This article focuses on a case study related to contact allergy caused by bamboo shoots. A 44-year-old housewife prepared dinner in April 1985. About 2 or 3 days later, she noticed lesions on her face and back of the fingers. She used bamboo shoots again for preparing a meal in May 1985 and developed an extensive pruritic rash lasting 3 days. It appeared on her hands and spread over the face, right side of the neck and both forearms. She recovered with oral antihistamines and steriods. She was patch tested in June 1985 with scrapings from the heads and tails of leaves.

The article describes the imported cases of Dermatobia hominis in Japan as shown by a traveler returning from Costa Rica. Myiasis is an infection by a fly maggot in the organs and living or necrotic tissue of vertebrae. Infestation occurred mainly in uncovered parts of the body such as the head, arms and legs. The recommended treatment of the infestation involves using oil which blocks respiration or simple removal of the larva surgically, followed by antibiotic administration to avoid a secondary baterial infection.
