Oncology has emerged as a crucial field of study in the domain of medicine. Computed tomography has gained widespread adoption as a radiological modality for the identification and characterisation of pathologies, particularly in oncology, enabling precise identification of affected organs and tissues. However, achieving accurate liver segmentation in computed tomography scans remains a challenge due to the presence of artefacts and the varying densities of soft tissues and adjacent organs. This paper compares artificial intelligence algorithms and traditional medical image processing techniques to assist radiologists in liver segmentation in computed tomography scans and evaluates their accuracy and efficiency. Despite notable progress in the field, the limited availability of public datasets remains a significant barrier to broad participation in research studies and replication of methodologies. Future directions should focus on increasing the accessibility of public datasets, establishing standardised evaluation metrics, and advancing the development of three-dimensional segmentation techniques. In addition, maintaining a collaborative relationship between technological advances and medical expertise is essential to ensure that these innovations not only achieve technical accuracy, but also remain aligned with clinical needs and realities. The wrist is one of the most complex joints in our body, composed of eight bones. Therefore, measuring the angles of this intricate wrist movement can prove valuable in various fields such as sports analysis and rehabilitation. Textile stretch sensors can be easily produced by immersing an E-band in a SWCNT solution. The lightweight, cost-effective, and reproducible nature of textile stretch sensors makes them well suited for practical applications in clothing. In this paper, wrist angles were measured by attaching textile stretch sensors to an arm sleeve. Three sensors were utilized to measure all three axes of the wrist. Additionally, sensor precision was heightened through the utilization of the Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP) technique, a subtype of deep learning. Rather than fixing the measurement values of each sensor to specific axes, we created an algorithm utilizing the coupling between sensors, allowing the measurement of wrist angles in three dimensions. Using this algorithm, the error angle of wrist angles measured with textile stretch sensors could be measured at less than 4.5°. The rapid development of the logistics industry poses significant challenges to the sorting work within this sector. The fast and precise identification of moving express parcels holds immense significance for the performance of logistics sorting systems. This paper proposes a motion express parcel positioning algorithm that combines traditional vision and AI-based vision. In the traditional vision aspect, we employ a brightness-based traditional visual parcel detection algorithm. In the AI vision aspect, we introduce a Convolutional Block Attention Module (CBAM) and Focal-EIoU to enhance YOLOv5, improving the model's recall rate and robustness. Additionally, we adopt an Optimal Transport Assignment (OTA) label assignment strategy to provide a training dataset based on global optimality for the model training phase. Our experimental results demonstrate that our modified AI model surpasses traditional algorithms in both parcel recognition accuracy and inference speed. In RSSI-based indoor visible light positioning systems, when only RSSI is used for trilateral positioning, the receiver height needs to be known to calculate distance. Meanwhile, the positioning accuracy is greatly affected by multi-path effect interference, with the influence of the multi-path effect varying across different areas of the room. If only one single processing is used for positioning, the positioning error in the edge area will increase sharply. In order to address these problems, this paper proposes a new positioning scheme, which uses artificial intelligence algorithms for point classification. Firstly, height estimation is performed according to the received power data structure from different LEDs, which effectively extends the traditional RSSI trilateral positioning from 2D to 3D. The location points in the room are then divided into three categories: ordinary points, edge points and blind points, and corresponding models are used to process different types of points, respectively, to reduce the influence of the multi-path effect. Next, processed received power data are used in the trilateral positioning method for calculating the location point coordinates, and to reduce the room edge corner positioning error, so as to reduce the indoor average positioning error. Finally, a complete system is built in an experimental simulation to verify the effectiveness of the proposed schemes, which are shown to achieve centimeter-level positioning accuracy. Chip pad inspection is of great practical importance for chip alignment inspection and correction. It is one of the key technologies for automated chip inspection in semiconductor manufacturing. When applying deep learning methods for chip pad inspection, the main problem to be solved is how to ensure the accuracy of small target pad detection and, at the same time, achieve a lightweight inspection model. The attention mechanism is widely used to improve the accuracy of small target detection by finding the attention region of the network. However, conventional attention mechanisms capture feature information locally, which makes it difficult to effectively improve the detection efficiency of small targets from complex backgrounds in target detection tasks. In this paper, an OCAM (Object Convolution Attention Module) attention module is proposed to build long-range dependencies between channel features and position features by constructing feature contextual relationships to enhance the correlation between features. By adding the OCAM attention module to the feature extraction layer of the YOLOv5 network, the detection performance of chip pads is effectively improved. In addition, a design guideline for the attention layer is proposed in the paper. The attention layer is adjusted by network scaling to avoid network characterization bottlenecks, balance network parameters, and network detection performance, and reduce the hardware device requirements for the improved YOLOv5 network in practical scenarios. Extensive experiments on chip pad datasets, VOC datasets, and COCO datasets show that the approach in this paper is more general and superior to several state-of-the-art methods. Traditional path planning is mainly utilized for path planning in discrete action space, which results in incomplete ship navigation power propulsion strategies during the path search process. Moreover, reinforcement learning experiences low success rates due to its unbalanced sample collection and unreasonable design of reward function. In this paper, an environment framework is designed, which is constructed using the Box2D physics engine and employs a reward function, with the distance between the agent and arrival point as the main, and the potential field superimposed by boundary control, obstacles, and arrival point as the supplement. We also employ the state-of-the-art PPO (Proximal Policy Optimization) algorithm as a baseline for global path planning to address the issue of incomplete ship navigation power propulsion strategy. Additionally, a Beta policy-based distributed sample collection PPO algorithm is proposed to overcome the problem of unbalanced sample collection in path planning by dividing sub-regions to achieve distributed sample collection. The experimental results show the following: (1) The distributed sample collection training policy exhibits stronger robustness in the PPO algorithm; (2) The introduced Beta policy for action sampling results in a higher path planning success rate and reward accumulation than the Gaussian policy at the same training time; (3) When planning a path of the same length, the proposed Beta policy-based distributed sample collection PPO algorithm generates a smoother path than traditional path planning algorithms, such as A*, IDA*, and Dijkstra. With the progress of science and technology, artificial intelligence is widely used in various disciplines and has produced amazing results. The research of the target detection algorithm has significantly improved the performance and role of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and