The aim of the study was to evaluate live weights, body measurements, and real-time ultrasound carcass traits of F1 and BC1 genotypes in a marker assisted introgression (MAI) process. Effects of some factors on live weight and body measurements including ultrasonographic assessments in Musculus longissimus dorsi (MLD) were investigated at the F1 (n=51) and BC1 (n=99) cross lambs born in 2015 -- 2017 period. Variance analysis showed that genotype had significant (P < 0.001) effect on pre- and post-weaning growth characteristics. The birth type had significant (P < 0.05) effect on pre- and post-weaning growth traits. Live weights at twelve months of age were higher in heavier born lambs. The growth performance of F1 lambs was between Texel and Ramlıç. Myostatin heterozygous BC1 lambs had been potentially heavier than the non-carriers and pure Texel. MLD depth and area were also statistically higher (P < 0.05) in BC1 lambs carrying myostatin than non - carriers. In this study, was conducted in 2018, 2019 and 2020 at Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University Agriculture Faculty Department of Field Crops, it was aimed to determine morphological and technological traits of some oleic and mid-oleic type safflower genotypes developed by cross breeding. For this purpose, 11 F2 hybrid genotypes obtained from a cross between Dinçer 5-18-1 cultivar and PI 603208 genotype were used as material and compared to two standard oleic local cultivars and parents of these hybrids (Dinçer 5-18-1, PI 603208, Olas ve Asol). In study to determine the agricultural and technological traits, plant height (cm), branch number, head number, head diameter (cm), 1000 seed weight (g), seed yield (kg da-1), hull ratio (%), oil content (%), oil yield (kg da-1) and fatty acid composition (%) were investigated. According to research findings, seed yield values of hybrid genotypes changed between 120.73-187.80 kg da-1, oil content values 31.67-36.49% and oil yield values 40.43-63.92 kg da-1 and showed a wide variation. The highest oil content among hybrid genotypes were obtained from the EC/ol-7 genotype (36.49%), while the highest seed yield and oil yield among genotypes were obtained from the EC/ol-8 genotype (187.80 and 63.92 kg da-1 respectively). The highest oleic oil content among hybrid genotypes was obtained from the EC/ol-11 genotype (61.79%). In this study, it was determined that 5 genotypes in terms of oil content, seed yield and oleic acid composition (EC/ol 5, EC/ol 6, EC/ol 7, EC/ol 8 and EC/ol 11) are superior of the other genotypes in F2 generation. For the Central Anatolia Region, where barley is grown in large areas, the rapid introduction of new varieties with high malting quality into the production areas will add added value to the country's agriculture. In a crossing made within the scope of barley cultivar development studies, it was aimed to collect the good characteristics of CWB117-5-9-5/ST5819 line and Kalaycı-97 cultivar in one cultivar. The aforementioned hybrid was put into trial as F1 generation in 1999, segregated material between 2000-2003 and observation nursery in 2004. It was selected for pre-yield trial in 2005 and yield trial in 2006. It was tested in Eskişehir Karabayır location by taking part in the yield trial stage in 2007 and 2008. The material ranked first with a yield of 675 kg/da in 2017 and fourth place with a yield of 638 kg/da in 2008. The Sabribey variety, which is wintertype, two-row and resistant to lodging, was registered as malting barley variety in 2019, taking into account its yield and quality values. The important features of Sabribey barley variety are 64.3-74.1 kg/hl hectoliter weight, 30.8-31.9 g per thousand grain weight, grain starch 60.9-64.9%, grain protein 9.4-13.9%, 2.5+2.8 mm sieve 45.2-88.4%, under sieve 2.4-5.0%, size class 3-8, husk ratio 9.5-10.2%, friability value 51.9-85.4%, fine extract 75.2-78.9%, Hartong number 35.7-37.0%, kolbach number 57.6-102%. Cherry is one of the fruit species that are loved and consumed all over the world and provide high levels of income to its producers. However, in the cultivation of old cherry varieties, there are important problems such as yield, quality and self-incompatibility. At this point, our country, which is an important cherry producer and exporter, needs to develop its own productive and high quality new varieties in order to maintain and increase its competitive power in the world markets. In this context, sweet cherry cultivar breeding studies by hybridization were initiated by Eğirdir Fruit Research Institute (MAREM) in 2007. In this study, it was