Unlike popular multiband antenna array radiation based on either electric or magnetic surface currents, the use of mutually interleaved and tightly coupled electric and magnetic currents results in an aperture-reuse space-efficient multiband radiating surface for highly integrated antenna-frontend architecture and spatial power combining design scenarios. In this work, slot and dipole modes corresponding to magnetic and electric currents are effectively interleaved and excited in a surface to develop a space-efficient dual-wideband aperture-shared radiating surface. In this case, due to an effective reuse of the antenna aperture over both frequency bands, a high aperture-reuse efficiency is achieved. First, we devise a planar magneto-electric (ME)-dipole-alike antenna and analyze it in both the frequency and time domain. The antenna is then studied by the characteristic mode theory and the findings are validated using full-wave simulations. The developed planar ME-dipole-alike antenna is used to realize a dual-wideband radiating surface in which electric and magnetic currents are mutually coupled and interlaced, which is excited by properly oriented and distributed sources on the antenna's surface. Eventually, a highly isolated dual-wideband prototype was developed and fabricated using a cost-effective multi-layer Printed Circuit Board (PCB) process that operates in the Ku-band with both impedance and gain bandwidth of approximately 42% and in the Ka-band with respective impedance and gain bandwidth of 29% and 16.32%. In this paper, a compact leaky-wave planer antenna is proposed. The proposed antenna fabricated by the printed circuit board technology can scan a large part of its upper half-space. The proposed antenna consists of a metallic six-pointed star on a regular hexagon. The back of the hexagon is wholly covered with a conductor. The structure's detailed design and analysis have been done using the dispersion diagram. In the proposed antenna, changing the frequency can steer the main beam in elevation at six-step angles of azimuth. The simulation and measurement results confirm the theory well. Wideband operation is a crucial topic in patch structure research. Various wideband methods have been developed for patch antennas. However, some of the key benefits of patch antennas, such as semi‐space radiation and easy fabrication, are degraded. In this study, we refer to the planar inverted‐F antenna (PIFA) and propose a co‐plane terminal loading strategy, resulting in an antenna model termed the co‐plane terminal loaded antenna (CTLA). It transforms the dipole‐to‐background metallic via in PIFA to a dipole‐to‐feed gap in CTLA. Because the gap is a coupling connection, the impedance‐match and resonant‐frequency performance improve, resulting in a wider bandwidth. Based on the proposed approach, three CTLAs, including an original CTLA, an improved CTLA, and a multi‐path CTLA, were constructed and simulated, with relative bandwidths of 63.5%, 55%, and 62%, respectively. The radiation pattern is typically patch‐like, radiating in semi‐space, and hybrid polarisation over the working band. Finally, the improved and multi‐path CTLAs are fabricated and measured to validate this method and ensure that the results are consistent with the simulation results accurately. Summary: In this research work, the design and analysis of a compact microstrip antenna having a monopole structure with 64.86% of wide bandwidth is presented. The main radiator of the structure is a fractal‐based geometry with the shape of a half‐Koch snowflake, and the ground plane is partial (defected ground). The design methodology of the antenna is presented using analytical modeling, and the structure prototype is fabricated to verify the performance. Measurement outcomes confirm the −10 dB bandwidth in range of 4–7.84 GHz, thus covering approximately the C‐band with omnidirectional radiation patterns. The proposed antenna shows a peak realized gain of 3.4 dBi at 7.2 GHz and has an overall dimension of 0.33λ × 0.49λ × 0.03λ, at 5.8 GHz. The structure is found compact compared to some recently reported designs and the read range is found to be 1.98 cm at 5.8 GHz. This paper presents a new optimization algorithm that efficiently can optimize the beamforming of the linear and planar antenna arrays. The new algorithm is called the corrosion diffusion optimization algorithm (CDOA) because its concept is concluded from the behavior of the corrosion distribution on the metal surfaces. The general performance of the new algorithm is compared with some other important algorithms via some standard benchmark functions. This comparison results in about 100% success rate for the proposed algorithm with high execution speed and low complexity compared to the other algorithms. Subsequently, CDOA is applied to solve some of the antenna array beamforming problems by optimizing the amplitude of the antenna weights vector and/or the inter-element spacing between the elements of the array. The algorithm results in a side lobe ratio larger than 22 dB in solving the problem of enhancing the side lobe ratio. Besides, CDOA operates efficiently in generating a flat top and triangular beam shaping with enhanced side lobe ratio. Furthermore, all the jamming signals are perfectly eliminated in the anti-jamming antenna array system when optimizing the weights vector of the array using the proposed algorithm. Developing contemporary antennas is a challenging endeavor that requires considerable engineering insight. The most laborious stage is to devise an antenna architecture that delivers the required functionalities, e.g., multiband operation. Iterative by nature (hands-on topology modifications, parametric studies, trial-and-error geometry selection), it typically takes many weeks and requires considerable engagement from a human expert. Consequently, only a few possible design options concerning the fundamental antenna geometry may be considered. Automated topology rendition and geometry parameter optimization are highly relevant, especially from the industrial perspective. Therein, reducing time-to-market and limiting the involvement of trained experts is critical. This research proposes an innovative procedure for unsupervised development of planar antennas. Our method leverages flexible antenna parameterization based on re-sizable elliptical patches. It permits the realization of a massive number of geometries of diverse shapes and complexities using a small number of decision variables. Computational intelligence methods are employed to conduct antenna evolution exclusively based on specifications and possible constraints (e.g., maximum size). Fine-tuning of the structure geometry is achieved through low-cost local search routines. Our methodology is demonstrated by designing several antennas featuring distinct characteristics (broadband, single-, dual- and triple-band). The obtained results, supported by experimental data, underscore the presented approach's versatility and capability to render unconventional topologies at reasonably low computational expenses. This work presents a knowledge-based decision-making robust antenna design (KDRAD) method that employs a heuristic-optimisation technique for antenna design. The method is used to create and scale a single-element antenna to operate at multiple frequencies within the 5 G range. In this study, a low-profile planar four-element microstrip antenna of 14.8 mm × 14.8 mm × 0.508 mm gives simulated and measured impedance bandwidths of about 1.18 GHz (26.43–27.61 GHz) and 1.08 GHz (26.42–27.50 GHz), respectively, with a centre frequency of 27 GHz. The mm-wave planar four-port antenna has a maximum gain of 7.2 dBi; isolation of 33.2 dB; and multiple antenna matrices with minimal ECC (0.000000109), high diversity gain (10 dB) and channel capacity loss of 0.00110 bits/s/Hz. ABSTRACT A compact eight‐port MIMO structure containing planar inverted‐F antennas (PIFAs) as radiating elements is designed for 5G cellular communication applications within the sub‐6 GHz band. The proposed antenna consists of four radiating elements that are placed at four corners on the same plane of geometry. The overall dimension of the ground plane is considered to be 59 mm × 120 mm to make it convenient for modern smart mobile handsets. Each radiating element has 2‐feeding plates, which are situated perpendicular to each other in orientation to make the arrangement cross‐polarized, which in turn exploits polarization diversity as well as spatial diversity among the combination of different radiating elements. The patches are structured by embedding rectangular slots in a meandered shape, and the ground plane is configured by introducing rectangular slots and narrow metallic strips. The prototype of the prescribed MIMO PIFA model has been fabricated and experimentally tested. It shows multi‐band operations (3.27–3.37, 4.16–4.35, 4.93–5.06, and 5.47–5.68 GHz) within the sub‐6 GHz spectrum. The isolation among various patches is observed within the range of −35 dB to −42 dB. The peak gain reaches around 8.1 dBi. The designed MIMO PIFA exhibits superior diversity performance by producing ECC ≤ 0.0006, DG ≈ 10 dB, CCL < 0.20 bits/Hz/s, and MEG ≤ −3 dB. Furthermore, the specific absorption rate (SAR) is evaluated according to the standard values of fat, skin, and muscle at 3.3 GHz. As the physical size of a communication system for satellites or unmanned aerial vehicles demands to be reduced, a compact antenna with high directivity is proposed as a core element essential to the wireless device. Instead of using a horn or an array antenna, a unit planar antenna is combined with a surface-modulated lens to convert a low antenna gain to a high antenna gain. The lens is not a metal-patterned PCB but is dielectric, which is neither curved nor very wide. This palm-sized lens comprises pixels with different heights from the backside of PolyPhenylene Sulfide (PPS) as the dielectric base. The antenna gain from the unit antenna of 4.5 cm × 4.5 cm is enhanced by 10 dB with the help of a compact dielectric lens of 7.5 cm × 7.5 cm at 24.5 GHz as the frequency of interest. The antenna design is verified by far-field measurement as well as near-field observation, including sensing a metal object behind a blocking wall by using an RF test bench. The homogeneity of the microwave magnetic field is essential in controlling a large volume of ensemble spins, for example, in the case of sensitive magnetometry with nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers in diamond. This is particularly important for pulsed measurement, where the fidelity of control pulses plays a crucial role in its sensitivity. So far, several magnetic field-forming systems have been proposed, but no detailed comparison has been made. Here, we numerically study the homogeneity of five different systems, including a planar antenna, a dielectric resonator, a cylindrical inductor, a barrel-shaped coil, and a nested barrel-shaped coil. The results of the simulation allowed us to optimize the design parameters of the barrel-shaped field-forming system, which led to significantly improved magnetic field uniformity. To measure this effect, we experimentally compared the homogeneity of a field-forming system having a barrel shape with that of a planar field-forming system by measuring Rabi oscillations of an ensemble of NV centers with them. This paper proposes a 10 × 10 MIMO multiband broadband planar antenna for tablets or laptops. The designed antennas cover a large number of the popular sub‐6‐GHz application bands, such as 0.617–0.96, 2.1–2.7, 3.5–4.5, and 6.1–7.2 GHz for public safety communications, radio systems, Bluetooth, Wi‐Fi, and satellite communications. The proposed antenna is designed with grounded branches, which can generate a wide bandwidth and cover most of the sub‐6‐GHz application band by coupling between branches of different lengths and antennas. MIMO antennas have been measured to have an envelope correlation coefficient of less than 0.7 and have met the standards set by international organizations for human radiation absorption simulations. The proposed antenna validates the unique 10 × 10 MIMO antenna structure and feasibility. Multiple operable frequency bands are realized, and the radiation effect of the antenna on the human body is analyzed if it complies with international market standards. A high‐power, high‐isolation, dual‐polarised planar phased array antenna is presented. Based on a multi‐layer microstrip structure, two sets of polarisation ports are fed through orthogonal slot coupling, achieving high isolation and low cross‐polarisation. Double‐layer radiation patches and cavity interlayers are used to expand the bandwidth and increase the gain. Metal vias are added around microstrip feeders and between array units to suppress surface waves, thereby improving the scanning performance of the phased array. A smooth gradient microstrip structure is designed to improve the power capacity while realising broadband impedance matching. The measured results show that in the 8–10 GHz frequency band, the isolation of the dual polarisation ports is greater than 50 dB, and the impedance bandwidth reaches 22.2%, with active VSWR <1.5 when not scanning. Both sets of polarisation can achieve 