Several opinion studies warn that, among the Chilean public, there is a growing belief that the news media are subservient to outside powers. Therefore, for those people, the press would not correctly represent reality or the people's interests. However, recent studies show that editorial homogeneity is not as frequent as some may believe and that journalists do not feel pressured in their work. To explain this gap between citizens' distrust of media and the reality of their editorial production, we proposed a model based on the concepts of framing, cultural industry, and ideological apparatus. We conclude that there is a media distrust frame in popular culture, which is challenging to deactivate because, like any frame, it's embedded in our brains. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