plays an irreplaceable role in preventing forest fires, evacuating crowded people, surveying and rescuing explorers. At this stage, the target detection algorithm deployed in UAVs has been applied to production and life, but making the detection accuracy higher and better adaptability is still the motivation for researchers to continue to study. In aerial images, due to the high shooting height, small size, low resolution and few features, it is difficult to be detected by conventional target detection algorithms. In this paper, the UN-YOLOv5s algorithm can solve the difficult problem of small target detection excellently. The more accurate small target detection (MASD) mechanism is used to greatly improve the detection accuracy of small and medium targets, The multi-scale feature fusion (MCF) path is combined to fuse the semantic information and location information of the image to improve the expression ability of the novel model. The new convolution SimAM residual (CSR) module is introduced to make the network more stable and focused. On the VisDrone dataset, the mean average precision (mAP) of UAV necessity you only look once v5s(UN-YOLOv5s) is 8.4% higher than that of the original algorithm. Compared with the same version, YOLOv5l, the mAP is increased by 2.2%, and the Giga Floating-point Operations Per Second (GFLOPs) is reduced by 65.3%. Due to subjectivity in refereeing, the results of race walking are often questioned. To overcome this limitation, artificial-intelligence-based technologies have demonstrated their potential. The paper aims at presenting WARNING, an inertial-based wearable sensor integrated with a support vector machine algorithm to automatically identify race-walking faults. Two WARNING sensors were used to gather the 3D linear acceleration related to the shanks of ten expert race-walkers. Participants were asked to perform a race circuit following three race-walking conditions: legal, illegal with loss-of-contact and illegal with knee-bent. Thirteen machine learning algorithms, belonging to the decision tree, support vector machine and k-nearest neighbor categories, were evaluated. An inter-athlete training procedure was applied. Algorithm performance was evaluated in terms of overall accuracy, F1 score and G-index, as well as by computing the prediction speed. The quadratic support vector was confirmed to be the best-performing classifier, achieving an accuracy above 90% with a prediction speed of 29,000 observations/s when considering data from both shanks. A significant reduction of the performance was assessed when considering only one lower limb side. This paper presents a real-time object-based 3D change detection method that is built around the concept of semantic object maps. The algorithm is able to maintain an object-oriented metric-semantic map of the environment and can detect object-level changes between consecutive patrol routes. The proposed 3D change detection method exploits the capabilities of the novel ZED 2 stereo camera, which integrates stereo vision and artificial intelligence (AI) to enable the development of spatial AI applications. To design the change detection algorithm and set its parameters, an extensive evaluation of the ZED 2 camera was carried out with respect to depth accuracy and consistency, visual tracking and relocalization accuracy and object detection performance. It is important to achieve the 3D reconstruction of UAV remote sensing images in deep learning-based multi-view stereo (MVS) vision. The lack of obvious texture features and detailed edges in UAV remote sensing images leads to inaccurate feature point matching or depth estimation. To address this problem, this study improves the TransMVSNet algorithm in the field of 3D reconstruction by optimizing its feature extraction network and costumed body depth prediction network. The improvement is mainly achieved by extracting features with the Asymptotic Pyramidal Network (AFPN) and assigning weights to different levels of features through the ASFF module to increase the importance of key levels and also using the UNet structured network combined with an attention mechanism to predict the depth information, which also extracts the key area information. It aims to improve the performance and accuracy of the TransMVSNet algorithm's 3D reconstruction of UAV remote sensing images. In this work, we have performed comparative experiments and quantitative evaluation with other algorithms on the DTU dataset as well as on a large UAV remote sensing image dataset. After a large number of experimental studies, it is shown that our improved TransMVSNet algorithm has better performance and robustness, providing a valuable reference for research and application in the field of 3D reconstruction of UAV remote sensing images. Imaging is one of the main tools of modern astronomy—many images are collected each day, and they must be processed. Processing such a large amount of images can be complex, time-consuming, and may require advanced tools. One of the techniques that may be employed is artificial intelligence (AI)-based image detection and classification. In this paper, the research is focused on developing such a system for the problem of the Magellan dataset, which contains 134 satellite images of Venus's surface with individual volcanoes marked with circular labels. Volcanoes are classified into four classes depending on their features. In this paper, the authors apply the You-Only-Look-Once (YOLO) algorithm, which is based on a convolutional neural network (CNN). To apply this technique, the original labels are first converted into a suitable YOLO format. Then, due to the relatively small number of images in the dataset, deterministic augmentation techniques are applied. Hyperparameters of the YOLO network are tuned to achieve the best results, which are evaluated as mean average precision (mAP@0.5) for localization accuracy and F1 score for classification accuracy. Self-collision detection is fundamental to the safe operation of multi-manipulator systems, especially when cooperating in highly dynamic working environments. Existing methods still face the problem that detection efficiency and accuracy cannot be achieved at the same time. In this paper, we introduce artificial intelligence technology into the control system. Based on the Gilbert-Johnson-Keerthi (GJK) algorithm, we generated a dataset and trained a deep neural network (DLNet) to improve the detection efficiency. By combining DLNet and the GJK algorithm, we propose a two-level self-collision detection algorithm (DLGJK algorithm) to solve real-time self-collision detection problems in a dual-manipulator system with fast-continuous and high-precision properties. First, the proposed algorithm uses DLNet to determine whether the current working state of the system has a risk of self-collision; since most of the working states in a system workspace do not have a self-collision risk, DLNet can effectively reduce the number of unnecessary detections and improve the detection efficiency. Then, for the working states with a risk of self-collision, we modeled precise colliders and applied the GJK algorithm for fine self-collision detection, which achieved detection accuracy. The experimental results showed that compared to that with the global use of the GJK algorithm for self-collision detection, the DLGJK algorithm can reduce the time expectation of a single detection in a system workspace by 97.7%. In the path planning of the manipulators, it could effectively reduce the number of unnecessary detections, improve the detection efficiency, and reduce system overhead. In this paper, a structural health monitoring (SHM) system is proposed to provide automatic early warning for detecting damage and its location in composite pipelines at an early stage. The study considers a basalt fiber reinforced polymer (BFRP) pipeline with an embedded Fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensory system and first discusses the shortcomings and challenges with incorporating FBG sensors for accurate detection of damage information in pipelines. The novelty and the main focus of this study is, however, a proposed approach that relies on designing an integrated sensing-diagnostic SHM system that has the capability to detect damage in composite pipelines at an early stage via implementation of an artificial intelligence (AI)-based algorithm combining deep learning and other efficient machine learning methods using an Enhanced Convolutional Neural