2‐D beam scanning in the range of E‐plane ±20° and H‐plane ±40° without grating lobes, maintaining the scan loss below 2.4 dB, cross‐polarisation below −20 dB and active VSWR <2. Each unit achieves a high gain of 7.4 dB and large power capacity of 5 kW; so the entire 8 × 8 phased array can achieve a main lobe gain of 25.5 dB and realise high‐power directional radiation with the effective isotropic radiated power of 92.5 dBm. Summary: A band‐notched super wideband (SWB) planar monopole antenna with improved notch characteristics is proposed in this article. A hexagonal SWB antenna operating in the frequency range from 3.04 to 36 GHz is initially designed on Arlon substrate. The hexagonal patch is then loaded with optimum sized U‐shaped slot to eliminate WLAN band (5.15–5.85 GHz). The notch band's characteristics are further improved by incorporating a frequency selective surface (FSS) of a square array at a specific distance below the antenna to introduce a phase delay of 180° between the back radiation reflected by the FSS with the front radiation at the notched frequency. Improvement of notch band gain, efficiency, and antenna front‐to‐back ratio (FBR) are studied. The antenna without embedding an FSS exhibits working spectrum from 3.1 to 33.6 GHz with notch frequency gain of −2.6 dBi and efficiency 53%. The inclusion of an FSS layer at 25.2 mm behind the antenna results in notch frequency gain of −7.6 dBi with an efficiency of 23%. FBR improvement of about 16 dB is achieved at 8 GHz, and FBR is reduced by about 5 dB at the notch frequency. 169% fractional bandwidth with bandwidth dimension ratio (BDR) of 1622 is achieved in this proposed FSS integrated antenna. The inclusion of FSS to improve the band elimination performance represents the novelty of this proposal. The data are validated by electromagnetic simulation and physical measurement techniques. In a highly integrated analog radio-over-fiber transceiver, seamless integration of the antenna-frontend is crucial as an antenna is generally implemented on a high-κ material, which is set to highly degrade the antenna's performance. This work is concerned with the radiation behavior improvement of a planar leaky-wave antenna with an inductive partially reflecting surface (PRS) on a high-κ substrate for the development of a highly directive antenna. To begin with, we show how a thin and single-mode resonance (SMR) inductive PRS on high-κ materials in a planar leaky-wave antenna is set to provoke two resonance frequencies (i.e., PRS and cavity resonances) to converge, thereby diminishing the antenna's broadside directivity. By applying an equivalent circuit model, we explain how a multi-mode resonance (MMR) PRS can adequately be applied to address the underlying challenges. Subsequently, the leaky-wave radiation behavior of an antenna with a heterogeneous substrate is investigated and analytical equations are derived and verified with a full-wave simulation. The effects of material permittivity and thickness in a heterogeneous-cavity antenna on leaky-wave performance are investigated using these approximate yet accurate-enough equations. To justify the findings, two 9 × 9 planar leaky-wave antennas are prototyped on heterogeneous substrates based on SMR and MMR PRS and the radiation performances are compared. Our investigations reveal that in the proposed scenario, an MMR PRS can significantly enhance the antenna's broadside directivity by over 4 dBi at the resonance frequency (27.5 GHz), which is also set to improve radiation pattern compared to a SMR-based antenna. Finally, a single-fed dual-band aperture-shared antenna with a large frequency ratio (S-band and Ka-band) is developed and fabricated on a high-κ substrate based on the proposed MMR PRS. This letter proposes a novel planar endfire circularly polarized antenna with widened half‐power beamwidth. Widened azimuth beamwidth mechanism of 2D sectorial electric dipole is theoretically revealed, thus it is able to combine with a rectangular magnetic dipole to yield a half‐power beamwidth widened planar endfire circularly polarized antenna. Finally, a prototype planar endfire circularly polarized antenna with sectorial flared angle of α = 270° is fabricated, simulated, and implemented to validate the design approach. This article proposes a Ka‐band substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) quasi‐Yagi array antenna with the advantages of thinness, compactness, wide bandwidth, and higher gain. Analyzing the microstrip‐to‐SIW transition structure to confirm that the designed structure provides the best performance, the optimum reflectance coefficient bandwidth can be obtained. With the optimized rectangular etched slot structure at the antenna end, the impedance matching can be tuned to improve the bandwidth. The designed array antenna is fabricated and measured for verification. The substrate is based on Al2O3 ceramic and the antenna size is 23.3 mm × $\times $ 13 mm × $\times $ 0.5 mm. The measurement results indicate that the antenna achieves an impedance bandwidth of 13.59% below −10dB, with an average gain of approximately 7 dBi and a peak gain of 7.4 dBi in 28.1–32.2 GHz. Therefore, the 1*2 antenna proposed in this paper has the advantages of compact and planar structure, easy fabrication, and easy integration into RF circuits, which is very suitable for Ka‐Band applications. Integrated quantum photonic circuits require the efficient coupling of photon sources to photonic waveguides. Hybrid plasmonic/photonic platforms are a promising approach, taking advantage of both plasmon modal confinement for efficient coupling to a nearby emitter and photonic circuitry for optical data transfer and processing. In this work, we established directional quantum dot (QD) emission coupling to a planar TiO2 waveguide assisted by a Yagi-Uda antenna. Antenna on waveguide is first designed by scaling radio frequency dimensions to nano-optics, taking into account the hybrid plasmonic/photonic platform. Design is then optimized by full numerical simulations. We fabricate the antenna on a TiO2 planar waveguide and deposit a few QDs close to the Yagi-Uda antenna. The optical characterization shows clear directional coupling originating from antenna effect. We estimate the coupling efficiency and directivity of the light emitted into the waveguide. This paper introduces a novel approach for optimizing the packing and design of deployable parabolic rigid antenna structures based on origami, tailored to meet specific requirements related to the number of solid-surface blocks and the size of the folded antenna. The study begins by selecting a single-vertex four-crease