The aim of our study was to describe the anatomo- clinical and therapeutic aspects of renal ectopy in our practice. We conducted an observational study over a period of 42 months. Fourteen patients files followed-up for renal ectopy were enrolled in the study. Various parameters including: type of renal ectopy, age, sex, circumstances of discovery, location of the ectopic kidney, associated malformations and treatments were assessed. The Ectopy was simple in all the patients. The sex ratio was 0.28. Left renal ectopy was the most frequent. The most common symptom was abdominal pain (n=12). The pelvic location was found in 10 patients, iliac in 3 and 1 patient had a horseshoe kidney in the midline. 10 patients had a normal physical examination while 4 had a palpable pelvic mass. Most patients had complications requiring a surgical treatment including nephrolithotomy and nephrostomy in 4, nephrostomy in 3, pyelolithotomy in 1 and nephrectomy in 1. Early detection and regular monitoring could prevent complications requiring a radical surgical treatment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
