The search period was from January 2013 to June 2023.We included a total of 30 high‐quality articles and summarized 36 pieces of evidence from them. These pieces of evidence covered 11 dimensions of multidisciplinary management, aspiration risk assessment, tube location, nutritional infusion management, position management, airway management, and oral hygiene. The level of evidence in the study was predominantly level 1 and level 5, with 27 pieces of evidence recommended as ‘strong’ and 9 pieces of evidence recommended as ‘weak’.This study summarizes 36 pieces of evidence on preventing and managing aspiration in critically ill patients with nasogastric feeding. But the characteristics of hospitals should be considered in the application of future evidence.Aspiration is the most serious complication during nasogastric feeding, which seriously affects the prognosis of patients. Preventing and managing aspiration in nasogastric patients has proven to be a challenging clinical problem. This study summarized 36 pieces of best evidence in 11 dimensions, including multidisciplinary team, assessment and identification, line position, feeding management, and so on. Background: Animal experiments have confirmed that remote ischemic preconditioning (RIPC) can reduce hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injuries (HIRIs), significantly improving early tissue perfusion and oxygenation of the residual liver after resections, accelerating surgical prognoses, and improving survival rates. However, there is still controversy over the role of RIPC in relieving HIRI in clinical studies, which warrants clarification. This study aimed to evaluate the beneficial effects and applicability of RIPC in hepatectomy and to provide evidence-based information for clinical decision-making. Methods: Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) evaluating the efficacy and safety of RIPC interventions were collected, comparing RIPC to no preconditioning in patients undergoing hepatectomies. This search spanned from database inception to January 2024. Data were extracted independently by two researchers according to the PRISMA guidelines. The primary outcomes assessed were postoperative alanine transaminase (ALT), aspartate transaminase (AST), total bilirubin (TBIL), and albumin (ALB) levels. The secondary outcomes assessed included duration of surgery and Pringle, length of postoperative hospital stay, intraoperative blood loss and transfusion, indocyanine green (ICG) clearance, hepatocyte apoptosis index, postoperative complications, and others. Results: Ten RCTs were included in this meta-analysis, with a total of 865 patients (428 in the RIPC group and 437 in the control group). ALT levels in the RIPC group were lower than those in the control group on postoperative day (POD) 1 (WMD = − 59.24, 95% CI: − 115.04 to − 3.45; P = 0.04) and POD 3 (WMD = − 27.47, 95% CI: − 52.26 to − 2.68; P = 0.03). However, heterogeneities were significant (I2 = 89% and I2 = 78%), and ALT levels on POD 3 were unstable based on a sensitivity analysis. AST levels on POD 1 in the RIPC group were lower than those in the control group (WMD = − 50.03, 95% CI: - 94.35 to − 5.71; P = 0.03), but heterogeneity was also significant (I2 = 81%). A subgroup analysis showed no significant differences in ALT and AST levels on POD 1 between groups, regardless of whether the Pringle maneuver or propofol was used for anesthesia (induction only or induction and maintenance, P > 0.05). The remaining outcome indicators were not statistically significant or could not be analyzed due to lack of sufficient data. Conclusion: RIPC has some short-term liver protective effects on HIRIs during hepatectomies. However, there is still insufficient evidence to encourage its routine use to improve clinical outcomes. Pursuing higher topological charge—larger angular indices m of high‐order Laguerre–Gaussian (LG) beams—is not only important for frontier applications like optical/quantum communication, optical tweezers, and super‐resolution imaging, but also involves a novel laser cavity and beam dynamics. Active methods to directly generate high‐order‐mode vortex beams from a laser cavity have excellent power handling and conversion efficiency, but struggle to achieve hundred‐level ultra‐high‐order LG modes. Here, the generation of ultra‐high‐order LG beams with m beyond 300 is demonstrated, utilizing the spherical aberration of a lens in the cavity of a simple end‐pumped Nd:YVO4 laser at 1064 nm. LG0,±m modes with m up to 317, selectable across a large range, are generated. With a simple model, how the mode selection relates to the cavity parameters is explained, and it is predicted that even higher order mode output can be expected by appropriate management of the elements' aperture and laser gain. Background: Fragaria nilgerrensis (FN) provides a rich source of genetic variations for strawberry germplasm innovation. The color of strawberry fruits is a key factor affecting consumer preferences. However, the genetic basis of the fruit color formation in F. nilgerrensis and its interspecific hybrids has rarely been researched. Results: In this study, the fruit transcriptomes and flavonoid contents of FN (white skin; control) and its interspecific hybrids BF1 and BF2 (pale red skin) were compared. A total of 31 flavonoids were identified. Notably, two pelargonidin derivatives (pelargonidin-3-O-glucoside and pelargonidin-3-O-rutinoside) were revealed as potential key pigments for the coloration of BF1 and BF2 fruits. Additionally, dihydroflavonol 4-reductase (DFR) (LOC101293459 and LOC101293749) and anthocyanidin 3-O-glucosyltransferase (BZ1) (LOC101300000), which are crucial structural genes in the anthocyanidin biosynthetic pathway, had significantly up-regulated expression levels in the two FN interspecific hybrids. Moreover, most of the genes encoding transcription factors (e.g., MYB, WRKY, TCP, bHLH, AP2, and WD40) related to anthocyanin accumulation were differentially expressed. We also identified two DFR genes (LOC101293749 and LOC101293459) that were significantly correlated with members in bHLH, MYB, WD40, AP2, and bZIP families. Two chalcone synthase (CHS) (LOC101298162 and LOC101298456) and a BZ1 gene (LOC101300000) were highly correlated with members in bHLH, WD40 and AP2 families. Conclusions: Pelargonidin-3-O-glucoside and pelargonidin-3-O-rutinoside may be the key pigments contributing to the formation of pale red fruit skin. DFR and BZ1 structural genes and some bHLH, MYB, WD40, AP2, and bZIP TF family members enhance the accumulation of two pelargonidin derivatives. This study provides important insights into the regulation of anthocyanidin biosynthesis in FN and its interspecific hybrids. Mining, smelting and tailing deposition activities can cause metal(loid) contamination in surrounding soils, threatening ecosystems and human health. Microbial indicators are sensitive to environmental factors and have a crucial role in soil ecological risk assessment. Xikuangshan, the largest active antimony (Sb) mine in the world, was taken as the research area. The soil properties, metal(loid) contents and microbial characteristics were investigated and their internal response relationships were explored by multivariate statistical analysis. The assessment of the single pollution index and Nemerow synthetic pollution index (P N) showed that the soils were mainly polluted by Sb, followed by Cd and As, in which sampling site S1 had a slight metal(loid) pollution and the other sampling sites suffered from severe synthetic metal(loid) pollution. The microbial characteristics were dissimilar among sampling points at different locations from the mining area according to hierarchical cluster analysis. The correlation analysis indicated that fluorescein diacetate hydrolase, acid phosphatase, soil basal respiration and microbial biomass carbon were negatively correlated with P N , indicating their sensitivity to combined metal(loid) contamination; that dehydrogenase was positively correlated with pH; and that urease, potential ammonia oxidation and abundance of ammonia-oxidizing bacteria and archaea were correlated with N (nitrogen) contents. However, β-glucosidase activity had no significant correlations with physicochemical properties and metal(loid) contents. Principal components analysis suggested bioavailable Sb and pH were the dominant factors of soil environment in Xikuangshan Sb mining area. Based on the trade data of digitizable products exported by China to the 65 'Belt and Road' countries from 1998 to 2018, this study adopts the extended trade gravity model to analyze the impact of ICT on the country's exports of these products. The empirical results show that ICT has a significant and positive effect on the development of trade of digitizable products and it also promotes China's exports by lowering trade costs and accelerating innovation. Many sediment attributes have been proposed as proxies for determining salinity conditions under which sediment is deposited, and six attributes (Sr/Ba-HAc, Sr/Ba-NH4Ac, δ13Corg, C/N, and the relative abundances and concentrations of dinoflagellate cysts) are compared here. In this paper, sediment attributes from the Fraser River Delta, Canada and surrounding coastal areas are compared by