This study examines current advances in the development of engineered photo reactor systems, photo catalysts, and process modeling and optimizations for photo oxidation procedures in water treatment. The impact of critical photo reactor operation parameters on photo-process performance with regard to disinfection and mineralization is investigated. For the first time, we show how to use a multi-variable optimization method to find the best operating parameters for a given process to improve photo oxidation efficiency. This study offers an overview of the many approaches used for treating oily effluents. The work focuses on photo catalytic degradation method and reflects published results in order to promote the approach as a viable and long-term process unit. At advanced oxidation processes, the possibility of the method in replacing a few identified degradation and separation techniques has also been indicated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
