This paper introduces the special issue of the journal on trauma-informed care in forensic settings. We consider the contributions of each of the papers, followed by a discussion of the complexities of work in this area. We conclude by proposing three general principles that can be used to guide the ongoing development of trauma-informed forensic practice. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Forensic mental health, custodial and community forensic services provide care and treatment to individuals with complex histories and needs including the presence of trauma. With increased attention being paid to delivering trauma informed care, this paper presents a framework for supporting safe and effective service delivery. It details ways in which trauma informed organizational consultation and trauma informed staff supervision and reflective practice should be embedded within criminal justice and forensic mental health service delivery. Together these support reflection, learning, decision making and intentional action, helping to meet an organization's duty of care to both staff and clients. Trauma informed organizational consultation and trauma informed forensic staff supervision and reflective practice provide ways to anticipate and address possible iatrogenic impacts on staff (e.g. burnout, presenteeism and sickness) and on clients (e.g. dropping out of treatment). A new scorpion species, Kochius colluvius sp. n. is described (Scorpiones: Vaejovidae). This small brown species is found in the Avra Valley near Tucson, Arizona, USA. It appears to be most similar to Kochius sonorae (Williams, 1971) and K. hirsuticauda (Banks, 1910). On all fingers examined, the fixed finger has 6 ID denticles and the movable finger has 7. There is no scalloping of the chela fingers. This species differs from all other vaejovids in Arizona by having a coarsely granulated exoskeleton. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article provides information on the pathophysiology, treatment and prevention of frostbite. The primary cause of frostbite is exposure to freezing temperatures, usually affecting areas of the body with the most variable blood flow. Frostbite management requires addressing hypothermia first, followed by evacuation to a hospital for monitoring, diagnostic studies and intervention.

The present study was conducted to translate and adapt The Career Key (Jones, 2010) to have a culturally equivalent and linguistically accurate Urdu version (Career Key Urdu) for use in Pakistan. Both versions The Career Key (Original) and Career Key Urdu were administered to a sample of 179 students from various academic institutions. The possible practice effect was controlled by administering both versions with the gap of one week. The data were analyzed in three ways: First, internal consistency was calculated through Cronbach alpha coefficients for each scale by gender and education level. Second, similarities of both versions of the Scale were established by comparing their correlations. Finally, construct validity in Pakistani culture was established by using Hubert and Arabie's (1987) Test of Random Order. Results were indicative of sound psychometric properties for the Career Key Urdu version, but Holland's hexagonal interest structure did not fit expectations. The corresponding indices of randomized test of hypothesized order for both measures were low when compared with US sample. The findings are discussed in cultural context. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: The contract for the seven European Sectors of the ITER Vacuum Vessel, which has very tight tolerances and high density of welding, was placed at the end of 2010 with AMW, a consortium of three companies. The start-up of the engineering, including R&D, design and analysis activities of this large and complex contract, one of the largest placed by F4E, the European Domestic Agency for ITER, is described. The statutory and regulatory requirements of ITER Organization and the French Nuclear Safety regulations have made the design development subject to rigorous controls. AMW was able to make use of the previous extensive R&D and prototype work carried out during the past 9 years, especially in relation to advanced welding and inspection techniques. The paper describes the manufacturing methodology with the focus on controlling distortion with predictions by analysis, avoiding use of welded-on jigs, and making use of low heat input narrow-gap welding with electron beam welding as far as possible and narrow-gap TIG when not. Further R&D and more than ten significant mock-ups are described. All these preparations will help to assure the successful manufacture of this critical path item of ITER. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: For the benefit of the bidders for the Call-for-Tender for the 7 sectors of the ITER Vacuum Vessel, launched in early 2010, a large amount of relevant technical information was included to ensure a rapid start to successful manufacture programme, without the need for a full-scale prototype, which would cause an unacceptable delay to the ITER schedule. The methodology of the logical structures of the specification and the additional planned mock-ups are described and the results from nearly a decade of R&D and manufacturing studies carried out inside the EU under the auspices of EFDA and F4E are also summarised. The work covers the evolution of novel manufacturing schemes and technologies, including a modular special local machining centre for making holes in the shell of the vessel with weld preparation included. New results from the combined studies by three parties, and using a round-robin trial system on the UT inspection of single-sided welds, including the successful control of the root side are described. A full-scale, partial prototype has demonstrated the successful construction segments using jigs to control the distortion from conventional welding, from the inner shell to the outer shell, and then the joining of the segments to form a part sector. The paper also summarises the results from the prototype segment, manufactured without jigs and using only EB welds. In order to be able to achieve the required as-welded tight tolerances, two specialised computational techniques have been developed, using SYSWELD and ANSYS codes and calibrated with the mock-ups in order to efficiently predict welding distortions. Based on this successful practical and theoretical work, computer models of the complete poloidal segments or sectors, including jigs, were can now generated and used to investigate many welding sequences in order to optimise the construction and achieve all the tolerances. Abstract: The valley floor of a 33.9km2 watershed in western Colorado experienced gradual sedimentation from before ∼6765 to ∼500cal yr BP followed by deep incision, renewed aggradation, and secondary incision. In contrast, at least four terraces and widespread cut-and-fill architecture in the valley floor downstream indicate multiple episodes of incision and deposition occurred during the same time interval. The upper valley fill history is atypical compared to other drainages in the Colorado Plateau. One possible reason for these differences is that a bedrock canyon between the upper and lower valley prevented headward erosion from reaching the upper valley fill. Another possibility is that widespread, sand-rich, clay-poor lithologies in the upper drainage limited surface runoff and generally favored alluviation, whereas more clay-rich lithologies in the lower drainage resulted in increased surface runoff and more frequent incision. Twenty-two dates from valley fill charcoal indicate an approximate forest fire recurrence interval of several hundred years, similar to that from other studies in juniper–piñon woodlands. Results show that closely spaced vertical sampling of alluvium in headwater valleys where linkages between hillslope processes and fluvial activity are relatively direct can provide insight about the role of fires in alluvial chronologies of semi-arid watersheds. The strategic pitfalls to a software product line (SPL) are the failure to recognize that a SPL approach is both a business and a technical strategy and the failure to manage the product-line unique aspects of both governance and roll-out appropriately. Attention to organizational change management and more disciplined technical practices are cited as remedies to these problems.

