Context: Girls' high school volleyball is a popular sport with a high rate of overuse injuries and sport specialization. Health professionals perceive that high school athletes are reluctant to follow treatment plans involving sport activity reduction. This study's purpose was to describe high school girls' volleyball athletes' self-reported shoulder and knee pain, the likelihood of adhering to medical advice, and the association of factors that influence the likelihood of reporting overuse injuries and sport specialization. Study Design: Cross-sectional. Methods: Participants completed an online survey (demographics, sport participation measures, shoulder and knee pain information, medical adherence likelihood [4-point Likert: not at all likely to extremely likely], and factors influencing overuse injury reporting intentions). A 2 × 2 chi-square analysis compared factors that influence athletes' intentions to "not report an overuse injury" (eg, I thought my coach would get mad; yes/no) and sport specialization (nonhighly specialized/highly specialized athletes). Results: There were 150 participants (highly specialized = 56%, grade: ninth = 33%, 10th = 28%, 11th = 22%, 12th = 17%). At least 60% reported shoulder and knee pain related to an overuse mechanism. Most reportedly did not seek rehabilitation led by a medical provider (shoulder pain = 66%, knee pain = 60%). Only 11% of athletes reported they were "extremely likely" to rest from sporting activity during the regular season if advised by a medical professional. Highly specialized athletes were more likely to report the pursuit of a college scholarship as a factor that influences their intention to report an overuse injury compared to nonhighly specialized athletes (13% vs 3%, respectively, P =.04). Conclusions: Most girls' volleyball athletes did not treat their pain with guided rehabilitation, which may increase their risk of a worse overuse injury or even acute injury. Clinicians, athletes, parents, and coaches need to work together to create a sport culture that empowers athletes to discuss their pain and overuse injuries with medical professionals. Talent transfer has enabled elite athletes to be successful in another sport, with great potential in para-sport. Previous research suggests that similarities between donor and recipient sports may facilitate talent transfer; however, this remains unclear in para-sport. This study investigated patterns between donor and recipient sports' characteristics, identifying the impact on talent transfer in para-sport. An Australian case study utilizing secondary data of 38 Australian Paralympians who competed at the Paralympic Games from 2000 through 2020 was analyzed. Results demonstrated that similarities between sports were not significantly associated with successful talent transfers between Paralympic sports. Understanding patterns associated with successful Paralympic talent transfers offers a foundation of knowledge for designing and developing future talent-transfer pathways and research. Based on this study, it is recommended that sport administrators and practitioners explore greater opportunity for talent transfer in para-sport, rather than limiting talent-transfer opportunities based on athletes' donor sports. Context: Psychological difficulties can adversely affect rehabilitation outcomes and make return to sport more difficult . Identifying psychological difficulties is possible with valid and reliable measurement tools. The purpose of this study is to translate and culturally adapt the Reinjury Anxiety Inventory (RIAI), the Sport Injury Rehabilitation Adherence Scale (SIRAS), and the Athletic Injury Self-Efficacy Questionnaire (AISEQ) into Turkish and evaluate the psychometric properties of the Turkish versions. Design: Cross-sectional study . Methods.· The instruments were forward- and back-translated, culturally adapted, and validated on 248 athletes and 34 physical therapists. The physical therapists of the athletes completed the SIRAS to evaluate the athletes. Statistical analysis included reliability tests (Cronbach alpha and test-retest), exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and correlational analysis . Floor and ceiling effects (< 15%) were also assessed. Results : Confirmatory factor analyses revealed a satisfactory model fit for the RIAI and the AISEQ, and exploratory factor analysis revealed the 1 -factor structure for the SIRAS as in the original. All 3 instruments displayed adequate internal consistency (Cronbach alpha coefficients ranged from .84 to .88) and test-retest reliability (coefficients ranged from .81 to .93). Convergent validity of the instruments was supported by significant correlations between the AISEQ and both the RIAI and the SIRAS. Conclusions : Our results suggest that the Turkish versions of the instruments were valid, consistent, and reliable in athletes who have serious injuries. Scores on these instruments could be useful for evaluating the contributions of psychological factors to return to sport following serious injuries. Context: Wheelchair Power Soccer (WPS) is the only team sport that allows the participation of people with severe physical disabilities who require the daily use of motorized wheelchairs. These individuals may live with chronic pain due to the characteristics of the disabilities and treatments, interfering with their health and limiting their participation in sports. Objectives: To investigate the prevalence of musculoskeletal pain and its relationship with mood in WPS players and to analyze the incidence of traumatic injuries during a championship. Methods: A prospective, longitudinal study was carried out on 30 WPS athletes (93.33% male) with a mean (SD) (range) age of 22.37 (9.79) (47) years. Data collection was performed during a South American WPS Championship lasting 3 days, with: investigation of the presence of musculoskeletal pain and mood through a questionnaire; investigation of the occurrence of traumatic injuries through match observation; and confirmation of the occurrence of traumatic injuries through access to medical department records. Results: About 30% (n = 9/30) of the sample presented some pain on the day of evaluation, with an intensity of 5.67 (3.35) (10) points on the visual analog scale. The most common regions of pain were the lower back (13.3%, n = 4/30), thoracic (10%; n = 3/30), and cervical (10%; n = 3/30) areas of the spine. A total of 46.7% (n = 14/30) reported pain in the month before data collection but of less intensity (2.56 [4] [10] points), the most common regions being the lower limbs (20%; n = 6/30) and cervical spine (20%; n = 6/30). Among the between-group comparisons (ie, participants with pain vs without pain), no relationship was observed between mood state and pain. No traumatic injuries were identified during the competition. Conclusion: The presence of musculoskeletal pain was common in WPS players, but it was not related to mood. Objective: To rate athletes' functional ability and return to sport (RTS) success at the end of their individual, formal, medically prescribed rehabilitation after anterior anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. Methods: In our prospective multicenter cohort study, 88 (42 females) adults aged 18-35 years after acute unilateral ACL rupture and subsequent hamstring grafting were included. All patients were prospectively monitored during their rehabilitation and RTS process until the end of their formal rehabilitation and RTS release. As outcome measures, functional hop and jump tests (front hop, balance hops, and drop jump screening test) and self-report outcomes (Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score, ACL-RTS after injury) were assessed. Literature-based cut-off values were selected to rate each performance as fulfilled or not. Results: At 7.5 months (SD 2.3 months) after surgery, the percentage of participants meeting the functional thresholds ranged from 4% (Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score SPORT) and over 44% (ACL-RTS after injury sum score) to 59% (Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score activities of all daily living) in the self-report and from 29% (Balance side hop) to 69% (normalized knee separation distance) in performance testing. Only 4% fulfilled all the cut-offs, while 45% returned to the same type and level of sport. Participants who successfully returned to their previous sport (type and level) were more likely to be "over-cut-off-performers." Conclusions: The low share of the athletes who fulfilled the functional RTS criteria highlights the importance of continuing the rehabilitation measures after the formal completion to assess the need for and success of, inter alia, secondary-preventive therapies. Context: The purpose of this study was to compare short-term clinical outcomes between meniscus procedures performed with anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR), ACLR (ACLR-only), ACLR with meniscectomy/resection (ACLR-resect), and ACLR with meniscal repair (ACLR-repair) for bone patellar tendon bone grafts (BPTB) and hamstring tendon grafts, separately. Design: This was a cross-sectional study conducted in a controlled laboratory setting as part of a large point-of-care collaborative research program. Methods: This study included 314 participants (168 females; mean [SD]: age, 19.7 [4.8]) with primary unilateral ACLR with a BPTB or hamstring tendon. Patients were divided into 3 groups depending on meniscal procedure (ACLR-only, ACLR-resect, and ACLR-repair). Postsurgical testing included: isokinetic assessment of knee extension and flexion, single-leg hop tests, and patient-reported outcomes. Multivariate analysis of covariance compared differences between meniscal procedures on the battery of tests, and for each statistically significant variable an analysis of covariance assessed the effect of meniscal procedure within each graft type. Chi-square analysis assessed the influence of meniscal procedure on tests' pass rates defined as 90% of limb symmetry index. Results: BPTB: ACLR-only had greater hamstring strength than ACLR-resect (P = .05) and ACLR-repair (P = .005). ACLR-only had the highest proportion of participants to pass the hamstring strength test (P=.02). amstring tendon: ACLR-only (P=.03) and ACLR-resect (P=.003) had higher International Knee Documentation Committee scale scores than ACLR-repair. There was a significant difference in the proportion of participants who scored >90% limb symmetry index on the timed hop test (P = .05). Conclusions: The influence of meniscal repair on clinical outcomes is dependent on the graft choice. Context: Soft tissue mobilization is frequently employed for delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) management. Foam roller and percussive massage are 2 popular soft tissue mobilization methods preferred by various professionals. However, their effects on DOMS symptoms are controversial and there are no studies comparing these 2 methods. The aim of the present study was to compare the acute effects of soft tissue mobilization with a foam roller or a percussive massage device on DOMS in young male recreational athletes. Design: A parallel, single-blinded, randomized controlled trial. Methods: Thirty-six participants (median [interquartile range 25/75]; age: 20.0 [19.3/21.0] y) were randomly allocated to percussive massage group (n = 12), foam roller group (n = 12), and control group (n = 12). First, a fatigue protocol targeting quadriceps femoris was performed. Then, participants received soft tissue mobilization with foam roller/percussive massage or rested for 10 minutes according to their groups. Pain and fatigue were evaluated by a visual analog scale, and the skin surface temperature of over the quadriceps femoris was measured with thermal camera imaging. Evaluations were performed at baseline, following fatigue protocol, at 24th hour, and at 48th hour. Changes from the baseline at 24th and 48th hours were compared between groups. Results: No significant between-group differences were observed at the assessments performed at 24th or 48th hour regarding the changes from baseline in pain (P value for 24th hour = .905, P value for 48th hour = .733), fatigue (P value for 24th hour = .895, P value for 48th hour = .606), or skin surface temperature measurements (P values for 24th hour = between .300 and .925, P values for 48th hour = between .311 and .750). Conclusions: Soft tissue mobilizations applied with foam roller or percussive massage device do not seem to be superior to passive resting in alleviating DOMS symptoms in recreational athletes. Most people with intellectual disabilities have comorbid health conditions, which will impact optimization of sporting performance. Classification is used in Paralympic events to ensure that those with similar levels of functional ability compete fairly against each other. An evidence-based approach needs to be developed for athletes with intellectual disabilities to be classified in relation to their overall functional capacity into competition groups of similar ability. This research builds on previous work using the taxonomy of The International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) to group athletes with intellectual disabilities into comparable competition groups as an approach to Paralympic classification. Three groups of athletes—Virtus, Special Olympics, and Down syndrome—are compared using the ICF questionnaire indicating functional health status in relation to sporting performance. The questionnaire was found to discriminate between athletes with Down syndrome and other athletes, and an approach to using a cutoff score to develop competition classes is explored. Context: An easy-to-administer, function-based questionnaire to assess patients with various foot problems was required for a Greek-speaking population. This study aimed to translate and cross-culturally adapt the Quick Foot and Ankle Ability Measure (Quick-FAAM) into Greek and evaluate its reliability and validity. Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: Established international guidelines for the cross-cultural adaptation of questionnaires were followed. The face and content validity of the Greek version of the Quick-FAAM (Quick-FAAM-GR), as well as the internal consistency and test-retest reliability upon repeated administration after 5 days, were examined. In addition, the construct validity of the scale was examined via exploratory factor analysis as well as by testing for associations with the Manchester Foot Pain and Disability Index, the 12-item Short-Form Survey (version 2), and a functional balance assessment test--the Y-Balance Test. Results: Sixty participants (18 women) with self-reported chronic ankle instability symptoms, with a median (interquartile range) age of 27 (7.7) years, participated in the study. Half of the participants were included in the test-retest reliability study. The Quick-FAAM-GR demonstrated face and content validity. Excellent internal consistency (Cronbach a =.961) and intrarater test-retest reliability (intraclass correlation coefficient ICC[2,1] = .93) were demonstrated, with a comparable error margin to the original version (standard error of the measurement = 2.1, 95% minimum detectable change = 5.9). Associations of the Quick-FAAM-GR scores to other questionnaires ranged from weak to strong (Spearman rho), all being statistically significant (Manchester Foot Pain and Disability Index from -.26, P = .04, to -.67, P< .001, and 12-item Short-Form Survey, version 2, between .41 and .72, P<.001), and to the Y-Balance Test between lower-limb differences (-.35 to -.58, P< .001). The exploratory factor analysis confirmed the single- factor structure of this scale. No floor/ceiling effects were observed. Conclusions: The Greek Quick-FAAM has proven to be a valid and reliable tool for evaluating chronic ankle instability and can be used for clinical and research purposes in Greek- speaking individuals. Children and adolescents with cerebral palsy (CP) show a reduced physical activity (PA) level compared with their typically developed peers. This study aimed to identify potential predictors of objectively evaluated habitual PA using data from a national clinical registry—the Cerebral Palsy Follow-Up Program (CPFP)—and proxy-reported questionnaires. Data from the CPFP database showed that female sex was associated with a lower PA level. Additional questionnaire data revealed age, popliteal angle limitation, Pediatric Outcomes Data Collection Instrument–Sports and Physical Functioning Scale score, screen time, Functional Mobility Scale score at 50 m, and fatigue as predictors. The proposed models can be used for the prediction and early detection of the PA level and consequently for the potential improvement among ambulant/semiambulant individuals with CP. Purpose: The study aimed to compare the effects of home exercise alone and telerehabilitation combined with home exercise in individuals with transtibial amputation. Materials and methods: The telerehabilitation group (n = 24) received telerehabilitation combined with home exercise, while the control group (n = 24) received home exercise alone. Outcomes included the timed up-and-go (TUG) test and the 30-second chair-stand test (30CST), the Activities-specific Balance Confidence (ABC) Scale, the Trinity Amputation and Prosthesis Experience Scales (TAPES), the Amputee Body Image Scale (ABIS), and the Nottingham Health Profile (NHP). The analysis used a 2 × 2 mixed repeated measures ANOVA. Results: The group-by-time interactions were significant for TUG (p = 0.002, F[1;41] = 10.74) and 30CST (p = 0.001, F[1;41] = 11.48). The mean difference (6th week-baseline) was −0.49 for TUG and 0.95 for 30CST in the telerehabilitation group and −0.14 for TUG and 0.13 for 30CST in the control group. There were statistically meaningful group-by-time interactions on the ABC (p = 0.0004, F[1;41] = 14.47), the TAPES-activity restriction (p = 0.0001, F[1;41] = 28.96), TAPES-prosthesis satisfaction (p = 0.004, F[1;41] = 9.19), and the NHP (p = 0.0002, F[1;41] = 16.07) favoring the telerehabilitation group. Conclusions: Telerehabilitation combined with home exercise can offer greater benefits in improving gait, muscle strength, balance confidence, activity restriction, prosthesis satisfaction, and quality of life compared to home exercise alone for individuals with transtibial amputation. Implications for rehabilitation: Exercise helps individuals with lower limb amputation overcome their physical limitations and enables them to use their prostheses effectively. Physiotherapy and rehabilitation after amputation are not at the desired level, and individuals with lower limb amputation encounter various difficulties in accessing physiotherapy. Telerehabilitation has great potential to facilitate access to physiotherapy for individuals with amputation and reduce resource utilization. Purpose: Mobilisation is a common intervention in Intensive Care (ICU). However, few studies have explored the relationship between mobility levels and outcomes. This study assessed the association of the level of mobility on ICU discharge with discharge destination from the hospital and hospital length of stay. Materials and methods: A retrospective analysis of data from 522 patients admitted to a single UK general ICU who were ventilated for ≥5 days was performed. The level of mobility was assessed using the Manchester Mobility Score (MMS). Multivariable regression analysed demographic and clinical variables for the independence of association with discharge destination and hospital length of stay. Results: MMS ≥5 on ICU discharge was independently associated with discharge destination and hospital LOS (p < 0.001). Patients achieving MMS ≥5 on ICU discharge were more likely to be discharged home (OR 3.86 95% CI 2.1 to 6.9, p < 0.001), and had an 11.8 day shorter hospital LOS (95% CI −17.6 to −6.1, p < 0.001). Conclusions: The ability to step transfer to a chair (MMS ≥5) before ICU discharge was independently associated with discharge to usual residence and hospital LOS, irrespective of preadmission morbidity. Increasing the level of patient mobility at ICU discharge should be a key focus of rehabilitation interventions. IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATION: Mobilisation in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is common practice, however studies to date have not evaluated the impact on acute hospital outcomes. Achieving the ability to step to a chair on ICU discharge is an important rehabilitation milestone, and is associated with a shorter hospital length of stay and being discharged home. Purpose: People with spinal cord injury (PwSCI) can experience life changes, including impacts on their physical and mental health. PwSCI often report less life satisfaction and lower subjective well-being than peers without SCI. These challenges and adversities increase the demand on them to be more resilient. Healthcare providers need quick and valid instruments to assess adult patients' resilience in clinical settings. We aimed to validate the factor validity and discrimination ability of a resilience scale, CD-RISC-10, for clinical usage in adults with SCI during hospitalization. Materials and Methods: 93 adults with SCI responded to the self-reported survey, including CD-RISC-10, the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 Scale (PHQ-9), the Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS), and the Intrinsic Spirituality Scale. We conducted descriptive statistics, exploratory factor analysis (EFA), and item response theory (IRT). Results: Two items were deleted from CD-RISC-10 after EFA, forming CD-RISC-8. The item discriminations of the remaining eight items from the unconstrained IRT model ranged from a high of 3.071 to a relatively low 1.433. CD-RISC-8 is significantly related to PHQ-9 and SWLS. Conclusions: The factor validity of the CD-RISC-8 was improved. Significantly, the CD-RISC-8 has excellent potential for clinical usage due to its discriminant ability between low and intermediate resilience. IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATION: Spinal Cord Injury People with spinal cord injury (PwSCI) experience unique challenges and adversities that can negatively affect physical, mental, social, and financial health and life satisfaction. PwSCI with higher resilience adapt to challenges quicker, and have better mental health outcomes and improved quality of life. Purpose.: Plantar fasciitis is the most frequent cause of heel pain. Custom-made plantar supports are a common treatment solution, while the application of kinesiology tape (KT) can be an effective measure to alleviate pain. The objective was to evaluate the effects of KT on the pain of patients with plantar fasciitis. Methods.: Randomized controlled trial including participants with plantar fasciitis. There was an experimental group (n = 17), whose participants underwent a KT treatment, and a control (sham tape) group (n = 17). The pain, measured with a visual analog scale (VAS), was the primary outcome and was assessed daily until the fifth day of wearing the tape and 24 h after removing it. Inferential statistics looked for time, group, and time per group differences with CI at 95%. Results.: The greatest between-group VAS difference was 3.5 points, and occurred at the 2-day follow-up assessment. Then, pain differences decreased over time until the last assessment point. Statistically significant time, group, and time*group differences were found with p < 0.001. Conclusion.: This study supports that KT is effective in reducing pain in the short term in patients with plantar fasciitis, and more effective than a sham intervention with tape. IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATION: Kinesiology tape (KT) reduces pain in patients with plantar fasciitis. Pain is reduced from the first day and the tape can be worn up to five days. Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) contamination is an emerging environmental and public health crisis. Thus, it is crucial to understand public risk perception and communication behaviors surrounding this issue. Guided by the heuristic-systematic model of information processing, this study explores the impact of conflicting information and personal relevance on information insufficiency and information processing. Through an online experiment, 1,062 U.S. adults were randomly assigned to one of four conditions as part of a 2 (information type: conflicting vs. consistent) × 2 (personal relevance: high vs. low) between-subjects factorial design. Both main effect and interaction effect were detected. Specifically, information insufficiency was highest among participants in the high personal relevance and consistent information condition. Personal relevance also had a main effect on information processing. Conflicting information indirectly elevated information processing through increased information insufficiency, but only when personal relevance was low. The proliferation of health misinformation poses a significant threat to public health, making it increasingly important to understand why misinformation is accepted. The illusory truth effect, which refers to the increased believability of a message due to repeated exposure, has been widely studied. However, there is limited research on this effect in the context of COVID-19 vaccine misinformation. This paper aims to examine the role of perceived familiarity with COVID-19 vaccine misinformation on various message perceptions, including perceived accuracy, agreement, perceived message effectiveness, and determinants of vaccination, including vaccine attitude and vaccination intention. Furthermore, it explores the impact of misinformation evidence (statistical vs. narrative) on the magnitude of the effects of perceived familiarity. To investigate these factors, a between-subjects experimental study was conducted, employing a 2 (Familiarity: strong vs. weak) × 3 (Evidence type: statistical, narrative, and both evidence) + 1 (Control: a message about drinking water) design. The results revealed that perceived familiarity with COVID-19 vaccine misinformation significantly predicted perceived accuracy, which was found to be negatively correlated with vaccine attitudes and vaccination intentions. Moreover, statistical evidence presented in misinformation was perceived as more persuasive in perceived message effectiveness, compared to narrative and mixed evidence. Interestingly, the effects of perceived familiarity were not contingent on the type of evidence used in COVID-19 vaccine misinformation. These findings emphasize the importance of avoiding the repetition of misinformation, reducing the processing fluency associated with misinformation correction, and educating individuals on how to critically evaluate statistical evidence when encountering (mis)information. Research has found that vaccine-promoting messages can elicit state reactance (i.e., negative emotions in response to a perceived threat to behavioral freedom), especially among individuals with high trait reactance (i.e., proneness to experiencing reactance). This can result in a lower willingness to accept vaccines. We investigated whether inoculation against reactance – that is, forewarning individuals about potentially experiencing reactance – can reduce the effects of trait reactance on vaccination willingness. Participants (N = 710) recruited through Facebook were randomly allocated to be either inoculated or not. They were then shown a message promoting a fictitious vaccine, which included either a low, medium, or high threat to freedom. Contrary to research on other health topics, inoculation was ineffective at reducing state reactance toward the vaccination message. Inoculation also did not mitigate the effects of trait reactance on vaccination willingness, and was even counterproductive in some cases. High-reactant individuals were less willing to get vaccinated than low-reactant ones, especially at high freedom threat. Conversely, high freedom threat resulted in increased vaccination willingness among low-reactant individuals. Further research is needed to understand why inoculation against reactance produces different results with vaccination, and to develop communication strategies that mitigate reactance to vaccination campaigns without compromising the positive effects of vaccine recommendations for low-reactant individuals. News coverage of the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine grew rapidly in China in 2016 when the vaccine was approved. Drawing upon framing theory, the present study analyzed the content of 491 Chinese newspaper reports on the HPV vaccine published between June 2000 and December 2018 to investigate what and how information and valence about the vaccine was relayed to the public. The results indicated that, while the Chinese media failed to provide comprehensive and accurate information about HPV and the HPV vaccine, they showed a positive evaluation of the HPV vaccine demand and market. In addition, there was a decline in negative coverage after the vaccine was approved. This study extended the literature on HPV vaccine coverage by combining issue-specific framing and valence framing, considering the Chinese-specific vaccine market for presentation and the value of such products, which is rare in previous studies. The way children experience a medical visit lays the groundwork for their health education and fosters trust and comfort in healthcare relationships. This study employed a retrospective and narrative-based design to analyze how children perceived their experiences of visits to their doctor, how they describe their emotions, and how they portray the different relationships within the doctor-caregiver-patient triad. Three hundred fifty students (50.75% female, 8–13 years, Mage = 10.5, SD = 5.93, 77.95% from primary school) completed a booklet comprising different narrative activities. The booklet underwent quantitative content analysis according to gender and school level. Children reported that the doctors primarily addressed their caregivers when asking for and delivering health-related information, while their role was mostly passive. Meeting with friendly doctors and being in a welcoming environment were associated with a positive medical experience, while negative emotions and encounters with unsympathetic practitioners contributed to negative experiences. Most respondents wanted to talk privately with their doctors at their next visit. Some examples and practices are discussed to enable healthcare practitioners to create an environment where children are heard and valued, and their involvement during consultation processes is enhanced. The current study has three main purposes: to examine 1) the impact of theory-driven corrective messages using individual vs. collective frames on information-seeking intention 2) the mediating role of risk perceptions and 3) the moderating role of reflection and gender. Our findings from a randomized experimental study and Hayes' moderated, moderated mediation model show collective frames were associated with high-risk perceptions among women, which in turn led to higher information seeking intention. The second moderator reveals that people who scored higher on reflection were more willing to seek information. Our findings have critical implications for misinformation research by demonstrating the importance of theoretically driven messages in understanding misperceptions as well as people's information seeking behavior. Although talk generated by health messages can spread message content and promote positive behavior change, little is known about what message features may be more likely to prompt conversation. Given theoretical and research support for sequential emotional experiences to increase the intensity of emotion and the extent of engagement with the emotional content – both of which are expected to positively influence talk and persuasion – we examined whether shifts in emotion within a health message influenced these outcomes. In a longitudinal