depositional position along the fluvial-to-marine transition, by salinity, and by sedimentological characteristics. Along the fluvial-to-marine transition, most attributes exhibit distinct trends between parts of the river that experience sustained marine water (saltwater) influence over seasonal and tidal timeframes, and parts that experience only freshwater or periodic saltwater influence. No attributes are reliable indicators of depositional position where saltwater incursion is short lived or where water is fresh. Where marine influence is sustained, Sr/Ba-HAc and Sr/Ba-NH4Ac are the most reliable positional indicators along the fluvial-to-marine transition. When compared strictly to salinity, Sr/Ba-HAc, Sr/Ba-NH4Ac, and δ13Corg all correlate predictably except in delta front and prodelta settings. Our data show that all six sediment attributes are heavily impacted by river-derived sedimentation, and it is not appropriate to compare values from strongly river-influenced settings (e.g., deltas) with those from weakly river-influenced settings (e.g., bays and estuaries). The design of highly efficient and stable electrocatalysts for large‐current‐density hydrogen evolution reactions (HER) is an urgent need for commercial industrial electrolyzers. Herein, a novel heterostructure in the form of Pd4S/Pd3P0.95 is constructed through interfacial engineering, which inherits the intrinsic merits of individual components and exposes active sites. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations indicate that the optimized heterostructure not only possesses the largest conductivity and adsorption energy for an oxygen atom, but also can significantly lower the kinetic energy barrier of water molecular dissociation. Accordingly, the optimized Pd4S/Pd3P0.95 heterostructure catalyst is promising for large‐current‐density HERs, requiring an overpotential of merely 284 and 387 mV to deliver an HER current density as high as 500 mA cm−2 in 0.5 m H2SO4 and 1 m KOH, respectively, which is superior to the benchmark 20% Pt/C (378 and 482 mV, respectively). Notably, the heterostructure catalyst runs smoothly to the current density of 1000 mA cm−2 with an overpotential of merely 538 and 486 mV in 0.5 m H2SO4 and 1 m KOH, respectively. Significantly, the heterostructure catalyst also exhibits fast reaction kinetics and remarkable long‐term durability. Background: Prolactinoma is a functional pituitary adenoma that secretes excessive prolactin. Dopamine agonists (DAs) such as bromocriptine (BRC) are the first-line treatment for prolactinomas, but the resistance rate is increasing year by year, creating a clinical challenge. Therefore, it is urgent to explore the molecular mechanism of bromocriptine resistance in prolactinomas. Activation of the P38 MAPK pathway affects multidrug resistance in tumours. Our previous studies have demonstrated that inhibiting MAPK14 can suppress the occurrence of prolactinoma, but the role of MAPK11/12/13/14 (p38 MAPK) signalling in dopamine agonist-resistant prolactinomas is still unclear. Methods: A prolactinoma rat model was established to determine the effect of bromocriptine on MAPK11/12/13/14 signalling. DA-resistant GH3 cells and DA-sensitive MMQ cells were used, and the role of MAPK11/12/13/14 in bromocriptine-resistant prolactinomas was preliminarily verified by western blot, RT-qPCR, ELISA, flow cytometry and CCK-8 experiments. The effects of MAPK11 or MAPK14 on bromocriptine-resistant prolactinomas were further verified by siRNA transfection experiments. Results: Bromocriptine was used to treat rat prolactinoma by upregulating DRD2 expression and downregulating the expression level of MAPK11/12/13/14 in vivo experiments. The in vitro experiments showed that GH3 cells are resistant to bromocriptine and that MMQ cells are sensitive to bromocriptine. Bromocriptine could significantly reduce the expression of MAPK12 and MAPK13 in GH3 cells and MMQ cells. Bromocriptine could significantly reduce the expression of MAPK11, MAPK14, NF-κB p65 and Bcl2 in MMQ but had no effect on MAPK11, MAPK14, NF-κB p65 and Bcl2 in GH3 cells. In addition, knockdown of MAPK11 and MAPK14 in GH3 cells by siRNA transfection reversed the resistance of GH3 cells to bromocriptine, and haloperidol (HAL) blocked the inhibitory effect of bromocriptine on MAPK14, MAPK11, and PRL in MMQ cells. Our findings show that MAPK11 and MAPK14 proteins are involved in bromocriptine resistance in prolactinomas. Conclusion: Bromocriptine reduces the expression of MAPK11/12/13/14 in prolactinomas, and MAPK11 and MAPK14 are involved in bromocriptine resistance in prolactinomas by regulating apoptosis. To describe the fetal death rate of birth defects (including a broad range of specific defects) and to explore the relationship between fetal deaths from birth defects and a broad range of demographic characteristics. Data was derived from the birth defects surveillance system in Hunan Province, China, 2016–2020. Fetal death refers to the intrauterine death of a fetus at any time during the pregnancy, including medical termination of pregnancy. Fetal death rate is the number of fetal deaths per 100 births (including live births and fetal deaths) in a specified group (unit: %). The fetal death rate of birth defects with 95% confidence intervals (CI) was calculated by the log-binomial method. Crude odds ratios (ORs) were calculated to examine the relationship between each demographic characteristic and fetal deaths from birth defects. This study included 847,755 births, and 23,420 birth defects were identified. A total of 11,955 fetal deaths from birth defects were identified, with a fetal death rate of 51.05% (95% CI 50.13–51.96). 15.78% (1887 cases) of fetal deaths from birth defects were at a gestational age of < 20 weeks, 59.05% (7059 cases) were at a gestational age of 20–27 weeks, and 25.17% (3009 cases) were at a gestational age of ≥ 28 weeks. Fetal death rate of birth defects was higher in females than in males (OR = 1.25, 95% CI 1.18–1.32), in rural than in urban areas (OR = 1.43, 95% CI 1.36–1.50), in maternal age 20–24 years (OR = 1.35, 95% CI 1.25–1.47), and ≥ 35 years (OR = 1.19, 95% CI 1.11–1.29) compared to maternal age of 25–29 years, in diagnosed by chromosomal analysis than ultrasound (OR = 6.24, 95% CI 5.15–7.55), and lower in multiple births than in singletons (OR = 0.41, 95% CI 0.36–0.47). The fetal death rate of birth defects increased with the number of previous pregnancies (χ2trend = 49.28, P < 0.01), and decreased with the number of previous deliveries (χ2trend = 4318.91, P < 0.01). Many fetal deaths were associated with birth defects. We found several demographic characteristics associated with fetal deaths from birth defects, which may be related to the severity of the birth defects, economic and medical conditions, and parental attitudes toward birth defects. • The pathogenesis of primary Sjögren's syndrome may be related to cuproptosis. • Cuproptosis-related molecular clusters in primary Sjögren's syndrome were identified. • The three genes of EED, CBL and NFU1 may be associated with primary Sjögren's syndrome. Primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS) is a chronic systemic autoimmune disease characterized by lymphocyte infiltration of the exocrine glands. The typical clinical symptoms of pSS include dryness of the mouth (xerostomia) and eyes (xerophthalmia), fatigue, and joint pain. Cuproptosis is a recently identified mode of programmed cell death that leads to the progression of multiple diseases, and the precise etiology and pathophysiology of pSS remain unknown. Consequently, the aim of our study was to explore cuproptosis-related molecular clusters and identify key genes in pSS. Gene expression profiles of the peripheral blood in the GSE84844 dataset were downloaded to identify the expression characteristics of cuproptosis regulators and immune cell infiltration. Subsequently, further exploration was conducted on the clusters involving cuproptosis-related genes (CRGs) and the corresponding immune cell infiltration, and the WGCNA algorithm was applied to explore the cluster-specific differentially expressed genes. Finally, the best machine prediction model was selected for candidate hub cuproptosis-associated genes and the accuracy of predictive efficiency was verified by the salivary gland in an external dataset (GSE143153) and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Through a comparison of patients with pSS and controls, 7 CRGs and 4 types of immune cells were identified. Immune cell infiltration revealed significant immune heterogeneity in three cuproptosis-related molecular clusters in pSS. The random forest machine model showed the best discriminatory performance (area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) = 1.000) and built a predictive model based on 5 genes, which demonstrated satisfactory performance (AUC = 0.70) in the GSE143153 dataset. Based on serum samples, EED (AUC = 0.557), CBL (AUC = 0.635), and NFU1 (AUC = 0.655) showed lower expression levels in patients with pSS (p = 0.037, p = 0.000, p = 0.000, respectively). In this study, we systematically analyzed the association between pSS and cuproptosis, established a predictive model that screened for high-risk genes linked to the advancement of pSS, and