This study investigates metaverse literacy among library professionals and its implications for library services. The research aims to determine the extent of technological obstacles library professionals face in acquiring metaverse literacy, assess skill gaps in this domain, identify resistance to change and gauge the perceived benefits of developing metaverse literacy. A structured questionnaire was administered to 80 library professionals from various academic institutions and libraries across India. The findings reveal that while library professionals are relatively comfortable with virtual environments, skill gaps exist in specific metaverse literacy areas. The study identifies primary reasons for hesitancy in adopting metaverse literacy, such as concerns about job security and insufficient training opportunities. It also highlights the perceived benefits, including enhanced user experiences, expanded service offerings, and fostering innovative approaches to information dissemination. The research underscores the need for collaborative efforts, ongoing professional development, user-centric approaches, and privacy considerations to embrace metaverse literacy fully. By addressing these challenges and adopting recommended strategies, libraries can position themselves as navigators in the metaverse, enriching user experiences and expanding their impact on information dissemination and knowledge creation. AbstractThe digital revolution has reshaped academic libraries, requiring new skills from library professionals. This study explores how library professionals at Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are adapting to this change through their metaliteracy skills. By surveying 144 library professionals across IITs, we uncovered a complex process of digital adaptation and professional growth. Our findings reveal that most professionals are confidently entering the digital era, with three-quarters showing proficiency in basic digital tools. However, beneath this digital fluency lies a more intricate picture. While many excel in traditional tasks like database management and information retrieval − 65% reported high proficiency – there is notable reluctance when engaging with emerging technologies and cybersecurity challenges. Surprisingly, gender significantly influenced how professionals approached information evaluation and synthesis. Experience, though important for many metaliteracy skills, seemed less relevant in addressing modern concerns such as privacy protection and detecting misinformation. One of the most revealing findings is the gap between competence and teaching ability: although many professionals possess strong technical skills, only 31.5% feel confident in teaching these skills to others. This highlights the urgent need for targeted professional development that considers both gender dynamics and varying experience levels. By shedding light on these patterns, our study offers a pathway to reinforce the digital infrastructure of India’s leading technical institutions, ensuring library professionals can guide future researchers through an increasingly complex information landscape. This study investigates the impact of 24/7 library operations on the health and work-life balance of Library and Information Science (LIS) professionals in India. Using a mixed-method approach with 52 respondents, reveals significant physical and mental health issues, sleep disruptions, and dietary challenges. Purpose: The primary purpose of this study was to check the online information retrieval self-efficacy among library professionals in predicting the satisfaction of patrons within universities' libraries. Design/methodology/approach: The study was grounded on Bandura four sources of self-efficacy, encompassing mastery experience, vicarious experience, social persuasion and physiological states. To accomplish this, a meticulously designed questionnaire was administered to collect data from library professionals employed in universities libraries recognized by the Higher Education Commission in Punjab and capital city of Pakistan (Islamabad). Following by the validation of assumptions, researchers conducted a multiple linear regression test to predict the outcomes of the dependent variable by using the independents variables. Additionally, a comparative evaluation was carried out among all the independent variables to determine their respective contributions to satisfaction of library patrons. Findings: The results emphasized the distinct and substantial significance of three variables, physiological states, social feedback and mastery experience in predicting the satisfaction of library patrons. Nevertheless, vicarious experience did not demonstrate a significant influence on the satisfaction of library patrons. Furthermore, influence of physiological states on the improvement of library patrons' satisfaction was relatively higher compared to other three self-efficacy sources. In conclusion, research established the essential role of online information retrieval self-efficacy in enhancing the satisfaction of library patrons. Practical implications: The findings of the study can form a solid basis for devising academic programs to train the library professionals for effective utilization of various information systems and databases. These programs play an important role in improving the self-efficacy of library professionals, ultimately refining their skills in online information retrieval. Originality/value: In essence, this study provides insights into the factors which are pivotal in effective information searching process, ultimately leading to increase the satisfaction level