Using critical media theories of framing, propaganda and agenda-setting that intersect, the author attempts to unravel the links between counterinsurgency (COIN) and media in India-administered Kashmir against the backdrop of a post-neo-liberal framework as an example of hegemony armoured by coercion. The author will reframe COIN as a state response to a people's movement for self-determination. An analysis of the effects of the post-neo-liberal framework on the governing class that enacts COIN strategies through the media will not only illuminate the machinations of the media but will also unravel its social and cultural effects and their role in perpetuating an unjust social order in a contested space. Novel aryl‐ether‐free polyaromatics with different‐sized cationic headgroups tethered to the backbone are synthesized via superacid‐catalyzed polycondensations and subsequent Menshutkin quaternization reactions for potential application as anion exchange membranes (AEMs) in electrolysis. Experimentally, the effect of four different heterocycloaliphatic quaternary ammonium cationic headgroups on the AEM properties, such as the hydroxide conductivity, water uptake, swelling ratios and alkaline stability, is fully explored. Thin films are prepared by spin‐coating these AEMs onto porous polytetrafluoroethylene substrates. With a high degree of quaternization, these new aryl‐ether free polyaromatic thin film AEMs achieved high conductivities and good mechanical stability. The highest hydroxide conductivity of 45 mS cm−1 is achieved with excellent alkaline stability and conductivity retention of 96% after 30 days in 1 m KOH at 80 °C. Due to the polytetrafluoroethylene substrates, the swelling ratios and water uptake are relatively small, which ensured the astute dimensional stability of these thin film AEMs. The combined effect of alkaline‐stable cationic headgroups, an aromatic backbone and a robust substrate led to a promising thin‐film AEM. Herein, a novel, highly branched and photoresponsive polysiloxane is synthesized and studied. The polymer is photoconstructed into a single‐chain nanoparticle loaded with Nile Red and Metformin. Through the photoreversible [2+2] mechanism of the polymer's pendant coumarin moieties, the nanoparticles are de‐crosslinked, and their cargo molecules released. A study of the kinetics of release is undertaken in different solvents, providing insight into the relationship between the cargo's molecular structure and that of the polymer chain. On the whole, this report's study introduces new controlled release and cationic ring‐opening polymerization concepts while providing the first example of a single‐chain polymer nanoparticle based on a photoresponsive polysiloxane. Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) recurrence after pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) is predominantly attributed to pulmonary vein reconnection (PVR). Predictors of AF recurrence have been widely studied; however, data are scarce on procedural parameters that predict chronic PVR. We aimed to study PVR rates and predictors of PVR. Methods: We retrospectively included 100 patients who underwent repeated ablation due to AF recurrence after initial PVI with the CARTO system. PVR was determined during the repeated procedure by electrophysiological evaluation, and initial procedural characteristics predicting PVR were studied, including adherence to the CLOSE protocol, use of high power, first-pass isolation (FPI), and baseline generator impedance (BGI). Results: Thirty-eight patients underwent initial CLOSE-guided PVI, and sixty-two underwent initial non-CLOSE PVI. A repeat procedure was performed 23 ± 16 months after the initial procedure. In total, PVR was found in 192 of 373 PVs (51.5%), and all PVs were isolated in 17/100 (17%) patients. Factors associated with all PVs being isolated were adherence to the CLOSE protocol, a higher power setting, the presence of bilateral FPI, and lower BGI (88% vs. 28%, p < 0.0001; 37.5 W vs. 30 W, p = 0.0276; 88.2% vs. 40.4%, p = 0.0007; and 127.6 Ω vs. 136.6 Ω, p = 0.0027, respectively). In initial procedures with adherence to the CLOSE protocol, the FPI rate was significantly higher (73.7% vs. 25%, p < 0.0001), while there were no significant differences in terms of procedure time and left atrial dwell time (81 vs. 85 min, p = 0.83; and 60 vs. 58 min, p = 0.08, respectively). BGI ≥ 130 Ω (AUC = 0.7403, sensitivity: 77.1%, specificity: 68.8%, p = 0.0032) was associated with a significantly higher probability of PVR (OR = 6.757; p < 0.0001). In multivariable analysis, independent predictors for PVR were non-adherence to the CLOSE protocol and BGI ≥ 130 Ω. Conclusions: Our findings indicate that adherence to the CLOSE protocol and baseline generator impedance < 130 Ω during AF ablation are independent predictors of PVI durability. Acute HSV-1 infection is associated with mild symptoms, such as fever and lesions of the mouth, face and skin. This phase is followed by a latency period before reactivation, which is associated with symptoms ranging from ulcers to encephalitis. Despite available anti-HSV-1 drugs, the development of new antiviral agents is sought due to the presence of resistant viruses. Melatonin, a molecule secreted by the pineal gland, has been shown to be an antioxidant, inducer of antioxidant enzymes, and regulator of various biological processes. Clinical trials have explored its therapeutic utility in conditions including infections. This study focuses on melatonin's role in HSV-1 replication and the underlying mechanisms. Melatonin was found to decrease the synthesis of HSV-1 proteins in infected Vero cells measured by immunofluorescence, indicating an inhibition of HSV-1 replication. Additionally, it regulates the activities of antioxidant enzymes and affects proteasome activity. Melatonin activates the unfolded protein response (UPR) and autophagy and suppresses apoptosis in HSV-1-infected cells. In summary, melatonin demonstrates an inhibitory role in HSV-1 replication by modulating various cellular responses, suggesting its potential utility in the treatment of viral infections. Latina Seasonal Farmworkers (LSFW) in South Florida are a community affected by human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) due to cultural barriers, stigma, and lack of awareness of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). Building on the PROGRESO study, this study sought to: (1) develop and pre-test scientifically supported and culturally tailored PrEP materials for PROGRESO and (2) assess the acceptability of these PrEP materials by LSFW who use alcohol and/or drugs. PrEP messages were selected based on a literature review, feedback from experts working on PrEP programs, and recommendations from a four-member scientific expert panel through a two-level Delphi method. A culturally tailored PrEP presentation was developed and presented to sixteen LSFW, who engaged in four focus groups. Materials were modified based on participants' suggestions. Thematic analysis was used to assess the acceptability and usability of these materials in the LSFW community. Participants responded positively to the PrEP messages and understood their importance for Latinx communities. Participants felt empowered and comfortable enough with the information to distribute the messages to partners, children, and friends with the aid of a physical pamphlet or flyer. A strong cultural context of familialismo and confianza was present in comments made by our participants. This study has the potential to increase LSFW's