explored the pathogenic mechanisms and novel therapeutic strategies for pSS, targeting EED, CBL and NFU1. Smart City Internet of Things will become a fundamental infrastructure to support massive machine-type communications between the widely deployed sensors serving big cities. Since there exists many location constraints for the existing terrestrial Internet of Things, the non-terrestrial Internet of Things sheds light on breaking these limits. Therefore, this article conducts a comprehensive survey on non-terrestrial Internet of Things technologies for Smart City, which is an important complement to terrestrial Internet of Things. We first present the application scenarios of Internet of Things and point out where the existing terrestrial Internet of Things cannot work perfectly. Two non-terrestrial Internet of Things technical proposals are then introduced, namely satellite Internet of Things and unmanned aerial vehicle Internet of Things. However, the focuses of these non-terrestrial Internet of Things are distinct, that is, the major problems of satellite and unmanned aerial vehicle Internet of Things are the high dynamic nature of channel and high maneuverability of unmanned aerial vehicles, respectively. The key technologies for satellite and unmanned aerial vehicle Internet of Things are then reviewed separately. Both physical and non-physical layer technologies are surveyed for satellite Internet of Things, and the route planning is mainly investigated for the unmanned aerial vehicle Internet of Things. Heterosis or hybrid vigor has been used widely for more than a decade in Canola (Brassica napus) production. Canola hybrids show heterosis in a variety of traits compared to parents, including increased biomass at the early stages of seedling establishment, which is a critical developmental step that impacts future plant growth and seed yield. In this study, we examined transcriptomes of two parental lines, Garnet (Gar) and NX0052 (0052), and their reciprocal hybrids, Gar/0052, at 4 and 8 days after sowing (DAS). In hybrids, early seedling biomass heterosis is correlated with earlier expression of genes in photosynthesis pathways relative to parents. The hybrids also showed early expression of genes in the auxin biosynthesis pathway, consistent with the higher auxin concentrations detected in hybrid seedlings at 4 DAS. Auxin is a key phytohormone that regulates plant development promoting cell expansion and cell proliferation. Consistent with the increased levels of auxin, hybrids have larger and more palisade cells than the parents at the same time point. We propose a possible mechanism of early biomass heterosis through the early establishment of photosynthesis and auxin biosynthesis, providing insights into how transcriptional changes in hybrids are translated into phenotypical heterosis. This finding could be utilized in future Canola breeding to identify hybrid combinations with the superior early seedling establishment and strong levels of hybrid vigor in later plant development. Background: Accumulating studies showed that long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) played vital roles in cancer progression. LncRNA MIR4435-2HG was proved to act as an oncogene in various tumors. However, the underlying function of MIR4435-2HG in ovarian cancer (OC) remains unclear. Methods: The expression levels of MIR4435-2HG, miR-128-3p and cyclin-dependent kinase 14 (CDK14) were analyzed by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). Cell proliferation and apoptosis in OC cells were detected by 3-(4, 5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2, 5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay and flow cytometric analysis, respectively. Transwell assay was applied to evaluate cell migration and invasion. Wound healing assay was performed to monitor the migration rate. Western blot assay was performed to detect the protein levels of Bcl-2, Cleaved PARP, E-cadherin, Vimentin and CDK14 in OC cells. The binding sites between miR-128-3p and MIR4435-2HG or CDK14 were predicted by online tool starBase and their relationship was confirmed by dual-luciferase reporter assay, RIP assay and pull-down experiment. Results: MIR4435-2HG and CDK14 were over-expressed in OC tissues and cells. Patients with high MIR4435-2HG expression had poorer overall survival (OS) than patients with low MIR4435-2HG expression. MIR4435-2HG knockdown inhibited proliferation, invasion and migration but induced apoptosis of OC cells via miR-128-3p/CDK14 axis. In conclusion, MIR4435-2HG knockdown suppressed the progression of OC cells through downregulating CDK14 expression by the promotion of miR-128-3p. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Isoliquiritigenin, liquiritigen, uralenol, and neouralenol are four natural licorice flavonoid compounds extracted from licorice, which have the ability of scavenging free radicals. In this paper, the density functional theory (DFT) was used to study the microscopic reaction mechanism of the four kinds of licorice flavonoids respectively scavenging ·OOCl3C in vivo. At the level of M06-2X/6-311+G(d,p), the geometries of all stationary points for hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) and radical adduct formation (RAF) pathways were optimized. The thermodynamic parameters and kinetic parameters of each reaction pathway were obtained, and the potential energy surface information of each reaction pathway was obtained too. Using the continuum solvation model based on solute electron density (SMD), the influence of the solvation effect on the reaction was calculated. The main mechanisms and reactive sites for the capture of ·OOCl3C by four licorice flavonoids, liquiritigen, isoliquiritigenin, uralenol, and neouralenol, were determined. Research indicates liquiritigen captures ·OOCl3C by HAT mechanism. The HAT pathway on the B′ ring of liquiritigen is the main reactive site. Isoliquiritigenin captures ·OOCl3C in the body through HAT and RAF mechanism. The RAF pathway is the dominant reaction pathway. The C1 site on the carbon–carbon double bond linking the two benzene rings is the main reactive site. Uralenol and neouralenol capture ·OOCl3C by HAT mechanism. The main reactive site of uralenol is B6 site, and the main reactive site of neouralenol is B′ 2 site. By this study, the potential energy surface information difficult to capture by experimental research is obtained, which provides a reliable theoretical basis for the further screening of highly active natural free radical scavengers of flavonoids in licorice and provides the support for the improvement of the development and application technology of licorice. Objective: To explore risk factors for birth defects (including a broad range of specific defects). Methods: Data were derived from the Population-based Birth Defects Surveillance System in Hunan Province, China, 2014–2020. The surveillance population included all live births, stillbirths, infant deaths, and legal termination of pregnancy between 28 weeks gestation and 42 days postpartum. The prevalence of birth defects (number of birth defects per 1000 infants) and its 95% confidence interval (CI) were calculated. Multivariate logistic regression analysis (method: Forward, Wald, α = 0.05) and adjusted odds ratios (ORs) were used to identify risk factors for birth defects. We used the presence or absence of birth defects (or specific defects) as the dependent variable, and eight variables (sex, residence, number of births, paternal age, maternal age, number of pregnancies, parity, and maternal household registration) were entered as independent variables in multivariate logistic regression analysis. Results: Our study included 143,118 infants, and 2984 birth defects were identified, with a prevalence of 20.85% (95%CI: 20.10–21.60). Multivariate logistic regression analyses showed that seven variables (except for parity) were associated with birth defects (or specific defects). There were five factors associated with the overall birth defects. The risk factors included males (OR = 1.49, 95%CI: 1.39–1.61), multiple births (OR = 1.44, 95%CI: 1.18–1.76), paternal age < 20 (OR = 2.20, 95%CI: 1.19–4.09) or 20–24 (OR = 1.66, 95%CI: 1.42–1.94), maternal age 30–34 (OR = 1.16, 95%CI: 1.04–1.29) or > = 35 (OR = 1.56, 95%CI: 1.33–1.81), and maternal non-local household registration (OR = 2.96, 95%CI: 2.39–3.67). Some factors were associated with the specific defects. Males were risk factors for congenital metabolic disorders (OR = 3.86, 95%CI: 3.15–4.72), congenital limb defects (OR = 1.34, 95%CI: 1.14–1.58), and congenital kidney and urinary defects (OR = 2.35, 95%CI: 1.65–3.34). Rural areas were risk factors for congenital metabolic disorders (OR = 1.21, 95%CI: 1.01–1.44). Multiple births were risk factors for congenital heart defects (OR = 2.09, 95%CI: 1.55–2.82), congenital kidney and urinary defects (OR = 2.14, 95%CI: 1.05–4.37), and cleft lip and/or palate (OR = 2.85, 95%CI: 1.32–6.15). Paternal age < 20 was the risk factor for congenital limb defects (OR = 3.27, 95%CI: 1.10–9.71), 20–24 was the risk factor for congenital heart defects (OR = 1.64, 95%CI: 1.24–2.17), congenital metabolic disorders (OR = 1.56, 95%CI: 1.11–2.21), congenital limb defects (OR = 1.61, 95%CI: 1.14–2.29), and congenital