One of the most widely used measures of scientific impact is the number of citations. However, due to its heavy-tailed distribution, citations are fundamentally difficult to predict but can be improved. This study was aimed at investigating the factors and parts influencing the citation number of a scientific paper in the otology field. Therefore, this work proposes a new solution that utilizes machine learning and natural language processing to process English text and provides a paper citation as the predicted results. Different algorithms are implemented in this solution, such as linear regression, boosted decision tree, decision forest, and neural networks. The application of neural network regression revealed that papers' abstracts have more influence on the citation numbers of otological articles. This new solution has been developed in visual programming using Microsoft Azure machine learning at the back end and Programming Without Coding Technology at the front end. Stroke is a high morbidity and mortality disease that poses a serious threat to people's health. Early recognition of the various warning signs of stroke is necessary so that timely clinical intervention can help reduce the severity of stroke. Deep neural networks have powerful feature representation capabilities and can automatically learn discriminant features from large amounts of data. This paper uses a range of physiological characteristic parameters and collaborates with deep neural networks, such as the Wasserstein generative adversarial networks with gradient penalty and regression network, to construct a stroke prediction model. Firstly, to address the problem of imbalance between positive and negative samples in the stroke public data set, we performed positive sample data augmentation and utilized WGAN‐GP to generate stroke data with high fidelity and used it for the training of the prediction network model. Then, the relationship between observable physiological characteristic parameters and the predicted risk of suffering a stroke was modeled as a nonlinear mapping transformation, and a stroke prediction model based on a deep regression network was designed. Finally, the proposed method is compared with commonly used machine learning‐based classification algorithms such as decision tree, random forest, support vector machine, and artificial neural networks. The prediction results of the proposed method are optimal in the comprehensive measurement index F. In this paper, an in-depth study and analysis of attribute modelling and knowledge acquisition of massive images are conducted using image recognition. For the complexity of association relationships between attributes of incomplete data, a single-output subnetwork modelling method for incomplete data is proposed to build a neural network model with each missing attribute as output alone and other attributes as input in turn, and the network structure can deeply portray the association relationships between each attribute and other attributes. To address the problem of incomplete model inputs due to the presence of missing values, we propose to treat and describe the missing values as system-level variables and realize the alternate update of network parameters and dynamic filling of missing values through iterative learning among subnets. The method can effectively utilize the information of all the present attribute values in incomplete data, and the obtained subnetwork population model is a fit to the attribute association relationships implied by all the present attribute values in incomplete data. The strengths and weaknesses of existing image semantic modelling algorithms are analysed. To reduce the workload of manually labelling data, this paper proposes the use of a streaming learning algorithm to automatically pass image-level semantic labels to pixel regions of an image, where the algorithm does not need to rely on external detectors and a priori knowledge of the dataset. Then, an efficient deep neural network mapping algorithm is designed and implemented for the microprocessing architecture and software programming framework of this edge processor, and a layout scheme is proposed to place the input feature maps outside the kernel DDR and the reordered convolutional kernel matrices inside the kernel storage body and to design corresponding efficient vectorization algorithms for the multidimensional matrix convolution computation, multidimensional pooling computation, local linear normalization, etc., which exist in the deep convolutional neural network model. Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most generally known neurodegenerative disorder, leading to a steady deterioration in cognitive ability. Deep learning models have shown outstanding performance in the diagnosis of AD, and these models do not need any handcrafted feature extraction over conventional machine learning algorithms. Since the 2012 AlexNet accomplishment, the convolutional neural network (CNN) has been progressively utilized by the medical community to assist practitioners to early diagnose AD. This paper explores the current cutting edge applications of CNN on single and multimodality (combination of two or more modalities) neuroimaging data for the classification of AD. An exhaustive systematic search is conducted on four notable databases: Google Scholar, IEEE Xplore, ACM Digital Library, and PubMed in June 2021. The objective of this study is to examine the effectiveness of classification approaches on AD to analyze different kinds of datasets, neuroimaging modalities, preprocessing techniques, and data handling methods. Water level (WL) forecasting has become a difficult undertaking due to spatiotemporal fluctuations in climatic factors and complex physical processes. This paper proposes a novel hybrid machine learning model based on an artificial neural network (ANN) and the Marine Predators algorithm (MPA) for modeling monthly water levels of the Tigris River in Al-Kut, Iraq. Data preprocessing techniques are employed to enhance data quality and determine the optimal input model. Historical data for water level and climatic factors data are utilized from 2011 to 2020 to build and assess the model. MPA-ANN algorithm's performance is compared with recent constriction coefficient-based particle swarm optimization and chaotic gravitational search algorithm (CPSOCGSA-ANN) and slime mold algorithm (SMA-ANN) to reduce uncertainty and raise the prediction range. The finding demonstrated that singular spectrum analysis is a highly effective method to denoise time series. MPA-ANN outperformed CPSOCGSA-ANN and SMA-ANN algorithms based on different statistical criteria. All organisms contain antimicrobial peptides (AMPs), which are a critical component of the innate immune system. These chemicals have the ability to suppress the growth of a variety of fungi, bacteria, and viruses. Because AMPs interact with structural components of the microbial cell membrane and have a wide range of cellular targets, bacteria are unlikely to be able to develop resistance to them in the short term. The underlying structure of AMPs is critical in determining the selectivity with which they target their respective targets. As far as we know, peptides have not been tested in a lab to see if they can fight bacteria, fungus, and viruses in real life. In this paper, we develop an artificial neural network (ANN) using a back propagation neural network (BPNN) that enables optimal classification of tendency of a peptide sequence that involves the activities of antifungal, antibacterial, or antiviral. The BPNN is trained on the datasets collected across different repositories and then the overfitting is avoided using particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. Hence, at the time of testing, the BPNN clearly finds the predicted samples belonging to the same classes and this avoids the problem of finding the false positives. The simulation is conducted to test the efficacy of the model against various metrics that includes accuracy, precision, recall, and f1-measure. The effectiveness of the BPNN-PSO model in classifying instances at a faster rate than other techniques is demonstrated by its performance. There are many thyroid diseases affecting people all over the world. Many diseases affect the thyroid gland, like hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, and thyroid cancer. Thyroid inefficiency can cause severe symptoms in patients. Effective classification and machine learning play a significant role in the timely detection of thyroid diseases. This timely classification will indeed affect the timely treatment of the patients. Automatic and precise thyroid nodule detection in ultrasound pictures is critical for reducing effort and radiologists' mistake rate. Medical images have evolved into one of the most valuable and consistent data sources for machine learning generation. In this paper, various machine learning algorithms like decision tree, random forest algorithm, KNN, and artificial neural networks on the dataset create a comparative analysis to better predict the disease based on parameters established from the dataset. Also, the dataset has been manipulated for accurate prediction for the classification. The classification was performed on both the sampled and unsampled datasets for better comparison of the dataset. In keratoconus, the cornea assumes a conical shape due to its thinning and protrusion. Early detection of keratoconus is vital in preventing vision loss or costly repairs. In corneal topography maps, curvature and steepness can be distinguished by the colour scales, with warm colours representing curved steep areas and cold colours representing flat areas. With the advent of machine learning algorithms like convolutional neural networks (CNN), the identification and classification of keratoconus from these topography maps have been made faster and more accurate. The classification and grading of keratoconus depend on the colour scales used. Artefacts and minimal variations in the corneal shape, in mild or developing keratoconus, are not represented clearly in the image gradients. Segmentation of the maps needs to be carried out for identifying the severity of the keratoconus as well as for identifying the changes