aimed to determine the self-fertility status and S-allele incompatibility genes of 27 promising sweet cherry genotypes obtained as a result of crosses (0900 Ziraat x self-compatible or incompatible varieties) performed in MAREM. Self-pollination and fruit set rates of the genotypes were determined for two years in 2015 and 2016. Identification of S-allele genes was determined by molecular studies. In the study, fruit set rates of the genotypes varied between 0%-33% in self-pollination and 3%-54% in free-pollination. Although an idea about the self-fertility status of the genotypes is provided in field studies, it has been understood that no definite conclusion can be reached. In molecular studies, bands showing S1, S3, S9 and S12 self-incompatibility alleles and S4' self-compatibility allele were produced according to the results obtained in PCR amplification. The self-compatibility allele (S4') was found in 13 of the genotypes. Genotypes are divided into seven different groups of S-alleles; namely S1S3, S1S4', S1S12, S3S4', S3S9, S3S12 and S4'S12. The present study was carried out to identify the reproductive characteristics, survival rate, growth traits and some body measurements of Bafra (B), Akkaraman (A), Bafra × Akkaraman F1 (BAF1) and Bafra × Akkaraman B1 (BAB1) sheep genotypes. The research was performed at Gözlü State Farm, belonging to the General Directorate of Agricultural Enterprise (TİGEM), during the years of 2014-2016. In the study, lambing rates of B×B, A×A, B×A and B×BAF1 mating groups were 55.25, 69.97, 67.25 and 64.91%; the lamb production were 92.27, 88.93, 87.54 and 122.81% and the litter sizes were 1.67, 1.27, 1.30 and 1.89, respectively. The survival rates of B, A, BAF1 and BAB1 lambs were calculated as 89.89, 94.23, 88.79 and 98.36% in the 90th day, respectively (P<0.05). The least square means of these lambs were 3.65±0.05, 4.71±0.07, 4.56±0.06 and 4.03±0.10 kg (P<0.001) for birth weight and 23.51±0.30, 31.39±0.37, 30.00±0.35 and 25.16±0.53 kg (P<0.001) for the 90th day weight (weaning weight), respectively. Body measurements of these genotypes on the 90th day were 56.79±0.45, 61.75±0.54, 60.98±0.59 and 61.73±0.62 cm (P<0.001) for the withers height; 55.76±0.32, 55.18±0.39, 56.91±0.42 and 57.43±0.45 cm (P<0.01) for the body length; 63.05±0.73, 71.88±0.89, 60.89±0.96 and 61.92±1.02 cm (P<0.001) for the chest girth; and 16.63±0.50, 40.45±0.62, 28.33±0.67 and 18.33±0.70 cm (P<0.001) for the widest tail circumference, respectively. In conclusion, the reproductive performance of the BAF1 genotype was satisfactory; BAF1 lambs were partially similar to A lambs, but BAB1 lambs were partially similar to B lambs in terms of growth characteristics. This study was carried out to determine some growth, milk and progeny yield characteristics of Southern Anatolian Red (Kilis), Holstein and Kilis cattle first crosbred generation (HFxKilis, F1) and backcross to the paternal breed (HFxF1, B1) crossbred in the GAP International Agricultural Research and Training Center in Diyarbakır. In this study, milk yield of lactation in Kilis, F1 and B1 cattle were determined as 2001.88 kg, 2686.31 and 3901.59 kg; respectively (P<0.001). Also, the lactation period of Kilis cattle and crossbreds were 222.55, 244.5 and 278.17 days, respectively. The lactation period of Kilis cattle was significantly shorter than that of crossbred cattle (P<0.05). Additionally, the birth and the weaning weights of the offspring were found at least in the Kilis calfs and the highest value in the B1 crossbreed calfs (P<0.05). As a result of this study, crossbreeding between Holstein and Kilis cattle, birth weight, weaning weight of calves, milk yield and lactation duration were increased in crossbred cows. In this study, the shortening of the breeding period was targeted in safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) by zygotic immature seeds culture on the 12th day after hybridization. Dinçer 5-118, Remzibey-05 and Balcı varieties were used in this study and the hybridizations were done according to half-diallel hybridization method. The general success rate was 48.55% in hybridization and 584 numbers zygotic immature seeds were cultured from 150 receptacle during the study. As a result, the highest success rate of regeneration in cultured embryos was obtained from M5519 medium (15.82%) followed by MSD4 (13.43%) and LS2.5 mediums (6.21%). As a result, hybrid seed production can be achieved by using the embryo or zygotic immature seeds culture technique in the safflower and the breeding process can be shortened. Based on these results, the nutrienth media, used