In the epoch characterized by the anticipation of autonomous vehicles, the quality of the embedded system software, its reliability, safety, and security is significant. The testing of embedded software is an increasingly significant element of the development process. The application of artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms in the process of testing embedded software in vehicles constitutes a significant area of both research and practical consideration, arising from the escalating complexity of these systems. This paper presents the preliminary development of the AVESYS framework which facilitates the application of open-source artificial intelligence algorithms in the embedded system testing process. The aim of this work is to evaluate its effectiveness in identifying anomalies in the test environment that could potentially affect testing results. The raw data from the test environment, mainly communication signals and readings from temperature, as well as current and voltage sensors are pre-processed and used to train machine learning models. The development of artificial intelligence technology provides a new model for substation inspection in the power industry, and effective defect diagnosis can avoid the impact of substation equipment defects on the power grid and improve the reliability and stability of power grid operation. Aiming to combat the problem of poor recognition of small targets due to large differences in equipment morphology in complex substation scenarios, a visual fault detection algorithm of substation equipment based on improved YOLOv5 is proposed. Firstly, a deformable convolution module is introduced into the backbone network to achieve adaptive learning of scale and receptive field size. Secondly, in the neck of the network, a simple and effective BiFPN structure is used instead of PANet. The multi-level feature combination of the network is adjusted by a floating adaptive weighted fusion strategy. Lastly, an additional small object detection layer is added to detect shallower feature maps. Experimental results demonstrate that the improved algorithm effectively enhances the performance of power equipment and defect recognition. Artificial intelligence (AI) has made rapid progress in recent years, but as the complexity of AI models and the need to deploy them on multiple platforms gradually increases, the design of network model structures for specific platforms becomes more difficult. A neural network architecture search (NAS) serves as a solution to help experts discover new network structures that are suitable for different tasks and platforms. However, traditional NAS algorithms often consume time and many computational resources, especially when dealing with complex tasks and large-scale models, and the search process can become exceptionally time-consuming and difficult to interpret. In this paper, we propose a class activation graph-based neural structure search method (CAM-NAS) to address these problems. Compared with traditional NAS algorithms, CAM-NAS does not require full training of submodels, which greatly improves the search efficiency. Meanwhile, CAM-NAS uses the class activation graph technique, which makes the searched models have better interpretability. In our experiments, we tested CAM-NAS on an NVIDIA RTX 3090 graphics card and showed that it can evaluate a submodel in only 0.08 seconds, which is much faster than traditional NAS methods. In this study, we experimentally evaluated CAM-NAS using the CIFAR-10 and CIFAR-100 datasets as benchmarks. The experimental results show that CAM-NAS achieves very good results. Ineffective protein feature representation poses problems in protein classification in hierarchical structures. Discrete wavelet transform (DWT) is a feature representation method which generates global and local features based on different wavelet families and decomposition levels. To represent protein sequences, the proper wavelet family and decomposition level must be selected. This paper proposed a hybrid optimization method using particle swarm optimization and the firefly algorithm (FAPSO) to choose the suitable wavelet family and decomposition level of wavelet transformation for protein feature representation. The suggested approach improved on the work of earlier researchers who, in most cases, manually selected the wavelet family and level of decomposition based solely on experience and not on data. The paper also applied the virtual class methods to overcome the error propagation problems in hierarchical classification. The effectiveness of the proposed method was tested on a G-Protein Coupled Receptor (GPCR) protein data set consisting of 5 classes at the family level, 38 classes at the subfamily level, and 87 classes at the sub-subfamily level. Based on the result obtained, the most selected wavelet family and decomposition level chosen to represent GPCR classes by FAPSO are Biorthogonal wavelets and decomposition level 1, respectively. The experimental results show that the representation of GPCR protein using the FAPSO algorithm with virtual classes can yield 97.9%, 86.9%, and 81.3% classification accuracy at the family, subfamily, and sub-subfamily levels, respectively. In conclusion, the result shows that the selection of optimized wavelet family and decomposition level by the FAPSO algorithm, and the virtual class method can be potentially used as the feature representation method and a hierarchical classification method for GPCR protein. The purpose of this work is to present the design and pilot evaluation of SpAI War, which is a serious game that aims to introduce the user–student to the field of AI and its algorithms. Specifically, the paper presents the design of SpAI War in the context of the Educational Games (EG) design framework. This is followed by the results of the pilot evaluation of the game by 58 undergraduates and graduates of Informatics. Cognitive artificial intelligence (CAI) is an intelligent machine that thinks and behaves similar to humans. CAI also has an ability to mimic human emotions. With the development of AI in various fields, the interest and demand for CAI are continuously increasing. Most of the current AI research focuses on the realization of intelligence that can make optimal decisions. Existing AI studies have not conducted in-depth research on human emotions and cognitive perspectives. However, in the future, the demand for the use of AI that can imitate human emotions in various fields, such as healthcare and education, will continue. In this study, we demonstrate the viability of applying artificial intelligence (AI) techniques to conduct