- Abstract
Movement areas of urban life are roads, parks, squares and city centres. As Lynch (1960) defines, cities have path, edges, districts, landmarks and nodes. These form characteristics enable to find a way and direction in the city, perform urban activities. These urban components provide a permanent visual integrity on urban identity in the mind. The urban components have various functions, scope and visual features such as cityscape, historical pattern, city squares, central business districts, streets, facades, parks, urban furniture, signal elements, sculptures and ait elements. Urban furniture include benches, lighting equipments, bins, directive signboards at parks and central areas. Urban furniture make the life at urban outdoors easy and they should be designed considering their visual features harmonising with environment. The aim of this study is to research how urban furniture can harmonize with urban identity and life on the basis of the assignments of the students of department of industrial design.
