This study investigates the impact of air pollution on health outcomes in Middle Eastern countries, a region facing severe environmental challenges. As such, these are important in an effort to add up to policy-level as well as interventional changes that can be put in practice in the area of public health. Numeration analysis and association with health parameters was carried out by using Analytical tools such as, AIR Data, ARIMA,ANN, SVM and Exponential smoothing. Amongst the models, Support Vector Machine came again on top, with high accuracy yielding Mean Absolute Percentage Error of approximately 1%. The above perceptions indicate that there is need to adapt modeling strategies depending on the context and establish that it is possible to implement ML models in public health planning basket. We investigated the influence of social determinants of health (SDOH), healthcare services, and health behaviors on mental and physical health outcomes of cancer patients between the first winter and the following post-vaccine summer of the COVID-19 pandemic. A three-wave online survey of individuals diagnosed with incident cancer between January 2019 and January 2020 was conducted between November of 2020 and August of 2021 in northeast Ohio. Descriptive analysis and mixed-effect regression analyses were performed. A total of 322 newly diagnosed cancer patients, with 40 African Americans and 282 Whites (215 from metropolitan areas and 67 nonmetropolitan) responded to the survey questions. In Wave 3 ending in August 2021, the survey respondents reported significantly reduced depression (p =.019) on the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale and improved global health (p =.036) on PROMIS. With age, comorbidity, and other demographic and medical variables controlled in the analyses, the feeling of loneliness (p <.001) and crowded living space (p =.001, p =.015) were the two most prominent factors associated with depression, irritability, and poor global health at baseline, with the lowest p values and persistent effect. Self-efficacy of taking preventive measures was associated with reduced depression (p =.001) and improved global health (p =.029). Increasing access to medicine (p <.01) and satisfaction with telehealth appointments (p <.01) were significantly associated with better global health and reduced irritability. Respondents who had private health insurance reported better health than those that had Medicare coverage only (p <.05). This longitudinal, observational study demonstrated the impact of SDOH on health outcomes of cancer patients. Substandard living conditions resulting in loneliness and crowdedness, quality of medical care (e.g., quality telehealth and access to medicine), and personal behaviors (e.g., self-efficacy) were significantly associated with health outcomes in newly diagnosed cancer patients during the pandemic and should be given adequate consideration for the purpose of improving clinical care. The clinical importance of adhering to the regimen in tuberculosis patients has been widely investigated, but most studies were conducted in controlled settings and in limited populations. We aimed to measure the level of real-world adherence during intensive phase and investigate the predictors and the risk of mortality and health outcomes of intensive phase non-adherence in tuberculosis patients. We conducted a nationwide cohort study by linking the Korean National Tuberculosis Surveillance System and the National Health Information Database. We included all incident drug-susceptible tuberculosis patients who initiated the regimens recommended by the World Health Organization from 2013 to 2018. Adherence was measured using the proportion of days covered (poor [<50%], moderate [50%–79%], and high [≥80%]). We used logistic regression model to assess predictors and the Cox proportional hazard model to evaluate the risk of mortality and health outcomes with intensive phase non-adherence. Of 46,818 patients, there were 8% and 11% with poor and moderate adherent groups, respectively. Age ≥45 years, insulin use, and history of renal failure were predictors of non-adherence. Compared with high adherent group, poor and moderate adherent groups were associated with a substantial risk of mortality (poor: hazard ratio, 2.14 [95% confidence interval, 1.95–2.34]; moderate: 1.76 [1.62–1.92]). Similar trends were observed for health outcomes. Stratified analyses showed a higher risk of mortality in patients with medical aid, low income, and history of renal failure, systematic corticosteroids, and immunomodulators. Non-adherence during intensive phase increased mortality risk by twofold, underscoring targeted intervention for high-risk population, including advanced diabetes, and immunocompromised patients. This article explores the impact of various crises on the public health of children and adolescents in Europe, including the COVID-19 pandemic, migration, global conflicts, energy shortage, and increased cost of living. These crises have worsened existing health issues and increased inequality among children. The article suggests several measures to mitigate the negative health effects of crises and promote the well-being of children and adolescents, such as preparedness, data collection for evidence-based actions, addressing health inequalities, advocacy, and community empowerment. The authors stress the importance of an integrated and long-term approach, as well as sustained funding, to support children's well-being and address their evolving needs. Background: Traditionally, general practitioners (GPs) have initiated the need for, and ordered, radiological tests. With the emergence of consumer-centred care, patients have started to request scans from doctors on their own initiative. Consumeristic health care has shifted the patient–doctor dyadic relationship, with GPs trending towards accommodating patients' requests. Methods: A mixed method analysis was conducted using a survey instrument with open ended questions and concurrent interviews to explore participants' responses from their requests for radiological studies from GPs. Themes emerging from both qualitative and quantitative methodologies were mapped onto the Andersen Newman Model (ANM). Results: Data were analysed for 'predisposing,' 'need' and 'enabling' elements of the ANM model and were correspondingly mapped to patient's requests for radiological referrals according to the elements of the ANM. Participants expressed anxiety about their health, were confident in the types of radiological scans they desired and typically indicated the need for evidence of good health. Their desire for such requested scans was often enabled through prior exposure to health information and the experience of specific symptoms. Requests came with the expectation of validation, and if these requests were denied, participants indicated that they would seek another doctor who would oblige. Conclusions: In our modest study of Australian patients, participants were well informed about their health. Exposure to information seems to create a sense of anxiousness prior to visiting the doctor. Individuals sought visual proof of wellness through imaging, and doctors in return often accommodated patient requests for radiological studies to appease patients' needs and to maintain workflow. With increased availability of online health information, individuals are more educated about managing their health care. Our study investigates patients requesting their own radiological scans rather than relying on their doctors' expertise. We explore participant responses to clinical encounters where they have initiated a radiological study from their general practitioner, and their self-reported responses and outcomes from such requests. This Viewpoint presents a case study that explored the effects of using a performance-based Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in public health donor programs to enhance health metrics, program efficiency, and accountability. The MoU between Kebbi State Government in Nigeria and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) focused on strengthening primary healthcare. It covered Health Systems Strengthening (HSS) indicators, overseen by an Operations Committee (OC) and a high-level Steering Committee (SC). Quarterly and biannual reviews tracked indicators through a dashboard developed by the Integrated Health Program (IHP). Results suggest that the MoU led to better monitoring of primary healthcare (PHC) revitalization, health sector work plan harmonization, and data quality. Dashboard tracking showed improved health facility financing, immunization, antenatal care, and skilled attendants at births. The use of the MoU demonstrated potential for boosting program efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and political commitment for resource mobilization in public health initiatives. Background. Despite a significant share of Nigeria's budget in the health sector, the health status has not improved, as reflected by poor health indicators. Objective. This study investigates the linkages between government expenditure and health outcomes in Nigeria. Methods. The Autoregressive Distributed Lag technique was used to examine the short- and long-run effects of government health expenditure on health outcomes separately. The health outcome was captured by life expectancy at birth and mortality rate. Results. Findings