in the severity. In this paper, we are considering the use of particle swarm optimisation and its modifications for segmenting the topography image. Pretrained CNN models are then trained with the dataset and tested. Results show that the performance of the system in terms of accuracy is 95.9% compared to 93%, 95.3%, and 84% available in the literature for a 3-class classification that involved mild keratoconus or forme fruste keratoconus. Aiming at the problem of low accuracy of face detection under complex occlusion conditions, a double-channel occlusion perceptron neural network model was proposed. The area occlusion judgment unit is designed and integrated into the VGG16 network to form an occlusion perceptron neural network. Thereupon, the features of unoccluded regions and less occluded regions in facial images are extracted by the perceptual neural network. Transfer learning algorithm is utilized to pretrain parameters of the convolution layer to reduce the overfitting problem caused by insufficient training data samples. Face features of the whole face were extracted by optimizing the residual network, and then the face features of the occluding perceptron neural network and the residual network were weighted and fused. Experiments were carried out on two open data sets, AR and MAFA. A photoplethysmography method has recently been widely used to noninvasively measure blood volume changes during a cardiac cycle. Photoplethysmogram (PPG) signals are sensitive to artifacts that negatively impact the accuracy of many important measurements. In this paper, we propose an efficient system for detecting PPG signal artifacts acquired from a fingertip in the public healthcare database named Multiparameter Intelligent Monitoring in Intensive Care (MIMIC) by using 11 features as the input of the random forest algorithm and classified the signals into two classes: acceptable and anomalous. A real-time algorithm is proposed to identify artifacts by using the method. The efficient Fisher score feature selection algorithm was used to order and select 11 relevant features from 19 available features that represented the PPG signal very effectively. Six machine learning algorithms (random forest, decision tree, Gaussian naïve Bayes, linear support vector machine, artificial neural network, and probabilistic neural network) were applied with the extracted features, and their classification accuracy was measured. Among them, the random forest had the best performance using only 11 out of 19 features with an accuracy of 85.68%. Our proposed method also achieved good sensitivity and specificity value of 86.57% and 85.09%, respectively. In this paper, an adaptive fuzzy neural network (FNN) is used to construct an intelligent system architecture for English learning, and activation function is used to apply the knowledge of computer science and linguistics to English learning. The network neural structure diagram is presented. English machine learning model framework is established based on recursive neural network. On this basis, feature vector extraction and normalization algorithm are used to meet the needs of neural network model. After acquiring the feature vectors of users' learning styles, the clustering algorithm is used to effectively form a variety of learning styles. The validity of the English learning model was verified by designing the functional flow based on tests. k nearest neighbor (k NN) is a simple and widely used classifier; it can achieve comparable performance with more complex classifiers including decision tree and artificial neural network. Therefore, k NN has been listed as one of the top 10 algorithms in machine learning and data mining. On the other hand, in many classification problems, such as medical diagnosis and intrusion detection, the collected training sets are usually class imbalanced. In class imbalanced data, although positive examples are heavily outnumbered by negative ones, positive examples usually carry more meaningful information and are more important than negative examples. Similar to other classical classifiers, k NN is also proposed under the assumption that the training set has approximately balanced class distribution, leading to its unsatisfactory performance on imbalanced data. In addition, under a class imbalanced scenario, the global resampling strategies that are suitable to decision tree and artificial neural network often do not work well for k NN, which is a local information-oriented classifier. To solve this problem, researchers have conducted many works for k NN over the past decade. This paper presents a comprehensive survey of these works according to their different perspectives and analyzes and compares their characteristics. The Industry 4.0 revolution is insisting strongly for use of machine learning-based processes and condition monitoring. In this paper, emphasis is given on machine learning-based approach for condition monitoring of shaft misalignment. This work highlights combined approach of artificial neural network and support vector machine for identification and measure of shaft misalignment. The measure of misalignment