Obtaining sufficient tumor tissue for genomic profiling is challenging in pancreaticobiliary cancer (PBCA). We determined the utility of molecular barcoding (MB) of liquid biopsies (bile, duodenal fluid, and plasma) for highly sensitive genomic diagnosis and detection of druggable mutations for PBCA. Two in-house panels of 60 genes (non-MB panel) and 21 genes using MB (MB panel) were used for the genomic analysis of 112 DNA samples from 20 PBCA patients. We measured the yield of DNA and compared the genomic profiles of liquid samples obtained using the non-MB panel and the MB panel. The utility of the panels in detecting druggable mutations was investigated. A significantly greater amount of DNA was obtained from bile supernatants and precipitates compared to tumor samples (P < 0.001 and P = 0.001, respectively). The number of mutations per patient was significantly higher using the MB panel than using the non-MB panel (2.8 vs. 1.3, P = 0.002). Tumor-derived mutations were detected more frequently using the MB panel than the non-MB panel (P = 0.023). Five drug-matched mutations were detected in liquid samples. Aim: There are few reports on the safety of endoscopic ultrasound‐guided fine‐needle aspiration (EUS‐FNA) in the elderly. In this study, we investigated the safety of EUS‐FNA for pancreatic solid masses in patients aged ≥80 years. Methods: This is a single‐center retrospective study. A total of 600 patients with pancreatic solid masses who underwent EUS‐FNA under midazolam‐based sedation at our institution between September 2016 and December 2022 were enrolled in this study. Eligible patients were divided into two groups: an elderly group aged ≥80 (n = 84), as well as a nonelderly group aged ≤79 (n = 516). These two groups were compared. Results: The elderly group required significantly fewer midazolam doses for sedation (P < 0.001). Adverse events occurred in eight patients (1.3%), including one (1.2%) and seven (1.4%) in the elderly and nonelderly groups, respectively (P = 0.90). There were no cases of early adverse events in the elderly group and six cases (1.2%) in the nonelderly group (P = 0.32). There was one case of late adverse events in both the elderly and nonelderly groups (P = 0.14), and both were needle tract seeding. There was no significant difference between the two groups in the proportion of cases in which percutaneous oxygen saturation decreased to ≤90% during the EUS‐FNA. Conclusions: Our analysis suggests that EUS‐FNA for pancreatic solid masses can be safely performed in patients aged >80 years without increasing the adverse event rate compared to nonelderly patients aged <80 years. Background: Obtaining sufficient pancreaticobiliary tumor tissue for genomic profiling has limitations. Liquid biopsies using plasma do not provide sufficient sensitivity. Thus, this study aimed to determine the effectiveness of liquid biopsy between bile and plasma for identifying oncogenic and drug‐matched mutations. Methods: This study created a panel of 60 significantly mutated genes specific to pancreaticobiliary cancer (PBCA) and used it for genomic analysis of 212 deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) samples (87 bile supernatant, 87 bile precipitate, and 38 plasma) from 87 patients with PBCA. The quantity of extracted DNA from bile and plasma was compared, as were genomic profiles of 38 pairs of bile and plasma from 38 patients with PBCA. Finally, we investigated 87 bile and 38 plasma for the ability to detect druggable mutations. Results: The amount of DNA was significantly lower in plasma than in bile (p <.001). Oncogenic mutations were identified in 21 of 38 (55%) patients in bile and nine (24%) in plasma samples (p =.005). Bile was significantly more sensitive than plasma in identifying druggable mutations (p =.032). The authors detected 23 drug‐matched mutations in combined bile and plasma, including five ERBB2, four ATM, three BRAF, three BRCA2, three NF1, two PIK3CA, one BRCA1, one IDH1, and one PALB2. Conclusions: Liquid biopsy using bile may be useful in searching for therapeutic agents, and using the obtained genomic information may improve the prognoses of patients with PBCA. Background/Aims: Endoscopic uncovered metal stent (UMS) placement has been widely performed for unresectable hilar malignant biliary stricture (UHMBS). Two stenting methods are used for the two bile duct branches: side-by-side placement (SBS) and partial stent-in-stent placement (PSIS). However, it remains controversial whether SBS or PSIS is superior. This study aimed to compare SBS and PSIS in UHMBS cases with UMS placement in two branches of the IHD. Methods: This retrospective study included 89 cases of UHMBS treated with UMS