Accurate thermodynamic stability predictions enable data-driven computational materials design. Standard density functional theory (DFT) approximations have limited accuracy with average errors of a few hundred meV/atom for ionic materials, such as oxides and nitrides. Thus, insightful correction schemes as given by the coordination corrected enthalpies (CCE) method, based on an intuitive parametrization of DFT errors with respect to coordination numbers and cation oxidation states, present a simple, yet accurate solution to enable materials stability assessments. Here, we illustrate the computational capabilities of our AFLOW-CCE software by utilizing our previous results for oxides and introducing new results for nitrides. The implementation reduces the deviations between theory and experiment to the order of the room temperature thermal energy scale, i.e., ∼25 meV/atom. The automated corrections for both materials classes are freely available within the AFLOW ecosystem via the AFLOW-CCE module, requiring only structural inputs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The repercussions of the pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus over recent years have posed an unprecedented challenge for the whole of society, affecting the well-being of everyone. Among all the variables affected in relation to well-being, Anxiety, Emotional Intelligence, and Effective Personality (Self-Esteem, Academic Self-Realisation, Resolute Self-Efficacy, Social Self-Realisation) have been highlighted. The aim of this study is to assess the evolution of those variables across three temporal phases: pre-pandemic, during the pandemic, and up until the end of the study in April 2022. A study was conducted during these temporal phases with three cohorts from Spanish Universities. The cohorts were formed of people assessed for Anxiety (660 pre-pandemic, 460 during the pandemic, and 311 at the end of the study), Emotional Intelligence (355 pre-pandemic, 91 during the pandemic, 311 at the end of the study), and Effective Personality (708 pre-pandemic, 174 in 2018, 311 at the end of the study). Anxiety was assessed with the State–Trait Anxiety Inventory, Emotional Intelligence with the Trait Meta-Mood Scale and TMMS-24, and Effective Personality with the Cuestionario Personalidad Eficaz-Universidad (the Effective Personality Questionnaire-University). The results showed a rise in the state of anxiety during COVID-19, with a subsequent reduction two years into the pandemic; however, anxiety rates remained higher than before the pandemic. Emotional intelligence increased in the emotional attention factor, but diminished as regards both clarity and regulation. Effective Personality was at lower levels for all factors (Self-Esteem, Academic Self-Realisation, Resolute Self-Efficacy, Social Self-Realisation). The main conclusion was the need for assistance with the dimensions under study, in order to improve the well-being of university students after the serious effects caused by COVID-19. Imagining natural scenes enables us to engage with a myriad of simulated environments. How do our brains generate such complex mental images? Recent research suggests that cortical alpha activity carries information about individual objects during visual imagery. However, it remains unclear if more complex imagined contents such as natural scenes are similarly represented in alpha activity. Here, we answer this question by decoding the contents of imagined scenes from rhythmic cortical activity patterns. In an EEG experiment, participants imagined natural scenes based on detailed written descriptions, which conveyed four complementary scene properties: openness, naturalness, clutter level and brightness. By conducting classification analyses on EEG power patterns across neural frequencies, we were able to decode both individual imagined scenes as well as their properties from the alpha band, showing that also the contents of complex visual images are represented in alpha rhythms. A cross-classification analysis between alpha power patterns during the imagery task and during a perception task, in which participants were presented images of the described scenes, showed that scene representations in the alpha band are partly shared between imagery and late stages of perception. The rational fertilisation of olive trees, based on adding exclusively the nutrients that are actually needed, is important from both the economic and environmental sustainability points of view. This paper employs UAV-obtained multispectral data collected from five different orchards located in Southern Spain to build a set of models for the prediction of the leaf nutrient content of olive trees using Support Vector Regression. The paper shows the convenience of addressing the problem as a Multiple Instance Regression, and compares two strategies of data aggregation and different choices of feature vectors derived from the raw multispectral data. The models provided good results for N, P and K (r 2 = 0.76, r 2 = 0.87 and r 2 = 0.91, respectively for the Hojiblanca model, and r 2 = 0.79, r 2 = 0.80 and r 2 = 0.80 for the Picual model). The rest of nutrients studied also offered good results for both the Picual and Hojiblanca models, ranging from r 2 = 0.69 for B to r 2 = 0.93 for Cu. The results indicate a robust performance of the models and a potential for improvement with the addition of more data, along with an advantage of considering individual models for each cultivar variety. Overall, these results are very promising for the estimation of the leaf nutrient content of olives trees and the detection of spatial variability in the fertilisation needs of orchards. Ketosis is currently regarded as a major metabolic disorder of dairy cows, reflective of the animal's efforts to adapt to energy deficit while transitioning into lactation. Currently viewed as a pathology by some, ketosis is associatively implicated in milk production losses and peripartal health complications that increase the risk of early removal of cows from the herd, thus carrying economic losses for dairy farmers and jeopardizing the sustainability of the dairy industry. Despite decades of intense research in the mitigation of ketosis and its sequelae, our ability to lessen its purported effects remains limited. Moreover, the association of ketosis to reduced milk production and peripartal disease is often erratic and likely mired by concurrent potential confounders. In this review, we discuss the potential reasons for these apparent paradoxes in the light of currently available evidence, with a focus on the limitations of observational research and the necessary steps to unambiguously identify the effects of ketosis on cow health and performance via controlled randomized experimentation. A nuanced perspective is proposed that considers the dissociation of ketosis—as a disease—from healthy hyperketonemia. Furthermore, in consideration of a growing body of evidence that highlights positive roles of ketones in the mitigation of metabolic dysfunction and chronic diseases, we consider the hypothetical functions of ketones as health-promoting metabolites and ponder on their potential usefulness to enhance dairy cow health and productivity. Home range and home range overlap can be used to describe use of space and movement of wildlife. During the last years, advancements in technology have greatly improved our understanding of animal movement, especially among large herbivores. Wild ungulate abundance and distribution