requires more features to be extracted under variable load conditions. Hence, primary objective is to measure misalignment with a minimum number of extracted features. This is achieved through normalization of vibration signal. An experimental setup is prepared to collect the required vibration signals. The normalized time domain nonstationary signals are given to discrete wavelet transform for features extraction. The extracted features such as detailed coefficient is considered for feature selection viz. Skewness, Kurtosis, Max, Min, Root mean square, and Entropy. The ReliefF algorithm is used to decide best feature on rank basis. The ratio of maximum energy to Shannon entropy is used in wavelet selection. The best feature is used to train machine learning algorithm. The rank-based feature selection has improved classification accuracy of support vector machine. At present, early lung cancer screening is mainly based on radiologists' experience in diagnosing benign and malignant pulmonary nodules by lung CT images. On the other hand, intraoperative rapid freezing pathology needs to analyse the invasive adenocarcinoma nodules with the worst recovery in adenocarcinoma. Moreover, rapid freezing pathology has a low diagnostic accuracy for small-diameter nodules. Because of the above problems, an algorithm for diagnosing invasive adenocarcinoma nodules in ground-glass pulmonary nodules is based on CT images. According to the nodule space information and plane features, sample data of different dimensions are designed, namely, 3D space and 2D plane feature samples. The network structure is designed based on the attention mechanism and residual learning unit; 2D and 3D neural networks are along built. By fusing the feature vectors extracted from networks of different dimensions, the diagnosis results of invasive adenocarcinoma nodules are finally obtained. The algorithm was studied on 1760 ground-glass nodules with 5-20 mm diameter collected from a city chest hospital with surgical and pathological results. There were 340 nodules with invasive adenocarcinoma and 340 with noninvasive adenocarcinoma. A total of 1420 invasive nodule samples were cross-validated on this example dataset. Computational drug repositioning, designed to identify new indications for existing drugs, significantly reduced the cost and time involved in drug development. Prediction of drug-disease associations is promising for drug repositioning. Recent years have witnessed an increasing number of machine learning-based methods for calculating drug repositioning. In this paper, a novel feature learning method based on Gaussian interaction profile kernel and autoencoder (GIPAE) is proposed for drug-disease association. In order to further reduce the computation cost, both batch normalization layer and the full-connected layer are introduced to reduce training complexity. The experimental results of 10-fold cross validation indicate that the proposed method achieves superior performance on Fdataset and Cdataset with the AUCs of 93.30% and 96.03%, respectively, which were higher than many previous computational models. To further assess the accuracy of GIPAE, we conducted case studies on two complex human diseases. The top 20 drugs predicted, 14 obesity-related drugs, and 11 drugs related to Alzheimer's disease were validated in the CTD database. As a new brain-inspired computational model of artificial neural networks, spiking neural networks transmit and process information via precisely timed spike trains. Constructing efficient learning methods is a significant research field in spiking neural networks. In this paper, we present a supervised learning algorithm for multilayer feedforward spiking neural networks; all neurons can fire multiple spikes in all layers. The feedforward network consists of spiking neurons governed by biologically plausible long-term memory spike response model, in which the effect of earlier spikes on the refractoriness is not neglected to incorporate adaptation effects. The gradient descent method is employed to derive synaptic weight updating rule for learning spike trains. The proposed algorithm is tested and verified on spatiotemporal pattern learning problems, including a set of spike train learning tasks and nonlinear pattern classification problems on four UCI datasets. With the rapid development of deep learning algorithms, it is gradually applied in UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) driving, visual recognition, target tracking, behavior recognition, and other fields. In the field of sports, many scientists put forward the research of target tracking and recognition technology based on deep learning algorithms for athletes' trajectory and behavior capture. Based on the target tracking algorithm, a regional proposal network RPN algorithm combined with the twin regional proposal network Siamese algorithm is proposed to study the tracking and recognition technology of athletes' behavior. Then, the adaptive updating network is used to track the behavior target of athletes, and the simulation model of behavior recognition is established. This algorithm is different