A deep-seated landslide could release numerous microseismic signals from creep-slip movement, which includes a rock-soil slip from the slope surface and a rock-soil shear rupture in the subsurface. Machine learning can effectively enhance the classification of microseismic signals in landslide seismic monitoring and interpret the mechanical processes of landslide motion. In this paper, eight sets of triaxial seismic sensors were deployed inside the deep-seated landslide, Jiuxianping, China, and a large number of microseismic signals related to the slope movement were obtained through 1-year-long continuous monitoring. All the data were passed through the seismic event identification mode, the ratio of the long-time average and short-time average. We selected 11 days of data, manually classified 4131 data into eight categories, and created a microseismic event database. Classical machine learning algorithms and ensemble learning algorithms were tested in this paper. In order to evaluate the seismic event classification performance of each algorithmic model, we evaluated the proposed algorithms through the dimensions of the accuracy, precision, and recall of each model. The validation results demonstrated that the best performing decision tree algorithm among the classical machine learning algorithms had an accuracy of 88.75%, while the ensemble algorithms, including random forest, Gradient Boosting Trees, Extreme Gradient Boosting, and Light Gradient Boosting Machine, had an accuracy range from 93.5% to 94.2% and also achieved better results in the combined evaluation of the precision, recall, and F1 score. The specific classification tests for each microseismic event category showed the same results. We live in the era of large data analysis, where processing vast datasets has become essential for uncovering valuable insights across various domains of our lives. Machine learning (ML) algorithms offer powerful tools for processing and analyzing this abundance of information. However, the considerable time and computational resources needed for training ML models pose significant challenges, especially within cascade schemes, due to the iterative nature of training algorithms, the complexity of feature extraction and transformation processes, and the large sizes of the datasets involved. This paper proposes a modification to the existing ML-based cascade scheme for analyzing large biomedical datasets by incorporating principal component analysis (PCA) at each level of the cascade. We selected the number of principal components to replace the initial inputs so that it ensured 95% variance retention. Furthermore, we enhanced the training and application algorithms and demonstrated the effectiveness of the modified cascade scheme through comparative analysis, which showcased a significant reduction in training time while improving the generalization properties of the method and the accuracy of the large data analysis. The improved enhanced generalization properties of the scheme stemmed from the reduction in nonsignificant independent attributes in the dataset, which further enhanced its performance in intelligent large data analysis. In recent years, the incidence of cardiac arrhythmias has been on the rise because of changes in lifestyle and the aging population. Electrocardiograms (ECGs) are widely used for the automated diagnosis of cardiac arrhythmias. However, existing models possess poor noise robustness and complex structures, limiting their effectiveness. To solve these problems, this paper proposes an arrhythmia recognition system with excellent anti-noise performance: a convolutionally optimized broad learning system (COBLS). In the proposed COBLS method, the signal is convolved with blind source separation using a signal analysis method based on high-order-statistic independent component analysis (ICA). The constructed feature matrix is further feature-extracted and dimensionally reduced using principal component analysis (PCA), which reveals the essence of the signal. The linear feature correlation between the data can be effectively reduced, and redundant attributes can be eliminated to obtain a low-dimensional feature matrix that retains the essential features of the classification model. Then, arrhythmia recognition is realized by combining this matrix with the broad learning system (BLS). Subsequently, the model was evaluated using the MIT-BIH arrhythmia database and the MIT-BIH noise stress test database. The outcomes of the experiments demonstrate exceptional performance, with impressive achievements in terms of the overall accuracy, overall precision, overall sensitivity, and overall F1-score. Specifically, the results indicate outstanding performance, with figures reaching 99.11% for the overall accuracy, 96.95% for the overall precision, 89.71% for the overall sensitivity, and 93.01% for the overall F1-score across all four classification experiments. Door access control systems are important to protect the security and integrity of physical spaces. Accuracy and speed are important factors that govern their performance. In this paper, we investigate a novel approach to identify users by measuring patterns of their interactions with a doorknob via an embedded accelerometer and gyroscope and by applying deep-learning-based algorithms to these measurements. Our identification results obtained from 47 users show an accuracy of 90.2%. When the sex of the user is used as an input feature, the accuracy is 89.8% in the case of male individuals and 97.0% in the case of female individuals. We study how the accuracy is affected by the sample duration, finding that is its possible to identify users using a sample of 0.5 s with an accuracy of 68.5%. Our results demonstrate the feasibility of using patterns of motor activity to provide access control, thus extending with it the set of alternatives to be considered for behavioral biometrics. Federated learning is an effective approach for preserving data privacy and security, enabling machine learning to occur in a distributed environment and promoting its development. However, an urgent problem that needs to be addressed is how to encourage active client participation in federated learning. The Shapley value, a classical concept in cooperative game theory, has been utilized for data valuation in machine learning services. Nevertheless, existing numerical evaluation schemes based on the Shapley value are impractical, as they necessitate additional model training, leading to increased communication overhead. Moreover, participants' data may exhibit Non-IID characteristics, posing a significant challenge to evaluating participant contributions. Non-IID data have greatly affected the accuracy of the global model, weakened the marginal effect of the participants, and led to the underestimated contribution measurement results of the participants. Current work often overlooks the impact of heterogeneity on model aggregation. This paper presents a fair federated learning contribution measurement scheme that addresses the need for additional model computations. By introducing a novel aggregation weight, it enhances the accuracy of the contribution measurement. Experiments on the MNIST and Fashion MNIST dataset show that the proposed method can accurately compute the contributions of participants. The annotation of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) images plays an important role in deep learning-based MRI segmentation tasks. Semi-automatic annotation algorithms are helpful for improving the efficiency and reducing the difficulty of MRI image annotation. However, the existing semi-automatic annotation algorithms based on deep learning have poor pre-annotation performance in the case of insufficient segmentation labels. In this paper, we propose a semi-automatic MRI annotation algorithm based on semi-weakly supervised learning. In order to achieve a better pre-annotation performance in the case of insufficient segmentation labels, semi-supervised and weakly supervised learning were introduced, and a semi-weakly supervised learning segmentation algorithm based on sparse labels was proposed. In addition, in order to improve the contribution rate of a single segmentation label to the performance of the pre-annotation model, an iterative annotation strategy based on active learning