show a negative relationship exists between health expenditure and mortality rate, implying that a rise in health expenditure leads to a decrease in mortality rate, while life expectancy at birth positively responds to the changes in health expenditure. Conclusions. As a policy recommendation from this study, the government should pursue increasing health expenditure and partner with the private sector in the form of Public-Private Partnerships to improve the health sector and outcomes. Background: The gender gap remains a major impediment in the path toward equality, and it is especially wide in low-income countries. Gender differences in health-seeking behaviors may be a factor. Family size and childbirth order are two critical factors affecting family resource allocation. This study examines gender differences in healthcare-seeking behaviors among children with visual impairment in rural China across different family structures (birth order and family size). Methods: We draw on a dataset containing 19,934 observations constructed by combining data from 252 different school-level surveys spanning two provinces. The surveys were all conducted in 2012 using uniform survey instruments and data collection protocols in randomly selected schools across western provinces in rural China. The sample children range in grades from 4 to 5. Our analysis compares rural girls with rural boys regarding vision health outcome and behavior (vision examination and correction). Results: The findings revealed that girls have worse vision than boys. Regarding vision health behaviors, girls have a lower overall vision examination rate than boys. There is no gender difference when the sample student is the only child or the youngest child in the family, but there is still a gender difference when the sample student is the oldest child in the family or the middle child in the birth order. When it comes to vision correction behavior, boys are more likely to own eyeglasses than girls are for groups of students with mild visual impairment, even when the sample student is the only child in the family. However, when the sample student has another brother or sister (the sample student is the youngest, the oldest child in the family, or the middle child in the birth order), the gender difference disappears. Conclusions: Gender differences in vision health outcomes are correlated with gender differences in vision health-seeking behaviors among rural children. Depending on the birth order and family size, gender disparities in visual health practices vary. In the future, consideration should be given to providing medical subsidies to reduce the cost of vision health behaviors and to provide information interventions to change gender inequality in households and promote equality in children's vision health behaviors. Background: Although there have been reports investigating the quality of life of patients who underwent ventriculoperitoneal shunting or endoscopic third ventriculostomy (ETV) for congenital hydrocephalus, there have been no studies of the quality of life of patients after ventriculoperitoneal shunt (VPS) removal. In the present study, a survey of pediatric and congenital hydrocephalus patients was conducted to compare the quality of life of patients with a remaining VPS with that of patients who had the shunt removed. Methods: Between February 2020 and November 2021, an outpatient survey was administered to patients 8 years of age and older who had undergone VPS due to a diagnosis of congenital hydrocephalus. The Hydrocephalus Outcome Questionnaire (HOQ) was used to assess the quality of life for this study. The HOQ scores (overall health score, physical health score, cognitive health score, and social-emotional health score) were compared among three groups: a VPS-remaining group, VPS-removed with endoscopic third ventriculostomy (ETV) group, and VPS-removed without ETV group. Results: The total number of patients who underwent VPS for hydrocephalus was 71, with 47 in the VPS-remaining group, 14 in the shunt-removed with ETV group, and 10 in the shunt-removed without ETV group. The HOQ overall health score was 0.68 for the VPS-remaining group, 0.74 for the shunt-removed with ETV group, and 0.74 for the shunt-removed without ETV. There were no significant differences between the VPS-remaining group and the VPS-removed with or without ETV groups (p = 0.3255, 0.4178, respectively). Identifying and synthesizing recent empirical research on goal setting among adults with chronic disease is the focus of this article. The article has two phases: Phase 1, a thematic analysis with machine reading of the data and manual thematic analysis, and Phase 2, a quantitative meta-analysis. Qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-method studies are included in Phase 1 (99 papers). Phase 2 includes only quantitative studies (75 papers). Five main themes are identified: (a) the effect of goal characteristics on health-related outcomes, (b) the effect of goal setting on health-related outcomes, (c) the effect of goal achievement on health-related outcomes, (d) goal alignment between patients and health care service providers, and (e) individual and collaborative goal setting of patients and health care service providers. In recent years, the benefits of carrots and carotene in different areas of health have been examined. The purpose of this umbrella review was to identify the associations between carrots and carotene and multiple health outcomes. The review considered evidence from meta‐analyses of interventional and observational studies of carrots and carotene and any health outcome. We comprehensively searched Web of Science, PubMed, and Embase. For each association, we estimated the summary effect size using random and fixed effects models and the 95% confidence interval. A total of 1329 studies were searched, and 30 meta‐analyses with 26 health outcomes were identified that met the eligibility criteria. Carrot intake was associated with a lower risk of multiple cancer outcomes including breast cancer, lung cancer, pancreatic cancer, gastric cancer, urothelial cancer, and prostate cancer. Carotene intake was associated with a lower risk of fracture, age‐related cataract, sunburn, Alzheimer's disease, breast cancer, lung cancer, pancreatic cancer, gastric cancer, esophageal cancer, prostate cancer, and head and neck cancer (HNC). Serum carotene was inversely associated with all‐cause mortality, breast cancer, and lung cancer. • Collection of longitudinal health outcomes of seriously injured trauma patients at a health service level is infrequent. • Impairments in physical and emotional health continue to affect many people following serious traumatic injury. • Trauma clinicians are uniquely placed to facilitate collection of longitudinal health outcomes of trauma patients. • Collection of longitudinal health outcome data at the health service level can drive quality improvement initiatives within trauma systems. • Longitudinal follow-up programs are a platform which may provide ongoing specialist trauma informed care after trauma centre discharge. The routine collection of long-term patient health outcomes after serious traumatic injury at the health service level is uncommon. In 2019, we implemented the longitudinal Trauma Service Follow Up (TSFU) program at a level I trauma centre. Delivered by the trauma service clinicians involved in inpatient care, it assesses quality of life and disability. This study reports the 6- and 12-month outcomes of the first two years of operation of the TSFU program. This is a prospective cohort study of seriously injured adult trauma patients admitted to a level I trauma centre with 6- and 12-months post-discharge outcome assessments. Outcomes were quality of life and function/disability as measured using the EQ-5D-5L and WHODAS 2.0 validated instruments. Changes from 6 to 12 months were assessed using generalised estimating equations methods. Logistic regression models were used to identify factors associated with ongoing problems at each time point. Five-hundred and eight seriously injured patients were eligible for the TSFU program with follow-up rates over 80 % at both 6- and 12-month timepoints. At six months, ongoing problems with pain (69.9 %), anxiety and depression (49 %) and carrying out usual activities (57.5 %) were highly prevalent; at 12 months problems with pain (61.4 %) and anxiety and depression (43.8 %) persisted. Lower extremity and/or pelvic surgery was associated with ongoing pain, odds ratio (OR) = 3.77 (95 % CI 1.54–9.21, p =0.01), anxiety and depression (OR 1.95, 95 % CI 1.09–3.48, p =0.02) and problems carrying out their usual activities (OR 3.19, 95 % CI 0.75–13.5, p =0.11) at six months. These patterns mostly persisted at 12 months. Similar associations between surgical intervention and high levels of disability were evident at both time points. Persistent impairments in physical and emotional health continues to affect many people following serious traumatic injury. The collection of longitudinal health outcomes by trauma clinicians enables identification of factors that contribute to disability and a reduction in quality of life. This in turn can drive quality improvement initiatives within the hospital trauma system. Identify and categorise different models of community-based fruit and vegetable prescription programs, to determine variation in terms of