Aim: This study evaluated the effect of natural disaster education given to nursing students on the natural disaster literacy level. Material and Methods: The study was carried out with 302 students studying in the nursing department, and the pretestposttest was conducted in a quasi-experimental design with a single-group model. Students were given 120 minutes of "natural disaster training" and practice in groups. The data were collected in two stages, before and after the training, using the personal information form, the Natural Disaster Literacy Behavior Scale, and the Natural Disaster Literacy Cognitive Tendency Scale. Statistical analysis was made using number, percentage, minimum and maximum values, mean, standard deviation, and paired sample ttest. Results: 53.6% of the students reported that they, and 64.9% of their first-degree relatives, experienced a natural disaster. Most of the students had received disaster training before and stated that they wanted to participate in first aid training (26.6%), disasteroriented seminars and conferences (18.1%), earthquake drills (17.5%), fire drills (15.2%), search and rescue (13.1%) and aid campaigns (9.5%). After the natural disaster education, there was an increase in student's natural disaster literacy affective tendencies and behaviors (p<.001). Conclusion: Natural disaster education positively affected nursing students' natural disaster literacy attitudes and behaviors. Students stated that they want to participate in activities related to natural disasters. Accordingly, disaster education should be included in the nursing curriculum, which will play an essential role in preparing nurse candidates for disaster management. Organizing seminars, conferences, training activities on natural disasters, and practical exercises for students is recommended. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
