The article reports on the failure of the University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA) Bruins basketball team to win its 88th game over Notre Dame Fighting Irish in a match held in South Bend, Indiana in January 1974. Credit is given to Irish junior guard Dwight Clay for his final seconds shots that led to Notre Dame's victory. During the last minutes of the game, the Bruins were observed to be in a panic and was sabotaged by four turnovers. Irish coach Digger Phelps has planned changes to his strategy against UCLA by switching to a man-to-man defense.