Abstract: Objective: Some authorities are concerned that the use of complementary and alternative medications (CAM) may replace recommended preventive health practices. This study was done to determine if users of individual types of CAM were less likely to receive recommended immunizations. Methods: We used data from the 2007 National Health Interview Survey of over 23,000 adult, non-institutionalized U.S. citizens using bivariate and multivariate analysis to determine if users of individual types of CAM were less likely to receive influenza and/or pneumococcal vaccinations. Results: Using a weighted logistic regression analysis, we found that respondents who used chiropractic care were less likely to receive flu shots (OR=0.68, CI=0.55,0.83, p <0.001). There was a mildly positive trend toward receiving the pneumococcal vaccine in users of deep breathing exercises and toward not receiving both in followers of qi gong. Prayer use was prevalent and had a positive impact on receiving immunizations, especially in Blacks and those in poor health. Regular exercise, having a primary care provider and more frequent office visits were also positively associated with receiving immunizations. Conclusion: Chiropractic users are less likely to get flu shots, perhaps reflecting their national body''s attitude, which could affect morbidity and mortality. Abstract: HEXITEC is a collaborative project with the aim of developing a new range of detectors for high-energy X-ray imaging. High-energy X-ray imaging has major advantages over current lower energy imaging for the life and physical sciences, including improved phase-contrast images on larger, higher density samples and with lower accumulated doses. However, at these energies conventional silicon-based devices cannot be used, hence, the requirement for a new range of high Z-detector materials. Underpinning the HEXITEC programme are the development of a pixellated Cadmium Zinc Telluride (CZT) detectors and a pixellated readout ASIC which will be bump-bonded to the detector. The HEXITEC ASIC is required to have low noise (20 electrons rms) and tolerate detector leakage currents. A prototype 20×20pixel ASIC has been developed and manufactured on a standard 0.35μm CMOS process. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

The article presents a risk assessment model about Offence Paralleling Behavior (OPB) by Lawrence Jones. Jones identifies OPB as a developmental sequence of behavior akin to the notion of an offence chain which is understood in terms of function not morphology. In addition, he also advocated the OPB framework as a strategy for identifying intervention opportunities, monitoring treatment progress and supplementing risk-related decision-making in custodial settings. Meanwhile, OPB framework can be used to structure clinical judgements of risk, with a it more effectively.

