Productive activities went through an intensive growth, which culminated in global deforestation of huge forest areas. Thus, this study aims to check the current situation of the Amazon Forest and Atlantic Forest. To develop the study, bibliography and documentary research were conducted. The results showed that both the Amazon rainforest such as Atlantic rainforest suffer with the problems of deforestation, the last being the most affected, which has almost disappeared from the Brazilian map. What was observed, was that there is forest legislation in Brazil since 1965, suggesting, according to the current situation of Brazilian forests, that legislation has not been applied. It was noted also that the use of environmental education in schools, could be a decisive factor in a long run, of touching the population for the changes in the situation of deforestation. By raising awareness of the population, of environmental problems, in order to obtain the environmental balance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