methodology, target population characteristics, and outcomes measured. Applying the scoping review methodology, ten electronic databases were utilised to identify community-based fruit and vegetable incentive programs. Results were evaluated by two independent reviewers, using Covidence software. All full-text reviews were completed and documented using the PRISMA-ScR guidelines. Search results were stored and reviewed within the Covidence software. Thirty fulltext articles were utilised from the 40 206 identified in the search. Target populations were predominantly female, non-white, and low-income. Considerable heterogeneity was found in both study design and quality. Fruit and vegetable vouchers were utilised in 63 % (n 19) of the studies. Prescriptions were primarily provided by community health centres (47 %; n 14) or NGOs (30 %; n 9) and could be redeemed at farmers’ markets (40 %; n 12) or grocery stores (27 %; n 8). When measured, diet quality significantly improved in 94 % (n 16), health outcomes significantly improved in 83 % (n 10), and food security status improved in 82 % (n 10) of studies. Providing financial incentives to offset the cost of fresh fruits and vegetables can increase consumption, improve health outcomes, and improve food security status. The majority of studies showed significant improvements in at least one outcome, demonstrating the effectiveness of community-based fruit and vegetable prescription programs. However, the diversity of measurement techniques and heterogeneity of design, dosage, and duration impeded meaningful comparisons. The lingual ectopic thyroid is a sporadic case. Based on the medical records of Dr. Soetomo General Academic Hospital, Surabaya, they only found one case of ectopic thyroid at least in the last ten years. There is no consensus in the literature about the best therapeutic strategy in managing ectopic thyroid. A 20-year-old female patient with a diagnosis of ectopic lingual thyroid. She has complained of lumps at the base of her tongue since she was ten years old. She performed a partial excision of the tumor with a transoral approach. Partial excision of the lingual ectopic thyroid results in an airway free from obstruction, leaving the rest of the thyroid tissue functioning so that the patient does not require lifelong hormone treatment but has the potential for hypertrophy to recur. The transoral approach provides post-operative results that maintain aesthetic function and reduce morbidity and hospitalization. Partial excision of lingual ectopic thyroid gives good results. Background: Web-based learning has transformed education. Its ability to overcome physical barriers and deliver knowledge at the click of a button has made web-based learning popular and ensured that it will continue to be used in the future. The involvement of parents in web-based learning is fundamental to the success of the educational process, but limited attention has been paid to the impact of web-based learning on parents. Objective: This study examined parental experiences with school-aged children receiving web-based learning in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Methods: We sent cross-sectional, anonymous web-based questionnaires to school-aged children's parents. A total of 184 parents completed the survey. Results: Parents' negative experiences of web-based learning (mean 4.13, SD 0.62) exceeded their positive experiences (mean 3.52, SD 0.65). The most negative experience reported by parents was their child's boredom due to prolonged sitting in front of a device (mean 4.56, SD 0.69). The most positive experience was their child's technological skill enhancement (mean 3.98, SD 88). Their child's lack of social interaction and friendship building promoted stress among parents (r=-0.190; P=.01). At the same time, their child's technological skill enhancement reduced stress among parents (r=0.261; P=.001). The most reported (63/184, 34.2%) obstacle to web-based learning was having multiple learners in the same household. Conclusion: Web-based learning is a fundamental learning method and will continue to be used in the future because of its ability to overcome many barriers to education. Parental involvement in the continuity and success of the web-based learning process is crucial. However, the findings of this study illustrated that parents' experiences of web-based learning were more negative than positive. Parents who reported negative experiences reported an increase in stress and faced more obstacles due to web-based learning. Background: A growing body of evidence supports the efficacy of measurement-based care (MBC) for children and adolescents experiencing mental health concerns, particularly anxiety and depression. In recent years, MBC has increasingly transitioned to web-based spaces in the form of digital mental health interventions (DMHIs), which render high-quality mental health care more accessible nationwide. Although extant research is promising, the emergence of MBC DMHIs means that much is unknown regarding their effectiveness as a treatment for anxiety and depression, particularly among children and adolescents. Objective: This study uses preliminary data from children and adolescents participating in an MBC DMHI administered by Bend Health Inc, a mental health care provider that uses a collaborative care model to assess changes in anxiety and depressive symptoms during participation in the MBC DMHI. Methods: Caregivers of children and adolescents participating in Bend Health Inc for anxiety or depressive symptoms reported measures of their children's symptoms every 30 days throughout the duration of participation in Bend Health Inc. Data from 114 children (age 6-12 years) and adolescents (age 13-17 years) were used for the analyses (anxiety symptom group: n=98, depressive symptom group: n=61). Results: Among children and adolescents participating in care with Bend Health Inc, 73% (72/98) exhibited improvements in anxiety symptoms and 73% (44/61) exhibited improvement in depressive symptoms, as indicated by either a decrease in symptom severity or screening out of completing the complete assessment. Among those with complete assessment data, group-level anxiety symptom T-scores exhibited a moderate decrease of 4.69 points (P=.002) from the first to the last assessment. However, members' depressive symptom T-scores remained largely stable throughout their involvement. Conclusions: As increasing numbers of young people and families seek DMHIs over traditional mental health treatments due to their accessibility and affordability, this study offers promising early evidence that youth anxiety symptoms decrease during involvement in an MBC DMHI such as Bend Health Inc. However, further analyses with enhanced longitudinal symptom measures are necessary to determine whether depressive symptoms show similar improvements among those involved in Bend Health Inc. Background: Dietary patterns and nutritional status during adolescence have a direct effect on future health outcomes. Objective: This study aimed to promote fruit and vegetable intake among adolescents using a smartphone app called MyPlate. Methods: This randomized intervention study was conducted in an urban area of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. We included 104 adolescents aged 13 to 18 years, who were randomized into intervention (n=55) or control (n=49) arms. We examined the effects of MyPlate on fruit and vegetable intake over 6 weeks in the intervention group. Pre- and postintervention questionnaires were used in the intervention and control groups. Results: The control group showed a significant increase in fruit consumption scores between baseline (1.15, SD 0.68) and postintervention (1.64, SD 0.98; P=.01), but no significant difference in vegetable consumption scores was observed before (1.44, SD 0.97) and after intervention (1.55, SD 0.90; P=.54). However, there was no significant difference between scores at baseline and after 6 weeks of using the smartphone app for fruit (1.48, SD 0.99 and 1.70, SD 1.11, respectively; P=.31) or vegetables (1.50, SD 0.97 and 1.43, SD 1.03, respectively; P=.30) in the intervention group. Our findings showed no significant impact of using a smartphone app on fruit and vegetable consumption. Background: Telehealth refers to the use of technology to deliver health care remotely. The COVID-19 pandemic has prompted an increase in telehealth services. Objective: This study aimed to review satisfaction with pediatric care in studies that had at least one group of pediatric patients and their caregivers receiving telehealth services during the COVID-19 pandemic and at least one comparison group of those receiving nontelehealth services. Methods: We searched for peer-reviewed studies published in the English language that compared the satisfaction with pediatric care between pediatric patients and their caregivers receiving telehealth services during the COVID-19 pandemic and those receiving nontelehealth services. Owing to stay-at-home orders, studies with comparison groups for nontelehealth services that took place either before or during the pandemic were eligible. We searched the PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, and PsycINFO databases on January 5, 2023. We followed the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) guidelines. A total of 2 reviewers independently screened the titles and abstracts before