of library patrons which has not been previously researched in Pakistan as well as the world context. Purpose: This study aims to investigate the potential impact and passenger perceptions of integrating multimedia books within airline services, aiming to elucidate the evolving landscape of in-flight entertainment and reading experiences. Design/methodology/approach: A quantitative research methodology was used, using a structured questionnaire distributed to presenters at the International Federation of Library Associations. Findings: Analysis revealed varying passenger interest in multimedia books, with approximately 57.7% displaying engagement, while 40.4% demonstrated limited interest or none. However, a notable majority (60.6%) preferred multimedia books over traditional print books during flights. Furthermore, 90.4% perceived a positive impact of multimedia books on flight reading experiences, leading to increased satisfaction (81.7%) and a high likelihood of recommending airlines offering such content (91.3%). Research limitations/implications: The study's limitations include a specific focus on International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) World Library and Information Congress (WLIC) presenters, potentially limiting broader generalisations. Further research might explore the preferences of a wider demographic range and incorporate qualitative aspects to deepen understanding. Airlines could leverage multimedia books to enhance passenger satisfaction, attract diverse audiences and foster cultural inclusivity within in-flight entertainment. With the advent of new technological transformations in libraries and information centres, library professionals have experienced major challenges with changes in the generation, creation, dissemination, and preservation of knowledge in libraries. The objectives of the present study are to find out the hindrances to implementing ICT, and incorporation in libraries has a prominent place in fulfilling the needs of users, but one must not ignore the fact that ICT is not only the factor responsible for achieving the goals of libraries; it is also the library professional's positive attitude that endorses the implementation of the same. There are many factors that can help library professionals develop a positive attitude, including prior knowledge, proper training, and continuing education like in-service courses, workshops, and seminars. If the staff of the library shows a positive attitude towards the adoption of ICT in their organisation, it will raise their self-confidence, thereby increasing productivity, while also raising their morale and motivation among colleagues. On the other hand, a negative attitude will raise high levels of anxiety, lower levels of self-efficacy, technophobia, cyberphobia, and fear of losing their jobs. The negative attitudes of library professionals are the main hindrance to the implementation of ICT in libraries. The present study's findings can advance our understanding of ICT adoption in libraries and provide practical recommendations for maximizing the use of ICT resources in library services. The purpose of this study was to examine the "Adoption of mobile reference services as predictors of digital library service delivery. To achieve this, one objective and one hypothesis was formulated to guide the study. Literature was reviewed based on the variables under study. The survey research design was adopted for the study. All 253 library professionals and paraprofessionals in federal universities south-south, Nigeria formed the population of the study. The instrument used for data collection was the questionnaire. 205 questionnaires were correctly filled and returned, giving a return rate of 81%. Data was coded using statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) software and analyzed using frequencies, percentages and simple linear regression analysis. The findings revealed that mobile reference services significantly predicts digital library service delivery. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended among others that libraries should ensure that reference services are extended beyond library closing hours using mobile reference services such as emails, SMS and phone calls. It was also recommended that Information communication technology (ICT) infrastructure should be put in place in the University libraries. This study investigated relationship issues in research visibility of Library and Information Science professionals in Imo State. It examined the indices for measuring research visibility of library and information science professionals; and established the relationships between use of research databases, academic networking sites, institutional repository, social media and research visibility of library and information science professionals. The study adopted correlational research design. The population of the study was 228 Library and Information Science professionals in Imo State which was also used as the sample. However, 152 copies of submitted instrument were used for the study. The instrument for data collection was an online Google form rated using four-point scale which was distributed through NLA Imo State Chapter WhatsApp group and individually. Data collected were analysed using mean and standard deviation for research questions while the hypotheses was tested using Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC). The findings of the study revealed that; there are factors considered in research visibility of library and information science professionals; there is a low extent of utilization of most of the indices studied for research