There are approximately 200 million individuals worldwide with intellectual disabilities, and in 2012, more than 4.2 million athletes in 170 countries benefited from SO programs and the 70,000 worldwide competitions. Although SO reaches millions on a yearly basis, there are still areas in the United States where potential athletes are either unaware of these opportunities or training clubs are not readily available. This paper will present the various opportunities that SO has to offer as well as the necessary steps for one to become a volunteer, certified coach, or even start their very own SO training club.