was designed. The experimental results on public MRI datasets show that the proposed algorithm achieved an equivalent pre-annotation performance when the number of segmentation labels was much less than that of the fully supervised learning algorithm, which proves the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. Within research on the cross-view geolocation of UAVs, differences in image sources and interference from similar scenes pose huge challenges. Inspired by multimodal machine learning, in this paper, we design a single-stream pyramid transformer network (SSPT). The backbone of the model uses the self-attention mechanism to enrich its own internal features in the early stage and uses the cross-attention mechanism in the later stage to refine and interact with different features to eliminate irrelevant interference. In addition, in the post-processing part of the model, a header module is designed for upsampling to generate heat maps, and a Gaussian weight window is designed to assign label weights to make the model converge better. Together, these methods improve the positioning accuracy of UAV images in satellite images. Finally, we also use style transfer technology to simulate various environmental changes in order to expand the experimental data, further proving the environmental adaptability and robustness of the method. The final experimental results show that our method yields significant performance improvement: The relative distance score (RDS) of the SSPT-384 model on the benchmark UL14 dataset is significantly improved from 76.25% to 84.40%, while the meter-level accuracy (MA) of 3 m, 5 m, and 20 m is increased by 12%, 12%, and 10%, respectively. For the SSPT-256 model, the RDS has been increased to 82.21%, and the meter-level accuracy (MA) of 3 m, 5 m, and 20 m has increased by 5%, 5%, and 7%, respectively. Delay-sensitive task offloading in a device-to-device assisted mobile edge computing (D2D-MEC) system with energy harvesting devices is a critical challenge due to the dynamic load level at edge nodes and the variability in harvested energy. In this paper, we propose a joint dynamic task offloading and CPU frequency control scheme for delay-sensitive tasks in a D2D-MEC system, taking into account the intricacies of multi-slot tasks, characterized by diverse processing speeds and data transmission rates. Our methodology involves meticulous modeling of task arrival and service processes using queuing systems, coupled with the strategic utilization of D2D communication to alleviate edge server load and prevent network congestion effectively. Central to our solution is the formulation of average task delay optimization as a challenging nonlinear integer programming problem, requiring intelligent decision making regarding task offloading for each generated task at active mobile devices and CPU frequency adjustments at discrete time slots. To navigate the intricate landscape of the extensive discrete action space, we design an efficient multi-agent DRL learning algorithm named MAOC, which is based on MAPPO, to minimize the average task delay by dynamically determining task-offloading decisions and CPU frequencies. MAOC operates within a centralized training with decentralized execution (CTDE) framework, empowering individual mobile devices to make decisions autonomously based on their unique system states. The advancement of machine learning in industrial applications has necessitated the development of tailored solutions to address specific challenges, particularly in multi-class classification tasks. This study delves into the customization of loss functions within the eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) algorithm, which is a critical step in enhancing the algorithm's performance for specific applications. Our research is motivated by the need for precision and efficiency in the industrial domain, where the implications of misclassification can be substantial. We focus on the drill-wear analysis of melamine-faced chipboard, a common material in furniture production, to demonstrate the impact of custom loss functions. The paper explores several variants of Weighted Softmax Loss Functions, including Edge Penalty and Adaptive Weighted Softmax Loss, to address the challenges of class imbalance and the heightened importance of accurately classifying edge classes. Our findings reveal that these custom loss functions significantly reduce critical errors in classification without compromising the overall accuracy of the model. Ship fire may result in significant damage to its structure and large economic loss. Hence, the prompt identification of fires is essential in order to provide prompt reactions and effective mitigation strategies. However, conventional detection systems exhibit limited efficacy and accuracy in detecting targets, which has been mostly attributed to limitations imposed by distance constraints and the motion of ships. Although the development of deep learning algorithms provides a potential solution, the computational complexity of ship fire detection algorithm pose significant challenges. To solve this, this paper proposes a lightweight ship fire detection algorithm based on YOLOv8n. Initially, a dataset, including more than 4000 unduplicated images and their labels, is established before training. In order to ensure the performance of algorithms, both fire inside ship rooms and also fire on board are considered. Then after tests, YOLOv8n is selected as the model with the best performance and fastest speed from among several advanced object detection algorithms. GhostnetV2-C2F is then inserted in the backbone of the algorithm for long-range attention with inexpensive operation. In addition, spatial and channel reconstruction convolution (SCConv) is used to reduce redundant features with significantly lower complexity and computational costs for real-time ship fire detection. For the neck part, omni-dimensional dynamic convolution is used for the multi-dimensional attention mechanism, which also lowers the parameters. After these improvements, a lighter and more accurate YOLOv8n algorithm, called Ship-Fire Net, was proposed. The proposed method exceeds 0.93, both in precision and recall for fire and smoke detection in ships. In addition, the mAP@0.5 reaches about 0.9. Despite the improvement in accuracy, Ship-Fire Net also has fewer parameters and lower FLOPs compared to the original, which accelerates its detection speed. Environmental effects may lead to cracking, stiffness loss, brace damage, and other damages in bridges, frame structures, buildings, etc. Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) technology could prevent catastrophic events by detecting damage early. In recent years, Deep Learning (DL) has developed rapidly and has been applied to SHM to detect, localize, and evaluate diverse damages through efficient feature extraction. This paper analyzes 337 articles through a systematic literature review to investigate the application of DL for SHM in the operation and maintenance phase of facilities from three perspectives: data, DL algorithms, and applications. Firstly, the data types in SHM and the corresponding collection methods are summarized and analyzed. The most common data types are vibration signals and images, accounting for 80% of the literature studied. Secondly, the popular DL algorithm types and application areas are reviewed, of which CNN accounts for 60%. Then, this article carefully analyzes the specific functions of DL application for SHM based on the facility's characteristics. The most scrutinized study focused on cracks, accounting for 30 percent of research papers. Finally, challenges and trends in applying DL for SHM are discussed. Among the trends, the Structural Health Monitoring Digital Twin (SHMDT) model framework is suggested in response to the trend of strong coupling between SHM technology and Digital Twin (DT), which can advance the digitalization, visualization, and intelligent management of SHM. Given that fingerprint localization methods can be effectively modeled as supervised learning problems, machine learning has been employed for indoor localization tasks based on fingerprint methods. However, it is often challenging for popular machine learning models to effectively capture the unstructured data features inherent in