visibility. Result of the hypotheses showed that there is a significant relationship between use of research databases, academic networking sites, institutional repository, social media and research visibility of library and information science professionals. The major objective of the current study was to find out the impact of motivational factors on the job outcomes of librarians working in HEC-recognized university libraries in Pakistan. A survey research method followed by predictive correlational design was applied to test the constructed hypotheses in this study. The population of the study was library professionals working in the university libraries of Lahore, Pakistan. There were 13 public sector universities and 21 private sector universities. The census sampling technique was used to collect data from the respondents of the 34 universities. Data were collected with the help of a questionnaire. Out of 225 respondents, 189 completed questionnaires were received. Hence, the response rate was 84%. The gathered data were analyzed through SPSS software. Descriptive and inferential statistical tests were applied to find out the impact of motivational and behavioral factors on the job outcomes of information professionals. The findings of the study showed that different types of motivation influenced information professionals to carry out innovative and value-added services in the workplace. Rewards, a sense of honor, an amicable work environment, and autonomy were the key categories of motivation that encouraged information professionals to undertake efficient job performance. Recommendations provided through a framework based on the findings of the study will prove to be a benchmark for policymakers, human resource managers, and heads of institutions in order to formulate such techniques that might motivate information professionals for the implementation of user-centric services. Occupational stress is a physical and psychological condition that can have negative effects. Librarians undergo significant levels of occupational stress. The study assessed levels of occupational stress and different coping strategies in response to it. 37.7 % of library and information science professionals in Jammu and Kashmir have low occupational stress, 32.6 % moderate, and 29.7 % a high level of occupational stress. It was confirmed that these professionals utilize both problem-focused and emotion-focused coping strategies to manage stress. However, the prevalence of emotion-focused coping is more noticeable among them. Role overload, low status, interpersonal problems, lack of respect, and other factors were identified as elements causing occupational stress. This study aimed to analyze the effects of soft skills on the work productivity of academic library professionals in Pakistan. The study employed quantitative survey method. The data was collected through a self-compiled online questionnaire from academic library professionals, yielding a response rate was 83%. Findings of this study reveal that library professionals' level of different soft skills, interpersonal, emotional intelligence, leadership, motivation, and communication is high, which indicates that they are proficient in soft skills. Results of correlation test used to examine the relationship between the variables, soft skills, and work productivity of library professionals disclose a significant relationship between variables across the study. Moreover, soft skills have profound effects on the work productivity of library professionals, and no difference is found in library professionals' perceptions based on their demographic characteristics. Soft skills help librarians to manage and perform different jobs effectively. Based on the outcomes of the study, it is suggested that LIS schools, professional associations, and other organizations offering professional development programs should endeavor to develop soft skills among LIS students and professionals by incorporating necessary contents in LIS curricula and offering training sessions. This paper discusses job satisfaction among library professionals in engineering colleges in South Tamil Nadu. Job satisfaction is a personal feeling which could cause by a variety of factors. This study investigated the challenges faced by Library professionals regarding adoption and uses of Koha in Dr. Mahmud Husain library. This paper aims to describe current status of library software being used in DMHL (University of Karachi) and highlights the issues and challenges that are being faced by professionals regarding implementation of Koha. Purpose: We want to determine the impact of participation in a professional event on the competences of library professionals in the field of reading literacy. We are interested to find whether professionals are more motivated to work after attending a professional event, feel more confident in working in the field of reading literacy, more connected to others and see more sense in their work, and whether participation in the event affects their work activities after the event itself. Methodology: We used a case study with a quantitative survey method to collect data. First, we analysed selected scientific and professional literature to define the concepts of motivation, self-confidence, belonging and meaning, and responsibility of an individual's professional development. We linked our case study to the predefined theoretical starting points. The design of the questionnaire structure was linked to the impact assessment. Results: Understanding the concepts of motivation, self-confidence, belonging and meaning is crucial in strengthening the competences of