PrEP awareness and initiation. Future studies may implement a hybrid-interview approach, allowing individuals to self-select into a virtual or in-person focus group. Such flexibility may increase participation and discussion by allowing participants to attend in a format they are most comfortable with, as noted by participants in this study. This review covers the last 25 years of the literature on analogs of suberoylanilide hydroxamic acid (SAHA, known also as vorinostat) acting as an HDAC inhibitor. In particular, the topic has been focused on the synthesis and biological activity of compounds where the phenyl group (the surface recognition moiety, CAP) of SAHA has been replaced by an azaheterocycle through a direct bond with amide nitrogen atom, and the methylene chain in the linker region is of variable length. Transplant physicians should be aware of the immune deviation-related clinical conditions as allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation is widely used for the treatment of patients with malignant and nonmalignant disorders. Neurological manifestations and graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) may commonly develop in transplant recipients. However, overlapping clinical immunological conditions may lead to diagnostic challenges. Aspergillus flavus producing aflatoxins is one of the potent contaminants of raw food commodities during pre-and post-harvest crops. Aflatoxins are the group of secondary metabolites a subset of natural polyketides. Our major focus is on the inhibition of the biosynthesis pathway of aflatoxin by targeting the enzymes involved. Benzimidazoles are known antimicrobial compounds. In this study the sulfur containing benzimidazole derivatives were tested for their antifungal and antiaflatoxigenic activity. The fungal growth and aflatoxin production was analysed in culture medium as well as in the rice. Inhibition of specific genes was studied in terms of mRNA expression and the interaction of test compound with polyketide synthases by in-silico molecular docking. Substitution at the 6th position of 2-(2-thienyl) benzimidazole (2-TBD) reduced the antifungal property of benzimidazole but effectively inhibited the aflatoxin synthesis in the culture medium as well as in the rice from the toxigenic strain of A. flavus. Among the derivatives tested, the methyl group containing 2-(2-thienyl)− 6-methylbenzimidazole (6-MTBD) inhibited aflatoxin B1 most effectively followed by carboxylic group containing 2-(2-thienyl) benzimidazole-6-carboxylic acid (6-TBCA) with IC50 value of 12.36 and 18.25 µg/mL respectively. Molecular docking study shows that 2-(2-thienyl) benzimidazole-6-carbonitrile (6-CTBD) and 6-MTBD occupy same pocket on TE domain of PksA with similar range of binding energy, however the experimental data show a different effect on the biosynthesis of AFB1. 6-MTBD effectively inhibited the AFB1 synthesis (97%) while 6-CTBD could not (39.5%). Data obtained from the expression study also supports the experimental observations. These compounds are non-toxic to mammalian cells. These benzimidazole derivatives inhibit toxic secondary metabolites without affecting the growth of the fungi hence can be used during fermentation to avoid mycotoxin contamination. Due to their superior thermo-mechanical properties and excellent functional performance, polymer composites have been frequently utilized in several fields. In response to the global demand for reducing carbon footprints and replacing petroleum-derived raw materials, designing eco-friendly & sustainable composite materials from natural resources has received great attention in composite manufacturing. In the process of innovative methods & materials development, natural fibres have emerged as promising alternatives to synthetic fibres. Synthesis of polymer composites that have been made up of bio-based polymer matrix and natural fibre-reinforcement is the current research interest to extinguish the usage of petroleum-derived raw materials and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This article reviews the contributions of natural fibre-reinforced vegetable oil-derived polyurethane composites and highlights the effect of the chemical treatment of fibre on composite properties. Introduction: Estimates suggest that one-third of snakebite cases in sub-Saharan Africa affect children. Despite children being at a greater risk of disability and death, there are limited published data. This study has determined the: population-incidence and mortality rate of hospital-attended paediatric snakebite; clinical syndromes of snakebite envenoming; and predictors of severe local tissue damage. Methods: All children presenting to Kilifi County Hospital, Kenya with snakebite were identified through the Kilifi Health and Demographic Surveillance System (KHDSS). Cases were prospectively registered, admitted for at least 24-hours, and managed on a paediatric high dependency unit (HDU). Households within the KHDSS study area have been included in 4-monthly surveillance and verbal autopsy, enabling calculation of population-incidence and mortality. Predictors of severe local tissue damage were identified using a multivariate logistic regression analysis. Results: Between 2003 and 2021, there were 19,606 admissions to the paediatric HDU, of which 584 were due to snakebite. Amongst young children (≤5-years age) the population-incidence of hospital-attended snakebite was 11.3/100,000 person-years; for children aged 6–12 years this was 29.1/100,000 person-years. Incidence remained consistent over the study period despite the population size increasing (98,967 person-years in 2006; and 153,453 person-years in 2021). Most cases had local envenoming alone, but there were five snakebite associated deaths. Low haemoglobin; raised white blood cell count; low serum sodium; high systolic blood pressure; and an upper limb bite-site were independently associated with the development of severe local tissue damage. Conclusion: There is a substantial burden of disease due to paediatric snakebite, and the annual number of cases has increased in-line with population growth. The mortality rate was low, which may reflect the species causing snakebite in this region. The identification of independent predictors of severe local tissue damage can help to inform future research to better understand the pathophysiology of this important complication. Author summary: The nature of disease caused by snakebite amongst children in rural Africa is poorly understood. All children presenting to Kilifi County Hospital, Kenya with snakebite between 2003 and 2021 were recruited into a study that was nested in an ongoing hospital and community surveillance study. 