configuration with one degree of freedom from the origami pattern, guided by mobility analysis, to optimize block arrangement. Subsequently, a planar model is employed to qualitatively examine the impact of geometric parameters on the stowage efficiency of the antenna. Building upon the insights gained from the planar model, an optimization framework for the parabolic rigid deployable antenna structure is established. The objective function of the optimization is the stowage volume, while simultaneously adhering to stiffness, collision, and mobility constraints. The design parameters of the antenna structure are thoroughly analyzed. To mitigate collision risks during folding, design considerations are applied to placement of support nodes, location of rotating axes, and block division, leveraging the optimized parameters. The practicality of the proposed method is successfully demonstrated through the folding of a simulated 3D model and of a physical 3D printed model. These tangible representations show the feasibility of the presented approach, affirming its potential applicability in the optimization and design of deployable parabolic rigid antenna structures. The letter presents a low‐windage omnidirectional antenna for high‐speed aircraft in the UHF and L bands. It combines a planar biconical antenna with a printed tape parasitic branch monopole antenna. Upgrading the traditional restricted‐length biconical antenna to a double‐layer planar design meets the compact, lightweight, and low windage requirements of airborne use. To enhance bandwidth and meet the lightweight, compact criteria of high‐speed aircraft, the planar‐printed monopole antenna integrates parasitic stubs and loop antenna concepts. Experimental results exhibit excellent isolation between antenna elements, with over 15 dB segregation and operational spectrum return loss of 27% and 18% at 10 dB. The voltage standing wave ratio is below 2, with less than 5 dB variation in the horizontal radiation pattern across frequency bands. Summary: The investigations related to the planar antenna array have attracted much attention due to their vast applications in the areas of advanced wireless communication and electromagnetics. This article presents an effective synthesis method of a sparsely thinned symmetric planar antenna array using three well‐known meta‐heuristics including symbiotic organism search (SOS) algorithm, moth fly optimization (MFO), and multi‐verse optimization (MVO) algorithms. The main aim of this work is to optimize the positions of the switched‐on antenna elements on the array aperture in order to reduce the value of side‐lobe levels in the radiation field pattern in multiple planes for a desired first null beam width and subsequently to obtain the maximum reduced number of array‐elements in the antenna array. Two different cases are performed to optimize the radiation pattern in different azimuth angles with two different examples. The proposed methods can constrain the total number of array elements, inter‐element distance, and aperture area of the array. The radiation pattern characteristic and computation time linked with each example and each algorithm are recorded and compared with each other as well as with a fully populated planar symmetric rectangular array antenna of same aperture size for arriving at the conclusion. In this manuscript, the design of a compact-size circular patch Ultra-Wideband (UWB) antenna with enhanced fractional bandwidth (BW), peak realized gain (PRG), and proper impedance matching is presented. The modified antenna has three circular slots etched from the circular path (top), fed by a 50O microstrip feed line. These circular slots play a significant role in improving the impedance bandwidth. Additionally, the partial ground plane with a slot integrated with a rectangular stub is used in order to achieve a bandwidth for an operating range of 3.25 GHz - 27 GHz. The proposed antenna is designed, fabricated, and tested in the laboratory in order to validate with simulation data. The designed antenna size is 25 mm? 20 mm × 0.508 mm. The experimental value of 10 dB return loss absolute/fractional BW of 23.75 GHz/157.08% at the center frequency, minimum/maximum gain of 5.90/12.05 dBi, and maximum/minimum radiation efficiency of 85/97 % are achieved from the 3.25 GHz to 27 GHz frequency range. To tackle the challenge of keeping 5G mobile devices compact while supporting millimeter-wave bands, we've created an ultra-compact 4-port dual-band MIMO antenna with a defected ground structure (DGS). This design minimizes mutual coupling and covers a broad frequency range. Built on a Rogers TMM4 substrate with dimensions of 17.76×17.76 mm2, the antenna includes four planar patch antennas positioned perpendicularly at the corners. Each antenna operates at 28/38 GHz and features a rectangular patch with four rectangular slots and a full ground plane. The patches are separated by 0.5 λo, with the DGS further reducing mutual coupling. Both simulations and measurements indicate a significant reduction in mutual coupling (−39 to −60 dB), improving ECC, TARC, MEG, and DG. Phase gradient metasurfaces (PGMs) have demonstrated powerful capacities for manipulating light waves freely. However, PGMs have limitations of bulky size and narrow bandwidth that hinder further applications. In this work, we present the design and analysis of a reflection-type PGM by utilizing the phase choice freedom in the supercell. It is found that in this well-designed PGM, perfect negative reflection including perfect retro-reflection can be observed not only at the initially designed frequency f1 = f0, but also at its double frequency, i.e., f2 = 2f0, which is named as the frequency-doubling perfect negative reflection. As a proof of concept, we design and fabricate a reflection-type PGM with 4π phase coverage in a supercell, with experimental results in perfect agreement with the theoretical ones. Our work offers an approach to design planar optical devices at multiple operating frequencies, holding potential applications for frequency division multiplexing communication, remote sensor technology, laser tracking, and more. A wideband planar microstrip antenna with good horizontally polarized omnidirectional radiation performance is presented. Using tightly coupled structures, six planar dipole elements are deployed in a circular pattern, and radiation is synthesized into a horizontal omnidirectional radiation pattern by superposing the far‐field pattern of the six dipoles. Owing to the tight coupling between radiating elements, the proposed antenna has a wide operating band. The radiating elements are