We aimed to determine the most efficient methodo to overcome dormancy in seeds of Bauhinia divaricata L. The seeds were submitted to 12 treatments: control - intact seeds (T1), mechanical scarification with sandpaper (T2), cutting the tegument on the opposite side of embryonic axis (T3), soaking water for 24 hours (T4), immersion in water at 50, 60 and 70°C for a for period of three minutes T5, T6 and T7, immersion in water in the temperature of 80°C of three, four and nine minutes (T8, T9, and T10) and immersion in water at temperature of 100°C of one and two minutes (T11 and T12). Effects were evaluated by germination and vigor tests. The experiment was conducted a greenhouse. It was verified there was significant difference among the treatments for all the appraised variables, and the most evident cause of dormancy is impermeability of tegument, which was overcome efficiently for blunts in the opposed area of mycropile.