inspections at the OLED cell level using simulated data. The implementation of AI technologies necessitates training data, which we addressed by generating an OLED dataset via our proprietary A2G algorithm, integrating the finite element method among concerns over data security. Our A2G algorithm is designed to produce time-dependent datasets and establish threshold conditions for the expansion of dark spots based on OLED parameters and predicted lifespan. We explored the potential integration of AI in the inspection phase, performing cell-based evaluations using three distinct convolutional neural network models. The test results yielded a promising 95% recognition rate when classifying OLED data into pass and fail categories, demonstrating the practical effectiveness of this approach. Through this research, we not only confirmed the feasibility of using simulated OLED data in place of actual data but also highlighted the potential for the automation of manual inspection processes. Furthermore, by introducing OLED defect detection models at the cell level, as opposed to the traditional panel level during inspections, we anticipate higher classification rates and improved yield. As the elderly population increases globally, the demand for systems and algorithms that target the elderly is increasing. Focusing on the extendibility of smart mirrors, our purpose is to create a motion detection system based on video input by an attached device (an RGB camera). The motion detection system presented in this paper is based on an algorithm that returns a Boolean value indicating the detection of motion based on skeletal information. We analyzed the problems that occur when the adjacent frame subtraction method (AFSM) is used in the motion detection algorithm based on the skeleton-related output of the pose estimation model. We compared and tested the motion recognition rate for slow-motion with the previously used AFSM and the vector sum method (VSM) proposed in this paper. With the development of deep learning, gesture recognition systems based on the neural network have become quite advanced, but the application effect in the elderly is not ideal. Due to the change of the palm shape of the elderly, the gesture recognition rate of most elderly people is only about 70%. Therefore, in this paper, an intelligent gesture error correction algorithm based on game rules is proposed on the basis of the AlexNet. Firstly, this paper studies the differences between the palms of the elderly and young people. It also analyzes the misread gesture by using the probability statistics method and establishes a misread-gesture database. Then, based on the misreading-gesture library, the maximum channel number of different gestures in the fifth layer is studied by using the similar curve algorithm and the Pearson algorithm. Finally, error correction is completed under the game rule. The experimental results show that the gesture recognition rate of the elderly can be improved to more than 90% by using the proposed intelligent error correction algorithm. Artificial intelligence in games is one of the most challenging tasks in academia and industry. In action role-playing games, how to manage combat effectively is a key issue related to game development and the player's experience. The Belgian artificial intelligence (BAI) algorithm is a classic but limited method that is widely used for combat management between the player and enemies. To address the poor adaptability of BAI, this paper proposes an improved Belgian artificial intelligence (IBAI) algorithm with dynamic difficulty adjustment (DDA) and implements two systems separately based on BAI and IBAI in Unreal Engine 4. Advantages on 12 parameters—10.086 mean total score greater, and 0.079 standard deviation smaller—demonstrate that the system based on IBAI has higher adaptability and a better player experience by comparing the two systems in different situations and inviting players to participate in gameplay experiences and questionnaires. The robust dynamic management mechanism of IBAI can help game designers and developers achieve the combat system of action role-playing games more efficiently, thus, shortening the development cycle and improving the player retention rate. A smart grid is a promising use-case of AIoT (AI (artificial intelligence) across IoT (internet of things)) that enables bidirectional communication among utilities that arises with demand response (DR) schemes for demand-side management (DSM) and consumers that manage their power demands according to received DR signals. Disaggregating composite electric energy consumption data from a single minimal set of plug-panel current and voltage sensors installed at the electric panel in a practical field of interest, nonintrusive appliance load monitoring (NIALM), a cost-effective load disaggregation approach for (residential) DSM, is able to discern individual electrical appliances concerned without accessing each of them by individual plug-load power meters (smart plugs) deployed intrusively. The most common load disaggregation approaches are based on machine learning algorithms such as artificial neural networks, while approaches based on evolutionary computing, metaheuristic algorithms considered as global optimization and search techniques, have recently caught the attention of researchers. This paper presents a genetic algorithm, developed in consideration of parallel evolutionary computing, and aims to address NIALM, whereby load disaggregation from composite electric energy consumption data is declared as a combinatorial optimization problem and is solved by the algorithm. The algorithm is accelerated in parallel, as it would involve large amounts of NIALM data disaggregated through evolutionary computing, chromosomes, and/or evolutionary cycles to dominate its performance in load disaggregation and excessively cost its execution time. Moreover, the evolutionary computing implementation based on parallel computing, a feed-forward, multilayer artificial neural network that can learn from training data across all available workers of a parallel pool on a machine (in parallel computing) addresses the same NIALM/load disaggregation. Driven by the supply chain, suppliers, manufacturers and warehouses are working more closely together for improving service quality. However, tremendous cost may incur in the supply chain if transportation is not planned properly and efficiently, which frustrates enterprises in the intense market. In this paper, we present a model of vehicle routing problem in complex supply chain (VRPCSC) and propose an intelligent algorithm called hybrid chaotic