professional staff. In the first part we compare the results over a three-year period, and in the second part we use the results to determine how participation in a professional event affects the individual. Comparative results of all three events show that obtaining the necessary information positively affects self-confidence at work. The research has shown that participation in a professional event has a positive effect on motivation, belonging, meaningful work and understanding of professional and personal role. Research limitations are linked to the size of the study, as it is based on one case study, but includes a large enough sample that can indicate the starting point for a more extensive study to determine the impact of professional events on motivation, confidence, belonging and acceptance meaningful in the professional field. Originality/value: Studies of the impact of participation in professional trainings on the competences of professionals are rare, so our research is an additional incentive to argue for regular professional training and monitor the development of individual key elements (i.e. motivation, confidence, meaning, belonging) of professional competencies. The main aim of the study is to review the literature related to the use of emerging technologies by university libraries. The primary objective of the study was to examine the core literature related to emerging technologies used in the university libraries and to find out the changing role of the university librarians in these technologically equipped modern libraries. The current study is an attempt to explore the perception of the library professionals about research data management (RDM). It reports the present scenario of research data management in the libraries and explores the views of professionals on aspects of RDM like stakeholders, awareness on NDSAP, formulation of an institutional research data management policy, requirement of data management plan by research funding agencies, necessary areas of training for library professionals to provide research data management, motivations for library professionals and potential challenges for research data management. Purpose: This study explores the perceptions of Library professionals towards the technological trends used in the Public Sector Universities of Pakistan. Methodology/Approach: The quantitative research method was adopted while using a questionnaire as a data collection tool. A total of 106 questionnaires were distributed among the Head librarians working in the public Sector Universities of Pakistan. All questionnaires were sent through emails except a few which has been sent through post. Some 73 surveys were received back, and all were found usable. The overall response rate of the study was 68.4% percent; a bit low due to the COVID-19 epidemic 2020. Findings/Data Analysis: The collected quantitative data was entered in SPSS after coding. The analysis was done, and the inferences were drawn for recommendations. The major findings were disclosed. Conclusions: Results concluded that respondents' very high and high skills were; Word Processing, Spreadsheet, Electronic presentation skill, E-communication (E-mail, SMS, GSM etc.), Social Networking, Database (HEC databases, Library databases etc.), and Downloading Software from the Web and Installing Software skills. Similarly, males were more skilled than females. Furthermore, it was very encouraging that a majority of the study participants working in the Public Sector Universities of Pakistan had been practicing advanced technology since last 15 years. The results from this study can be used by authorities to enhance the prevailing technological situations in libraries. Moreover, the skills of the library professionals can also be improved for better and effective use of the latest technologies in Universities libraries in order to uplift the standards and quality of higher education in the country. Webinars are proving a boon for all academic fraternity in the present scenario of COVID-19 pandemic when almost all learning and education centers are in state of lockdown not only in India but in the world. The present study explores the perceptions of library professionals of Haryana which is one of northern state of India. The data has collected from the professionals via Google questionnaire. Results indicates that Whats App was the most popular app for promoting webinars among library professionals, Zoom platform was widely preferred, mobile devices were highly used, free webinars were attended by majority of professionals, the main intention to attend webinars was to gain knowledge on burning topics, more than eighty percent were satisfied with webinars and found them as per their expectations, and 35.9 percent participants were disagreed or strongly disagreed on the statement 'Webinars can replace the class room teaching'. The objective of this study is to examine those factors which are related to job satisfaction among the library professionals working in aided and government first grade colleges of Belagaum District. Technostress is the feeling of anxiety or mental pressure caused by working with multiple and rapidly changing computer systems, and mediating between these systems and the demands of the organisation, users, and personal life. This study investigated the nature and extent of technostress, the factors causing technostress, and the effect of it on professional and social lives among the library professionals in India. The study further explored the coping strategies to deal with technostress and gives a proposal for using the positive technology approach for technostress