Simple Summary: Neuroblastoma is a rare type of cancer that usually affects children. The high-risk patients' expected survival rate is less than 50%. One reason is the lack of precision in the standard treatment protocol: a one-size-fits-all multi-modal therapy. The study presented in this paper was designed to address this deficit by optimising the use of two chemotherapeutic agents—vincristine and cyclophosphamide—during induction chemotherapy—the part of the protocol that shrinks the primary tumour before surgical removal. We combined a mathematical model and an optimisation algorithm to identify the best chemotherapy schedules for a cohort of virtual patients with different initial tumour compositions. Our results reveal novel strategies to exploit a pair of drugs with different levels of efficacy, provide a platform on which to individualise induction chemotherapy, and lay the foundation for a personalised therapy that leverages targeted therapies, multi-region sequencing, liquid biopsies, and modern computational methods to improve today's multi-modal therapy. Neuroblastoma is the most common extra-cranial solid tumour in children. Despite multi-modal therapy, over half of the high-risk patients will succumb. One contributing factor is the one-size-fits-all nature of multi-modal therapy. For example, during the first step (induction chemotherapy), the standard regimen (rapid COJEC) administers fixed doses of chemotherapeutic agents in eight two-week cycles. Perhaps because of differences in resistance, this standard regimen results in highly heterogeneous outcomes in different tumours. In this study, we formulated a mathematical model comprising ordinary differential equations. The equations describe the clonal evolution within a neuroblastoma tumour being treated with vincristine and cyclophosphamide, which are used in the rapid COJEC regimen, including genetically conferred and phenotypic drug resistance. The equations also describe the agents' pharmacokinetics. We devised an optimisation algorithm to find the best chemotherapy schedules for tumours with different pre-treatment clonal compositions. The optimised chemotherapy schedules exploit the cytotoxic difference between the two drugs and intra-tumoural clonal competition to shrink the tumours as much as possible during induction chemotherapy and before surgical removal. They indicate that induction chemotherapy can be improved by finding and using personalised schedules. More broadly, we propose that the overall multi-modal therapy can be enhanced by employing targeted therapies against the mutations and oncogenic pathways enriched and activated by the chemotherapeutic agents. To translate the proposed personalised multi-modal therapy into clinical use, patient-specific model calibration and treatment optimisation are necessary. This entails a decision support system informed by emerging medical technologies such as multi-region sequencing and liquid biopsies. This paper proposes a new decentralized data-driven load restoration (DDLR) scheme for transmission and distribution (TD) systems with high penetration of wind power. Robust DDLR models are constructed in order to handle uncertainties and ensure the feasibility of decentralized schemes. The Wasserstein metric is used to describe the ambiguity sets of probability distributions in order to build the complete DDLR model and realize computationally tractable formulation. A data-driven model-nested analytical target cascading (DATC) algorithm is developed to obtain the final load restoration result by iteratively solving small-scale mathematical models. The proposed DDLR scheme provides load restoration results with adjustable robustness, and performance efficiency is independent from the amount of data. The DDLR scheme makes full use of the available data while respecting information privacy requirements of independent operated systems, and ensures the feasibility of a decentralized load restoration strategy even in the worst-case condition. The effectiveness of the proposed method is validated using a small-scale TD system and a large-scale system with the IEEE 118-bus TS and thirty IEEE-33 DSs, showing high computational efficiency and superior restoration performance. The generation of mathematical models for the analysis of buildings with multiple thermal zones is a large and complex task. Furthermore, the order and complexity of the dynamical model are increased by the number of included thermal zones. To overcome this problem, this paper presents an algorithm to define the mathematical model automatically, using the geometric and physics parameters as inputs. Additionally, the spatial position of each thermal zone must be recorded in an arrangement called a contact matrix. The algorithm for modeling systems with multiple thermal zones is the main contribution of this work. This algorithm is presented in pseudocode format and as an annex, an implementation in MATLAB software. One of the advantages of this methodology is that it allows us to work with parallelepipeds and not necessarily cubic thermal zones. The algorithm allows us to generate mathematical models with symbolic variables, starting from the knowledge of how many thermal zones compose the system and its geometric organization. This information must be organized in a matrix arrangement called a contact matrix. Different arrays of thermal zones were constructed with wooden boxes to verify the functionality of the models generated with the algorithm. Each case provided information that allowed us to adjust the mathematical models and their simulations, obtaining a range of errors between experimental and simulated temperatures from 2.08 to 5.6 , depending on the number of thermal zones studied. This paper proposes an image enhancement algorithm based on the theory of image segmentation and image frequency. First, a mathematical model corresponding to the pixel frequency is established by using the difference of pigment values between the pixels in the image and the surrounding pixels (i.e., pixel receptive field). Then, the image is divided into the low frequency region (background area), low-medium frequency region (foreground area), medium-high frequency region (target area) and high frequency region (detail area) by a pixel frequency characteristic graph. Gamma correction, MSRCR, MSR, top hat + bottom hat are used for image enhancement for each area, and then the parts are merged. Three indicators of PSNR, SSIM, and MSE are introduced to evaluate the quality