discrete bat algorithm with variable neighborhood search for minimizing the purchase cost of materials, processing cost, and delivery cost along the path from suppliers, to manufacturers and warehouses in the vehicle routing problem. With the start of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), and big data technologies are attracting global attention. AI can achieve fast computational speed, and big data makes it possible to store and use vast amounts of data. In addition, smartphones, which are IoT devices, are owned by most people. Based on these advantages, the above three technologies can be combined and effectively applied to navigation technology. In the case of an outdoor environment, global positioning system (GPS) technology has been developed to enable relatively accurate positioning of the user. However, due to the problem of radio wave loss because of many obstacles and walls, there are obvious limitations in applying GPS to indoor environments. Hence, we propose a method to increase the accuracy of user positioning in indoor environments using wireless-fidelity (Wi-Fi). The core technology of the proposed method is to limit the initial search region of the particle swarm optimization (PSO), an intelligent particle algorithm; doing so increases the probability that particles converge to the global optimum and shortens the convergence time of the algorithm. For this reason, the proposed method can achieve fast processing time and high accuracy. To limit the initial search region of the PSO, we first build an received signal strength indicator (RSSI) database for each sample point (SP) using a fingerprinting scheme. Then, a limited region is established through a fuzzy matching algorithm. Finally, the particles are randomly distributed within a limited region, and then the user's location is positioned through a PSO. Simulation results confirm that the method proposed in this paper achieves the highest positioning accuracy, with an error of about 1 m when the SP interval is 3 m in an indoor environment. The new generation of programmable networks allow mechanisms to be deployed for the efficient control of dynamic bandwidth allocation and ensure Quality of Service (QoS) in terms of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for delay or loss sensitive Internet of Things (IoT) services. To achieve flexible, dynamic and automated network resource management in Software-Defined Networking (SDN), Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms can provide an effective solution. In the paper, we propose the solution for network resources allocation, where the AI algorithm is responsible for controlling intent-based routing in SDN. The paper focuses on the problem of optimal switching of intents between two designated paths using the Deep-Q-Learning approach based on an artificial neural network. The Developed Networked Application Emulation System (NAPES) allows the AI solution to be tested with different patterns to evaluate the performance of the proposed solution. The AI algorithm was trained to maximize the total throughput in the network and effective network utilization. With the increasing popularity of artificial intelligence applications, artificial intelligence technology has begun to be applied in competitive sports. These applications have promoted the improvement of athletes' competitive ability, as well as the fitness of the masses. Human action recognition technology, based on deep learning, has gradually been applied to the analysis of the technical actions of competitive sports athletes, as well as the analysis of tactics. In this paper, a new graph convolution model is proposed. Delaunay's partitioning algorithm was used to construct a new spatiotemporal topology which can effectively obtain the structural information and spatiotemporal features of athletes' technical actions. At the same time, the attention mechanism was integrated into the model, and different weight coefficients were assigned to the joints, which significantly improved the accuracy of technical action recognition. First, a comparison between the current state-of-the-art methods was undertaken using the general datasets of Kinect and NTU-RGB + D. The performance of the new algorithm model was slightly improved in comparison to the general dataset. Then, the performance of our algorithm was compared with spatial temporal graph convolutional networks (ST-GCN) for the karate technique action dataset. Hybrid electric vehicles are, nowadays, considered as one of the most promising technologies for reducing on-road greenhouse gases and pollutant emissions. According to the latest research in the field of control algorithms for hybrid electric vehicles, Reinforcement Learning has emerged between several Artificial Intelligence approaches as it has proved to retain the capability of producing near-optimal solutions to the control problem even in real-time conditions. Highly deceptive deepfake technologies have caused much controversy, e.g., artificial intelligence-based software can automatically generate nude photos and deepfake images of anyone. This brings considerable threats to both individuals and society. In addition to video and image forgery, audio forgery poses many hazards but lacks sufficient attention. Furthermore, existing works have only focused on voice spoof detection, neglecting the identification of spoof algorithms. It is of great value to recognize the algorithm for synthesizing spoofing voices in traceability. This study presents a system combining voice spoof detection and algorithm recognition. In contrast, the generalizability of the spoof detection model is discussed from the perspective of embedding space and decision boundaries to face the voice spoofing attacks generated by spoof algorithms that are not available in the training set. This study presents a method for voice spoof algorithms recognition based on incremental learning, taking into account data flow scenarios where new spoof algorithms keep appearing in reality. Our experimental results on the LA dataset of ASVspoof show that our system can improve the generalization of spoof detection and identify new voice spoof algorithms without catastrophic forgetting. As exact algorithms are unfeasible to solve real optimization problems, due to their computational complexity, meta-heuristics are usually used to solve them. However, choosing a meta-heuristic to solve a particular optimization problem is a non-trivial task, and often requires a time-consuming trial and error process. Hyper-heuristics, which are heuristics to choose heuristics, have been proposed as a means to both simplify