prevention and management. The study was carried through an online survey, with a structured questionnaire designed on a Google Forms. A total of 500 respondents were selected for the study over four designated domains, viz. library assistants, assistant librarians, deputy librarians, and librarians or university librarians. Ten preferred causes and coping strategies, and eight identified physiological and psychological symptoms they are subjected to for this study. This study aimed at measuring the job satisfaction of library professionals and paraprofessionals working in the university libraries of twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad. This study's targeted population was 232 library professionals, and paraprofessionals working in 17 Higher Education Commission (HEC) recognized university libraries. A questionnaire was designed with the help of existing literature and theories. Face validity and reliability was ensured before data collection. A total of 146 respondents willingly responded to the questionnaire, and therefore the response rate was 63%. Descriptive and inferential statistics were applied through SPSS for data analysis. According to the results, professionals were more satisfied than paraprofessionals in promotion, technology innovation, and job autonomy. Both groups wanted improvement in fringe benefits. Multiple Regression analysis showed that personal and environmental factors significantly contributed to professional and paraprofessional staff's job satisfaction. Environmental predictors are influential contributors to overall job satisfaction for both groups. This study develops a better understanding of the subject. It supports the authorities to review the policies of salary, promotion, continuing education, technology innovation, job autonomy and fringe benefits to enhance the productivity of the library professionals and paraprofessionals in their organizations. Job satisfaction of employees, in general, is considered to be significant when an organization wants to achieve user's satisfaction. Academic libraries are non-profit oriented service production systems. The digital technology orientation in academic libraries has thrown more challenges to the library professionals rather than to the users who at times outwit the library professionals. The social pressure from the users and online document pressure has put the library professionals in stress. The extent of job satisfaction may differ individually according to age, educational qualification, experience, and marital status. The aim of the study is to investigate the conceptions of academic library leaders' about library leadership, library management, the best attributes for academic library leaders and the ways to develop leadership skills. A qualitative approach was used and data were collected through in-depth interviews from 15 experienced academic library leaders in Pakistan. Phenomenology was used to explore the common conceptions of the participants about library leadership, library management, smart leaders' attributes and significant ways to develop leadership. Academic library leaders perceived that a library leader is all about being visionary and innovative, being bold, and being a knowledge worker. Majority of the participants differentiated between library leader and library manager however, others had similar conceptions about both roles. The best attributes of academic library leaders conceived by professionals are having a humanistic and charismatic personality, being a team leader, and having building relationship skills or social outreach. Humanist aspect of a leader prevails among participants' voices and this might be an addition to the existing literature. Continuous professional development, mentorship, and being in a competitive environment are the best ways for library leadership skills development. In a digital era, library professionals are not only responsible for efficient transaction services but also act as custodian of materials in all forms. With the constraints of funding, more and more librarians are relying on different technological advances such as Electronic Security Systems (ESSs) to provide security to library materials, buildings, and premises. The present paper uses survey methodology to assess the perception of library professionals especially librarians of select libraries of Northern India on the different ESSs such as Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), Closed-circuit television (CCTV), Biometric and Burglar system, and the related applications, benefits, and problems. The work highlighted that most of the libraries are relying on technology such as RFID or Electro-Magnetic (EM) Tags and Surveillance System than Biometric and Burglar for the security of library materials. The paper deals with the job satisfaction of the library and information professionals working in government and the private sector libraries in the Fiji. The study was carried out in relation to what is the happiness level of working with their co-workers and how much they are satisfied with their wages and job securities. Library professionals have experienced ignoble and asymmetrical salary payments, lacks of proper housing, inadequate facilities in libraries, low social status given to them and limited opportunities for professional development in Fiji. The main purpose of this study is to find out the major factors affecting career choices, level of job satisfaction, and perceptions of the general image of library professionals in Fiji. This article explores, how much satisfaction of these library professionals, derive from their chosen career and