from the traditional twin network algorithm. It can accurately take the athlete's behavior as the target candidate box in model training and reduce the interference of environment and other factors on model recognition. The results show that the Siamese-RPN algorithm can reduce the interference from the background and environment when tracking the athletes' target behavior trajectory. This algorithm can improve the training behavior recognition model, ignore the background interference elements of the behavior image, and improve the accuracy and overall performance of the model. Compared with the traditional twin network method for sports behavior recognition, the Siamese-RPN algorithm studied in this paper can perform offline operations and distinguish the interference factors of athletes' background environment. This paper discusses the stabilizability of artificial neural networks trained by utilizing the gradient information. The method proposed constructs a dynamic model of the conventional update mechanism and derives the stabilizing values of the learning rate. The stability in this context corresponds to the convergence in adjustable parameters of the neural network structure. It is shown that the selection of the learning rate as imposed by the proposed algorithm results in stable training in the sense of Lyapunov. Furthermore, the algorithm devised filters out the high frequency dynamics of the gradient descent method. The excitation of this dynamics typically occurs in the presence of noise and abruptly changing the parameters of the mapping being learned. This adversely influences the learning performance that can be attained during a training cycle. A natural consequence following this excitation is divergence in parameter space. The method analyzed in this paper integrates the gradient descent technique with variable structure systems methodology, which is well known for its robustness to environmental disturbances. In the simulations, control of a three degrees of freedom anthropoid robot is chosen for the evaluation of the performance. For this purpose, a feedforward neural network structure is utilized as the controller. Highly nonlinear dynamics of the plant, existence of a considerable amount of observation noise, and the adverse effects of gravitational forces constitute the difficulties to be alleviated by the neurocontroller trained with the proposed method. The diagnosis and treatment of patients in the healthcare industry are greatly aided by data analytics. Massive amounts of data should be handled using machine learning approaches to provide tools for prediction and categorization to support practitioner decision-making. Based on the kind of tumor, disorders like breast cancer can be categorized. The difficulties associated with evaluating vast amounts of data should be overcome by discovering an efficient method for categorization. Based on the Bayesian method, we analyzed the influence of clinic pathological indicators on the prognosis and survival rate of breast cancer patients and compared the local resection value directly using the lymph node ratio (LNR) and the overall value using the LNR differences in effect between estimates. Logistic regression was used to estimate the overall LNR of patients. After that, a probabilistic Bayesian classifier-based dynamic regression model for prognosis analysis is built to capture the dynamic effect of multiple clinic pathological markers on patient prognosis. The dynamic regression model employing the total estimated value of LNR had the best fitting impact on the data, according to the simulation findings. In comparison to other models, this model has the greatest overall survival forecast accuracy. These prognostic techniques shed light on the nodal survival and status particular to the patient. Brain cancer is one of the cell synthesis diseases. Brain cancer cells are analyzed for patient diagnosis. Due to this composite cell, the conceptual classifications differ from each and every brain cancer investigation. In the gene test, patient prognosis is identified based on individual biocell appearance. Classification of advanced artificial neural network subtypes attains improved performance compared to previous enhanced artificial neural network (EANN) biocell subtype investigation. In this research, the proposed features are selected based on improved gene expression programming (IGEP) with modified brute force algorithm. Then, the maximum and minimum term survivals are classified by using PCA with enhanced artificial neural network (EANN). In this, the improved gene expression programming (IGEP) effectual features are selected by using remainder performance to improve the prognosis efficiency. This system is estimated by using the Cancer Genome Atlas (CGA) dataset. Simulation outputs present improved gene expression programming (IGEP) with modified brute force algorithm which achieves accurate efficiency of 96.37%, specificity of 96.37%, sensitivity of 98.37%, precision of 78.78%, F -measure of 80.22%, and recall of 64.29% when compared to generalized regression neural network (GRNN), improved extreme learning