placement through the SBS or PSIS technique using endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography at our institution. Patients were divided into two groups, SBS (n = 64) and PSIS (n = 25), and compared. Results: Clinical success was achieved in 79.7% and 80.0% in the SBS and PSIS groups, respectively (p = 0.97). The adverse event rate was 20.3% and 12.0% in the SBS and PSIS groups, respectively (p = 0.36). The recurrent biliary obstruction (RBO) rate was 32.8% and 28.0% in the SBS and PSIS groups, respectively (p = 0.66). The median cumulative time to RBO was 224 and 178 days in the SBS and PSIS groups, respectively (p = 0.52). The median procedure time was 43 and 62 min in the SBS and PSIS groups, respectively, which was significantly longer in the PSIS group (p = 0.014). Conclusions: No significant differences were noted in the clinical success rate, adverse event rate, time to RBO, or overall survival between the SBS and PSIS groups, other than the significantly longer procedure time in the PSIS group. Background: Studies indicate that gastric cancer (GC) incidence has decreased, whereas signet ring cell carcinoma (SRC) incidence has increased. However, recent trends in GC incidence are unclear. We used our hospital cancer registry to evaluate the changes in the incidence of GC, SRC, and non-SRC (NSRC) over time in comparison to changes in the H. pylori infection rates over time.Methods: We identified 2532 patients with GC enrolled in our registry between January 2007 and December 2018 and statistically analyzed SRC and NSRC incidence. The H. pylori infection rate in patients with SRC was determined by serum anti-H. pylori antibody testing, urea breath test, biopsy specimen culture, and immunohistochemical analysis (IHC) of gastric tissue. Additionally, genomic detection of H. pylori was performed in SRCs by extracting DNA from formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded gastric tissue and targeting 16S ribosomal RNA of H. pylori.Results: Overall, 211 patients had SRC (8.3%). Compared with patients with NSRC, those with SRC were younger (P <  0.001) and more likely to be female (P <  0.001). Time series analysis using an autoregressive integrated moving average model revealed a significant decrease in SRC (P <  0.001) incidence; NSRC incidence showed no decline. There was no difference in H. pylori infection prevalence between the SRC and NSRC groups. IHC and genomic methods detected H. pylori in 30 of 37 (81.1%) SRCs.Conclusions: Reduction in H. pylori infection prevalence may be associated with the decrease in the incidence of SRC, which was higher than that of NSRC. Background: Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)-guided transluminal drainage has become a first-line treatment modality for symptomatic pancreatic pseudocysts. Despite the increasing popularity of lumen-apposing metal stents (LAMSs), plastic stents may resolve non-necrotic fluid collections effectively with lower costs and no LAMS-specific adverse events. To date, there has been a paucity of data on the appropriate stent type in this setting. This trial aims to assess the non-inferiority of plastic stents to a LAMS for the initial EUS-guided drainage of pseudocysts. Methods: The WONDER-02 trial is a multicentre, open-label, non-inferiority, randomised controlled trial, which will enrol pancreatic pseudocyst patients requiring EUS-guided treatment in 26 centres in Japan. This trial plans to enrol 80 patients who will be randomised at a 1:1 ratio to receive either plastic stents or a LAMS (40 patients per arm). In the plastic stent group, EUS-guided drainage will be performed using two 7-Fr double pigtail stents. In the LAMS group, the treatment will be performed in the same way except for LAMS use. The step-up treatment will be performed via endoscopic and/or percutaneous procedures at the trial investigator's discretion. The primary endpoint is clinical success, which is defined as a decrease in a pseudocyst size to ≤ 2 cm and an improvement in inflammatory indicators (i.e. body temperature, white blood cell count, and serum C-reactive protein). Secondary endpoints include technical success, adverse events including mortality, pseudocyst recurrence, and medical costs. Discussion: The WONDER-02 trial will investigate the efficacy and safety of plastic stents compared to a LAMS in EUS-guided treatment of symptomatic pancreatic pseudocysts with a particular focus on the non-inferior efficacy of plastic stents. Conventional next generation sequencing analysis has provided important insights into cancer genetics. However, the detection of rare (low allele fraction) variants remains difficult because of the error-prone nucleotide changes