language readers adds novelty to the research. Moreover, the aim of the paper is to prove that the textual periphery expresses explicitly and implicitly the publisher's promoting strategy of establishing emotional connection with readers and building credibility to the author and his narrative, that effectively contribute to the reader's initial interaction with the text. The present paper analyses the structure of the front cover, the back cover and the spine and describes the following paratextual elements: the name of the author, the title, blurbs, logo of the publisher, illustrative material, and a photo. This article focuses on the professional writing of women in the transformation phase around 1800. Referring specifically to the woman of letters Helmina von Chézy (1783-1856) and her family, which participated in the literary market over four generations, it asks how authors could use paper(s) as assets or resources. It is shown that writersʼ papers were collected and kept as material evidence of life, that they could be an indicator of financial status and provide insight into financial practices, and that they were used particularly to position oneself (as a writer) and to relate to others. Within changing personal and historical contexts, the writing work of family members was based ultimately, in varying forms and shapes, on the logics of their social relations, lived as well as negotiated and recorded on paper. Thus, the papers used and inscribed in the family can be conceptualized as a multi-perspective kaleidoscope, offering new views on central aspects and mechanisms of writerly economies. Given the need in Scientometrics to get beyond merely classifying scientific production based on the classification of the journals in which it is published, there have been many attempts to classify papers directly. Little has been done, however, to check how reliable the results are. In this work, a collection of publications was generated which we call an Author's Assignation Collection (AAC) comprising 13449 papers referenced in the Scopus database and classified by their research guarantor with fractional weighting in terms of Scopus's own ASJC scheme. The methodological approach taken is described, and the collection's representativeness is evaluated and compared with the journal-based classification. There stand out both the great number of papers assigned by their research guarantors to more than one category (at times with even the same weight) and how frequently authors assigned categories which were not assigned to the journals in which their paper was published. Time-limited exposure of electrode-free optically rewritable electronic paper is essential for applications, but performance characteristics can be modest. In this study we investigate whether image writer mode can improve kinetics of the photosensitive layer order parameter, which is described by the rotational diffusion model. The model that we developed allows adjusting the transmittance spectra of polarisers. We have found that fairly uniform transmittance spectra of polarisers enable to obtain competitive contrast ratio of 8:1 within 10 s of exposure. In comparison with the long-time exposure, the reflectance coefficient reduces by 24%. Computer-simulated image is consistent with the experimental observations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Peer review is the evaluation of scientific, academic, or professional work by experts in the field. This process starts when the editor of a peer‑reviewed journal sends an article or a manuscript to two or more reviewers for review. They convey their suggestions to the editor. If the reviews are positive, the editor requests the authors to revise and resubmit the manuscript. The corresponding author provides a point‑wise explanation of the various queries raised by the reviewers and resubmits the paper. The editor may send the paper for re‑review, following which the editor makes the final decision. If accepted, the author is informed, and the paper is published. The peer review process has many variations such as blinded review (single or double blind), open review, and collaborative review. Each variant has its pros and cons. Peer review, when done before publication in a journal, has the advantage of producing papers that have undergone thorough scrutiny of their research question, methodology, and outcomes. Although this process may take more time compared to other methods, it has stood the test of time as a key quality control mechanism in scientific publishing. The reviewer should be unbiased and professional in his/her conduct and provide constructive feedback to improve the research paper. Several journals provide a checklist for peer reviewers, which facilitates a detailed review. Peer reviewing is a skill that improves the quality of publication at the level of an individual manuscript and benefits the scientific community at large. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The paper aims to contribute to the advancement of the theoretical and conceptual development of the field of media and literary studies, as well as to address the gaps, limitations or controversies in the existing literature. The paper also explores how news genre and fiction format affect the level and quality of interaction between the writers and readers of news stories, as well as the impact and influence of news stories on the Nigerian society. The paper uses a qualitative content analysis to analyse the news articles and fiction books that are selected for this study, according to the criteria of news genres, fiction formats and interaction. The paper finds that the hybrid fiction format is the most consistent and popular among the news genres, as it combines and blends elements from different fiction formats. The paper also finds that the investigative news genre is the most engaging and appealing among the news genres, as it provides in-depth, original and exposé reports of hidden or controversial matters. The paper argues that news stories and journalism genres are not neutral or objective, but rather social and rhetorical constructs that shape and are shaped by the