experiment, we compared the effects of two texting while driving prevention messages containing a shift in emotional valence (negative to positive and positive to negative) with two single-valence emotional messages (negative-only and positive-only) on talk and persuasion (N = 333). Results indicated that emotional shift messages generated more talk than single-valence messages because they elicited greater emotional intensity and deeper message processing. These variables also mediated the effect of emotional shift messages on persuasion both immediately following message exposure and one week later, though intentions to avoid texting while driving immediately after message exposure had a greater influence on beliefs and behavior at the one-week follow-up than talk. In recent years, short-form social media videos have emerged as an important source of health-related advice. In this study, we investigate whether experts or ordinary users in such videos are more effective in debunking the common misperception that talking about suicide should be avoided. We also explore a new trend on TikTok and other platforms, in which users attempt to back up their arguments by displaying scientific articles in the background of their videos. To test the effect of source type (expert vs. ordinary user) and scientific references (present or absent), we conducted a 2 × 2 between-subject plus control group experiment (n = 956). In each condition, participants were shown a TikTok video that was approximately 30 seconds long. Our findings show that in all four treatment groups, participants reduced their misperceptions on the topic. The expert was rated as being more authoritative on the topic compared to the ordinary user. However, the expert was also rated as being less credible compared to the ordinary user. The inclusion of a scientific reference did not make a difference. Thus, both experts and ordinary users may be similarly persuasive in a short-form video environment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: To examine the prevalence of dysmenorrhea in the predominantly female nursing profession and investigate the role of occupational characteristics in dysmenorrhea. Background: Studies on working women have mostly examined the effects of dysmenorrhea symptoms on work performance, as opposed to shedding light on the association between work‐related characteristics and dysmenorrhea. Methods: In this cross‐sectional study, we used data obtained from survey 9 of the Korea Nurses' Health Study. The participants were female nurses of childbearing age. Statistical analysis included descriptive statistics and multivariable logistic regression. Results: Data from 6697 participants were analyzed. Of the total sample, 47.3% had dysmenorrhea. After adjusting for confounders to examine the relationship between occupational characteristics and dysmenorrhea, the odds for dysmenorrhea were 1.230 times higher among women who lifted heavy objects at least six times a day compared to those who did not engage in heavy lifting (95% confidence interval: 1.028–1.473) and 1.042 times higher among women with higher physical fatigue (odds ratio: 1.042, 95% confidence interval: 1.023–1.061). Conclusion: The findings clarify the potential for reducing dysmenorrhea through the improvement of work environment factors. Thus, this study may prove useful for developing educational programs and policies that aim to alleviate dysmenorrhea among working women, including nurses. Background: The 24-hour movement guidelines (24-HMG) include screen time (ST), sleep duration, and physical activity. Previous studies have explored the associations of adherence to the 24-HMG with depression and anxiety symptoms among adolescents, ignoring changes in behaviors. This study aimed to examine whether changes in adherence to the 24-HMG were associated with depression and anxiety symptoms among adolescents. Methods: We recruited adolescents from Shenzhen, China in 2021 and followed them up 1 year later. Changes in adherence to the individual 24-HMG were categorized into four groups: persistent non-adherence, adherence to non-adherence, non-adherence to adherence, and persistent adherence. Changes in the numbers of adherence to the overall 24-HMG were obtained by subtracting the number of guidelines adhered to in wave 2 from that in wave 1. Results: We included 12,570 participants aged 9–18 years with 52.2% boys. Compared with persistent non-adherence for the ST/sleep duration guideline, non-adherence to adherence and persistent adherence were associated with lower depression and anxiety symptoms, but adherence to non-adherence was not. Changes in adherence to the physical activity guideline were not related to outcomes. The β coefficients (95% CIs) for each point increase in changes in the numbers of adherence to guidelines were − 0.58 (− 0.69, − 0.47) and − 0.43 (− 0.53, − 0.33) for depression and anxiety symptoms, respectively. The association of persistently adhering to sleep guideline with anxiety symptoms and the associations of changes in the numbers of adherence to the 24-HMG had sex differences. Conclusions: Maintaining and strengthening healthy movement behaviors to meet more guidelines of the 24-HMG, especially sleep and ST, may be beneficial for preventing depression and anxiety symptoms in adolescents. Background: Communication via social networks has different norms than in the "offline" world and broadens the sphere of student-teacher interactions. Facebook is mainly used for social interaction and information sharing. However, it also serves as an education and learning platform. This risks boundary-blurred behaviors between students and their academic teachers in the virtual space. The current study examines the differences in perceived subjective norms, attitudes, and reported behaviors of academic teachers and nursing students' boundary-blurred behaviors with each other on Facebook. Methods: A cross-sectional study was utilized, guided by the Theory of Reasoned Action (TRA), examining attitudes, subjective norms, and reported virtual behaviors that signify blurred student-teacher boundaries. Data were collected among 223 nursing students and 78 academic teachers. The university's ethics committee approved the research (#21.9.19). Results: Consistent with the TRA, a significant correlation was found between virtual boundary-blurred behaviors and attitudes (r =.55, P <.001), university subjective norms (r =.48, p <.001), and peers' subjective norms (r =.47, p <.001). Nursing students' attitudes were significantly (t = 5.81; p <.001) more favorable towards boundary-blurred behaviors (M = 2.40, SD = 0.91) than those of academic-teachers (M = 1.71, SD = 0.83), and so were the perceived subjective norms of their student peers (M = 2.72, SD = 1.15) compared to those of their teachers (M = 2.09, SD = 1.14). Interestingly, the difference in reports of boundary-blurred Facebook behaviors between teachers (M = 1.36, SD = 0.52) and students (M = 1.49, SD = 0.70) was not significant. Boundary-blurred behaviors for teachers were best predicted by attitudes and perceived subjective norms of the university [R2 = 0.62; F(5,72) = 23.31], and for students by attitudes and perceived subjective norms of their peers [R2 = 0.45; F)5,216) = 28.88]. Conclusions: The differences demonstrated between students and teachers may emanate from the perception of the teacher's role and generational gaps. These may lead to miscommunication and the crossing of boundaries. Purpose: Nursing is a representative profession with a high prevalence of presenteeism, which is usually associated with negative outcomes. Therefore, it is important to explore the antecedent factors of nurse presenteeism behavior. This study aims to explore the impact and mechanism of head nurses' cognitive preference toward presenteeism on subordinate nurses' presenteeism (SNP), and the mediation effects of subordinate nurses' perception of head nurses' cognitive preference. Patient and Methods: A cross‐sectional study was conducted from July to August 2022. A total of 256 head nurses and 1424 subordinate nurses were recruited from six hospitals located in Zhengzhou, Henan Province, China. The Nurse Presenteeism Questionnaire (NPQ) and Cognitive Preference Questionnaire were used to assess head nurses' cognitive preference toward presenteeism, SNP, and subordinate nurses' perception of head nurse's cognition of presenteeism. We conducted description, multilevel correlation, and multilevel structural equation models for the data analysis. Results: In the past 6 months, 93.4% of nurses experienced presenteeism. Within and between the team, head nurses' cognitive preference toward presenteeism is positively associated with SNP. The mediation effect of nurses' perception of head nurses' cognitive preference was also significant. Conclusion: Head nurses' cognitive preferences are essential predictors of subordinates' presenteeism. In this process, subordinates' subjective initiative plays a crucial role. Implications for Nursing Management: Hospital managers should focus on head nurses' values to formulate multiple interventions of presenteeism and strengthen communication between leaders and subordinates to promote transforming negative outcomes into positive outcomes. The study aimed to compare the effectiveness between Hiporfin-photodynamic therapy (PDT) and loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP) in treating cervical high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (HSIL). We conducted a retrospective analysis of 104 women diagnosed with cervical HSIL at our hospital from April 2019 to July 2023. With 1:1 matched case-control, 52 cases received Hiporfin-PDT and 52 cases underwent LEEP. All PDT-treated cases received Hiporfin (2 mg/kg) I.V. and a diode laser at a wavelength of 630-nm. T-test, Chi-square test, Fisher's exact test, and Yates's correction for continuity were conducted for statistical. A P value < 0.05 was considered significant. The complete response (CR) post-PDT at 3rd-6th months,10th-12th months and 24th months was in 98.1% (51/52),100.0% (45/45) and 100.0% (22/22) patients respectively, compared to 98.1% (51/52), 100.0% (46/46) and 100.0% (24/24) patients respectively after LEEP. HPV clearance rates after PDT at 3rd-6th months,10th-12th months and 24th months was 76.9% (40/52), 88.9% (40/45) and 95.5% (21/22) respectively, compared to 69.2% (36/52), 93.5% (43/46) and 95.8% (23/24) respectively after LEEP, with no significant difference between the two groups (P = 0.508, P = 0.687 and P = 1.000, respectively). Postoperative complications in the PDT group were tolerable. The cure rates and HPV eradication of Hiporfin-PDT were comparable with that