fingerprint data that are generated in diverse propagation environments. In this paper, we propose an indoor localization algorithm based on a high-order graph neural network (HoGNNLoc) to enhance the accuracy of indoor localization and improve localization stability in dynamic environments. The algorithm first designs an adjacency matrix based on the spatial relative locations of access points (APs) to obtain a graph structure; on this basis, a high-order graph neural network is constructed to extract and aggregate the features; finally, the designed fully connected network is used to achieve the regression prediction of the location of the target to be located. The experimental results on our self-built dataset show that the proposed algorithm achieves localization accuracy within 1.29 m at 80% of the cumulative distribution function (CDF) points. The improvements are 59.2%, 51.3%, 36.1%, and 22.7% compared to the K-nearest neighbors (KNN), deep neural network (DNN), simple graph convolutional network (SGC), and graph attention network (GAT). Moreover, even with a 30% reduction in fingerprint data, the proposed algorithm exhibits stable localization performance. The Internet of Things (IoT) and network-enabled smart devices are crucial to the digitally interconnected society of the present day. However, the increased reliance on IoT devices increases their susceptibility to malicious activities within network traffic, posing significant challenges to cybersecurity. As a result, both system administrators and end users are negatively affected by these malevolent behaviours. Intrusion-detection systems (IDSs) are commonly deployed as a cyber attack defence mechanism to mitigate such risks. IDS plays a crucial role in identifying and preventing cyber hazards within IoT networks. However, the development of an efficient and rapid IDS system for the detection of cyber attacks remains a challenging area of research. Moreover, IDS datasets contain multiple features, so the implementation of feature selection (FS) is required to design an effective and timely IDS. The FS procedure seeks to eliminate irrelevant and redundant features from large IDS datasets, thereby improving the intrusion-detection system's overall performance. In this paper, we propose a hybrid wrapper-based feature-selection algorithm that is based on the concepts of the Cellular Automata (CA) engine and Tabu Search (TS)-based aspiration criteria. We used a Random Forest (RF) ensemble learning classifier to evaluate the fitness of the selected features. The proposed algorithm, CAT-S, was tested on the TON_IoT dataset. The popularity of video services such as video call or video on-demand has made it impossible for people to live without them in their daily lives. It can be anticipated that the explosive growth of vehicular communication owing to the widespread use of in-vehicle video infotainment applications in the future will result in increasing fragmentation and congestion of the wireless transmission spectrum. Accordingly, effective bandwidth management algorithms are demanded to achieve efficient communication and stable scalability in next-generation vehicular networks. To the best of our current knowledge, a noticeable gap remains in the existing literature regarding the application of the latest advancements in network communication technologies. Specifically, this gap is evident in the lack of exploration regarding how cutting-edge technologies can be effectively employed to optimize bandwidth allocation, especially in the realm of video service applications within the forthcoming vehicular networks. In light of this void, this paper presents a seamless integration of cutting-edge 6G communication technologies, such as terahertz (THz) and visible light communication (VLC), with the existing 5G millimeter-wave and sub-6 GHz base stations. This integration facilitates the creation of a network environment characterized by high transmission rates and extensive coverage. Our primary aim is to ensure the uninterrupted playback of real-time video applications for vehicle users. These video applications encompass video conferencing, live video, and on-demand video services. The outcomes of our simulations convincingly indicate that the proposed strategy adeptly addresses the challenge of bandwidth competition among vehicle users. Moreover, it notably boosts the efficient utilization of bandwidth from less crowded base stations, optimizes the fulfillment of bandwidth prerequisites for various video applications, and elevates the overall video quality experienced by users. Cloud computing plays an important role in every IT sector. Many tech giants such as Google, Microsoft, and Facebook as deploying their data centres around the world to provide computation and storage services. The customers either submit their job directly or they take the help of the brokers for the submission of the jobs to the cloud centres. The preliminary aim is to reduce the overall power consumption which was ignored in the early days of cloud development. This was due to the performance expectations from cloud servers as they were supposed to provide all the services through their services layers IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS. As time passed and researchers came up with new terminologies and algorithmic architecture for the reduction of power consumption and sustainability, other algorithmic anarchies were also introduced, such as statistical oriented learning and bioinspired algorithms. In this paper, an indepth focus has been done on multiple approaches for migration among virtual machines and find out various issues among existing approaches. The proposed work utilizes elastic scheduling inspired by the smart elastic scheduling algorithm (SESA) to develop a more energy-efficient VM allocation and migration algorithm. The proposed work uses cosine similarity and bandwidth utilization as additional utilities to improve the current performance in terms of QoS. This paper presents a state-of-the-art estimation technique by cross-combining a number n of filters for high-precision, reliable and robust vehicle sideslip angle state estimation, over a full range of vehicle operations irrespective of the driving mission and disruptions that may occur in the system. A machine-learning algorithm based on decision trees connects several filters together to switch between them according to the driving context, ensuring the best possible state estimate for relatively small and large sideslip angle values. In conjunction with the above-mentioned aspects, a seamless transition between different vehicle models is attained by observing the key parameters characterizing the lateral motion of the vehicle. Light field (LF) image depth estimation is a critical technique for LF-related applications such as 3D reconstruction, target detection, and tracking. The refocusing property of LF images provide rich information for depth estimations; however, it is still challenging in cases of occlusion regions, edge regions, noise interference, etc. The epipolar plane image (EPI) of LF can effectively deal with the depth estimation because of its characteristics of multidirectionality and pixel consistency—in which the LF depth estimations are converted to calculate the EPI slope. This paper proposed an EPI LF depth estimation algorithm based on a directional relationship model and attention mechanism. Unlike the subaperture LF depth estimation method, the proposed method takes EPIs as input images. Specifically, a directional relationship model was used to extract direction features of the horizontal and vertical EPIs, respectively. Then, a multiviewpoint attention mechanism combining channel attention and spatial attention is used to give more weight to the EPI slope information. Subsequently, multiple residual modules are used to eliminate the redundant features that interfere with the EPI slope information—in which a small stride convolution operation is used to avoid losing key EPI slope information. In Vehicular Edge Computing Network (VECN) scenarios, the mobility of vehicles causes the uncertainty of channel state information, which makes it difficult to guarantee the Quality of Service (QoS) in the process of computation offloading and the resource allocation of a Vehicular Edge Computing Server (VECS). A multi-user computation offloading and resource allocation optimization model and a computation offloading and resource allocation algorithm based on the Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient (DDPG) are proposed to address this problem. Firstly, the problem is modeled as a Mixed Integer Nonlinear Programming (MINLP) problem according to the optimization objective of minimizing the total system delay. Then, in response to the large state space and the coexistence of discrete and continuous variables in the action space, a reinforcement learning algorithm based on DDPG is proposed. Finally, the proposed method is used to solve the problem and compared with the other three benchmark schemes. Compared with the baseline algorithms, the proposed scheme can effectively select the task offloading mode and reasonably allocate VECS computing resources, ensure the QoS of task execution, and have a certain stability and scalability. Due to subjectivity in refereeing, the results of race walking are often questioned. To overcome this limitation, artificial-intelligence-based technologies have demonstrated their potential. The paper aims at presenting WARNING, an inertial-based wearable sensor integrated with a support vector machine algorithm to automatically identify race-walking faults. Two WARNING sensors were used to gather the 3D linear acceleration related to the shanks of ten expert race-walkers. Participants were asked to perform a race circuit following three race-walking conditions: legal, illegal with loss-of-contact and illegal with knee-bent. Thirteen machine learning algorithms, belonging to the decision tree, support vector machine and k-nearest neighbor categories, were evaluated. An inter-athlete training procedure was applied. Algorithm performance was evaluated in terms of overall accuracy, F1 score and G-index, as well as by computing the prediction speed. The quadratic support vector was confirmed to be the best-performing classifier, achieving an accuracy above 90% with a prediction speed of 29,000 observations/s when considering data from both shanks. A significant reduction of the performance was assessed when considering only one lower limb side. Intrusion detection systems (IDS) play a crucial role in securing networks and identifying malicious activity. This is a critical problem in cyber security. In recent years, metaheuristic optimization algorithms and deep learning techniques have been applied to IDS to improve their accuracy and efficiency. Generally, optimization algorithms can be used to boost the performance of IDS models. Deep learning methods, such as convolutional neural networks, have also been used to improve the ability of IDS to detect and classify intrusions. In this paper, we propose a new IDS model based on the combination of deep learning and optimization methods. First, a feature extraction method based on CNNs is developed. Then, a new feature selection method is used based on a modified version of Growth Optimizer (GO), called MGO. We use the Whale Optimization Algorithm (WOA) to boost the search process of the GO. Extensive evaluation and comparisons have been conducted to assess the quality of the suggested method using public datasets of cloud and Internet of Things (IoT) environments. The applied techniques have shown promising results in identifying previously unknown attacks with high accuracy rates. Structural health monitoring (SHM) systems are used to analyze the health of infrastructures such as bridges, using data from various types of sensors. While SHM systems consist of various stages, feature extraction and pattern recognition steps are the most important. Consequently, signal processing techniques in the feature extraction stage and machine learning algorithms in the pattern recognition stage play an effective role in analyzing the health of bridges. In other words, there exists a plethora of signal processing techniques and machine learning algorithms, and the selection of the appropriate technique/algorithm is guided by the limitations of each technique/algorithm. The selection also depends on the requirements of SHM in terms of damage identification level and operating conditions. This has provided the motivation to conduct a Systematic literature review (SLR) of feature extraction techniques and pattern recognition algorithms for the structural health monitoring of bridges. The existing literature reviews describe the current trends in the field with different focus aspects. However, a systematic literature review that presents an in-depth comparative study of different applications of machine learning algorithms in the field of SHM of bridges does not exist. Furthermore, there is a lack of analytical studies that investigate the SHM systems in terms of several design considerations including feature extraction techniques, analytical approaches (classification/ regression), operational functionality levels (diagnosis/prognosis) and system implementation techniques (data-driven/model-based). Consequently, this paper identifies 45 recent research practices (during 2016–2023), pertaining to feature extraction techniques and pattern recognition algorithms in SHM for bridges through an SLR process. First, the identified research studies are classified into three different categories: supervised learning algorithms, neural networks and a combination of both. Subsequently, an in-depth analysis of various machine learning algorithms is performed in each category. Moreover, the analysis of selected research studies (total = 45) in terms of feature extraction techniques is made, and 25 different techniques are identified. Monitoring a patient's vital signs is considered one of the most challenging problems in telehealth systems, especially when patients reside in remote locations. Companies now use IoT devices such as wearable devices to participate in telehealth systems. However, the steady adoption of wearables can result in a significant increase in the volume of data being collected and transmitted. As these devices run on limited battery power, they can run out of power quickly due to the high processing requirements of the device for data collection and transmission. Given the importance of medical data, it is imperative that all transmitted data adhere to strict integrity and availability requirements. Reducing the volume of healthcare data and the frequency of transmission can improve a device's battery life via an inference algorithm. Furthermore, this approach creates issues for improving transmission metrics related to accuracy and efficiency, which are traded-off against each other, with increasing accuracy reducing efficiency. This paper demonstrates that machine learning (ML) can be used to overcome the trade-off problem. The damped least-squares algorithm (DLSA) is used to enhance both metrics by taking fewer samples for transmission whilst maintaining accuracy. The algorithm is tested with a standard heart rate dataset to compare the metrics. The results showed that the DLSA provides the best performance, with an efficiency of 3.33 times for reduced sample data size and an accuracy of 95.6%, with similar accuracies observed in seven different sampling cases adopted for testing that demonstrate improved efficiency. With the exponential growth of data, solving classification or regression tasks by mining time series data has become a research hotspot. Commonly used methods include machine learning, artificial neural networks, and so on. However, these methods only extract the continuous or discrete features of sequences, which have the drawbacks of low information utilization, poor robustness, and computational complexity. To solve these problems, this paper innovatively uses Wasserstein distance instead of Kullback–Leibler divergence and uses it to construct an autoencoder to learn discrete features of time series. Then, a hidden Markov model is used to learn the continuous features of the sequence. Finally, stacking is used to ensemble the two models to obtain the final model. Quality inspection in the industrial production field is experiencing a strong technological development that benefits from the combination of vision-based techniques with artificial intelligence algorithms. This paper initially addresses the problem of defect identification