Abstract

Cushman uses rationalization to refer to people's explanations for their own actions. In system justification theory, scholars use the same term to refer to people's efforts to cast their current status quo in an exaggeratedly positive light. We try to reconcile these two meanings, positing that system justification could result from people trying to explain their own failure to take action to combat inequality. Although people report grave concern over their data privacy, they take little care to protect it. We suggest that this privacy paradox can be understood in part as the consequence of an evolutionary mismatch: Privacy intuitions evolved in an environment that was radically different from the one found online. The Wannsee-Lawyers: Flexbility of Legal Culture?It has been suggested that a considerable part of the participants of the infamous Wannsee Conference (January 20, 1942) were lawyers. The paper will try to answer some of the questions this suggestion provokes. Were there really that many lawyers among the 15 top-nazi's that discussed the fate of the European Jews that day? A subsequent question is: (if they were a significant part of the participants) why there were so many lawyers involved. How can this be explained? And finally one wonders: how could they? Abstract

Dynamics of Business Contracting and the Bureaucratization of Trust.In an empirical study of business contracting and complaint-management two contrasting branches of industry are compared: Construction and Plastics. Construction appears as an industry with a business-logic that results in a high risk of complaints in its contractual relations. The complaints in the low trust relations with clients tend to be managed in a way that is often confrontational. The business-logic of the Plastics industry apparently results in an extremely low risk of complaints in its contractual relations. The management of complaints in the high trust relations with suppliers and clients show some remarkable traits.