of LEEP in the management of cervical HSIL. Background: The systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) is an effective tool for predicting the prognosis of patients with cancer. However, its value in patients with locally advanced pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (LA-PDAC) undergoing definitive chemoradiotherapy has yet to be addressed. Therefore, we aimed to retrospectively investigate the prognostic significance of the pretreatment SII on the survival outcomes of patients with unresectable LA-PDAC treated with concurrent chemoradiotherapy (C-CRT). Methods: The study included 163 patients with LA-PDAC who had received C-CRT. Using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis, the utility of a pre-C-CRT cutoff that could stratify survival results was investigated. The primary and secondary endpoints were the correlations between SII levels and overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS). Results: At a median follow-up period of 15 months (range: 3.2-94.5), the median OS and PFS rates for the entire group were 15.7 months (95% confidence interval [CI]: 13.4-17.9), and 7.8 months (95% CI: 6.1-9.4), respectively. We divided the patients into 2 SII cohorts based on the ROC curve analysis (area under the curve [AUC]: 71.9%; sensitivity: 68.9%; specificity: 66.7%): SII < 538 (N = 70) and SII ⩾ 538 (N = 93). Comparative survival analysis showed significantly inferior median OS (13.0 vs 25.4 months; P <.001) and PFS (7.0 vs 15.2 months; P =.003) in patients with SII ⩾ 538 compared with those with SII < 538 before treatment. In multivariate analyses, the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) performance of 2, N1-2 lymph node, CA 19-9 > 90 U/mL, and SII ⩾ 538 status emerged as independent prognosticators of inferior OS and PFS. Conclusions: Present results indicate that patients with unresectable LA-PDAC who underwent C-CRT and had a pretreatment SII ⩾ 538 had significantly worse OS and PFS outcomes compared with those with lower SII values. Background: Diabetes management poses significant challenges worldwide, with individuals often facing increased risks of mental health issues, including suicidal behaviors. While traditional statistical methods have been used to assess risk factors, this study introduces machine learning techniques to predict suicidal behaviors among diabetic patients. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the prevalence and risk factors of suicidal behaviors among individuals with diabetes in Bangladesh using both traditional statistical methods and machine learning models. Methods: A cross‐sectional study was carried out with 390 diabetic patients, assessing demographic characteristics, diabetes‐related variables, mental health indicators, and suicidal behaviors. Statistical analyses including chi‐square tests and logistic regression, and various machine learning models, were employed to examine associations and predict risk factors. Results: This study found that 13.8% of the individuals with diabetes reported lifetime suicidal behavior and 9.0% reported past‐year suicidal behavior. Significant risk factors associated with higher rates of suicidal behaviors included younger age, marital status, lower monthly income, higher educational attainment, being insulin users, not having a family history of diabetes, and suffering from anxiety. Among the machine learning models tested, the CatBoost model outperformed others, obtaining low log loss values of 0.45 and 0.32 for lifetime and past‐year suicidal behaviors, respectively. CatBoost demonstrated excellent accuracy rates of 83.97% and 88.46%, significantly higher than those of traditional logistic regression models. The most significant predictors identified by machine learning were treatment type, followed by occupation, anxiety, age group, and having chronic diseases. Conclusion: The findings suggest the urgent need for comprehensive interventions and support systems for individuals managing diabetes, particularly those at higher risk of suicidal behaviors. Machine learning offers improved predictive power and the ability to identify complex patterns in risk factors. Collaborative efforts between healthcare providers, mental health professionals, and public health initiatives are essential for prioritizing mental well‐being in diabetes management. Background and purpose: Fear of falling and low physical activity become prevalent in an aged society, but their association with fall risk warrants further investigation. Methods: Our study involved 600 individuals aged 70.8–96.1 years who completed two rounds of community surveys. During the second survey, we analyzed the correlations between fall incidents and a range of factors, including age, sex, gait maneuverability, vision, comorbidity count, depressive symptoms, cognitive function, history of falls, fear of falling, and physical activity level. The chi-square test and univariate and multivariate logistic regression models were used, with further analyses either adjusted for or stratified by the full-factor combinations of fear of falling (with versus without) and low physical activity (low versus moderate-to-high). Results: Falls exhibited a prevalence rate of 13.8%. A fall risk gradient by the full-factor combinations was observed. Multivariate logistic regression modeling identified independent risk predictors for falls, including the number of comorbidities, depressive symptoms, a history of falls, and fear of falling. Fear of falling and low physical activity presented a synergistic effect to increase the fall risk by two- and one-third times (adjusted odds ratio: 2.35, 95% confidence interval: 1.12–4.91). Depressive symptoms, cognitive impairment, and a history of falls remained as significant risk predictors for older adults with both factors, those with fear of falling only, and those with neither, respectively, when the models were further stratified. Conclusion: Fear of falling and low physical activity presented likely synergism to increase the fall risk. Background: The purpose of this study was to examine the reliability and validity of the Turkish version of the Nursing Activities Score. Methods: To validate the Turkish version of the Nursing Activities Score, a sample comprising 30 adult intensive care patients and 30 nurses was employed. After a pilot study, the internal consistency, Cronbach's alpha coefficient, was found to be p = 0.718. Following the significant internal consistency obtained in the pilot study, the correlation between Nursing Activities Score internal consistency and Critical Nursing Situation Index scores was examined in 150 adult intensive care patients and 150 nurses. Results: The assessment of inter-rater reliability showed a high level of agreement (99%) and an average Kappa index of 0.598 (p < 0.001). Concurrent validity was demonstrated through a statistically significant correlation between Nursing Activities Score and the Critical Nursing Situation Index (r = 0.71, p < 0.001) and multivariate regression analysis (R2 = 83%, p < 0.001). The validity is supported by the statistically significant relationship between Nursing Activities Score and Critical Nursing Situation Index. Conclusion: These results demonstrate that Nursing Activities Score is a valid and reliable tool for measuring nursing workload in Turkish intensive care units. Objective: The study was to survey the current situation and explore the relationship between pain assessment ability, palliative care core competence and palliative care practice ability among oncology nurses in mainland China. Methods: A multicenter cross-sectional study design was employed. Study data were collected in 26 tertiary hospitals among 1198 registered oncology nurses in the oncology department in Hubei province, China. A web-based survey was conducted using a stratified random integral sampling method to obtain data. All variables were measured using standardized instruments. Data was analyzed using SPSS 26.0 and AMOS 26.0 statistical software. All statistical tests were two-sided, with the significance level set at P < 0.05. The structural equation model was utilized to test the mediation effect of pain assessment ability on the pathway from palliative care core competence to palliative care practice ability. Results: The mean scores for pain assessment, core competence and practice ability were 125.68 (SD = 31.16), 76.67 (SD = 19.59) and 67.17(SD = 12.57), respectively. Pearson correlation analysis revealed significant positive correlations among the PCPS, EPCS, and Self-PAC scores of the oncology nurses (P < 0.01). The association between core competence and palliative care practice ability was mediated by pain assessment ability (ES = 0.125, 95%CI: 0.090–0.168). Conclusions: To enhance the effectiveness of palliative care practice, managers need to strengthen the core competencies of palliative care nurses and their ability to assess patients' pain, as these two factors will promote the practical abilities of oncology nurses. Background: Osteoporosis is a common condition that increases the risk of fracture and mortality. In Taiwan, clinical guidelines recommend pharmaceutical therapy for patients with a T-score of ≤ − 2.5; however, Taiwan's National Health Insurance (NHI) only covers these medications for those with a history of fragility fractures. This gap in coverage necessitates a discussion of out-of-pocket treatment options. To address this, we provided an integrated care program with patient education and shared decision-making by nurse case managers specializing in osteoporosis. We evaluated whether education by nurse case managers influences patients with a T-score ≤ − 2.5, who are not covered by the NHI, to choose out-of-pocket pharmaceutical therapy. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed medical records of patients who underwent bone density scanning at our hospital between January 2014 and December 2021. We identified 4,462 patients with a T-score of ≤ − 2.5 who were ineligible for NHI-covered anti-osteoporotic therapy and analyzed trends in out-of-pocket medication use. Since the integrated care program began in 2018, we evaluated whether education by nurse case managers between 2018 and 2021 influenced patients' decisions to pay out-of-pocket for therapy. After the implementation of the integrated care program, we identified 2,910 patients with a T-score ≤ -2.5 who were ineligible for NHI-covered anti-osteoporotic therapy. Of these, 640 opted for out-of-pocket treatment, while 2,270 chose conservative care. After a 1:1 propensity score match based on age and sex, logistic regression was used to analyze the impact of nurse case manager education on these decisions. Results: Between 2014 and 2021, 888 of the 4,462 patients chose out-of-pocket pharmaceutical therapy. Before the implementation of the integrated care program and patient education by nurse case managers (2014–2017), 16% of the patients opted to pay out-of-pocket for anti-osteoporotic therapy. After the program was implemented (2018–2021), the rate increased significantly to 22% (P < 0.001). A multivariate logistic regression model showed that a history of osteoarthritis (adjusted odds ratio = 1.576; P = 0.009) and education provided by the nurse case managers (adjusted odds ratio = 5.044; P < 0.001) were significantly associated with choosing out-of-pocket therapy. Conclusions: Education from nurse case managers significantly increased the likelihood of patients choosing out-of-pocket anti-osteoporotic therapy in our hospital, thereby bridging the gap between clinical guidelines and NHI reimbursement criteria. Background: The purpose of the study was to assess the prevalence and associated factors of major depressive disorder (MDD), generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), and past 12-month suicidal behaviour (PSB) among adolescents in Mozambique. Methods: Data from 3,109 females (aged 15–19 years) and 1,439 males (aged 15–19 years) that participated in the 2022-23 Mozambique Demographic and health Survey were analysed. MDD was assessed with the PHQ-9 and GAD with the GAD-7. Results: Results indicate that among girls the prevalence of PSB was 4.3% (attempt 1.0%, plan 1.9% and/or ideation 3.6%) and among boys 2.5% (attempt 0.3%, plan 0.7% and/or ideation 2.4%). Among girls and boys, the prevalence of MDD (≥ 8 scores) was 15.5% and 3.7%, respectively, and the prevalence of GAD (≥ 5 scores) was 25.0% and 10.3%, respectively. In adjusted logistic regression analysis, among girls, GAD was positively and solid fuel use was negatively associated with PSB, while among boys MDD and urban residence were positively associated with PSB. Among female adolescents, currently being pregnant and "big problem to get money for medical treatment" increased the odds of MDD. While among male adolescents, urban residence, having a genital sore or ulcer, has living children, and early sexual debut were positively associated with MDD. Urban residence, current alcohol use, and early sexual debut were positively associated with GAD in male adolescents, while poorer wealth status, being pregnant, and having a "big problem to get money for medical treatment" were positively associated with GAD in female adolescents. Conclusion: About 3% of participants had PSB, among girls one in five had MDD or GAD and among boys more than 5% had MDD or GAD. Background: Calcaneal fractures are the most common type of tarsal fractures. The sustentaculum tali (ST) offers anatomical stability in calcaneal fractures, and recently, ST screws have been widely used in their treatment. This study aimed to investigate the clinical efficacy and value of ST screw fixation via a modified sinus tarsi approach (MSTA) for treating displaced intraarticular calcaneal fractures (DIACFs). Methods: This study enrolled 64 patients (64 feet): 32 patients in the calcaneal locking plate combined with the ST screw group (CLP-STS Group) and 32 patients in the simple calcaneal locking plate internal fixation group (CLP Group). The minimum follow-up duration was 18 months. Ankle function was evaluated using VAS, AOFAS, and Short Form-36 scores. Imaging evaluation included the Böhler angle, Gissane angle, length, height, and width of the calcaneus, and the Böhler angle in both groups 1 year after surgery. Results: Functional evaluation revealed that postoperative AOFAS and VAS scores in the CLP-STS Group were significantly better than those in the CLP Group. After surgery, the Böhler angle, Gissane angle, and length, height, and width of the calcaneus were significantly corrected compared to the preoperative values; however, the difference in these indicators between the two groups was not significant. Nevertheless, at the 1-year postoperative follow-up, the calcaneal Böhler angle loss in the CLP-STS Group was significantly better than that in the CLP Group. Conclusion: Compared to simple calcaneal locking plate internal fixation, combining the plate with the additionally free ST screw can resolve the limited intraoperative exposure of MSTA, reduce postoperative foot pain in patients, and improve clinical efficacy. Objective: To investigate the effect of the flexion angle of a femoral prosthesis on the postoperative clinical outcome of patients with knee osteoarthritis who are undergoing unicompartmental knee arthroplasty. Methods: Patients were divided into three groups according to the flexion angle of the femoral prosthesis following unicompartmental knee arthroplasty. Group A comprised patients with a flexion angle of the femur prosthesis of less than 5°, Group B included those with a flexion angle of 5° to 10°, and Group C consisted of patients with a flexion angle of the femur prosthesis greater than 10°. The basic clinical data, visual analog scale (VAS) score, Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) score, Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) score and knee range of motion (ROM) were subjected to statistical analysis and comparison between the groups. Results: No significant differences were observed in the basic data of the patients in each group. The ROM and VAS scores for the knee in the first month following unicompartmental knee arthroplasty in groups B and C were significantly greater than those in group A. The HSS scores for the knee joint in Group B indicated superior outcomes in the initial postoperative month and the third postoperative month, as evidenced by the WOMAC scores, which demonstrated a statistically significant difference between Group B and the other two groups within the six-month postoperative period. Conclusion: The short-term recovery of patients in Group B was the fastest. These results provide a new reference for the installation of femoral prostheses in unicompartmental knee arthroplasty. Background: The COVID-19 pandemic generated or accelerated healthcare changes, some of which persist thereafter (e.g., healthcare reorganisation, remote consultation). Such changes entail novel risks for patient safety. Methods: Aim To compare the characteristics of patient safety incidents with harm (PSIH) in primary care before the pandemic and at present. Design and setting Cross-sectional, comparative, observational study conducted within the entire Primary Care Service of the Madrid region with observations at two time points (2018 and 2021/2022). Participants Patients > 18 years of age with at least one consultation in the previous year. The necessary sample size was established at N1 = 2,000 for the first time point and N2 = 2,700 for the second. Sampling was performed by simple randomisation for the first group and by clusters followed by simple randomisation for the second. Main measurements Age, gender, presence of PSIH in the medical record, and characteristics of the PSIH, specifically avoidability, severity, place of occurrence, nature, and contributory factors. Triggers validated in primary care were employed to screen the patients' medical records and those containing any trigger were reviewed by three nurse-physician teams who underwent previous training. Analysis Comparative analysis using Fisher's exact test. Results: A total of 63 PSIHs and 25 PSIHs were found for the first and second samples, respectively. The comparison of the characteristics of PSIH before the pandemic and currently was: avoidable 62% vs. 52% (p = 0.47), mild 51% vs. 48% (p = 0.57), in the primary care setting 73% vs. 64% (p = 0.47), respectively. Although no statistically significant differences were observed globally in the nature of the incidents (p = 0.13), statistically significant differences were found for diagnostic errors, with pre-pandemic rates of 6% vs. 20% at present (p < 0.05). Finally, no significant differences were found in the contributory factors. Conclusions: No differences were found in the avoidability, severity, place of occurrence, or contributory factors of PSIHs before the pandemic and currently. In terms of the nature of these incidents, the outcomes revealed an increase in diagnostic errors (excluding diagnostic tests), which could be attributed to a greater frequency of remote consultations and a decrease in the longitudinality of care resulting from the shortage of professionals. Background: Antiadhesion products are essential for postoperative care in patients after thyroidectomy by providing a physical barrier to cover the exposed tissue and thus preventing abnormal adhesion of adjacent tissues. Since thyroidectomy may result in swallowing difficulties arising from damage or inflammation of the surrounding tissues, the use of antiadhesion agents such as MegaShield® or Guardix-SG® will help reduce scar formation. This may thus improve postoperative swallowing function in patients. Methods: Patients were enrolled and followed up between October 4, 2018, and March 26, 2020. Patients during the postoperative follow-up sessions were randomly allocated to the standard care with Guardix-SG® and clinical trial medical device application group with MegaShield® (test group) in a 1:1 ratio by the permuted block randomization method. Patient performance on penetration aspiration scale (PAS), National Institutes of Health-Swallow Safety Scale (NIH-SSS), videofluoroscopic dysphagia scale (VDS), Dynamic Imaging Grade of Swallowing Toxicity (DIGEST) based on Videofluoroscopic swallowing study (VFSS) were collected. Nonadhesion-reducing agent patient data were used as a control group. Results: No statistical significance was shown (P >.05) between the 2 groups of MegaShield® and Guardix-SG® in various phases from thick semisolid, thin semisolid to liquid for both PAS and NIH-SSS. Several statistical significances were reported in the results comparing various criteria of PAS, NIH-SSS, VDS at different oral and pharyngeal phases, and DIGEST in all 3 stages among MegaShield®, Guardix-SG®, and nonadhesion-reducing agent group. Purpose: To assess the impact of neoadjuvant and adjuvant chemotherapy on survival outcomes, within a large multicenter cohort of Upper tract urothelial carcinoma patients treated with Nephroureterectomy. Methods: A multicenter retrospective analysis utilizing the Robotic surgery for Upper Tract Urothelial Cancer Study registry was performed. Baseline, preoperative, perioperative, and pathologic variables of three groups of patients receiving surgery only, neoadjuvant or adjuvant chemotherapy were compared. Categorical and continuous variables among the three