The supraclavicular block (SCB) and the infraclavicular block (ICB) are introduced to meet upper extremity surgery, where the transducer or the insertion point is placed superiorly and inferiorly at the approximate midpoint of the clavicle, respectively. These two approaches are highly appealing since they clearly exhibited each cord and its associated anatomy. In addition, it directed the needle accurately with real-time imaging by ultrasound guidance. Therefore, it brought higher success rates and fewer complications. Numerous trials have recently been conducted to examine the SCB and ICB regarding the new approach, injection techniques, block dynamics, and complication of hemidiaphragmatic paresis. It was found that both approaches could improve block effectiveness and postoperative analgesia for upper extremity surgery, according to recent studies at the level of the clavicular brachial plexus block. However, there is still a lack of work comparing the clinical performance and effectiveness of both approaches with ultrasonography. This review aims to outline the current available data from clinical trials along with case reports about these two approaches and to describe the findings published in the literature during the previous 5 years. Chronic hepatitis delta virus infection (CHD) is a condition arising from super-infection of hepatitis B virus (HBV)-infected patients, resulting in a more rapid advance in liver pathology and hepatocellular carcinoma than is observed for HBV mono-infection. Although hepatitis delta virus (HDV) is structurally simple, its life cycle involves the complex participation of host enzymes, HBV-derived surface antigen (HBsAg), and HDV-auto-ribozyme and hepatitis delta antigen (HDAg) activities. Unsatisfactory clinical trial results with interferon-based therapies are motivating researchers to adjust and redirect the approach to CHD drug development. This new effort will likely require additional structural and functional studies of the viral and cellular/host components involved in the HDV replication cycle. This review highlights recent work aimed at new drug interventions for CHD, with interpretation of key pre-clinical- and clinical trial outcomes and a discussion of promising new technological approaches to antiviral drug design. With the advancements in information and communication technologies, our world is now a global village. Efficient and novel technologies are now available for the effective transmission of different kinds of data, along with future challenges for making these transmissions more and more effective. Various joint training procedures have been developed to improve the performance delay and throughput of communication systems. These architectures can make the communication persistent in different scenarios and enhance the capacity of a channel. A study was conducted to show the advantages of various joint training procedures for the overcoming of different transmission defects. With the implementation of these procedures, different issues in transmission like power and resource allocation, channel capacity, adaptability, and many more can be resolved very efficiently. After the thorough revision of the existing literature, the present study has identified some of the most valuable features from it. From these features, the most prominent ones are selected and their weights are computed with the use of the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP). Background: Oral microbiota reported to be associated with pancreatic diseases, including pancreatic cancer. However, the association of oral microbiome and pancreatic cancer has not been reviewed systematically. Objectives: To systematically investigate the association between the oral microbiome and pancreatic cancer risk. Design: A systematic review and meta-analysis. Data Sources and Methods: Systemic searches were conducted using PubMed, Medline, Cochrane Library, and Embase databases without any language restriction from conception to August 29, 2020. The studies that evaluated the association of oral microbiome and pancreatic cancer risk were included in this meta-analysis. Results: The six included studies encompassed a total of 863 pancreatic cancer cases and 906 controls. Four studies reported the overall oral microbiome in pancreatic cancer cases. A total of 12-17 species/clusters were correlated with pancreatic cancer. Three studies reported the odds ratios (ORs) or relative abundance of several oral microbiomes pieces/clusters, and the majority were associated with pancreatic cancer. Conclusions: Overall, this study supports the hypothesis of associations of variations of patients' oral microbiota to pancreatic cancer. Nonetheless, due to all included studies were conducted in USA or Europe, additional original studies and meta-analysis particular studies from other countries are essential for an in-depth investigation into the role of oral bacteria in pancreatic cancer. Klebsiella pneumoniae, especially hypervirulent K. pneumoniae (hvKP), is a common opportunistic pathogen that often causes hospital- and community-acquired infections. Capsular polysaccharide (CPS) is an important virulence factor of K. pneumoniae. Some phages encode depolymerases that can recognize and degrade bacterial polysaccharides. In this study, the lytic bacteriophage vB_KpnP_ZK1 (abbreviated as ZK1) was isolated using serotype K1 hvKP as the host. Although amino acid sequence BLAST analysis indicated that the tail fiber protein Depo16 of phage ZK1 showed no significant similarity to any reported phage depolymerases, it displayed enzymatic activities that are characteristic of phage depolymerases. After expression and puri fication, Depo16 could efficiently remove the capsular polysaccharide layer that surrounds the surface of serotype K1 K. pneumoniae. Although no bactericidal activity was detected, Depo16 makes serotype K1 K. pneumoniae sensitive to peritoneal macrophages (PMs). In addition, in a mouse bacteremia model of serotype K1 K. pneumoniae, 25 µg of Depo16 was effective in significantly prolonging survival. Depo16 treatment can reduce the bacterial load in blood and major tissues and alleviate tissue damage in mice. This indicates that the putative depolymerase Depo16 is a potential antibacterial agent against serotype K1 K. pneumoniae infections. IMPORTANCE Klebsiella pneumoniae often causes hospital-acquired infections and community-acquired infections. Capsular polysaccharide (CPS) is one of the crucial virulence factors of K. pneumoniae. K1 and K2 capsular-type K. pneumoniae strains are the most