ear defects (OR = 2.13, 95%CI: 1.17–3.89). Maternal age < 20 was the risk factor for cleft lip and/or palate (OR = 3.14, 95%CI: 1.24–7.95), 30–34 was the risk factor for congenital limb defects (OR = 1.37, 95%CI: 1.09–1.73), >=35 was the risk factor for congenital heart defects (OR = 1.51, 95%CI: 1.14–1.99), congenital limb defects (OR = 1.98, 95%CI: 1.41–2.78), and congenital ear defects (OR = 1.82, 95%CI: 1.06–3.10). Number of pregnancies = 2 was the risk factor for congenital nervous system defects (OR = 2.27, 95%CI: 1.19–4.32), >=4 was the risk factor for chromosomal abnormalities (OR = 2.03, 95%CI: 1.06–3.88) and congenital nervous system defects (OR = 3.03, 95%CI: 1.23–7.47). Maternal non-local household registration was the risk factor for congenital heart defects (OR = 3.57, 95%CI: 2.54–5.03), congenital metabolic disorders (OR = 1.89, 95%CI: 1.06–3.37), congenital limb defects (OR = 2.94, 95%CI: 1.86–4.66), and congenital ear defects (OR = 3.26, 95%CI: 1.60–6.65). Conclusion: In summary, several risk factors were associated with birth defects (including a broad range of specific defects). One risk factor may be associated with several defects, and one defect may be associated with several risk factors. Future studies should examine the mechanisms. Our findings have significant public health implications as some factors are modifiable or avoidable, such as promoting childbirths at the appropriate age, improving the medical and socio-economic conditions of non-local household registration residents, and devoting more resources to some specific defects in high-risk groups, which may help reducing birth defects in China. Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disease characterised by progressive articular damage, functional loss, and comorbidities. The relationship between cuproptosis, a form of programmed cell death, and RA remains unknown. Therefore, this study aimed to explore cuproptosis-related molecular clusters in RA. Gene expression profiles of GSE93272 were downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus to identify the expression profiles of cuproptosis regulators and the immune infiltration characteristics of RA. The molecular clusters of cuproptosis-related genes and the related immune cell infiltration were explored. Cluster-specific differentially expressed genes were identified using the weighted gene co-expression network analysis. Further, an external dataset (GSE15573) was used, and an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was performed to validate the predictive efficiency. Thirteen cuproptosis-related genes and activated immune responses were identified between patients with RA and controls. Immune infiltration revealed significant immunological heterogeneity in the two cuproptosis-related molecular clusters in RA. Functional enrichment indicated that Cluster1 and Cluster2 were predominantly enriched in the toll-like receptor signalling pathway and regulation of autophagy, respectively. Further, the performance of FAM96A and CGRRF1 genes in the external validation dataset was observed to be relatively satisfactory (area under the receiver operating characteristic curve = 0.687 and 0.674, respectively). Based on our serum samples, FAM96A and CGRRF1 both exhibited higher expression levels in patients with RA (p = 0.001; p = 0.000). To investigate the mechanisms underlying the neuroprotective effect of tacrolimus (FK506) on the hippocampal neurons of rats with status epilepticus (SE). A total of 126 male Wistar rats were randomly and equally divided into the control group, the epilepsy group, and the epilepsy + FK506 group. The epilepsy group and the epilepsy + FK506 group were both injected with pilocarpine to establish SE models. The epilepsy + FK506 group was pretreated with FK506 at 24 h and 1 h prior to pilocarpine injection. The contents of nitric oxide (NO), nitric oxide synthase (NOS), malondialdehyde (MDA), and apoptosis-inducing factor (AIF) of the hippocampus were measured. The expression of neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS) and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) in the hippocampus was determined by immunohistochemistry. Mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) and mitochondria size were also detected by flow cytometry. FK506 could increase the survival of neurons in the hippocampus. Compared with the epilepsy group, the levels of NO, NOS (including nNOS and iNOS), and MDA were obviously decreased by FK506 (P < 0.05). Moreover, FK506 reversed the SE-induced MMP reduction and mitochondrial expansion (P < 0.05). Besides, compared with the epilepsy group, FK506 significantly increased the AIF level in the mitochondrial, but decreased that in the nuclear fractions, respectively (P < 0.05). Abstract The middle and lower reaches of Yangtze River present high rainfall and always have a high water table. Recently drip fertigation has been introduced and widely used for vegetable production in this area. To investigate the effect of shallow groundwater and the newly-developed fertigation on the cucumber water and nitrogen (N) requirement, experiments were carried out in plastic tunnels in Yangzhou, Jiangsu, China, during the 2016 and 2017 growing seasons using a randomized block design with three replicates. Four N rates, 4 irrigation amounts and 2 irrigation intervals (2 d and 4 d) were applied in this experiment. The results showed that irrigation amount of 75% of estimated plant evapotranspiration (ET c) was optimal to obtain the highest yield, indicating shallow groundwater had a considerable contribution to the cucumber plant evapotranspiration in this condition. Fertigation technology improved the irrigation water use efficiency (IWUE) and N use efficiency (NUE) and 75% of the recommended N rate (calculated according to a traditional local nutrient balance method) optimized cucumber yield. Frequent irrigation with low water volume had a beneficial impact on the improvement of cucumber yield, IWUE, NUE and reduced the N leaching. According to this work, the recommended fertigation strategy is 0.75 of recommended N, 0.75 estimated ET c and 2 d irrigation interval in this experiment, in which cucumber yield of 105.4 Mg ha−1, IWUE of 41.1 kg m-3 and NUE of 356.4 kg kg−1 were achieved. Objective: To explore the clinical, imaging, and electroencephalogram (EEG) findings, as well as the treatment and prognosis of five patients with anti-γ-aminobutyric acid B receptor (GABABR) encephalitis and review the current literature to gain a deeper understanding and improve the clinical diagnostic ability of the disease.Methods: Clinical data such as blood examination, imaging, computed tomography (CT), EEG, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings from five patients with anti-GABABR encephalitis were retrospectively analyzed.Results: Based on the imaging data, autoimmune encephalitis with anti-GABABR antibodies displayed subacute onset of episodic memory loss, seizures, and confusion, in addition to signal changes in the medial temporal lobe and/or hippocampus. Anti-GABABR antibodies were found in blood and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in all five patients, although the CSF leukocyte count and the levels of protein, sugar, and chloride showed no obvious abnormalities. On MRI, only two patients presented with abnormal signals in the medial temporal lobe and/or hippocampus. The EEG showed a slow wave rhythm in all five patients. After treatment with methylprednisolone pulse therapy combined with antiepileptic treatment, all five patients recovered well, without any complications.Conclusions: Autoimmune encephalitis with anti-GABABR antibodies may be a severe and refractory disease. Anti-GABABR antibodies tested in CSF and serum play a crucial role in the definitive diagnosis and treatment of autoimmune encephalitis. We previously discovered that phytonutrient genistein rapidly activates cAMP signaling in β-cells and improves islet mass in diabetic mice. However, the mechanism underlying these actions of genistein is still unclear. Here, we show that pharmacological or molecular inhibition of Gαs blocked genistein-stimulated adenylate cyclase activity in plasma membrane and intracellular cAMP production in INS1 cells and islets. Further, genistein stimulation of cAMP generation was abolished in islets exposed to a specific GPR30 inhibitor G15 or islets from GPR30 deficient (GPR30-/-) mice. In vivo, dietary provision of genistein (0.5 g/kg diet) significantly mitigated streptozotocin-induced hyperglycemia in male WT mice, which was associated with improved blood insulin levels and pancreatic islet mass and survival, whereas these effects were absent in Gpr30-/- mice. Genistein treatment promoted survival of INS1 cells and human islets chronically exposed to palmitate and high glucose. At molecular level, genistein activated CREB phosphorylation and subsequently induced Bcl-2 expression, and knockdown of CREB diminished the protective effect of genistein on β-cells induced by lipoglucotoxicity. Finally, deletion of GPR30 in β-cells or islets ablated genistein-induced CREB phosphorylation and its cytoprotective effect. Uralenol and neouralenol are two typical licorice root extracts that presents multiple reactive hydroxyl groups, which are considered as good free radical scavengers. A theoretical study on the primary antioxidant activity of uralenol and neouralenol toward hydroxyl and hydroperoxyl radicals has been carried out using the density functional theory (DFT). A total of 10 reaction pathways of uralenol and neouralenol scavenging two radicals in gas phase and in water phase have been tracked. Neouralenol was found to be a better hydroxyl and hydroperoxyl scavenger than uralenol. In vivo, the more reactive sites in uralenol are U5 and U’1, respectively, for scavenging ·OH and ·OOH; and the more reactive sites in neouralenol are N4 and N’5 for scavenging ·OH and ·OOH, respectively. Background: Pulmonary fibrosis is a chronic progressive disease with limited therapeutic options and inflammatory cytokines play important roles in the pathogenesis of pulmonary fibrosis. Material and method: Here, we investigated the changes of TGF-β1, IL-8, and IL-17 in the serum of bleomycin-A5-induced rats model of pulmonary fibrosis. 