Abstract The rapid development of information technology has partially been reversed, and may become a tool for manipulation, which is incompatible with librarians' social mission. Making information available, connecting databases, and making them accessible result in people becoming more and more exposed. Customisation and effectively filtered information sources create filter bubbles. Although new systems of collaboration would be suitable for sharing reliable knowledge, they often lead to the spread of fake news. Despite worrying trends, we seek an encouraging future. Therefore, in this paper we analyse the relationship between information technology, market economy, and the librarian profession from the perspective of Hungarian LIS education, and emphasise the importance of active and creative information provision based on interdisciplinarity. Based on our experiences we believe that current and future readers can be reached through intriguing collages of credible information. The use of collages can compensate for the effects of filter bubbles, and librarians may become the masters of creating digital information collages. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a defining technology of the 21st century, creating new opportunities for academic libraries. The goal of this paper is to provide a much-needed analysis, interpreted in an international context, on what the leaders of academic libraries in East-Central Europe, and specifically in Hungary, think about AI and its implementation in a library setting. The survey shows that according to library directors AI is more of an opportunity for academic libraries than a threat, and it could provide support in all areas of library operation, including digitising, information service, and education. Findings indicate that a quarter of the Hungarian academic libraries surveyed use AI-supported solutions, mostly in the areas of information retrieval and data processing. Using Rogers (The diffusion of innovations. 5th ed. The Free Press, 2003) diffusion of innovation model, it may be projected that an explosive growth is to be expected in the use of AI in libraries. Virtual Reality (VR) and 3D environments are increasingly widespread technologies. Although VR is usually associated with an engaging gaming experience, its current use goes far beyond entertainment and the market of electronic games. Different VR spaces are used in industrial settings, manufacturing, and even education. There is a new interdisciplinary field which was created related to 3D VR content: cognitive infocommunications (CogInfoCom). Research shows that with the help of 3D VR environments work processes can be completed (up to 30-50%) faster, and the effectiveness of learning and recalling information can be significantly increased as well. The free 3D spaces of the 3D VR browser MaxWhere, developed by the researchers of Széchenyi István University (Győr, Hungary), are available to everyone. With this paper, the authors intend to draw attention to the MaxWhere 3D VR space of the University Library and Archives of Széchenyi István University, which is the first library space in MaxWhere. At the Library and Information Science (LIS) Master's Program of Eötvös Loránd University (Budapest, Hungary), the biggest librarian training institution of Hungary, students could test the 3D VR browser in practice as part of the course Information Visualization. In the spring semester of the academic year 2020-21, and in the fall semester of 2021-22, the students' opinion on MaxWhere were assessed by an anonymous survey, the results of which are included in the paper. During this research, the catalogues of more than 200 libraries and museums of Hungary and its neighboring countries were examined. The authors calculated the amount and the size of the metadata and of the full content records in the databases of their collection management systems, as well as the size and the type of the full content data and the size of the databases. By analyzing the results, the goal was to answer the following three questions: (1) Can any significant difference be established between the results according to country, nationality, or type of institution?; (2) How large is a metadata record or a full content record?; (3) Is it possible to establish a methodology for selecting a representative sample of institutions to facilitate further research? For planning the costs of data management, the size of the databases, the number of metadata records, and the variability of metadata and media records shall all be considered. A distinction should be made between the indispensable "primary" data to be preserved for a long time, and the "secondary" data units which are derived from the primary data. From the students' reactions, trainers recognize the changing technological, social, and economic context of library and information science (LIS) and the students' competence expectations. They incorporate these experiences when updating the training program, and draw important conclusions therefrom regarding the future of libraries and LIS. This is crucial to providing students with a credible vision: where is LIS headed; what is the future library like; what roles will libraries have in the era of artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and data science? It is not enough to deny stereotyped predictions, for example, that robotics may take their jobs. In our study we rely on our experiences from courses on digital collections to refute incorrect assumptions and to introduce the four futureproof attributes of LIS: (1) human creativity remains essential; (2) the professional use of social media is crucial in accessing community knowledge; (3) collaboration competences have lasting value; (4) research-oriented attitude is increasingly important in the librarian profession. Purpose: The advancement of technology has brought much uncertainty in the access and utilization of information resources