Liver condemnation for fasciolosis is based on macroscopic aspect of fibrosis, however, Brachiaria spp. poisoning also causes fibrosis. The objective was to evaluate microscopic aspects of liver condemned for fasciolosis to verify the occurrence of lesions from ingestion of Brachiaria spp. It has been done a recovery of archive between 2008 and 2012 from registers of Laboratório de Patologia Animal from Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo. A hundred samples were recovered and evaluated. Mann-Whitney test was used with probability level of 5%. All samples revealed periductal fibrosis and cholangitis. Foamy macrophages containing crystals were verified in 17 samples, but there was no significant difference related to these cells and periductal fibrosis or cholangitis (P>0,05). Foamy macrophages and crystals indicatives of Brachiaria spp. poisoning were observed in livers condemned for fasciolosis indicating that it's not only the macroscopic lesion of fibrosis that should be used to determine the cause of condemnation.