and improve algorithm selection or configuration for optimization problems. This paper novel presents a novel cross-domain evaluation for multi-objective optimization: we investigate how four state-of-the-art online hyper-heuristics with different characteristics perform in order to find solutions for eighteen real-world multi-objective optimization problems. These hyper-heuristics were designed in previous studies and tackle the algorithm selection problem from different perspectives: Election-Based, based on Reinforcement Learning and based on a mathematical function. All studied hyper-heuristics control a set of five Multi-Objective Evolutionary Algorithms (MOEAs) as Low-Level (meta-)Heuristics (LLHs) while finding solutions for the optimization problem. To our knowledge, this work is the first to deal conjointly with the following issues: (i) selection of meta-heuristics instead of simple operators (ii) focus on multi-objective optimization problems, (iii) experiments on real world problems and not just function benchmarks. In our experiments, we computed, for each algorithm execution, Hypervolume and IGD+ and compared the results considering the Kruskal–Wallis statistical test. Furthermore, we ranked all the tested algorithms considering three different Friedman Rankings to summarize the cross-domain analysis. Our results showed that hyper-heuristics have a better cross-domain performance than single meta-heuristics, which makes them excellent candidates for solving new multi-objective optimization problems. Self-driving vehicles have experienced an increase in research interest in the last decades. Nevertheless, fully autonomous vehicles are still far from being a common means of transport. This paper presents the design and experimental validation of a processor-in-the-loop (PIL) architecture for an autonomous sports car. The considered vehicle is an all-wheel drive full-electric single-seater prototype. The retained PIL architecture includes all the modules required for autonomous driving at system level: environment perception, trajectory planning, and control. Specifically, the perception pipeline exploits obstacle detection algorithms based on Artificial Intelligence (AI), and the trajectory planning is based on a modified Rapidly-exploring Random Tree (RRT) algorithm based on Dubins curves, while the vehicle is controlled via a Model Predictive Control (MPC) strategy. The considered PIL layout is implemented firstly using a low-cost card-sized computer for fast code verification purposes. Furthermore, the proposed PIL architecture is compared in terms of performance to an alternative PIL using high-performance real-time target computing machine. Both PIL architectures exploit User Datagram Protocol (UDP) protocol to properly communicate with a personal computer. The latter PIL architecture is validated in real-time using experimental data. Artificial intelligence chips (AICs) are the intersection of integrated circuits and artificial intelligence (AI), involving structure design, algorithm analysis, chip fabrication and application scenarios. Due to their excellent ability in data processing, AICs show a long-term industrial prospect in big data services, cloud centers, etc. However, with the conceivable exhaustion of Moore's Law, the size of traditional electronic AICs (EAICs) is gradually approaching the limit, and an architectural update is highly required. Photonic artificial intelligence chips (PAIC) utilize light beam propagation in the silicon waveguide, contributing to a high parallelism configuration, fast calculation speed and low latency. Due to light manipulation, PAICs perform well in anti-electromagnetic interference and energy conservation. This invited paper summarized the recent research on PAICs. The characteristics of different hardware structures are discussed. The current widely used training algorithm is given and the Photonic Design Automatic (PDA) simulation platform is introduced. In the current manuscript, a novel software application for rapid damage assessment of RC buildings subjected to earthquake excitation is presented based on artificial neural networks. The software integrates the use of a novel deep learning methodology for rapid damage assessment into modern software development platforms, while the developed graphical user interface promotes the ease of use even from non-experts. The aim is to foster actions both in the pre- and post-earthquake phase. The structure of the source code permits the usage of the application either autonomously as a software tool for rapid visual inspections of buildings prior to or after a strong seismic event or as a component of building information modelling systems in the framework of digitizing building data and properties. The methodology implemented for the estimation of the RC buildings' damage states is based on the theory and algorithms of pattern recognition problems. Image edge detection is a difficult task, because it requires the accurate removal of irrelevant pixels, while retaining important pixels that describe the image's structural properties. Here, an artificial plant community algorithm is proposed to aid in the solving of the image edge detection problem. First, the image edge detection problem is modeled as an objective function of an artificial plant community searching for water sources and nutrients. After many iterations, the artificial plant community is concentrated in habitable areas that are rich in water sources and nutrients, that is, the image edges, and the nonhabitable zones that are not suitable for living are deserted, that is, the nonedges. Second, an artificial plant community algorithm is designed to solve the objective function by simulating the growth process of a true plant community. The living behavior of the artificial plant community includes three operations: seeding, growing, and fruiting. The individuals in the plant community also correspond to three forms, namely seeds, individuals, and fruit. There are three fitness comparisons in each iteration. The first fitness comparison of each iteration is carried out during the seeding operation. Only the fruit with higher fitness levels in the last iteration can become seeds, while the fruit with low fitness levels die, and some new seeds are randomly generated. The second fitness comparison is implemented in the growing operation. Only the seeds with higher fitness levels can become individuals, but the seeds with lower fitness levels will die; thus, the community size will decrease. The third fitness comparison is in the fruiting operation, where the individual with the greatest fitness can