This work includes an intervention-action proposal, which makes use of a communicative and innovative approach, to carry out an investigation about the use of gamified activities in the English classroom, its effects on the factors that influence the improvement of oral skills in the foreign language and the benefits of its implementation. To do this, after a thorough review of the recent literature regarding the teaching of English as a foreign language and the use of gamification as a methodology in the classroom, a program has been designed to apply this methodology. It consists of two Sessions and a series of gamified activities that aspire to enhance the oral skills of Compulsory Secondary Education students, specifically of the first year, in which board games will be used to develop oral comprehension and production skills. Computational Thinking (CT) has been highlighted as a key competence of the 21st century. The literature has pointed to the use of unplugged activities, including board games (BG), as a strategy to promote the development of Computational Thinking. Recently, new modern board games (MBG), referred to as Eurogames, have aroused the interest of researchers who have underlined their unique design and mechanics. To investigate the impact of the use of MBG on CT development, a systematic literature review (SLR) was structured using the PRISMA protocol as a reference. The focus was centred on the analysis of empirical studies based on the use of board games in school settings to promote CT skills. This paper opens with the presentation of several essential concepts, among which CT and Eurogames are included, followed by the results of the SLR, focusing on the analysed articles, the theoretical frameworks supporting the studies, the research contexts and methods, the data collection instruments and the results reported by the authors. Out of 85 articles, 11 studies published between 2011 and 2021 were analysed. The results suggest that game mechanics, typical of Eurogames, reveal the potential to promote CT. This paper presents the design and evaluation of a board game type educational resource, entitled 'S.O.S. Civilizations'. The design of this resource is based on the commercial game "The Forbidden Island". Based on game-based learning, its objective is to contribute to the training and knowledge of High School students in environmental and social issues of the 21st century, through the Sustainable Development Goals (UN). The ability of the designed game to foster motivation and pro-environmental commitment has been evaluated through a qualitative analysis using two theoretical frameworks. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article is an excerpt from a master'sthesis, carried out in the Postgraduate Program in Special Education at the Federal University of São Carlos. The general objective was to observe and analyze the use of the boardgame in the process of appropriating skills related to reading and writing of children in situations of social vulnerability. This research was carried out in a Civil Society Organization, in the interior of the state of São Paulo. Four teen girls from seven to ten years old who atended this organization participated in this study. It had three stages: 1. Initial survey; 2. Intervention with board games; 3. Completion. The results showed a gain in skills during the process of acquisition of Reading and writing, since the application of the evaluations demonstrated that all girls developed new skills possibly due to thein fluence of the game. In this article, we explore the implementation of storytelling techniques in the classroom and analyze the processes of collaborative story creation. This is done within the framework of educational and innovation research project Story Chasers. Story Chasers was funded by the Barcelona City Council and was developed in two editions (between 2017 and 2019) in primary and secondary schools in Barcelona, as well as in other non-formal educational contexts. Based on a board game created specifically for the project, a series of workshops to experiment with the exchange of narrative worlds between the participants were implemented. The game is the starting point of a co-creation methodology with the aim of fostering the co-construction of fictional stories based on premises that stimulate reflection on challenges such as the climate emergency, the fight against discrimination based on ethnicity, functional diversity or gender. The dynamics of Story Chasers allow for the observation of a series of strategies, in which the students combine the premises with their own personal experiences, their cultural background and their social environment. This way, the generation of empathy and possible responses to challenges posed to the students are fostered. Through this experience, we conclude that storytelling and fiction are a valuable creative methodology and an effective tool to address social challenges in a plural way and to promote collective and collaborative creation processes in the classroom. This article reflects on a participatory research that led to the design and use of a board game with indigenous people in the Colombian Amazon. The objective of the "Juego de Chagras" is to produce, process and market food, and in its execution, decision making involves the players in discussions and analysis of the studied phenomenon. The strategies of the players and how they connect to the decisions that people make on a daily basis are analyzed by means of experimental ethnography. It is concluded that games hold considerable potential for participatory research, if they are analyzed as cultural performances that reveal the situation of the players on the basis of their decisions in the game, and the social contexts in which they are immersed. Science, technology and engineering students, within the scope of the European Higher Education Area, often approach their subjects as chunks of knowledge due to the very construction of the teaching plans and the interdepartmental structure of the universities, that is, without deepening the interrelationship between these chunks and the future working reality that the student will have to live. During this research, a board game was designed, within the framework of STEAM education, in order to establish the dynamics of playful activities to generate a gamified learning environment. Through a planned, organized, directed and systematic research process, the effect of the use of the board game on the academic grades of engineering students was assessed, based on the hypothesis that the use of this game allows the acquisition not only of knowledge, but also of the ability to integrate the knowledge of subjects directly linked to the STEAM environment. With the aim of promoting knowledge of geomorphology through a tool that can be used by society as a whole, in a geomorphology course of geological degree project-based learning (PBL) and gamification were incorporated as an innovative teaching-learning methodology. The implementation of the project was based on the creation of a board which incorporated the gamification at the moment of using the created game which proved to be a viable learning tool which contributes to the acquisition of geomorphological knowledge, improves the analytical abilities, creativity and motivation in students. Due to the technological simplicity and economic accessibility of the game created, it is expected that society has the possibility of approaching geology, becoming in a better knowledge of its natural environment.