reviewing the full text of the remaining articles. The following information was extracted from each eligible study: country, participant characteristics by comparison group, study design, telehealth approach, measurement tools to assess satisfaction, and findings by comparison group. Results: All 14 eligible studies assessed satisfaction among caregivers and pediatric patients participating in video or telephone visits during the COVID-19 pandemic compared with those having in-person appointments either before or during the pandemic. In 5 of the 14 studies, a comparison of nontelehealth services took place before the pandemic, and in the remaining 9 investigations, nontelehealth services took place during the pandemic. A total of 13 studies were observational investigations with different designs, and 1 study was a quasi-experimental intervention with 3 comparison groups for video, in-person, and hybrid visits. In 9 of the 14 studies, satisfaction with telehealth services was higher than during in-person visits. Caregivers were satisfied with video visits for the ease of use and reduced need for transportation. Reasons caregivers were not satisfied with remote care included limited personal interaction with the provider, technological challenges, and a lack of physical examination. Those participating in nontelehealth services expressed that in-person interactions promoted treatment adherence. Only 1 study assessed satisfaction where adolescent patients completed their own surveys; a higher percentage of adolescents using telehealth services reported effective communication with the provider compared with patients using in-person visits. Conclusions: In most studies, telehealth services received more favorable or comparable satisfaction ratings than in-person visits. Needed improvements in telehealth services included strategies to address technological challenges and develop better rapport among the patient, caregiver, and medical provider. Structural racism is the historical and ongoing reinforcement of racism within society due to discriminatory systems and inequitable distribution of key resources. Racism, embedded within institutional structures, processes and values, perpetuates historical injustices and restricts access to structural factors that directly impact health, such as housing, education and employment. Due to the complex and pervasive nature of structural racism, interventions that act at the structural level, rather than the individual level, are necessary to improve racial health equity. This systematic review was conducted to evaluate the effects of structural-level interventions on determinants of health and health outcomes for racialized populations. A total of 29 articles are included in this review, analyzing interventions such as supplemental income programs, minimum wage policies, nutrition safeguard programs, immigration-related policies, and reproductive and family-based policies. Most studies were quasi-experimental or natural experiments. Findings of studies were largely mixed, although there were clear benefits to policies that improve socioeconomic status and opportunities, and demonstrable harms from policies that restrict access to abortion or immigration. Overall, research on the effects of structural-level interventions to address health inequities is lacking, and the evidence base would benefit from well-designed studies on upstream policy interventions that affect the structural determinants of health and health inequities and improve daily living conditions. Introduction: Nowadays, there is promising evidence that psychosocial interventions could be helpful in paediatric oncology. Thus, this review aimed to describe the impact of psychosocial interventions on cancer‐related health outcomes in children. Methods: Fifteen English electronic databases were searched from October to December 2020. Only randomised controlled trials that (1) included children ≤18 years old diagnosed with cancer, (2) evaluated the effects of psychosocial interventions, and (3) reported health outcomes including quality of life, anxiety, depression, stress, distress, self‐esteem, psychological adjustment, treatment adherence, pain, fatigue, and academic performance were included. Results: Ten RCTs were included in this review. Six types of psychosocial interventions (social skill training, music‐based intervention, therapeutic play, cognitive therapy, wish intervention, and art therapy) were identified. The studies were assessed as having low to high risk of bias. Nine of the studies reported significant improvement in at least one outcome measure. But quantifying the pooled effect was not applicable due to the heterogeneity of interventions. Conclusion: Psychosocial interventions could be beneficial in paediatric oncology. Yet, the outcomes were reported in heterogeneous types of interventions and participants. Introduction: Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) can be used as an indicator for the assessment of the health of a country. Without WASH facilities, it is very difficult for the sustenance of health and well-being of the people. Aim: This systematic review tries to bring out various nuances of practices on WASH and their intervention in the South-East Asia Region (SEAR). Materials and Methods: In the present systematic review, searches were made systematically in scholarly sources like Google Scholar, PubMed, and Science Direct to unearth data from January 2005 to February 2020 with a language restriction to English for all the published articles. The literature search was conducted from March 2020 to May, 2020. The full-text articles (accessible) were retrieved from each of the searches and a few of the papers which appeared to be relevant were obtained for review. Articles were included from both urban and rural set-ups. Irrelevant topics and headings were excluded. Results: The area of SEAR has a different level of practice and outcomes on WASH. The studies show that low-quality WASH practices in Bangladesh, India, and Sri Lanka contribute to public health issues. The studies on the health impact of WASH from many countries like Indonesia, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, and Timor-Leste are also found to be inadequate in the maintenance of health. The report mentioned about many diseases like gastroenteritis, stunting, and helminthes infection among many people in the community. The source of drinking water, and drinking water quality needs to be assessed according to the recommendation of studies across the SEAR region. Two infectious diseases recently emerged such as Soil Transmitted Helminths (STH) and E Coli contamination due to inadequate WASH practices. Conclusion: The diarrhoeal diseases and sanitation-related issues are numerous in the entire region. Diverse consumption of sanitary practices and drinking water is seen in India, as reported in one study; whereas open defecation has not been eliminated as reported in another study, where 32% of households are still defecating openly. Health impacts due to the lack of proper WASH practices are still a rising concern. Special attention is required for underprivileged areas like slums and rural areas. This study investigates the strength and significance of the associations of health workforce with multiple health outcomes and COVID-19 excess deaths across countries, using the latest WHO dataset. Multiple log-linear regression analyses, counterfactual scenarios analyses, and Pearson correlation analyses were performed. The average density of health workforce and the average levels of health outcomes were strongly associated with country income level. A higher density of the health workforce, especially the aggregate density of skilled health workers and density of nursing and midwifery personnel, was significantly associated with better levels of several health outcomes, including maternal mortality ratio, under-five mortality rate, infant mortality rate, and neonatal mortality rate, and was significantly correlated with a lower level of COVID-19 excess deaths per 100 K people, though not robust to weighting by population. The low density of the health workforce, especially in relatively low-income countries, can be a major barrier to improving these health outcomes and achieving health-related SDGs; however, improving the density of the health workforce alone is far from enough to achieve these goals. Our study suggests that investment in health workforce should be an integral part of strategies to achieve health-related SDGs, and achieving non-health SDGs related to poverty alleviation and expansion of female education are complementary to achieving both sets of goals, especially for those low- and middle-income countries. In light of the strains on the health workforce during the current COVID-19 pandemic, more attention should be paid to health workforce to strengthen health system resilience and long-term improvement in health outcomes. Sleep plays a critical role in stroke recovery. However, there are limited practices to measure sleep for individuals with stroke, thus inhibiting our ability to identify and treat poor sleep quality. Wireless, body-worn sensors offer a solution for continuous sleep monitoring. In this study, we explored the feasibility of (1) collecting overnight biophysical data from patients with subacute stroke using a simple sensor system and (2) constructing machine-learned algorithms to detect sleep stages. Ten individuals with stroke in an inpatient rehabilitation hospital wore two wireless sensors during a single night of sleep. Polysomnography served as ground truth to classify different sleep stages. A population model, trained on data from multiple patients and tested on data from a separate patient, performed poorly for this limited sample. Personal models trained on data from one patient and tested on separate data from the same patient demonstrated markedly improved performance over population models and research-grade wearable devices to detect sleep/wake. Ultimately, the heterogeneity of biophysical signals after stroke may present a challenge in building generalizable population models. Personal models offer a provisional method to capture high-resolution sleep metrics from simple wearable sensors by leveraging a single night of polysomnography data. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