for circularly symmetric mechanical components, characterized by the presence of periodic elements. In the specific case of knurled washers, we compare the performances of a standard algorithm for the analysis of grey-scale image with a Deep Learning (DL) approach. The standard algorithm is based on the extraction of pseudo-signals derived from the conversion of the grey scale image of concentric annuli. In the DL approach, the component inspection is shifted from the entire sample to specific areas repeated along the object profile where the defect may occur. The standard algorithm provides better results in terms of accuracy and computational time with respect to the DL approach. Nevertheless, DL reaches accuracy higher than 99% when performance is evaluated targeting the identification of damaged teeth. The failure of insulators may seriously threaten the safe operation of the power system, where the state detection of high-voltage insulators is a must for the normal and safe operation of the power system. Based on the data of insulators in aerial images, this work explored an enhanced particle swarm algorithm to optimize the parameters of the support vector machine. A support vector machine model was therefore established for the identification of the normal and defective states of the insulators. This methodology works with the structure minimization principle of SVM and the characteristics of particle swarm fast optimization. First, the aerial insulator image was segmented as a target by way of the seed region growth based on double-layer cascade morphological improvements, and then, HOG features plus GLCM features were extracted as sample data. Finally, an ameliorated PSO-SVM classifier was designed to realize insulator state identification. Comparisons were made between PSO-SVM and conventional machine learning algorithms, SVM and Random Forest, and an optimization algorithm, Gray Wolf Optimization Support Vector Machine (GWO-SVM), and advanced neural network CNN. The experimental results showed that the performance of the algorithm proposed in this paper touched the top level, where the recognition accuracy rate was 92.11%, the precision rate 90%, the recall rate 94.74%, and the F1-score 92.31%. Indoor 3D positioning is useful in multistory buildings, such as shopping malls, libraries, and airports. This study focuses on indoor 3D positioning using wireless access points (AP) in an environment without adding additional hardware facilities in large-scale complex places. The integration of a deep learning algorithm into indoor 3D positioning is studied, and a 3D dynamic positioning model based on temporal fingerprints is proposed. In contrast to the traditional positioning models with a single input, the proposed method uses a sliding time window to build a temporal fingerprint chip as the input of the positioning model to provide abundant information for positioning. Temporal information can be used to distinguish locations with similar fingerprint vectors and to improve the accuracy and robustness of positioning. Moreover, deep learning has been applied for the automatic extraction of spatiotemporal features. A temporal convolutional network (TCN) feature extractor is proposed in this paper, which adopts a causal convolution mechanism, dilated convolution mechanism, and residual connection mechanism and is not limited by the size of the convolution kernel. It is capable of learning hidden information and spatiotemporal relationships from the input features and the extracted spatiotemporal features are connected with a deep neural network (DNN) regressor to fit the complex nonlinear mapping relationship between the features and position coordinates to estimate the 3D position coordinates of the target. Finally, an open-source public dataset was used to verify the performance of the localization algorithm. Due to the characteristics of the cotton picker working in the field and the physical characteristics of cotton, it is easy to burn during the operation, and it is difficult to be detected, monitored, and alarmed. In this study, a fire monitoring system of cotton pickers based on GA optimized BP neural network model was designed. By integrating the monitoring data of SHT21 temperature and humidity sensors and CO concentration monitoring sensors, the fire situation was predicted, and an industrial control host computer system was developed to monitor the CO gas concentration in real time and display it on the vehicle terminal. The BP neural network was optimized by using the GA genetic algorithm as the learning algorithm, and the data collected by the gas sensor were processed by the optimized network, which effectively improved the data accuracy of CO concentration during fires. In this system, the CO concentration in the cotton box of the cotton picker was validated, and the measured value of sensor was compared with the actual value, which verified the effectiveness of the optimized BP neural network model with GA. The experimental verification showed that the system monitoring error rate was 3.44%, the accurate early warning rate was over 96.5%, and the false alarm rate and the missed alarm rate were less than 3%. Vehicle fault detection and diagnosis (VFDD) along with predictive maintenance (PdM) are indispensable for early diagnosis in order to prevent severe accidents due to mechanical malfunction in urban environments. This paper proposes an early voiceprint driving fault identification system using machine learning algorithms for classification. Previous studies have examined driving fault identification, but less attention has focused on using voiceprint features to locate corresponding faults. This research uses 43 different common vehicle mechanical malfunction condition voiceprint signals to construct the dataset. These datasets were filtered by linear predictive coefficient (LPC) and wavelet transform(WT). After the original voiceprint fault sounds were filtered and obtained the main fault characteristics, the deep neural network (DNN), convolutional neural network (CNN), and long short-term memory (LSTM) architectures are used for identification. The experimental results show that the accuracy of the CNN algorithm is the best for the LPC dataset. In addition, for the wavelet dataset, DNN has the best performance in terms of identification performance and training time. After cross-comparison of experimental results, the wavelet algorithm combined with DNN can improve the identification accuracy by up to 16.57% compared with other deep learning algorithms and reduce the model training time by up to 21.5% compared with other algorithms. In this paper, we present a design method for a wideband non-uniformly spaced linear array (NUSLA), with both symmetric and asymmetric geometries, using the modified reinforcement learning algorithm (MORELA). We designed a cost function that provided freedom to the beam pattern by setting limits only on the beam width (BW) and side-lobe level (SLL) in order to satisfy the desired BW and SLL in the wide band. We added the scan angle condition to the cost function to design the scanned beam pattern, as the ability to scan a beam in the desired direction is important in various applications. In order to prevent possible pointing angle errors for asymmetric NUSLA, we employed a penalty function to ensure the peak at the desired direction. Modified reinforcement learning algorithm (MORELA), which is a reinforcement learning-based algorithm used to determine a global optimum of the cost function, is applied to optimize the spacing and weights of the NUSLA by minimizing the proposed cost function. D-band (110–170 GHz) has been regarded as a potential candidate for the future 6G wireless network because of its large available bandwidth. At present, the lack of electrical amplifiers operating in the high frequency band and the strong nonlinear effect, i.e., the D-band, are still important problems. Therefore, effective methods to mitigate the nonlinear issue resulting from the ROF link are indispensable, among of which machine learning is considered the most effective paradigm to model the nonlinear behavior due to its nonlinear active function and structure. In order to reduce the computation amount and burden, a novel deep learning neural network equalizer connected with typical mathematical