derived from sequencing/PCR errors. To eliminate the false-positive variants and detect genuine rare variants, sequencing technology combined with molecular barcodes will be useful. Here, we used the newly developed dual-molecular barcode technology (Ion AmpliSeq HD) to analyze somatic mutations in 24 samples (12 tumor tissues and 12 plasma) from 12 patients with biliary-pancreatic and non-small cell lung cancers. We compared the results between next generation sequencing analysis with or without molecular barcode technologies. The variant allele fraction (VAF) between non-molecular barcode and molecular barcode sequencing was correlated in plasma DNA (R2 = 0.956) and tumor (R2 = 0.935). Both methods successfully detected high VAF mutations, however, rare variants were only identified by molecular barcode sequencing and not by non-molecular barcode sequencing. Some of these rare variants in tumors were annotated as pathogenic, and therefore subclonal driver mutations could be observed. Furthermore, the very low VAF down to 0.17% were identified in cell free DNA in plasma. These results demonstrate that the dual molecular barcode sequencing technologies can sensitively detect rare somatic mutations, and will be important in the investigation of the clonal and subclonal architectures of tumor heterogeneity. Introduction: This study aimed to compare the treatment outcomes of endoscopic papillary large-balloon dilation (EPLBD) with and without mechanical lithotripsy (ML) in removing difficult common bile duct stones. Methods: Patients with difficult common bile duct stones treated with EPLBD, with or without ML, at the Eastern Chiba Medical Center between April 2014 and March 2020, were retrospectively evaluated. The rates of cumulative recurrence and complications were compared between the two groups. Results: Overall, 122 patients (n = 44, EPLBD + ML and n = 78, EPLBD) treated by 12 gastroenterologists were included. Patients in the EPLBD + ML group were older (85 years versus 81.5 years) and had larger maximum stone diameter (15 mm versus 12.5 mm) than those in the EPLBD group. Compared with the EPLBD group, the EPLBD + ML group required more endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) procedures (≥2) (86% versus 67%) and longer total ERCP time after reaching the papilla (78.5 minutes versus 25 minutes). Complication rates were not significantly different (9.1% versus 12.8%); however, the cumulative recurrence rates were higher in the EPLBD + ML group than in the EPLBD group (69.4% versus 23.5% at 4 years). Conclusion: Although there were no differences in complication rates, the long-term recurrence rate was higher in the EPLBD + ML group than in the EPLBD group. This study emphasizes the added burden imposed by performing ML during ERCP and suggests that by appropriate case selection, it is possible to treat cases of difficult biliary stones using EPLBD without ML. Background: Multiple gastric cancers at the same time (synchronous) or recurrence after 1 year (metachronous) are frequently encountered. Since their genetic profiles were not well elucidated, we molecularly subtyped the genetic events of synchronous and metachronous early-stage gastric cancers.Methods: We studied mismatch repair (MMR) genes in 84 tumors from 31 patients (15 synchronous and 16 metachronous) by immunohistochemistry. We performed microsatellite instability analysis and targeted sequencing of 58 significantly mutated genes (SMGs) in 35 tumors from thirteen patients. Genomic data from TCGA were used for comparisons with advanced-stage cancers.Results: Among the 31 patients, at least one deficient-MMR (dMMR) tumor was observed in eight (26%). Of eight patients, seven showed a mixture of proficient-MMR (pMMR) and dMMR tumors. The one case with only dMMR had six recurrent tumors within 2 years. To further subtype, we sequenced 58 SMGs in 35 samples (25 pMMR and 10 dMMR) from thirteen patients. In 35 samples, 163 mutations were identified, but none matched in almost cases, strongly indicating different clonal origins, whether synchronous or metachronous occurrences. Of the 25 pMMR cases, 1 belonged to Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), 24 belonged to chromosomal instability (CIN) subtypes. Of the thirteen cases, repetitive CIN, a mixture of CIN and MSI, a mixture of CIN and EBV, and repetitive MSI were observed in nine (70%), two (15%), one (8%) and one (8%), respectively.Conclusions: Despite multiple tumors occurring in the same patient simultaneously or several years apart, clonal origin was totally different. Background: With the increasing popularity of endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)-guided transmural