printed on a printed circuit board and excited by a balun with uniform magnitude and synchronized current. A prototype is manufactured and measured. The measurement results show that the impedance bandwidth of the proposed antenna is 102% $ \% $. The gain variation of the horizontal omnidirectional pattern is less than 1.2 dB in the 1.27–3.89 GHz band. Within the operating frequency band, the total efficiency and radiation efficiency are greater than 82% and 88%, respectively. The authors design and experimentally analyse an anisotropic metasurface for the simultaneous conversions of linear cross and circular polarisations in the C and partial X bands. The proposed compact structure utilises a dual‐cut square‐ring resonator and a square patch on an FR4 substrate above a ground plane. The full‐wave simulations exhibit over 92% efficiency in cross‐conversion over a fractional bandwidth (BW) of 52.3%. The proposed metasurface efficiently converts linear to circular polarisation in two different bands, achieving left‐hand circularly polarised and right‐hand circularly polarised efficiencies exceeding 93% and 89%, respectively. The compact unit‐cell with dimension 0.22λ × 0.22λ attains stable polarisation transformation efficiency rates exceeding 80% up to 40° incident angles. The design is adaptable for efficient wide BW across both lower and higher (millimetre‐wave) frequencies through scaling. A prototype of the proposed polarisation converter (PC) was realised and validated effectively in measurements, aligning well with simulations. This PC features a novel and simple structure with multifunctional wideband operation, stable incident angle output, polarisation insensitivity, and scalability, making it an efficient front‐end for various radio frequency applications, including polarisation control and polarisation transformers. BACKGROUND: Implantable medical devices are being valued as one of the developments of wireless biomedical technology. OBJECTIVE: This paper presents a mid-field wireless power transmission (WPT) system, which is designed for implantable applications and operates at the 2.40–2.48 GHz band of Industrial, Scientific, and Medical (ISM). METHODS: A new compact transmitter structure is proposed, and a small 4-C planar ring antenna is designed as the receiving element. A measurement setup is fulfilled on porcine tissues to verify the power transmission system. RESULTS: The experimental results show that the operating bandwidth is 2.2–2.62 GHz and the transmission coefficient can reach - 26.32 dB at a distance of 50 mm. The effects of tissue differences, placement depth, and different transmission distances were also measured. The displacement and deflection tolerances between the transmitter and the implant receiver also have good performance. In the safety standard of specific absorption rate, for the 1 W output power from the mid-field transmitter, the receiving power of the implantable antenna at the mid-field distance can reach 79.6 mW. CONCLUSION: With measurements of different implantation and transmission distance on pork, the mid-field power transmission efficiency is proven and shows the high performance of the system. This paper proposes a genetic algorithm for the design of passive components operating at THz frequencies and its experimental validation using an exemplar patch antenna. The patch antenna is based on an SU8 substrate, with a binary array describing the placement of metal "bits" replacing the conventional patch. These "bits" are constrained at 25 × 25 μm2, ensuring ease of fabrication. Optimal configurations of this array are determined using a finite-difference time-domain solver coupled to the genetic algorithm, which simulates and optimizes for maximum power collection in the frequency range of 0.10–5.0 THz. The aim was to produce an evolved patch antenna design with double the power collection efficiency across the majority of the frequency range compared to a reference, plain patch antenna of the same size. This was successful with a 5.3 dB mean improvement in simulated power collection compared to a plain reference patch. A vector network analyzer in conjunction with 0.80–1.0 THz frequency extenders was used to validate the simulation results. The interest in precise point positioning techniques using smartphones increased with the launch of the world's first dual-frequency L1/L5 GNSS smartphone, Xiaomi Mi 8. The smartphone GNSS antenna is low-cost, sensitive to multipath, and limited by physical space and design. The main purpose of this work is to determine the mechanical location and antenna performance in terms of radiation pattern in an anechoic chamber using a Vector Network Analyzer (VNA) and robotic positioning platform by varying the elevation and azimuth angles between the transmitter and smartphone GNSS antennas; the power received and satellite visibility are developed in an outdoor scenario. The results show a Planar Inverted-F Antenna with an omnidirectional radiation pattern without gain. The L1/E1/B1 and L5/E5a/B2a GNSS antennas are physically located at the top face of the screen, with dimensions of 48 × 17 mm and 60 × 13 mm, respectively. With the screen with line-of-sight toward the sky, L5 satellites have a better signal–noise ratio (SNR), unlike the back side, which loses 99% of the data in the PPP solution. Under multipath scenarios, the L1 GNSS smartphone antenna works with 25% less power than the GPS user segment recommendation, showing high sensitivity to track weak signals. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The growing interest of the scientific community in surveying and monitoring submerged assets is motivated by the increasing demand for high-resolution products with certified accuracies. While many instrumental and methodological solutions for documenting, monitoring, and studying archaeological and cultural heritage through geomatics techniques are already available for the terrestrial environment, the challenge remains open to the underwater context. High-resolution capability and accurate positioning are still difficult to achieve in these environments. This paper discusses the limitations of positioning and georeferencing techniques in the underwater environment. It explores how existing methods and new instruments can be used to perform accurate topographic surveys of ground control points (GCPs) in very shallow waters (within 5 m depths), which can support the photogrammetric reconstruction of underwater assets. This research presents two innovative prototypes: a self-built plastic marker for topographic use in the underwater environment and a self-built aluminum pole