Recent political initiatives have increased the focus on providing clinical services for personality disordered individuals. Increased attention on those identified as having dangerous and severe personality disorder (DSPD) has led to the piloting of specialist services to trial new assessments and interventions for the DSPD group in both health and prison settings. This article outlines the development and provision of clinical services for those within The Peaks, the DSPD pilot service within Rampton Hospital. The Peaks, the first new-build health-based unit, aims to provide a comprehensive service specifically focused on addressing the full range of clinical and criminogenic needs of those within the DSPD group. The Upper Jurassic Salt Wash Member of the Morrison Formation in east-central Utah contains low sinuosity, ribbon-shaped fluvial channel sandstones enclosed by variegated mudstones. Channel sandstones formed when avulsion (the relatively abrupt shift of a river to a new channel) relocated a channel, after which extensive in-channel and minor near-channel sand deposition occurred. Interpretation of sedimentological, paleontological, and paleoclimatic data, and comparison with a possible modern analog, suggest that some channel avulsions and the subsequent deposition of ribbon sandstones may have occurred when large Jurassic dinosaurs, such as sauropods, partially or completely blocked active channels at death, thereby forcing discharge out of channels and into overbank areas. This process is termed “dinovulsion.” Dinosaurs also may have trampled deep pathways into the damp, soft floodplain substrate, creating channel-like conduits that focused overbank flow during flooding. In places where overbank flow concentrated in these deep, channel-shaped trails, a new channel course was scoured, and an avulsion was completed. As time passed and the system aggraded, these processes may have recurred and contributed to the preserved architecture of isolated, low-sinuosity sandstone ribbons. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: The ITER vacuum vessel, to be constructed on site from nine toroidal sectors, places as-welded manufacturing tolerances on the surfaces several times smaller than usual, in relation to its large size. Framatome ANP has proposed a manufacturing route for the sector construction, accepted as the reference by the ITER International Team. To facilitate the achievement of the required tight tolerances, EFDA has implemented a development programme, including the manufacturing part of the sector and the analysis of its distortion using SYSWELD computer modelling. This article presents information related to project management in a software product line organization. Software product line organizations have unique practices and project definitions. Many software product line organizations manage the activities that create and evolve core assets separately from those that create and evolve end products. The two development operations therefore constitute, in effect, separate projects. In this management strategy, product development project managers must understand each project's role as a core assets consumer, as well as its place in the overall product line. The supply chain for such projects is largely internal to the developing organization. At the same time, core asset development project managers must understand each project's role in the context of the products to be built from them. Successful product line engineering requires management and coordination of both the core asset and product development projects to meet the organization's overall business goals.

In this study, we investigated the psychophysiological responsiveness of psychopathic individuals to distress cues and to threatening and neutral stimuli. Eighteen psychopathic individuals and 18 incarcerated control individuals, identified using the Revised Psychopathy Checklist (Hare, 1991. The Hare Pscyhopathy Checklist -- Revised, Toronto: MultiHealth Systems) were shown slides of these three types of stimuli, and their electrodermal responses were recorded. The psychopathic individuals showed (relative to the controls) reduced electrodermal responses to the distress cues. In contrast, the two groups did not differ in their electrodermal responses to the threatening stimuli and to the neutral stimuli. The roles of affective and cognitive processes in judgment have been the focus of much recent research and theoretical debate. This study was designed to investigate the structure of voters' affective reactions and trait attributions to national political figures. Three-mode factor analysis was used to determine the structure of the affect and trait scales. Politician factors and subject types were also derived, as were the interrelationships among these modes. Positive and negative affect factors, and affect and trait factors, were distinct but correlated; Democratic and Republican politician factors were uncorrelated. In past research, a matrix of squared profile distances, δ, has sometimes been multidimensionally scaled rather than the matrix of original dissimilarities, D. It is thought that scaling solutions derived from δ have lower stress and enhanced interpretability when applied to data generated by sorting. Two experiments were performed to investigate the consequences of the delta transformation. First, random numbers resembling data collected by the method of sorting were simulated. Scaling solutions derived from δ matrices invariably had lower stress than solutions computed from the associated D matrices. This result suggests that the delta transformation may reduce stress irrespective of any change in interpretability. Simulated dissimilarity matrices were then generated from known stimulus configurations. It was found that: (1) nonmetric multidimensional scaling solutions for δ matrices had relatively lower stress; but under low error conditions (2) solution based on D were more closely related to the underlying configurations; and (3) determination of dimensionality by inspection of the stress plot was somewhat more difficult for solutions based on δ. These results can be understood by observing that the delta transformation tends to increase the size of large distances in the derived configurations relative to small distances. The increasing usage of smart wearable devices has made an impact not only on the lifestyle of the users, but also on biological research and personalized healthcare services. These devices, which carry different types of sensors, have emerged as personalized digital diagnostic tools. Data from such devices have enabled the prediction and detection of various physiological as well as psychological conditions and diseases. In this review, we have focused on the diagnostic applications of wrist-worn wearables to detect multiple diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, neurological disorders, fatty liver diseases, and metabolic disorders, including diabetes, sleep quality, and psychological illnesses. The fruitful usage of wearables requires fast and insightful data analysis, which is feasible through machine learning. In this review, we have also discussed various machine-learning applications and outcomes for wearable data analyses. Finally, we have discussed the current challenges with wearable usage and data, and the future perspectives of wearable devices as diagnostic tools for research and personalized healthcare domains.
