Purpose: This study investigated how interprofessional education (IPE) related to medication for undergraduate healthcare students, including nursing students, has been designed and conducted. Furthermore, the outcomes of these IPE programs were evaluated. Methods: A scoping review was performed to understand the content and methods of IPE on medication for undergraduate healthcare students, including nursing students. A literature search was done using PubMed, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, Embase, Research Information Sharing Service, and Korean Nursing Database in English between January 2000 and December 2022. In total, 14 papers were selected and reviewed. Results: Eleven research studies were conducted on the implementation of one-time IPE on medication safety or errors. Among them, six studies focused on providing IPE to nursing students alongside medical and pharmacy students, while three studies targeted nursing and medical students, and two studies focused on nursing and pharmacy students. The most commonly employed educational method was simulation, which was utilized in 12 studies. All studies consistently reported a positive impact on attitudes toward IPE and effective communication. Additionally, five studies evaluating medication knowledge reported improvements in participants’ understanding of drugs. Purpose : In this study, we aimed to assess the impacts of grit, patient safety competence, and patient safety culture on the patient safety nursing activities of nurses in comprehensive nursing service wards. Methods : Here, a self-reported survey of 179 nurses from three tertiary hospitals was performed. Data from 171 valid responses were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-test, one-way analysis of variance, Pearson's correlation, and stepwise multiple regression analyses. Results : The key sub-factors influencing the patient safety nursing activities were attitude (β=.30, p<.001) and skill (β=.26, p<.001) in the patient safety competence factor and safety environment (β=.26, p<.001) in the patient safety culture factor. The regression model explained 42.7% of the variance in patient safety nursing activities (F=43.29, p<.001). Conclusion : Overall, these findings highlight the importance of improving the nurse attitude and skills related to patient safety as well as the safety environment in hospitals to enhance the patient safety nursing activities in comprehensive nursing service wards. Targeted educational and training programs should be provided along with organizational support to establish a safe and supportive nursing environment in comprehensive nursing service wards. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify and explain the subjectivity of care workes’ perception on remaining functional ability care. Methods: This study applied the Q-methodology approach. Through a literature review and individual interviews related to the topic of the study, 37 Q-statements were finally derived from 200 Q-populations, and 40 P-samples were asked to classify the Q statements. The data were analyzed using the QUANL Program. Factor analysis was performed using the P-samples along the axis. Results: As a result, Type 1 sees the need for remaining functional ability care in the physical area, and Type 2 recognizes the need for remaining functional ability care in the cognitive and psychological areas. Type 3 negatively perceives remaining functional ability care. Type 4 sees remaining functional ability care as an inaccessible area. Conclusion: This study suggests care workers should provide remaining functional ability care and institutions should develop an educational program on the concept’s effect and enhance care workers’ roles and task types so they can develop expertise. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify factors related to the professional quality of life of nurses in long-term care hospitals. Methods: A descriptive survey was conducted among 144 nurses with more than 3 months of work experience in five long-term care hospitals in B metropolitan city. Data were collected from April 15 to 30, 2022 and analyzed using the independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Mann-Whitney test, Pearson’s correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression. Results: The regression model explained 51% of the variance of long-term care hospital nurses' compassion satisfaction (F=35.72, p<.001). Significant factors were dementia attitude (β=.23, p=.001), professional self-concept (β=.51, p<.001), marital status (married) (β= .16, p=.019) and more than 10 years of clinical experience at a long-term care hospital (β= -.29, p<.001). The regression model explained 36% of the variance of long-term care hospital nurses' compassion fatigue (F=12.93, p<.001). Significant factors were dementia attitude (β=-.27, p=.001), burden on behavioral psychological symptoms of dementia (β=.38, p<.001), women (β=.20, p=.005), more than 10 years of clinical experience at a long-term care hospital (β=.20, p=.004) and experience in education about dementia (yes) (β=-.16, p=.029). Conclusion: This study revealed several factors that are correlated with the professional quality of life of long-term care hospital nurses. To improve their quality of life, hospitals should help nurses have a positive attitude toward dementia, reduce the burden of behavioral psychological symptoms of dementia, and provide dementia care training. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to provide the basic data for reinforcing community nurses’ competencies related to elder abuse by identifying their perception based on an ecological system model. Methods: This study was a descriptive study. Structured self-reported questionnaires were sent via email to Seoul community nurses from Nov. 17 to Nov. 31, 2021 and, after getting their consent, a URL survey was distributed for collecting data online. Data were analyzed using the SPSS 25.0 program by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation coefficient. Results: Total perception of elder abuse was scored at 1.32±0.46 points out of 4. Among the individual characteristics, educational level (F=4.48, p=.013) and economic level (F=4.21, p=.016) were identified as variables with significant differences in perception of developmental abuse. Subjective health status negatively correlated with perception of spiritual abuse (r=-.15, p=.048). There were no significant variables among the family characteristics. Among the socio-cultural characteristics, elderly human rights positively correlated with total perception of elder abuse (r=.16, p=.031), sociocultural abuse (r=.23, p=.003), and spiritual abuse (r=.22, p=.003). Conclusion: It is necessary to increase the level of perception of elder abuse by community nurses to efficiently respond to the increasing elder abuse in the community. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: This study was to identify how a nursing management practicum was operated during the COVID-19 pandemic in Korea. Methods: This study surveyed instructors teaching the nursing management practicum with a questionnaire covering five domains and 42 items. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and content analysis. Results: The practicum was performed mainly by mixed methods (40.8% and 38.5%), in hospitals only (30.8% and 60.4%), online only (19.8% and 1.1%) in 2020 and 2021, respectively. The mixed methods were most frequently used for instructor teaching and conferences (43.9% and 58.3%). and the average teaching time per week was 9.40 and 8.69 hours per week, respectively. Taking charge in one to three core nursing skill items, 87.8% and 90.1% of the respondents each year performed face to face evaluation for the skills. Four to six out of 12 POs were covered by 58.2% and 54.9% of the participants, respectively, in 2020 and 2021. The greatest difficulty under the pandemic was securing students' hospital assignments. Conclusion: The nursing management practicum needs to adopt various digital technologies, and create new education models including hybrid ones combining both contact and untact methods to improve the educational effect for the post COVID-19 era. Purpose: This study was conducted to understand the unmet needs and quality of life of colorectal cancer survivors immediately after the end of primary treatment and 5 years later. Methods: This study was designed as a cross-sectional, descriptive, and correlation study. Data collection was conducted from July 2021 to December 2021. A total of 256 colorectal cancer survivors participated in the study, including 121 immediately after treatment and 135 five years later, among survivors of colorectal cancer who visited colorectal surgery outpatient clinics at two hospitals in Korea. We investigated unmet needs and quality of life immediately after the end of treatment and after five years. Data were assessed by using self-reported structured questionnaires. Results: It was confirmed that colorectal cancer survivors had higher unmet needs and lower quality of life immediately after the end of treatment than after 5 years. Additionally, regardless of the period after the end of treatment, the higher the unmet needs, the lower the quality of life. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, when developing and applying nursing interventions for managing colorectal cancer survivors, it will be helpful to improve the quality of life by identifying differences in unmet needs for each survival period. Purpose: This was a cross-sectional descriptive study in which an exploration was done of how nursing students perceive debriefing and what they think are the most effective debriefing methods for simulation-based nursing education. Methods: A convenience sample of 296 sophomore, junior and senior nursing students from three universities and who had attended simulation classes participated in this study. Survey data garnered was analyzed using descriptive analysis and χ² test. Results: A high majority of the participants (98.3%) saw debriefing as "learning from mistakes", while 62.8% considered it more important than simulations/scenarios. They also perceived debriefing to be effective when they analyzed their colleagues' and their own performances and received feedback. Sophomore students preferred writing a reflection paper as an effective debriefing method compared to junior and senior students. Conclusion: The study findings indicate that debriefing is an important component of simulation-based education and should be considered part of the teaching strategies with debriefing methods dependent on themes and scenarios and what is needed to achieve learning outcomes. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify the knowledge structure of the concept of resilience of dementia caregivers and to understand core topics and the trends in dementia caregiver resilience research over time. Methods: This study is a quantitative content analysis using text network analysis on the studies on resilience of caregivers of people with dementia. We searched the available literature in two scientific databases, PubMed and the Web of Science. Term frequency, the number of co-occurrence, and centrality were analyzed, and Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) analysis was conducted with Net Miner program. Results: A total 187 articles were identified. The core keywords found were "care", "family", "support", "burden", "intervention", "health", "stress", "relationship", "symptom", "depression", "partner", and "quality of life". Four main topics were identified through the LDA analysis, such as "support from family and social resources", "hardships to overcome", "building strength to overcome adversity", and "coping with negative emotions". There was only one study before 2000, but the number of studies steadily increased to 50 for the years 2011~2015, and 111 for the years 2016~2020. Conclusion: This is the first study to analyze the knowledge structure and research trend of resilience research of caregivers of people with dementia through social network analysis and topic modeling. This study provides a scientific basis of the future studies in Korea. Moreover, it is meaningful in that it brought a comprehensive understanding of the studies by comprehensively analyzing the studies of the resilience of caregivers of people with dementia. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analysis the manuscripts rejected for publication in the Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing Administration during the last three years six months (2012~2015 Jun). Methods: Seventy eight rejected manuscripts were analyzed focusing on manuscripts characteristics, such as rejection rates, year of submission, occupation of first author and corresponding author, number of authors, funding, thesis or dissertation, article type, study participants, number of reviews prior to rejection, and 3rd reviewer. Also reviewers' quantitative evaluation scores and subjective comments were analyzed. Reviewers' subjective comments were analyzed using content analysis methodology. Results: The mean rate for manuscript rejection was 28.9% and for quantitative research, qualitative research, and review papers the quantitative evaluation scores were 2.54±0.70, 2.39±0.69, and 2.39±0.69 out of 5 points, respectively. The most frequent subjective comment on rejected manuscripts was ‘lack of rationale for research need'. Conclusion: In this study the characteristics and the reasons for rejecting manuscripts were identified. These findings can be used in developing effective strategies for researchers, reviewers and editors to improve the quality of research and research reviews of nursing administration research. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify trends in nursing research on children and adolescents with cancer in Korea and suggest the direction for future research. Methods: A COSI model was used to guide the search process between the years 1988 and 2014, using the keywords ‘cancer', ‘malignancy', ‘leukemia’, ‘HSCT', ‘BMT', ‘children', ‘adolescent' and ‘nursing'. Results: Of 104 papers, 10 were doctoral dissertations, 34 were master's theses and 60 were from academic journals. Quantitative research accounted for 91.3% while qualitative research accounted for 7.7%. The most frequently used research designs were quasi-experimental (84.6%) for experimental research and surveys (75.6%) for non-experimental research. As survival rates improved, the focus shifted to descriptive studies examining the adjustment of childhood cancer survivors. Conclusion: The overall findings of this study suggest that future research should include more well-designed experimental studies and repeated studies to confirm the effect of previous study findings. Longitudinal studies are recommended to determine long-term child adjustment. Supporting systems and funding are required to help activate research of clinical nurses. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: Despite research efforts, current fall rates are still higher than expected. To approach this problem, we developed guidelines on preventing falls in hospitals. Methods: Four guidelines were selected by the K-AGREE II process. Recommendations from each guideline were retrieved and evaluated based on the quality of evidence and the strength of the recommendations. Recommendations followed the grading system of the Korean Hospital Nurses Association's Guideline Adaptation Manual. In the external review, 13 practice nurses from 5 hospitals and 13 panel experts including doctors, nursing managers, and pharmacists participated. Results: The final guideline consisted of 5 sections and 341 recommendations. The first two sections were composed of recommendations for institutional readiness for change process and management, and Section 3 was divided into assessment of risk factors, preventive intervention and post-fall management. The summary of falls risk factors included seven components. Multifaceted interventions were modeled into six strategies. The final sections consisted of recommendations for implementing fall improvement programs and for sustaining effective prevention programs. Conclusion: Given that falls result from various combinations of risk factors, the present guideline contains multifaceted assessments and interventions including