in academic libraries. This research sought to determine the extent to which academic libraries in Kenya engage in innovation and use innovative strategies. In addition, this study aims to identify the specific innovation practices and strategies used by these libraries to ensure they effectively address users' information needs and remain relevant within the Kenyan context. Design/methodology/approach: This study adopted a qualitative research design. Data was collected using face-to-face interviews that targeted key personnel in the academic library system, including the university librarian, the circulation librarian and the digital/systems librarian. In total, 21 respondents were interviewed in this study. Additional data was gathered by examining primary documents such as academic library policies, university websites and library brochures, among other sources. The study used purposive sampling techniques to select the population sample and the theoretical saturation to determine the sample size. Findings: The study revealed a pressing need for change in the academic library landscape in Kenya. It established that the concept of innovation and innovation strategies is still new in academic libraries in Kenya, and libraries are still confined to traditional and routine duties. There is a lack of appropriate strategies for enhancing innovation practices/strategies in academic libraries. The paper, therefore, strongly recommends the reorganization of academic libraries in Kenya. Originality/value: To the best of the authors' knowledge, this research is the first to analyze innovation strategies and practices in academic libraries in Kenya. This study sheds light on the puzzles facing most academic libraries in Kenya regarding innovation and innovation strategies. Aim: The aim of this paper is to introduce the evolutionary process of information service tools used in libraries through the system of Hungarian information sources on shipping. In the first part we describe a possible model for collecting, identifying, analysing and publishing Hungarian scientific literature on shipping. In the next part we describe the current situation in Hungary, especially regarding content accessible online for free, published by public administration bodies, and professional and non-governmental organizations. Finally, we discuss possible future courses of development. Research method: Our research is based on scientific literature, professional consultations, our own data collection, and experiences. Our work, especially the identification and use of documents and modern infocommunicational applications, is largely based on selection and assessment performed during library information service, on systems approach, and on looking for connections. We aimed to use English references in the paper, but in those cases where no such sources were found, and it was necessary for understanding the point, we listed Hungarian bibliographic entries. Results/Conclusions: The development of information service systems related to shipping and aimed at current events is inconceivable without involving the latest IT innovations, the cooperation of different fields, and the support networks of the European Union. Hungarian librarianship and related research are sadly underrepresented in international literature. With this article we intend to fill this gap and inform the experts of library and information science of some of the most recent Hungarian innovations. After showcasing the international professional connections of Hungarian librarianship, we present the structure of the Hungarian public library network and its mode of operation. We also analyse current and future main digital development plans, projects and the most important related professional activities of Hungarian libraries. Emphasis is placed on information systems promoting cooperation between libraries and the issues of the National Library System Project, which is a large-scale modernisation programme carried out between 2016 and 2018, designed to develop the IT system of the National Széchényi Library. After introducing the information systems of academic and specialised libraries and the access models of scientific databases provided by multinational and Hungarian content services, we also discuss the endeavours of public libraries aiming for multifunctionality and community organisation. The aim of this paper is to identify the most prevailing trends of research and publishing in the field of Library and Information Science (LIS) based on the publications of the past five years. The study follows a complex methodology. First, the scope of the journals to be analysed were defined, using the results of the Scimago Journal Rank (SJR) from the period between 2013 and 2017, and then their most cited articles were selected based on Web of Science (WoS) data. During the selection process we performed a comparative analysis of the journals as well, involving several criteria, to be able to finally choose 632 articles, published between 2014 and 2018 to be included in our research sample. We then examined (1) the authors occurring most frequently, (2) the most often cited articles, (3) the institutions with the highest publication activity, (4) the most common topics based on titles, keywords, and abstracts, and (5) the connections between all of the above. The results of the analyses provide an international overview and assessment of the leading research topics and the most prominent representatives of LIS, all of which are directly connected to the notion and the activities of academic libraries. In Hungary it has been a long-standing task to involve libraries in information supply for small and medium-sized businesses. In order to catalyse relevant services of Hungarian libraries the MA students of the Eötvös Loránd University Faculty of Humanities Institute of Library and Information Science, specialising in business information management, selected and