frequency offset estimation (FOE) and carrier phase recovery (CPR) algorithms is proposed. We implement D-band 45 Gbaud PAM-4 and 20 Gbaud PAM-8 ROF transmission simulations, and the simulation results show that the real value neural network (RVNN) equalizer connected with the Viterbi-Viterbi algorithm exhibits better compensation ability for nonlinear impairment, especially when dealing with serious inter-symbol interference and nonlinear effects. In our experiment, we employ coherent detection to further improve the receiver sensitivity, so a complex baseband signal after down conversion at the receiver is inherently produced. In this scenario, the complex value neural network (CVNN) and RVNN equalizer connected with the Viterbi-Viterbi algorithm have better BER performance with an error rate lower than the HD-FEC threshold of 3.8 × 10−3. An indoor localization system based on the RSSI-APIT algorithm is designed in this study. Integrated RSSI (received signal strength indication) and non-ranging APIT (approximate perfect point-in-triangulation test) localization methods are fused with machine learning in order to improve the accuracy of the indoor localization system. The system focuses on the improvement of preprocessing and localization algorithms. The primary objective of the system is to enhance the preprocessing of the acquired RSSI data and optimize the localization algorithm in order to enhance the precision of the coordinates in the indoor localization system. In order to mitigate the issue of significant fluctuations in RSSI, a technique including the integration of Gaussian filtering and an artificial neural network (ANN) is employed. This approach aims to preprocess the acquired RSSI data, thus reducing the impact of multipath effects. In order to address the issue of low localization accuracy encountered by the conventional APIT localization algorithm during wide-area localization, the RSSI ranging function is incorporated into the APIT localization algorithm. This addition serves to further narrow down the localization area. Consequently, the resulting localization algorithm is referred to as the RSSI-APIT positioning algorithm. Experimental results have demonstrated the successful reduction of inherent localization errors within the system by employing the RSSI-APIT positioning algorithm. The present study aims to investigate the impact of the localization scene and the number of anchors on the RSSI-APIT localization algorithm, with the objective of enhancing the performance of the indoor localization system. The conducted experiments demonstrated that the enhanced system exhibits several advantages. Firstly, it successfully decreased the frequency of anchor calls, resulting in a reduction in the overall operating cost of the system. Additionally, it effectively enhanced the accuracy and stability of the system's localization capabilities. Multi-agent reinforcement learning excels at addressing group intelligent decision-making problems involving sequential decision-making. In particular, in complex, high-dimensional state and action spaces, it imposes higher demands on the reliability, stability, and adaptability of decision algorithms. The reinforcement learning algorithm based on the multi-agent deep strategy gradient incorporates a function approximation method using discriminant networks. However, this can lead to estimation errors when agents evaluate action values, thereby reducing model reliability and stability and resulting in challenging convergence. With the increasing complexity of the environment, there is a decline in the quality of experience collected by the experience playback pool, resulting in low efficiency of the sampling stage and difficulties in algorithm convergence. To address these challenges, we propose an innovative approach called the empirical clustering layer-based multi-agent dual dueling policy gradient (ECL-MAD3PG) algorithm. Experimental results demonstrate that our ECL-MAD3PG algorithm outperforms other methods in various complex environments, demonstrating a remarkable 9.1% improvement in mission completion compared to MADDPG within the context of complex UAV cooperative combat scenarios. At present, a medium-level microcontroller is capable of performing edge computing and can handle the computation of neural network kernel functions. This makes it possible to implement a complete end-to-end solution incorporating signal acquisition, digital signal processing, and machine learning for the classification of cardiac arrhythmias on a small wearable device. In this work, we describe the design and implementation of several classifiers for atrial fibrillation detection on a general-purpose ARM Cortex-M4 microcontroller. We used the CMSIS-DSP library, which supports Naïve Bayes and Support Vector Machine classifiers, with different kernel functions. We also developed Python scripts to automatically transfer the Python model (trained in Scikit-learn) to the C environment. To train and evaluate the models, we used part of the data from the PhysioNet/Computing in Cardiology Challenge 2020 and performed simple classification of atrial fibrillation based on heart-rate irregularity. The performance of the classifiers was tested on a general-purpose ARM Cortex-M4 microcontroller (STM32WB55RG). Our study reveals that among the tested classifiers, the SVM classifier with RBF kernel function achieves the highest accuracy of 96.9%, sensitivity of 98.4%, and specificity of 95.8%. The execution time of this classifier was 720 μ s per recording. We also discuss the advantages of moving computing tasks to edge devices, including increased power efficiency of the system, improved patient data privacy and security, and reduced overall system operation costs. Predicting attacks in Android malware devices using machine learning for recommender systems-based IoT can be a challenging task. However, it is possible to use various machine-learning techniques to achieve this goal. An internet-based framework is used to predict and recommend Android malware on IoT devices. As the prevalence of Android devices grows, the malware creates new viruses on a regular basis, posing a threat to the central system's security and the privacy of the users. The suggested system uses static analysis to predict the malware in Android apps used by consumer devices. The training of the presented system is used to predict and recommend malicious devices to block them from transmitting the data to the cloud server. By taking into account various machine-learning methods, feature selection is performed and the K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN) machine-learning model is proposed. Testing was carried out on more than 10,000 Android applications to check malicious nodes and recommend that the cloud server block them. The developed model contemplated all four machine-learning algorithms in parallel, i.e., naive Bayes, decision tree, support vector machine, and the K-Nearest Neighbor approach and static analysis as a feature subset selection algorithm, and it achieved the highest prediction rate of 93% to predict the malware in real-world applications of consumer devices to minimize the utilization of energy. The internal structure of wind turbines is intricate and precise, although the challenging working conditions often give rise to various operational faults. This study aims to address the limitations of traditional machine learning algorithms in wind turbine fault detection and the imbalance of positive and negative samples in the fault detection dataset. To achieve the real-time detection of wind turbine group faults and to capture wind turbine fault state information, an enhanced ASL-CatBoost algorithm is proposed. Additionally, a crawling animal search algorithm that incorporates the Tent chaotic mapping and t-distribution mutation strategy is introduced to assess the sensitivity of the ASL-CatBoost algorithm toward hyperparameters and the difficulty of manual hyperparameter setting. The effectiveness of the proposed hyperparameter optimization strategy, termed the TtRSA algorithm, is demonstrated through a comparison of traditional intelligent optimization algorithms using 11 benchmark test functions. When applied to the hyperparameter optimization of the ASL-CatBoost algorithm, the TtRSA-ASL-CatBoost