produce an identical fruit through parthenogenesis, and the individuals with higher fitness levels can learn from each other and produce more fruit, so the population size can be restored. Through the continuous cycle of these three operations, the artificial plant community will finally determine the edge pixels and delete the nonedge pixels. Third, the experiment results reveal how the proposed algorithm generates the edge image, and the comparative results demonstrate that the proposed artificial plant community algorithm can effectively solve the image edge detection problems. Finally, this study and some limitations are summarized, and future directions are suggested. The proposed algorithm is expected to act as a new research tool for solving various complex problems. The main goal of the study is a fully automatic generation of a kidney boundary for each slice in the set of slices obtained in the computed tomography examination. This work describes three main tasks in the process of automatic kidney identification: the initial location of the kidneys using the U-Net convolutional neural network, the generation of an accurate kidney boundary using extended maxima transformation, and the application of the slice scanning algorithm supporting the process of generating the result for the next slice, using the result of the previous one. To assess the quality of the proposed technique of medical image analysis, automatic numerical tests were performed. In the test section, we presented numerical results, calculating the F1-score of kidney boundary detection by an automatic system, compared to the kidneys boundaries manually generated by a human expert from a medical center. The influence of the use of U-Net support in the initial detection of the kidney on the final F1-score of generating the kidney outline was also evaluated. The F1-score achieved by the automated system is 84 %   ±   10 % for the system without U-Net support and 89 %   ±   9 % for the system with U-Net support. Performance tests show that the presented technique can generate the kidney boundary up to 3 times faster than raw U-Net-based network. The proposed kidney recognition system can be successfully used in systems that require a very fast image processing time. The present work focuses on the investigation of an artificial intelligence (AI) algorithm for brightest objects segmentation in night sky images' field of view (FOV). This task is mandatory for many applications that want to focus on the brightest objects in an optical sensor image with a particular shape: point-like or streak. The algorithm is developed as a dedicated application for star sensors both for attitude determination (AD) and onboard space surveillance and tracking (SST) tasks. Indeed, in the former, the brightest objects of most concern are stars, while in the latter they are resident space objects (RSOs). Focusing attention on these shapes, an AI-based segmentation approach can be investigated. This will be carried out by designing, developing and testing a convolutional neural network (CNN)-based algorithm. In particular, a U-Net will be used to tackle this problem. A dataset for the design process of the algorithm, network training and tests is created using both real and simulated images. In the end, comparison with traditional segmentation algorithms will be performed, and results will be presented and discussed together with the proposal of an electro-optical payload for a small satellite for an in-orbit validation (IOV) mission. Periodontitis is one of the most prevalent diseases worldwide. The degree of radiographic bone loss can be used to assess the course of therapy or the severity of the disease. Since automated bone loss detection has many benefits, our goal was to develop a multi-object detection algorithm based on artificial intelligence that would be able to detect and quantify radiographic bone loss using standard two-dimensional radiographic images in the maxillary posterior region. This study was conducted by combining three recent online databases and validating the results using an external validation dataset from our organization. There were 1414 images for training and testing and 341 for external validation in the final dataset. We applied a Keypoint RCNN with a ResNet-50-FPN backbone network for both boundary box and keypoint detection. The intersection over union (IoU) and the object keypoint similarity (OKS) were used for model evaluation. The evaluation of the boundary box metrics showed a moderate overlapping with the ground truth, revealing an average precision of up to 0.758. The average precision and recall over all five folds were 0.694 and 0.611, respectively. Mean average precision and recall for the keypoint detection were 0.632 and 0.579, respectively. Despite only using a small and heterogeneous set of images for training, our results indicate that the algorithm is able to learn the objects of interest, although without sufficient accuracy due to the limited number of images and a large amount of information available in panoramic radiographs. Considering the widespread availability of panoramic radiographs as well as the increasing use of online databases, the presented model can be further improved in the future to facilitate its implementation in clinics. Machine-learning (ML) requires human-labeled "truth" data to train and test. Acquiring and labeling this data can often be the most time-consuming and expensive part of developing trained models of convolutional neural networks (CNN). In this work, we show that an automated workflow using automatically labeled synthetic data can be used to drastically reduce the time and effort required to train a machine learning algorithm for detecting buildings in aerial imagery acquired with low-flying unmanned aerial vehicles. The MSU Autonomous Vehicle Simulator (MAVS) was used in this work, and the process for integrating MAVS into an automated workflow is presented in this work, along with results for building detection with real and simulated images. This study evaluated the axial capacity of cold-formed racking upright sections strengthened with an innovative reinforcement method by finite element modelling and artificial intelligence techniques. At the first stage, several specimens with different lengths, thicknesses and reinforcement spacings were modelled in ABAQUS. The finite element method (FEM) was employed to increase the available datasets and evaluate the proposed reinforcement method in different geometrical types of sections. The most influential factors on the axial strength were investigated using a feature-selection (FS) method within