This study aimed to determine the effects of bovine amniotic fluid combined with bone graft in treating peri-implant bone defects with guided bone regeneration. Twenty female Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into two groups. Bone sockets with a diameter of 4 mm in the coronal part and a diameter of 2.5 mm in the apical part of the implant were created into the corticocancellous bone in the metaphyseal parts of the right tibia bones of all subjects. Implants with a length of 4 mm and a diameter of 2.5 mm were placed in the bone sockets. In the sham surgery group (n = 10) was the circumferential bone defect equivalent to half of the 4-mm implant length, which occurred between the implant and the bone, filled with bovine xenograft. Bovine xenografts were filled with amniotic fluid mixture in the experimental group (n = 10). After 8 weeks of recovery, all rats were sacrificed. The implants were extracted from the soft tissues and the surrounding bone. Subsequently, the bones were decalcified and prepared for histological analysis. The percentage of newly regenerated bone (NRB) formation and fibrosis in the bone defect area around the implant was calculated from all sections. NRB was found in 37.4±4.4% of controls and 41.4±2.63% of test animals (P<0.05 and P=0.024, respectively). Fibrosis formation was found at a rate of 38.6±5.06% in the control group and 33.2±5.38% in the test group (P<0.05 and P=0.033, respectively). Objective To explore the clinical efficacy of Danggui Sini decoction combined with tibia transverse transport guided by three dimensional(3D) guide plate in the treatment of diabetic foot. Methods A total of 40 patients with diabetic foot who visited Jiangxi Provincial People′s Hospital from January 2020 to December 2021 were selected and divided into the osteotomy group(group A) and the osteotomy combined with Danggui Sini decoction group(group B), with 20 cases in each group. The changes of wound healing time, other therapeutic indexes(wound size, depth, skin temperature, wound condition score) and lower limb ischemia index score after treatment were observed. Results No infection spread amputation occurred in all patients, and the wound healing time in the group B was shorter than that in the group A, with statistical significance(P<0. 05). On 14th day after surgery, the reduction value of wound area, increase value of wound skin temperature, reduction value of wound condition score and lower limb ischemia index score in the group B were higher than those in the group A,with statistical significance(P<0. 05). The reduction value of wound depth in the group B was higher than that in the group A,but the difference was not statistically significant(P>0. 05). A trial was conducted to study the effects of probiotic (Miaclost) supplement on experimentally induced hypocalcemic rickets in broiler chicks, a total of 180 one-day-old broiler chicks (Ross 308) were randomly divided into three equal groups 60 chicks per group with 3 replicates (20 birds /replicate) the dietary treatments consisted of a normal ration for G1, calcium-deficient ration 5% for G2 and calcium-deficient ration with addition of probiotics in drinking water for G3.Initial signs of rickets have been observed at 35-day of age in G2.while, in G1 and G3 no clinical signs observed, the gross lesions appeared enlargement of parathyroid gland, costochondral junction and increase in the width of growth plate of tibial bone of G2 whereas no gross lesions recorded in G1 and G3, the histopathological examination of parathyroid gland in G2 there were a focal parathyroid hyperplasia and increasing in numbers of syncytial cells and normal in G1 and G3, no intestinal histopathological changes in G1 and G2 and increase in height and width of the intestinal villi in probiotic group G3. Marked increase in the thickness of proliferation zone within growth plate of tibia bone in G2 and normal thickness in G1 and G3. the serum biochemical analysis of calcium of G2 recorded significantly low level in G2 and high level in G3 comparatively with G1, finally the serum alkaline phosphatase values were high significantly in G2 and normal in G3, it is concluded that probiotic (MiaClost) can be used as prophylaxis to prevent hypocalcemic rickets in broiler chicks [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of tibial autogenous bone grafting in the treatment of patients with alveolar bone defects.Materials and Methods: The study subjects consisted of 12 patients (10 male, 2 female, age: 19-51 years) who underwent reconstructive autogenous bone-grafting procedures. The medial approach to the tibial bone was used to harvest autogenous cancellous bone grafts in all the patients. Clinical parameters (complications at the donor and recipient sites, resorption and volume of the grafts) were evaluated retrospectively.Results: The mean age of the patients was 36.25 ± 0.9 years. Of the 12 patients, 5 (41.7%) received bone grafts for sinus augmentation, 3 (25%) for cyst cavity reconstruction and 4 (33.3%) for alveolar cleft reconstruction procedures. The average follow-up period was 28.4 months (range: 21-40 months). An average of 5.2 cm3 of cancellous bone was harvested for grafting procedures. All the grafting procedures were successful, and there were no surgical complications during the harvesting protocol. In all cases, pain and gait disturbance lasted less than 2 weeks.Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that the use of tibial autogenous bone graft harvested using a medial approach was a safe, simple and effective method for grafting various alveolar bone defects where high amounts of cancellous bone grafts were needed with low morbidity. Two biological experiments were carried out to find out the optimum energy, protein and calcium requirements in prelay pullet diets. Experiments involved different protein, energy and calcium levels during pre-lay period, two to three weeks before sexual maturity. It was revealed that a pre-lay diet with 2700 kcal/kg of energy, 18 per cent protein with 1.5 or 2 per cent calcium produced pullet at lower cost, had better body protein and fat and influenced bone status in terms of higher defatted dry tibial bone weight and longer and wider tibial bone. It could be concluded that pre-lay diet containing 2700 kcal/kg of dietary energy, 18 per cent C.P. and 2 per cent calcium is advisable for pullets before sexual maturity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

High-energy tibial pylon fractures represent some of the most severe injuries of the ankle joint and currently represent a challenge for the orthopedic surgeon. These are usually polytraumatized patients and before admitting them into the traumatology unit, spinal cord, pelvic or thoracoabdominal injuries should be ruled out. Due to the special anatomy of the area, its thin skin cover and subcutaneous location, soft tissues are usually severely affected and this is key when choosing the time for a surgical intervention. Although the definitive treatment of these injuries is controversial, the so called two-stage treatment seems to predominate in order to minimize soft tissue iatrogenic injuries applying the concept of orthopedic damage control of the limb. It has been previously suggested that multiple sclerosis (MS) patients are at increased risk for osteoporosis due to reduced mobility, decreased exposure to sunlight and recurrent steroid treatment. In order to systematically evaluate bone strength we assessed 256 MS patients (171 females, 75 males) through quantitative ultrasound measurement of cortical bone. Tibial speed of sound (SOS, m/sec) was measured at midpoint of the tibial shaft using a Soundscan 2000 (Myriad Ultrasound Systems, Rehovot, Israel) and results were compared to age- and gender-matched population norms. T-score distribution in male MS patients was similar to normal population. In contrast, for female MS patients T-score distribution was significantly different from population norms, reflected by increased SOS in 30.4% (T-score intervals 1 - 2 and > 2 above normal values; P = 0.001), compared with 7.4% in controls. These findings held true for both female patients younger and older than 45 years of age. Increased neurological disability and specifically motor involvement were more frequent in female patients with increased SOS (P < 0.05). Bone strength was preserved in MS patients.