algorithm exhibits notable enhancements in accuracy, recall, and other performance measures compared with the ASL-CatBoost algorithm and other ensemble learning algorithms. Quality-related prediction in the continuous-casting process is important for the quality and process control of casting slabs. As intelligent manufacturing technologies continue to evolve, numerous data-driven techniques have been available for industrial applications. This case study was aimed at developing a machine-learning algorithm, capable of predicting slag inclusion defects in continuous-casting slabs, based on process condition sensor data. A large dataset consisting of sensor data from nearly 7300 casting samples has been analyzed, with the empirical mode decomposition (EMD) algorithm utilized to process the multi-modal time series. The following machine-learning algorithms have been examined: K-Nearest neighbors, support vector classifier (linear and nonlinear kernels), decision trees, random forests, AdaBoost, and Artificial Neural Networks. Four over-sampling or under-sampling algorithms have been adopted to solve imbalanced data distribution. In the context of Shared Autonomous Vehicles, the need to monitor the environment inside the car will be crucial. This article focuses on the application of deep learning algorithms to present a fusion monitoring solution which was three different algorithms: a violent action detection system, which recognizes violent behaviors between passengers, a violent object detection system, and a lost items detection system. Public datasets were used for object detection algorithms (COCO and TAO) to train state-of-the-art algorithms such as YOLOv5. There are high concentrations of urban spaces and increasingly complex land use types. Providing an efficient and scientific identification of building types has become a major challenge in urban architectural planning. This study used an optimized gradient-boosted decision tree algorithm to enhance a decision tree model for building classification. Through supervised classification learning, machine learning training was conducted using a business-type weighted database. We innovatively established a form database to store input items. During parameter optimization, parameters such as the number of nodes, maximum depth, and learning rate were gradually adjusted based on the performance of the verification set to achieve optimal performance on the verification set under the same conditions. Simultaneously, a k-fold cross-validation method was used to avoid overfitting. The model clusters trained in the machine learning training corresponded to various city sizes. By setting the parameters to determine the size of the area of land for a target city, the corresponding classification model could be invoked. The experimental results show that this algorithm has high accuracy in building recognition. Especially in R, S, and U-class buildings, the overall accuracy rate of recognition reaches over 94%. Freezing of gait (FoG) is a disabling clinical phenomenon of Parkinson's disease (PD) characterized by the inability to move the feet forward despite the intention to walk. It is one of the most troublesome symptoms of PD, leading to an increased risk of falls and reduced quality of life. The combination of wearable inertial sensors and machine learning (ML) algorithms represents a feasible solution to monitor FoG in real-world scenarios. However, traditional FoG detection algorithms process all data indiscriminately without considering the context of the activity during which FoG occurs. This study aimed to develop a lightweight, context-aware algorithm that can activate FoG detection systems only under certain circumstances, thus reducing the computational burden. Several approaches were implemented, including ML and deep learning (DL) gait recognition methods, as well as a single-threshold method based on acceleration magnitude. To train and evaluate the context algorithms, data from a single inertial sensor were extracted using three different datasets encompassing a total of eighty-one PD patients. Sensitivity and specificity for gait recognition ranged from 0.95 to 0.96 and 0.80 to 0.93, respectively, with the one-dimensional convolutional neural network providing the best results. The threshold approach performed better than ML- and DL-based methods when evaluating the effect of context awareness on FoG detection performance. Overall, context algorithms allow for discarding more than 55% of non-FoG data and less than 4% of FoG episodes. The results indicate that a context classifier can reduce the computational burden of FoG detection algorithms without significantly affecting the FoG detection rate. Considering the low indoor positioning accuracy and poor positioning stability of traditional machine-learning algorithms, an indoor-fingerprint-positioning algorithm based on weighted k-nearest neighbors (WKNN) and extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost) was proposed in this study. Firstly, the outliers in the dataset of established fingerprints were removed by Gaussian filtering to enhance the data reliability. Secondly, the sample set was divided into a training set and a test set, followed by modeling using the XGBoost algorithm with the received signal strength data at each access point (AP) in the training set as the feature, and the coordinates as the label. Meanwhile, such parameters as the learning rate in the XGBoost algorithm were dynamically adjusted via the genetic algorithm (GA), and the optimal value was searched based on a fitness function. Then, the nearest neighbor set searched by the WKNN algorithm was introduced into the XGBoost model, and the final predicted coordinates were acquired after weighted fusion. As indicated in the experimental results, the average positioning error of the proposed algorithm is 1.22 m, which is 20.26–45.58% lower than that of traditional indoor positioning algorithms. This research presents an Assist-as-Needed (AAN) Algorithm for controlling a bio-inspired exoskeleton, specifically designed to aid in elbow-rehabilitation exercises. The algorithm is based on a Force Sensitive Resistor (FSR) Sensor and utilizes machine-learning algorithms that are personalized to each patient, allowing them to complete the exercise by themselves whenever possible. The system was tested on five participants, including four with Spinal Cord Injury and one with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, with an accuracy of 91.22 % . In addition to monitoring the elbow range of motion, the system uses Electromyography signals from the biceps to provide patients with real-time feedback on their progress, which can serve as a motivator to complete the therapy sessions. To evaluate the efficiency of the LoRa Wide-Area Network (LoRaWAN), three criteria can be considered, namely, the Packet Delivery Rate (PDR), Energy Consumption (EC), and coverage area. A set of transmission parameters have to be configured to establish a communication link. These parameters can affect the data rate, noise resistance, receiver sensitivity, and EC. The Adaptive Data Rate (ADR) algorithm is a mechanism to configure the transmission parameters of EDs aiming to improve the PDR. Therefore, we introduce a new algorithm using the Multi-Armed Bandit (MAB) technique, to configure the EDs' transmission parameters in a centralized manner on the Network Server (NS) side, while improving the EC, too. The performance of the proposed algorithm, the Low-Power Multi-Armed Bandit (LP-MAB), is evaluated through simulation results and is compared with other approaches in different scenarios. This research combines the application of artificial intelligence in the production equipment fault monitoring of aerospace components. It detects three-phase current abnormalities in large hot-pressing furnaces through smart meters and provides early preventive maintenance. Different anomalies are classified, and a suitable monitoring process algorithm is proposed to improve the overall monitoring quality, accuracy, and stability by applying AI. We also designed a system to present the heater's power consumption and the hot-pressing furnace's fan and visualize the process. Combining artificial intelligence with the experience and technology of professional technicians and researchers