examine the degree of dissatisfaction or areas of discontent among then. Results show that the female professionals are more satisfied from their job as compared to males. Library professionals who are much experienced are possess a proportionately high level of job satisfaction as compared to other age groups. Whereas, those professionals are between ages of 28-35, having a comparatively ignoble level of job satisfaction, compared to another age group of professionals. This study examined the influence of gender on job satisfaction among university library professionals in Sri Lanka. Survey design was adopted for the study. The general objective of the study was to evaluate the effect of gender differences on the level of job satisfaction among the professional staff of the university libraries in Sri Lanka. Five parameters were considered. They were work, co-workers, compensation, promotion and supervision. The population of the study consisted of 125 library professionals of 15 universities under the University Grants Commission in Sri Lanka. All members of the population were given the opportunity to participate in the study. A semi-structured questionnaire was used as the main data collection instrument. The response rate was 64%. Cronbach's alpha values of all variables are above 0.6 (work: 0.764, co-workers: 0.864, compensation: 0.661, promotion: 0.614 and supervision: 0.963). The instrument used to measure each variable in the current study is reliable and all the items are positively correlated to one another. The mean of job satisfaction of all aspects: work; co-workers; compensation; promotion and supervision is higher in Females (0.9200, 0.8021, 0.6521, 0.6667, 0.7243) than males (0.7277, 0.6406, 0.5250, 0.3854, -0.0052). The results indicated that there is a significant difference of job satisfaction between male and female university library professionals only in the "supervision" parameter. The overall job satisfaction of both male and female (3.77) university library professionals is equal. However, equal treatment to both genders will help to achieve higher satisfaction levels. The study analyse the multiple intelligence skills of LIS professionals in working government and private universities in Tamil Nadu. Data were collected through questionnaire method. Totally 441 questionnaire were collected from 114 in traditional, 291 in Professional and 36 in Multi-discipline subjects. The study reveals that the private universities LIS professionals are more compare than government universities. The respondents from Government Universities are better skilled than their counterparts from private universities in all the 17 linguistic intelligence skills. Both government and private ranked first in the statement better stock verification. It is also clearly understand the respondents of Government universities are better skilled than their counterparts at private universities in respect of their bodily-kinaesthetic intelligence. The study found that in the statement "I enjoy working with other LIS professionals" ranked with first both government and private universities in the Interpersonal Intelligence skills. The study focused library professionals' knowledge and utilization of Integrated Library Management Software's (ILMS) in East and West Godavari Districts Engineering College Libraries (affiliated to JNTUK, Kakinada). Today's most of the engineering college libraries are being used ILMS packages. Majority of engineering college libraries 87% are using Campus Management Software's, only few colleges 13% are using ILMS (exclusively for library purpose). The study revealed that about 88% of libraries are using 3 ILMS packages i.e, ECAP, Ez-School and Bees Campus, only 12% of colleges are using remaining popular ILMS packages i.e, Libsys, SOUL, KOHA and Newgenlib. Majority of library professionals 75% are being preferred Commercial Software packages than open source and in-house developed software's. The study also highlighted that circulation, OPAC and cataloguing modules are being used properly. Most of the library professionals 75% are being used barcode technology in circulation and stock verification tasks, none of the library used RFID technology. The study found that library professionals have moderate knowledge on software evaluation process and about 52% of library professionals are nil knowledge on installation process of ILMS packages. The purpose of this paper is to ascertain the awareness and use of cloud computing technologies among the library professionals in the Kerala University Library system, India. A survey was conducted using questionnaire among the 102 library professionals employed in the central and departmental libraries of the University of Kerala. The study revealed that 42.16% of the library professionals did not have much idea about cloud computing technology. Analysis showed that Facebook and Google Apps like Gmail, Google Doc etc are the cloud computing technologies used by majority of the respondents. It is also worth to note that the library professionals in Kerala University Library are using cloud computing technologies without being aware of doing so. Library professionals' awareness of cloud service models is relatively very low. Web OPAC and Journal Discovery Service are the areas known to the respondents in applying cloud computing technologies in libraries. Out of 102 respondents, 14.71% of the library professionals in the University of Kerala have average skill in using these technologies. Based on the primary data collected from the library and information science professionals working in the higher education sector of the Jammu and Kashmir, the study aims to assess, as how far the application of information and communication technology apart from improving the library services and activities, has been instrumental in improving the job satisfaction among the library and information professionals. In all 264 responses were generated from the respondents, a whopping, 68.9 per cent respondents are of the view that library and information science professionals contribute significantly into the teaching and research activities of their institution. 