CCS often wish to have biological children yet harbour concerns about fertility impairment, pregnancy risks and the general health risks of prospective offspring. To clarify these concerns, health outcomes in survivor offspring born following ART (n = 74, 4.5%) or after spontaneous conception (n = 1585) were assessed in our European offspring study by descriptive and bivariate analysis. Outcomes were compared to a sibling offspring cohort (n = 387) in a 4:1 matched-pair analysis (n = 1681). (i) Survivors were more likely to employ ART than their siblings (4.5% vs. 3.7%, p = 0.501). Successful pregnancies were achieved after a median of one cycle with, most commonly, intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) using non-cryopreserved oocytes/sperm. (ii) Multiple-sibling births (p < 0.001, 29.7% vs. 2.5%), low birth weight (p < 0.001; OR = 3.035, 95%-CI = 1.615–5.706), and preterm birth (p < 0.001; OR = 2.499, 95%-CI = 1.401–4.459) occurred significantly more often in survivor offspring following ART utilisation than in spontaneously conceived children. ART did not increase the prevalence of childhood cancer, congenital malformations or heart defects. (iii) These outcomes had similar prevalences in the sibling population. The IMPRoving Exposure aSSessment Methodologies for Epidemiological Studies on Pesticides (IMPRESS) project (http://www.impress-project.org/) aimed to further the understanding of the performance of pesticide exposure assessment methods (EAMs). To achieve this the IMPRESS project used two approaches to assess EAM performance, using existing and newly collected data from five studies from three different countries and use of published secondary data to undertake three meta -analyses for selected chronic health outcomes. Based on the findings of the IMPRESS project we provide in this paper insights on the overarching research question "How can exposure assessments for pesticides in epidemiological studies be improved"? Exposure assessment is a critical component of pesticide epidemiological studies. EAMs used and epidemiological practices employed need to reflect the changing nature and complexities of pesticide exposure in various occupational settings. To properly assess the association between exposure and selected health outcomes, the choice of EAM should provide a clear exposure contrast within the study population. Acquiring a practical understanding of the pesticide use practices is crucial to determine whether factors such as frequency or intensity of exposure have to be considered in planned analyses. Biomonitoring may be more beneficially applied intensively in a focussed exposure assessment analysis of a particular cohort, which can be used to determine the most relevant exposure factors within that cohort-specific context. Overall, improving pesticide exposure assessment in epidemiological studies requires a multi-disciplinary approach. A next step for the wider scientific community may be to consider the development of a decision tree to aid the selection of suitable EAMs. Such a decision tree would need to consider and be based on multiple parameters including, but not limited to, study type, health endpoint, socio-demographic context, farming system, pesticide used, and application methods. To explore the relationship between health coaches' responses to emotional cues/concerns and women's subsequent engagement with the health coaching mHealth platform. 24 face-to-face video-mediated initial conversations between participants and their health coaches were coded using the VR-CoDES-P method. Women with high risk of developing Gestational Diabetes Mellitus were selected from the study, based on their engagement with the smartphone health coaching platform. 12 women with very low engagement and 12 women with high engagement were identified. In interactions with women with high goal engagement, coaches had significantly more counseling codes with prior other codes and no instances of non-explicit response codes that reduce space for further disclosure. Analysis showed that interactions with women with high goal engagement were more frequently met by the coach with affect-acknowledging and empathic responses prior to the counseling speech act. High goal engagement among women with Gestational Diabetes Mellitus may appear to be associated with coaches facilitating the frequent use of empathy. People with disabilities are often subject to intersecting layers of social and economic disadvantage and other barriers that drive health inequity. As a result, they frequently experience worse health than people without disabilities, beyond the direct effects of their health condition or impairment. The aim of this overview of systematic reviews was to summarise the evidence on the impact of socio‐environmental factors (i.e. social, physical or attitudinal) on the health outcomes of disabled people. A systematic search of five databases (MEDLINE, PsycINFO, Embase, CINAHL and Scopus) for English‐language articles from January 2000 to April 2021 was conducted. Abstracts were screened by two reviewers and reviews were critically appraised. Key data were extracted by topic, population, disability type, critical appraisal method, socio‐environmental themes and health outcomes. There were 23 systematic reviews identified examining adult (60.9%) or child and young (8.7%) disabled people, with 30.4% not specifying an age range. Reviews examined people with neurological or physical (39.1%), intellectual (17.4%), sensory (8.7%) or a range of (34.8%) disabilities. Three key health outcomes (i.e. access to healthcare, health‐promoting behaviour and care quality) and several recurring socio‐environmental themes related to the health outcomes of disabled people were identified. Disabled people encounter common social, physical and attitudinal factors that hinder their health outcomes in terms of access to services and quality healthcare. Many preventive health services were identified as either inaccessible or not meeting the needs of disabled people. Background: It remains crucial to understand socio-demographic determinants of COVID-19 infection to improve access to care and recovery rates from the disease. This study aimed to investigate the urban and sub-urban disparities associated with COVID-19 in patients visiting healthcare facilities in the province of Tehran, Iran.Methods: Data from 234 418 patients who were diagnosed with COVID-19 infection from March 2020 to March 2021 in the province of Tehran were used in this analysis. Descriptive statistics were used to describe the characteristics of the study population. Chi-Squared test was applied to examine the association of study variables with residing area. Independent samples t-test was performed to compare mean age of patients in urban and sub-urban areas. Multiple Logistic Regression model was applied to examine the association of study variables with disease outcome.Results: Overall, most patients resided in the urban settings (73%). Mean age of patients was significantly lower in sub-urban areas compared to their counterparts in urban settings (49 ± 23.1 years versus 53 ± 21.1 years, P < 0.001). Positive PCR test results were more common in urban areas (48.5% versus 41.3%, P < 0.001). Yet, sub-urban settings had higher rates of positive chest CT scan reports (62.8% versus 53.4%, P < 0.001). After accounting for age and sex covariates, residing in urban areas was associated with higher likelihood of being admitted to an ICU (OR = 1.27, CI: 1.240-1.305). Yet, a greater vulnerability to fatal outcome of COVID-19 infection was shown in patients living in sub-urban areas (OR = 1.13, CI: 1.105-1.175).Conclusions: This study revealed a clear disparity in the health outcome of patients infected with COVID-19 between urban and sub-urban areas. Mathematical models, to extrapolate health status over a lifetime from cross-sectional data, can be used to investigate long term health outcomes among stroke survivors. This study aimed to estimate the health outcomes of ischemic stroke (IS) and intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) at each survival time point. Methods: The cohort of 5391 patients with IS and ICH stroke, registered at Ramathibodi Hospital from 2005 to 2013, were followed up regarding survival status until 2016 with the National Mortality Registry. Survival functions were extrapolated over 50 years to age- and sex-matched referents simulated from the national data of