This article analyses the regeneration initiatives conducted in urban courtyards in Poland based on the participatory mechanisms, diversity, and activity of participants, and collaborative capacity. The aim of the study is to identify the factors that determine the level of success of participatory urban regeneration within neighbourhood spaces. The research was carried out using methods such as in-depth interviews and field observations. The results highlight the role of local communities and the necessity to directly engage them in making changes. This article presents the opinions of residents of the immediate surroundings of three Brownfield Site Urban Regeneration Projects completed in Łódź (Poland) in the years 2006-2016, i.e. Manufaktura (textile industry facilities transformed into a mall), "Lofts at Scheibler" (a former spinning plant transformed into residential buildings with accompanying services) and EC1 (adaptation of a former EC1 power plant for cultural and educational purposes), and their impact on their immediate environment. The article presents the results of questionnaire surveys conducted by the author in 2017 on 587 respondents residing within a walking distance, i.e. up to 500 m from the above-mentioned investment projects. The aim of this article is to identify the strengths and weaknesses in the spatial development of Spycimierz sołectwo (sub-unit of municipality) and to propose directions of changes in this respect. The main determinants of spatial development of this area are described, such as geographical location, socio-economic characteristics and planning documents. The methods used include inhouse studies and field research. The main instrument employed was urbanistic inventory carried out in 2020. In 2015, the National Urban Policy, The Urban Regeneration Law, and the Guidelines regarding urban regeneration in operational programmes for the years 2014-2020 were adopted in Poland. These documents marked a new direction for developing and implementing these difficult processes. Simultaneously, communes received support which was supposed to help them plan urban regeneration properly on the basis of reliable diagnoses of the initial state, considering their endogenous features and potentials, with active participation of local communities. The aim of the article is to present the Polish approach to regeneration programming. Its background is the analysis of the definitions of urban regeneration which have functioned in Polish literature since the 1990s followed by a presentation of Western European stages of the evolution of this subject. The analysis offered in the article as well as the resulting conclusions show that the Polish approach to regeneration follows the integrated model prevalent in Europe. It fits the discussions between the academics and practitioners regarding the designation of degraded areas in cities, the principles of regeneration programming, and active involvement of different stakeholders in the aforementioned processes. The article presents the results of analysis of purchase-sale transactions concluded in the years 2007-20015 within the administrative boundaries of Uniejów. The aim of this study is to identify the types of real property being the object of purchase-sale transactions, including their locations, and to highlight the general situation on the real estate market in the analysed area. The article presents the spatial distribution of projects implemented as part of the participatory budgeting (PB) in Łódź in 2013-2019 against the backdrop of the area delimited for urban regeneration. The authors analyse the projects, create their typology and evaluate them in terms of the implementation of the objectives set in the urban regeneration programme. The article hopes to contribute to the scientific discussion on the participation of the local community in the life of the city, in particular in the changes made in its space, as well as on the effectiveness of the implementation and the role of a participatory tool such as the civic budget in urban regeneration. In this article, we identify the spatial mobility of the populations of selected urban centres in Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Hungary. In total, 1,616 interviews were conducted. Additionally also interviews with the employees responsible for crisis management were conducted. Based on the analyses, five different clusters were identified, with different patterns of inhabitants in terms of their spatial mobility in the event of war. The most significant factors influencing their mobility in crisis situations are country of residence, age, number of people in the household and sex. The aim of the article was the assessment of the spatial matching of existing shelters (supply) to the distribution of residents in Suwałki (demand), considering their declared transport behaviours while evacuating during war. The analysis was conducted based on the locations of existing emergency shelters using data on population distribution (registration data with building accuracy). Spatial alignment was determined using the P-Median problem and E2SFCA. In terms of establishing vehicular or pedestrian travel time, the Manhattan metric based on the urban road network model was utilised. A model of vehicle movement speed was then constructed, while a constant speed was assumed for pedestrian movement. Additionally, survey data on the transport behaviour of inhabitants of Suwałki in the case of war were conducted in 2023. The study concluded that the population residing within the city limits should evacuate on foot, and that prior training on the evacuation process is especially necessary for those who reside in less populated areas of the city. The analyses also showed that existing emergency shelters are overly dispersed, making management difficult for emergency services. Since the current capacity of emergency shelters is not sufficient for the number and distribution of inhabitants of Suwałki, the most practical significance of this article in this respect is to indicate to the authorities the optimal number and location for emergency shelters (to improve the evacuation process). The transport behaviour of Lodz residents with a view to constructing a balanced traffic model to include both private and public transport is examined in this paper. A survey was conducted among 6,000 Łódź citizens using mixed-mode techniques: CAWI and CATI: respondents were asked to complete a travel log for the previous day and the previous Sunday. This served as a basis for further analyses, performed with PTV simulation software, following a four-step model. The main results of the study are presented, including the mobility rate of Łódź residents, the motivations and duration of journeys, and the division of transport tasks into workdays and Sundays, indicating that a higher private carload is typical for home-other and other-home trips on Sundays compared to working days. The number of home to work and work-home trips via private cars is higher for working days compared to Sundays. Furthermore, the simulated traffic load of the public transport system is much higher for working days compared to Sundays. A higher percentage of non-motorised trips and longer trip duration are found to be common for Sundays as well. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