Network (ECNN) without retraining the model. The proposed architecture replaces the softmax layer by a k-Nearest Neighbor (k-NN) algorithm for inference. Finite element models are developed and calibrated by the results of pipe measurements under damage tests. The models are then used to assess the patterns of the strain distributions of the pipeline under internal pressure loading and under pressure changes due to bursts, and to find the relationship of strains at different locations axially and circumferentially. A prediction algorithm for pipe damage mechanisms using distributed strain patterns is also developed. The ECNN is designed and trained to identify the condition of pipe deterioration so the initiation of damage can be detected. The strain results from the current method and the available experimental results in the literature show excellent agreement. The average error between the ECNN data and FBG sensor data is 0.093%, thus confirming the reliability and accuracy of the proposed method. Quality inspection in the industrial production field is experiencing a strong technological development that benefits from the combination of vision-based techniques with artificial intelligence algorithms. This paper initially addresses the problem of defect identification for circularly symmetric mechanical components, characterized by the presence of periodic elements. In the specific case of knurled washers, we compare the performances of a standard algorithm for the analysis of grey-scale image with a Deep Learning (DL) approach. The standard algorithm is based on the extraction of pseudo-signals derived from the conversion of the grey scale image of concentric annuli. In the DL approach, the component inspection is shifted from the entire sample to specific areas repeated along the object profile where the defect may occur. The standard algorithm provides better results in terms of accuracy and computational time with respect to the DL approach. Nevertheless, DL reaches accuracy higher than 99% when performance is evaluated targeting the identification of damaged teeth. The Internet-of-Things (IoT) massive access is a significant scenario for sixth-generation (6G) communications. However, low-power IoT devices easily suffer from remote interference caused by the atmospheric duct under the 6G time-division duplex (TDD) mode. It causes distant downlink wireless signals to propagate beyond the designed protection distance and interfere with local uplink signals, leading to a large outage probability. In this paper, a remote interference discrimination testbed is originally proposed to detect interference, which supports the comparison of different types of algorithms on the testbed. Specifically, 5,520,000 TDD network-side data collected by real sensors are used to validate the interference discrimination capabilities of nine promising AI algorithms. This paper concerns the problem of vibration reduction during milling. For this purpose, it is proposed that the standard supports of the workpiece be replaced with adjustable stiffness supports. This affects the modal parameters of the whole system, i.e., object and its supports, which is essential from the point of view of the relative tool–workpiece vibrations. To reduce the vibration level during milling, it is necessary to appropriately set the support stiffness coefficients, which are obtained from numerous milling process simulations. The simulations utilize the model of the workpiece with adjustable supports in the convention of a Finite Element Model (FEM) and a dynamic model of the milling process. The FEM parameters are tuned based on modal tests of the actual workpiece. For assessing simulation results, the proper indicator of vibration level must be selected, which is also discussed in the paper. However, simulating the milling process is time consuming and the total number of simulations needed to search the entire available range of support stiffness coefficients is large. To overcome this issue, the artificial intelligence salp swarm algorithm is used. Finally, for the best combination of stiffness coefficients, the vibration reduction is obtained and a significant reduction in search time for determining the support settings makes the approach proposed in the paper attractive from the point of view of practical applications. At the beginning of a project or research that involves the issue of autonomous navigation of mobile robots, a decision must be made about working with traditional control algorithms or algorithms based on artificial intelligence. This decision is not usually easy, as the computational capacity of the robot, the availability of information through its sensory systems and the characteristics of the environment must be taken into consideration. For this reason, this work focuses on a review of different autonomous-navigation algorithms applied to mobile robots, from which the most suitable ones have been identified for the cases in which the robot must navigate in dynamic environments. Based on the identified algorithms, a comparison of these traditional and DRL-based algorithms was made, using a robotic platform to evaluate their performance, identify their advantages and disadvantages and provide a recommendation for their use, according to the development requirements of the robot. In order to deal with these data close to the source, the term Edge Computing arises. The main objective is to address the limitations of cloud processing and satisfy the growing demand for applications and services that require low latency, greater efficiency and real-time response capabilities. Furthermore, it is essential to underscore the intrinsic connection between artificial intelligence and edge computing within the context of our study. This integral relationship not only addresses the challenges posed by data proliferation but also propels a transformative wave of innovation, shaping a new era of data processing capabilities at the network's edge. Edge devices can perform real-time data analysis and make autonomous decisions without relying on constant connectivity to the cloud. This article aims at analysing and comparing Edge Computing devices when artificial intelligence algorithms are deployed on them. To this end, a detailed experiment involving various edge devices, models and metrics is conducted. In addition, we will observe how artificial intelligence accelerators such as Tensor Processing Unit behave. This analysis seeks to respond to the choice of a device that best suits the necessary AI requirements. The intelligent transportation system (ITS) is inseparable from people's lives, and the development of artificial intelligence has made intelligent video surveillance systems more widely used. In practical traffic scenarios, the detection and tracking of vehicle targets is an important core aspect of intelligent surveillance systems and has become a hot topic of research today. However, in practical applications, there is a wide variety of targets and often interference factors such as occlusion, while a single sensor is unable to collect a wealth of information. In this paper, we propose an improved data matching method to fuse the video information obtained from the camera with the millimetre-wave radar information for the alignment and correlation of multi-target data in the spatial dimension, in order to address the problem of poor recognition alignment caused by mutual occlusion between vehicles and external environmental disturbances in intelligent transportation systems. The spatio-temporal alignment of the two sensors is first performed to determine the conversion relationship between the radar and pixel coordinate systems, and the calibration on the timeline is performed by Lagrangian interpolation. An improved Hausdorff distance matching algorithm is proposed for the data dimension to calculate the similarity between the data collected by the two sensors, to determine whether they are state descriptions of the same target, and to match the data with high similarity to delineate the region of interest (ROI) for target vehicle detection. In recent years, infrared thermographic (IRT) technology has experienced notable advancements and found widespread applications in various fields, such as renewable industry, electronic industry, construction, aviation, and healthcare. IRT technology is used for defect detection due to its non-contact, efficient, and high-resolution methods, which enhance product quality and reliability. This review