We have proposed and developed e‐Tile for wall decoration and ornaments for interior/exterior. A prototype of 2 m x 2 m large energy‐saving reflective panel was realized by arraying 400 e‐Tiles on a flat plane. Prototypes of cubic displays were also realized by constructing e‐Tiles to cubic shape. Artistic display effects and 3D impression could be found in these cubic prototypes. Dual screen e‐Paper is expected to be useful when creating documents using reference documents. This study evaluated performances of referencing conditions using paper, e‐Paper, and LCD and suggested that the working conditions using dual screen e‐Paper brought almost the same performance as the working conditions using paper as a reference. We have evaluated performances and subjective impressions of paper, LCD tablet, and e‐Paper during study tasks of reading and writing on each medium. Paper showed general superiority in correct answer rate, processing speed, and most of subjective impression. It should also be noted that e‐Paper showed better correct answer rate than tablet. Abstract Emissive screens are generally believed to be the main reason for eye fatigue when reading text on displays. This study examines the impact on eye fatigue of the reading style and medium: reflective or emissive. We test three media: paper, LCD (liquid crystal display with backlight), and electronic paper (book reader using electrophoretic reflective display). Eye fatigue levels in a reading task are evaluated under two reading styles (free condition and fixed condition) for the three media by measuring the increment in near point distances after each reading task. Subjects were requested to read a novel for 180 min using the three media. The fixed reading condition yielded a statistically significant increase of the near point distance on the three media, while the free condition showed no such increment, regardless of the medium. Projected image on a screen is not always vivid enough when it is projected in a bright room. We generally have to choose either vivid image in a cark room or dull image in a bright room. We have suggested a new projection system which can realize high contrast image projection in a bright room. It is consisted of electronic paper screen, projector, and light-emitting diode room light. The electronic paper (e-Paper) screen alternates its whole surface white/black with 120 Hz. Room lights are controlled with the same frequency of 120 Hz with the opposite phase as that of the e-Paper screen. We have confirmed that our new system has achieved higher contrast than the conventional projection system and also enough readability of paper documents in the room simultaneously.