communicative practices and purposes of discourse communities. The paper concludes that news stories and journalism genres are dynamic and evolving, as they respond to the changing social, political and technological contexts. The paper also discusses the implications, limitations and contributions of the research for the field of genre and media studies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has had a significant impact on dermatology, but to date no bibliometric analysis of this field has been identified. Therefore, the aim of this study was to perform a bibliometric indicator analysis of the worldwide scientific production of COVID-19 in dermatology. Materials and Methods: An advanced bibliographic search was performed in the Scopus database to identify articles on COVID-19 and dermatology from 2020 to 2021. The collected information was analysed with SciVal software. Bibliometric data were described through figures and summary tables. Results: A total of 1448 documents were collected and analysed. Torello Lotti was the author with the greatest scientific production; however, Esther Freeman had the greatest impact. Harvard University was the institution with the highest number of published articles. Most papers were published in the first quartiles. The United States and Italy were the leading countries in terms of production. Articles with international collaboration had the highest impact. Conclusion: Articles related to dermatology and COVID-19 are mostly published with American and Italian affiliations. In addition, there has been an increase in the distribution of articles published in the first quartile, which would reflect a growing interest in the community. Publications with international collaboration reported the highest impact, so future authors should take this into account. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

LITERARY adaptations ,FILM studies ,RESONANCE ,ARTISTS ,AUTHORS ,FILM adaptations - Abstract
The literary adaptation into cinematic terms has become a ubiquitous phenomenon. In such a way, it brings about the intersection of the literary and the cine-text working towards assessing the intertextual resonances between the two. However, narratives can be subjected to several omissions and slippages which the artist intentionally devises. Formulating such gaps in between, the artist attempts to engage the attention of the readers/viewers and invites them to mend the fissures complying with the interpretive scope offered in the text. Venturing in a similar direction, the paper comparatively evaluates Bapsi Sidhwa's Ice-Candy-Man with Deepa Mehta's Earth. In doing so, it analyses the art of gap management as adopted and adapted from the literary precursor to the cinematic successor. To this end, it problematizes the creative approaches of the two artists involved. To put it differently, the perusal determines to what extent the writer and the director converge and diverge in the treatment of narratorial fissures by adopting the methodological tools of inclusion, omission and modification in the management of gaps in their respective renderings. Interestingly, such a perspective complicates the discourse around adaptation studies and offers a new insight into the process of adaptation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

An integral domain R is said to be locally G-Dedekind if the Gorenstein global dimension of R is at most one for each maximal ideal . In this paper, we show that an integral domain R is not necessarily a G-Prüfer even if R is a locally G-Dedekind domain, which gives a negative answer to the question raised by the first author. It follows that the localization of the G-Prüfer domain differs from the classical case of the Prüfer domain. We also study coherent locally G-Dedekind domains, called almost G-Dedekind domains. The almost G-Dedekind domains need not be integrally closed and fill the gap between the G-Dedekind domains and the G-Prüfer domains. Various examples are provided to illustrate the new concept. In this paper, we deal with a class of planar Schrödinger–Poisson systems, namely, - Δ u + V (x) u + γ 2 π (log (| · |) ∗ | u | 2) u = b | u | p - 2 u in R 2 , where γ > 0 , b ≥ 0 , p > 2 and V ∈ C (R 2 , R) is an unbounded potential function with inf R 2 V > 0 . Suppose moreover that the potential V satisfies { x ∈ R 2 : V (x) ≤ M } < ∞ for every M > 0 , we establish the existence of ground state solutions for this system via variational methods. Furthermore, we also explore the minimax characterization of ground state solutions. Our main results can be viewed as a counterpart of the results from Molle and Sardilli (Proc Edinb Soc 65:1133–1146, 2022), where the authors studied the existence of ground state solutions for the above planar Schrödinger–Poisson system in the case where b > 0 and p > 4 . This paper proposes an implicit family of sub-step integration algorithms grounded in the explicit singly diagonally implicit Runge–Kutta (ESDIRK) method. The proposed methods achieve third-order consistency per sub-step, and thus, the trapezoidal rule is always employed in the first sub-step. This paper demonstrates for the first time that the proposed s-sub-step implicit method with s ≤ 6 can reach sth-order accuracy when achieving dissipation control and unconditional stability simultaneously. Hence, this paper develops, analyzes, and compares four cost-optimal high-order implicit algorithms within the present s-sub-step method using three, four, five, and six sub-steps. Each high-order implicit algorithm shares identical effective stiffness matrices to achieve optimal spectral properties. Unlike the published algorithms, the proposed high-order methods do not suffer from the order reduction for solving forced vibrations. Moreover, the novel methods overcome the defect that the authors' previous algorithms require an additional solution to obtain accurate accelerations. Linear and nonlinear examples are solved to confirm the numerical performance and superiority of four novel high-order algorithms. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper studies equable parallelograms whose vertices lie on the Eisenstein lattice. Using Rosenberger's Theorem on generalised Markov equations, we show that the set of these parallelograms forms naturally an infinite tree, all of whose vertices have degree 4, bar the root which has degree 3. This study naturally complements the authors' previous study of equable parallelograms whose vertices lie on the integer lattice. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: This study aims to shed some light on the subject matter of the exploration of public medical coverage and elderly done as such far across the world. To achieve this objective, a comprehensive bibliometric examination was used to investigate papers published between the years 1960 and 2020. An aggregate of 366 papers was selected and analysed for the same. The investigation endeavours to recognise the journals with outstanding performance in this field, distribution of papers concerning the year of their publication, most referred to papers. Then various maps depicting bibliometric networks are provided, namely, the joint-authorship network map, inter-country joint-authorship network map and keyword co-occurrence network map. Design/methodology/approach: To achieve the objective of this study, the Scopus database was used for comprehending the vast magnitude of information about numerous papers included in this paper. VOSviewer has been used to create a joint-authorship network map, inter-country joint-authorship network map and keywords concurrences network map. Findings: The result of this investigation demonstrates that the highest number of publications came out in the year 2019, the most notable journal is Journal of Aging and Social Policy, and the most referred to research paper is about long-term care insurance (LTCI) in Japan. The USA is the most productive nation with the most elevated number of papers published under its name. Tamiya N. has teamed up with the highest number of authors, which is 29. Again the USA is the nation that participated with the highest number of authors of different countries in the research paper. Originality/value: This paper accord with the current writing on public health insurance and elderly. A much far-reaching and solid image of this sector is given using the bibliometric analysis technique. The authors keen on directing future exploration on this topic can take guidance from the results of this study. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A stylised fact in bibliometric research is that in the field of management studies, half or more of the papers published are never cited. If true, this implies that efforts and resources are considerably wasted because half of the academic work is not considered worthy by the same community that developed them. We studied a sample of 2777 papers published in 20 journals and representing different levels of quality. Of these, only 191 papers, representing 6.5% of the sample, were never cited, suggesting that the aforementioned stylised fact is a myth. We identified the factors that contribute to the level of citations, including the ranking of the journal in the quality list, time since last citation, and number of authors. The implications discussed suggest a need for reflection regarding the relevance of the factors that predict future citations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

With the continuous development of the maritime transportation industry, many researchers paid highly attention to the research field of maritime transportation, and numerous related studies were conducted. Therefore, it is very timely and necessary to examine the active authors, affiliations and nationalities focused on this research field, so as to enable new researchers to quickly build an understanding of this field. Based on 2,972 papers published in 66 journals from 2011 to 2020, this paper uses three indicators: number of papers, the weighted score, and the impact score, to rank top fifty authors, affiliations, and nationalities in the research field of maritime transportation, and show their ranking changes in five-year intervals. Finally, this paper counts the frequency of keywords from all papers and surveys the number of research topics in the past ten years from the four research fields of 'shipping' 'port' 'maritime fleet' and 'green shipping' to help researchers identify research hotspots and grasp future directions. Recently, papers with multiple corresponding authors (co-correspondence) are frequently noticed in scientific journals. This is a trend that parallels a significant increase in research collaboration, but its rapidity raises concern about whether the legitimacy and value of the corresponding authorship are changing or even damaged. This study investigated how extensive and sound the trend of co-correspondence in science and engineering is. The increasing trend of co-correspondence papers was confirmed by examining SCOPUS index (www.scopus.com) for the papers published by scholars of the USA, Japan, South Korea, and China in 2008-09 and 2018-2019. The number of co-correspondence papers indeed increased in all four countries. However, the numbers varied significantly among the countries, markedly higher in South Korea and China cases, which also showed far higher numbers of the papers with a co-corresponding author who is the only member from his group. To dig into reality, South Korean scholars were surveyed with questionnaires regarding the trend of co-correspondence. Over 64% of respondents answered that they had participated in papers where multiple corresponding authors are listed, and 22% of them thought that the co-corresponding author did not play his due role and the co-corresponding authorship was exchanged between friends or given as a courtesy for various reasons. Although corresponding authorship allocation is majorly a concern for journal editors, a trend of inappropriate practices or misuse of co-corresponding authorship calls for local and global academic community awareness. In the paper, I examine the concept of "cruelty" (kaumai) of physical substances in the Tamil siddha alchemical literature, by taking as the starting point an analysis of the selected texts ascribed to Siddhar Yākōpu alias Rāmatēvar (ca. 17