offers an overview of active IRT principles. It comprehensively examines four categories based on the type of heat sources employed: pulsed thermography (PT), lock-in thermography (LT), ultrasonically stimulated vibration thermography (UVT), and eddy current thermography (ECT). Furthermore, the review explores the application of IRT imaging in the renewable energy sector, with a specific focus on the photovoltaic (PV) industry. The integration of IRT imaging and deep learning techniques presents an efficient and highly accurate solution for detecting defects in PV panels, playing a critical role in monitoring and maintaining PV energy systems. In addition, the application of infrared thermal imaging technology in electronic industry is reviewed. In the development and manufacturing of electronic products, IRT imaging is used to assess the performance and thermal characteristics of circuit boards. It aids in detecting potential material and manufacturing defects, ensuring product quality. Furthermore, the research discusses algorithmic detection for PV panels, the excitation sources used in electronic industry inspections, and infrared wavelengths. Finally, the review analyzes the advantages and challenges of IRT imaging concerning excitation sources, the PV industry, the electronics industry, and artificial intelligence (AI). Deep learning has achieved remarkably positive results and impacts on medical diagnostics in recent years. Due to its use in several proposals, deep learning has reached sufficient accuracy to implement; however, the algorithms are black boxes that are hard to understand, and model decisions are often made without reason or explanation. To reduce this gap, explainable artificial intelligence (XAI) offers a huge opportunity to receive informed decision support from deep learning models and opens the black box of the method. We conducted an explainable deep learning method based on ResNet152 combined with Grad–CAM for endoscopy image classification. We used an open-source KVASIR dataset that consisted of a total of 8000 wireless capsule images. The heat map of the classification results and an efficient augmentation method achieved a high positive result with 98.28% training and 93.46% validation accuracy in terms of medical image classification. This research combines the application of artificial intelligence in the production equipment fault monitoring of aerospace components. It detects three-phase current abnormalities in large hot-pressing furnaces through smart meters and provides early preventive maintenance. Different anomalies are classified, and a suitable monitoring process algorithm is proposed to improve the overall monitoring quality, accuracy, and stability by applying AI. We also designed a system to present the heater's power consumption and the hot-pressing furnace's fan and visualize the process. Combining artificial intelligence with the experience and technology of professional technicians and researchers to detect and proactively grasp the health of the hot-pressing furnace equipment improves the shortcomings of previous expert systems, achieves long-term stability, and reduces costs. Computing has undergone a significant transformation over the past two decades, shifting from a machine-based approach to a human-centric, virtually invisible service known as ubiquitous or pervasive computing. This change has been achieved by incorporating small embedded devices into a larger computational system, connected through networking and referred to as edge devices. When these devices are also connected to the Internet, they are generally named Internet-of-Thing (IoT) devices. Developing Machine Learning (ML) algorithms on these types of devices allows them to provide Artificial Intelligence (AI) inference functions such as computer vision, pattern recognition, etc. However, this capability is severely limited by the device's resource scarcity. Embedded devices have limited computational and power resources available while they must maintain a high degree of autonomy. While there are several published studies that address the computational weakness of these small systems-mostly through optimization and compression of neural networks- they often neglect the power consumption and efficiency implications of these techniques. This study presents power efficiency experimental results from the application of well-known and proven optimization methods using a set of well-known ML models. The results are presented in a meaningful manner considering the "real world" functionality of devices and the provided results are compared with the basic "idle" power consumption of each of the selected systems. Two different systems with completely different architectures and capabilities were used providing us with results that led to interesting conclusions related to the power efficiency of each architecture. Nature-inspired artificial intelligence algorithms have been applied to color image quantization (CIQ) for some time. Among these algorithms, the particle swarm optimization algorithm (PSO-CIQ) and its numerous modifications are important in CIQ. In this article, the usefulness of such a modification, labeled IDE-PSO-CIQ and additionally using the idea of individual difference evolution based on the emotional states of particles, is tested. The superiority of this algorithm over the PSO-CIQ algorithm was demonstrated using a set of quality indices based on pixels, patches, and superpixels. Furthermore, both algorithms studied were applied to superpixel versions of quantized images, creating color palettes in much less time. A heuristic method was proposed to select the number of superpixels, depending on the size of the palette. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithms was experimentally verified on a set of benchmark color images. The results obtained from the computational experiments indicate a multiple reduction in computation time for the superpixel methods while maintaining the high quality of the output quantized images, slightly inferior to that obtained with the pixel methods. Analyzing vibration data using deep neural networks is an effective way to detect damages in rotating machinery at an early stage. However, the black-box approach of these methods often does not provide a satisfactory solution because the cause of classifications is not comprehensible to humans. Therefore, this work investigates the application of the explainable AI (XAI) algorithms to convolutional neural networks for vibration-based condition monitoring. Thus, the three XAI algorithms GradCAM, LRP and LIME with a modified perturbation strategy are applied to classifications based on the Fourier transform as well as the order analysis of the vibration signal. The following visualization as frequency-RPM maps and order-RPM maps allows for an effective assessment of saliency values for variable periodicity of the data, which translates to a varying rotation speed of a real-world machine. To compare the explanatory power of the XAI methods, investigations are first carried out with a synthetic data set with known class-specific characteristics. Both a visual and a quantitative analysis of the resulting saliency maps are presented. Then, a real-world data set for vibration-based imbalance classification on an electric motor, which runs at a broad range of rotation speeds, is used. The results indicate that the investigated algorithms are each partially successful in providing sample-specific saliency maps which highlight class-specific features and omit features which are not relevant for classification. With the continuous development of artificial intelligence and computer vision technology, autonomous vehicles have developed rapidly. Although self-driving vehicles have achieved good results in normal environments, driving in adverse weather can still pose a challenge to driving safety. To improve the detection ability of self-driving vehicles in harsh environments, we first construct a new color levels offset compensation model to perform adaptive color levels correction on images, which can effectively improve the clarity of targets in adverse weather and facilitate the detection and recognition of targets. Then, we compare several common one-stage target detection algorithms and improve on the best-performing YOLOv5 algorithm. We optimize the parameters of the Backbone of the YOLOv5 algorithm by increasing the number of model parameters and incorporating the Transformer and CBAM into the YOLOv5 algorithm. At the same time, we use the loss function of EIOU to replace the loss function of the original CIOU. Finally, through the ablation experiment comparison, the improved algorithm improves the detection rate of the targets, with the mAP reaching 94.7% and the FPS being 199.86. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