a multi-layer perceptron (MLP) algorithm. The MLP algorithm was developed by particle swarm optimization (PSO) and FEM results as input. In terms of accuracy evaluation, some of the rolling criteria including results showed that geometrical parameters have almost the same contribution in compression capacity and displacement of the specimens. According to the performance evaluation indexes, the best model was detected and specified in the paper and optimised by tuning other parameters of the algorithm. Human healthcare is one of the most important topics for society. It tries to find the correct effective and robust disease detection as soon as possible to patients receipt the appropriate cares. Because this detection is often a difficult task, it becomes necessary medicine field searches support from other fields such as statistics and computer science. These disciplines are facing the challenge of exploring new techniques, going beyond the traditional ones. The large number of techniques that are emerging makes it necessary to provide a comprehensive overview that avoids very particular aspects. To this end, we propose a systematic review dealing with the Machine Learning applied to the diagnosis of human diseases. This review focuses on modern techniques related to the development of Machine Learning applied to diagnosis of human diseases in the medical field, in order to discover interesting patterns, making non-trivial predictions and useful in decision-making. In this way, this work can help researchers to discover and, if necessary, determine the applicability of the machine learning techniques in their particular specialties. We provide some examples of the algorithms used in medicine, analysing some trends that are focused on the goal searched, the algorithm used, and the area of applications. We detail the advantages and disadvantages of each technique to help choose the most appropriate in each real-life situation, as several authors have reported. The authors searched Scopus, Journal Citation Reports (JCR), Google Scholar, and MedLine databases from the last decades (from 1980s approximately) up to the present, with English language restrictions, for studies according to the objectives mentioned above. The world has witnessed the success of artificial intelligence deployment for smart healthcare applications. Various studies have suggested that the prevalence of voice disorders in the general population is greater than 10%. An automatic diagnosis for voice disorders via machine learning algorithms is desired to reduce the cost and time needed for examination by doctors and speech-language pathologists. In this paper, a conditional generative adversarial network (CGAN) and improved fuzzy c-means clustering (IFCM) algorithm called CGAN-IFCM is proposed for the multi-class voice disorder detection of three common types of voice disorders. Existing benchmark datasets for voice disorders, the Saarbruecken Voice Database (SVD) and the Voice ICar fEDerico II Database (VOICED), use imbalanced classes. A generative adversarial network offers synthetic data to reduce bias in the detection model. Improved fuzzy c-means clustering considers the relationship between adjacent data points in the fuzzy membership function. To explain the necessity of CGAN and IFCM, a comparison is made between the algorithm with CGAN and that without CGAN. Moreover, the performance is compared between IFCM and traditional fuzzy c-means clustering. Lastly, the proposed CGAN-IFCM outperforms existing models in its true negative rate and true positive rate by 9.9–12.9% and 9.1–44.8%, respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A system's operational life cycle now includes an integrated health management and diagnostic strategy due to improvements in the current technology. It is evident that the life cycle may be used to identify abnormalities, analyze failures, and forecast future conditions based on current data. Data models can be trained using machine learning and statistical ideas, employing condition data and on-site feedback. Once data models are trained, the data-processing logic can be integrated into onboard controllers, allowing for real-time health evaluation and analysis. Interestingly, the oil and gas industries may encounter numerous obstacles and hurdles as a result of the integration, highlighting the need for creative solutions to the perplexing problem. The potential benefits in terms of challenges involving feature extraction and data classification, machine learning has received significant research attention recently. The application and utility in pump system health management should be investigated to explore the extend it can be used to increase overall system resilience or identify potential financial advantages for maintenance, repair, and overhaul activities. This is seen as an evolving research area, with a variety of application domains. This article present a critical analysis of machine learning's most current advances in the field of artificial intelligence-based system health management, specifically in terms of pump applications in the oil and gas industries. To further understand its potential, various algorithms and related theories are examined. Based on the examined studies, machine learning shows potential for prognostics and defect diagnosis. There are, few drawbacks that is seen to be preventing its widespread adoption which prompt for further improvement. The article discussed possible solutions to the identified drawbacks and future opportunities presented. This study further elaborates on the commonly available commercial machine learning (ML) tools used for pump fault prognostics and diagnostics with an emphasis on the type of data utilized. Findings from the literature review shows that the neural network (NN) is the most prevalent algorithm employed in studies, followed by the Bayesian network (BN), support vector machine (SVM), and hybrid models. While the need for selecting appropriate training algorithms is seen to be significant. Interestingly, no specific method or algorithm exists for a given problem instead the solution relies on the type of data and the algorithm's or method's aptitude for resolving the provided errors. Among the various research studies on pump fault diagnosis and prognosis, the most frequently discussed problem is a bearing fault, with a percentage of 46%, followed by cavitation. The studies rank seal damage as the third most prevalent flaw. Leakage and obstruction are the least studied defects in research. The main data types used in machine learning techniques for diagnosing pump faults are vibration and