th -18th c.), a prominent author of the Tamil siddha alchemical tradition. The alchemical works of Yākōpu repeatedly describe certain alchemical operations, the names of which allude to acts of violence, such as "binding" (kautal) and "killing" (kollutal). Such operations, according to the texts, should be mastered and performed by alchemists on various material substances. In the paper, I analyze passages that shed light on the purpose and character of such operations in the alchemical tradition of the Siddhars. I also address the issue of the non-human material agency related to the perspective of material ecocriticism as presented in the Tamil siddha texts. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

The authorship policies of scientific journals often assume that in order to be able to properly place credit and responsibility for the content of a collaborative paper we should be able to distinguish the contributions of the various individuals involved. Hence, many journals have introduced a requirement for author contribution statements aimed at making it easier to place credit and responsibility on individual scientists. We argue that from a purely descriptive point of view the practices of collaborating scientists are at odds with the requirement for author contribution statements. We also argue that from a normative point of view the authorship policies may be unnecessary. Our arguments draw on an examination of 35 years of retraction notices in the journal Science. SYMMETRY ,AUTHORS - Abstract
In this paper, we settle three basic questions concerning the Gutt–Hutchings capacities from [11] which are conjecturally equal to the Ekeland–Hofer capacities from [7, 8]. Our primary result settles a version of the recognition question from [4], in the negative. We prove that the Gutt–Hutchings capacities together with the volume do not constitute a complete set of symplectic invariants for star-shaped domains with smooth boundary. In particular, we construct a smooth family of such domains, all of which have the same Gutt–Hutchings capacities and volume, but no two of which are symplectomorphic. We also establish two independence properties of the Gutt–Hutchings capacities. We prove that, even for star-shaped domains with smooth boundaries, these capacities are independent from the volume by constructing a family of star-shaped domains with smooth boundaries, whose Gutt–Hutchings capacities all agree but whose volumes all differ. We also prove that the capacities are mutually independent by constructing, for any j ∈ ℕ , a family of star-shaped domains, with smooth boundary and the same volume, whose capacities are all equal but the j th. The constructions underlying these results are not exotic. They are convex and concave toric domains as defined in [11], where the authors also establish beautiful formulae for their capacities. A key to the progress made here is a significant simplification of these formulae under an additional symmetry assumption. This simplification allows us to identify new blind spots of the Gutt–Hutchings capacities which are used to construct the desired examples. This simplification also yields explicit computations of the Gutt–Hutchings capacities in many new examples. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In Kim et al. (Nagoya Math J 178: 37-53, 2005), Lee and Lee (J Geometry Phys 56(10): 2011-2023, 2006), the authors developed a nice formula to compute the Nielsen number of a self-map on an infra-nilmanifold. For the case of nilmanifolds this formula was extended to n-valued maps in Deconinck and Dekimpe (J Fixed Point Theory Appl 25(4): Paper No. 84, 29, 2023). In this paper, we extend these results further and establish the averaging formula to compute the Nielsen number of any n-valued affine map on an infra-nilmanifold. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The use of computers and the role of women in radio astronomy and X-ray crystallography research at the Cavendish Laboratory between 1949 and 1975 have been investigated. We recorded examples of when computers were used, what they were used for and who used them from hundreds of papers published during these years. The use of the EDSAC, EDSAC 2 and TITAN computers was found to increase considerably over this time-scale and they were used for a diverse range of applications. The majority of references to computer operators and programmers referred to women, 57% for astronomy and 62% for crystallography, in contrast to a very small proportion, 4% and 13% respectively, of female authors of papers. This essay is devoted to Letter on Drained Paper [Listy na wyczerpanym papierze] by Agnieszka Osiecka and Jeremi Przybora covering the years 1964-1966. Its aim is to show the epistolographic strategies adopted by the correspondents. First, by analysing the structure of the letters, I characterise the authors' writing style, juxtaposing its similarities and differences. This makes it possible to show the features characteristic of a love letter, to which Osiecka and Przybora's collection belongs. I also look at what influences the uniqueness of the love story and the development of their feelings in the epistolographic space. This allows one to see how the authors' writing workshops differ and how the correspondents express their emotions. I also highlight the performative role of correspondence and how writers can create each other. An analysis of the unspoken words in the letters is also important. I show what effect such a procedure had on the reader's perception of the correspondence. Then I focus on the structure of the correspondence of Agnieszka Osiecka and Jeremi Przybora, showing the style of the artists, the differences in their writing and the common features of their letters. I characterise Osiecka's and Przybora's writing separately. I outline the evolution of the writers' feelings in love throughout their correspondence. I also draw attention to the role of the space the artists were in at any given time and how the songs of the lovers complemented their correspondence. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