584 children presented following snakebite and the incidence was 29.1/100,000 person-years amongst children aged 6–12 years. The incidence remained consistent over the course of the study despite the population increasing by over 50%, highlighting that the burden of disease is increasing in-line with population growth. Many children initially sought traditional therapies, which was associated with delayed presentation to hospital. The mortality rate was low, and most children had local, rather than systemic, envenoming. Predictors of severe local envenoming at the time of admission included a high white blood cell count, low haemoglobin, and an upper limb bite site. The findings of this study highlight the need to strengthen strategies to prevent snakebite in children, to overcome barriers to attending hospital, and to develop therapeutics that better treat local envenoming. Objective: Breast cancer (BC) is the most common cancer type in women and may be inherited, mostly in an autosomal dominant pattern. The clinical diagnosis of BC relies on the published diagnostic criteria, and analysis of two genes, BRCA1 and BRCA2, which are strongly associated with BC, are included in these criteria. The aim of this study was to compare BC index cases with non-BC individuals in terms of genotype and diagnostic features to investigate the genotype/demographic information association. Materials and Methods: Mutational analyses for the BRCA1/BRCA2 genes was performed in 2475 individuals between 2013-2022 from collaborative centers across Turkey, of whom 1444 with BC were designated as index cases. Results: Overall, mutations were identified in 17% (421/2475), while the percentage of mutation carriers in cases of BC was similar, 16.6% (239/1444). BRCA1/BRCA2 gene mutations were detected in 17.8% (131/737) of familial cases and 12% (78/549) of sporadic cases. Mutations in BRCA1 were found in 4.9%, whereas 12% were in BRCA2 (p<0.05). Meta-analyses were performed to compare these results with other studies of Mediterranean-region populations. Conclusion: Patients with BRCA2 mutations were significantly more common than those with BRCA1 mutations. In sporadic cases, there was a lower proportion with BRCA1/BRCA2 variants, as expected, and these results were consistent with the data of Mediterranean-region populations. However, the present study, because of the large sample size, revealed more robust findings than previous studies. Context: The use of Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulations to examine the mechanical characteristics of polymer composites reinforced with calcium carbonate (CaCO3) and graphene (GR) is represented in this work. The effects of CaCO3 and GR nanoadditives in polylactic acid (PLA) matrix in different concentrations were evaluated using the results of MD simulations. Experimental analyses have been conducted to validate the results of MD based on the mechanical properties of fabricated nanocomposites, including modulus of elasticity, shear modulus, and Poisson's ratio. The modeling, computation, and analysis of several simulations on the improved mechanical characteristics of PLA/CaCO3 and PLA/GR nanocomposites are introduced and discussed. The results revealed that the addition of GR nanoparticles were more effective in enhancing the mechanical properties of PLA components as compared with that of CaCO3 nanoparticles, as the modulus of elasticity, shear modulus and Poisson's ratio increased by approximately 21%, 17%, and 16% for addition of 3 wt% GR nanoparticles in the PLA matrix, respectively. Methods: The mechanical behavior of PLA/CaCO3 and PLA/GR nanocomposites have been simulated based on the molecular dynamic technique using material studio (MS) that enabled the analyses of synergy between the polymer molecules and the nanoparticles. Molecular models for a system of nanocomposites were built by embedding the nano-clusters into an amorphous PLA matrix. Nanoparticles have been modeled as spherical nanoclusters of graphite and calcite unit cells. Molecular models of the pure PLA matrix were also developed for comparison. The relaxed systems of MD simulations have been carried out to calculate the mechanical properties of nanocomposites containing 1, 3 and 5 wt% nanofiller contents. To validate the results of the simulations, the PLA/CaCO3 and PLA/GR nanocomposite granules, containing different weight ratios of the nanofillers in the matrix, have been synthesized by melt-blending technique. These granules have been used to produce tensile test samples by injection molding technique, with different fractions of nanoparticles in the matrix, to study the effects of such nanoadditives on the mechanical properties of the PLA nanocomposites. Globally, Padrón peppers are a widely known vegetable. Unknown to most, its origin lies in a small village, Herbón, located on the outskirts of the town of Padrón (Galicia, North‐West Spain). Local farmers have faced serious problems due to competition with producers from elsewhere commercialising peppers as 'Padron'. In response, local farmers sought to protect the specificities of the place of origin, a claim leading to the achievement of a geographical indication (GI) label in 2009. This initiative has been controversial, as the name of the pepper and the town were appropriated by a private company, and the GI boundaries were disputed by producers across Galicia. In the context of recent theoretical discussions on food studies, this article makes use of a territorial/spatial approach that integrates Anglophone and Francophone literature to develop a transversal explanation of the development of the GI designation. The institutional landscape, the negotiation of the GI specificities of the food, the local food culture and the collective action of farmers are revealed as key issues in its evolution and establishment. This article analyses civic participation in general and particularly that of young people in Côte d'Ivoire using data from the Governance, Peace and Security survey, conducted within the framework of the Integrated Regional Survey on Employment and the Informal Sector of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) in 2017 The findings confirm the low level of involvement of the population in general, and of young people in particular, in civic activities, both political and social. This can pose serious threats to the peace, democratisation and development process, as the involvement of citizens in political and social activities is the hallmark of a democratic society and ensures social cohesion and development. Institutional variables (presence of corruption, growing insecurity and mistrust) reduce civic participation, including in political and social life. Young people's involvement in public activities increases in a controlled, less corrupt environment of public safety in which they have greater trust in the state. The living environment (urban and other rural), professional situation (unemployed, inactive) and standard of living of young people (middle class and wealthy) increase their involvement in public activities. The aim of this article is to argue how unpaid labor predominantly carried out by women constitutes the core of the welfare system in Argentina. To support this proposition, a review of the modalities and variations within the country's social protection system will be conducted. Subsequently, empirical data will be analyzed to estimate the significance of unpaid labor the economy. Cross-cutting contributions from a gender perspective will be added to discuss how this work disproportionately falls on women, recognizing that it is intentionally rendered invisible. Unpaid labor is pivotal to the organization of society, with its invisibility serving as a mechanism of domination. In response to environmental concerns and restrictions on isocyanate-based materials, researchers and the coatings industry are focused on developing eco-friendly isocyanate-free polyurethanes. This article introduces a novel class of environmentally-friendly, initiator/catalyst-free, UVcurable, self-healing non-isocyanate polyurethanes (NIPUs) synthesized from bio-based carbonated soybean oil (CSO) and non-toxic coumarin. The synthesis of these polymers is based on using a photo-reactive coumarin that undergoes a reversible [2 + 2] cycloaddition upon exposure to the wavelength of UV light. UV-curable three coumarin-terminated isocyanate-free polyurethane