flow, which might not be sufficient to identify the condition of pumps and their characteristics. The various datasets have been derived from expert opinion, real-world observations, laboratory tests, and computer simulations. Field data have frequently been used to create experimental datasets and simulated data. In comparison to the algorithmic approach, the data approach has not received significant research attention. Cracks are the main damages of concrete structures. Since cracks may occur in areas that are difficult to reach, non-contact measurement technology is required to accurately measure the width of cracks. This study presents an innovative computer vision system combining a camera and laser rangefinder to measure crack width from any angle and at a long distance. To solve the problem of pixel distortion caused by non-vertical photographing, geometric transformation formulas that can calculate the unit pixel length of the image captured at any angle are proposed. The complexity of crack edge calculation and the imbalance of data in the image are other problems that affect measurement accuracy, and a combination of the improved U-net convolutional networks algorithm and Canny edge detection method is adopted to accurately extract the cracks. The measurement results on the different concrete wall indicate that the proposed system can measure the crack in a non-vertical position, and the proposed algorithm can extract the crack from different background images. The modern urban environment is becoming more and more complex. In helping us identify surrounding objects, vehicle vision sensors rely more on the semantic segmentation ability of deep learning networks. The performance of a semantic segmentation network is essential. This factor will directly affect the comprehensive level of driving assistance technology in road environment perception. However, the existing semantic segmentation network has a redundant structure, many parameters, and low operational efficiency. Therefore, to reduce the complexity of the network and reduce the number of parameters to improve the network efficiency, based on the deep learning (DL) theory, a method for efficient image semantic segmentation using Deep Convolutional Neural Network (DCNN) is deeply studied. First, the theoretical basis of the convolutional neural network (CNN) is briefly introduced, and the real-time semantic segmentation technology of urban scenes based on DCNN is recommended in detail. Second, the atrous convolution algorithm and the multi-scale parallel atrous spatial pyramid model are introduced. On the basis of this, an Efficient Symmetric Network (ESNet) of real-time semantic segmentation model for autonomous driving scenarios is proposed. The experimental results show that: (1) On the Cityscapes dataset, the ESNet structure achieves 70.7% segmentation accuracy for the 19 semantic categories set, and 87.4% for the seven large grouping categories. Compared with other algorithms, the accuracy has increased to varying degrees. (2) On the CamVid dataset, compared with segmentation networks of multiple lightweight real-time images, the parameters of the ESNet model are around 1.2 m, the highest FPS value is around 90 Hz, and the highest mIOU value is around 70%. In seven semantic categories, the segmentation accuracy of the ESNet model is the highest at around 98%. From this, we found that the ESNet significantly improves segmentation accuracy while maintaining faster forward inference speed. Overall, the research not only provides technical support for the development of real-time semantic understanding and segmentation of DCNN algorithms but also contributes to the development of artificial intelligence technology. Fake news permeating life through channels misleads people into disinformation. To reduce the harm of fake news and provide multiple and effective news credibility channels, the approach of linguistics is applied to a word-frequency-based ANN system and semantics-based BERT system in this study, using mainstream news as a general news dataset and content farms as a fake news dataset for the models judging news source credibility and comparing the difference in news source credibility recognition between ANN and BERT. The research findings show high similarity in the highest and lowest hit rates between the ANN system and the BERT system (Liberty Time had the highest hit rate, while ETtoday and nooho.net had the lowest hit rates). The BERT system presents a higher and more stable overall source credibility recognition rate than the ANN system (BERT 91.2% > ANN 82.75%). Recognizing news source credibility through artificial intelligence not only could effectively enhance people's sensitivity to news sources but, in the long term, could cultivate public media literacy to achieve the synergy of fake news resistance with technology. Network-on-chip (NoC) is replacing the existing on-chip communication mechanism in the latest, very-large-scale integration (VLSI) systems because of their fault tolerant design. However, in addition to the design challenges, NoC systems require a mechanism for proper application mapping in order to produce maximum benefits in terms of application-level latency, platform energy consumption, and system throughput. Similarly, the neural-network (NN)-based artificial intelligence (AI) techniques for deep learning are gaining particular interest. These applications can be executed on a cloud-based system, but some of these applications have to be executed on private cloud to integrate the data privacy. Furthermore, the public cloud systems can also be made from these NoC platforms to have better application performance. Therefore, there is a need to optimally map these applications on existing NoC-based architectures. If the application is not properly mapped, then it can create a performance hazard that may lead to delay in calculations, increase in energy consumption, and decrease in the platform lifetime. Hence, the real-time applications requiring AI services can implement these algorithms in NoC-based architectures with better real-time performance. In this article, we propose a multilevel mapping of deep learning AI applications on the NoC architectures and show its results for the energy consumption, task distribution profile, latency, and throughput. In the transition to a data-driven society, organizations have introduced data-driven algorithms that often apply artificial intelligence. In this research, an ethical framework was developed to ensure robustness and completeness and to avoid and mitigate potential public uproar. We take a socio-technical perspective, i.e., view