for embryo culture, should not be including hormones such as BAP and 2.4-D. Lentil is one of the most important grain legumes, which plays a significant role in human nutrition and animal feed through the world. In developing countries, the prohibitively high cost of meat has rendered, lentil, with its high seed protein and essential amino acid content, important source of dietary protein. In this research, 181 lentil advanced lines (F7 generation) of Karacadağ x Silvan and Karacadağ x Çağıl 2004 crosses were evaluated for grain yield, yield components and seed mineral concentrations in two diverse environments in Turkey. Considerable diversity was observed with regard to yield components and seed mineral concentrations in the advanced lentil lines. The greatest phenotypic diversity was observed in the biological yield, number of pods and weight of pods per plant, the number of seeds and weight of seeds per plant, and seed Ca, Zn and Fe concentrations. Grain yield per plant was significantly positively correlated with the biological yield per plant, number of pods per plant, weight of pods per plant, and number of seeds per plant. Plant grain yield and yield components were strongly positively correlated with seed potassium (K), calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg) and zinc (Zn) concentrations but was negatively correlated with Fe concentration. In conclusion, promising lentil advanced lines for the grain yield, yield components and mineral concentrations could be evaluated for developing new lentil varieties and spesific breeding purposes. This study was conducted in a fruit orchard located in Kızılcaköy, Aydın in 2012 and 2013. There are ten-yearsold three different fruit size, namely small (HK), medium (HO) and large (HB), jujube (Ziziphus jujuba Mill.) genotypes were used. For pomological measurements, the fruit values are as follows: width 24.02 mm (HK)- 37.35 mm (HB), length 29.47 mm (HK)-43.73 mm (HB), and weigth 8.21 g (HK)-28.85 g (HB). Fruit firmness (3.49 (HK)-3.89 (HO)), L, a, b values, TSS (25.73 (HB)-32.00 (HK)), TA (11.57 (HB)-12.13 (HO)), pH (4.64 (HO ve HB )- 4.87 (HK)) did not significantly different among jujube genotypes. The taste of the fruit resembles to apple according to panelists. The values for seeds were width 8.18 mm (HK)-9.43 mm (HO) and length 15.99 mm (HK)- 25.38 mm (HO), and weigth 0.68 g (HK)-1.16 g (HB). The flower buds, fowers, and fruit can be observed at the same time on the tree. The number of anthers per flower is five in three jujube genotypes. The number of pollens per anther was changed 171.85 (HO)-760.00 (HK) and that of per flower was changed 859.25 (HO)-3800.00 (HK). The pollen viability with IKI test was 85.59% (HK)-92.26% (HB) in 2012 and 64.94% (HO)-89.78% (HB) in 2013. The highest pollen germination was obtained as 1.92% (HO)-24.48% (HB) with 1% agar+15% saccharose. In open- pollination, fruit set was found 18.81% (HO)-42.39% (HB) in 2012 in three jujube genotypes. In this study, MANOVA and Multidimensional Scaling techniques were used for 11 slaughter traits (body weight, skin weight, head weight, leg weight, lung weight, heart weight, liver weight, spleen weight, testis weight, penis weight, internal fat weight) and 18 carcass traits (hot carcass weight, cold carcass weight, right forequarter weight, right hindquarter weight, hot kidney weight, hot kidney fat weight, cold kidney weight, cold kidney fat weight, sirloin weight, rib-eye weight, short loin weight, round weight, bone weight, rib-eye area, fat thickness, hot dressing percentage, cold dressing percentage, bone ratio) to compare Turkish native cattle breeds (Native Black, East Anatolian Red, Southeast Anatolian Red), crossbreed (Native Black × Brown Swiss) and foreign breeds (Simmental, Holstein, Brown Swiss) in Turkey. Results of the two methods were similar and supported each other. Differences between foreign breeds (Simmental, Holstein and Brown Swiss) and native breeds and crossbreed (Native Black, East Anatolian Red, Southeast Anatolian Red, Native Black × Brown Swiss) were highly significant in favor of the foreign breeds. Simmental had the highest values in all traits except for testes weight and bone ratio. Holstein and Brown Swiss had similar values in all other traits except for skin weight, rib-eye weight and bone ratio. Native Black × Brown Swiss crossbreed had the highest and Native Black cattle had the lowest values among the three native breeds and crossbreed for all the 28 traits investigated, except for bone ratio. Pleurotus eryngii is a commercially produced mushroom. Spores obtained from four wild basidiocarps of Pleurotus eryngii which were collected from different regions of Turkey were germinated in this study. Single spore isolates were crossed by each other in order to obtain new hybrids. Mycelial growth rate of new hybrids were determined by measuring diameter of colonies which incubated in PDA. The nine new hybrids which were determined active mycelial growth rate were improved at the end of this study. New hybrids can be used in the production of commercial spawn. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this study was to compare some fleece and fibre characteristics of kids of Coloured mohair goat with F1 crossbred kids of Angora x Coloured mohair goat to reveal the effects of this cross-breeding on mohair production, clean yield, and fibre quality. This study was carried out using goats of the Coloured mohair goat breed at the Experimental Farm of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Yüzüncü Yıl University. Four Angora goats were used as male material. In 2001, greasy fleece weight, clean mohair yield, fibre diameter, fibre length, fibre elasticity, breaking strength, kemp fibre content, and medullated fibre content of kids at 12 months of age (36 F1 cross-bred, 18 pure) were examined. Greasy fleece weight and clean mohair yield were 420 g and 74.3% for kids of Coloured mohair goat, and 830 g and 75.9% for F1 cross-bred kids. Mean values for fibre diameter, fibre length, fibre elasticity, breaking strength, kemp fibre content, and medullated fibre content were 36.4 μm, 7.4 cm, 32.4%, 8.2 g, 16.2%, and 13.1% for kids of Coloured mohair goat, and 30.1 μm, 7.8 cm, 31.6%, 6.3 g, 3.4%, and 2.3% for F1 cross-bred kids, respectively. The effect of genotype (but not sex) on greasy fleece weight, fibre diameter, breaking strength, kemp fibre content, and medullated fibre content were significant (P < 0.001). Effects of genotype and sex on fibre length, fibre elasticity, and clean yield were not significant (P > 0.05). In conclusion, an overall improvement of mohair production traits was observed on F1 kids developed by crossing Angora goat and Coloured mohair goat. It could be supposed that Angora goats have been selected more for mohair production compared to Coloured mohair goats. This study was conducted to compare the growth and survival characteristics of crossbred lambs produced by mating Kıvırcık ewes with German Black-Headed Mutton (GBM) x Kıvırcık (F2) rams, GBM x Merino (F2) rams, as well as the growth and survival characteristics of purebred Kıvırcık lambs. The data were obtained from 59 (GBM x Kıvırcık) x Kıvırcık, 59 (GBM x Merino) x Kıvırcık, and 60 purebred Kıvırcık lambs. The birth weights of (GBM x Kıvırcık) x Kıvırcık, (GBM x Merino) x Kıvırcık, and purebred Kıvırcık lambs were 4.08, 4.32, and 3.85 kg, respectively. The differences of birth weight between the genotype groups were statistically significant (P < 0.001). The weaning weights of these groups were 19.33, 19.38, and 17.58 kg, respectively. The difference in weaning weights between the crossbred genotypes was not significant (P > 0.05), whereas the differences between the crossbred lambs and the purebred Kıvırcık lambs were significant (P < 0.05). The effects of genotype, birth type, sex, and age of dam on the growth of lambs were investigated. All these effects, except age of dam, were significant. Among the genotypes, 88.13%, 91.53%, and 90.00% of the lambs survived to be weaned, respectively. The results of this study showed that crossbred lambs produced by the use of F2 rams, which carry the GBM genotype, had higher growth performance than purebred Kıvırcık lambs, although they had similar survival rates. South Anatolian Red (SAR) cattle are well adapted to the arid, hot and harsh conditions of the region and have the highest milk yield among the local breeds in Turkey. The purpose of this study was to determine the main productive characteristics, such as viability, reproduction and milk production, of F1, B1 and F1XB1 crossbred genotype groups from Simmental x SAR crossbreeding. A t test was used for 2 group comparisons. In cases of insufficient numbers of variants in the groups Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney U tests were used where appropriate. There was no difficulty during birth in any of the crossbred groups. Viability rates for males were 100% in the B1 and 97.3% in the F1xB1 crossbred groups and 92.3% in the B1 and 94.6% in the F1xB1 groups for females. The average milk yields of the F1 and B1 genotype groups were similar to those of SAR. However, there were sizeable variations in the genotype