61 per cent respondents have shown satisfaction with the information technology infrastructure in their respective libraries, while as, 60.2 per cent respondents are of the view that the application of information technology in libraries contribute to the job satisfaction of library professionals. The present study aims to explore the use of Web 2.0 tools and technologies among the library professionals in academic libraries in India. Purpose The key purpose of this study is to explore digital information literacy (DIL) possessed by South Valley University (SVU) library and information professionals. It also tries to identify the various types of DIL and find constraints affecting the related skills and competencies of those professionals.Design/methodology/approach A quantitative research methodology was adopted in the form of a survey, which was undertaken from February to March 2016. As stated by Kerlinger (1986), the survey research is a useful instrument for educational fact-finding, and a means by which much information can be acquired from the study’s population. The survey instrument was a self-administrated questionnaire, which was adopted for data collection. A pilot questionnaire was first sent to a small random sample of the respondents, with feedback being used to fine-tune the final questionnaire. The targeted population of this study included library and information professionals (n = 127) belonging to SVU libraries that spread over three provinces/campuses: the Qena campus (number of libraries = 22), the Luxor campus (n = 3) and the Hurghada campus (n = 2). The library and information professionals are described to be librarians, library assistants and library directors. Of 127 questionnaires, 101 (79.5%) responses were received. To collect data, the study used a questionnaire, which has six sections reflecting the research objectives of the study.Findings The findings showed that over two-thirds of SVU library and information professionals are males, and almost one-third are females. Majority respondents are aged between 26 and 40 years, and most possessed bachelor’s degrees, of which nearly two-thirds held library science degrees. Regarding the respondents’ professional profile, the study also showed that majority were librarians, followed by library assistants and library managers, and nearly half had 10 years of experience, followed by those who have work experience of 6-7 years. This study showed that there is a significant relationship between some of the respondents’ demographic characteristics (age and education) and their DIL. The respondents’ gender had no effect on their DIL. The study also showed that there is a significant relationship between all the respondents’ professional characteristics, particularly their discipline, followed by job title, work experience and DIL. Regarding the level of respondents’ knowledge of the types of computers, many showed that their knowledge of using mobile devices, followed by PCs, workstations, portable media players/digital audio player and personal digital assistant was, at the least, high. The respondents’ knowledge of other types ranged between moderate to non-proficient. A large number of the respondents showed that their proficiency in using output devices, followed by input devices, processing devices, storage devices and communication devices was also, at the least, high. While the largest number of the respondents showed that their proficiency in using application software was, at least, high, the largest number of them showed that their proficiency in using system software was moderate. Regarding the respondents’ knowledge-based competencies, as well as skills-based competencies, especially when these competencies related to the integration of ICTs into the library work, this study showed that such kind of competencies possessed by SVU library and information professionals ranged between competent and somewhat competent. Regarding the challenges affecting the respondents’ acquiring skills and related competencies, the study revealed that the lack of funds, training, physical facilities, connection to the internet, subscribing to e-databases, lack of time as well as challenges related to SVU library system regulations, were significant to them. Other challenges such as the lack of incorporating and exploiting the new technologies and products into library integrated systems educators’ services, as well as challenges related to psychological barriers, lack of current curricula in the area of ICTs and a shortage of experienced LIS counselors, were also significant to them. This study reached conclusions that the SVU library and information professionals should be qualified and get adapted to ICTs and related competencies. They need to be provided with sufficient training to update their knowledge regarding the use and integration of technology in their library work.Research limitations/implications This study investigates DIL among library and information professionals at SVU, an Egyptian university. Any findings and conclusions resulted from this study are limited in scope to only the library professionals of