the Thailand National Health Statistic Office. From July to December 2016, the EuroQoL 5-dimension questionnaire was used to measure quality of life (QoL) among 300 consecutive, cross-sectional subsamples. The survival functions were then adjusted by the utility values of QoL for the stroke cohort to estimate quality adjusted life expectancy (QALE). Results: The average health utility values were lower in the initial months, then slowly increased to stable levels. However, male stroke survivors presented higher health utility than females. Throughout lifetime estimation, patients with IS stroke exhibit better health outcomes than those with ICH [10.27 vs. 7.74 quality-adjusted life years (QALYs)]. Patients with ICH presented a significantly decreased QoL than patients with IS (16.15 and 8.41 QALYs). Exposure to volatile organic compounds (VOCs) indoors is thought to be associated with several adverse health effects. However, we still lack concentration–response (C‐R) relationships between VOC levels in civil buildings and various health outcomes. For this paper, we conducted a systematic review and meta‐analysis of observational studies to summarize related associations and C‐R relationships. Four databases were searched to collect all relevant studies published between January 1980 and December 2017. A total of 39 studies were identified in the systematic review, and 32 of these were included in the meta‐analysis. We found that the pooled relative risk (RR) for leukemia was 1.03 (95% CI: 1.01–1.05) per 1 μg/m3 increase of benzene and 1.25 (95%CI: 1.14–1.37) per 0.1 μg/m3 increase of butadiene. The pooled RRs for asthma were 1.08 (95% CI: 1.02–1.14), 1.02 (95% CI: 1.00–1.04), and 1.04 (95% CI: 1.02–1.06) per 1 μg/m3 increase of benzene, toluene, and p‐dichlorobenzene, respectively. The pooled RR for low birth weight was 1.12 (95% CI: 1.05–1.19) per 1 μg/m3 increase of benzene. Our findings provide robust evidence for associations between benzene and leukemia, asthma, and low birth weight, as well as for health effects of some other VOCs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Issues Non‐medical prescription opioid use (NMPOU) contributes substantially to the global burden of morbidity. However, no systematic assessment of the scientific literature on the associations between NMPOU and health outcomes has yet been undertaken. Approach: We undertook a systematic review evaluating health outcomes related to NMPOU based on ICD‐10 clinical domains. We searched 13 electronic databases for original research articles until 1 July 2021. We employed an adaptation of the Oxford Centre for Evidence‐Based Medicine 'Levels of Evidence' scale to assess study quality. Key Findings: Overall, 182 studies were included. The evidence base was largest on the association between NMPOU and mental and behavioural disorders; 71% (129) studies reported on these outcomes. Less evidence exists on the association of NMPOU with infectious disease outcomes (26; 14%), and on external causes of morbidity and mortality, with 13 (7%) studies assessing its association with intentional self‐harm and 1 study assessing its association with assault (<1%). Implications: A large body of evidence has identified associations between NMPOU and opioid use disorder as well as on fatal and non‐fatal overdose. We found equivocal evidence on the association between NMPOU and the acquisition of HIV, hepatitis C and other infectious diseases. We identified weak evidence regarding the potential association between NMPOU and intentional self‐harm, suicidal ideation and assault. Discussion and Conclusions: Findings may inform the prevention of harms associated with NMPOU, although higher‐quality research is needed to characterise the association between NMPOU and the full spectrum of physical and mental health disorders. Background: With the increasing use of mobile technology, ecological momentary assessments (EMAs) may enable routine monitoring of patient health outcomes and patient experiences of care by health agencies. This rapid review aims to synthesise the evidence on the use of EMAs to monitor health outcomes after traumatic unintentional injury.Method: A rapid systematic review of nine databases (MEDLINE, Web of Science, Embase, CINAHL, Academic Search Premier, PsychINFO, Psychology and Behavioural Sciences Collection, Scopus, SportDiscus) for English-language articles from January 2010-September 2021 was conducted. Abstracts and full-text were screened by two reviewers and each article critically appraised. Key information was extracted by population characteristics, age and sample size, follow-up time period(s), type of EMA tools, physical health or pain outcome(s), psychological health outcome(s), general health or social outcome(s), and facilitators or barriers of EMA methods. Narrative synthesis was undertaken to identify key EMA facilitator and barrier themes.Results: There were 29 articles using data from 25 unique studies. Almost all (84.0%) were prospective cohort studies and 11 (44.0%) were EMA feasibility trials with an injured cohort. Traumatic and acquired brain injuries and concussion (64.0%) were the most common injuries examined. The most common EMA type was interval (40.0%). There were 10 key facilitator themes (e.g. feasibility, ecological validity, compliance) and 10 key barrier themes (e.g. complex technology, response consistency, ability to capture a participant's full experience, compliance decline) identified in studies using EMA to examine health outcomes post-injury.Conclusions: This review highlighted the usefulness of EMA to capture ecologically valid participant responses of their experiences post-injury. Introduction: Many trans women of color communities experience high HIV seroprevalence, extreme poverty, high rates of victimization and substance use, and poor mental health. Greater knowledge of trans women of color social capital may contribute toward more effective services for this marginalized population. Methods: These data come from a mixed-methods study that examined trans/gender-variant people of color who attended transgender support groups at harm reduction programs in NYC. The study was conducted from 2011 to 12, total N = 34. The qualitative portion was derived from six focus group interviews. Results: Two support groups stood out as exhibiting very strong alternative kinship structures. One group was comprised of immigrant trans Latinas, and the other group were trans women of African descent living with HIV. Both groups demonstrated ample cultivation of "trust capital" in the form of "thick trust" (bonding capital) and "thin trust" (bridging/linking capital) both inside and outside/beyond the support groups. Thick trust included the cultivation of intimacy, support in primary romantic relationships, and community leadership. Thin trust included networking with a variety of organizations, increased educational opportunities, and cultural production. Discussion: Participants "opened up to social capital" through the process of trusting as a series of (1) risks; (2) vulnerabilities; and (3) reciprocities. A solid foundation of thick trust resulted in a social, psychological, and emotional "base." Upon this foundation, thin trust was operationalized resulting in positive material, economic, and quality-of-life outcomes, leading to an expanded space of capabilities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the context of chronic diseases, drug treatment is often long-term, perhaps even lifelong. Although in therapeutic terms the hygienic-dietary regime is very important, the importance of diet is still neglected by the patient. Diet and lifestyle have a special role in maintaining health, longevity and treating various ailments. It is known that a large part of adults between the ages of 20-70 suffer from obesity and that according to the data provided by the WHO, the main causes of mortality in the world are related to unhealthy eating, 14 million deaths are caused annually by an unbalanced diet globally. In this context, the population of Romania mainly has an unhealthy diet based on an increased intake of saturated fats, carbohydrates and protein and an insufficient intake of vitamins, minerals and enzymes from fruits, vegetables and seeds. The 62-year-old CV patient from Constanţa presented herself at the nutrition clinic for being overweight, having several chronic conditions. Through an appropriate and customized diet low in sodium, hypoprotein and hypocaloric, he managed to return to normal weight and significantly alleviates all the chronic conditions initially presented, together with the return of biochemical analysis results to normal levels, values maintained over time. Background: Moderate and vigorous physical activity is associated with improved outcomes in youth with multiple sclerosis (MS). Physical fitness may also influence disease and health outcomes in this population. Objectives: To determine if there were differences in physical fitness between youth with MS and healthy controls (HC). To examine relationships between physical fitness, physical activity (PA) level, fatigue, depression and disease activity in youth with MS and HC. Methods: Youth with MS (n = 19) and HC (n = 21) completed tests establishing cardiorespiratory-fitness (VO2peak), endurance via 2-minute walk test, and musculoskeletal strength via grip strength (GS). Questionnaires determined fatigue, depression, and