With the development of artificial intelligence technology, the behavior decision-making of an intelligent smart marine autonomous surface ship (SMASS) has become particularly important. This research proposed local path planning and a behavior decision-making approach based on improved Proximal Policy Optimization (PPO), which could drive an unmanned SMASS to the target without requiring any human experiences. In addition, a generalized advantage estimation was added to the loss function of the PPO algorithm, which allowed baselines in PPO algorithms to be self-adjusted. At first, the SMASS was modeled with the Nomoto model in a simulation waterway. Then, distances, obstacles, and prohibited areas were regularized as rewards or punishments, which were used to judge the performance and manipulation decisions of the vessel Subsequently, improved PPO was introduced to learn the action–reward model, and the neural network model after training was used to manipulate the SMASS's movement. To achieve higher reward values, the SMASS could find an appropriate path or navigation strategy by itself. After a sufficient number of rounds of training, a convincing path and manipulation strategies would likely be produced. Compared with the proposed approach of the existing methods, this approach is more effective in self-learning and continuous optimization and thus closer to human manipulation. Zero velocity update (ZUPT) plays an important role in pedestrian navigation algorithms with the premise that the zero velocity interval (ZVI) should be detected accurately and effectively. A novel adaptive ZVI detection algorithm based on a smoothed pseudoWigner-Ville distribution to remove multiple frequencies intelligently (SPWVD-RMFI) is proposed in this paper. The novel algorithm adopts the SPWVD-RMFI method to extract the pedestrian gait frequency and to calculate the optimal ZVI detection threshold in real time by establishing the function relationships between the thresholds and the gait frequency; then, the adaptive adjustment of thresholds with gait frequency is realized and improves the ZVI detection precision. To put it into practice, a ZVI detection experiment is carried out; the result shows that compared with the traditional fixed threshold ZVI detection method, the adaptive ZVI detection algorithm can effectively reduce the false and missed detection rate of ZVI; this indicates that the novel algorithm has high detection precision and good robustness. Furthermore, pedestrian trajectory positioning experiments at different walking speeds are carried out to evaluate the influence of the novel algorithm on positioning precision. With the continuous development of artificial intelligence, embedding object detection algorithms into autonomous underwater detectors for marine garbage cleanup has become an emerging application area. Considering the complexity of the marine environment and the low resolution of the images taken by underwater detectors, this paper proposes an improved algorithm based on Mask R-CNN, with the aim of achieving high accuracy marine garbage detection and instance segmentation. First, the idea of dilated convolution is introduced in the Feature Pyramid Network to enhance feature extraction ability for small objects. Secondly, the spatial-channel attention mechanism is used to make features learn adaptively. It can effectively focus attention on detection objects. Third, the re-scoring branch is added to improve the accuracy of instance segmentation by scoring the predicted masks based on the method of Generalized Intersection over Union. Finally, we train the proposed algorithm in this paper on the Transcan dataset, evaluating its effectiveness by various metrics and comparing it with existing algorithms. The experimental results show that compared to the baseline provided by the Transcan dataset, the algorithm in this paper improves the mAP indexes on the two tasks of garbage detection and instance segmentation by 9.6 and 5.0, respectively, which significantly improves the algorithm performance. This paper presents a sensor system for robot localization based on the information obtained from a single camera attached in a fixed place external to the robot. Our approach firstly obtains the 3D geometrical model of the robot based on the projection of its natural appearance in the camera while the robot performs an initialization trajectory. This paper proposes a structure-from-motion solution that uses the odometry sensors inside the robot as a metric reference. Secondly, an online localization method based on a sequential Bayesian inference is proposed, which uses the geometrical model of the robot as a link between image measurements and pose estimation. The online approach is resistant to hard occlusions and the experimental setup proposed in this paper shows its effectiveness in real situations. We live in a period when smart devices gather a large amount of data from a variety of sensors and it is often the case that decisions are taken based on them in a more or less autonomous manner. Still, many of the inputs do not prove to be essential in the decision-making process; hence, it is of utmost importance to find the means of eliminating the noise and concentrating on the most influential attributes. In this sense, we put forward a method based on the swarm intelligence paradigm for extracting the most important features from several datasets. The thematic of this paper is a novel implementation of an algorithm from the swarm intelligence branch of the machine learning domain for improving feature selection. The combination of machine learning with the metaheuristic approaches has recently created a new branch of artificial intelligence called learnheuristics. This approach benefits both from the capability of feature selection to find the solutions that most impact on accuracy and performance, as well as the well known characteristic of swarm intelligence algorithms to efficiently comb through a large search space of solutions. The latter is used as a wrapper method in feature selection and the improvements are significant. In this paper, a modified version of the salp swarm algorithm for feature selection is proposed. This solution is verified by 21 datasets with the classification model of K-nearest neighborhoods. Furthermore, the performance of the algorithm is compared to the best algorithms with the same test setup resulting in better number of features and classification accuracy for the proposed solution. The efficient mining of deep space is inseparable from movable and flexible production and transportation equipment such as scrapers. In the new era, intelligence is leading to the development trend of scraper (LHD), path tracking control is the key to the intelligent scraper (LHD), and it is also an urgent problem to be solved for unmanned driving. This paper describes the realization of the automatic operation of articulating the scraper (LHD) from two aspects, a mathematical model and trajectory tracking control method, and it focuses on the research of the path tracking control scheme in the field of unmanned driving, that is, an LQR controller. On this basis, combined with different intelligent clustering algorithms, the parameters of the LQR controller are optimized to find the optimal solution of the LQR controller. Then, the path tracking control of an intelligent LHD unmanned driving technology is studied, focusing on the optimization of linear quadratic optimal control (LQR) and the intelligent cluster algorithms AGA, QPSO, and ACA; this research has great significance for the development of the intelligent scraper (LHD). In a future intelligent factory, a robotic manipulator must work efficiently and safely in a Human–Robot collaborative and dynamic unstructured environment. Autonomous path planning is the most important issue which must be resolved first in the process of improving robotic manipulator intelligence. Among the path-planning methods, the Rapidly Exploring Random Tree (RRT) algorithm based on random sampling has been widely applied in dynamic path planning for a high-dimensional robotic manipulator, especially in a complex environment because