risk-targeted strategy. Clinical professionals gain new information to assist in patient care when they read the medical literature. Adoption of electronic health records (EHRs) is increasing worldwide. The worldwide EHR adoption rate is estimated to be around 9% to 12%. Thus, the accumulation of medical records in electronic form is also sharply increasing and is expected to be a precious asset for clinical research. Longitudinal observational studies based on EHRs are also increasing. Observational studies covering more than a million people are not rare at present. However, much of the current EHR data are equivalent in form to those of paper records, but are just stored in electronic stor-age devices, rather than as electronic data that can be transferred and shared without loss of clinical semantics. Current EHR systems must be improved in many ways to be used for anal-yses to yield important clinical knowledge. These improvements, which are addressed in this review, include the adoption of clinical data warehouses, use of controlled vocabulary, avoidance of personal/departmental research databases, a standardized interface of many diagnostic devices with the EHR system, control of time-stamp granularity, preparedness for whole-genome sequencing of every patient, confederation or consolidation of multiinstitutional EHR data, protection of privacy and confidentiality, and an education system for clinical informaticians. Purpose: This study aimed to examine the effect of multidisciplinary lifestyle modification program in overweight or obese middle-aged women. Methods: This study was conducted from January 2 to June 5, 2018 at Jeonju city in South Korea. A non-equivalent control group quasi-experimental design was used. A total of 46 women were assigned to the experiment group (n=22) or the control group (n=24). The multidisciplinary lifestyle modification program for this study consisted of physical activity, nutritional management, stress management, health counseling, lifestyle monitoring, and affective support based on King's goal attainment theory, which was implemented for eight weeks. Results: Significant group differences were found in health- promoting behavior (p<.001), depression (p<.001), anxiety (p=.018), stress (p=.001), weight loss (p=.002) and reproductive symptoms (p=.020) among overweight and obese middle-aged women. Conclusion: Multidisciplinary lifestyle modification program is effective in improving health-promoting behavior, depression, anxiety, stress, weight loss and reproductive symptoms. Therefore, healthcare providers should develop strategies to expand and provide multidisciplinary lifestyle modification program through interaction and transaction for overweight or obese middle-aged women. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify subjectivity on smoking cessation of Korean adult males, and to provide basic data, for non-smoking policies. Methods: Q-methodology, a method of analyzing subjectivity of each item, was used. Thirty-nine adult males, classified 36 selected Q-statements into normal distribution, using a 9-point scale. Collected data were analyzed, using the pc-QUNAL program. Results: Among the Korean adult males, three types of smoking cessation were identified. The name for Type I was ‘pursuit of faith’, for Type II, ‘factor of relationship disturbance’ and for Type III ‘ambivalence’. Conclusion: Results of this study indicate that different approaches to intervention on smoking cessation are best served for Korean adult males, based on the three types of smoking cessation, and their characteristics. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the sleep quality of nurses in the comprehensive nursing care units of small-medium sized hospitals, and general and work-related characteristics associated with sleep quality of nurses. Methods: Participants were 312 nurses in comprehensive nursing care units of eight small and medium hospitals. The data were collected between June and August, 2018. A survey questionnaire including, sleep quality, general, and work-related characteristics of nurses was used. The data were analyzed using SPSS/WIN 23.0 program with descriptive statistics, independent t-test, and χ² test. Logistic regression analyses were used to identify factors associated with sleep quality. Results: The average score for sleep quality was 8.58±3.18 (0~21). Using a cut-off point of 8.5, 51.9% were poor sleepers. Sleep quality was associated with age (Odds Ratio [OR]=0.93, 95% Confidence Interval [CI]=0.88~0.99). Conclusion: Age was identified as a factor associated with sleep quality among nurses in the comprehensive nursing care units at small and medium sized hospitals. Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the relationship among nursing professionalism, perfectionism, resilience, and burnout, amongst nurses in cancer wards, and to further identify factors influencing burnout. Methods: Conducted in June 2018, this descriptive cross-sectional study included 157 cancer wards nurses. The survey employed structured questionnaires including the Koreannursing Professional Value Scale, Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale, Dispositional Resilience Scale-15, and burnout subscale of the Professional Quality of Life Scale. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-tests, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and entered multiple regression. Results: The total burnout score was 31.20±4.87, out of a maximum of 50. Nursing professionalism (r =-.40, p<.001) and resilience (r=-.68, p<.001) showed a negative correlation with burnout, while socially-oriented perfectionism showed a positive correlation with burnout (r=.19, p=.016). Entered multiple regression revealed that 49.3% of the total variance in burnout was the consequence of nursing professionalism and resilience. Conclusion: Resilience had the largest effect on burnout, followed by nursing professionalism. We believe that the results of this study provide basic data for developing nursing intervention programs aimed at reducing burnout amongst nurses in cancer wards. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the influences of health beliefs on fall prevention behavior among adult patients who had abdominal surgery. Methods: Data were collected from 136 patients who had undergone an abdominal surgery within the past 5 days. The data collection period was from September 21 to October 25, 2017. The health belief measurement tool, modified and reviewed by experts, and the fall prevention guideline developed by the Korean Nurses Association and revised by Park were used. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation and stepwise multiple regression analysis. Results: The Health Belief Model explained 45.7% of the variance in fall prevention behavior among adult patients who had abdominal surgery. Perceived susceptibility and perceived benefits had significant influence on fall-prevention behavior. Purpose: The aim of this study was to develop evidence-based nursing practice guidelines for cold application in adult care. Methods: The study procedure was based on the Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network and Korean Hospital Nurses Association's guideline development methods. The evidence review procedures included targeted searches from databases including the Cochrane Library, PubMed, CINAHL, Embase, KoreaMed, KERIS and NDSL. The initial search yielded 6,426 articles published from 2006 to 2016. Based on the screening process, 147 articles were selected and systematically reviewed. From evidence summaries of 20 clinical questions, recommendations were formulated and graded. Draft recommendation were evaluated through external review. Results: The guidelines consisted of 10 domains and 27 recommendations. The content validity index of the recommendations was above .80. Major recommendations include 1) applying external cooling to reduce acute pain, edema, and hemorrhage, 2) selecting cooling instruments based on the purpose, patient's condition, and preference, 3) preparing and maintaining cooling instruments at an adequate temperature, and 4) intermittent cold application for appropriate durations with sufficient recovery time. Purpose: This study was performed to assess problems associated with sleep (short and long sleep duration) and to identify risky subgroups with sleep problems among adult cancer survivors. The study is based on the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES VI and VII) from 2013 to 2016. Methods: The sociodemographic and clinical data of 504 Korean cancer survivors aged 20-64 years was extracted from the KNHANES VI and VII database. Descriptive statistics for complex samples was used, and decision-tree analyses were performed using the SPSS WIN 24.0 program. Results: The mean age for survivors was approximately 51 years. The mean sleep duration was 6.97 hours; 36.2% of participants had short (<7 hours) and 9.9% had long (>8 hours) sleep duration. From the decision-trees analyses, the characteristics of the adult cancer survivors related to sleep problems were presented with six different pathways. Sleep problems were analyzed according to the survivors' sociodemographic information (age, education, living status, and occupation), clinical characteristics (body mass index, hypercholesterolemia, and anemia) and health-related quality of life (HRQoL). The HRQoL (≤0.5 or >0.5 cutoff point) was a significant predictor of the participants' sleep problems because all six pathways were started from this predictor in the model. Conclusion: Health care professionals could use the decision-tree model for screening adult cancer survivors with sleep problems in clinical or community settings. Nursing interventions considering these specific individual characteristics and HRQoL level should be developed to have adequate sleep duration for Korean adult cancer survivors. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the rate of human papilloma virus (HPV) vaccinations among 12-year-old daughters and to analyze factors influencing the mothers' decisions to vaccinate their daughters. Methods: A cross sectional descriptive study was conducted using a convenience sample of 139 mothers. Data was analyzed using SPSS WIN 23.0. Descriptive statistics and a logistic regression analysis were conducted. Results: The vaccination rate of HPV among children was 43.9%. Mothers showed a higher knowledge of the HPV vaccination than of cervical cancer and of human papilloma virus. In self-efficacy scores, the subscores of self-regulation efficacy were higher than self-confidence and task difficulty preference. The factors influencing the vaccination of daughters included the age of the daughters at the time of the vaccination, the provision of information on the HPV vaccine, knowledge of the HPV vaccination, and self-confidence. Conclusion: In order to increase the HPV vaccination rate, it is