PA levels. Weekly PA level was determined by accelerometry. Tests of differences and correlational analyses were used to evaluate physical fitness. Results: Youth with MS had lower VO2peak (U = 279, p < 0.0001), endurance (t = 2.6, p = 0.02), and higher body mass index (BMI) (t = -5.9, p = 0.001) than HC. Higher VO2peak was associated with higher moderate to vigorous PAaccelerometer in HC (Spearman-Rho = 0.5, p = 0.03), but not in youth with MS (Spearman-Rho = 0.5, p = 0.06). Lower VO2peak and GS were associated with higher disability (Spearman-Rho = -0.6, p = 0.03) and relapses in MS (Spearman-Rho = -0.52, p = 0.04). Conclusions: Youth with MS have lower levels of fitness, compared with HC. Higher levels of fitness were associated with lower disease activity and disability in youth with MS. Background: Defining socio-demographic factors, clinical presentations and underlying diseases associated with COVID-19 severity could be helpful in its management. This study aimed to further clarify the determinants and clinical risk factors of the disease severity in patients infected with COVID-19.Methods: A multi-centre descriptive study on all patients who have been diagnosed with COVID-19 in the province of Tehran from March 2020 up to Dec 2020 was conducted. Data on socio-demographic characteristics, clinical presentations, comorbidities, and the health outcomes of 205,654 patients were examined. Characteristics of the study population were described. To assess the association of study variables with the disease severity, the Chi-Squared test and Multiple Logistic Regression model were applied.Results: The mean age of the study population was 52.8 years and 93,612 (45.5%) were women. About half of the patients have presented with low levels of blood oxygen saturation. The ICU admission rate was 17.8% and the overall mortality rate was 10.0%. Older age, male sex, comorbidities including hypertension, cancer, chronic respiratory diseases other than asthma, chronic liver diseases, chronic kidney diseases, chronic neurological disorders, and HIV/AIDS infection were risk markers of poor health outcome. Clinical presentations related with worse prognosis included fever, difficulty breathing, impaired consciousness, and cutaneous manifestations.Conclusion: These results might alert physicians to pay attention to determinants and risk factors associated with poor prognosis in patients with COVID-19. In addition, our findings aid decision makers to emphasise on vulnerable groups in the public health strategies that aim at preventing the spread of the disease and its mortalities. Increasing life expectancy, concepts of patient well-being, and the multiplicity of needs of the geriatric population, demand contribution, and collaboration of physicians, dentists, psychologists, pharmacists, and other allied health disciplines, to provide quality care to patients. Interprofessional education (IPE) is an approach to education that improves collaboration among health professionals and it can aid in better management of geriatric patients. Communication and cooperation affect health care performance and hence, influence patient outcomes. Currently, each of the disciplines mentioned has customized undergraduate and/or postgraduate training in geriatric care. Though a uni-disciplinary educational approach increases knowledge and skills of individual professions separately, IPE offers significant advantages. IPE seeks to have students learning together, as well as from each other to develop exemplary collaborative practice. The World Health Organization (WHO) has proposed that IPE will ensure optimum health care. However, IPE is yet to find its proper place in dental education. It would help dental students to develop a positive attitude toward geriatric patients and increase their empathy and efficiency in the management of these patients. Background and aims: The structured, simplified modified Rankin scale questionnaire (smRSq) may increase reliability over the interrogative approach to scoring the modified Rankin scale (mRS) in acute stroke research and practice. During the conduct of the alteplase-dose arm of the international ENhanced Control of Hypertension ANd Thrombolysis StrokE stuDy (ENCHANTED), we had an opportunity to compare each of these approaches to outcome measurement. Methods: Baseline demographic data were recorded together with the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS). Follow-up measures obtained at 90 days included mRS, smRSq, and the 5-Dimension European Quality of life scale (EQ-5D). Agreements between smRSq and mRS were assessed with the Kappa statistic. Multiple logistic regression was used to identify baseline predictors of Day 90 smRSq and mRS scores. Treatment effects, based on Day 90 smRSq/mRS scores, were tested in logistic and ordinal logistic regression models. Results: SmRSq and mRS scores had good agreement (weighted Kappa 0.79, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.78–0.81), while variables of age, atrial fibrillation, diabetes mellitus, pre-morbid mRS (1 vs. 0), baseline NIHSS scores, and imaging signs of cerebral ischemia, similarly predicted their scores. Odds ratios for death or disability, and ordinal shift, 90-day mRS scores using smRSq were 1.05 (95% CI 0.91–1.20; one-sided P = 0.23 for non-inferiority) and 0.98 (95% CI 0.87–1.11; P = 0.02 for non-inferiority), similar to those using mRS. Conclusions: This study demonstrates the utility of the smRSq in a large, ethnically diverse clinical trial population. Scoring of the smRSq shows adequate agreement with the standard mRS, thus confirming it is a reliable, valid, and useful alternative measure of functional status after acute ischemic stroke. The aim was to determine whether 24-hour urine sodium excretion predicted event-free survival of patients with heart failure (HF) and diabetes mellitus (DM). Twenty-four hour urine sodium, as an indicator of dietary sodium, was collected from 107 patients with HF and comorbid DM. Patients were followed for a median period of 337 days to determine time to the first event of either all-cause hospitalization or cardiac-related mortality. There were 44 patients (41%) who had an event of death or hospitalization. Cox regression showed that higher urine sodium (>3.8 gm/day) was associated with 2.8 times greater risk for an event than lower urine sodium after controlling for age, gender, New York Heart Association class (I/II vs. III/IV), left ventricular ejection fraction, and body mass index. Background: The American Community Survey (ACS) is the largest household survey conducted by the US Census Bureau. We sought to describe the community-level characteristics derived from the ACS among enrollees of Kaiser Permanente Southern California (KPSC), evaluate the associations between ACS estimates and selective individual-level health outcomes, and explore how using different scales of the census geography and the linearity assumption affect the associations. Methods: We examined the associations between track-level and block group-level ACS 5-year estimates and 4 individual-level Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS) outcome measures (comprehensive diabetes care, postpartum care, antidepressant medication management, and childhood immunization status) using multilevel generalized linear models. Odds ratios and their 95% confidence intervals were estimated for every 10% increase in ACS measures. Results: 6,357,841 addresses were successfully geocoded to at least the tract level. The community-level demographic, socioeconomic, residential, and other ACS measures varied among KPSC health plan enrollees. A majority of these ACS measures were associated with the selected HEDIS health outcomes. The directions of the effects were consistent across health outcomes; however, the magnitudes of the effect sizes varied. Within each HEDIS health outcome, the relative size of the effects appeared to remain similar. Differences between the census tract- and block group-level estimates were minor, especially for measures related to race/ethnicity, education, income, and occupation. Conclusion: These findings support the use of many ACS measures at neighborhood levels to predict health outcomes. The geographic units might have little effect on the results. Background: Early-onset dementia (EOD) defines all dementia related conditions with an onset before the age of 65 years. EOD places a large and distressing psychological, emotional and financial burden on the individuals themselves and their caregivers. For various reasons, diagnostic and treatment strategies for EOD are very challenging. There is a general agreement that not only the human body but also the mind benefits from physical activity and/or exercise. Especially aerobic exercise has shown to have favorable effects on cognitive functions in healthy older adults, as well as in patients with MCI and dementia. However, there are major differences in age, physical fitness level and clinical presentation between EOD and late-onset dementia. Therefore, one cannot just assume that the same type and intensity of exercise will lead to similar effects in the former population. By conducting this scoping review, the authors aimed to identify the evidence on the effectiveness of aerobic exercise on physical and mental health outcomes in individuals with EOD, display gaps in this context, and formulate related directions for