This study aimed to examine the mediating effect of identity in the relationships among the instability of self-image, self-focus, and psychological stress responses. University students and graduates were surveyed using a questionnaire to collect data. By performing structural equation modeling, the instability of selfimage was found to enhance rumination and identity confusion, and both increased global psychological stress responses. Reflection strengthened identity synthesis and weakened confusion. While confusion increased psychological stress responses, synthesis only weakened apathy. A mediation analysis was performed with the same model. Identity was found to partially mediate the relationship between rumination and psychological stress response and completely mediate the relationship between reflection and psychological stress responses. Based on these results, it can be inferred that identity problem may lead to mental health problems caused by rumination and confusion stemming from the instability of selfimage. Interventions targeting the instability of self-image and rumination may be effective in preventing mental health problems. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We present a construction to simulate Turing machines with 3 × 3 matrices over rationals. The correctness of simulation is guaranteed by testing that the matrices have integral elements during the simulation. The intercultural literature that begins in the 1960s and 1970s in Germany as a consequence of migration, experiences a content related, structural and linguistic change until today. While doing so the topic identity gets more and more to centre. The works of Aras Ören, one of the most known Turkish authors, have a representative character for the migrant and intercultural literature, in which the identity problem is always noted as leitmotif. In this article the identity problem in Aras Ören's novel "Berlin Savignyplatz" will be analysed, especially related to Ören's narrative "Bitte nix Polizei", in the frame of the historical developments of migrants in social life in Germany. Zafer Şenocak is one of the best-known representatives of Turkish authors in Germany. In his autobiographical novel, he addresses the identity problem of the individual as well as part of the collective, in which he describes the events from the point of view of the protagonist Sascha Muhteschem. The protagonist working as a journalist and writer in Berlin has a family constellation consisting of Germans, Jews and Turks. He gets after the death of his parents the diaries of his Turkish grandfather as an heir. And these diaries give him the idea to pursue the story of his family, which is actually a search for themselves. In the present work, the identity problem of the protagonist is examined for its causes. It examines the question to what extent the behavior of society could be held responsible for this problem. The westernization efforts in Turkey have caused several effects on individuals and society, from "Tanzimat" to these days. Therefore, the problems of people especially intellectuals and semiintelectuals who had get stuck in East-West or tradition-modernity dilemma has been a topic in Turkish literature. In this study, the subject of "being your own" on Kara Kitap by Orhan Pamuk who is the one of most important writers of Turkish literature, is scrutinized. In this novel, we see that a substantially identity vetting with intertextuality on two main characters, Celal and Galip, in addition some discussions about imitations the others life and "being your own". Through the instrumentality of some contacts with classic poets like Mevlana and Şeyh Galip and modern Turkish writers like Oğuz Atay, provide an opportunity to find different projections in past and modern age to us. In addition to this, there is an identity problem that not only on individuals but also on society cause of urbanization is seemed as a serious problem on thisnovel so we understand that society has lost its identity and has been a stranger to it. The text is organized as follows: After a summary introduction, showing why mathematical Platonism is at the same time intuitively appealing and philosophically untenable (§1) I discuss one of its alternatives - the philosophy of mathematical structuralism (§2). Identity problems of adolescents, which according to Erikson's theory manifest as neurosis-like conditions, were investigated in contemporary Japan. The Multidimensional Ego Identity Scale (Tani, 2001, 2008) that measures the sense of ego identity strictly on the basis of Erikson's theory, and the Japanese version of the General Health Questionnaire 28 items (Nakagawa & Daibo, 1985), an index of neurosis that is often used in clinical practice, were administered to university students (N=302). Results of a one-factor ANOVA indicated that the identity crisis, which is a characteristic of adolescence, does indeed occur in contemporary Japan. Moreover, it was indicated that developmental support focusing on identity formation was necessary for adolescents with identity diffusion. Furthermore, results of multiple regression analysis suggested that social position and connections, as well as self-consistency and continuity of adolescence should be considered when providing support. Abstract: It is known that a group presentation can be regarded as a 2-complex with a single 0-cell. Thus we can consider a 3-complex with a single 0-cell which is known as a 3-presentation. Similarly, we can also consider 3-presentations for monoids. In this paper, by using spherical monoid pictures, we show that there exists a finite 3-monoid-presentation which has unsolvable “generalized identity problem” that can be thought as the next step (or one-dimension higher) of the word problem for monoids. This paper examines the expression, prevalence, and incremental validity of identity problem symptoms in adolescence. A sample of high school students ( N = 140) aged 15–18 completed measures of identity problem symptoms, identity status, and psychological symptom severity. Findings suggested that 14.3% would meet DSM IV criteria for identity problem. Identity problem symptoms predicted psychological symptom scores beyond identity status, and identity status accounted for substantially less variance in psychological symptom severity when controlling for identity problem symptoms. Additional research on the relationship between identity problems and psychological adjustment is needed and greater attention to the role of identity issues in clinical practice is warranted.