prepolymers were synthesized using CSO and three different amines and epoxy coumarin. Subsequently, a set of cross-linked NIPU polymers were obtained with exposure of 365 nm UV irradiation. The photo-reversible nature of these polymers was investigated in response to various wavelengths of UV radiation. Additionally, their self-healing ability and the thermal and mechanical properties of NIPU coatings were studied using optical microscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, and a universal testing machine. The outcomes demonstrate that this polyurethane has the potential to provide a sustainable alternative to isocyanate-based materials. Two examples of stimulated healing are given, that of healing a scratch and the other being the healing of a sample that has been mechanically stressed to failure in a tensile mode. This study aimed to 1) examine the relationship between dietary intake and cancer prevention nutrition recommendations among Hispanic families, 2) differences in daily dietary intake by acculturation category and nativity (US born vs non-US born) status. Baseline data was used from a randomized clinical trial evaluating the efficacy of an obesity preventive intervention in Hispanic youth. Participants were 280 Hispanic parents (11.8% males, 88.2% females, Mage=41.87 ± 6.49; MBody Mass Index (BMI)=30.62 ± 5.68) and their adolescents (47.9% males, 52.1% females, Mage=13.01 ± 0.83; MBMI Percentile=94.55 ± 4.15). Intake of added sugar, dairy, whole grains, and fruits/vegetables were obtained. Participants were categorized into four acculturation categories based on Berry's acculturation model: Marginalization, Integration, Separation, and Assimilation. Results indicated that sugar intake was significantly higher than the recommendations among all adolescents' cultural categories but not in parents. Among adolescents the consumption of whole grains was lower in integration and assimilation, dairy was lower in integration, separation, and assimilation, and fruits/vegetables was lower among marginalization, integration, and assimilation categories than the recommendations. Parents' daily intake of whole grains, dairy, and fruits/vegetables were significantly lower than the recommendations across all the acculturation categories. Participants did not meet the healthy recommendations for cancer prevention regardless of their acculturation and nativity status. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) remains a major public health issue in the United States (US) and Black women living with HIV (BWLWH) are disproportionately impacted among women. This study investigates the complexities in influences of family, friend, and special person support systems and their association with post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms (PTSD), depressive symptoms, gendered coping (self-silencing), and a composite HIV risk score related to risk of viral non-suppression through missed medical visits, low medication adherence, and high viral load. Cross-sectional data among BWLWH were analyzed using network analyses via RStudio. Data from 119 BWLWH was reduced to 104, because of missing data on indicators as well as pairwise deletion for the correlation function. Findings revealed variances based on the type of network. For composite risk scores, friend support source had a weak to moderate significant correlation, while symptoms of PTSD and depression only showed a weak positive correlation with the composite risk variable through self-silencing as a form of coping. The post-hoc analysis showed a strong correlation with care as self-sacrifice, based on the composite risk score. Based on the findings from this study, insight was given into symptoms for depression and PTSD, as well as self-silencing and viral non-suppression risk in relation to sources of support for BWLWH. Future interventions to improve the overall health of BWLWH may benefit from incorporating support from friends and lowering care as self-sacrifice. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In previous studies, the adult A. denula beetle was not considered as a major crop insect pest stage. The objective of this study was to elucidate the beetle potential to inflict substantial damage to the crop as its larval stage. The study was conducted on an experimental farm covering 2 592m2, in the Southern region of Côte d’Ivoire. Results show that high abundance peaks of A. denuda on maize farm occurs during the flowering stage of maize, between the 48th and 58th days after sowing. Observations also revealed that the feeding and mating activities of the beetle were predominant between 10 pm and 12 am. Attack by this beetle has a significant impact on maize yield when it occurs between 1 and 6 days after flowering. Over the period three cropping years, yield losses of 26.62%, 32.31% and 21.35% were recorded in 2019, 2020 and 2021 respectively, resulting in an average yield loss of 26.76%. The severity of adult A. denuda attacks on maize cultivated in the studied region confirmed the pest status of this beetle at the imago stage. This work aims the experimental and numerical characterization of gas–liquid flow in an open multichannel falling film microreactor containing 64 coated microchannels, and a split & curve structure for the flow distribution. The operating flowrate range, the flow distribution, and the residence time of the liquid in the single channels were assessed via self-designed pulse input tracer experiments. 3D simulations based on Volume of Fluid (VoF) multiphase model were developed in ANSYS Fluent considering a representative section of a single microchannel. Simulation results indicate that backflow phenomena and an increase in film thickness along the channel length are the main reasons for the high film thickness observed experimentally. While the flow rate has only a marginal effect on both processes, the plate inclination angle has considerable contribution in overflow and flow stability. Wireless body area network (WBAN) is a novel technology with the incorporation of numerous types of devices, which is also employed in health monitoring applications. Human activity recognition (HAR) receives more interest in recent times along with wearable sensors. HAR system provides information about a person's identity, personality, and psychological state. In the present scenario, it becomes important to model the active learning paradigms with the help of wearable sensors for analysing human activities. Although various deep learning models and existing algorithms secure better outcomes through the sensor data analysis regarding HAR, the decision‐making evaluation seems to be a complex one. The main intent of this paper is to implement the WBAN‐based HAR system using the improved deep learning model. By connecting the wearable sensors, the signals are gathered regarding human activity from diverse benchmark sources. After collecting the required signals, the pre‐processing of the input signals is done using artefact removal and median filtering. Further, the feature extraction is performed, which intends to extract a set of features by utilizing short‐time Fourier transform (STFT) and statistical features. For reducing the feature‐length, a multi‐objective‐based optimal feature selection is adopted. Human activities such as 'walking, walking upstairs, walking downstairs, sitting, standing, lying, and jogging' are recognized with help of selected optimal features. The optimized probabilistic neural network (PNN) and convolutional neural network (CNN) are combined and