120 healthy male Wistar rats were randomly divided into three groups, the control group (n = 30), the model group (n = 45) and the dexamethasone (DEX) group (n = 45). The rats of both model group and DEX group were injected with Bleomycin-A5 (5 mg/kg) through tracheofistulization to induce pulmonary fibrosis, while the rats of the control group were injected with equivalent physiological saline. After operation, DEX (4 mg/kg) was given to the DEX group rats intraperitoneally once a day. Equivalent saline was administered to rats of both the control group and the model group. Results: On the 1st, 14th, and 28th day after operation, pathological changes of the lung tissues, and the levels of serum IL-8, TGF-β1, and IL-17 were measured. The concentrations of serum TGF-β1, IL-8, and IL-17 were significantly increased after bleomycin-A5 treatment, especially on the 14th day (p < .01). There was no significant difference between model group and DEX group in the serum level of TGF-β1 and IL-8, but DEX treatment significantly reduce serum IL-17 level (p < .01). Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are critical regulators in chemoresistance of various tumors including ovarian cancer. Metastasis-associated lung adenocarcinoma transcript 1 (MALAT1) has been reported to be upregulated and contributed to ovarian cancer tumorigenesis. The aim of this study was to explore the roles of MALAT1 and the underlying molecular regulatory mechanism in the chemoresistance of ovarian cancer cells. Our data demonstrated that MALAT1 and Notch1 mRNA were upregulated in ovarian cancer tissues, as well as cisplatin (CDDP)-resistant ovarian cancer cells. A positive correlation between MALAT1 and Notch1 mRNA expression was observed. MALAT1 knockdown significantly attenuated CDDP resistance, and enhanced CDDP-induced apoptosis in CDDP-resistant ovarian cancer cells. MALAT1 knockdown enhanced CDDP-induced apoptosis in vivo , as indicated by upregulation of Bax protein expression and downregulation of Bcl-2 protein expression. Additionally, MALAT1 knockdown inhibited the Notch1 pathway and ABCC1 expression in CDDP-resistant ovarian cancer cells. MALAT1 was demonstrated to interact with Notch1. Notch1 knockdown attenuated CDDP resistance, and downregulated the protein expression of ABCC1 in ovarian cancer cells. The potential ecological risk index (RI) is a diagnostic tool for pollution control which integrate the concentration of heavy metals with ecological effect, environmental effect and toxicity. However, the lack of toxicity coefficients for specific heavy metals limits its widespread use. In this study, we calculated the toxicity coefficient (= 7) for antimony (Sb) based on Hakanson's principles, thus broadening the range of potential applications of this risk assessment tool. Taking the case of Xikuangshan (XKS), the largest Sb mine in the world, we predicted the potential ecological risk factor ( E r i ) of Sb for sediment and soil. This was then compared with the enrichment factor (EF) and index of geoaccumulation ( I geo ). Results showed that Sb shared the similar pollution categories regardless of E r i , EF or I geo indexes was used indicating the appropriateness of the determined toxicity coefficient. Regression analysis results further demonstrated that E r i was in agreement with bioavailable concentrations (Diffusive Gradient in Thin Films and Community Bureau of Reference extraction concentrations), particularly in sediments. Background: To research the effect of China's many-child policy on the number of births and the prevalence of serious teratogenic and disabling defects (STDDs) in Hunan province. Methods: We performed an observational study based on the Birth Defect (BD) Surveillance System of Hunan Province and chose STDD case cards. From 2012–2022, we defined the following 4 periods: the one-child policy (OCP) (2012.01–2013.12), partial two-child policy (PTCP) (2014.1–2015.12), universal two-child policy (UTCP) (2016.1–2020.12), and the early stage of the three-child policy (ETCP) (2021.1–2022.12). Crude odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated to examine the association of policy changes with STDDs. Crame′rʹs V was calculated to estimate the effect sizes. Joinpoint regression analysis and annual percent change (APC) were used for each segment of the trend. Results: A total of 1,652,079 births were included in this analysis. Joinpoint regression analysis showed that the number of perinatal births increased from 2012 to 2017, with APC = 9.52 (95% CI: 7.2 to 11.8), and decreased from 2017 to 2022, with an APC = -10.04 (95% CI: -11.9 to -8.1). The number of mothers over 30 years old gradually increased, from 25.54% during the OCP period to 54.05% during the ETCP period (Ptrend < 0.001). With policy changes, the total prevalence of STDDs increased from 28.10 per 10,000 births during the period of OCP into 46.77 per 10,000 births during the ETCP period by 66.44%. The live birth prevalence of STDDs increased only during the ETCP period (PTCP: OR = 1.27, 95% CI: 0.99–1.24, p = 0.057, UTCP: OR = 1.22, 95% CI: 0.99–1.52, p = 0.067, ETCP: OR = 1.75, 95% CI: 1.37–2.24, p < 0.001). Over the past ten years, there was a decrease in the gestational age at diagnosis (*F = 772.520, p < 0.001), from 24.49 ± 5.65 weeks in 2012 to 20.77 ± 5.17 weeks in 2022. From 2012 to 2022, the percentage of deaths within 7 days decreased with APC = -18.85 (95% CI: -26.4— -10.5, P > 0.05). Conclusion: Many-child policies were associated with a moderate increase in fertility especially for women in urban areas and older women. However, they have lost the ability to control birth since 2017. The total prevalence of STDDs increased over the entire period, but the live birth prevalence increased only during the ETCP period. Scavenging activities of isoliquiritigenin (ISO) and liquiritigenin (LIQ) toward hydroxyl (•OH) and hydroperoxyl (•OOH) radicals were studied using the density functional theory (DFT). Two representative reaction mechanisms, hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) and radical adduct formation (RAF), were investigated. In order to identify the scavenging activity of each active site of ISO and LIQ, the thermodynamic and kinetic parameters of all channels involved in two mechanisms were calculated in both gas and water phases. We found that RAF is the major mechanism of ISO scavenging •OH and •OOH. In the whole reaction of LIQ with •OH/•OOH, B′4-OH group in LIQ is always the most active site, meaning that HAT is the main mechanism of LIQ scavenging •OH/•OOH. For scavenging both radicals, ISO has a much higher activity than LIQ, which is probably due to the nearly planar conjugated conformation of ISO. Laser cladding of homogeneous coating onto ZL205A substrate by using a high-power diode laser was investigated in order to repair casting defects of ZL205A aluminum alloy. Single and multi-layer laser cladding was carried out to optimize laser process parameters. Pores on the cross-sections of the laser-clad coatings were chain-like and distributing along the bottom of the molten pool. Lower powder feed rate and relatively higher laser power were helpful in eliminating porosity defects, and pores larger than 100 μm in diameter were successfully eliminated by optimizing laser and material parameters. The microstructure of the laser-clad coating was columnar and columnar dendrite structures with reticular Al 2 Cu phase precipitating in the grain boundary. The microhardness of the laser-clad coating (about 75 HV) was significantly lower than that of the substrate (about 152 HV), and could be improved to about 134 HV after suitable solution treatment afterward artificial aging treatment, which was helpful to the restoration of coatings' mechanical properties. The antioxidant activity of naturally occurring stilbene compounds piceatannol (PIC) and isorhapontigenin (ISO) scavenging two free radicals (NO and NO2) were studied using density functional theory (DFT) method. Four reaction mechanisms have been considered: hydrogen atom transfer (HAT), radical adduct formation (RAF), single electron transfer (SET), and sequential proton loss electron transfer (SPLET). The reaction channels in water solution were traced independently, and the respective thermodynamic and kinetic parameters were obtained. We found PIC and ISO scavenge NO mainly through RAF mechanism, and scavenge NO2 through HAT mechanism. Ni/WC composite coatings with different weight percentage (0–60%) of WC particle were produced on a stainless steel by diode laser-cladding technology with the aim to improve wear resistance of the stainless steel in the present study. The effects of laser power, WC particle content and rare earth element (La) on the quality of the coatings were investigated. The influences of WC content on microstructure and hardness were investigated. The friction and wear behavior of the laser-clad coatings at room temperature and elevated temperatures of 600 °C and 700 °C were evaluated using a ring-on-block tribometer. Results revealed that the laser-clad composite coatings with WC content ranging from 20 wt.