Abstract: Magnetovolume effect in Nd7Rh3 single crystal has been studied by measuring the magnetostriction as a function of external magnetic field at 4.2K. An irreversible magnetovolume effect having a negative remanent volume magnetostriction was observed when the external magnetic field was applied along the b-axis. The irreversible magnetostrictive effect takes place in the longitudinal magnetostriction along the b-axis. The remanent magnetostriction along the b-axis relaxes after removing external magnetic field for several hours and equilibrium state is stabilized. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: Amorphous transparent conductive oxide films in the In–Zn–O system were deposited on polycarbonate (PC) substrates by simultaneous DC sputtering of an In2O3 target and a ZnO target with either 4wt% Al2O3 or 7.5wt% Ga2O3 impurities. Although the resistivity of the amorphous, non-doped In–Zn–O film on PC was about one order of magnitude higher than that on the glass substrate, the resistivity of the In–Zn–O films with Ga2O3 impurities on PC substrates was reduced to the level of the non-doped In–Zn–O films on glass substrates. The addition of Al2O3 or Ga2O3 to the In–Zn–O films also induced the widening of the optical band gap, which would improve transparency at blue wavelengths. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

The paper builds a theoretical model of endogenous growth motivated by the recent Indian paradox of an improving GDP growth rate in the face of unsatisfactory employment growth rate. The source of the problem is believed to be inadequate growth of manufacture for the absorption of unskilled or semi-skilled labour in rural sectors. The paper studies the impact of free trade on employment and GDP growth in a small, developing economy in the absence as well as presence of foreign direct investment . The model also recognizes the importance of public infrastructure accumulation to support the growth process. The results indicate that free trade with or without a corresponding free inflow of foreign capital into the manufacturing sector has a positive impact on employment and GDP growth. However, the beneficial effect is stronger in the presence of foreign capital. Foreign and domestic capital grow at equal rates in equilibrium. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

According to our studies if relative wealth appears in the reduced-form utility function (for example, because of status-seeking) then the poor will catch up with the rich if the elasticity of marginal utility of relative wealth is greater than the elasticity of marginal utility of consumption. We give sufficient conditions for the final distribution of wealth to be independent of the initial distribution and conditions for saddlepoint-stability in a two-class model. We show that indeterminacy arises in a discrete-time competitive two-country dynamic model of international trade in which externalities, imperfect competition, public goods, and government intervention are assumed away. The present model is a standard dynamic trade model in the sense that there is neither an international credit market nor international factor mobility, and these intrinsic features are a source of indeterminacy.