for topographic use in the marine environment. The prototypes are tested and validated with a tilt-compensating smart antenna to reduce planar and altimetric errors when the pole is not perfectly level and to work independently of the shore proximity required when using a total station to perform said measurements. Purpose: Propagation characteristics of millimeter wave (mmW) frequencies that are being explored for implementing 5G network are quite different from sub 3GHz frequencies in which 4G network is operating, and hence antenna design for mmW 5G network is going to be significantly different. The purpose of this paper is to bring forth the unique challenges and opportunities of planar antenna design for mmW 5G network. Design/methodology/approach: A lot of notable contemporary work has been investigated for this study and reported in this paper. A comparison of 4G and 5G technologies has been carried out to understand the difference between the air interface of two technologies that governs the antenna design. Important research gaps found after collating the work already done in the field have been bullet pointed for the use by many researchers working in this direction. Findings: Several antenna design considerations have been laid out by the authors of this work, and it has been claimed that mmW 5G antenna design must satisfy these design considerations. In addition, prominent research gaps have been identified and thoroughly discussed. Originality/value: As research in the field of mmW antenna design for 5G applications is still evolving, a lot of work is currently being done in this area. Summary: Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are used to monitor the real‐time parameters of remote/restricted access areas of automation industries which are tightly sealed. In such scenarios, the main challenge is signal transmission in sealed environments. An omnidirectional radiation pattern is preferred as a control link for receiving packets or periodic updates from its neighbouring nodes. However, the gain and directivity of omnidirectional antenna should be sufficient enough to transfer the data to the collecting node. This paper proposes a high‐gain horizontally polarised omnidirectional radiation pattern planar antenna resonating at the 2.45 GHz. The developed microstrip planar antenna offers a very simple and compact structure printed on either side of FR4 epoxy substrate (ε = 4.4) suitable for WSN nodes. A printed dipole director is arranged orthogonally and offers horizontal polarisation. A pair of parasitic elements is placed parallel to dipole radiators to improve the total gain of the antenna. A parallel pair of parasitic elements is placed on an inclination of 45° in antenna design plane for uniform distribution of surface current to achieve the omnidirectional antenna. The symmetrical structure of the radiating element on either side of the substrate avoids the design of the traditional balun structure to reduce the complexity of feeding network. The developed antenna is simulated, fabricated, measured and tested using WSN. The measured radiation (directivity = 3.9 dBi) is maximum at Ⴔ = 0° and Ⴔ = 90°. The frequency response of the antenna indicates a −10 dB fractional bandwidth of 380 MHz (2.24 GHz–2.62 GHz). The measured far‐field response shows a stable average gain of 3.9 dBi over the ISM band. The real‐time received signal strength indicator (RSSI) of the antenna installed in the sensor node observed a success rate of 79.46% with a transmission error of 10%. A novel design for Vivaldi antenna is introduced to operate in more than one frequency band in the millimeter-wave spectrum range with high gain. The proposed Vivaldi antenna is planar and printed on both sides of Rogers 3003C flexible substrate. A parasitic annular ring is added to each arm of the Vivaldi antenna to adjust the impedance matching and maximize the gain. The dimensions of the antenna are optimized using the CST microwave simulator to obtain the best impedance matching bandwidths and highest gain in a compact-size antenna. The 28-GHz band is then selected due to its importance to enhance the gain and improve the operating bandwidth for the 5G applications. A gain of 10 dBi and bandwidth of 6.1 GHz are obtained at 28 GHz. A multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna system is then designed for pattern diversity for the fifth-generation mobile applications. The performance of the MIMO system is evaluated regarding the envelope correlation coefficient and the diversity gain showing good results. The optimized antenna is fabricated and its return loss and radiation patterns are measured showing good consent between the simulations and the practical work. The MIMO antenna system is also fabricated, and its performance is measured regarding the reflection and coupling coefficients showing good agreement between the measurements and simulations. This paper presents the results of a numerical study of a planar antenna with a complex form factor. The antenna is based on a combination of two resonators, a disc resonator and a ring resonator. The feeding of the ring resonator is performed using a coplanar structure: pointwise by galvanic contact between the central conductor of the coplanar line and the ring resonator and by distributed electromagnetic coupling of the ring resonator and the aperture of the outer conductor of the coplanar line. The antenna was placed over a metal plane whose geometric dimensions were significantly larger than those of the antenna to exclude the influence of edge diffraction effects. In numerical simulation a complex approach including the method of semi-open resonator and the finite element method (FEM) implemented within the commercial package HFFS was used. The dependences of spectral, energy and polarization characteristics on material constants and frequency parameter have been investigated. It was found that within the framework of single-parameter optimization it is impossible to simultaneously achieve a high level of all important parameters. The values of frequencies of spectral lines in the spectral characteristics of the antenna are found with a relative error not worse than 1200 Hz. Frequency ranges within which there is no degeneration of oscillation types are established. The distributions of surface currents on the metal elements of the antenna, allowing to determine the position of phase centers of excitation, are presented. It is shown that the proposed antenna can provide an acceptable level of matching both at fixed frequencies and in sufficiently wide local frequency bands, reaching 11% with respect to