Currently, research is being innovated on teaching methods in statistics and probability, however, it is necessary to investigate the learning process on this subject in virtual environments. The European Higher Education Area (EHEA) has required continuous assessment at university in Spain. The goal of this paper is to analyse how continuous assessment modifies the subject’s final mark, to ascertain whether it improves or lowers the final exam score and to determine whether other variables also affect this relationship. To accomplish this, we have created a database with the marks earned by students who took the final exam in the Financial Accounting class at university in the last three academic years. A variation index of the exam score was constructed as a consequence of continuous assessment, and it was analysed both quantitatively and qualitatively. The results obtained from the marks and the index were analysed using contingency tables, ANOVA, regression analyses and a contrast of differences in mean. The main conclusions allow us to state that continuous assessment has an important direct effect on the learning process as well as on the final exam score and the overall class mark, and that other variables also influence them. In this paper we will focus on the effects of continuous and final assessment on students’ final grades. In particular, the aim is to quantify the degree of improvement that the qualification criteria of written tasks entails, and to ascertain whether continuous assessment is crucial for the final grade of students who have passed the continuous assessment process. The results suggest that the way in which the final grade is calculated is crucial for the results. The findings indicate that continuous assessment activities (practical activities in class and submission of written papers) are more relevant for the final grade than the completion of tests throughout the course. In addition to institutional reforms, the construction of the European Higher Education Area has entailed two changes in the educational field, as active teaching methodologies and continuous assessment systems have both received a boost. Our aim is to determine whether these innovations have been reflected in student performance, by using a multidimensional concept of performance that is adapted to the learning society and includes the perspective of both faculty and students, while encompassing both technical and other kinds of knowledge. By taking a sample of 1,276 students at the University of the Basque Country and using ordinary least squares, we observe a statistically significant improvement in grades assigned by faculty. With regard to students' perception, the improvement in the acquisition of instrumental and systemic competencies is statistically significant, which is not the case for interpersonal skills. The rapid technological development in the current world gives universities the opportunity to offer new training alternatives such as teaching through Internet or E-Learning. The E-learning allows to use the potential of the network in the training process and to overcome the space-time barriers associated with traditional education. The experience gained by the department of financial and tax law at UCLM in online courses has revealed that the key of successful in e-learning models lies in the teaching methodology employed to ensure a meaningful learning process in the student, as well as in the correct evaluation. Indeed, the specificity of the online teaching imposes the need to develop resources, materials, tools and instruments for training, monitoring and communication appropriated to the medium used, as well as proper planning of the activities to be performed and high close coordination and flexibility; all with the aim of providing the best education to students. Adaptation to the European Higher Education Area has brought with it important changes to Spanish regulations as they align with those in the rest of Europe, as well as a review of teaching methods. From a teacher-centered instructional model based on lecturers, the development of a model based on the student's work has been encouraged, and continuous assessment has come to play a key part in new pedagogical methods. However, the implementation of this model has had to be done in a context of budgetary constraints. The number of students per classroom has increased, while means and conditions for teachers have worsened. Based on the experience of the first year of teaching the Spanish and European Economics module, taught in the second year of the new Degree in Business Administration and Management, we perform a detailed analysis of the grades obtained by the students. It can be established that the link between the final grade and the overall results on previous modules related to this one is stronger than the relationship between the final grade and the results of continuous assessment. The implementation of the European Higher Education Area in Spain has involved a substantial change in the traditional practices of university education, introducing important modifications both in the teaching methodology and in the assessment criteria. This work presents the experience carried out by the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of Albacete in the subject of Cost Accounting. The paper aims to determine whether the new methodologies used in recent years and the introduction of new criteria for assessment have had a positive impact on the improvement of the students' performance and motivation in the aforementioned subject, which is taught in the third year of the degree in Business and Management Administration (ADE). In order to achieve this, we compared the grades obtained by students during the academic years 2009/2010 and 2010/2011 (in which the ECTS methodology was applied) with those obtained in the two immediately preceding academic years: 2007/2008 and 2008/2009 (where the teaching methodology involved lectures and a final exam worth 100% of the final grade). The findings evince an overall increase in the rate of students who take the exam and participate in the process of continuous assessment as a result of the new teaching methodologies. In this paper, the question is discussed of whether it is worthwhile to devote time to providing feedback to undergraduate Computer Science students before and after they do programming exercises. A comparative study was carried out in two different years of the same course taught by the same lecturer. In the first year, feedback was only provided after each exercise was finished, while in the second year feedback was provided both before and after each exercise was finished. The results confirm that even when the number of students is higher than one hundred; it is still worthwhile to provide feedback before and after each Computer Science exercise to achieve better scores, and a drastic decrease in the drop-out rate, which was reduced to zero. "Quantitative Methods for the Economy and the Company" was a class traditionally taught through conventional lectures leading to a feared final exam as the sole form of evaluation. In the context of the lifelong learning and the autonomous learning, both concepts typical of the European Higher Education Area, it is necessary to encourage the use of selfassessment tools as a complement of the continuous assessment activities. Working with this kind of self-assessment tools, students are able to train and put into practice the different competencies needed to be achieved at the end of each subject or course. This means that students will be better prepared to be assessed not only at the end but also during all the learning process. This work deals with the results obtained in the adaptation to the European Space for Higher Education of an Energy Resources course. This adaptation has been developed progressively in three consecutive academic years. In the first one, the teachers received suitable teaching training and they tried to increase the student motivation, due to the very low ratio of student attending the final evaluation exam respect to the number of students enrolled on the course. The second year was focused on the elaboration of teaching guides and the evaluation of the true student working time. Finally, in the third year, the course was methodologically redesigned and structured in several levels: use of specialized bibliographic material, audiovisual material, small scale prototypes, practical laboratory courses and visits to industrial facilities. The evaluation method was changed to a diversified system based on the different proposed activities and the abilities to be developed. As a result of this progressive adaptation process, a high level of motivation and success rate (89%) were reached.