this university. Such a topic has limited previous research. The size and homogeneity of the sample limit the generalizability of this study.Practical/implications The study aims to investigate DIL acquired by SVU library and information professionals. The potential results of this study would be useful for library schools, library associations and other pertinent authorities for the planning of training programs and courses. The findings may also be helpful for library educators to develop curricula that meet the needs of library and information professionals.Originality/value This study is one of the few studies conducted on this topic in Egypt. The literature on the topic of this research revealed that extensive research has been undertaken on DIL in higher education in developed countries, but very limited research has been conducted on this topic in Egypt and similar developing countries, particularly among academic library and information professionals. The paper centered on issues and challenges associated with promoting of indigenous language by library and information science professionals. The desk research approach involving extensive review of literatures on indigenous language was adopted. The challenges to promoting of indigenous language include: multiplicity of indigenous language, non-proficiency in indigenous languages, non-documentation of indigenous language and the preference for English language. The way forward for sustainable promotion of indigenous languages highlighted in the paper are: grass root promotion of indigenous language, establishment of centre for Advancement of Indigenous Language in Nigeria. (AILV), promotion of books written in indigenous language, translation of literary works to audio content in indigenous language, inclusion of indigenous language as a compulsory course in library schools in Nigeria. The content of Library and Information Science (LIS) curriculum has drastically evolved in the recent decades. With the penetration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), technological components have becomes the main focus of the discipline. The present paper analyses the ICT contents of postgraduate degree courses in select universities across India. It also analyses the expectation of the professionals with regard to course content and relevancy of the curriculum in the contemporary times. The use of social network sites among library professionals in university libraries in Ogun State, Southwest Nigeria is investigated. The study population consisted of seventy-eight librarians in four universities in the state. Questionnaires (which was the instrument for data collection) were administered to the entire population, out of which 55 (representing 70.5 % response rate) were filled, returned and analysed for the study. The study revealed that library professionals do make use of SNS. The most frequently visited SNS was Linkedln (58.2 %). The respondents also indicated that they visited SNS for the purpose of connecting and collaborating with friends and colleagues, carrying out current awareness and reference services to library users, etc. Majority of the respondents (94.5 %) in the study further revealed that the greatest challenge to the use of social network sites was lack of social media skills. The first hypothesis tested in the study indicated that there was moderate positive significant relationship between device used for internet access and use of social network sites (r=.408**, N= 55, p<.002.). The second hypothesis revealed that there was no significant relationship between gender and use of SNS (r = 0 .157, N=55, p >.05). Purpose This paper aims to attempt to study the adoption of social media technologies in the process of recruitment and selection process of library professionals and faculty members in India.Design/methodology/approach Extended Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) model was used for the study. Two additional constructs, namely, impact of the position of recruiters and level of education were added for the study. Data were collected from 230 recruiters for the study.Findings Results of the study highlighted that the hypotheses of UTAUT model were supported. This paper intends to explore the level of ICT competencies, and the training needs for updating these competencies among library professionals in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. It also looks at the various approaches utilized by these professionals for acquiring ICT skills and problems faced by them in this regard. Descriptive survey research method has been used for conducting this study. The population for this study comprised of 105 library professionals working in the 14 public sector universities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. The study revealed that the status of ICT competencies among library professionals in the region is unsatisfactory. Self-study is their main avenue of acquiring ICT skills and insufficient staff in the libraries is their main problem. Further training in establishing & maintaining a digital library software and using institutional repository software is their foremost training need for updating their ICT competencies. The results can be utilized by library administrators to organize regular ICT training programs to train library staff in modern ICT resources as per their needs and to eradicate any hurdle in updating staff ICT competencies. This study provides valuable insight into the level of the ICT competencies of library professionals in KPK, and provides a framework for the development of ICT competencies of library professionals in KPK and elsewhere.