interventions, walled-off necrosis (WON) of the pancreas is increasingly managed via non-surgical endoscopic interventions. However, there has been an ongoing debate over the appropriate treatment strategy following the initial EUS-guided drainage. Direct endoscopic necrosectomy (DEN) removes intracavity necrotic tissue, potentially facilitating early resolution of the WON, but may associate with a high rate of adverse events. Given the increasing safety of DEN, we hypothesised that immediate DEN following EUS-guided drainage of WON might shorten the time to WON resolution compared to the drainage-oriented step-up approach. Methods: The WONDER-01 trial is a multicentre, open-label, superiority, randomised controlled trial, which will enrol WON patients aged ≥ 18 years requiring EUS-guided treatment in 23 centres in Japan. This trial plans to enrol 70 patients who will be randomised at a 1:1 ratio to receive either the immediate DEN or drainage-oriented step-up approach (35 patients per arm). In the immediate DEN group, DEN will be initiated during (or within 72 h of) the EUS-guided drainage session. In the step-up approach group, drainage-based step-up treatment with on-demand DEN will be considered after 72–96 h observation. The primary endpoint is time to clinical success, which is defined as a decrease in a WON size to ≤ 3 cm and an improvement of inflammatory markers (i.e. body temperature, white blood cell count, and C-reactive protein). Secondary endpoints include technical success, adverse events including mortality, and recurrence of the WON. Discussion: The WONDER-01 trial will investigate the efficacy and safety of immediate DEN compared to the step-up approach for WON patients receiving EUS-guided treatment. Background: This study aimed to investigate the validity of pathological diagnosis of early CRC (E‐CRC) from the genetic background by comparing data of E‐CRC to colorectal adenoma (CRA) and The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) on advanced CRC (AD‐CRC). Methods: TCGA data on AD‐CRC were studied in silico, whereas by next‐generation sequencer, DNA target sequences were performed for endoscopically obtained CRA and E‐CRC samples. Immunohistochemical staining of mismatch repair genes and methylation of MLH1 was also performed. The presence of oncogenic mutation according to OncoKB for the genes of the Wnt, MAPK, and cell‐cycle–signaling pathways was compared among CRA, E‐CRC, and AD‐CRC. Results: The study included 22 CRA and 30 E‐CRC lesions from the Chiba University Hospital and 212 AD‐CRC lesions from TCGA data. Regarding the number of lesions with driver mutations in the Wnt and cell‐cycle–signaling pathways, E‐CRC was comparable to AD‐CRC, but was significantly greater than CRA. CRA had significantly more lesions with a driver mutation for the Wnt signaling pathway only, versus E‐CRC. Conclusions: In conclusion, the definition of E‐CRC according to the Japanese criteria had a different genetic profile from CRA and was more similar to AD‐CRC. Based on the main pathway, it seemed reasonable to classify E‐CRC as adenocarcinoma. Although the efficacy and safety of salvage techniques for biliary cannulation in endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) have been reported, few reports analyzed the choice of techniques and their clinical outcomes in large cohorts. This study aimed to evaluate the outcomes of biliary cannulation in patients with native papillae. We retrospectively identified 1021 patients who underwent initial ERCP from January 2013 to March 2020. We investigated background factors, treatment details, cannulation success rates, and adverse event rates. Then we analyzed a series of treatment processes, including salvage techniques such as double guidewire technique (DGT), needle knife pre-cutting (NKP), and transpancreatic pre-cut papillotomy (TPPP). The initial ERCP success rate using standard technique alone was 62.8%, which increased to 94.3% including salvage techniques. Salvage techniques were frequently required in patients with long oral protrusions (OR 2.38; 95% CI 1.80–3.15; p < 0.001). A total of 503 cases (49.3%) had long oral protrusions, 47.5% of which required the salvage techniques, much higher than 27.5% of not-long cases. Patients with long oral protrusions had a higher frequency of NKP. In conclusion, patients with long oral protrusions frequently required salvage techniques. We previously identified insulin-like growth factor-II messenger ribonucleic acid-binding protein 3 (IMP3) as a valuable marker to distinguish malignant from benign lesions in pancreatic solid masses. The aim of this prospective study was to evaluate the usefulness of IMP3 and p53 immunohistochemical