The municipality of Camagüey has a complex distribution network, resulting from the interaction of the circuits coming from their four 110/13.8 kV transmission substations and the use of load blocks. In this work, an evaluation of the possible combinations for the reconfiguration of the load blocks was carried out to determine the one that is most effective in reducing the electricity consumption of the municipality, by reducing technical losses. The analysis of the distribution network configurations was carried out in the DigSILENT Power Factory software. The validation was carried out by comparing the energy consumed by the distribution network before and after making the changes in the configuration, based on the readings taken from the substation meters. A calculation of power flow of a distribution network is developed. Conventional load flow such as the Newton- Raphson, Gauss-Seidel and fast decoupling, effective for the analysis of power systems at the transmission level, but which may present disadvantages when analyzing distribution systems, due to their nature radial and high R/X ratio. The proposed methodology takes advantage of the radiality of the network, and it is based on the modification of the Nodal Admittance Matrix, which includes the loads in the form of constant admittance. Then, an iterative Jacobi-type process is implemented until it reaches convergence. The code was implemented in MATLAB. The validity of the proposed method was tested on the networks of 7 and 28 bars of the IEEE; compared its results with the Neplan program and other algorithms proposed by different authors published in the IEEE. En el presente trabajo se muestran los resultados del análisis de factibilidad efectuado en las subestaciones del Sistema Nacional de Refinación (SNR) de México, desde el punto de vista de la infraestructura necesaria para monitoreo en tiempo real de flujos de carga y cortocircuito basados en algoritmos de muestreo estadístico y lógica difusa que, una vez implementados en plataformas virtuales, permitirán conocer el estado actual de las subestaciones eléctricas ante contingencias, así como la obtención de escenarios óptimos para lograr la mayor confiabilidad de las mismas e incluirlas dentro del panorama de Smart Grids. This work proposes the optimization of the topological configuration of secondary electrical distribution networks to minimize technical losses produced during their exploitation due to Joule effect, using for this Genetic Algorithms. Through the application of the method to two systems, it was found that the optimization technique is able to find the optimum solution among all the possible combinations that switch operations offer. Its flexibility to adapt to the restrictions of radiality and voltage level in less time than that of exhaustive search is also proved. During the development of the application the genetic operators were validated, determining those that gave the best performance in the search of the solution. The growth of power systems and the market conditions result of deregulated structures have made evident the operative and technical limitations that electric power systems have for supplying energy demand with strict conditions on security, power quality, and reliability. A unified power flow controller UPFC is one of the flexible AC transmission systems FACTS, devices which offer greater capabilities for interacting with operation and control variables of an electric power system, and can be an optimal solution for the additional control requirements on a modern system. This paper presents a mathematical and conceptual formulation for including a UPFC on a load flow analysis, and a methodology for its including on a steady state power flow software. For validating the proficiency of proposed model and methodology, this paper selects a suitable platform system for viewing the expected effects on a load flow by including a UPFC. Every day it is even more important the use of computers for the analysis of electrical engineering problems; it is also important to encourage the application of general use computer tools (mathematical development platforms) in the implementation of engineering solutions. In this paper, a toolbox developed in a free distribution mathematical platform, called Scilab, is presented, which is useful for power system analysis. At the same time, a general description of Scilab and the implemented algorithms in the toolbox is provided.