named as adaptive probabilistic‐based CNN (AP‐CNN). The effective performance of optimal feature selection and recognition is accomplished by incorporating the developed backward updating position‐based sea lion optimization algorithm (BU‐SLnO). Finally, the performance of the BU‐SLnO‐AP‐CNN‐based suggested model is analysed, which shows 1.001%, 1.237%, 0.811%, and 0.859% advanced than SLnO‐AP‐CNN, feed‐forward‐AP‐CNN (FF‐AP‐CNN), grey wolf optimization‐AP‐CNN (GWO‐AP‐CNN), particle swarm optimization‐AP‐CNN (PSO‐AP‐CNN) when observing the dataset 1. Black women living with HIV (BWLWH) face adversities, including discrimination (race, HIV, and gender related) and trauma. This study examines which latent profiles of resilience (R) and adversity (A) are most prevalent and their relationships to mental health among 119 BWLWH [age = 44.1 (standard deviation = 10.9)]. Questionnaires measured resilience (post-traumatic growth, trait/coping resilience, religious coping, social support), adversity (discrimination, trauma, microaggressions), and mental health [post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms, post-traumatic cognitions (PTC), and depressive symptoms]. Four salient profiles emerged through latent profile analysis and mental health differences were evaluated. Profile 1 (19.8%) reported lowest scores on 4 resilience measures, lowest traumas, and second lowest on discrimination (low resilience/low adversity—LR/LA). Profile 2 (13.8%) had second lowest on 3 resilience measures but second highest social support, highest/second highest on traumas and discrimination and microaggressions (low resilience/high adversity—LR/HA). Profile 3 (59.5%) exhibited higher scores on resilience and lowest scores on 3 of 4 adversity measures (high resilience/low adversity—HR/LA). Profile 4 (6.9%) reported high on 3 resilience measures, but third lowest on social support, and second highest/highest traumas, discrimination, and microaggressions (high resilience/high adversity—HR/HA). For PTC, the HR/LA group had significantly lower scores compared with the LR/LA and LR/HA groups; and LR/HA had higher PTC scores than the HR/HA group. PTSD scores were significantly lower for HR/LA than all profiles. Depression scores were significantly higher for LR/LA and LR/HA groups than HR/LA. Findings indicate that lower adversity alongside higher resilience leads to better mental health. Policies must address intersectional discrimination and prevent trauma impacting BWLWH; interventions are needed to improve social support and healing. Clinical Trial Registration number NCT02764853. A series of naphthoquinones, namely, 1,4-naphthoquinone, menadione, plumbagin, juglone, naphthazarin, and lawsone, were reacted with N-acetyl-L-cysteine, and except for lawsone, which did not react, the related adducts were obtained. After the tuning of the solvent and reaction conditions, the reaction products were isolated as almost pure from the complex reaction mixture via simple filtration and were fully characterized. Therefore, the aim of this work was to evaluate whether the antitumor activity of new compounds of 1,4-naphthoquinone derivatives leads to an increase in ROS in tumor cell lines of cervical carcinoma (HeLa), neuroblastoma (SH-SY5Y), and osteosarcoma (SaOS2, U2OS) and in normal dermal fibroblast (HDFa). The MTT assay was used to assay cell viability, the DCF-DA fluorescent probe to evaluate ROS induction, and cell-cycle analysis to measure the antiproliferative effect. Compounds 8, 9, and 12 showed a certain degree of cytotoxicity towards all the malignant cell lines tested, while compound 11 showed biological activity at higher IC50 values. Compounds 8 and 11 induced increases in ROS generation after 1 h of exposure, while after 48 h of treatment, only 8 induced an increase in ROS formation in HeLa cells. Cell-cycle analysis showed that compound 8 caused an increase in the number of G0/G1-phase cells in the HeLa experiment, while for the U2OS and SH-SY5Y cell lines, it led to an accumulation of S-phase cells. Perovskites such as SrTiO3 are interesting for photocatalytic applications due to their structure-related and electronic properties. These properties are influenced by the presence of SrCO3 which is often formed simultaneously during the hydrothermal synthesis of SrTiO3. In this study, SrTiO3-SrCO3 composites with different contents of SrCO3 (5–24 wt%) were synthesized. Their morphological, structural, and optical properties were investigated using complementary methods such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), nitrogen sorption, and diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS). Their photocatalytic activity was assessed during the degradation of diclofenac (DCFNa) in aqueous solution and CO2 photoreduction under Xe lamp irradiation. Improved photocatalytic efficiency in DCFNa degradation was observed for all the studied composites in comparison with SrTiO3, and the highest mineralization efficiency was obtained for the sample with 21 wt% SrCO3 content. The presence of SrCO3 led to an increased concentration of active species, such as •OH radicals. This study aimed to determine the effects of different lengths of progesterone and equine chorionic gonadotropin (eCG) treatment on reproductive performance during the non-breeding season in ewes. Progesterone-impregnated sponges were inserted intravaginally for 7 d in Group 1 (G1, n = 24), 9 d in Group 2 (G2, n = 25), and 11 d in Group 3 (G3, n = 24). On the day of sponge removal, eCG (350 IU) was injected and 24 h later the ewes were exposed to rams. Pregnancy was diagnosed by transrectal ultrasonography 30 ± 3 d after mating. Oestrus symptoms of G2 and G3 started earlier than G1, but there was only a significant difference between G1 and G3 (P = 0.013). In G1, G2, and G3, the oestrus responses were 100%, 100%, and 95.8%, pregnancy rates were 79.2%, 72%, and 75%, lambing rates were 79.8%, 72%, and 75%, litter sizes were 2.5, 2.2, and 2.4, and multiple birth rates were 86.7%, 80%, and 85.7%, respectively (P > 0.05). In conclusion, the short-term progesterone-impregnated sponge and eCG treatment provided excellent oestrus induction. The effects of different days (7, 9, or 11) of progesterone treatment on reproductive indicators were similar; therefore, the stress caused by the inserted sponge can be reduced by short-term use. The increasing demand for crosslinked polymer microparticles (PMPs) in advanced applications requires the development of new sustainable methods which can reduce the impact of the polymerization process on the environment. This research reports a new environmentally‐friendly light‐assisted polymerization method for the synthesis of highly cross‐linked polymer microspheres by combining light‐induced [2+2] cycloadditions with dispersion polymerization. Using naturally‐occurring coumarin as reactive moieties, this method allows the synthesis of highly crosslinked PMPs in the presence of UV light at room temperature without initiator. The effect of the reaction parameters such as monomer concentration, stabilizer and reaction time on the particle size and yield are investigated using a number of techniques including Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, solid‐state 13C nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy. The development of refractory bricks made of new materials has recently drawn a lot of interest to address sustainability issues. So, in this study, the recycling of lignite fly ash produced by coal-fired thermal power plants has been investigated to make fireclay