of the enhanced image. The results show that the image enhanced by this algorithm has the highest PSNR and SSIM values and the lowest MSE value, indicating that the enhancement effect of this algorithm is better. The paper aims to present an integrated approach to solve the decision-making problem under the probabilistic hesitant fuzzy information (PHFI) features, which is an extension of the hesitant fuzzy set. The considered PHFI not only allows multiple opinions, but also associates occurrence probability to each opinion, which increases the reliability of the information. Motivated by these features of PHFI, an approach is presented to solve the decision problem with partial known information about the attribute and expert weights. In addition, an algorithm for finding some missing values in the preference information is presented and stated their properties. Afterward, the Hamy mean operator has been used to aggregate the different collective information into a single one. Also, we presented a COPRAS method to the PHFI for ranking the given alternatives. The presented algorithm has been demonstrated through a case study of cloud vendor selection and its validity has been revealed by comparing the approach results with the several existing algorithm results. Scientific workflows are used to process large amounts of data and perform complex analyses; thus, they require powerful computing resources to produce the desired results in an acceptable time and at reasonable costs. For this purpose, distributed resources such as cloud computing, with access to virtualized, infinite, and elastic resources are used to execute the workflows. For mapping tasks to computational resources, the problem must be modeled as a scheduling problem. The algorithm presented in this research is a hybrid algorithm based on a mathematical model called MHPSLP that performs the scheduling problem by breaking the problem into smaller subsets including scheduling bags of tasks, providing resources using an mixed integer linear mathematical (MILP) model. A sparse layout problem for clusters formed by irregular 3D objects is introduced. The shape of a 3D cluster is represented as a convex hull of the objects inside the cluster. The objects in the cluster may have different irregular shapes, can be freely translated and rotated and must be placed in the cluster without mutual overlapping. Each irregular 3D object in the cluster is composed by a union of basic convex 3D objects. The clusters must be placed in a container without mutual overlapping. The objective is to maximize the distance between the 3D clusters. New geometric tools to describe analytically nonoverlapping, containment and distance constraints for 3D clusters are introduced. The sparse layout problem is formulated as a nonlinear nonconvex continuous programming problem. A solution algorithm is proposed, and computational results are provided. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Mathematical model of the spread of a virus in trains which considers transmission of infection from two types of sick passengers (clearly infected and latently infected) was built and named SEI (Susceptible-Exposed-Infected) model. Ventilation and movements of the passengers inside the train are considered through the porous medium equation. An algorithm for filling empty seats in the train is developed. A route of ten hours duration with two stop stations was simulated. The results of numerical calculations allow to conclude that asymptomatic infected passengers are the most dangerous group in the spread of infection. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Roll-to-roll (R2R) printing systems provide a continuous process of thin, flexible material (called web) through printing cylinders, where the required patterns are printed on the web. Tension fluctuation caused by the upstream register control quantity may lead to the downstream register errors. Thus, it is a challenge to develop a register control algorithm to remove the couplings among the angular velocity, tension fluctuation, and register error. In this article, the register error is defined as the marks position misalignment between the first and the current printing unit. Based on the definition, a mathematical model of registration is derived. Based on the model, a fully decoupled proportional-derivative (FDPD) control algorithm is proposed to completely remove the coupling between the upstream register control quantity and the downstream register error. Simulations and experiments are carried out to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control algorithm. Compared with the other compensation control methods, FDPD is a complete decoupling control method, which can control the register errors of all downstream printing units (more than seven printing units) within $\pm 0.05$ mm, even if the upstream printing unit has a 3 mm register error. Decoupling formula included in the FDPD control is a first-order compensation formula, which is easy to implement in the actual industry. Furthermore, the proposed FDPD can deal with the situation where two adjacent gravure cylinders have different web lengths, which is not taken into account by other control methods. Fault localization is one of the most important issues for the modular multilevel converters (MMC) consisting of lots of switches. This article proposes a switch open-circuit fault localization strategy for the MMC, where a sliding-time window (STW) based features extraction algorithm (FEA) is proposed to extract the features of the MMC based on the feature relationship between neighboring STWs. Based on the extracted features, the fault in the MMC can be easily located with the 2-D convolutional neural networks. The proposed STW-FEA-based fault localization strategy can constructs concise low-data-volume features samples for the MMC in both time domain and frequency domain, and accordingly it can locate the fault with short time and high accuracy for the MMC. In addition, it does not require the creation of complex mathematical models and manual setting of empirical thresholds. This letter proposes a method to determine the optimal shift frequency (OSF) for shifted frequency (SF)-based simulation. The SF-based simulation algorithm is briefly introduced, and the error of SF-based simulation is quantitatively analyzed. The OSF that minimizes the error is deduced, which can improve the simulation accuracy. Furthermore, the influence of time-step size on the OSF is investigated.