prevalent serotypes of hypervirulent K. pneumoniae (hvKP). In this study, a novel K. pneumoniae phage named vB_KpnP_ZK1 was isolated, and its putative depolymerase Depo16 showed low homology with other reported phage depolymerases. Depo16 can specifically degrade the K. pneumoniae K1 capsule making this serotype sensitive to peritoneal macrophages. More importantly, Depo16 showed a significant therapeutic effect in a mouse bacteremia model caused by serotype K1 K. pneumoniae. Nanostructured AgI/TiO 2photocatalyst was synthesized by a feasible approach with AgNO 3, LiI, and Ti(OBu) 4and characterized by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, angle-dependent X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, diffusive reflectance UV−vis spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, photoluminescence, and the Brunauer−Emmett−Teller technique. The results of characterization reveal that the nanostructured AgI/TiO 2has a novel core/shell/shell nanostructure of AgI/Ag−I 2/TiO 2. Compared with TiO 2(P25) supported AgI, the formation of the nanostructure results in substantial shifting of the absorption edge of AgI to red, enhancement of the absorption intensity, and the appearance of a strong tail absorption above 490 nm, which is assigned to the absorption of I 2and Ag. Photocatalytic tests show that the nanostructured AgI/TiO 2photocatalyst exhibited very high visible-light-induced photocatalytic activity for the photodegradation of crystal violet and 4-chlorophenol, which is 4 and 6 times higher than that of P25 titania supported AgI, respectively. The highly efficient visible-light-induced photocatalytic activity of the nanostructured AgI/TiO 2is attributed to its strong absorption in the visible region and low recombination rate of the electron−hole pair due to the synergetic effect among the components of AgI, Ag, I 2, and TiO 2in the nanostructured AgI/TiO 2. Salmonella enterica subspecies enterica serovar abortus equi (S. abortus equi) is a frequently reported pathogen causing abortion in mares. In this study, the preventive and therapeutic effects of phage PIZ SAE-01E2 against S. abortus equi in a mouse model of abortion was investigated. Phage PIZ SAE-01E2 was stable at different temperatures (4 ~ 70 °C) and pH values (4 ~ 10) and could lyse the majority of the tested Salmonella strains (25/28) of serotype O:4 and O:9. There is no lysogenic, toxin or antibiotic-resistant related gene in the genome of PIZ SAE-01E2. All of these characteristics indicated PIZ SAE-01E2 has potential for phage therapy. In in vivo experiments, 2 x 103 CFU/mouse of S. abortus equi ATCC 9842 was sufficient to lead to murine abortion (gestational day 14.5) within 48 h. A single dose of intraperitoneal inoculation of PIZ SAE-01E2 (108 PFU/mouse, MOI = 105) 1 h before or after S. abortus equi challenge provided effective protection to all pregnant mice (10/10). The bacterial loads in the placenta and uterus of the infected mice were both significantly decreased (< 102 CFU/g) after 24 h treatment with phage PIZ SAE-01E2 compared to that of control group (> 106 CFU/g). In addition, the levels of inflammatory cytokines in the placenta and blood of the mice in the phage administration groups were significantly reduced (P < 0.05) compared to that of the control group. Bacteriophage can be used as an alternative or complementary therapy to antibiotics for treating multidrug-resistant bacterial infections. However, the rapid emergence of resistant host variants during phage treatment has limited its therapeutic applications. In this study, a potential phage-resistant mechanism of Klebsiella pneumoniae was revealed. After phage GH-K3 treatment, a smooth-type colony, named K7RB, was obtained from the K. pneumoniae K7 culture. Treatment with IO4- and/or proteinase K indicated that polysaccharides of K7 played an important role in phage recruitment, and protein receptors on K7 were essential for effective infection by GH-K3. Differences in protein expression between K7 and K7RB were quantitatively analyzed by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. Among differentially expressed proteins, OmpC, OmpN, KPN_02430, and OmpF were downregulated significantly in K7RB. trans- Complementation of OmpC in K7RB conferred rapid adsorption and sensitivity to GH-K3. In contrast, a single-base deletion mutation of ompC in K7, which resulted in OmpC silencing, led to lower adsorption efficiency and resistance to GH-K3. These assays proved that OmpC is the key receptor-binding protein for GH-K3. In addition, the native K. pneumoniae strains KPP14, KPP27, and KPP36 showed low or no sensitivity to GH-K3. However, these strains became more sensitive to GH-K3 after their native receptors were replaced by OmpC of K7, suggesting that OmpCK7 was the most suitable receptor for GH-K3. This study revealed that K7RB became resistant to GH-K3 due to gene mutation of ompC and that OmpC of K7 is essential for effective infection by GH-K3. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Treatment of infections caused by staphylococci has become more difficult because of the emergence of multidrug-resistant strains as well as biofilm formation. In this study, we observed the ability of the phage lysin LysGH15 to eliminate staphylococcal planktonic cells and biofilms formed by Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Staphylococcus haemolyticus, and Staphylococcus hominis. All these strains were sensitive to LysGH15, showing reductions in bacterial counts of approximately 4 log units within 30 min after treatment with 20 µg/ml of LysGH15, and the MICs ranged from 8 µg/ml to 32 µg/ml. LysGH15 efficiently prevented biofilm formation by the four staphylococcal species at a dose of 50 µg/ml. At a higher dose (100 µg/ml), LysGH15 also showed notable disrupting activity against 24-h and 72-h biofilms formed by S. aureus and coagulase-negative species. In the in vivo experiments, a single intraperitoneal injection of LysGH15 (20 µg/mouse) administered 1 h after the injection of S. epidermidis at double the minimum lethal dose was sufficient to protect the mice. The S. epidermidis cell counts were 4 log units lower in the blood and 3 log units lower in the organs of mice 24 h after treatment with LysGH15 than in the untreated control mice. LysGH15 reduced cytokine levels in the blood and improved pathological changes in the organs. The broad antistaphylococcal activity exerted by LysGH15 on planktonic cells and biofilms makes LysGH15 a valuable treatment option for biofilm-related or non-biofilmrelated staphylococcal infections.