machine (IELM) with minimum redundancy maximum relevance (MRMR) method, and support vector machine (SVM). After primary treatment of localized prostate carcinoma (PC), up to a third of patients have disease recurrence. Different predictive models have already been used either for initial stratification of PC patients or to predict disease recurrence. Recently, artificial intelligence has been introduced in the diagnosis and management of PC with a potential to revolutionize this field. The aim of this study was to analyze machine learning (ML) classifiers in order to predict disease progression in the moment of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) elevation during follow-up. The study cohort consisted of 109 PC patients treated with external beam radiotherapy alone or in combination with androgen deprivation therapy. We developed and evaluated the performance of two ML algorithms based on artificial neural networks (ANN) and naïve Bayes (NB). Of all patients, 72.5% was randomly selected for a training set while the remaining patients were used for testing of the models. The presence/absence of disease progression was defined as the output variable. The input variables for models were conducted from the univariate analysis preformed among two groups of patients in the training set. They included two pretreatment variables (UICC stage and Gleason's score risk group) and five posttreatment variables (nadir PSA, time to nadir PSA, PSA doubling time, PSA velocity, and PSA in the moment of disease reevaluation). The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, and predictive accuracy was calculated to test the models' performance. The results showed that specificity was similar for both models, while NB achieved better sensitivity then ANN (100.0% versus 94.4%). A deep recurrent neural network (RNN) for reducing transient sounds was developed and its effects on subjective speech intelligibility and listening comfort were investigated. The RNN was trained using sentences spoken with different accents and corrupted by transient sounds, using the clean speech as the target. It was tested using sentences spoken by unseen talkers and corrupted by unseen transient sounds. A paired-comparison procedure was used to compare all possible combinations of three conditions for subjective speech intelligibility and listening comfort for two relative levels of the transients. The conditions were: no processing (NP); processing using the RNN; and processing using a multi-channel transient reduction method (MCTR). Ten participants with normal hearing and ten with mild-to-moderate hearing loss participated. For the latter, frequency-dependent linear amplification was applied to all stimuli to compensate for individual audibility losses. For the normal-hearing participants, processing using the RNN was significantly preferred over that for NP for subjective intelligibility and comfort, processing using the RNN was significantly preferred over that for MCTR for subjective intelligibility, and processing using the MCTR was significantly preferred over that for NP for comfort for the higher transient level only. For the hearing-impaired participants, processing using the RNN was significantly preferred over that for NP for both subjective intelligibility and comfort, processing using the RNN was significantly preferred over that for MCTR for comfort, and processing using the MCTR was significantly preferred over that for NP for comfort. Biosurfactants are a series of organic compounds that are composed of two parts, hydrophobic and hydrophilic, and since they have properties such as less toxicity and biodegradation, they are widely used in the food industry. Important applications include healthy products, oil recycling, and biological refining. In this research, to calculate the curves of rhamnolipid adsorption compared to Amberlite XAD-2, the least-squares vector machine algorithm has been used. Then, the obtained model is formed by 204 adsorption data points. Various graphical and statistical approaches are applied to ensure the correctness of the model output. The findings of this study are compared with studies that have used artificial neural network (ANN) and data group management method (GMDH) models. The model used in this study has a lower percentage of absolute mean deviation than ANN and GMDH models, which is estimated to be 1.71%.The least-squares support vector machine (LSSVM) is very valuable for investigating the breakthrough curve of rhamnolipid, and it can also be used to help chemists working on biosurfactants. Cardiac computed tomography angiography (CCTA) is widely used as a diagnostic tool for evaluation of coronary artery disease (CAD). Despite the excellent capability to rule-out CAD, CCTA may overestimate the degree of stenosis; furthermore, CCTA analysis can be time consuming, often requiring advanced postprocessing techniques. In consideration of the most recent ESC guidelines on CAD management, which will likely increase CCTA volume over the next years, new tools are necessary to shorten reporting time and improve the accuracy for the detection of