In order to reduce the absorption of solar radiation by asphalt pavement in plateau permafrost regions and protect the underlying permafrost subgrade, the aim of this research was to develop a dark high near-infrared (NIR) reflective material using magnesium phosphate cement (MPC) and chrome black T, and to construct reflective grouting compound pavement (RGCP) by grouting the material into large void asphalt mixture. The optimal magnesium (M)/phosphate (P) ratio of MPC was determined to be 10 through solar spectral reflectance test, with a NIR reflectance of 71.74 %. A series of experiments, including chromaticity characteristics, reflectance test, SEM-EDS analysis, and strength test, were conducted to characterize the impact of chrome black T content on the reflection and mechanical properties of MPC. The results indicated that the chrome black T particles were uniformly distributed on the surface of MPC and filled in its pores, which not only effectively colored the MPC, but also improved its mechanical strength. Since the reflectivity of chrome black T was lower than that of MPC, its incorporation also reduced the NIR reflectivity of MPC to a certain extent. Overall, MPC with 1 % chrome black T content had a color similar to asphalt and a NIR reflectance of 43.91 %, making it a suitable dark NIR reflective material. An indoor irradiation experiment verified that RGCP can maintain a lower temperature under solar radiation. Compared with the control group, the surface temperature of the RGCP specimen was reduced by 4.5 °C. • Reflective grouting compound pavement (RGCP) was prepared by grouting dark MPC into large void asphalt mixture. • MgO particles are the main provider of reflectivity in MPC. • The addition of chrome black T can not only effectively color the MPC, but also improve its mechanical strength. • RGCP has high near-infrared reflectance and can maintain lower temperatures under solar radiation.