refractory bricks. The lignite fly ash and ball clay are the primary raw materials characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray fluorescence (XRF), and differential thermal analysis (DTA). The samples were prepared using a uniaxial hydraulic press, and firing was done in the range of 1000–1200 °C for 2 h. The fired samples were characterized in terms of chemical composition, mineralogical phase, and microstructural using different characterization tools such as XRF, XRD, and SEM. The physical, mechanical, and thermal properties such as linear firing shrinkage, apparent porosity (AP), bulk density (BD), cold crushing strength (CCS), cold modulus of rupture (CMOR), and thermal conductivity of the fired sample were investigated. The linear firing shrinkage, AP, BD, and CCS values were achieved estimated to be 5.32%, 2.10 g m/cc, 15%, and 52 MPa, respectively. The SEM analysis shows dense, rod-like mullite structure and interlocking microstructure of the fired samples. The results were well matched with ASTM standards and commercially available products. So, this promising result indicates lignite fly ash can be used as a potential raw material to produce fireclay refractory bricks. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A series of regioisomers of the hydroxystearic acid (HSA) was prepared, and the effect of the position of the hydroxyl group along the chain on a panel of human cancer cell lines was investigated. Among the various regioisomers, those carrying the hydroxyl at positions 5, 7, and 9 had growth inhibitor activity against various human tumor cell lines, including CaCo-2, HT29, HeLa, MCF7, PC3, and NLF cells. 10-HSA and 11-HSA showed a very weak effect. 8-HSA did not show inhibitory activity in all cell lines. The biological role of 7-HSA and 9-HSA is widely recognized, while little is known about the effects of 5-HSA. Therefore, the biological effects of 5-HSA in HeLa, HT29, MCF7, and NLF cell lines were investigated using the Livecyte's ptychography technology, which allows correlating changes in proliferation, motility, and morphology as a function of treatment at the same time. 5-HSA not only reduces cell proliferation but also induces changes in cell displacement, directionality, and speed. It is important to characterize the biological effects of 5-HSA, this molecule being an important component of fatty acyl esters of hydroxy fatty acids (FAHFA), a class of endogenous mammalian lipids with noticeable anti-diabetic and anti-inflammatory effects. In this work, a series of seven bis-histamine Schiff bases (H1–H4) and bis-spinaceamine substituted derivatives (SPH1, SPH2, and SPH4) were successfully re-synthesized to evaluate their antioxidant properties by several bioanalytical methods such as DPPH free radical scavenging assay, ABTS radical cation decolorization assay, metal chelating and CUPRAC methods. On the other hand, these compounds were also investigated as inhibitors of acetylcholinesterase (AChE), butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) and DNAcleavage. The results revealed that all compounds showed, in general, moderate DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging activities, and low metal chelating and CUPRAC activities. Specifically, compound SPH4 showed good DPPH radical scavenging activity with IC50 value of 59.59 μM, which is better than the BHA and BHT standard values. The best AChE and BChE inhibition results among the tested series were also obtained for compound SPH4 with % inhibition values of 84.51 and 75.89, respectively. On 25 April 2013, President Ian Khama (2008–2018) announced a controversial quota system for tribal land allocation in the peri-urban villages in Botswana at a kgotla (village) meeting in Bokaa in the Kgatleng District. Khama informed the villagers that under the land quota system, 'preferential treatment' would be given to the 'locals' when allocating tribal land in the peri-urban villages. Botswana's parliament had rejected a motion on the same quota system tabled by an independent member of parliament. It also rejected attempts to bring it back through drafts of the land policy in 2013 and 2014, and the land policy in July 2015. President Khama invoked his executive powers in late 2015 to have it implemented. This policy is inconsistent with the Tribal Land Act and the Constitution of Botswana, and undermined Botswana's Vision 2016. Observations of particulate matter less than 10 µm (PM10) were conducted from January to December in 2015 in the Ciuc basin, Eastern Carpathians, Romania. Daily concentrations of PM10 ranged from 10.90 to 167.70 µg/m3, with an annual mean concentration of 46.31 µg/m3, which is higher than the European Union limit of 40 µg/m3. Samples were analyzed for a total of 21 elements. O, C and Si were the most abundant elements accounting for about 85% of the PM10 mass. Source identification showed that the elemental composition of PM10 is represented by post volcanic activity, crustal origin, and anthropogenic sources, caused by the resuspension of crustal material, sea salt and soil dust. The average PM10 composition was 72.10% soil, 20.92% smoke K, 13.84% salt, 1.53% sulfate and 1.02% organic matter. Many restoring formulations for damaged hair keratin have been developed. Some patents claim that the hair repair occurs through the reconstruction of disulfide bridges of keratin, through α,β-unsaturated Michael acceptors, such as shikimic acid and bis-aminopropyl diglycol dimaleate. To gain more insights into the possible repairing mechanism, this study is aimed at assessing, by IR and Raman spectroscopies coupled to scanning electron microscopy (SEM), the structural changes induced in keratin from bleached hair by the treatment with commercial reconstructive agents as well as shikimic acid and dimethyl maleate, chosen as model compounds. Vibrational spectroscopy revealed that shikimic acid- and maleate-based restoring agents interacted with hair fibers modifying both their cortex and cuticle regions. None of the investigated treatments induced an increase in the S S disulfide bridges content of the hair cortex, although it cannot be excluded that this phenomenon could have occurred in the cuticle. S S rearrangements were found to occur. None of our results can be interpreted as direct evidence of the sulfa-Michael reaction/cross-linking. A series of 16 novel benzenesulfonamides incorporating 1,3,5-triazine moieties substituted with aromatic amines, dimethylamine, morpholine and piperidine were investigated. These compounds were assayed for antioxidant properties by using 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging assay, 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid (ABTS) radical decolarisation assay and metal chelating methods. They were also investigated as inhibitors of acetylcholinesterase (AChE), butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) and tyrosinase, which are associated with several diseases such as Alzheimer, Parkinson and pigmentation disorders. These benzenesulfonamides showed moderate DPPH radical scavenging and metal chelating activity, and low ABTS cation radical scavenging activity. Compounds 2 b, 3d and 3 h showed inhibitory potency against AChE with % inhibition values of >90. Summary: Background: Intensive care unit workers are at high risk of acquiring COVID-19 infection, especially when performing invasive techniques and certain procedures that generate aerosols (< 5 μm). Therefore, one of the objectives of the health systems should implement safety practices to minimize the risk of contagion