the algorithm embedded in an organization with infrastructure, rules, and procedures as one to-be-designed system. The framework consists of five ethical principles: beneficence, non-maleficence, autonomy, justice, and explicability. It can be used during the design for identification of relevant concerns. The framework has been validated by applying it to real-world fraud detection cases: Systeem Risico Indicatie (SyRI) of the Dutch government and the algorithm of the municipality of Amersfoort. The former is a controversial country-wide algorithm that was ultimately prohibited by court. The latter is an algorithm in development. In both cases, it proved effective in identifying all ethical risks. For SyRI, all concerns found in the media were also identified by the framework, mainly focused on transparency of the entire socio-technical system. For the municipality of Amersfoort, the framework highlighted risks regarding the amount of sensitive data and communication to and with the public, presenting a more thorough overview compared to the risks the media raised. This study aims to develop a novel automated computer vision algorithm for quality inspection of surfaces with complex patterns. The proposed algorithm is based on both an autoencoder (AE) and a fully convolutional neural network (FCN). The AE is adopted for the self-generation of templates from test targets for defect detection. Because the templates are produced from the test targets, the position alignment issues for the matching operations between templates and test targets can be alleviated. The FCN is employed for the segmentation of a template into a number of coherent regions. Because the AE has the limitation that its capacities for the regeneration of each coherent region in the template may be different, the segmentation of the template by FCN is beneficial for allowing the inspection of each region to be independently carried out. In this way, more accurate detection results can be achieved. Experimental results reveal that the proposed algorithm has the advantages of simplicity for training data collection, high accuracy for defect detection, and high flexibility for online inspection. The proposed algorithm is therefore an effective alternative for the automated inspection in smart factories with a growing demand for the reliability for high quality production. Counterfactual explanations are viewed as an effective way to explain machine learning predictions. This interest is reflected by a relatively young literature with already dozens of algorithms aiming to generate such explanations. These algorithms are focused on finding how features can be modified to change the output classification. However, this rather general objective can be achieved in different ways, which brings about the need for a methodology to test and benchmark these algorithms. The contributions of this work are manifold: First, a large benchmarking study of 10 algorithmic approaches on 22 tabular datasets is performed, using nine relevant evaluation metrics; second, the introduction of a novel, first of its kind, framework to test counterfactual generation algorithms; third, a set of objective metrics to evaluate and compare counterfactual results; and, finally, insight from the benchmarking results that indicate which approaches obtain the best performance on what type of dataset. This benchmarking study and framework can help practitioners in determining which technique and building blocks most suit their context, and can help researchers in the design and evaluation of current and future counterfactual generation algorithms. Our findings show that, overall, there's no single best algorithm to generate counterfactual explanations as the performance highly depends on properties related to the dataset, model, score, and factual point specificities. Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are being widely utilized for various missions: in both civilian and military sectors. Many of these missions demand UAVs to acquire artificial intelligence about the environments they are navigating in. This perception can be realized by training a computing machine to classify objects in the environment. One of the well known machine training approaches is supervised deep learning, which enables a machine to classify objects. However, supervised deep learning comes with huge sacrifice in terms of time and computational resources. Collecting big input data, pre-training processes, such as labeling training data, and the need for a high performance computer for training are some of the challenges that supervised deep learning poses. To address these setbacks, this study proposes mission specific input data augmentation techniques and the design of light-weight deep neural network architecture that is capable of real-time object classification. Semi-direct visual odometry (SVO) data of augmented images are used to train the network for object classification. Ten classes of 10,000 different images in each class were used as input data where 80% were for training the network and the remaining 20% were used for network validation. For the optimization of the designed deep neural network, a sequential gradient descent algorithm was implemented. To reduce the workload and misjudgment of manually discriminating microseismic events and blasts in mines, an artificial intelligence model called PSO-ELM, based on the extreme learning machine (ELM) optimized by the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm, was applied in this study. Firstly, based on the difference between microseismic events and mine blasts and previous research results, 22 seismic parameters were selected as the discrimination feature parameters and their correlation was analyzed. Secondly, 1600 events were randomly selected from the database of the microseismic monitoring system in Fankou Lead-Zinc Mine to form a sample dataset. Then, the optimal discrimination model was established by investigating the model parameters. Finally, the performance of the model was tested using the sample dataset, and it was compared with the performance of the original ELM model and other commonly used intelligent discrimination models. The results indicate that the discrimination performance of PSO-ELM is the best. The values of the six evaluation indicators are close to the optimal value, which shows that PSO-ELM has great potential for discriminating microseismic events and blasts. The research results obtained can provide a new method for discriminating microseismic events and blasts, and it is of great significance to ensure the safe and smooth operation of mines.