the center frequency of the sub-band. The boundary values of gain coefficients in frequency bands are established. In this paper we describe a class of printed patch antennas that involve 3 metal layers completely integrated within a single dielectric, which are of very high efficiency and significant gain. The antennas presented have dual linear polarization and sufficient impedance matching bandwidth to be suited for sub-6 5G applications, producing advantageous antenna arrays monolithically integrated into a single planar PCB that are thin and lightweight. The feeding mechanism of the antennas is through an intermediate dedicated metal layer designed appropriately as a coupler, coupling the input power at the feeding ports of the structure to the antenna without a direct metal contact to the radiating patch. The multilayer design allows monolithic integration of multi-element combiners and phase shifters within the PCB of antenna arrays and results in compact monolithic scanning arrays. Summary: A small size, dual‐band and dual‐sense monopole antenna is proposed to improve the axial ratio bandwidth (ARBW). The proposed antenna is considered on a low‐cost lossy FR4 substrate with parasitic strips (PSs) and partial ground plane of half guided wavelength dimensions. The dimension of the antenna in terms of wavelength is 0.27λ0×0.29λ0×0.02λ0, where λ0 is the wavelength at the lowest resonant frequency. The circularly polarized (CP) mode is created for strong orthogonal electric fields EX and EY. The obtained phase difference (PD) between two electric fields EX and EY is varied from 86° to 96° under ARBW. The achieved ARBW is 3.68–3.8 GHz, 4.84–12.58 GHz, and impedance bandwidth (IBW) is 3.51–3.82 GHz and 4.28–15 GHz. The applications of the proposed antenna are International Telecommunication Union (ITU) for 5G, C‐band IEEE 802.11a wireless local area network (WLAN) at 5 GHz (5.15–5.825 GHz) and X‐band wireless systems. This paper proposes a broadband optical transparent antenna using a transparent conductor film on a transparent polyethylene terephthalate (PET) substrate. The planar wide‐slot antenna coupling fed by microstrip has a wide impedance bandwidth, so it is selected to design the transparent antenna. The upper surface of the PET substrate is a microstrip line with a fork‐shaped tuning branch, and the lower surface is a wide slot. They were made of transparent conductor film. Finally, a new capacitive coupling method is used to feed the transparent antenna. The transparent conductor film used in the antenna is metal mesh, which was developed by 3M company. The metal mesh with an open area greater than 80% to achieve high transmittance. The measured results show that the impedance bandwidth is 177% (0.30–5.0 GHz), and the gain of the antenna varies from 5.06 to 7.8 dBi over the entire frequency band. This paper presents a small‐sized, planar antenna fabrication for ultra‐wideband (UWB) and vehicle‐to‐everything (V2X) applications. The design is inspired by a hexagonal ring, providing an UWB bandwidth of 16.61 GHz (from 3.33 to 19.94 GHz) and a fractional bandwidth of 142.75%. A suitably placed inverted‐U slot in the feed line helps in achieving the WLAN notch band (from 5.04 to 6.01 GHz). The overall design footprint is 0.17 × 0.23 λ02 in size, provides stable radiation characteristics, and a gain of 4 dBi in the pass‐band with stable time‐domain performance. In this paper, a planar reflectarray antenna is designed. The designed structure consists of new types of metamaterial unit cells. Two different flower-like shaped unit cells were studied at the center frequency of 12.5 GHz. The reflectarray contains multi cells with varying sizes of flowers. A metal plate and an air gap layer are placed behind the metamaterial sheet. A standard Ku band horn antenna feeds the structure. The F/D ratio is unity for the designed reflect array. Compared to previous reflectarray antennas, the designed reflect array consists of a limited number of cells, i.e. 121. Also, a new method without any try-and-error process is presented. The width of the designed reflector is so compact. This proposed method can be used for a reflectarray antenna with gain in the range of 20 to 30dBi with acceptable radiation efficiency. In the present article, a design approach to accomplish circular polarization-based rhombus ring microstrip-fed monopole antenna working at 5.8 GHz for wireless body area network (WBAN) applications is proposed. The input impedance calculation using an electromagnetic theory of transmission line in a travelling wave coupled to the parallel-plate inductor model is conducted. Radiated electric field pattern calculation of the conventional square ring microstrip patch antenna (MSPA) using Biot and Savart's law is reported. The circular polarization of the proposed antenna is accomplished by loading the radiating path with a capacitive element sectioned in the neighbourhood of the feed line. The proposed planar monopole antenna of volume 0.38 λ 0 × 0.38 λ 0 × 0.029 λ 0 ( λ 0 is evaluated at the resonant frequency of 5.8 GHz) achieves a -10 dB impedance bandwidth of 86.20% in the band (3-8 GHz) with a stable real gain of 8.29 dBic in circular polarization at the resonant frequency of 5.8 GHz and axial ration bandwidth of about 32.75% in the (5-6.9 GHz) band. Specific absorption rate (SAR) evaluation of the studied antenna is computed numerically on a part of the human phantom model to justify its use in WBAN applications. It is noted that the maximum amount of radiation absorbed by a part of the human phantom model is limited to a maximum SAR value of 1.45 W/kg and 0.754 W/kg on 1 g and 10 g of tissue mass, respectively. A compact high‐gain filtering patch antenna with harmonic suppression characteristic is proposed. The antenna mainly contains a coupled transmission line and a central rectangular patch. The capacitive coupling between the coupled transmission line and the rectangular patch generates a radiating null at high frequencies. Then, acrossing the hybrid coupling principle, the structure of the microstrip‐to‐slotline transition builds two coupling paths, which generate a radiating null at low frequencies. In addition, two vertical slots are carved into the rectangular center patch to truncate the lateral current. That removes the higher order resonant modes and suppresses the parasitic passbands at high frequencies outside the passband. A fabricated 2 × 2 filtering antenna array is measured, showing a bandwidth up to 3.9% (8.68–9.03 GHz), a peak gain of 14.43 dBi, and two near‐band radiation nulls located at 8 and 9.55 GHz, demonstrating good radiation performances