among these health professionals. Monitoring environmental contamination of SARS-CoV-2 may help to determine the potential of the environment as a transmission medium in an area highly exposed to SARS-CoV-2, such as an intensive care unit. The objective of the study was to analyze the environmental contamination by SARS-CoV-2 on surfaces collected in an intensive care unit, which is dedicated exclusively to the care of patients with COVID-19 and equipped with negative pressure of – 10 Pa and an air change rate of 20 cycles per hour. Furthermore, all ICU workers were tested for COVID-19 by quantitative RT-PCR and ELISA methods. Results: A total of 102 samples (72 collected with pre-moistened swabs used for collection of nasopharyngeal exudates and 30 with moistened wipes used in the environmental microbiological control of the food industry) were obtained from ventilators, monitors, perfusion pumps, bed rails, lab benches, containers of personal protective equipment, computer keyboards and mice, telephones, workers' shoes, floor, and other areas of close contact with COVID-19 patients and healthcare professionals who cared for them. The analysis by quantitative RT-PCR showed no detection of SARS-CoV-2 genome in environmental samples collected by any of the two methods described. Furthermore, none of the 237 ICU workers was infected by the virus. Conclusions: Presence of SARS-CoV-2 on the ICU surfaces could not be determined supporting that a strict cleaning protocol with sodium hypochlorite, a high air change rate, and a negative pressure in the ICU are effective in preventing environmental contamination. Introduction: Many publications detail the level and number of lymphadenectomies, whereas the timing of pelvic lymph node dissection (PLND) is infrequently discussed in the robot-assisted radical cystectomy (RARC) series. Aim: To determine the effects of performing PLND before or after cystectomy in totally intracorporeal RARC on operative outcomes. Material and methods: A total of 15 patients included in the study underwent RARC and intracorporeal orthotopic neobladder. Of these, 8 patients underwent PLND before cystectomy (group 1), whereas 7 underwent PLND after cystectomy (group 2). Demographic information, intraoperative data, and post-operative outcomes were recorded for each patient. Results: The mean ± SD age was 61.87 ±6.76 years. Overall mean operation time (OT) was 537.33 ±63.07 min. The mean EBL and hospitalization time were 322.33 ±69.92 ml and 13.87 ±5.2 days. The number of LN removed was 23.75 ±3.454 for group 1 and 13.71 ±6.873 for group 2 (p = 0.007). The postoperative pathological stages were: pT2(5), pT3(2), pT4(1) for group 1, pT2(4), pT3(2), pT4(1) for group 2. Surgical margins were negative in all patient. Overall complications occurred in 7 (46.6%) patients. Only the number of LN removed was statistically significant in favor of group 1 (p = 0.007). Mean follow-up was 15.87 months. Conclusions: Our initial experience with performing extended PLND (ePLND) before or after cystectomy in totally intracorporeal RARC appears to be favorable, with similar oncological results and acceptable complication rates. However, although the number of cases is too low for statistical evaluation, it seems to be advantageous to perform ePLND before cystectomy in terms of LN number and operation time. Purpose: To evaluate the effect of a new mesenchymal stem cell type derived from the neonatal bladder (nMSC-B) on diabetic bladder dysfunction (DBD).Materials and Methods: nMSC-B were harvested from neonatal male Sprague-Dawley rat's bladder and expanded in culture. nMSC-B were transferred to Type-1 diabetic rats which were induced by a single dose 45 mg/kg Streptozocin (STZ). Stem cells were transferred via intraperitoneally (IP) (DM-IP group, n:6) and by direct injection to the detrusor (DM-D group, n:6) at 12th week following diabetes and compared with Phosphate Buffered Saline (PBS) injected diabetic rats (DM-PBS group, n:6) and age-matched PBS injected non-diabetic normal rats (NR-PBS group, n:6). All rats were evaluated histopathologically and functionally four weeks after the stem cell treatment.Results: nMSC-B showed improvement in both voiding function and bladder structure. The maximum voiding pressure (MVP) values in the DM-PBS group were lower compare to DM-IP, DM-D and NR-PBS groups (13.27 ± 0.78 vs 16.27 ± 0.61, 28.59 ± 2.09, 21.54 ± 1.00, respectively, P < .001). There was a significant improvement for MVP values in stem cell-treated groups. Immunohistochemical examination revealed decreased bladder smooth muscle (SM), increased fibrosis and desquamation in urothelia in diabetic groups compared to normal group(P < .001). We detected recovery in the stem cell groups. This recovery was more evident in DM-D group.  No statistical difference was observed in SM and fibrosis between DM-D and NR-PBS groups (P = .9).Conclusion: It was shown that nMSCBs provided amelioration of DBD. In this study, the determination of the equivalent stresses required for the elastic analysis of a hollow cylinder made of functional graded material (FGM) subjected to internal and external pressures was determined quickly and accurately, and its evaluation was discussed. The Poisson's ratio is thought to be constant. The functional grading for the modulus of elasticity varies radially along the thickness of the cylinder and depending on a simple power law function. Radial, tangential (hoop) and equivalent stresses with radial displacements in the cylinder are determined rapidly by modeling both analytically and by the finite element method (FEM) numerically. Outcomes of both methods were compared and found to be in harmony. At the same time, differently from previous studies in my paper, the influence of the inhomogeneity constant of the material on equivalent stresses was investigated and the results are presented in graphical form. The North East District has the most contentious land question in post-colonial Botswana. Most of its land was expropriated by a colonial syndicate called the Tati Concessions (Tati Company) in the 1880s. Chunks of said land are still held under freehold titles resulting in the district experiencing severe land scarcity, especially for communal use. In a continuous effort to address this problem, the government purchased 19 freehold farms between 2005 and 2008 (about 20000 hectares) for redistribution. The process was carried out under the leadership of the Tati Land Board and North East District Administration while the chiefs and their communities were marginalised. This oversight and marginalisation of traditional leaders and their communities undermine the Chieftainship Act, which mandates the chiefs to actively promote the welfare of their tribes, inform them about developments and government policies. Using the participatory democracy theory, the article examines this land reform from the point of view of the local chiefs. Abstract: The fermented fish silages produced with Streptococcus spp., Lactobacillus brevis, Lactobacillus plantarum, Pediococcus acidilactici and Enterococcus gallinarum, and formic acid silages were compared for production of two discard fish silages (Equulites klunzingeri and Carassius gibelio). The E/NE ratio of spray‐dried fish silages was determined in range of 0.80–1.10 for E. klunzingeri and 0.80–0.90 for C. gibelio silages. Pediococcus acidilactici and En. gallinarum groups had greater antioxidant activity than other silage groups. The DPPH radical scavenging ability was found as 6.14%–14.71% and 6.99%–13.36% for E. klunzingeri