% to 60 wt.% were free of cracks and pores by controlling laser power level and adding 0.4 wt.% La. An increase in WC content increases wear resistance significantly at three test temperatures except for the Ni-20% WC coating. Loss of blood-brain barrier (BBB) integrity is a downstream event caused by traumatic brain injury (TBI). BBB integrity is affected by certain physiological conditions, including inflammation and oxidative stress. Cordycepin is a susbtance with anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative effects. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate whether cordycepin affects TBI-induced impairments of BBB integrity. Using TBI rats as the in vivo model and applying multiple techniques, including stroke severity evaluation, Evans blue assessment, quantitative real-time PCR, Western blotting and ELISA, we investigated the dose-dependent protective effects of cordycepin on the TBI-induced impairments of BBB integrity. Cordycepin treatment attenuated the TBI-induced impairments in a dose-dependent manner, and played a role in protecting BBB integrity. Cordycepin was able to alleviate TBI-induced loss of tight junction proteins zonula occludens protein-1 (ZO-1) and occludin, which are important for BBB integrity. Moreover, cordycepin suppressed pro-inflammatory factors, including IL-1β, iNOS, MPO and MMP-9, and promoted anti-inflammation-associated factors arginase 1 and IL-10. Furthermore, cordycepin inhibited NADPH oxidase (NOX) expression and activity following TBI, probably through NOX1, but not NOX2 and NOX4. Cordycepin has protective effects against brain damages induced by TBI. The protection of cordycepin on BBB integrity was probably achieved through recovery of tight junction proteins, inhibition of local inflammation, and prevention of NOX activity. The mechanism and kinetics underlying reactions between the naturally-occurring antioxidant sinapic acid (SA) and the very damaging ·NO2 and ·OH were investigated through the density functional theory (DFT). Two most possible reaction mechanisms were studied: hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) and radical adduct formation (RAF). Different reaction channels of neutral and anionic sinapic acid (SA-) scavenging radicals in both atmosphere and water medium were traced independently, and the thermodynamic and kinetic parameters were calculated. We find the most active site of SA/SA- scavenging ·NO2 and ·OH is the –OH group in benzene ring by HAT mechanism, while the RAF mechanism for SA/SA- scavenging ·NO2 seems thermodynamically unfavorable. In water phase, at 298 K, the total rate constants of SA eliminating ·NO2 and ·OH are 1.30×108 and 9.20×109 M-1 S-1 respectively, indicating that sinapic acid is an efficient scavenger for both ·NO2 and ·OH. Taxol (paclitaxel) is one of the taxane class of anticancer drugs as a first-line chemotherapeutic agent against many cancers including colorectal cancer, breast cancer, non-small cell lung cancer, ovarian cancer and so on. It is verified to induce cytotoxicity in a concentration and time-dependent manner. Numerous novel formulations of Taxol have been remanufactured for better therapeutic effect. Though Taxol works as a common anticancer drug for a long time in clinical practice, drug resistance is a major limitation of its long-term administration. In-depth research on drug resistance is still in progress and researchers have made some achievements, however, the mechanism or key molecule related to Taxol resistance in colorectal cancer still remains to be explored. In the present study, we observed that the high expression of TXNDC17 (thioredoxin domain containing 17) was associated with Taxol resistance in colorectal cancer cells. And TXNDC17 mediated Taxol resistance was related with increased basal autophagy level. Taxol exposure induced high levels of phospho-STAT3 (Tyr 705) and TXNDC17; and increase of basal autophagy in colorectal cancer cells. TXNDC17 overexpression cells obtained Taxol resistance and a high level of autophagy, and it is not surprising that stable downregulation of TXNDC17 accordingly reversed these phenomena. Interestingly, STAT3 could similarly work as TXNDC17 in spite of slighter effect compared to TXNDC17. And it has been proved that phospho-STAT3 (Tyr 705) possesses transcriptional regulation activity through forming dimmers. Many research revealed that transcription factor STAT3 affected more than 1000 gene products, and TXNDC17 is predicted to be a target gene of STAT3 at UCSC database. For the first time, we found STAT3 could bind promoter region of TXNDC17 (− 623 bp to − 58 bp relative to the transcription start site (TSS)) for regulating its expression. These results suggest the possibility that TXNDC17 could play an important role in Taxol resistance via enhancing autophagy in human colorectal cancer cells. It has been shown that polyethylene glycol (PEG) can reseal membrane disruption on the spinal cord, but only high concentrations of PEG have been shown to have this effect. Therefore, the effect of PEG is somewhat limited, and it is necessary to investigate a new approach to repair spinal cord injury. This study assesses the ability of 1, 2-distearoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoethanolamine- N -[methoxy(poly (ethylene glycol)) 2000] (DSPE-PEG) to recover physiological function and attenuate the injury-induced influx of extracellular ions in ex vivo spinal cord injury. Isolated spinal cords were subjected to compression injury and treated with PEG or DSPE-PEG immediately after injury. The compound action potential (CAP) was recorded before and after injury to assess the functional recovery. Furthermore, injury potential, the difference in gap potentials before and after compression, and the concentration of intracellular ions were used to evaluate the effect of DSPE-PEG on reducing ion influx. Data showed that the injury potential and ion concentration of the untreated, PEG and DSPE-PEG group, without significant difference among them, are remarkably higher than those of the intact group. Moreover, the CAP recovery of the DSPE-PEG and PEG treated spinal cords was significantly greater than that of the untreated spinal cords. The level of CAP recovery in the DSPE-PEG and PEG treated groups was the same, but the concentration of DSPE-PEG used was much lower than the concentration of PEG. In this research, repairing of V-grooves on ductile cast iron substrates has been successfully completed with diode laser cladding technique using Fe-base self-fluxing alloy powder as the cladding material. The repaired samples are free of any defects such as pores and cracks with appropriate process parameters and the V-groove bevel. The bonding interface behavior at different power levels and the effect of the V-groove bevel on the cracking sensitivity of the coatings have been investigated. Optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive microanalysis and X-ray diffraction were used to characterize the cladded layers and bonding interfaces. Microhardness of the repaired samples was evaluated after cladding. The results revealed that good bonding interface with discontinuous fusion zone can be achieved at a lower laser power. The cracking sensitivity of the cladded layer is closely related to the V-groove bevel and the V-groove with larger bevel can be repaired with no cracks and pores. The cladded layers consist of austenite and martensite while some carbides such as Cr 7 C 3 , Fe 7 C 3 and Fe 3 C are formed in the bonding interface. Purpose: There are increasing concerns about infertility of male exposure to high environmental temperatures. Nevertheless, the relationship between heat and accessory sex gland secretion underlying the high ambient temperature-induced poor semen quality has not yet been addressed. Methods: In the present study, five boars were used as an animal model to evaluate semen quality and the secretory function of accessory sex glands. After the boars received 3 days of heat exposure, semen collection was standardized to 18 continual times with a 3-day interval to determine the semen variables of semen volume, semen concentration, abnormal spermatozoa, seminal plasma composition, and testosterone level in the seminal plasma and serum. Results: The total sperm count was lowest by the end of week 2. The higher abnormal spermatozoa percentage were observed by the end of week 2 and persisted until week 6 after heat exposure. Additionally, there was no significant change in semen volume, testosterone level, and concentrations of ions and total protein in the seminal plasma before and after heat exposure. Conclusions: A single 3-day heat exposure caused poor semen quality, but did not disturb accessory sex gland secretion in boars. Declining semen quality might be mainly due to the damaged germ cells, which were sensitive to elevated temperature in hot summer months. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