necessary to provide accurate scientific knowledge to mothers. A variety of intervention strategies should be developed to enhance the confidence of mothers so that mothers who want to provide the HPV vaccination to their daughters are able to follow through and provide the vaccination. Purpose: Objectives of this study were to identify and describe cultural meaning for nursing students in the class in fundamental nursing practice. Methods: Data were collected from November 2016 to May 2017 included focus group interviews and participants observation. The key informants in this study included 23 nursing students divided into 3 focus groups who had taken the course in fundamental nursing practice in university U and university S in Kyungpook, and university D in Jeonnam. Interviews continued until no new information could be identified from transcripts. Data were analyzed using the taxonomic analysis method developed by Spradley. Results: Based on the data acquired from the interviews, cultural domains in the class "fundamental nursing practice" were classified as 'community oriented activities', 'learning and playing space', 'relationship of difference and discrimination', 'time for present and future'. Conclusion: The culture in the class "fundamental nursing practice" could be summarized as 'non-standardized learning with team dynamics'. Also nursing students learned about a small society whose members are becoming nurses. Results indicate that it is critical for professors to understand students' values, beliefs and their attitude in order to aid in adjustment to class. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify whether career decision-making self-efficacy and social support provide a moderating effect between career barriers and job-seeking stress for 4th year nursing students preparing for employment. Methods: A self report questionnaire survey was completed by 300 4th year nursing students at 6 universities located in 4 cities in Korea. Data were gathered during July, 2017 and analyzed using the SPSS 20.0 program. Results: There was significant positive correlation between career barriers and job-seeking stress, and negative correlation between career decision-making self-efficacy, social support and job-seeking stress. Career decision-making self-efficacy and social support had significant moderating effects in the relationship between career barriers and job-seeking stress among nursing students preparing for employment. Conclusion: The results of the study indicate that career decision-making self-efficacy and social support are important factors in reducing job-seeking stress among nursing students preparing for employment. Therefore, to understand various job-seeking stress factors among nursing students preparing for employment, consideration must be given to the development of educational programs and support systems to improve career decision-making self-efficacy and social support. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the mediating effects of self-efficacy and family support in the relationship between illness perception and health behaviors among patients with tuberculosis. Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted with 219 patients with tuberculosis from one general hospital in D city in Korea. The participants took medication over a two months period. Data were collected from four self-reported questionnaires including Health behaviors Questionnaire and Family Support Questionnaire. Of the four questionnaires, Venereal Disease Education Health Belief Model Scales and Health Belief Model Scales were modified for this study population with tuberculosis. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple regression analysis using SPSS statistics 23.0 program. Results: A positive correlation existed between health behaviors and illness perception (r=0.80, p<.001), self-efficacy (r=0.66, p<.001), and family support (r=0.73, p<.001). Self-efficacy and family support had partial mediating effect on the relationship between illness perception and health behaviors. Conclusion: Theses results indicated that in order to improve the health behaviors of patients with tuberculosis, it is necessary to develop a management plan that focuses not only on the illness perception but also on the self-efficacy and the role of the family support. Purpose: The aim of this study was to identify gender and age differences in health status and health behaviors of community-dwelling older adults in an urban city. Methods: A convenience sample of 500 older people were recruited. Participants completed eight study instruments by face to face interview. The instruments were the Korea Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (K-IADL), Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB), Body Mass Index (BMI), Mini Nutritional Assessment-Short Form, Stanford Research Instruments for Chronic Disease, Geriatric Depression Scale Short Form Korea version, EuroQol-5 Dimensions scale (EQ-5D), and the Study of Osteoporotic Fracture Frailty Index. Results: 71.6% were females and mean age of all participants was 74.4 years. Participants were divided into three age groups: 60 to 74 years (n=263, 52.6%), 75 to 84 years (n=207, 41.4%), and ≥85 years (n=30, 6.0%). Significant gender differences were found in educational level, marital status, family type, religion, perceived economic status, K-IADL, SPPB, grip strength, BMI, fatigue, smoking, drinking, communication with physicians and nurses, and EQ-5D. There were significant differences among the three age groups on educational level, marital status, family type, SPPB, grip strength, regular health check-up, communication with physicians and nurses, and frailty. Conclusion: Gender difference should be taken into consideration more than age when policy and preventive programs for community-dwelling older adults in an urban city is developed. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a self triage application for rescue requests by disaster vulnerable populations. Literature was reviewed in order to define application trends and needs. Methods: Development of the self triage application was conducted in six stages as a hybrid model (analysis, design, development, implementation, evaluation, modification) of the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) model and Driscoll & Alexander model. Application system function and contents were tried with 6 experts and 4 people with hearing impairments. Results: Expert assessment of the application for self triage showed that reliability at 5 points was the highest, followed by utility at 4.8 points. Scores for quickness and expressiveness were low at 4.6 and 4.2 points respectively. User acceptability assessment of the application was measured at 66.73 points. Conclusion: The results show that the application for self triage is helpful to disaster vulnerable populations by providing relief in disaster situations. It is expected that use of this application as a self rescue ability can be made available for disaster situations. However, it will be necessary to establish policies for communication strategies with rescuers and public relations to improve the access rate of disaster app service. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: This study was to compare the effects of early ambulation to usual care of late ambulation in patients with transarterial chemoembolization on back pain, discomfort, and puncture site complications. Methods: A nonequivalent control pretest-posttest design was used. Total 40 patients were recruited from a gastrointestinal unit of an urban general hospital in Seoul, South Korea. The experimental group began to ambulate after 4 hours of bed rest with a compression bandage after receiving transarterial chemoembolization. The control group stayed in bed with a compression bandage overnight. Results: Back pain was not significantly different between the two group. The experimental group reported significantly lower discomfort than the control group. There was no incidence of bleeding complications on puncture site between two groups. Conclusion: The results of this study showed that early ambulation with four hours of bed rest after femoral sheet removal did not cause bleeding complications compared to the usual care and even decreased patients’ level of discomfort due to bed rest. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe the approaches, methods and questions asked in intensive care unit studies published in Korean journals and the American Journal of Critical Care (AJCC) from 1992 to 2011. Only quantitative studies were reviewed. Methods: A total of 144 studies published in four Korean Journals and 521 studies published in American Journal of Critical Care (AJCC) were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: The most frequently used research design reported in Korean journals were surveys (83.5%), protocol development (10.1%), and randomized controlled trials (6.2%). In AJCC, the most frequently reported design was survey research (90.4%) and randomized controlled trials (16.1%). The most frequent nursing intervention reported in the AJCC was tube care (10.8%), and in Korean journals the intervention of suctioning (10.8%). In Korea, nurses were more likely to study instrument measurements (31.0%) and positioning (13.5%). In reported studies in the AJCC there were more reports on emotional support, exercise, and measurement research. Conclusion: There is overlap in the type of studies between the two countries in term of study design, whereas the types of nursing problems studied differed in United States and Korea. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe the subjective happiness and satisfaction with life of children with type 1 diabetes and explore related factors. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study design was used and the study was conducted with children at a diabetes camp. Data were collected using a self-report questionnaire to explore positive and negative psychological factors. The questionnaire included Subjective Happiness Scale, Satisfaction with Life Scale, Perceived Stress Scale and the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale for Children (CES-DC), Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support, and General Self-Efficacy Scale. Results: Data from 15 children were used for data analysis. The correlational analysis results showed that subjective happiness was positively correlated satisfaction with life, social support, and self-efficacy, and was negatively correlated with perceived stress. Satisfaction with life was positively correlated social support, and was negatively correlated with perceived stress. Conclusion: Results indicate that the positive psychology factors were closely related with social support and self-efficacy and may alleviate perceived stress and depressive feelings. Purpose: This study was done to identify the effects of Type D personality on compassion fatigue, burnout, compassion satisfaction, and job stress in clinical nurses. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional design was used. Data were collected from a convenience sample of 172 clinical nurses working in two tertiary hospitals. The structured questionnaires included Type D personality scale, compassion fatigue, burnout, compassion satisfaction, and job stress scales. Results: About 79.7% of participants were classified as Type D personality group. The Type D personality was not related to general characteristics of clinical nurses. The Type D personality group showed statistically significant higher compassion fatigue, burnout, and job stress and lower compassion satisfaction compared to the non-Type D personality group. In addition, compassion fatigue and burnout were positively correlated with job stress and compassion fatigue was positively correlated with burnout. However, compassion satisfaction was negatively correlated with burnout. Conclusion: As the prevalence of Type D personality is high in clinical nurses, it is necessary to assess stress-related personality. In addition, management for the nurse with Type D personality is required to alleviate compassion fatigue, burnout, and job stress and to improve compassion satisfaction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors influencing the health-promoting behaviors of the people living with HIV. Methods: Descriptive cross-sectional study design was used. The study participants included 99 people living with HIV recruited via the Korea HIV/AIDS Network of Solidarity from May 15 to August 15, 2012. Self-report questionnaires were used fo data collection measuring perceived stress, depression, self-efficacy, health-promoting behaviors (HPLP-II), and the perceived health status. The analysis was done using SPSS/Win 18.0 program. Descriptive statistics, pearson correlation, t-test, ANOVA and stepwise multiple regressions were used for data analysis. Results: Perceived stress (r=-.21, p=.040), depression (r=-.37, p<.001), self-efficacy (r=.42, p<.001), perceived health status (r=.29, p=.003), and health-promoting behaviors were significantly correlated with each other. The self-efficacy, religion and perceived health status were significant factors, which explained about 26% of the variance of the health-promoting behaviors. Multiple regression analysis showed that a powerful predictor of health-promoting behaviors among people living with HIV was self-efficacy. Conclusion: This study suggested that a focus of nursing intervention program on self-efficacy is necessary in order to increase health-promoting behaviors among people living with HIV. Purpose: Nurse educators can use film effectively to promote nursing students' motivation and indirect experiences. The purpose of this study was to develop a teaching-learning design using films based on Kolb's experiential learning model for understanding of child growth and development, and to evaluate students' satisfaction with cinenurducation according to learning type and content. Methods: Participants were seventy-four first year nursing students in the spring semester of 2013 at a private university located in Busan. In each class, participants watched film, participated in peer-to-group discussion and an educator's lecture, and wrote a composition based on Kolb's four learning stages. After class, participants filled out a questionnaire developed by the researchers. Results: Results showed a high satisfaction with cinenurducation regardless of learning type and content concerning child growth and development. Advantages of cinenurducation included it being "fun and interesting," "helpful to understand the characteristics of children," and "develop critical thinking through discussions." Disadvantages included "length of time needed," and "burdensome." Conclusion: Films are advantageous in that they provide indirect experience for nursing students. Selection of appropriate films and evaluation of learning goal achievements are important to maximize the effectiveness of cinenurducation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: This practice study was done to describe the process and outcomes of application of Evidence Based Nursing (EBN) Education to nursing management clinical practicum and suggest strategies to diffuse EBN into nursing management education. Methods: Education on the evidence based nursing management process was provided to 65 senior nursing students from a university. Nursing management clinical practicum integrated with EBN. The setting was a five full day-clinical practicum. Group and individual training on EBN process with lectures, small group discussions, conferences, and educational prescription were provided. Outcomes were analyzed using paired t test for 65 participants. Results: Evidence based nursing competency increased significantly showing improvement in understanding EBN, formulating clinical question, searching & classifying the evidence, recognizing level of evidence, considering patient preference, and evaluating outcomes. Nursing students' access and use of evidence based information resource also improved. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that the application of EBN to nursing management clinical practicum is effective to improve EBN competency in undergraduate students and should be further applied in nursing education using the systematic strategies.