and C. gibelio silages, respectively. The OMD, ME and NEL values were determined in range of 69.74%–80.08%, 6.38–8.65 MJ/kg DM and 6.45–7.49 MJ/kg DM, respectively for spray‐dried E. klunzingeri silages and 81.18%–86.62%, 8.97–9.61 MJ/kg DM and 7.61–8.08 MJ/kg DM, respectively, for spray‐dried C. gibelio silages. According to the nutritional and chemical evaluation, spray‐dried fish silages have great potential as a feed components because of high rate of digestibility and nutritious components. Due to the well‐known biological potential of benzenesulfonamides for the inhibition of specific enzymes, here in, we propose to investigate anticholinesterase efficiencies of five newly synthesized benzenesulfonamides incorporating dimethoxyindole tails. The targeted compounds were synthesized through the C7 position of the methyl 4,6‐dimethoxy‐1H‐indole‐2‐carboxylate via Schiff‐base reaction. The biological study was directed to identify the acetylcholinesterase (ACh) and butyrylcholinesterase (BCh) enzyme inhibitions. The molecular docking studies were also carried out to determine the possible poses of ligands 8 a–e in binding sites of enzymes and ligand‐residue interactions. Molecular dynamics simulations, RMSD and RMSF plots, hydrogen bond analysis, per‐residue energy decomposition and MM‐PB(GB)/SA calculations were carried out investigate the potentials of the compounds towards the designated enzymes. It is important to note that all the synthesized compounds were found to be selective towards the BChE inhibition with a range of efficiencies. In addition to that the compound 8 a exhibited more potency than the standard Galanthamine with the value of 87.75 % for the same enzyme. The results could be valuable for the determination of new targets which are highly selective for BChE inhibition. The formation of hydrogen bonds and hydrophobic interactions with the residues located on the compounds were responsible for the binding free energy scores. Certain genetic predisposition factors, such as BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutations play a pivotal role in familial breast cancer development in both males and females. Due to this, the importance and necessity of genetic screening to identify mutations affecting the population is paramount. Undergoing genetic screenings allows for a more knowledgeable risk assessment for the patients and their care providers. The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of BRCA1/BRCA2 mutated genes in the Turkish population among unselected patients. To identify the molecular markers, we utilized a gene panel analysis consisting of BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes, with a next generation sequencing platform (MiSeq System, Illumina). Sequencing was performed using leukocyte DNA from breast cancer patients. In‐silico analysis for novel mutations was carried out using SIFT, PolyPhen2 and MutationTaster. BRCA1 and BRCA2 pathogenic variants were identified in 18 of 129 (14%) patients among the study population; of those 18 patients, seven (39%) were found in the BRCA1 gene and 11 (61%) in the BRCA2 gene. Ten of the eleven BRCA2 variants (90%) were novel mutations. Four of ten (40%) of the novel mutations were determined to be deleterious and six out of ten (60%) were identified as single nucleotide variations. Clinically significant mutations of the BRCA1/BRCA2 genes are related to an increased susceptibility for breast cancer. There is however, little known about BRCA mutations amongst the general population. Thus, it is important that patients are able to undergo genetic screenings and counseling. Electrochemically active and star shaped aniline oligomer (SAO) has been prepared from N-phenyl-1,4-phenylenediamine and phloroglucinol in a simple synthetic route. The as prepared SAO is in its LEB state, this is the first time in the literature that an oligomer of this structure is used as support for Pt and Pt-Au nanoparticles for the methanol oxidation. Reduction of platinum for Pt/SAO and Pt-Au/SAO nanocatalysts has been achieved by formic acid. Extremely low amount of loading of catalyst (0.1 mg@3 mm GC electrode) is used. The bimetallic systems Pt-Au/SAO gave better current density towards methanol oxidation than single metallic systems Pt/SAO {2.066 × 10−5Acm−2 for 1:1 < 7.0 × 10−5Acm−2 for 1:1:1 and 8.78 × 10−5Acm−2 for 2:1 < 2.15 × 10−4Acm−2 for 2:2:1}, respectively. Objective: This group-randomized control trial examined the efficacy of guided coping and emotion regulatory self-reflection as a means to strengthen resilience by testing the effects of the training on anxiety and depression symptoms and perceived stressor frequency after an intensive stressor period. Method: The sample was 226 officer cadets training at the Royal Military College, Australia. Cadets were randomized by platoon to the self-reflection (n = 130) or coping skills training (n = 96). Surveys occurred at 3 time points: baseline, immediately following the final reflective session (4-weeks postbaseline), and longer-term follow-up (3-months postinitial follow-up). Results: There were no significant baseline differences in demographic or outcome variables between the intervention groups. On average, cadets commenced the resilience training with mild depression and anxiety symptoms. Analyses were conducted at the individual-level after exploring group-level effects. No between-groups differences were observed at initial follow-up. At longer-term follow-up, improvements in mental health outcomes were observed for the self-reflection group, compared with the coping skills group, on depression (Cohen's d = 0.55; 95% Cl [0.24, 0.86]), anxiety symptoms (Cohen's d = 0.69; 95% Cl [0.37, 1.00]), and perceived stressor frequency (Cohen's d = 0.46; 95% Cl [0.15, 0.77]). Longitudinal models demonstrated a time by condition interaction for depression and anxiety, but there was only an effect of condition for perceived stressor frequency. Mediation analyses supported an indirect effect of the intervention on both anxiety and depression via perceived stressor frequency. Conclusions: Findings provide initial support for the use of guided self-reflection as an alternative to coping skills approaches to resilience training. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The present study provides analysis of the policies that are being carried out with respect to children, in conflict with the penal law as it pertains to the context of confinement, and specifically those laws pertaining to vocational education and training. For this purpose, it is necessary to begin the first section with an overview of the policy transformations that have been carried out in Argentina, and specifically, in the situation of its application in the province of Buenos Aires, which have resulted in the movement of the doctrine from a state of irregularity, to one in which the rights of children are being protected and their interests are being promoted. In the second section, analysis is provided of the theory of human capital, which is the foundational concept for providing training in the context of confinement. In the third section, empirical data is provided in order to characterize the social and family profiles of the youths who are part of the institution of incarceration, as well as the functionality of the educational methods that are proposed. In the final section, five points are postulated which are considered indispensable to (re)formulate the design of the social policies for this social sector. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