subgroups were compared with Chi square and ANOVA tests. The impact of perioperative chemotherapy on survival outcomes was assessed with the Kaplan Meier method. Univariable and multivariable Cox regression analyses were performed to identify predictors of survival. Results: Overall, 1,994 patients were included. Overall and Clavien grade ≥3 complications rates were comparable among the three subgroups (p = 0.65 and p = 0.92). At Kaplan Meier analysis, neoadjuvant chemotherapy significantly improved cancer-specific survival (p = 0.03) and overall survival (p = 0.03) probabilities of patients with cT ≥ 3 tumors and of those with positive cN (p = 0.03 and p = 0.02). On multivariable analysis, neoadjuvant chemotherapy was independently associated with an improvement of cancer-specific survival in cT ≥ 3 patients (HR 0.44; p = 0.04), and of both cancer-specific survival (HR 0.50; p = 0.03) and overall survival (HR 0.53; p = 0.02) probabilities in positive cN patients. Conclusions: This large multicenter retrospective analysis suggests significant survival benefit in Upper tract urothelial carcinoma patients with either locally advanced or clinically positive nodes disease receiving neoadjuvant chemotherapy. Background: Non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) behaviors among adolescents with mood disorders represent a significant global public health concern. This study aimed to assess the prevalence and identify key predictors of NSSI behaviors in Chinese adolescents diagnosed with depressive or bipolar disorders, addressing a critical gap in the literature. Method: Data from 2343 participants in the Chinese Adolescent Depression Cohort (CADC) were analyzed. The study employed a comprehensive approach, utilizing medical records, clinical assessments, and validated psychometric instruments. Statistical analyses included chi-square tests, logistic regression, and ROC curve analyses, culminating in the development of a predictive nomogram. Results: The prevalence of NSSI behaviors was strikingly high at 73.32%. Significant predictors included female gender (AOR = 2.14, 95% CI [1.70, 2.68]), presence of hallucinations (AOR = 1.52, 95% CI [1.18, 1.97]), borderline personality features (AOR = 1.03, 95% CI [1.01, 1.08]), and childhood trauma (AOR = 1.02, 95% CI [1.01, 1.03]). The study's key contribution is a predictive nomogram with an AUC of 0.74, demonstrating good efficacy in predicting NSSI behaviors. Conclusion: This research reveals an alarmingly high prevalence of NSSI behaviors in Chinese adolescents with mood disorders and identifies critical predictors spanning demographic, clinical, and psychometric domains. Background: This study aims to examine the association for paternal care and father-child screen use with early childhood development and children's temper tantrums. Method: Study file included questions about paternal characteristics, child care, father-child screen habits, and utilized the UNICEF Early Childhood Development Index (ECDI). Factors influencing ECDI-on-track status and children's responses when screen use was restricted were investigated with Chi-square test and multiple logistic regression. Results: The study included 464 fathers having children aged 3–4 years. The findings showed that 89.7% of the children were on track in three out of the four ECDI subgroups. When screen use was restricted, 55.6% of the children engaged in another activity, while 44.4% reacted by crying. Multiple logistic regression analysis revealed that the father's education level, the child's age and gender, the starting age for screen usage, the child's reaction to screen restriction, and having three or more books were associated with ECDI. Furthermore, the child's reaction to screen restriction was related to the child's and father's screen time, the presence of three or more books, the adequacy of care, and being on track in the literacy-numeracy ECDI subgroup. Conclusion: Screen usage habits significantly impact early childhood development and children's reactions to screen restrictions. These findings underscore the importance of educating fathers about the effects of their own and their child's media habits, the quality of fatherly caregiving, and the presence of books in fostering positive child development. Background: Fertility rates have been decreasing both worldwide and in China. Although current policies have been aimed at raising the birth rate in China, their overall effects have been unclear. Therefore, exploration of fertility intention and related influencing factors is crucial. Methods: This study used a convergent parallel mixed methods combining descriptive and cross-sectional designs with a framework analysis. Convenience sampling was used to select mothers of childbearing age with two children (n = 603), living in Guangdong Province, China. Participants completed an online questionnaire investigating sociodemographic characteristics, as well as determinants and attitudes regarding the third-child fertility intention. Correlation coefficients and multivariate regression analyses were used to present quantitative findings. Eleven interviews were conducted, and a framework analysis method was used for data analysis. The results for the qualitative and quantitative study components were analyzed separately and were subsequently integrated through side-by-side comparison and joint display. Result: Attitudes toward fertility intention were negative, and the rate of fertility intention was 10.4% in Guangdong Province. In the quantitative component, women's age, perceived value of having a third child, and attitudes were found to be factors promoting the intention to have a third child, whereas monthly family income, grandparents' health status, and policy support were found to be factors hindering the intention to have a third child. Four major themes emerged regarding the perceptions and experiences regarding fertility intention in the qualitative component. After integrated analysis, younger age, knowledge regarding policy support, and access to childcare support were found to be factors significantly affecting the intentions of mothers with two children regarding having a third child. Conclusion: Fertility issues require continued attention. Our findings provide a reference for optimizing existing policies to increase fertility intentions. Providing policy support, such as public childcare support, flexible working hours for mothers, affordable childcare, and greater psychological support, would enable mothers to improve their parenting. Aim: To translate the Rushton Moral Resilience Scale (RMRS) into Japanese and validate its applicability among Japanese healthcare professionals. Background: To overcome daily challenges in the field of healthcare, in which moral difficulties are routinely encountered, the development of intervention methods to address moral suffering and moral distress is crucial. Methods: We conducted a cross‐sectional survey using a web‐based questionnaire. The RMRS‐16 was translated into Japanese and confirmed through back‐translation. Reliability analyses (Cronbach's alpha and intraclass correlation coefficient [ICC]), confirmatory factor analyses (CFAs), correlation analyses, t‐tests, and analysis of variance (ANOVA) were used to assess the validity of the scale. Results: Participants comprised 1295 healthcare professionals, including 498 nurses. All subscales and the total scale had acceptable reliability values (α ≥ 0.70). CFA supported the original four‐factor structure (response to moral adversity, personal integrity, relational integrity, and moral efficacy), with acceptable fit indices. The ANOVA results suggested that, among Japanese healthcare professionals, nurses and individuals from other professions showed lower average moral resilience scores compared to physicians, consistent with previous research on mental health and moral distress. In addition, women scored lower for moral resilience than men. However, the ICC values for the subscales of the RMRS were below acceptable levels, and the results of the standardized residual covariances also suggested a model misfit. Conclusion and Implications: The reliability, validity, and utility of the Japanese version of the RMRS were generally supported. However, there were areas at the item level that required structural examination. The current findings suggest that there are cultural differences in the concept of moral resilience. Therefore, for future cultural comparisons, the original four‐factor structure was maintained in the Japanese version without modifications. Background: Asthma, a chronic respiratory disease, has been steadily increasing in prevalence and significantly impacts global health. In Bangladesh, it remains a major public health concern. The relationship between asthma and body mass index (BMI) is complex, with higher rates observed among overweight individuals. This study aims to explore the association between BMI, respiratory symptoms, and asthma in Khulna City, Bangladesh, addressing the lack of comprehensive data for this region. Methods: This study was a cross-sectional study. For data collection purposes, we considered Khulna Medical College and Hospital (KMC). Data collection involved a well-structured questionnaire during in-person meetings held from September 18 to November 6, 2022. We selected a total of 310 participants through simple random sampling and performed statistical analyses, including chi-square tests and logistic regression, to examine associations. Results: The majority of participants were aged above 60 years (36.5%), with most having a normal BMI (74.8%) and being male (69.0%). We found significant associations between the prevalence of asthma, age, BMI categories, and respiratory symptoms such as wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath. Overweight individuals showed a higher likelihood of developing asthma (AOR 7.01; 95% CI 5.04–7.11), as did those with primary education (AOR 1.51; 95% CI 1.11–2.95) and smokers (AOR 2.80; 95% CI 1.27–6.15). Conclusion: This study identifies a higher asthma prevalence in Khulna City, associated with older age, overweight status, primary education level, and respiratory symptoms such as wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath. Smoking further exacerbates the severity of the condition. We recommend public health strategies such as promoting healthier lifestyles, improving healthcare access, raising awareness about smoking risks, enhancing air quality, and establishing specialised asthma clinics for effective management and improved quality of life. Purpose: To retrospectively analyze clinical outcomes of patients with "treatment‐resistant" neovascular age‐related macular