groups for milk production, indicating that selection for milk yield is highly promising. This study was conducted to evaluate the fattening performance of Hasmer (31.25% Hampshire Down (HD) + 31.25% German Black Headed Mutton (GBM) + 37.50% Merino), Hasak (31.25% HD + 31.25% GBM + 37.50% Akkaraman), Hasiv (31.25% HD + 31.25% GBM + 37.50% Awassi) and Linmer (50% Lincoln + 50% Merino) types. The research was performed between 1997 and 1999. Potential sires were selected based on their performance test results. The general linear model and Tukey's honestly significant difference test were used for statistical analyses. Year and genotype were introduced into the model as fixed factors and initial weight was introduced as a covariate along with year x genotype interaction. The year, genotype, year x genotype interaction and initial weight factors statistically affected the weight performance of ram lambs tested at 150 days. The live weights of lambs at 150 days were 40.7, 41.0, 44.0 and 41.7 kg in 1997; 42.6, 44.3, 46.1 and 41.1 kg in 1998; and 41.6, 42.8, 41.7 and 40.5 kg in 1999 for the Hasmer, Hasak, Hasiv and Linmer types, respectively. The differences between genotypes were statistically significant in all 3 years, and the differences between years were also significant in all genotypes, except for the Linmer group. The values obtained in 1998 were generally higher than those for 1997 and 1999. The superiority of genotypes over others varied year by year, but the Linmer registered the lowest value in all 3 years. The same statistical results were obtained for daily gains, the values being 258, 263, 302 and 272 g in 1997; 284, 307, 330 and 264 g in 1998; and 270, 287, 272 and 255 g in 1999 for the genotypes in the same order as above (P < 0.05 in all 3 years). The feed efficiencies were 4.38, 5.00, 5.03 and 4.22 kg in 1997 (P < 0.05); 4.28, 4.17, 4.14 and 4.06 kg in 1998 (P < 0.05); and 4.30, 4.28, 4.09 and 4.76 kg in 1999 (P < 0.05) for these genotypes, respectively. This study was conducted to investigate the pre-weaning growth of crossbreed types. Fifteen genotypes (F1 and B1) were obtained by crossbreeding in the Animal Research Institute in Konya from 1989 to 1996. These 15 genotypes were classified in 4 appropriate genotype names: Hasmer, Hasak, Hasiv and Linmer. GLM and Tukey's HSD tests were used for statistical analyses. Year, genotype, sex, birth type, and dam's age were introduced into the model as fixed factors and birth weight was introduced as a covariate along with year x genotype interaction. While the effects of year, dam's age, birth type, and sex on birth weight were significant, the effects of genotype and year x genotype interaction were insignificant. The overall birth weight means were 4.29, 4.00 and 3.99 kg (P < 0.001) for 1997, 1998 and 1999, respectively. The differences between the genotypes were not significant, and the values were 3.95-4.19 kg for all genotypes during the 3-year experimental period. The birth weights of lambs from dams aged 3 years or older were higher than those of lambs with 2-year-old dams. The birth weights of ram lambs were higher than those ewe lambs, and single born lambs had higher birth weights than did twin born ones. The lambs were weaned at the age of 75 days. All factors except for dam's age and birth type affected the weaning weight. The weights of lambs at 75 days were 17.5-19.8 kg in 1997, 17.0-20.1 kg in 1998, and 19.5-22.5 kg in 1999, and the differences between genotypes were significant in all 3 years, although the superiority of some genotypes over others varied year by year. This study was conducted to investigate the effects of some factors on litter size fertility and pregnancy period in Morkaraman sheep as well as birth weight and survival rate in Morkaraman, Dorset Down x Morkaraman (F1) crossbreed lambs. In the present study, 151 Morkaraman sheep of different ages, and 110 purebred and 46 crossbreed (Dorset Down x Morkaraman F1) lambs were used as the research material. The effect of the genotype and birth weight on pregnancy period were significant (P < 0.01). However, the effects of birth type, sex of the lamb and age of the sheep were not. The effects of birth type, genotype, sex of the lamb and age of the sheep on birth weight were significant (P < 0.01). The effects of genotype, sex of the lamb and age of the sheep on the number of lambs per gestation were not significant. The effects of birth type on the survival rate of the lambs were significant (P < 0.01); on the other hand, the effects of genotype, sex of the lamb and age of the sheep on survival rate were not.