staining in endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration (EUS–FNA) samples for pancreatic solid masses. The study recruited 90 consecutive patients with pancreatic masses, including 62 pancreatic ductal adenocarcinomas (PDACs), 11 benign tumors, and 17 other tumors, who underwent EUS–FNA, and conducted IMP3 and p53 immunohistochemical staining. The main outcome measurement was improved diagnostic utility using IMP3 and p53 immunohistochemical staining. IMP3 and p53 expressions were detected in 60.8% and 49.4% of malignant lesions, 69.4% and 58.1% of PDACs, and 0% of benign lesions, respectively. In PDAC and benign tumors, the use of IMP3 and/or p53 immunostaining increased the sensitivity of cytohistological analysis from 88.7 to 93.5%, although the difference was not statistically significant. The sensitivity of histological analysis combined with that of IMP3 staining was 91.9%, which was significantly greater than that of histology alone (80.6%). The use of IMP3 and p53 immunohistochemical staining did not significantly improve the sensitivity of cytohistological analysis; however, IMP3 staining may be helpful for the histological analysis of malignant pancreatic tumors. Background: In Western countries, most patients with primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) have concurrent ulcerative colitis (UC). The number of patients with UC in East Asia has increased markedly over the past two decades. However, current clinical features of PSC and of PSC associated with UC (PSC-UC) have not yet been clarified in East Asia, particularly in Japan. We aimed to reveal the clinical courses and associations with UC in Japanese patients with PSC from the mutual viewpoint of PSC and UC. Methods: We retrospectively retrieved medical records of patients with PSC (69) and UC (1242) who were diagnosed at Chiba University Hospital between June 1991 and August 2017. Results: In the present cohort, 37 patients had PSC-UC; the cumulative risks of PSC in patients with UC and of UC in patients with PSC were 3.0% and 53.6%, respectively. We confirmed similar distinctive results by a Japanese nationwide survey, noting that younger patients with PSC had a notably high possibility of association with UC. From the viewpoint of the UC cohort, the occurrence of right-sided disease was significantly higher in patients with PSC-UC than in those with UC (16.2% vs. 4.2%, P = 0.003). Pancolitis was more commonly observed in PSC-UC, and proctits/left-sided colitis was less commonly found in patients with UC. The number of patients with young-onset PSC-UC may be increasing similar to an increase in patients with UC in Japan. Conclusions: In our cohort, the comorbidity rate of PSC-UC was higher than that obtained in previous reports. Aim: Little is known about the factors that contribute to the occurrence of adverse events in endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) for people aged ≥85 years and safety for the super‐old. Therefore, we decided to identify these factors and to examine whether ERCP is safe in the super‐old. Methods: This was a single‐center retrospective study. A total of 137 patients aged ≥85 years who underwent therapeutic ERCP at Chiba University Hospital from January 2012 to March 2017 were retrospectively reviewed. Results: Four cases of Billroth II reconstruction and two cases of gastrectomy with Roux‐en‐Y reconstruction were excluded, and 131cases in total were examined in the present study. A total of 10 and 121 cases with and without adverse events, respectively, were present. Using univariate analysis, factors significantly contributing to the occurrence of adverse events in therapeutic ERCP were identified as aged ≥90 years (P = 0.0096), duodenal papilla cancer (P = 0.0012), gallbladder carcinoma (P = 0.023), and biliary metal stenting (P = 0.040). In multivariate analysis, only ≥90 years‐of‐age was a significant factor (P = 0.049). In addition, comparison between 25 cases of the super‐old and 106 cases aged 85–89 years was carried out. In the super‐old group, the average value of the American Society of Anesthesiologists physical status classification and Charlson’s Comorbidity Index were significantly better than those in 85–89‐year‐olds (P = 0.0035 and P < 0.0001, respectively). Conclusions: Although the super‐old group had fewer comorbid diseases, they had significantly increased adverse events compared with patients aged 85–89 years. Simple Summary: In this study, we evaluated the microbiota in resected thymoma samples and identified Sphingomonas and Phenylobacterium as the dominant genera in thymomas. This is the first study that evaluated the microbiota in thymoma and that identified bacterial genera