have increased in temperate areas. Moreover, their diseases—including sarcoptic mange in the Iberian Ibex (Capra pyrenaica)—have become a cause of concern for livestock, public health, and wildlife conservation. In this study, we first reviewed existing literature on the home range of species in the genus Capra. We then analyzed data from 52 GPS-GSM-collared Iberian ibexes, of which 33 were healthy and 19 were affected by sarcoptic mange from 3 different populations in the southeastern Iberian Peninsula to analyze: (1) differences in size and characteristics of home ranges obtained by the 3 most commonly used methodologies—minimum convex polygon, kernel density estimation, and Brownian bridges movement models (BBMMs); and (2) the impact of endemic sarcoptic mange on Iberian Ibex home range. The literature review revealed that available information on spatial behavior of Capra spp. was based only on 3 species, including the Iberian Ibex, estimated through a diversity of methods which made it difficult to compare results. We found positive correlations among the different home range estimation methods in the Iberian Ibex, with BBMMs proving to be the most accurate. This study is the first to use BBMMs for estimating home range in this species, and it revealed a marked seasonal behavior in spatial use, although sarcoptic mange smoothed such seasonal pattern. The seasonal overlaps obtained suggest that core areas of the Iberian Ibex change within wider home range areas, which are ecological parameters relevant to identifying key areas for species management and conservation. Numerous chemical constraints have been possible for exoplanetary atmospheres thanks to high-resolution spectroscopy (HRS) from ground-based facilities as well as low-resolution spectroscopy (LRS) from space. These two techniques have complementary strengths, and hence combined HRS and LRS analyses have the potential for more accurate abundance constraints and increased sensitivity to trace species. In this work, we retrieve the atmosphere of the ultra-hot Jupiter WASP-76 b, using high-resolution CARMENES/CAHA (Calar Alto high-Resolution search for M dwarfs with Exoearths with Near-infrared and optical Échelle Spectrographs) and low-resolution Hubble Space Telescope 's (HST) Wide Field Camera 3 (WFC3) and Spitzer observations of the primary eclipse. As such, hot planets are expected to have a substantial fraction of H2O dissociated, we conduct retrievals including both H2O and OH. We explore two retrieval models, one with self-consistent treatment of H2O dissociation and another where H2O and OH are vertically homogeneous. Both models constrain H2O and OH, with H2O primarily detected by LRS and OH through HRS, highlighting the strengths of each technique and demonstrating the need for combined retrievals to fully constrain chemical compositions. We see only a slight preference for the H2O-dissociation model given that the photospheric constraints for both are very similar, indicating |$\log (\mathrm{OH/H_2O}) = 0.7^{+0.3}_{-0.3}$| at 1.5 mbar, showing that the majority of the H2O in the photosphere is dissociated. However, the bulk O/H and C/O ratios inferred from the models differs significantly, and highlights the challenge of constraining bulk compositions from photospheric abundances with strong vertical chemical gradients. Identifying the diverse and often competing values of citizens, and resolving the consequent public value conflicts, are of significant importance for inclusive and integrated urban development. Scholars have highlighted that relational, value-laden urban space gives rise to many diverse conflicts that vary both spatially and temporally. Although notions of public value conflicts have been conceived in theory, there are few empirical studies that identify such values and their conflicts in urban space. Building on public value theory and using a case-study mixed-methods approach, this paper proposes a new approach to empirically investigate public value conflicts in urban space. Using unstructured participatory data of 4528 citizen contributions from a Public Participation Geographic Information Systems in Hamburg, Germany, natural language processing and spatial clustering techniques are used to identify areas of potential value conflicts. Four expert interviews assess and interpret these quantitative findings. By integrating quantitative assessments with the qualitative findings of the interviews, we identify 19 general public values and nine archetypical conflicts. On the basis of these results, this paper proposes a new conceptual model of 'Public Value Spheres' that extends the understanding of public value conflicts and helps to further account for the value-laden nature of urban space. Purpose: Depressive disorders cause a major burden of disease worldwide and often lead to a loss of social functioning. Patients suffering from depressive disorders report a lower quality of life (QOL) than people without a history of mental health issues. Internet-based interventions (IBIs) based on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) are effective in reducing symptom severity but data on their impact on quality of life in clinically depressed patients so far is scarce. Methods: Selfapy is a CBT-based IBI for depressive disorders. 401 participants (332 female, mean age 37 (SD = 11) with a diagnosis of major depressive disorder (MDD) or dysthymia were enrolled in a randomized, parallel, three-arm trial comparing a therapist-guided Selfapy intervention with an unguided Selfapy intervention and a waiting list control. QOL was measured using the WHOQOL-BREF at baseline, post-treatment (12 weeks) and at 24-week follow-up. The effects of the interventions on QOL were calculated using linear mixed effects models. Results: At post-treatment (12 weeks) the guided and unguided intervention groups reported an increase in QOL on physical and psychological health domains compared to controls (significant group*time interaction). The gain in QOL was maintained over the follow-up period only for psychological health. QOL decreased in the social relationships and environment domains over the course of treatment and during the follow-up treatment for all participants. There were no differences between the guided and the unguided intervention. Conclusion: Selfapy proved to positively affect psychological and physical QOL in a sample of participants suffering from depressive disorders and can therefore be considered an effective and highly scalable therapeutic tool. The pattern of results might partly be attributable to effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and public health measures that coincided with the trial. Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) is increasingly used as a therapeutic approach for gastrointestinal diseases, especially with the advent of lumen‐apposing metal stents (LAMS). This has led to a rise in of EUS‐guided gastrointestinal anastomosis procedures. Due to the reliability of intestinal conduits with LAMS, indications for EUS‐guided gastrointestinal anastomosis are becoming more common and trend to potentially be standard care for gastric outlet obstruction, afferent loop syndrome, and EUS‐directed transgastric interventions such as EUS‐directed endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography. Retrospective and prospective data indicate that the procedure is becoming widely adopted with promising outcomes. Biological membranes are composed of a lipid bilayer with embedded proteins, including ion channels like the epithelial sodium channel (ENaC), which are critical for sodium homeostasis and implicated in arterial hypertension (HTN). Changes in the lipid composition of the plasma membrane can significantly impact cellular processes related to physiological functions. We hypothesized that the observed overexpression of ENaC in neutrophils from HTN patients might result from alterations in the structuring domains within the plasma membrane, disrupting the endocytic processes responsible for ENaC retrieval. This study assessed the structural lipid composition of neutrophil plasma membranes from HTN patients along with the expression patterns of key elements regulating ENaC at the plasma membrane. Our findings suggest alterations in microdomain structure and SGK1 kinase activity, which could prolong ENaC presence on the plasma membrane. Additionally, we propose that the proteasomal and lysosomal degradation pathways are insufficient to diminish ENaC presence at the plasma membrane in HTN. These results highlight the importance of understanding ENaC retrieval mechanisms and suggest that targeting these mechanisms could provide insights for developing drugs to prevent and treat HTN. Social media has dramatically influenced how individuals and groups express their demands, concerns, and aspirations during social demonstrations. The study of X or Twitter hashtags during those events has revealed the presence of some temporal points characterised by high correlation among their participants. It has also been reported that the connectivity presents a modular-to-nested transition at the point of maximum correlation. The present study aims to determine whether it is possible to characterise this transition using entropic-based tools. Our results show that entropic analysis can effectively find the transition point to the nested structure, allowing researchers to know that the transition occurs without the need for a network representation. The entropic analysis also shows that the modular-to-nested transition is characterised not by the diversity in the number of hashtags users post but by how many hashtags they share. (1) Background: Because life events when there is a family member with a disability can affect the overall family wellbeing, contributing to enhance family quality of life (FQoL) in the field of early childhood intervention has become a priority. However, it is a distal outcome that needs other short-term outcomes to be addressed, some of them under the potential impact of support services. This study examines the relationships between caregiver burden, family confidence, and FQoL, as well as the influence of child and family variables. (2) Method: A total of 58 families with children in early intervention from four Spanish communities participated. Hierarchical regression was conducted to assess the relevance of each predictor. Also, a mediation was performed to investigate the mediating role of family confidence. (3) Results: The family income impacted FQoL scores, and when burden and confidence were added, it was no longer relevant. Mothers with higher levels of confidence predicted a higher FQoL. Finally, we found a complete mediation of family confidence in the relations between severity and caregiver burden on FQoL. (4) Conclusions: Caregiver burden and family confidence affect FQoL. This study is focused on analysing polyphenols and carbohydrates released by Phaeodactylum tricornutum (P. tricornutum) diatoms cultured in natural seawater enriched with sublethal and lethal Cu doses. Cu concentrations of 0.31, 0.79 and 1.57 µM reduced cell densities by 37, 82 and 91%, respectively, compared to the control. The total sum of all identified polyphenols and total carbohydrates released by cells grown under lethal Cu levels increased up to 18.8 and 107.4 times, respectively, compared to data from a control experiment. Four different in vitro assays were used to estimate the antioxidant activities of the extracellular compounds: 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical inhibition, cupric ion reducing antioxidant capacity (CUPRAC), ferric reducing antioxidant power and Cu complexing ability (CCA). The highest antioxidant activities were observed in the Cu lethal treatments, where the CCA assay exhibited a greater increase (up to 32.2 times higher than that found in the control experiment) to reduce the concentration of free Cu in the medium and its toxicity. The presence of Cu stimulated the release of polyphenols and carbohydrates to the medium as a detoxification mechanism to survive under lethal levels of Cu regulating its speciation. Purpose: Early mobilization is an essential component of the Enhanced Recovery after Surgery (ERAS®)-pathway. However, a large percentage of patients fail to achieve the ERAS® recommended goal (360 min out of bed from post-operative day 1/POD1). Motivational Interviewing (MI) is an evidence-based type of patient-centered consultation to promote intrinsic motivation. This study aims to evaluate if MI can improve postoperative mobilization. Methods: This two-arm, patient-blinded pilot randomized controlled trial included ERAS®-patients undergoing elective bowel resections. Conversations were validated by MI Treatment Integrity. Two validated motion sensors (movisens) and self-assessments were used to measure mobilization (POD1–POD3: Time out of bed, time on feet and step count). Results: 97 patients were screened, 60 finally included and randomized. Cumulatively across POD1–3, the intervention group (IG) was longer out of bed than the control group (CG) (median: 685 vs. 420 min; p=0.022). The IG achieved the ERAS®-goal of 360 min/day more frequently across POD1–3 (27.4% vs. 10.61%; p=0.013). Time on feet was 131.5 min/day (median per POD) in IG vs. 95.8 min/day in the CG (p=0.212), step count was 1347 in IG vs. 754 steps/day in CG (p=0.298). Conclusion: MI could be conducted low threshold and was well accepted by patients. MI can improve mobilization in the context of ERAS®. Despite better performance, it should be noted that only 27.4% of the IG reached the ERAS®-compliance goal of 360 min/day. The findings of this pilot study stipulate to further test the promising perioperative effects of MI within a multicenter superiority trial. The electronic nose is a non-invasive technology suitable for the analysis of edible oils. One of the practical applications in the olive oil industry is the classification of virgin oils based on their sensory characteristics. Notwithstanding that this technology, at this stage, cannot realistically replace the currently used methods, it is fruitful for a preliminary analysis of the oil quality. This work makes use of this technology to develop a methodology for the detection of the threshold by which an extra-virgin olive oil (EVOO) drops into the virgin olive oil (VOO) category. With this aim, two features were studied: the level of fruitiness level and the type of defect. The results showed a greater influence of the level of fruitiness than the type of defect in the determination of the detection threshold. Furthermore, three of the sensors (S2, S7 and S9) of the commercial e-nose PEN3 were identified as the most discriminating in the classification between EVOO and VOO oils. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The p.Arg301Gln variant in the α -galactosidase A gene (GLA) has been poorly described in the literature. The few reports show controversial information, with both classical and nonclassical Anderson–Fabry Disease (AFD) presentation patterns. The aim of this study was to analyze the penetrance, clinical phenotype, and biochemical profile of an international cohort of patients carrying the p.Arg301Gln genetic variant in the GLA gene. This was an observational, international, and retrospective cohort case series study of patients carrying the p.Arg301Gln variant in the GLA gene associated with AFD disease. Forty-nine p.Arg301Gln GLA carriers, 41% male, were analyzed. The penetrance was 63% in the entire cohort and 1.5 times higher in men. The mean age of symptoms onset was 41 years; compared to women, men presented symptoms earlier and with a shorter delay to diagnosis. The typical clinical triad—cornea verticillate, neuropathic pain, and angiokeratomas—affected only 20% of the cohort, with no differences between genders. During follow-up, almost 20% of the patients presented some type of nonfatal cardiovascular and renal event (stroke, need for dialysis, heart failure, and arrhythmias requiring intracardiac devices), predominantly affecting men. Residual levels were the most common finding of α-GAL A enzyme activity, only a few women had a normal level; a small proportion of men had undetectable levels. The incidence of combined outcomes including all causes of death was 33%, and the cumulative incidence of all-cause mortality was 9% at the follow-up. Patients carrying the p.Arg301Gln GLA variant have a high penetrance, with predominantly cardiorenal involvement and clinical onset of the disease in middle age. Only a small proportion showed the classic clinical presentation of AFD. As in other X-linked diseases, males were more affected by severe cardiovascular and renal events. Background. The syndrome of tubulointerstitial nephritis and uveitis (TINU) is a rare oculorenal condition, mainly seen in children and women. The underlying cause of this disease is unknown. Case Presentation. We report a 24-year-old male without any past medical history, diagnosed with bilateral uveitis and azotemia. Biopsy revealed tubulointerstitial nephritis, consistent with TINU syndrome. Fluorescein angiogram revealed peripheral retinal vasculitis. Discussion. TINU is a rare disorder that needs to be distinguished from sarcoidosis, Sjogren's disease, and tuberculosis. Treatment is indicated in patients with progressive renal insufficiency, consisting of steroid therapy. Most patients recover kidney function. Integrative studies have revealed cryptic radiations in several Caribbean lineages of heterobranch sea slugs, raising questions about the evolutionary mechanisms that promote speciation within the tropical Western Atlantic. Cyerce Bergh, 1871 is a genus comprising 12 named species in the family Caliphyllidae that lack the photosynthetic ability of other sacoglossans but are noted for vibrant colours on the large cerata (dorsal leaf-like appendages) that characterize many species. Two species are widely reported from the Caribbean: Cyerce cristallina (Trinchese, 1881) and Cyerce antillensis Engel, 1927. Here, we present an integrative assessment of diversity in Caribbean Cyerce. Four methods of molecular species delimitation supported seven species in samples from the Caribbean and adjacent subtropical Western Atlantic. Six delimited species formed a monophyletic lineage in phylogenetic analyses but were > 9% divergent at the barcoding COI locus and could be differentiated using ecological, reproductive and/or morphological traits. We redescribe C. antillensis , a senior synonym for the poorly known Cyerce habanensis Ortea & Templado, 1988, and describe five new species. Evolutionary shifts in algal host use, penial armature and larval life history might have acted synergistically to promote the rapid divergence of endemic species with restricted distributions in this radiation, substantially increasing global diversity of the genus. In this paper, a new approach for head camera stabilization of a humanoid robot head is proposed, based on a bio-inspired soft neck. During walking, the sensors located on the humanoid's head (cameras or inertial measurement units) show disturbances caused by the torso inclination changes inherent to this process. This is currently solved by a software correction of the measurement, or by a mechanical correction by motion cancellation. Instead, we propose a novel mechanical correction, based on strategies observed in different animals, by means of a soft neck, which is used to provide more natural and compliant head movements. Since the neck presents a complex kinematic model and nonlinear behavior due to its soft nature, the approach requires a robust control solution. Two different control approaches are addressed: a classical PID controller and a fractional order controller. For the validation of the control approaches, an extensive set of experiments is performed, including real movements of the humanoid, different head loading conditions or transient disturbances. Compared to sensible heat storage, latent heat storage provides higher energy density due to the enthalpy difference of the storage medium undergoing a phase change. However, the heat storage capability of phase change materials is opposed by low thermal conductivity. To enable sufficient heat transfer within a latent heat storage unit, phase change materials can be used in combination with a metallic matrix. One approach is the infiltration of phase change materials into additively manufactured metallic lattice structures. In this work, the fabrication of aluminum lattice structures through laser powder bed fusion is described. During fabrication, the cell size and the strut diameter were varied to obtain specimens of different geometries. To obtain the thermal conductivity of the fabricated lattices, measurements were conducted based on the transient plane source method. Additionally, finite element simulations were carried out to evaluate the effect of fabrication and measurement uncertainties. The thermal conductivity of the fabricated lattices was found to be between 3 W/(m·K) and 130 W/(m·K). This article contends that sexism plays a fundamental role in the electoral rise of the far right, both as a predisposition and as a changing attitude. Using panel data from Spain, we show that modern sexism is indeed among the most important attitudinal predictors of voting for the far‐right party Vox. The results also show that internal individual changes in levels of modern sexism impact far‐right voting. Backlash attitudinal change, defined as increases in sexism occurring in a context of feminist momentum, contributed significantly to the recent emergence of the radical right. Our findings indicate that sexism is not a crystalized attitude but rather susceptible to showing short‐term changes with important political consequences. A novel approach to enhance the utilization of low-cost and sustainable chitosan for wastewater remediation is presented in this investigation. The study centers around the modification of chitosan beads using a deep eutectic solvent composed of choline chloride and urea at a molar ratio of 1:2, followed by treatment with sulfuric acid using an impregnation accessible methodology. The effectiveness of the modified chitosan beads as an adsorbent was evaluated by studying the removal of the azo dye Reactive Black 5 (RB5) from aqueous solutions. Remarkably, the modified chitosan beads demonstrated a substantial increase in adsorption efficiency, achieving excellent removal of RB5 within the concentration range