ischemia-inducing coronary lesions. The application of artificial intelligence (AI) may provide a helpful tool in CCTA, improving the evaluation and quantification of coronary stenosis, plaque characterization, and assessment of myocardial ischemia. Furthermore, in comparison with existing risk scores, machine-learning algorithms can better predict the outcome utilizing both imaging findings and clinical parameters. Medical AI is moving from the research field to daily clinical practice, and with the increasing number of CCTA examinations, AI will be extensively utilized in cardiac imaging. Background. Next-generation sequencing enables massively parallel processing, allowing lower cost than the other sequencing technologies. In the subsequent analysis with the NGS data, one of the major concerns is the reliability of variant calls. Although researchers can utilize raw quality scores of variant calling, they are forced to start the further analysis without any preevaluation of the quality scores. Method. We presented a machine learning approach for estimating quality scores of variant calls derived from BWA+GATK. We analyzed correlations between the quality score and these annotations, specifying informative annotations which were used as features to predict variant quality scores. To test the predictive models, we simulated 24 paired-end Illumina sequencing reads with 30x coverage base. Also, twenty-four human genome sequencing reads resulting from Illumina paired-end sequencing with at least 30x coverage were secured from the Sequence Read Archive. Results. Using BWA+GATK, VCFs were derived from simulated and real sequencing reads. We observed that the prediction models learned by RFR outperformed other algorithms in both simulated and real data. The quality scores of variant calls were highly predictable from informative features of GATK Annotation Modules in the simulated human genome VCF data (R2: 96.7%, 94.4%, and 89.8% for RFR, MLR, and NNR, respectively). The robustness of the proposed data-driven models was consistently maintained in the real human genome VCF data (R2: 97.8% and 96.5% for RFR and MLR, respectively). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Sleep apnea (SA) is a ubiquitous sleep-related respiratory disease. It can occur hundreds of times at night, and its long-term occurrences can lead to some serious cardiovascular and neurological diseases. Polysomnography (PSG) is a commonly used diagnostic device for SA. But it requires suspected patients to sleep in the lab for one to two nights and records about 16 signals through expert monitoring. The complex processes hinder the widespread implementation of PSG in public health applications. Recently, some researchers have proposed using a single-lead ECG signal for SA detection. These methods are based on the hypothesis that the SA relies only on the current ECG signal segment. However, SA has time dependence; that is, the SA of the ECG segment at the previous moment has an impact on the current SA diagnosis. In this study, we develop a time window artificial neural network that can take advantage of the time dependence between ECG signal segments and does not require any prior assumptions about the distribution of training data. By verifying on a real ECG signal dataset, the performance of our method has been significantly improved compared to traditional non-time window machine learning methods as well as previous works. The aim of this study is to assess the performance of two machine-learning technologies, namely, deep learning (DL) and support vector machine (SVM) algorithms, for detecting central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO) in ultrawide-field fundus images. Images from 125 CRVO patients (n=125 images) and 202 non-CRVO normal subjects (n=238 images) were included in this study. Training to construct the DL model using deep convolutional neural network algorithms was provided using ultrawide-field fundus images. The SVM uses scikit-learn library with a radial basis function kernel. The diagnostic abilities of DL and the SVM were compared by assessing their sensitivity, specificity, and area under the curve (AUC) of the receiver operating characteristic curve for CRVO. For diagnosing CRVO, the DL model had a sensitivity of 98.4% (95% confidence interval (CI), 94.3–99.8%) and a specificity of 97.9% (95% CI, 94.6–99.1%) with an AUC of 0.989 (95% CI, 0.980–0.999). In contrast, the SVM model had a sensitivity of 84.0% (95% CI, 76.3–89.3%) and a specificity of 87.5% (95% CI, 82.7–91.1%) with an AUC of 0.895 (95% CI, 0.859–0.931). Thus, the DL model outperformed the SVM model in all indices assessed (P<0.001 for all). Our data suggest that a DL model derived using ultrawide-field fundus images could distinguish between normal and CRVO images with a high level of accuracy and that automatic CRVO detection in ultrawide-field fundus ophthalmoscopy is possible. This proposed DL-based model can also be used in ultrawide-field fundus ophthalmoscopy to accurately diagnose CRVO and improve medical care in remote locations where it is difficult for patients to attend an ophthalmic medical center.
