This research aimed to create an instrument for assessing the effectiveness of the Programa Mais Médicos (PMM-Program More Doctors), verifying the perceptions of a national non-probabilistic stratified sample of 643 Brazilians. Factor analysis was performed on the scale and the PMM assessment data were analyzed using descriptive, bivariate and multivariate statistics. The Principal Components method, indicating best psychometric values and theoretical explanation, with varimax rotation, structured the 35 items of dichotomous scale into 2 factors, which explain 56.92% of the total variance: "Structural and organizational aspects of the Programa Mais Médicos" (α = 0.96) and "The role of doctors in the Programa Mais Médicos" (α = 0.74). It is also contemplated that the effectiveness of PMM was negatively assessed. These findings reveal that the instrument is useful for evaluation of PMM, still short of instruments in the literature for its evaluation and can be properly used in future studies. Baker‐Gordon formula phenol chemical peel remains the most effective and long‐lasting treatment for deep facial lines. However, this treatment is associated with risk of serious complications, such as arrhythmias and dystrophic scars. With the emergence of new and safer technologies for facial rejuvenation, such as fractionated carbon dioxide (CO2) lasers and microneedling, there has been a decrease in the use of deep chemical peels. This raises the question of whether there is still a place for deep phenol chemical peels. In this sense, we present a successful case of using Baker‐Gordon formula phenol chemical peel at the perioral region for treating advanced wrinkles. This technique is called "Regional Phenol Peeling" and is safer than the use of the formula applied to the entire face, since it does not need systemic monitoring. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Chemical peeling, a procedure wherein a chemical agent is applied to the skin to cause controlled destruction followed by regeneration and remodeling, is a dynamic tool for the treatment of acne, pigmentation issues, and photoaging [Journal of cutaneous and aesthetic surgery vol. 5 (2012) 254-260]. The results and complications are related to the depth of the procedure, with deeper peels producing more marked results and higher rates of complications. Complications are more likely with darker skin types, certain peeling agents, and sun exposure after treatment [Journal of cutaneous and aesthetic surgery vol. 5 (2012) 254-260]. They can range from minor irritations and uneven pigmentation to permanent scarring. In extremely uncommon cases, the complications can be life-threatening. Swelling, pain, persistent erythema, pruritus, allergic reactions, folliculitis/acne, infection, herpes recurrence, hypopigmentation and hyperpigmentation, demarcation lines, and scarring are some of the complications that will be discussed in this article. The first step in preventing complications is to identify the patients at risk. By doing so, complications can be anticipated, prevented, and, if they still occur, treated as early as possible. BACKGROUND Synthetic permanent fillers for soft-tissue augmentation have acquired an important role in cosmetic improvement of patients with facial aging, facial atrophic scars, or lipoatrophy leading to facial defects. Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) is a filler introduced to the market as one option for long-lasting treatment. PMMA microspheres are purified, and the particles are larger than 20 μm. The product used as a filler has proven to be safe, effective, and long lasting. OBJECTIVE To determine the efficacy and safety of PMMA as a facial filler. METHODS Two hundred sixty-six patients (aged 17–72; 154 women) received injections of PMMA to correct facial defects. The number of sessions ranged from one to four, with an interval of 40 to 60 days between applications. RESULTS Seventy-nine subjects (30%) had facial atrophy related to HIV infection, 159 (60%) had photoaging signs with deep wrinkles and atrophic areas, 25 (9%) had depressive scars from acne process, and three (1%) had residual depressions from lupus profundus. The results were satisfactory and long lasting. Side effects were transient. No late complications were observed. CONCLUSION PMMA used for the treatment of atrophy, depressions, and facial wrinkles has been shown to be effective, long lasting, safe, and gratifying to patients and physicians. Most HS-affected patients have stage I (mild) or II (moderate) in Hurley classification, which is consistent with our findings.1 Nevertheless, in our study 85% of areas from Hurley's stage I patients had fistulas, proving that clinical examination alone can underestimate HS and thus lead to insufficient treatment.