of 25–250 mg/L, ultimately leading to complete elimination. Several key parameters influencing the adsorption process were investigated, including initial RB5 concentration, adsorbent dosage, contact time, temperature, and pH. Quantitative analysis revealed that the pseudo-second-order kinetic model provided the best fit for the experimental data at lower dye concentrations, while the intraparticle diffusion model showed superior performance at higher RB5 concentration ranges (150–250 mg/L). The experimental data were successfully explained by the Langmuir isotherm model, and the maximum adsorption capacities were found to be 116.78 mg/g at 298 K and 379.90 mg/g at 318 K. Desorption studies demonstrated that approximately 41.7% of the dye could be successfully desorbed in a single cycle. Moreover, the regenerated adsorbent exhibited highly efficient RB5 removal (80.0–87.6%) for at least five consecutive uses. The outstanding adsorption properties of the modified chitosan beads can be attributed to the increased porosity, surface area, and swelling behavior resulting from the acidic treatment in combination with the DES modification. The satellitome of the beetle Chrysolina americana Linneo, 1758 has been characterized through chromosomal analysis, genomic sequencing, and bioinformatics tools. C-banding reveals the presence of constitutive heterochromatin blocks enriched in A+T content, primarily located in pericentromeric regions. Furthermore, a comprehensive satellitome analysis unveils the extensive diversity of satellite DNA families within the genome of C. americana. Using fluorescence in situ hybridization techniques and the innovative CHRISMAPP approach, we precisely map the localization of satDNA families on assembled chromosomes, providing insights into their organization and distribution patterns. Among the 165 identified satDNA families, only three of them exhibit a remarkable amplification and accumulation, forming large blocks predominantly in pericentromeric regions. In contrast, the remaining, less abundant satDNA families are dispersed throughout euchromatic regions, challenging the traditional association of satDNA with heterochromatin. Overall, our findings underscore the complexity of repetitive DNA elements in the genome of C. americana and emphasize the need for further exploration to elucidate their functional significance and evolutionary implications. Ibuprofen (IBP) has demonstrated its toxicological potential toward aquatic biota: affecting microalgae and their nutritional value and altering the population growth of algae-feeding zooplankters. This study assessed the effect of a) IBP sublethal concentrations, and b) three different algal densities (Nannochloropsis oculata at 0.25, 0.50, and 1.00 × 106 cells/mL) on Alona guttata and Lecane papuana. We determined LC50 values for both species (63.476 mg/L and 12.053 mg/L, respectively), and then five sublethal concentrations (based on their respective LC50) were chosen to assess population growth effects. Survival and fertility of A. guttata were affected at the two highest concentrations tested, diminishing population growth, but seemed non-affected by the algal density. In contrast, L. papuana was significantly affected by both factors, IBP and algal concentrations, showing higher sensitivity to IBP at the lowest algal density (EC50 = 0.524 mg/L) in comparison to those organisms fed on 1 × 106 cells/mL (EC50 = 3.097 mg/L). Discussion considered the availability of energy in terms of algal density, the possible biomagnification of IBP from algae to zooplankters, and the algae-mediated biotransformation and removal of IBP. Cyclobutanes are attracting a growing interest in medicinal chemistry because of their unique structure and potentially advantageous pharmacological properties. Specifically, 1,3‐disubstituted cyclobutanes have been explored as conformationally restricted propyl isosteres in drug development. In this study, a concise two‐diversification‐point library of 3‐amino‐3‐[(arenesulfonyl)methyl]cyclobutanols was synthesized through a hyperbaric [2+2] cycloaddition reaction between sulfonyl allenes and benzyl vinyl ether as the key step. Three different sulfonyl allenes were used for synthesizing the core structures that were further derivatized by the addition of up to seven amines. The amino groups were incorporated in a moderate to excellent diastereoselectivity through conjugate addition to the four‐membered‐ring scaffolds. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, scholars mobilized their efforts to address its far-reaching societal problems. With mobility restrictions being front and center of the pandemic, a new cohort of transportation science was developed within a short period of time. Here, we examine more than 400 studies related to COVID-19 published across transportation journals during 2020 and 2021. The aim is (i) to scope this newly developed segment of transportation research, (ii) outline the diversity of pandemic-related issues across various divisions of the transportation field and (iii) provide a roadmap for the future of this line of research. Common themes are identified and existing congruence and discrepancies across findings are discussed. Results show that although conventional methods of transportation research were adopted in virtually all COVID-19 studies, no pre-pandemic study was particularly instrumental in the development of this segment of transportation literature. The COVID-19 segment appears to have developed its own independent knowledge foundation, in that, it does not systemically and frequently look back at any particular pre-pandemic reference. The infection course of Mycobacterium tuberculosis is highly dynamic and comprises sequential stages that require damaging and crossing of several membranes to enable the translocation of the bacteria into the cytosol or their escape from the host. Many important breakthroughs such as the restriction of mycobacteria by the autophagy pathway and the recruitment of sophisticated host repair machineries to the Mycobacterium‐containing vacuole have been gained in the Dictyostelium discoideum/M. marinum system. Despite the availability of well‐established light and advanced electron microscopy techniques in this system, a correlative approach integrating both methods with near‐native ultrastructural preservation is currently lacking. This is most likely due to the low ability of D. discoideum to adhere to surfaces, which results in cell loss even after fixation. To address this problem, we improved the adhesion of cells and developed a straightforward and convenient workflow for 3D‐correlative light and electron microscopy. This approach includes high‐pressure freezing, which is an excellent technique for preserving membranes. Salmonella enterica is a common foodborne, facultative intracellular enteropathogen. Typhoidal serovars like Paratyphi A (SPA) are human restricted and cause severe systemic diseases, while many serovars like Typhimurium (STM) have a broad host range, and usually lead to self‐limiting gastroenteritis. There are key differences between typhoidal and non‐typhoidal Salmonella in pathogenesis, but underlying mechanisms remain largely unknown. Transcriptomes and phenotypes in epithelial cells revealed induction of motility, flagella and chemotaxis genes for SPA but not STM. SPA exhibited cytosolic motility mediated by flagella. In this study, we applied single‐cell microscopy to analyze triggers and cellular consequences of cytosolic