specific to thymoma. Furthermore, our study indicates a potential approach for preventing the development of thymoma as a new "precision medicine". The microbiota has been reported to be closely associated with carcinogenesis and cancer progression. However, its involvement in the pathology of thymoma remains unknown. In this study, we aimed to identify thymoma-specific microbiota using resected thymoma samples. Nineteen thymoma tissue samples were analyzed through polymerase chain reaction amplification and 16S rRNA gene sequencing. The subjects were grouped according to histology, driver mutation status in the GTF2I gene, PD-L1 status, and smoking habits. To identify the taxa composition of each sample, the operational taxonomic units (OTUs) were classified on the effective tags with 97% identity. The Shannon Index of the 97% identity OTUs was calculated to evaluate the alpha diversity. The linear discriminant analysis effect size (LEfSe) method was used to compare the relative abundances of all the bacterial taxa. We identified 107 OTUs in the tumor tissues, which were classified into 26 genera. Sphingomonas and Phenylobacterium were identified as abundant genera in almost all the samples. No significant difference was determined in the alpha diversity within these groups; however, type A thymoma tended to exhibit a higher bacterial diversity than type B thymoma. Through the LEfSe analysis, we identified the following differentially abundant taxa: Bacilli, Firmicutes, and Lactobacillales in type A thymoma; Proteobacteria in type B thymoma; Gammaproteobacteria in tumors harboring the GTF2I mutation; and Alphaproteobacteria in tumors without the GTF2I mutation. In conclusion, Sphingomonas and Phenylobacterium were identified as dominant genera in thymic epithelial tumors. These genera appear to comprise the thymoma-specific microbiota. Abstract: A two-dimensional readout micro-strip sensor processed with single-sided silicon processes has been designed and fabricated. Both p+(X) and n+(Y) electrodes are placed on one side. The n+ electrode is surrounded with the p+ strips to make isolation of each n+ electrode. The test chip was fabricated at HPK. The detector properties have been measured and the basic idea of p+ and n+ structure on the sensor has been confirmed. However, a suppression of the breakdown is not sufficient to achieve deep depletion underneath the n+ electrode. This comes from a too thin isolation SiO2 layer between the p+ and n+ readout-strip at the crossing points. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Background: To investigate the efficacy of two-dimensional shear wave elastography (2D-SWE) for the diagnosis of pancreatic mass lesions. Methods: This ethics committee–approved cross-sectional study included 52 patients with histologically-proven pancreatic tumors (pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), 36; tumor-forming pancreatitis (TFP), 15; neuroendocrine tumor, 1) and 33 control subjects. The 2D-SWE was performed for the tumor/non-tumor tissues, and SWE-mapping patterns and propagation quality were assessed. Results: Three mapping patterns were detected based on the size and distribution of the coloring areas. Pattern A (whole coloring) was detected in all non-tumor tissues and TFP, whereas pattern C (multiple small coloring spots) was detected in PDAC only. Pattern B (partial coloring with smaller spots) was detected in other lesions. The specificity and positive predictive value of pattern A for non-PDAC and those of pattern C for PDAC were 100%. The SWE value was higher in tumor lesions than in the non-tumor tissues (38.1 vs. 9.8 kPa; p < 0.001) in patients with PDAC. The SWE value in the non-tumor lesion was higher in patients with PDAC than in control (9.8 vs. 7.5 kPa; p < 0.001). Conclusions: 2D-SWE may play a role as a novel diagnostic tool for PDAC to detect a specific mapping pattern with quantitative assessment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The locations of the pole and rotation axis of asteroid 25143 Itokawa were derived from Asteroid Multiband Imaging Camera data on the Hayabusa spacecraft. The retrograde pole orientation had a right ascension of 90.53° and a declination of -66.30° (52000 equinox) or equivalently 128.5° and -89.66° in ecliptic coordinates with a 3.9° margin of error. The surface area is 0.393 square kilometers, the volume is 0.018378 cubic kilometers with a 5% margin of error, and the three axis lengths are 535 meters by 294 meters by 209 meters. The global Itokawa revealed a boomerang-shaped appearance composed of two distinct parts with partly faceted regions and a constricted ring structure. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