• The receiver field of view (FoV) of a distributed-cavity laser incorporates cat-eye optics was investigated. • We found that the field curvature (FC) significantly impacts FoV when the laser incorporates long working distances. • The effect of FC can be compensated by choosing proper lens and mirror parameters, or by using a customized aspheric lens. • We proposed three different optimized cat-eye designs with FC corrected. An aperture-limited FoV of over ±20° was realized. The influence of field curvature (FC) on a distributed-cavity laser incorporating cat-eye optics was theoretically and experimentally investigated. We found that the FC can defocus the cat-eye and seriously limit its field of view (FoV), since the cavity stability region becomes very narrow at long working distances of several meters. Three improved cat-eye designs are demonstrated, in which the FC-induced defocusing was compensated by choosing off-the-shelf components with appropriate parameters or by using a customized aspheric lens. With these new designs, a distributed-cavity diode-end-pumped Nd:YVO 4 laser was capable of operating efficiently within a large receiver FoV of ±20°, which was an order of magnitude larger than that achieved prior to optimization (using a traditional cat-eye design), at a long working distance of 5 m. The effectiveness and robustness of these new designs pave the way for alignment-free lasers with long-distributed-cavities, which are essential for resonant laser charging applications. A systematic study of the antioxidation mechanisms behind hydroxyl (•OH) and hydroperoxyl (•OOH) radical scavenging activity of piceatannol (PIC) and isorhapontigenin (ISO) was carried out using density functional theory (DFT) method. Two reaction mechanisms, abstraction (ABS) and radical adduct formation (RAF), were discussed. A total of 24 reaction pathways of scavenging •OH and •OOH with PIC and ISO were investigated in the gas phase and solution. The thermodynamic and kinetic properties of all pathways were calculated. Based on these results, we evaluated the antioxidant activity of every active site of PIC and ISO and compared the abilities of PIC and ISO to scavenge radicals. According to our results, PIC and ISO may act as effective •OH and •OOH scavengers in organism. A4-hydroxyl group is a very important active site for PIC and ISO to scavenge radicals. The introducing of -OH or -OCH3 group to the ortho-position of A4-hydroxyl group would increase its antioxidant activity. Meanwhile, the conformational effect was researched, the results suggest that the presence and pattern of intramolecular hydrogen bond (IHB) are considerable in determining the antioxidant activity of PIC and ISO. In this paper, we report toluene destruction using a spontaneous polarization plasma and photocatalyst reactor in air at atmospheric pressure and room temperature. A spontaneous polarization material (BaTiO 3 ) and photocatalyst (TiO 2 ) were added to the plasma system simultaneously. Three types of catalyst, i.e., TiO 2 , BaTiO 3 , or TiO 2 /BaTiO 3 , were used for toluene removal. The catalyst carrier, type, and amount were important factors in the toluene removal efficiency. The specific energy density and energy yield during the discharge process were investigated. The toluene removal efficiency increased when a spontaneous polarization plasma was combined with the photocatalyst. In terms of toluene removal efficiency, the activity order was TiO 2 /BaTiO 3 > BaTiO 3 > TiO 2 > none. Large amounts of BaTiO 3 in the TiO 2 /BaTiO 3 catalyst gave slightly better conversion. The TiO 2 /BaTiO 3 catalyst not only enhanced the toluene removal efficiency, but also saved energy, making it useful for industrial applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aims: The neural cell adhesion molecule (NCAM) has been reported to be involved in the development of the central nervous system and its mRNA level might decrease in the serum of autistic patients. However, there was no evidence of the association of the NCAM1 gene polymorphisms with autism. In the present study, we enrolled 237 children with autism and 451 healthy control subjects. Then, we used the direct DNA sequencing for genotyping five tag single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the NCAM1 gene. Results: By using case-control association analyses, we found that three SNPs at the NCAM1 gene were associated with autism (rs4937786, p=0.015; rs12418058, p=0.0076; rs1436109, p=0.0023). Two of them remained significant after the Bonferroni multiple testing correction (rs12418058, pcorrcted=0.038; rs1436109, pcorrcted=0.012). Moreover, two of the SNPs were associated with the parental age at conception in autism (rs12418058, p=0.037; rs1436109, p=0.01). Abstract: Soil organic matter (SOM) content in paddy soils is higher than that in upland soils in tropical and subtropical China. The dissolved organic matter (DOM) concentration, however, is lower in paddy soils. We hypothesize that soil moisture strongly controls the fate of DOM, and thereby leads to differences between the two agricultural soils under contrasting management regimens. A 100-day incubation experiment was conducted to trace the fate and biodegradability of DOM in paddy and upland soils under three moisture levels: 45%, 75%, and 105% of the water holding capacity (WHC). 14C labeled DOM, extracted from the 14C labeled rice plant material, was incubated in paddy and upland soils, and the mineralization to 14CO2 and incorporation into microbial biomass were analyzed. Labile and refractory components of the initial 14C labeled DOM and their respective half-lives were calculated by a double exponential model. During incubation, the mineralization of the initial 14C labeled DOM in the paddy soils was more affected by moisture than in the upland soils. The amount of 14C incorporated into the microbial biomass (2.4–11.0% of the initial DOM-14C activity) was less affected by moisture in the paddy soils than in the upland soils. At any of the moisture levels, 1) the mineralization of DOM to 14CO2 within 100days was 1.2–2.1-fold higher in the paddy soils (41.9–60.0% of the initial DOM-14C activity) than in the upland soils (28.7–35.7%), 2) 14C activity remaining in solution was significantly lower in the paddy soils than in the upland soils, and 3) 14C activity remaining in the same agricultural soil solution was not significantly different among the three moisture levels after 20days. Therefore, moisture strongly controls DOM fate, but moisture was not the key factor in determining the lower DOM in the paddy soils than in the upland soils. The UV absorbance of DOM at 280nm indicates less aromaticity of DOM from the paddy soils than from the upland soils. At any of the moisture levels, much more labile DOM was found in paddy soils (34.3–49.2% of the initial 14C labeled DOM) compared with that in upland soils (19.4–23.9%). This demonstrates that the lower DOM content in the paddy soil compared with that in the upland soil is probably determined by the less complex components and structure of the DOM. Abstract: Multiple criteria group decision making (MCGDM) problems have become a very active research field over the last decade. Many practical problems are often characterized by MCGDM. The aim of this paper is to develop a new approach for MCGDM problems with incomplete weight information in linguistic setting based on the projection method. Firstly, to reflect the reality accurately, a method to determine the weights of decision makers in linguistic setting is proposed by calculating the degree of similarity between 2-tuple linguistic decision matrix given by each decision maker and the average 2-tuple linguistic decision matrix. By using the weights of decision makers, all individual 2-tuple linguistic decision matrices are aggregated into a collective one. Then, to determine the weight vector of criteria, we establish a non-linear optimization model based on the basic ideal of the projection method, i.e., the optimal alternative should have the largest projection on the 2-tuple linguistic positive ideal solution (TLPIS). Calculate the 2-tuple linguistic projection of each alternative on the TLPIS and rank all the alternatives according to the 2-tuple linguistic projection value. Finally, an illustrative example is given to demonstrate the calculation process of the proposed method, and the validity is verified by comparing the evaluation results of the proposed method with that of the technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) method. Aims: This network meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the asthma risk associated with dipeptidyl peptidase (DPP)-4 inhibitors, glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs), and sodium-glucose co-transporter (SGLT) 2 inhibitors.Methods: Electronic databases were systematically searched up to March 2021 to include placebo-controlled cardiovascular (or cardiorenal) outcome trials that reported the asthma incidents in patients taking DPP-4 inhibitors, GLP-1RAs, or SGLT2 inhibitors. A random-effects network meta-analysis was conducted to estimate their odds ratio (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs).Results: Nineteen trials including 218 asthma cases among 159,705 patients were included. Compared with placebo, SGLT2 inhibitors (OR, 0.59; 95% CI, 0.38-0.93) were significantly associated with a decreased risk of asthma while both DPP-4 inhibitors and GLP-1RAs did not significantly affect asthma risk. SGLT2 inhibitors were significantly associated with a lower risk of asthma than DPP-4 inhibitors (OR, 0.38; 95% CI, 0.18-0.79). There was no association between GLP-1RAs and DPP-4 inhibitors and between SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP-1RAs in risk of asthma.Conclusions: SGLT2 inhibitors might protect against asthma while DPP-4 inhibitors and GLP-1RAs did not significantly affect the asthma incident. Given the underreporting of asthma in this study, further investigations using real-world data as well as mechanistic studies are warranted to confirm our results. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: A new method is proposed to solve multi-criteria group decision making problems in which both the criteria values and criteria weights take the form of linguistic information based on the traditional idea of VIKOR method. Firstly, the linguistic criteria weights given by all decision makers are transformed into trapezoidal fuzzy numbers, and then aggregated and defuzzified to crisp values. Secondly, the individual linguistic decision matrix given by each decision maker (DM) is transformed into 2-tuple linguistic decision matrix, and then aggregated into collective 2-tuple linguistic decision matrix by 2-tuple linguistic arithmetic mean operation. Thirdly, the 2-tuple linguistic values and are calculated by defining the 2-tuple linguistic positive ideal solution (TL-PIS) and 2-tuple linguistic negative ideal solution (TL-NIS). Furthermore, the compromise solution can be obtained. Finally, a numerical example is used to illustrate the application of the proposed approach, and the method is verified by comparing the evaluation result with that of 2-tuple linguistic TOPSIS (TL-TOPSIS) method. Abstract: Emergency management (EM) is a very important issue with various kinds of emergency events frequently taking place. One of the most important components of EM is to evaluate the emergency response capacity (ERC) of emergency department or emergency alternative. Because of time pressure, lack of experience and data, experts often evaluate the importance and the ratings of qualitative criteria in the form of linguistic variable. This paper presents a hybrid fuzzy method consisting fuzzy AHP and 2-tuple fuzzy linguistic approach to evaluate emergency response capacity. This study has been done in three stages. In the first stage we present a hierarchy of the evaluation index system for emergency response capacity. In the second stage we use fuzzy AHP to analyze the structure of the emergency response capacity evaluation problem. Using linguistic variables, pairwise comparisons for the evaluation criteria and sub-criteria are made to determine the weights of the criteria and sub-criteria. In the third stage, the ratings of sub-criteria are assessed in linguistic values represented by triangular fuzzy numbers to express the qualitative evaluation of experts’ subjective opinions, and the linguistic values are transformed into 2-tuples. Use the 2-tuple linguistic weighted average operator (LWAO) to compute the aggregated ratings of criteria and the overall emergency response capacity (OERC) of the emergency alternative. Finally, we demonstrate the validity and feasibility of the proposed hybrid fuzzy approach by means of comparing the emergency response capacity of three emergency alternatives. Butyrate is a major SCFA produced by microbial fermentation of dietary fiber in the gastrointestinal tract. Butyrate is widely thought to mediate the benefits of fiber and resistant starch consumption to colon health in humans. Besides serving as a substrate for energy production, butyrate has many regulatory effects in animals. Little is known about the signaling mechanisms underlying the regulatory effects of butyrate and other SCFA. In this study, we determined whether butyrate can activate cAMP-protein kinase A (PKA)- cAMP response element (CRE)-binding protein (CREB) signaling in Caco-2 cells, a model of intestinal epithelial cells. Butyrate promoted luciferase expression from a CRE-reporter construct, induced phosphorylation of CREB, increased the activity of PKA, and elevated the levels of cAMP in Caco-2 cells. These data suggest that butyrate activates cAMP-PKA-CREB signaling in Caco-2 cells. Butyrate, however, had no effect on the activities of adenylyl cyclase (AC) and phosphodiesterase (PDE), two enzymes that determine the production and degradation of intracellular cAMP, respectively. Because the activities of AC and PDE are primarily regulated by G protein-coupled receptor (GPR)-mediated intracellular signaling, lack of an effect of butyrate on these two enzymes suggests that butyrate does not activate cAMP-PKA-CREB signaling through GPR. Butyrate-treated Caco-2 cells had greater concentrations of ATP than untreated cells. Because ATP is the substrate for cAMP production, this difference suggests that butyrate may activate cAMP-PKA-CREB signaling in Caco-2 cells through increased ATP production. Overall, this study raises the possibility that some of the regulatory effects of butyrate in animals, including those on the colonocytes, may be mediated by the cAMP-PKA-CREB signaling pathway at the cellular level. Abstract: How to select suitable emergency alternative is critical to emergency management and has attracted much attention for both researchers and practitioners. In the process of evaluating emergency alternative problems, there usually exists incomplete and uncertain information, and the decision makers can not easily express their judgments on the candiates with exact and crisp values. The Dempster–Shafer theory (DST) is well suited for dealing with such problems and can generate comprehensive assessments for different alternatives. In this paper, the DS/AHP method and extended TOPSIS method are incorporated to solve group multi-criteria decision making (GMCDM) problems with incomplete information. The proposed method involves three steps: (1) Identify the focal elements of each decision maker according to the group decision matrix. (2) Construct the group weighted normalized belief interval decision matrix using Dempster’s rule of combination. (3) Propose the Extended TOPSIS approach for group interval data to rank the emergency alternatives. In this method, the positive ideal solution vector is defined as the maximum plausibility of all emergency alternatives with respect to each criterion, and the negative ideal solution vector is defined as the minimum belief of all emergency alternatives with respect to each criterion. An emergency alternative evaluation selection problem is taken as an illustrative example to demonstrate the feasibility and practicability of the proposed methods for group decision making in emergency management. Abstract: Co-doped ZnO films were fabricated using electrodeposition method on the ITO substrates. The structure of the Co-doped ZnO films was analyzed by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscope. The field-emission characteristics of the prepared Co-doped ZnO films were examined using diode structure in a vacuum chamber. The examined results indicate that the Co-doping cause the turn-on field increasing by increasing the concentration of the Co-dopant, probably due to the band gap changing, which could attributed to the sp–d exchange interactions between the band electrons and the localized d electrons of the Co2+ ions substituting Zn ions in the films. Abstract: Multicarbide reinforced metal matrix composite (MMC) layers on a ductile iron (QT600-3) were fabricated by laser surface alloying (LSA) using two types of laser: a 5kW continuous wave (CW) CO2 laser and a 400W pulsed Nd:YAG laser, respectively. The research indicated that LSA of the ductile iron with multicarbide reinforced MMC layers demonstrates sound alloying layers free of cracks and porosities. The microstructure, phase structure and wear properties of MMC layers were investigated by means of scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD), as well as dry sliding wear testing. The microstructure of the alloyed layer is composed of pre-eutectic austenite, ledeburite, spherical TiC, Cr7C3 and Cr23C6 with various morphologies. TiC particles are dispersed uniformly in the upper region of MMC layers. The average hardness of LSA layers by CO2 laser and pulsed Nd:YAG laser is 859 HV0.2 and 727 HV0.2, respectively. The dry sliding wear testing shows the wear resistance of ductile iron is significantly improved after LSA with multicarbide. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