motility. Live‐cell imaging (LCI) revealed that SPA invades host cells in a highly cooperative manner. Extensive membrane ruffling at invasion sites led to increased membrane damage in nascent Salmonella‐containing vacuole, and subsequent cytosolic release. After release into the cytosol, motile bacteria showed the same velocity as under culture conditions in media. Reduced capture of SPA by autophagosomal membranes was observed by LCI and electron microscopy. Prior work showed that SPA does not use flagella‐mediated motility for cell exit via the intercellular spread. However, cytosolic motile SPA was invasion‐primed if released from host cells. Our results reveal flagella‐mediated cytosolic motility as a possible xenophagy evasion mechanism that could drive disease progression and contributes to the dissemination of systemic infection. Walking as one type of physical activity generates benefits for personal health and contributes to sustainability in its environmental, economic, and social dimensions. Based on a cross-sectional survey for a representative sample of German cities with at least 100,000 residents, this study investigates determinants of residents' walking behavior. Two contexts of promenading in the city for leisure walking and the trip to the supermarket for utilitarian walking are distinguished in order to investigate differences in respondents' perceived importance of built-environment characteristics and to bridge the gap between the individual level of residents' behavior and the streetscape level. In addition, the analyses distinguish between frequent and less frequent walkers in order to understand differences in characteristics, behavior, preferences, and perceptions between these two groups. The results of this study with a sample of n = 4,637 respondents show that the relevance of the built environment is higher for leisure walking than for utilitarian walking and higher for frequent walkers compared to less frequent walkers. For leisure walking, "protection"-variables are ranked high (e.g. safety, security), followed by "comfort" (e.g. space, surface quality) and by "delight" (e.g. attractive buildings, greenery). Distance is key for utilitarian walking. Significant differences between frequent and less frequent walkers are identified mainly for the "Delight"-variables, this is attractive buildings and greenery for utilitarian walking, and space availability and street furniture for leisure walking. Cold spraying has great potential for additive manufacturing, especially of oxidation-sensitive metals, because the material is not melted and significantly higher deposition rates can be achieved than with conventional additive manufacturing processes such as selective laser melting or direct metal deposition. Titanium is regarded as a high-performance engineering material due to its unique combination of properties, including good corrosion resistance, biocompatibility and high strength at comparatively low density. However, due to its high price, it appears reasonable for many applications to use material compounds in which titanium is only used on the surface of the workpiece, while less expensive materials such as aluminum are used for the remaining volume. In the present work, cold sprayed pure titanium coatings were deposited on Al substrates and then formed to defined 3-dimensional final contours by die forging and rotary swaging. Different porosities were selectively set in order to evaluate their influence on the coating adhesion and cohesion in the forming process. In divided-executive patronal systems, legislatures have been sites of resistance to the centralization of power in a single patronal pyramid. Kyrgyzstan is an anomaly among divided-executive patronal systems when between 2010 to 2020, the Kyrgyz parliament was neither a site of opposition nor did it demonstrate legislative agency vis-à-vis the executive. Instead, following another uprising in 2020, a unified single patronal pyramid was re-established. Adopting an approach rooted in the semiotics of meaning making and drawing on a dataset of interviews with parliamentary deputies and a range of documentary sources, this article complements existing institutional approaches to explaining weak legislative agency by revealing a series of dialogical relationships between deputy meaning making and broader institutional and cultural constraints which shaped the Kyrgyz's parliament's overall quality and strength. These relationships pertain to legislative initiative, the protection of private interests and representation, with the interplay between the ascribed meaning and its constitution within broader institutional and cultural context contributing to the diminishment of legislative agency vis-à-vis the presidency. Kyrgyzstan illustrates the value of meaning making as an approach to understanding legislative-executive relations in non-democratic contexts, and its impact in conjunction with cultural and institutional constraints in shaping legislative agency. Purpose: Increasing access to marker-less technology has enabled practitioners to obtain kinematic data more quickly. However, the validation of many of these methods is lacking. Therefore, the validity of pre-trained neural networks was explored in this study compared to reflective marker tracking from sagittal plane cycling motion. Methods: Twenty-six cyclists were assessed during stationary cycling at self-selected cadence and moderate intensity exercise. Standard video from their sagittal plane was obtained to extract joint kinematics. Hip, knee, and ankle angles were calculated from marker digitisation and from two deep learning-based approaches (TransPose and MediaPipe). Results: Typical errors ranged between 1 and 10° for TransPose and 3–9° for MediaPipe. Correlations between joint angles calculated from TransPose and marker digitalization were stronger (0.47–0.98) than those from MediaPipe (0.25–0.96). Conclusion: TransPose seemed to perform better than MediaPipe but both methods presented poor performance when tracking the foot and ankle. In this segment of the emergency department (ED) palliative care case series, we present a patient who arrives to the ED after a fall resulting in a hip fracture. He is also found to have hypernatremia and an acute kidney injury and develops delirium while in the ED awaiting an inpatient bed. The ED-based integrated geriatric palliative care program is consulted and performs a multidimensional assessment. The geriatric palliative care clinician facilitates discussion with his daughter about surgical intervention based on the patient's goals and values, diagnoses delirium, and worsening depression, creates a plan for delirium and pain management, and accelerates postdischarge planning. Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to provide a new procedure for in-plane compensation of geometric errors that often appear in the layers deposited by an additive manufacturing (AM) process when building a part, regardless of the complexity of the layer geometry. Design/methodology/approach: The procedure is based on comparing the real layer contours to the nominal ones extracted from the STL model of the part. Considering alignment and form deviations, the compensation algorithm generates new compensated contours that match the nominal ones as closely as possible. To assess the compensation effectiveness, two case studies were analysed. In the first case, the parts were not manufactured, but the distortions were simulated using a predictive model. In the second example, the test part was actually manufactured, and the distortions were measured on a coordinate measuring machine. Findings: The geometric deviations detected in both case studies, as evaluated by various quality indicators, reduced significantly after applying the compensation procedure, meaning that the compensated and nominal contours were better matched both in shape and size. Research limitations/implications: Although large contours showed deviations close to zero, dimensional overcompensation was observed when applied to small contours. The compensation procedure could be enhanced if the applied compensation factor took into account the contour size of the analysed layer and other geometric parameters that could have an influence. Computational fluid dynamics is intensively used to deepen our understanding of aneurysm growth and rupture in an attempt to support physicians during therapy planning. Numerous studies assumed fully rigid vessel walls in their simulations, whose sole haemodynamics may fail to provide a satisfactory criterion for rupture risk assessment. Moreover, direct in vivo observations of intracranial aneurysm pulsation were recently reported, encouraging the development of fluid–structure interaction for their modelling and for new assessments. In this work, we describe a new fluid–structure interaction functional setting for the careful evaluation of different aneurysm shapes. The configurations consist of three real aneurysm domes positioned on a toroidal channel. All geometric features, employed meshes, flow quantities, comparisons with the rigid wall model and corresponding plots are provided for the sake of reproducibility. The results emphasise the alteration of flow patterns and haemodynamic descriptors when wall deformations were taken into account compared with a standard rigid wall approach, thereby underlining the impact of fluid–structure interaction modelling. Leukemic stem cells (LSCs) possess similar characteristics to normal hematopoietic stem cells, including self-renewal capacity, quiescence, ability to initiate leukemia, and drug resistance. These cells play a significant role in leukemia relapse, persisting even after apparent remission. LSCs were first described in 1994 by Lapidot et al. Although they have been extensively studied in acute leukemia, more LSC research is still needed in chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) to understand if reduced apoptosis in mature cells should still be considered as the major cause of this disease. Here, we provide new evidence suggesting the existence of stem-like cell populations in CLL, which may help to understand the disease as well as to develop effective treatments. In this study, we identified a potential leukemic stem cell subpopulation using the tetraploid CLL cell line I83. This subpopulation is characterized by diploid cells that were capable of generating the I83 tetraploid population. Furthermore, we adapted a novel flow cytometry analysis protocol to detect CLL subpopulations with stem cell properties in peripheral blood samples and primary cultures from CLL patients. These cells were identified by their co-expression of CD19 and CD5, characteristic markers of CLL cells. As previously described, increased alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity is indicative of stemness and pluripotency. Moreover, we used this method to investigate the potential synergistic effect of curcumin in combination with fludarabine and ibrutinib to deplete this subpopulation. Our results confirmed the effectiveness of this ALP-based analysis protocol in detecting and monitoring leukemic stem-like cells in CLL. This analysis also identified limitations in eradicating these populations using in vitro testing. Furthermore, our findings demonstrated that curcumin significantly enhanced the effects of fludarabine and ibrutinib on the leukemic fraction, exhibiting synergistic effects (combination drug index, CDI 0.97 and 0.37, respectively). Our results lend support to the existence of potential stem-like populations in CLL cell lines, and to the idea that curcumin could serve as an effective adjuvant in therapies aimed at eliminating these populations and improving treatment efficacy. (1) Background: The failure of nickel–titanium (NiTi) rotary files is a complication related to endodontic instruments. The aim of this study was to compare the resistance to cyclic fatigue between rotary and reciprocating file systems. (2) Methods: Specific PICO: Population (P): artificial root canals; Interventions (I): instrumentation with NiTi rotary and reciprocating files; Comparison (C): rotary versus reciprocating files; Outcome (O): cyclic fatigue resistance. Studies were identified through bibliographic research using electronic databases (Medline, Embase, Scopus, SciELO, and WOS). The studies were combined using a random effects model by the inverse variance method. The effect size was the mean of the time to fracture (TTF) and number of cycles to fracture (NCF). Heterogeneity was assessed using the p value of the Q test for heterogeneity and the I2. (3) Results: TTF for rotary files was determined in 474.5 s and 839.1 for reciprocating without statistically significant differences. NCF for rotary systems was determined in 1444.2 and for reciprocating file systems in 4155.9 with statistically significant differences (p = 0.035), making reciprocating files more resistant. (4) Conclusions: Reciprocating files have better resistance to cyclic fatigue than rotary files. When tested in double curvature canals, reciprocating files also showed higher resistance. The aim of this study is to characterise the scientific production in higher arts education, to identify the universities with the highest production, the most researched topics, the directors of the theses, as well as the gender distribution of authors and directors. The production of doctoral theses in the period 1987-2021 was analysed from the TESEO database, identifying 387 doctoral theses, their distribution by university, number of directors and codirectors, and gender distribution of authors and directors. In addition, the Bradford areas of production by university were identified. The University Complutense of Madrid is the institution with the highest production of theses in higher arts education, being in general larger universities the ones with the highest production. Theses predominantly centered on music and performing arts, with less attention to plastic and visual arts. Women are more present than men as authors and directors. The importance of higher arts education as a field of research in Spain is highlighted and the need to promote thematic diversity and equal gender participation in scientific production is evident. Antepartum fetal surveillance (AFS) is essential for pregnant women with diabetes to mitigate the risk of stillbirth. However, there is still no universal consensus on the optimal testing method, testing frequency, and delivery timing. This review aims to comprehensively analyze the evidence concerning AFS and the most advantageous timing for delivery in both gestational and pregestational diabetes mellitus cases. This review's methodology involved an extensive literature search encompassing international diabetes guidelines and scientific databases, including PubMed, MEDLINE, Google Scholar, and Scopus. The review process meticulously identified and utilized pertinent articles for analysis. Within the scope of this review, a