Abstract

The article discusses a study on the administration of exogenous orexin-A and its ability to relieve ischemia-reperfusion injury by facilitating hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF)-1 activity. The rats used in the study subjects were treated with various doses of orexin-A or vehicle prior to ischemia and during the onset of reperfusion. Results revealed the alleviation by orexin-A of neurologic deficit scores. It also minimized infarct volume after reperfusion.