abstracted research findings from abroad and analysed best practices. The Government adopted in December 2014 a new development concept for higher education, laying down the relevant strategic goals till 2030. As a first step of its implementation, the structure of specializations was transformed in June 2015. Following the introduction of the Hungarian Qualifications Framework, under the leadership of the Ministry of Human Resources Development (EMMI), in co-operation with the Hungarian Rectors' Conference, the review process of training and outcome requirements started in July 2015. In March 2015 a new advocacy organization, the Board of Library and Information Science Training Institutions was set up. Its members formed a working committee for consultation on the future of LIS education at the BA and MA levels, on the criteria influencing the training and outcome requirements as the framework of LIS education, as well as other tasks waiting to be solved. Infographics are an integral and popular part of our daily lives, assist fast and clear orientation, and influence communities online as marketing tools. The study presents and analyses infographics from the United States of America, with the aim to review main statistical data and major trends in public library development in the US. The goals of the article are, however, much more comprehensive. Best practices are published to promote the production of library infographics in Hungary, and to stimulate the distribution of high-quality content. The authors are convinced that Hungarian librarianship wishes to influence decision-makers, as well as to improve both professional public relations and the image of libraries/librarians by this modern method. This paper aims to clarify in what ways can libraries increase their - usually very tight -budget by external funds (from charity or sponsorship) to complement maintainers' funding. To this end, the related practice of two, internationally renowned libraries, the New York Public Library and the British Library are reviewed in detail, followed by the activities and achievements in the period 2012 to present of the Foundation for the University Library, Budapest, celebrating its tenth anniversary in 2015. As a consequence, inventive entrepreneurs appear in all fields of life including business information provision, who provide to those concerned illegitimate or many times lawful but ethically questionable or misleading offers, based mainly on disinformation, and often gain easy income. LIS education at the university level - having started in the academic year 0948/49 at the Eätväs Loránd University (ELTE), Budapest - arrived at a new milestone in the summer of 2009 when the first graduates finished their studies at the BA level according to the Bologna requirements. Following a short overview of the new structure of higher education in Hungary and the steps of accreditation, the author draws a balance of education for the BA level, based on the experience of education at the ELTE Faculty of Humanities, Institute of Informatics and Library Science (BTK IKI). Transport by water and cruising seem to regain importance and popularity in Hungary, which results in growing interest in related information. However, library reference services have not concentrated sufficiently on the subject of shipping over the past decades, so the author of this study makes an attempt to fill the gap. The study provides a comprehensive guide to the most important Hungarian information sources related to ship transport available on the Internet. The need for the knowledge society-oriented development of the Hungarian library network cannot be questioned. Business information services should be an integral part of library service provision, and the present study aims to raise more awareness around this area. The group of articles starts with a brief summary of Géza Fülöp's (1928-1998) career path. He joined the LIS School of the Eötvös Loránd University in 1961. He acted as Head of Department between 1986 and 1994. His name is associated with a renewal of the department and the modernisation of its training structure. Academic libraries are currently experiencing a drastic change; this change has been necessitated with the introduction of the internet and the advancement of technology. Traditionally, academic libraries were the sole providers of information in the university environment. However, with the introduction of the internet, information access is scattered, and the academic library that previously used to enjoy the monopoly of being the only disseminator of information, now has competitors. The internet has changed the way information is accessed, packaged, shared and disseminated. Library users are changing the way they access information. Despite all these changes, academic libraries are yet to fully develop and embrace appropriate strategies to address these new realities. This paper highlights the significance of introducing innovative strategies in academic libraries for sustainability purposes, using business entrepreneurial theories, competing values framework and disruptive innovation theory in the transformation of academic libraries into a value addition organization. The legacy of Krisztina Voit, former Head of the Department of Library and Information Science at the Eötvös Loránd University, Faculty of Humanities (ELTE BTK KITI) discovered unpublished interviews. These interviews were made with significant personalities of our profession, some time in the 1980s. The faculty decided to publish these conversations and to present them in a series in Könyvtári Figyelő. Today, it cannot be established beyond doubt who conducted the interviews, but they certainly serve as valuable resources in learning about the history of the profession. The opening piece of the series is an interview with Miklós Marót (1928-2006), a leading staff member of the Metropolitan Szabó Ervin Library and the ELTE University Library.