of its probability completeness, perfect expansion, and fast exploring speed over other planning methods. However, the existing RRT algorithm has a limitation in path planning for a robotic manipulator in a dynamic unstructured environment. Therefore, an autonomous obstacle avoidance dynamic path-planning method for a robotic manipulator based on an improved RRT algorithm, called Smoothly RRT (S-RRT), is proposed. This method that targets a directional node extends and can increase the sampling speed and efficiency of RRT dramatically. A path optimization strategy based on the maximum curvature constraint is presented to generate a smooth and curved continuous executable path for a robotic manipulator. Finally, the correctness, effectiveness, and practicability of the proposed method are demonstrated and validated via a MATLAB static simulation and a Robot Operating System (ROS) dynamic simulation environment as well as a real autonomous obstacle avoidance experiment in a dynamic unstructured environment for a robotic manipulator. The proposed method not only provides great practical engineering significance for a robotic manipulator’s obstacle avoidance in an intelligent factory, but also theoretical reference value for other type of robots’ path planning. Inertial Navigation Systems (INS) consist of accelerometers, gyroscopes and a processor that generates position and orientation solutions by integrating the specific forces and rotation rates. In addition to the accelerometers and gyroscopes, magnetometers can be used to derive the user heading based on Earth's magnetic field. Unfortunately, the measurements of the magnetic field obtained with low cost sensors are usually corrupted by several errors, including manufacturing defects and external electro-magnetic fields. Consequently, proper calibration of the magnetometer is required to achieve high accuracy heading measurements. In this paper, a Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO)-based calibration algorithm is presented to estimate the values of the bias and scale factor of low cost magnetometers. The main advantage of this technique is the use of the artificial intelligence which does not need any error modeling or awareness of the nonlinearity. Furthermore, the proposed algorithm can help in the development of Pedestrian Navigation Devices (PNDs) when combined with inertial sensors and GPS/Wi-Fi for indoor navigation and Location Based Services (LBS) applications. When every piece of data and device is connected and obtainable on the network, hackers can obtain it and utilise it for different scams. In medical healthcare IoT-CPS, everyday medical and physical data of a patient may be gathered through wearable sensors. This paper proposes an AI-enabled IoT-CPS which doctors can utilise to discover diseases in patients based on AI. AI was created to find a few disorders such as Diabetes, Heart disease and Gait disturbances. Each disease has various symptoms among patients or elderly. Dataset is retrieved from the Kaggle repository to execute AI-enabled IoT-CPS technology. For the classification, AI-enabled IoT-CPS Algorithm is used to discover diseases. To equip computers with human communication skills and to enable natural interaction between the computer and a human, intelligent solutions are required based on artificial intelligence (AI) methods, algorithms, and sensor technology. This study aimed at identifying and analyzing the state-of-the-art AI methods and algorithms and sensors technology in existing human–computer intelligent interaction (HCII) research to explore trends in HCII research, categorize existing evidence, and identify potential directions for future research. We conduct a systematic mapping study of the HCII body of research. Four hundred fifty-four studies published in various journals and conferences between 2010 and 2021 were identified and analyzed. Studies in the HCII and IUI fields have primarily been focused on intelligent recognition of emotion, gestures, and facial expressions using sensors technology, such as the camera, EEG, Kinect, wearable sensors, eye tracker, gyroscope, and others. Researchers most often apply deep-learning and instance-based AI methods and algorithms. The support sector machine (SVM) is the most widely used algorithm for various kinds of recognition, primarily an emotion, facial expression, and gesture. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the revolutionary paradigm to empower sixth generation (6G) edge computing based e-healthcare for everyone. Thus, this research aims to promote an AI-based cost-effective and efficient healthcare application. The cyber physical system (CPS) is a key player in the internet world where humans and their personal devices such as cell phones, laptops, wearables, etc., facilitate the healthcare environment. The data extracting, examining and monitoring strategies from sensors and actuators in the entire medical landscape are facilitated by cloud-enabled technologies for absorbing and accepting the entire emerging wave of revolution. The efficient and accurate examination of voluminous data from the sensor devices poses restrictions in terms of bandwidth, delay and energy. Due to the heterogeneous nature of the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT), the driven healthcare system must be smart, interoperable, convergent, and reliable to provide pervasive and cost-effective healthcare platforms. Unfortunately, because of higher power consumption and lesser packet delivery rate, achieving interoperable, convergent, and reliable transmission is challenging in connected healthcare. In such a scenario, this paper has fourfold major contributions. The first contribution is the development of a single chip wearable electrocardiogram (ECG) with the support of an analog front end (AFE) chip model (i.e., ADS1292R) for gathering the ECG data to examine the health status of elderly or chronic patients with the IoT-based cyber physical system (CPS). The second proposes a fuzzy-based sustainable, interoperable, and reliable algorithm (FSIRA), which is an intelligent and self-adaptive decision-making approach to prioritize emergency and critical patients in association with the selected parameters for improving healthcare quality at reasonable costs. The third is the proposal of a specific cloud-based architecture for mobile and connected healthcare. The fourth is the identification of the right balance between reliability, packet loss ratio, convergence, latency, interoperability, and throughput to support an adaptive IoMT driven connected healthcare. It is examined and observed that our proposed approaches outperform the conventional techniques by providing high reliability, high convergence, interoperability, and a better foundation to analyze and interpret the accuracy in systems from a medical health aspect. As for the IoMT, an enabled healthcare cloud is the key ingredient on which to focus, as it also faces the big hurdle of less bandwidth, more delay and energy drain. Connected autonomous vehicles can leverage communication and artificial intelligence technologies to effectively overcome the perceived limitations of individuals and enhance driving safety and stability. However, due to the high dynamics of the vehicular network and frequent interruptions and handovers, it is still challenging to provide stable communication connections between vehicles, which is likely to cause disasters. To address this issue, in this paper, we propose an intelligent clustering mechanism based on driving patterns in heterogeneous Cognitive Internet of Vehicles (CIoVs). In the proposed approach, we analyze the driving mode containing multiple feature parameters to accurately capture the driving characteristics. To ensure the accuracy of pattern recognition, a genetic algorithm-based neural network pattern recognition algorithm is proposed to support the reliable clustering of connected autonomous vehicles. The cognitive engines recognize the driving modes to group vehicles with a similar driving mode into a relatively stable cluster. In addition, we formulate the stability and survival time of clusters and analyze the communication performance of the clustering mechanism. Simulation results show that the proposed mechanism improves the reliable communication throughput and average cluster lifetime by approximately 14.4% and 11.5% respectively compared to the state-of-the-art approaches. Autonomous mobile robots are usually faced with challenging situations