future research. Summary: There are a number of reasons to assume that aerobic exercise might be extremely valuable within individuals with EOD. However, this scoping review led to the surprising and striking finding that not a single study so far has investigated the effects of physical exercise on cognition, physical performance and feelings of well-being and quality of life in EOD. Although nowadays the disease is increasingly recognized, coping and (non-pharmacological) treatment strategies for EOD are virtually non-existent. Key Messages: Exercise intervention studies in EOD are lacking. With this scoping review the authors hope to inspire researchers in the field for related directions for future research. Background This study aimed to investigate the effect of social participation on income-related inequality in health outcome among older adults in China. Methods The panel data used in this study were sourced from the 2011 and 2014 waves of the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey (CLHLS). Furthermore, this study employed a concentration index to assess the income-related inequality in health outcome. Moreover, this study used the decomposition method of concentration index to analyse the effect of social participation on income-related inequality in health outcome. Results The total concentration index of Instrumental Activity of Daily Living (IADL) status decreased from 0.0257 in 2011 to 0.0172 in 2014. Furthermore, the total concentration index of psychological health decreased from 0.0309 in 2011 to 0.0269 in 2014. The decomposition analysis indicates that social participation made a major contribution to the pro-rich inequality in IADL status. Moreover, the results also indicate that social participation made a minor contribution to the pro-rich inequality in psychological health. Conclusions This study demonstrated that overall there were pro-rich inequalities in IADL status and psychological health among older adults in China. Moreover, social participation made a major contribution to the pro-rich inequality in IADL status, while it made a minor contribution to the pro-rich inequality in psychological health. Aim: Description of the impact of caesarean section on the infant gut microbiome, infant health and solutions to restore the dysbiosis.Methods: We searched PubMed and Google Scholar for relevant articles. Only articles published in English were selected. Separate searches were performed for each topic. We selected 60 articles published between 1999 and 2019 by extracting subject headings and key words of interest for this topic.Results: Caesarean section is an obstetrical procedure that is increasing in prevalence worldwide. On top of the maternal and neonatal risks that this procedure carries, it also induces a dysbiosis of the infant intestinal microbiome possibly challenging the health outcome for the infant. Antibiotics administered during Caesarean deliveries contribute to the development of the gut microbiome. Nonetheless, breastfeeding and several interventions such as vaginal seeding and supplementation with probiotics, prebiotics and synbiotics may contribute to the restoration of the dysbiosis.Conclusion: Caesarean section is associated with the development of an imbalance of the infant gut microbiome. Long-term consequences of this imbalance are debated. Besides breastfeeding, other strategies to restore this dysbiosis need further studies before they can be recommended. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: to evaluate in the literature the effectiveness of the health education interventions in self-care and adherence to treatment of patients with Chronic Heart Failure. Method: a systematic review with meta-analysis. Studies were selected that compared health education interventions with the usual care to assess the outcomes of adherence and self-care. The quality of the methodological evidence was assessed by the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluation system. Results: the educational interventions were more effective in relation to the usual care in the outcome of adherence (fixed effect=0-3841; p-value <0.001). There was no statistical difference in the outcome of self-care (fixed effect=0.0063; p-value=0.898). Background: Posterior EEG alpha has been identified as a putative biomarker of clinical outcomes in major depression (MDD). Separately, personal importance of religion and spirituality (R/S) has been shown to provide protective benefits for individuals at high familial risk for MDD. This study directly explored the joint value of posterior alpha and R/S on predicting clinical health outcomes of depression.Methods: Using a mixed-effects model approach, we obtained virtual estimates of R/S at age 21 using longitudinal data collected at 5 timepoints spanning 25 years. Current source density and frequency principal component analysis was used to quantify posterior alpha in 72-channel resting EEG (eyes open/closed). Depression severity was measured between 5 and 10 years after EEG collection using PHQ-9 and IDAS-GD scales.Results: Greater R/S (p = .008, η2p = 0.076) and higher alpha (p = .02, η2p = 0.056) were separately associated with fewer symptoms across scales. However, an interaction between alpha and R/S (p = .02, η2p = 0.062) was observed, where greater R/S predicted fewer symptoms with low alpha but high alpha predicted fewer symptoms with lower R/S.Limitations: Small-to-medium effect sizes and homogeneity of sample demographics caution overall interpretation and generalizability.Conclusions: Findings revealed a complementary role of R/S and alpha in that either variable exerted protective effects only if the other was present at low levels. These findings confirm the relevance of R/S importance and alpha oscillations as predictors of depression symptom severity. Over-integration of HIV-related trauma into the client's memory in a negative emotional valence could be a serious health debilitating process which may result in negative post-traumatic health outcomes, affecting health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of people living with HIV (PLWH). We hypothesized that post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms are the mediating link between negative event centrality (NEC) and HRQoL among PLWH. Nine hundred and sixty-nine PLWH in Nigeria completed measures of NEC, PTSD symptoms and HRQoL. Model 4 of Hayes' regression-based PROCESS macro version 3.0 for SPSS was employed to investigate relationships between variables of interest. NEC was positively associated with all domains of HRQoL. PLWH who had high negatively centralized identity on HIV also had high scores on PTSD symptoms. PTSD symptoms were also positively associated with all domains of HRQoL. PTSD symptoms also mediated the relationship between NEC and all domains of HRQoL. Assessing and treating PTSD symptoms among PLWH by clinicians could be helpful in enhancing HRQoL. This paper examines whether increasing diffusion of ICTs has the potential to improve healthcare use and access to better health outcome and higher spending on health in 38 low-income countries with a panel data for the period of 1995 to 2015. The panel corrected standard error, and fixed effect Driscoll-Kraay methods were used to account for unobserved heterogeneity and cross-section dependence in the panel data. A healthoutcome index was developed using partial least square based on a structural equation model with SmartPLS (version 2) software package. The estimated results indicate that increasing diffusion of ICT impacts both the health outcome and expenditure, positively and significantly. The association is stronger when the diffusion of ICT takes place in rural areas. Background: Evidence provides inconsistent findings on risk factors and health outcomes associated with loneliness. The aim of this work was to grade the evidence on risk factors and health outcomes associated with loneliness, using an umbrella review approach.Methods: For each meta-analytic association, random-effects summary effect size, 95% confidence intervals (CIs), heterogeneity, evidence for small-study effect, excess significance bias and 95% prediction intervals were calculated, and used to grade significant evidence (p<0.05) from convincing to weak. For narrative systematic reviews, findings were reported descriptively.Results: From 210 studies initially evaluated, 14 publications were included, reporting on 18 outcomes, 795 studies, and 746,706 participants. Highly suggestive evidence (class II) supported the association between loneliness and incident dementia (relative risk, RR=1.26; 95%CI: 1.14-1.40, I2 23.6%), prevalent paranoia (odds ratio, OR=3.36; 95%CI: 2.51-4.49, I2 92.8%) and prevalent psychotic symptoms (OR=2.33; 95%CI: 1.68-3.22, I2 56.5%). Pooled data supported the longitudinal association between loneliness and suicide attempts and depressive symptoms. In narrative systematic reviews, factors cross-sectionally associated with loneliness were age (in a U-shape way), female sex, quality of social contacts, low competence, socio-economic status and medical chronic conditions.Limitations: Low quality of the studies included; mainly cross-sectional evidence.Conclusions: This work is the first meta-evidence synthesis showing that highly suggestive and significant evidence supports the association between loneliness and adverse mental and physical health outcomes.