to detect and proactively grasp the health of the hot-pressing furnace equipment improves the shortcomings of previous expert systems, achieves long-term stability, and reduces costs. Computing has undergone a significant transformation over the past two decades, shifting from a machine-based approach to a human-centric, virtually invisible service known as ubiquitous or pervasive computing. This change has been achieved by incorporating small embedded devices into a larger computational system, connected through networking and referred to as edge devices. When these devices are also connected to the Internet, they are generally named Internet-of-Thing (IoT) devices. Developing Machine Learning (ML) algorithms on these types of devices allows them to provide Artificial Intelligence (AI) inference functions such as computer vision, pattern recognition, etc. However, this capability is severely limited by the device's resource scarcity. Embedded devices have limited computational and power resources available while they must maintain a high degree of autonomy. While there are several published studies that address the computational weakness of these small systems-mostly through optimization and compression of neural networks- they often neglect the power consumption and efficiency implications of these techniques. This study presents power efficiency experimental results from the application of well-known and proven optimization methods using a set of well-known ML models. The results are presented in a meaningful manner considering the "real world" functionality of devices and the provided results are compared with the basic "idle" power consumption of each of the selected systems. Two different systems with completely different architectures and capabilities were used providing us with results that led to interesting conclusions related to the power efficiency of each architecture. The transmission of satellite payload data is critical for services provided by aerospace ground networks. To ensure the correctness of data transmission, the TCP data transmission protocol has been used typically. However, the standard TCP congestion control algorithm is incompatible with networks with a long time delay and a large bandwidth, resulting in low throughput and resource waste. This article compares recent studies on TCP-based acceleration algorithms and proposes an acceleration algorithm based on the learning of historical characteristics, such as end-to-end delay and its variation characteristics, the arrival interval of feedback packets (ACK) at the receiving end and its variation characteristics, the degree of data packet reversal and its variation characteristics, delay and jitter caused by the security equipment's deep data inspection, and random packet loss caused by various factors. The proposed algorithm is evaluated and compared with the TCP congestion control algorithms under both laboratory and ground network conditions. Experimental results indicate that the proposed acceleration algorithm is efficient and can significantly increase throughput. In an indoor positioning system (IPS), transfer learning (TL) methods are commonly used to predict the location of mobile devices under the assumption that all training instances of the target domain are given in advance. However, this assumption has been criticized for its shortcomings in dealing with the problem of signal distribution variations, especially in a dynamic indoor environment. The reasons are: collecting a sufficient number of training instances is costly, the training instances may arrive online, the feature spaces of the target and source domains may be different, and negative knowledge may be transferred in the case of a redundant source domain. In this work, we proposed an online heterogeneous transfer learning (OHetTLAL) algorithm for IPS-based RSS fingerprinting to improve the positioning performance in the target domain by fusing both source and target domain knowledge. The source domain was refined based on the target domain to avoid negative knowledge transfer. The co-occurrence measure of the feature spaces ( C m i p ) was used to derive the homogeneous new feature spaces, and the features with higher weight values were selected for training the classifier because they could positively affect the location prediction of the target. Thus, the objective function was minimized over the new feature spaces. Extensive experiments were conducted on two real-world scenarios of datasets, and the predictive power of the different modeling techniques were evaluated for predicting the location of a mobile device. The results have revealed that the proposed algorithm outperforms the state-of-the-art methods for fingerprint-based indoor positioning and is found robust to changing environments. Analyzing vibration data using deep neural networks is an effective way to detect damages in rotating machinery at an early stage. However, the black-box approach of these methods often does not provide a satisfactory solution because the cause of classifications is not comprehensible to humans. Therefore, this work investigates the application of the explainable AI (XAI) algorithms to convolutional neural networks for vibration-based condition monitoring. Thus, the three XAI algorithms GradCAM, LRP and LIME with a modified perturbation strategy are applied to classifications based on the Fourier transform as well as the order analysis of the vibration signal. The following visualization as frequency-RPM maps and order-RPM maps allows for an effective assessment of saliency values for variable periodicity of the data, which translates to a varying rotation speed of a real-world machine. To compare the explanatory power of the XAI methods, investigations are first carried out with a synthetic data set with known class-specific characteristics. Both a visual and a quantitative analysis of the resulting saliency maps are presented. Then, a real-world data set for vibration-based imbalance classification on an electric motor, which runs at a broad range of rotation speeds, is used. The results indicate that the investigated algorithms are each partially successful in providing sample-specific saliency maps which highlight class-specific features and omit features which are not relevant for classification. Metal oxide semiconductor (MOS) gas sensors have many advantages, but the main obstacle to their widespread use is the cross-sensitivity observed when using this type of detector to analyze gas mixtures. Thermal modulation of the heater integrated with a MOS gas sensor reduced this problem and is a promising solution for applications requiring the selective detection of volatile compounds. Nevertheless, the interpretation of the sensor output signals, which take the form of complex, unique patterns, is difficult and requires advanced signal processing techniques. The study focuses on the development of a methodology to measure and process the output signal of a thermally modulated MOS gas sensor based on a B-spline curve and artificial neural networks (ANNs), which enable the quantitative analysis of volatile components (ethanol and acetone) coexisting in mixtures. B-spline approximation applied in the first stage allowed for the extraction of relevant information from the gas sensor output voltage and reduced the size of the measurement dataset while maintaining the most vital features contained in it. Then, the determined parameters of the curve were used as the input vector for the ANN model based on the multilayer perceptron structure. We present experimental results on the reconstruction of the 2D temperature field on the surface of a 250 × 250 mm sensor panel based on the distributed frequency shift measured by an optical backscatter reflectometer. A linear regression and a feed-forward neural network algorithm, trained by varying the temperature field and capturing thermal images of the panel, are used for the reconstruction. In this approach, we do not use any information about the exact trajectory of the fiber, material properties of the sensor panel, and a temperature sensitivity coefficient of the fiber. Mean absolute errors of 0.118 °C and 0.086 °C are achieved in the case of linear regression and feed-forward neural network, respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
