Abstract This paper concerns the use of high-resolution images from a Hasselblad H6D - 100c middle format camera in the investigation of wall paintings. The presented investigation, proved the great potential of an image-based approach combined with the used camera for such documentation. The conducted analysis shows that the obtained accuracy allows not only for the investigation of a wall paintings, but also enables a highly precise analysis of details. Such detailed analysis, provides information for a deeper understanding of the history of the investigated wall paintings. In this article, the measurement accuracy in such photogrammetric documentation was verified. The conclusions were reached through a series of analyses, including: the analysis of point detection, the analysis of gradual selection, and the analysis of the number of photos and its impact on the accuracy. Mastitis is a serious bovine diseases that can be caused by Prototheca zopfii, yeast-like algae belonging to the family Chlorellaceae. The substantial economic losses and health damage associated with bovine mastitis emphasize the need to develop effective strategies aimed at control of the infection. Unfortunately, P. zopfii is highly resistant to most common antibacterial and antifungal agents, as well as to heat treatment. We report here the first attempt to use cold atmospheric plasma to inactivate this pathogen. We studied 20 strains of P. zopfii isolated from milk samples taken from cows with clinical or subclinical mastitis. The studies confirmed the high level of resistance of P. zopfii to typical antifungal agents, such as voriconazole, fluconazole, amphotericin B, caspofungin, anidulafungin, and micafungin. In contrast, each of the strains revealed high susceptibility to cold atmospheric plasma, >2-fold higher compared with a reference strain of Candida albicans. Anisotropic diffusion in the excised rat spinal cord saturated with 0.9% saline was investigated using MR microimaging with b-values up to 8000 s/mm2 for different diffusion times. Non-exponential transversal diffusion decay found in white matter (WM) and gray matter (GM) was fitted with 2 components (the “fast” and the “slow”). Significantly smaller non-exponential dependence was found for the longitudinal diffusion in the WM. Obtained results corresponding to restricted diffusion in the range from ∼2 to ∼7 μm were correlated with axon diameter distribution in the WM obtained from transmission electron micrographs. It was concluded that observed diffusion anisotropy in the spinal cord might be entirely explained by presence of the slow transversal component, arising from the restricted diffusion. The strict analytical description of the diffusion decay in nervous tissue requires taking into account continuous distribution of the space-scale of the restricting barriers. The simplified two-component analysis may be applicable for visualization of the nervous tissue in clinical practice. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

The article focuses on a study related to hibernating myocardium (HM) that expresses a gene programme of cell survival. In 7 patients with HM awaiting bypass surgery in whom cardiovascular MR had confirmed contractile dysfunction with maintained viability, biopsies were obtained from HM and remote normally contracting myocardium. In the swine model, five chronically instrumented pigs were submitted to 6 episodes of 90 mm low flow ischema followed by 12 h reperfusion in the territory of the left anterior descending coronary artery. After the sixth episode, hallmarks of HM were found in the swine heart similar to those in patients, such as a sustained contractile dysfunction and accumulation of glycogen deposits.

The article focuses on a study related to alteration of the β adrenergic signaling axis in hibernating myocardium (HM). Left Ventricle dysfunction in patients with CAD and hibernating myocardium may improve after revascularisation. The pashophysiology of dysfunction is incompletely understood. Pre-synaptic NA re-uptake and total β AR density in HM and remote are similar but β1 and β 2 AR are reciprocal. The intracellular signaling axis of β AR stimulation is impaired in HM. This may explain the decreased contractility of HM with a maintained response to dobutamine and suggests that the molecular adaptation in HM is different from global heart failure.
