We study the elliptic genera of the non-critical strings of six dimensional superconformal field theories from the point of view of the strings' worldsheet theory. We formulate a general ansatz for these in terms of characters of the affine Lie algebra associated to the 6d gauge group at negative level, and provide ample evidence for the validity of this ansatz for 6d theories obtained via F-theory compactification on elliptically fibered Calabi-Yau manifolds over a Hirzebruch base. We obtain novel closed form results for many elliptic genera in terms of our ansatz, and show that our results specialize consistently when moving along Higgsing trees. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Using topological string techniques, we compute BPS counting functions of 5d gauge theories which descend from 6d superconformal field theories upon circle compactification. Such theories are naturally organized in terms of nodes of Higgsing trees. We demonstrate that the specialization of the partition function as we move from the crown to the root of a tree is determined by homomorphisms between rings of Weyl invariant Jacobi forms. Our computations are made feasible by the fact that symmetry enhancements of the gauge theory which are manifest on the massless spectrum are inherited by the entire tower of BPS particles. The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the racial disparities in health outcomes within our nation. This is especially relevant in the field of radiology where the lack of minority representation is particularly striking. The purpose of this paper is to describe a pipeline program designed to support underrepresented minority (URM) students and provide a model to bridge URMs to careers in medicine hence cultivating health equity. We designed a radiology pipeline program within The Travelers Summer Research Fellowship Program (TSRF) to give underrepresented students an opportunity to engage with radiologists. Participants experience a rich inquiry-based curriculum and completed pre- and post-intervention surveys that measured motivational factors for medical education and interest level in medical careers. 29 undergraduate students participated in the 2021 TSRF Program. The data comparing the pre- and post-surveys demonstrated that the TSRF program played a positive role in sparking interest in radiology, debunking misperceptions about radiologists, and boosting participant confidence regarding medical school applications. We created an interactive curriculum for URM students to cultivate a new generation of radiologists that will reflect and better meet the needs of the populations they are serving thereby mitigating the current health disparities in our nation. • We implemented a pipeline program in radiology for underrepresented minority premedical students aimed at increasing underrepresented minority representation in medical schools and within the healthcare workforce. • At the completion of the program participants expressed a newfound interest in radiology and felt more confident in applying to a radiology residency program. • Our hope is that by creating opportunities for exposure to radiology through pipeline programs that focus on targeting diverse youth, we will be able to increase educational equity and reduce health disparities in radiology. Intensification of swine production can predispose pigs to chronic stress, with adverse effects on the neuroendocrine and immune systems that can lead to health problems, poor welfare, and reduced production performance. Consequently, there is an interest in developing tools to prevent or eliminate chronic stress. Music is widely used as a therapeutic strategy for stress management in humans and may have similar benefits in non-human animals. This study evaluated the effects of a music-based auditory enrichment program in pigs from a multidimensional perspective by assessing psychophysiological responses. Two experimental groups of 20 pigs each were selected for the study: one enriched, exposed to a program of functional veterinary music designed for pigs, and a control group without auditory stimulation. Qualitative behavior assessment (QBA) and skin lesions indicative of agonistic behavior were used to evaluate the psychological determinants underlying the observed behaviors. Physiological assessment included hemograms, with the determination of the neutrophil:lymphocyte ratio and daily measurements of cortisol and salivary alpha-amylase levels. The results demonstrated a positive effect of a music-based auditory program on psychophysiological responses. Therefore, this strategy developed for environmental enrichment may be beneficial in reducing stress and contributing to the welfare and health of pigs under production conditions. The objective of this study is to present indicators of the completion rate at the Center for Research and Technological Innovation (Mexico). The methodology used was quantitative and a statistical study of students' and teachers' completion rates was generated with the aim of establishing a relationship between the two variables. The carnage wrought by systemic racism through social, judicial, and health injustices compels us to work towards a system that is fair and just for patients and colleagues. The evidence that change is necessary in medicine is hiding in plain sight in literature, oral histories, medical records, and news media. Notwithstanding this evidence, changing a system 400 years in the making will require a major paradigm shift. One of the many ways our department sought to catalyze such a shift was through media consumption, reflection, and discussion. Reading and studying literature and humanities in medicine can awaken our consciousness by making medicine an embodied practice that considers the totality of patients' lives in ways that a disembodied, purely scientific approach cannot. Thus, we started a Racial and Social Justice Book Club to normalize discussions about racial and social (in)justice and examine everything through an anti-racist lens. Herein, we describe our experiences in the inaugural year of the Book Club, a space to lend credence and dignity to the voices, experiences, and stories of folks who have long been marginalized by power structures in America, including medicine. Music is a complex stimulus, with various spectro-temporal acoustic elements determining one of the most important attributes of music, the ability to elicit emotions. Effects of various musical acoustic elements on emotions in non-human animals have not been studied with an integrated approach. However, this knowledge is important to design music to provide environmental enrichment for non-human species. Thirty-nine instrumental musical pieces were composed and used to determine effects of various acoustic parameters on emotional responses in farm pigs. Video recordings (n = 50) of pigs in the nursery phase (7–9 week old) were gathered and emotional responses induced by stimuli were evaluated with Qualitative Behavioral Assessment (QBA). Non-parametric statistical models (Generalized Additive Models, Decision Trees, Random Forests, and XGBoost) were applied and compared to evaluate relationships between acoustic parameters and pigs' observed emotional responses. We concluded that musical structure affected emotional responses of pigs. The valence of modulated emotions depended on integrated and simultaneous interactions of various spectral and temporal structural components of music that can be readily modified. There is a lack of clarity on whether pigs can emotionally respond to musical stimulation and whether that response is related to music structure. Qualitative Behavioral Assessment (QBA) was used to evaluate effects of 16 distinct musical pieces (in terms of harmonic structure) on emotional responses in nursery pigs (n = 30) during four periods: "habituation", "treatments", "breaks" and "final". Data were evaluated using Principal component analysis (PCA). Two principal components (PC) were considered in the analysis: PC1, characterized as a positive emotions index, included the emotional responses content, playful, sociable, and happy, whereas PC2, characterized as a negative emotions index, included fearful, inquisitive, and uneasy with positive loadings, and relaxed and calm with negative loadings. Musical stimulation (treatment) increased (P < 0.01) both emotional indices, compared to other periods and this response was influenced by harmonic characteristics of the music. We concluded that pigs have a wide variety of emotional responses, with different affective states related to the music structure used, providing evidence of its potential use as environmental enrichment for this species. The article presents a characterization of the industrial chicken production systems in the department of Santander, Colombia. 79 poultry farms located in 4 provinces were analyzed and it was found that there is variation in the adoption of technologies, with soft technologies being the most frequent. The department of Santander has a low technological adoption index in the poultry sector, which suggests the need to evaluate its effect on productive results. [Extracted from the article]