thorough examination revealed five prominent international guidelines predominantly addressing gestational diabetes. These guidelines discuss the utility and timing of fetal well-being assessments and recommendations for optimal pregnancy resolution timing. However, the scarcity of clinical trials directly focused on this subject led to a reliance on observational studies as the basis for most recommendations. Respiratory diseases in ruminants are a main cause of economic losses to farmers worldwide. Approximately 25% of ruminants experience at least one episode of respiratory disease during the first year of life. Mannheimia haemolytica is the main etiological bacterial agent in the ruminant respiratory disease complex. M. haemolytica can secrete several virulence factors, such as leukotoxin, lipopolysaccharide, and proteases, that can be targeted to treat infections. At present, little information has been reported on the secretion of M. haemolytica A2 proteases and their host protein targets. Here, we obtained evidence that M. haemolytica A2 proteases promote the degradation of hemoglobin, holo-lactoferrin, albumin, and fibrinogen. Additionally, we performed biochemical characterization for a specific 110 kDa Zn-dependent metalloprotease (110-Mh metalloprotease). This metalloprotease was purified through ion exchange chromatography and characterized using denaturing and chaotropic agents and through zymography assays. Furthermore, mass spectrometry identification and 3D modeling were performed. Then, antibodies against the 110 kDa-Mh metalloprotease were produced, which achieved great inhibition of proteolytic activity. Finally, the antibodies were used to perform immunohistochemical tests on postmortem lung samples from sheep with suggestive histology data of pneumonic mannheimiosis. Taken together, our results strongly suggest that the 110-Mh metalloprotease participates as a virulence mechanism that promotes damage to host tissues. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

LEOMO™ is a commercial inertial measurement unit system that provides cycling-specific motion performance indicators (MPIs) and offers a mobile solution for monitoring cyclists. We aimed to validate the LEOMO sensors during sprint cycling using gold-standard marker-based three-dimensional (3D) motion technology (Qualisys, AB). Our secondary aim was to explore the relationship between peak power during sprints and MPIs. Seventeen elite track cyclists performed 3 × 15s seated start maximum efforts on a cycle ergometer. Based on intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC3,1), the MPIs derived from 3D and LEOMO showed moderate agreement (0.50 < 0.75) for the right foot angular range (FAR); left foot angular range first quadrant (FARQ1); right leg angular range (LAR); and mean angle of the pelvis in the sagittal plane. Agreement was poor (ICC < 0.50) between MPIs derived from 3D and LEOMO for the left FAR, right FARQ1, left LAR, and mean range of motion of the pelvis in the frontal and transverse planes. Only one LEOMO-derived (pelvic rotation) and two 3D-derived (right FARQ1 and FAR) MPIs showed large positive significant correlations with peak power. The construction industry in Cebu City is growing, but sustainability is essential, especially during times of crisis like the COVID-19 pandemic. Some businesses have not enhanced their sustainable practices to survive the new normal. The main objective of this study is to explore the triple bottom line of a construction company in Cebu City, Philippines. The study employed a descriptive-correlational research design, and the sample comprised 58 rank-and-file employees selected through a simple random sampling method. The collected data were analyzed, tabulated, and interpreted using various statistical techniques, namely weighted mean, and Pearson correlation coefficient. The study found that the organization placed a high level of importance on social and economic sustainability, while environmental sustainability was considered moderately significant. The relationship between these three variables was examined, and it was determined that they were positively correlated. The study's conclusion emphasized that balancing economic growth, social inclusion, and environmental preservation is crucial for long-term sustainability. We analyzed the T-cell responses induced by lineal epitopes of glycoprotein 5 (GP5) from PRRSV to explore the role of this protein in the immunological protection mediated by T-cells. The GP5 peptides were conjugated with a carrier protein for primary immunization and booster doses. Twenty-one-day-old pigs were allocated into four groups (seven pigs per group): control (PBS), vehicle (carrier), PTC1, and PTC2. Cytokine levels were measured at 2 days post-immunization (DPI) from serum samples. Cytotoxic T-lymphocytes (CTLs, CD8+) from peripheral blood were quantified via flow cytometry at 42 DPI. The cytotoxicity was evaluated by co-culturing primed lymphocytes with PRRSV derived from an infectious clone. The PTC2 peptide increased the serum concentrations of pro-inflammatory cytokines (i.e., TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-8) and cytokines that activate the adaptive cellular immunity associated with T-lymphocytes (i.e., IL-4, IL-6, IL-10, and IL-12). The concentration of CTLs (CD8+) was significantly higher in groups immunized with the peptides, which suggests a proliferative response in this cell population. Primed CTLs from immunized pigs showed cytolytic activity in PRRSV-infected cells in vitro. To evaluate the agreement between noninvasive arterial blood pressure (NIBP) measured from the tongue and thoracic limb with invasive blood pressure (IBP), and to compare NIBP measured from the tongue and thoracic limb in anaesthetized horses. Prospective clinical study. A group of eight client-owned healthy horses anaesthetized for scheduled procedures, American Society of Anesthesiologists classification I–II, weighing (mean ± standard deviation) 498 ± 91 kg and aged 7.8 ± 6.75 years. Animals were premedicated with intravenous (IV) romifidine (0.04–0.08 mg kg–1) and methadone (0.1 mg kg–1). General anaesthesia was induced IV with ketamine (2.5 mg kg–1) and midazolam (0.05 mg kg–1) and maintained with isoflurane. The facial artery was catheterized for IBP measurements. Systolic (SAP), mean (MAP) and diastolic (DAP) arterial pressures were recorded from the NIBP tongue , NIBP limb and IBP every 20 minutes during the procedure. Agreement between NIBP and IBP was evaluated based on the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine criteria and American Association for Medical Instrumentation criteria using the Bland–Altman method. The mean bias and precision between IBP and NIBP measured from the tongue met the standards for all pressure ranges (< 10 mmHg and < 15 mmHg, respectively). NIBP measurements from the tongue and thoracic limb tended to underestimate IBP measurements. During hypotension, MAP tongue and DAP tongue overestimated IBP, but both precision and accuracy met the criteria. The overall accuracy and precision of NIBP limb was poorer than NIBP tongue. The percentage of NIBP tongue that differed from IBP by < 10 mmHg was higher than that recorded with NIBP limb for SAP (46% versus 25%), MAP (77% versus 28%) and DAP (79% versus 19%). The tongue is a clinically suitable alternative for assessing arterial blood pressure compared with the thoracic limb and can reliably detect hypotension in healthy anaesthetized horses.