degeneration or diabetic macular edema who were switched to intravitreal faricimab injections (IFIs) using a "real‐world" treat‐and‐extend (TAE) protocol. Methods: Seventy‐one eyes from 62 patients receiving antivascular endothelial growth factor injections were evaluated before and after switching to IFI. Demographic and clinical data were collected. Primary endpoints were treatment interval extension and presence of intraretinal or subretinal fluid on spectral‐domain optical coherence tomography (OCT) after switching to IFI. Secondary endpoints included best‐corrected visual acuity, average OCT central subfield thickness, and presence of a pigment epithelium detachment and pigment epithelium detachment height. Results: The average treatment interval after switching to IFI significantly increased from 37.6 ± 10.8 days to 45.2 ± 16.6 days (p = 0.0016). At the last follow‐up, 35% of eyes were able to achieve a fluid‐free status post‐IFI. A chi‐square test of independence validated this finding by showing a significant difference in the OCT findings trending towards less or no fluid on follow‐up (X2 [3, N = 71] = 13.0705; p = 0.0003). The average central subfield thickness decreased from 327.2 ± 89.1 μm to 294.8 ± 86.5 μm (p = 0.0294). Best‐corrected visual acuity, intraocular pressure, pigment epithelium detachment presence, and height had no significant difference after switching to IFI. Conclusions: In "treatment‐resistant" patients receiving anti‐VEGF therapy for neovascular age‐related macular degeneration or diabetic macular edema, switching to IFI in a "real‐world" TAE protocol led to statistically significant improvements in treatment interval and retinal fluid on spectral domain OCT. Background: To assess the adverse food reactions (AFR) prevalence in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and in non-ASD healthy controls (NASD). Nutritional status alterations, food selectivity and adherence to Mediterranean Diet (MD) were also evaluated. Methods: The NAFRA (Nutritional status and Adverse Food Reactions in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder) project was an observational, case-control, comparative study conducted at a tertriary center for pediatrics involving Caucasian patients of both sexes, aged 18 months-7 years, with a diagnosis of ASD, and matched NASD controls. Results: From October 2017 to December 2023, 100 ASD patients [79 male, mean (± SD) age 49.9 months (± 15.4)] and 100 NASD controls [75 male, mean (± SD) age 49.8 months (± 17.7)] were enrolled at the Pediatric Section of the Department of Translational Medical Science of the University of Naples Federico II. A significantly higher prevalence of AFR was observed in ASD patients if compared with NASD (16% vs. 2%, p = 0.001), mainly due to a higher prevalence of food allergy (7% vs. 1%, p = 0.03). A significantly higher prevalence of food intolerance and celiac disease was also observed in ASD children. The rate of obesity was significantly higher in ASD patients compared to NASD. Food selectivity and low MD-adherence were more frequent in ASD children (26% vs. 2%, p < 0.0001 and 28% vs. 16%, p = 0.041, respectively). Conclusions: The high rate of AFR, obesity and unhealthy dietary habits observed in ASD children strongly suggest the importance of a multidisciplinary approach, providing early diagnosis of AFR and appropriate nutritional management to improve core and associated ASD-related conditions. Background: This study seeks to elucidate the expressions of lncRNA TSIX in Osteoarthritis (OA) and to explore its mechanisms in regulating OA progression. Methods: RT-qPCR was employed to analyze the expression of TSIX in OA patients classified by Kellgren-Lawrence (K-L) grades. Receiver operator characteristic (ROC) was conducted to evaluate the diagnostic value of TSIX. Correlation between TSIX levels and clinical scores such as Lysholm and visual analogue scale (VAS) score was evaluated using Pearson method. IL-1β-induced SW1353 cells served as an in vitro model. The cell function were assessed by flow cytometry and cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) assay. The relationship between TSIX and miR-320a was verified by luciferase reporting system, while bioinformatics approaches were utilized to predict the downstream target genes of miR-320a. Results: The findings revealed that TSIX level in OA patients was elevated compared to that of the control group, with a notable progressive increase in TSIX expression correlated with higher K-L grades. In OA patients, the Lysholm score showed a negative correlation with TSIX expression, while the VAS score displayed a positive correlation with TSIX levels. Cell studies demonstrated that inhibition of TSIX enhanced cell viability and mitigated IL-1β-induced apoptosis by targeting miR-320a, in addition to promoting Aggrecan and Collagen II secretion. Luciferase reporter assay further validated the targeting interaction among TSIX, miR-320a, and PTEN. Conclusions: This study demonstrated an increased expression of TSIX in OA patients. Background: Turnover intention (TI) indicates an employee's intention to depart from their current role within a defined timeframe. In China, the Targeted Admission Medical Education (TAME) program, initiated in 2010, offers tuition-free education to cultivate rural doctors. Despite continuous professional development (CPD) being considered a viable retention strategy, TI of alumni doctors from the TAME program remains high in recent years. This study aims to describe the prevalence of "turnover intention" among alumni doctors of the TAME program doctors in rural placements, and associated factors that predict high turnover intention. Methods: A snowball sampling method was adopted to collect survey responses from 1,369 alumni doctors of the TAME program in Jiangxi Province, China. Based on the survey data, a binary variable was constructed to measure the turnover intention, and multivariate binary logistic regression models were used to investigate the relationship between doctors' turnover intention and demographic characteristics, work environment characteristics, and CPD activities. Results were presented using adjusted odds ratios with 95% confidence intervals. Results: Among the 1,369 alumni doctors of the TAME program surveyed in this study, 392 (28.6%) expressed intentions to leave their current positions. Of the respondents, 620 (45.3%) were female, and 930 (67.9%) were married. Additionally, 1,232 respondents (90%) indicated that their fathers were engaged in farm work. Strong associations with turnover intention were notably found among individuals who had undergone training at a higher-level healthcare institution for more than three months (aOR = 6.810, 95% CI: 3.333 to 13.909, p-value < 0.001), particularly those who had participated in CPD through a graduate degree program (aOR = 1.818, 95% CI: 1.272 to 2.597, p-value < 0.001). Conclusion: Rural doctors in China from the tuition-free medical education program exhibit high turnover intention, especially those in graduate degree programs as CPD. To retain these highly qualified rural doctors, it is vital to offer competitive efficiency wages aligned with their skills and provide ample long-term career growth opportunities within the rural healthcare system. Aim: The aim of this study was to examine expectations, perceptions and attitudes about dietetics services among the Australian and New Zealand public, to provide insights for building a future dietetics workforce that will meet consumer needs. Methods: A cross‐sectional, anonymous, online survey was employed to gain perspectives of a representative sample of Australian and New Zealand adults. Questions were purposely designed to collect views regarding sources of dietary information, expectations of dietetics service providers and factors influencing choice of dietetics service provider. Data were analysed descriptively and using Pearson's chi‐square test to assess relationships between categorical variables. Free‐text responses were analysed using content analysis. Results: Of 2601 respondents, approximately one third (32%) had seen a dietitian. Doctors were the most trusted sources of dietary information (87%), particularly with participants over 60 years (χ(1) = 44.168, V = 0.130, p < 0.001). Cost was the most frequently reported factor influencing choice of dietetics services (56%), with 88% of respondents interested in accessing a dietitian, preferably in‐person (64%), if they could do so for no cost. Participants anticipated that dietitians would offer services like meal plans (59%) and nutritional analysis (48%) as well as weight and other body measurements (56%). Some expectations such as blood tests (54%) were outside the usual scope of dietetic practice. Conclusion: The results of this study have implications for practising dietitians, dietetics educators, and funders of dietetics services. Objective: Anorexia nervosa (AN) is characterized by a tendency to limit intake of food, with specific restriction of foods that are generally considered highly palatable. This observation raises questions about whether reward processing is disturbed in AN. This study examined whether adolescents with AN differ from healthy control peers (HC) in anticipatory and consummatory reward processing. Method: Adolescents with AN (n = 71) and HC (n = 41) completed the Temporal Experience of Pleasure Scale (TEPS). The TEPS Anticipatory Pleasure scale was divided into two further subscales (Food and Non‐food). Anticipatory (Food and Non‐food) and Consummatory Pleasure (Non‐food) scores were compared between adolescents with AN and HC using independent t‐tests. Results: TEPS scores were significantly lower among adolescents with AN than HC in Anticipatory Pleasure Food (t(110) = 7.80, p < 0.001) and Non‐food (t(110) = 4.36, p < 0.001), and Consummatory Pleasure (t(110) = 2.60, p = 0.01) subscales. When controlling for BDI score, there was no significant group difference in TEPS Consummatory Pleasure scores (t(108) = 0.88, p = 0.38). Among adolescents with AN, Food Anticipatory Pleasure was significantly negatively correlated with all EDE‐Q subscales and global score (r(68) = −0.38, p = 0.002) and positively correlated with food intake at a laboratory buffet meal (r(61) = 0.53, p < 0.001). Discussion: Measures of both anticipatory and consummatory reward were reduced among adolescents with AN with a short duration of illness. In this study, eating disorder symptoms were related to diminished reward responses in anticipation of food. Dampened anticipatory reward response may comprise a mechanism of illness in AN that should be subject to further study. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