and an isolation of 25 dB. In this work, a wideband magneto-electric dipole antenna with circular polarization is introduced, which covers the 2G, 3G, LTE, and 5G frequency bands. In the proposed antenna, a planar dipole antenna with triangular corners, which plays the role of an electric dipole with circular polarization radiation, is mounted on a vertically-oriented cavity, which acts like a magnetic dipole. A Y-shaped probe is used to excite the antenna, which improves the axial ratio (AR) diagram due to its unique geometry. A sample of the proposed antenna is fabricated, and its measurement results are presented. The measurement results show an impedance bandwidth of 81.46% from 2.35 to 5.58 GHz, which covers the entire bandwidth required for 5G applications. Also, the measured 3-dB AR bandwidth extends from 2.26 to 5.58 GHz (84.61%). The measurement results show a relatively stable gain over the whole band, with a maximum gain of 9.91 dB at 4.8 GHz. One of the most significant advantages of the magneto-electric dipole antenna is its high front-to-back ratio (F/B). This paper outlines the design and validation of a four-port compact Multi-Input Multi-Output (MIMO) antenna engineered to provide reconfigurable band notches within the ultra-wideband spectrum. The antenna features a circular monopole engraved with split ring slots along its radiating section, while a U-shaped slot is etched onto the feed line to facilitate band notches at specific frequencies—4.3 GHz (corresponding to INSAT), 6.8 GHz (aligned with Wi-Fi-6E), and 8.3 GHz (pertaining to X-band satellite). To ensure proper isolation, the MIMO elements are arranged orthogonally, and a decoupling periodic structure is strategically interposed between these elements to enhance isolation further. The incorporation of a PIN diode within the U-shaped slot introduces reconfigurability into the band notching mechanism. The MIMO antenna operates in two distinct modes depending upon the state of the PIN diode, either activated (ON) or deactivated (OFF). In the former mode, the antenna offers switchable band notches across three frequencies, while in the latter mode, it offers band notches at two specific frequencies. The validity of the antenna's performance is validated through real-time fabrication and measurement. Both simulated and measured results exhibit a notable correlation. Maintaining the compact form of 5G smartphones while accommodating millimeter-wave (mm-wave) bands is a significant challenge due to the substantial frequency difference. To address this issue, we've introduced an super-compact 4-port dual-band multiple-input, multiple-output (MIMO) antenna that utilizes a metamaterial-inspired electromagnetic bandgap (EBG) structure. This design minimizes mutual coupling (MC) and handles a wide frequency range effectively. The 4-port MIMO antenna is constructed on a Rogers TMM4 substrate, with overall dimensions of 17.76 × 17.76 mm². It incorporates four planar patch antennas positioned at the corners, arranged perpendicularly to each other. Each antenna element is designed for dual-band operation at 28/38 GHz, featuring a rectangular patch with four rectangular slots and a full ground plane. The gap between these patches measures 0.5 λo, and an EBG is included to minimize MC among the MIMO antenna elements efficiently and cost-effectively. Both simulation and measurement results show a substantial reduction in mutual coupling between the array elements, ranging from −25 to −90 dB. Consequently, this enhances the envelope correlation coefficient (ECC) and improves the total active reflection coefficient (TARC), mean effective gain (MEG), and diversity gain (DG). An in-depth time-domain analysis is proposed to confirm the radiation efficiency of the proposed MIMO antenna design. A U-slot located symmetrically at the centre of the patch has been utilized to enhance the patch antenna's operating bandwidth compared to the standard conventional patch. The operating frequency range of the circumferential patch antenna is from 8.61 to 11.43 GHz, while the axial patch covers the frequency range 8.71 to 11.33 GHz (covering X band). The antenna shows excellent gain with minimal variation in both E and H-planes across the operating frequency range. Moreover, the antenna achieves less than −10 dB sidelobe levels in both E and H-planes across all frequencies and configurations. The co and cross-polarization plots are also depicted to show the excellent polarization purity of the antenna for the planar and cylindrical conformal configurations. The focal plane of a telescope for cosmic microwave background (CMB) observation typically contains a large-scale array of transition-edge sensor (TES) bolometers. Polarized planar antennas are easy to fabricate and integrate, compared to commonly used horn antennas in receiving modules. In order to enhance the directivity and coupling efficiency, a planar antenna is generally equipped with a hyper-hemispherical silicon lens. However, a Si lens has a large volume, and the fabrication and assembly processes are complex. A flat all-dielectric metasurface lens is proposed to replace Si-lens to converge beam and increase gain of a slot antenna. The all-dielectric structure of silicon holes with sub-wavelength thickness can change the volumetric fill factor to adjust the local effective refractive index, and thus manipulate the shape of wavefront while ensuring high transmission efficiency. The meta-lens was found to exhibit high gain, low cross polarization and good beam symmetry, as verified by simulated electric field amplitude distribution and far-field patterns at 225 GHz using CST microwave studio suite. The detector array and the meta-lens array can both be fabricated using standard planar photolithography technology, and the combination has the potential to achieve larger scale arrays. This paper presents a miniaturized wide-band dual-polarized tightly coupled dipole antenna for 5G millimeter-wave smartphones. The proposed antenna realizes miniaturization to avoid any grating lobes and achieves feed port reduction to reduce cost by utilizing the wideband balanced feeding of planar balun. The operating bandwidth of pol-x is 19.95-45.78 GHz and of pol-y is 20.11-46.32 GHz, which contains the entire dominant 5G millimeter-wave bands for mobile communication. The proposed 1 × 8 array is 23.8 mm × 3.5 mm × 1.297 mm which adapt to the size-limited of 5G smartphones. The peak gain of pol-x is 11.71 dBi and of pol-y is 12.45 dBi. The scanning performance of proposed 1 × 8 array is measured through the test feed powers dividers, which achieve wide beam scanning of around ±60°.
