Currently, studies conducted on animal models provide new insight into the aetiology and course of various pathological conditions in humans. Due to the cause of disease, animal models can be divided into two categories: natural models, such as nude mice, and induced models, such as transgenic pigs. This article discusses several examples of animal models and their contributions to the development of effective therapies for human diseases such as muscular dystrophy, cystic fibrosis, and atherosclerosis. In addition, we presented the latest news on gene therapy, xenotransplantation, and drug trials in humans and animals. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