when driving in complex environments. Namely, they have to recognize the static and dynamic obstacles, plan the driving path and execute their motion. For addressing the issue of perception and path planning, in this paper, we introduce OctoPath, which is an encoder-decoder deep neural network, trained in a self-supervised manner to predict the local optimal trajectory for the ego-vehicle. Using the discretization provided by a 3D octree environment model, our approach reformulates trajectory prediction as a classification problem with a configurable resolution. During training, OctoPath minimizes the error between the predicted and the manually driven trajectories in a given training dataset. This allows us to avoid the pitfall of regression-based trajectory estimation, in which there is an infinite state space for the output trajectory points. Environment sensing is performed using a 40-channel mechanical LiDAR sensor, fused with an inertial measurement unit and wheels odometry for state estimation. The experiments are performed both in simulation and real-life, using our own developed GridSim simulator and RovisLab's Autonomous Mobile Test Unit platform. We evaluate the predictions of OctoPath in different driving scenarios, both indoor and outdoor, while benchmarking our system against a baseline hybrid A-Star algorithm and a regression-based supervised learning method, as well as against a CNN learning-based optimal path planning method. Text document clustering refers to the unsupervised classification of textual documents into clusters based on content similarity and can be applied in applications such as search optimization and extracting hidden information from data generated by IoT sensors. Swarm intelligence (SI) algorithms use stochastic and heuristic principles that include simple and unintelligent individuals that follow some simple rules to accomplish very complex tasks. By mapping features of problems to parameters of SI algorithms, SI algorithms can achieve solutions in a flexible, robust, decentralized, and self-organized manner. Compared to traditional clustering algorithms, these solving mechanisms make swarm algorithms suitable for resolving complex document clustering problems. However, each SI algorithm shows a different performance based on its own strengths and weaknesses. In this paper, to find the best performing SI algorithm in text document clustering, we performed a comparative study for the PSO, bat, grey wolf optimization (GWO), and K-means algorithms using six data sets of various sizes, which were created from BBC Sport news and 20 newsgroups. Based on our experimental results, we discuss the features of a document clustering problem with the nature of SI algorithms and conclude that the PSO and GWO SI algorithms are better than K-means, and among those algorithms, the PSO performs best in terms of finding the optimal solution. With the development of autonomous unmanned intelligent systems, such as the unmanned boats, unmanned planes and autonomous underwater vehicles, studies on Wireless Sensor-Actor Networks (WSANs) have attracted more attention. Network connectivity algorithms play an important role in data exchange, collaborative detection and information fusion. Due to the harsh application environment, abnormal nodes often appear, and the network connectivity will be prone to be lost. Network self-healing mechanisms have become critical for these systems. In order to decrease the movement overhead of the sensor-actor nodes, an autonomous connectivity restoration algorithm based on finite state machine is proposed. The idea is to identify whether a node is a critical node by using a finite state machine, and update the connected dominating set in a timely way. If an abnormal node is a critical node, the nearest non-critical node will be relocated to replace the abnormal node. In the case of multiple node abnormality, a regional network restoration algorithm is introduced. It is designed to reduce the overhead of node movements while restoration happens. Simulation results indicate the proposed algorithm has better performance on the total moving distance and the number of total relocated nodes compared with some other representative restoration algorithms. Recent advancements in cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and the internet of things (IoT) create new opportunities for autonomous industrial environments monitoring. Nevertheless, detecting anomalies in harsh industrial settings remains challenging. This paper proposes an edge-fog-cloud architecture with mobile IoT edge nodes carried on autonomous robots for thermal anomalies detection in aluminum factories. We use companion drones as fog nodes to deliver first response services and a cloud back-end for thermal anomalies analysis. We also propose a self-driving deep learning architecture and a thermal anomalies detection and visualization algorithm. Our results show our robot surveyors are low-cost, deliver reduced response time, and more accurately detect anomalies compared to human surveyors or fixed IoT nodes monitoring the same industrial area. Our self-driving architecture has a root mean square error of 0.19 comparable to VGG-19 with a significantly reduced complexity and three times the frame rate at 60 frames per second. Internet of Things (IoT) is becoming a new socioeconomic revolution in which data and immediacy are the main ingredients. IoT generates large datasets on a daily basis but it is currently considered as "dark data", i.e., data generated but never analyzed. The efficient analysis of this data is mandatory to create intelligent applications for the next generation of IoT applications that benefits society. Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques are very well suited to identifying hidden patterns and correlations in this data deluge. In particular, clustering algorithms are of the utmost importance for performing exploratory data analysis to identify a set (a.k.a., cluster) of similar objects. Clustering algorithms are computationally heavy workloads and require to be executed on high-performance computing clusters, especially to deal with large datasets. This execution on HPC infrastructures is an energy hungry procedure with additional issues, such as high-latency communications or privacy. Edge computing is a paradigm to enable light-weight computations at the edge of the network that has been proposed recently to solve these issues. In this paper, we provide an in-depth analysis of emergent edge computing architectures that include low-power Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) to speed-up these workloads. Our analysis includes performance and power consumption figures of the latest Nvidia's AGX Xavier to compare the energy-performance ratio of these low-cost platforms with a high-performance cloud-based counterpart version. Three different clustering algorithms (i.e., k-means, Fuzzy Minimals (FM), and Fuzzy C-Means (FCM)) are designed to be optimally executed on edge and cloud platforms, showing a speed-up factor of up to 11 × for the GPU code compared to sequential counterpart versions in the edge platforms and energy savings of up to 150% between the edge computing and HPC platforms. With the rapid development of wireless sensor networks (WSNs) technology, a growing number of applications and services need to acquire the states of channels or sensors, especially in order to use these states for monitoring, object tracking, motion detection, etc. A critical issue in WSNs is the ability to estimate the source parameters from the readings of a distributed sensor network. Although there are several studies on channel estimation (CE) algorithms, existing algorithms are all flawed with their high complexity, inability to scale, inability to ensure the convergence to a local optimum, low speed of convergence, etc. In this work, we turn to variational inference (VI) with tempering to solve the channel estimation problem due to its ability to reduce complexity, ability to generalize and scale, and guarantee of local optimum. To the best of our knowledge we are the first to use VI with tempering for advanced channel estimation. The parameters that we consider in the channel estimation problem include pilot signal and channel coefficients, assuming there is orthogonal access between different sensors (or users) and the data fusion center (or receiving center). By formulating the channel estimation problem into a probabilistic graphical model, the proposed Channel Estimation Variational Tempering Inference (CEVTI) approach can estimate the channel coefficient and the transmitted signal in a low-complexity manner while guaranteeing convergence. CEVTI can find out the optimal hyper-parameters of channels with fast convergence rate, and can be applied to the case of code division multiple access (CDMA) and uplink massive multi-input-multi-output (MIMO) easily. Simulations show that CEVTI has higher accuracy than state-of-the-art algorithms under different noise variance and signal-to-noise ratio. Furthermore, the results show that the more parameters are considered in each iteration, the faster the convergence rate and the lower the non-degenerate bit error rate with CEVTI. Analysis shows that CEVTI has satisfying computational complexity, and guarantees a better local optimum. Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are increasingly gaining popularity, especially with the advent of many artificial intelligence (AI) driven applications and expert systems. Such applications require specific relevant sensors' data to be stored, processed, analyzed, and input to the expert systems. Obviously, sensor nodes (SNs) have limited energy and computation capabilities and are normally deployed remotely over an area of interest (AoI). Therefore, proposing efficient protocols for sensing and sending data is paramount to WSNs operation. Nodes' clustering is a widely used technique in WSNs, where the sensor nodes are grouped into clusters. Each cluster has a cluster head (CH) that is used to gather captured data of sensor nodes and forward it to a remote sink node for further processing and decision-making. In this paper, an optimization algorithm for adjusting the CH location with respect to the nodes within the cluster is proposed. This algorithm aims at finding the optimal CH location that minimizes the total sum of the nodes' path-loss incurred within the intra-cluster communication links between the sensor nodes and the CH. Once the optimal CH is identified, the CH moves to the optimal location. This suggestion of CH re-positioning is frequently repeated for new geometric position. Excitingly, the algorithm is extended to consider the inter-cluster communication between CH nodes belonging to different clusters and distributed over a spiral trajectory. These CH nodes form a multi-hop communication link that convey the captured data of the clusters' nodes to the sink destination node. The performance of the proposed CH positioning algorithm for the single and multi-clusters has been evaluated and compared with other related studies. For a safe market launch of automated vehicles, the risks of the overall system as well as the sub-components must be efficiently identified and evaluated. This also includes camera-based object detection using artificial intelligence algorithms. It is trivial and explainable that due to the principle of the camera, performance depends highly on the environmental conditions and can be poor, for example in heavy fog. However, there are other factors influencing the performance of camera-based object detection, which will be comprehensively investigated for the first time in this paper. Furthermore, a precise modeling of the detection performance and the explanation of individual detection results is not possible due to the artificial intelligence based algorithms used. Therefore, a modeling approach based on the investigated influence factors is proposed and the newly developed SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) approach is adopted to analyze and explain the detection performance of different object detection algorithms. The results show that many influence factors such as the relative rotation of an object towards the camera or the position of an object on the image have basically the same influence on the detection performance regardless of the detection algorithm used. In particular, the revealed weaknesses of the tested object detectors can be used to derive challenging and critical scenarios for the testing and type approval of automated vehicles. With the continuing advancements in technologies (such as machine to machine, wireless telecommunications, artificial intelligence, and big data analysis), the Internet of Things (IoT) aims to connect everything for information sharing and intelligent decision-making. Swarm intelligence (SI) provides the possibility of SI behavior through collaboration in individuals that have limited or no intelligence. Its potential parallelism and distribution characteristics can be used to realize global optimization and solve nonlinear complex problems. This paper reviews representative SI algorithms and summarizes their applications in the IoT. The main focus consists in the analysis of SI-enabled applications to wireless sensor network (WSN) and discussion of related research problems in the WSN. Smile and Learn is an Ed-Tech company that runs a smart library with more that 100 applications, games and interactive stories, aimed at children aged two to 10 and their families. The platform gathers thousands of data points from the interaction with the system to subsequently offer reports and recommendations. Given the complexity of navigating all the content, the library implements a recommender system. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate two aspects of such system focused on children: the influence of the order of recommendations on user exploratory behavior, and the impact of the choice of the recommendation algorithm on engagement. The assessment, based on data collected between 15 October 2018 and 1 December 2018, required the analysis of the number of clicks performed on the recommendations depending on their ordering, and an A/B/C testing where two standard recommendation algorithms were compared with a random recommendation that served as baseline. The results suggest a direct connection between the order of the recommendation and the interest raised, and the superiority of recommendations based on popularity against other alternatives. Digital twin (DT) and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies have grown rapidly in recent years and are considered by both academia and industry to be key enablers for Industry 4.0. As a digital replica of a physical entity, the basis of DT is the infrastructure and data, the core is the algorithm and model, and the application is the software and service. The grounding of DT and AI in industrial sectors is even more dependent on the systematic and in-depth integration of domain-specific expertise. This survey comprehensively reviews over 300 manuscripts on AI-driven DT technologies of Industry 4.0 used over the past five years and summarizes their general developments and the current state of AI-integration in the fields of smart manufacturing and advanced robotics. These cover conventional sophisticated metal machining and industrial automation as well as emerging techniques, such as 3D printing and human–robot interaction/cooperation. Furthermore, advantages of AI-driven DTs in the context of sustainable development are elaborated. Practical challenges and development prospects of AI-driven DTs are discussed with a respective focus on different levels. The international roughness index (IRI) for roads is a crucial pavement design criterion in the Mechanistic-Empirical Pavement Design Guide (MEPDG). However, studies have shown that the IRI transfer function in the MEPDG is simply a linear combination of road parameters, so it cannot provide accurate predictions. To solve this issue, this research developed an AdaBoost regression (ABR) model to improve the prediction ability of IRI and compared it with the linear regression (LR) in MEPDG. The development of the ABR model is based on the Python programming language, using the 4265 records from the Long-Term Pavement Performance (LTPP) that include the pavement thickness, service age, average annual daily truck traffic (AADTT), gator cracks, etc., which are reliable data that are preserved after years of monitoring. The results reveal that the ABR model is significantly better than the LR because the correlation coefficient (R2) between the measured and predicted values in the testing set increased from 0.5118 to 0.9751, and the mean square error (MSE) decreased from 0.0245 to 0.0088. By analyzing the importance of variables, there are many additional crucial factors, such as raveling and bleeding, that affect IRI, which leads to the weak performance of the LR model.
