Meckel’s diverticulum (MD) is a remnant of omphalomesenteric channel. It is often asymptomatic but it can be responsible for various clinical complications and variable clinical status especially in children. We conducted a retrospective study on complications of MD among children hospitalized in the division of Paediatric Surgery at the University Hospital Hassan II, Fez, Morocco. The study aimed to describe the clinical, radiological and therapeutic features of MD. The study was conducted over a period of 10 years (January 2009 - December 2018) and involved 18 children (15 boys and 3 girls) aged 1 day - 15 years (with an average age of 5 years) who had undergone surgery for complications of MD. Acute intussusception and intestinal occlusion were the most frequent complications. Other complications included: infection of the MD (1 case) and digestive hemorrhage (2 cases). Two rare types of neonatal Meckel’s diverticulum were described (neonatal occlusion and fistula associated with omphalocele). In no case, abdominal X-ray without treatment, ultrasound and CT scan showed MD. Scintigraphy was performed in 2 patients with hematochezia and it helped to make the diagnosis of MD in one case. Three patients underwent laparoscopic surgery with resection of the MD and intestinal anastomosis with laparoscopy. The other patients underwent laparotomy. Ileostomy was performed in one case, followed by secondary recovery. Patient’s outcome was good, except for one case of anastomotic leakage. Soft-tissue foreign bodies are common in children, particularly in the hands. They are often ignored or difficult to diagnose, especially since they are an organic foreign body causing granulomas with osteolytic lesions and/or periosteal reactions which can simulate infectious lesions or a tumor. We here report the case of a child admitted for hand tumor with periosteal reaction in whom surgical exploration found plant thorn. We here report the case of an 18-months old infant with no particular past medical history admitted to the Emergency Department due to a swelling on the back of the hand which had grown during the three weeks before its admission, without trauma. Clinical examination showed a hard, painless swelling on the back of the right hand at the level of the second metacarpal measuring 1.5 cm in diameter without inflammatory signs (Panel A). Standard radiographic evaluation of the hand revealed periosteal reaction with Codman's triangle at the level of the outer edge of the diaphysis of the second metacarpal, with a second linear opacity next to the metaphysis (Panel B). Laboratory tests were normal. The diagnosis of bone tumor was suspected. Small incision biopsy was performed. Surgical exploration objectified a plant spine near the bone (Panel C) with detached periosteum and subperiosteal collection of shady liquid. Bone biopsy was performed. Cytobacteriologic study of the fluid was negative. Anatomo-pathological examination showed loose fibrous tissue with fibroblasts, with bone trabeculae without signs of malignancy. Background: Domestic accident (DA) is any harmful accidental event that occurs suddenly in the home or its immediate surroundings. Our study aims to describe the impact of the COVID-19 lockdown in the epidemiological and clinical profiles of DAs in children and their management.Materials and Methods: This was a mixed descriptive study, comparing DAs occurring during the COVID-19 lockdown and the same period of the previous year. We exhaustively included all children aged from 0 to 15 years admitted for DAs.Results: The incidence of DAs remains above 50% in both groups. The average age was 7 years and boys were more affected. Before the COVID-19 lockdown, the most common mechanism encountered was accidents on the public highway 20.75%, while during the lockdown, it was represented by falls from a high place with a height of 2 m or more. During the lockdown, 33.86% of patients consulted after more than 24 h of the trauma. Supracondylar fractures and burns remained the most frequent. In all cases, the cumulative frequency of fractures decreased during the lockdown. The COVID-19 lockdown had no impact on patient's management.Conclusion: The COVID-19 lockdown has negatively increased the consultation delay.
